Bonnie Beth Jakabosky, 71, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 18, 2021, at Sandstone Heights, Little River. Bonnie was retired from the NCRA Refinery. Bonnie was born on May 23, 1949, in Beloit, KS, the daughter of Clarence William and Eva Marie (McKee) Burnette. She graduated from McPherson High School in 1967. Survivors include: her son, Michael Jakabosky (Debbie) of Little River, KS; four siblings, Bill Burnette of McPherson, KS, Leta Nelson (LaRue) of McPherson, KS, Ann Lockwood (Brad) of Highlands Ranch, CO, and Bob Burnette of Gladstone, MO; two grandsons, Michael Jakabosky, Jr. (Kylee) of McPherson, KS and Nicolas Jakabosky of McPherson, KS; three great-grandchildren, Dane Miller, Odin Sugars, and Makynna Jakabosky; and many extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, John Burnette. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Sunday, February 21, 2021, at Stockham Family Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, February 22, with Jeremy Nelson officiating at Stockham Family Funeral Home. Burial will follow at McPherson Cemetery. Leroy Henry Strotkamp was born on January 26, 1931, at home on the land homesteaded by his great grandparents in 1880. He was the third child of Joseph Henry and Sarah Eva (Olsen) Strotkamp. He passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 14, 2021, at St. Luke Living Center in Marion, Kansas.

He lived his entire life in Marion County, Kansas – living in the Burns-Summit area before the family moved to Peabody in the mid 1930’s. He attended school in Peabody and Burns. Even though he lived in Marion the last six years of his life, Peabody was always home. Throughout his entire life he enjoyed tinkering around with different projects and had a love for dogs.

At the age of 16, he went to work for Tucker Produce in Peabody, driving the country route picking up eggs and cream from the farmers. He later worked various jobs including Beech Aircraft in Wichita and driving a semi hauling cattle. In 1959, he went to work for the post office in Peabody carrying mail for the entire town every day. People said you could almost set your clock by when the mail arrived when he was delivering it. After 31 years with the postal service, he retired. After retirement, he enjoyed helping out at the Dari Crème with his sister Mary and brother-in-law “Doc” Stovall. He always enjoyed visiting with people.

On July 15, 1963, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth “Betty” Louise Engel in Marion. They enjoyed 51 years together until her passing on July 23, 2014.

Leroy was baptized into our Lord Jesus Christ on August 30, 1999.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Eva Strotkamp; his wife, Betty; his older brother, Joseph Henry Jr. who died in infancy; his sister, Mary Stovall and brother-in-law, Melvin “Doc” Stovall.

He will be missed by several nieces and nephews, Joan Stovall of Newton, Kansas, Don and Brenda Stovall of Halstead, Kansas, Greg and Kim Topham of Peabody, Phil and Gail Topham of Burns, Jeff Topham of Griswold, Iowa, David and Shelley Topham of Valley Center, Kansas, and Amy and Lee Engle of Kingman, Kansas, along with many great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Viewing without the family present will be Thursday and Friday, February 18 &amp; 19, from 9-5 at Yazel-Megli Funeral Home, 205 Elm in Marion. Funeral service Saturday, February 20, at 11:00 a.m. at the Peabody Christian Church, 301 N. Sycamore in Peabody, with Pastor Jim Pohlman officiating. Interment will follow in Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Peabody.

Evelyn's life began on July 29, 1934 in Marion, KS.&nbsp; She was the daughter of Clyde Fredrick "Fritz" and Henrietta "Hank" (Conyers) Richmond.&nbsp; Evelyn was a member of the Marion High School Class of 1952.&nbsp; She was united in marriage to Richard "Dick" H. Bredemeier on March 15, 1952.&nbsp; Evelyn helped her husband Dick, with the Phillip 66 service stations he managed as his bookkeeper then went to work for 25 years at the Sterling (later Pfizer) Pharmaceutical packaging plant in McPherson before retiring.&nbsp; 

Dick and Evelyn loved to camp and were members of the "Marionettes" camping group at various lakes in the region at least once a month.&nbsp; They enjoyed camping with their good friends in South Central Colorado.&nbsp; Evelyn enjoyed backyard barbeques with relatives, cooking, gardening, and in the early years of their marriage, she repaired and refinished antique furniture to furnish their home.&nbsp; She was a volunteer at St. Luke's Hospital Auxiliary Shoppe and Eastmoor United Methodist Church, especially preparing lunches in the kitchen.&nbsp; Evelyn was close to all her cousins, siblings, in-laws, and their children.&nbsp; She moved to the Marion Assisted Living and then to St. Luke's Living Center for the last 20 months of her life.&nbsp; 

Evelyn passed away on February 17, 2021 at St. Luke's Living Center.&nbsp; Her greatest joy was her family which includes three sons Mike (Lynne) Bredemeier of California, Don (Donna) Bredemeier of Marion and James Bredemeier of Wichita; grandchildren Jeff, Jon, Josh, Jenessa and Jake; seven great grandchildren; and her sister Laura Jane Bredemeier of Petaluma, CA.&nbsp; and brother James Richmond of Marion.&nbsp; She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Dick, infant son John, and brothers Ralph and Jack Richmond.&nbsp; 

The family will gather with friends on Tuesday February 23, 2021 at 1 p.m. in Marion Cemetery for a graveside service for both Evelyn and Dick led by Pastor Darren Frazier of the Eastmoor United Methodist Church.&nbsp; Yazel-Megli Funeral Home is serving the family.&nbsp;

SALINA - Ruth Ann Holcom, 79, passed from this life February 12, 2021, Ruth was the daughter of Melvin and Charlotte Eshelman, Salina.&nbsp; She leaves behind her special friend, Gary Ackerman of Salina; sons, Rusty Holcom and Aaron Holcom both of Lake Charles, LA; brothers, Ray Eshelman, Salina, Rex Eshelman, Las Vegas, NV; and sister, Rena Sterling, Stillwater, OK.

Ruth is also survived by the loves of her life, granddaughters, Kurstin Holcom, Chicago, IL., Samantha Holcom, Chicago, Lauren Holcom, Lake Charles, LA. and Hannah Holcom, Lake Charles; great-grandchildren, Myla Holcom, Lake Charles, Hallie Holcom, Lake Charles, and Liam Basham, Chicago.&nbsp; Other survivors include her favorite uncle, Russell Swisher; cousins, nieces and nephews.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Charlotte Eshelman; baby sister, Karen Ruth Eshelman; baby brother, Roy Cleason Eshelman; and maternal and paternal grandparents.

Ruth graduated from Salina High School, in 1960.&nbsp; She started her working career as a bookkeeper with the Kansas Department of Transportation located in Salina. She then worked for Randall Morgan Statues, as a painter and later with Dr. Richard Bergen.&nbsp; She worked as a helper and painter on Dr. Bergen’s artwork including his Pony Express Statue.&nbsp; Later Ruth returned to bookkeeping and worked for R and R Plumbing before moving to Lake Charles, LA. While at Lake Charles she worked at a Mansion as part of the Yard/Lawn/Swimming Pool Maintenance team. Ruth loved working outside.

Ruth’s passion was singing and playing the piano. She was known by many as being the manager and upfront singer for the “Sundusters Band” from 1972 to 2000, when the band dissolved.&nbsp; The band played for many dances at the Moose Lodge and other establishments in and around Salina. The Sundusters played many years for the “Run to the Wall – Rolling Thunder” on their way to Washington DC and she gave the riders Teddy Bears to carry to the Vietnam Veterans Wall.&nbsp; Her signature song was “The Teddy Bear Song”. Many articles were written in various magazines and the Salina Journal about Ruth and her Teddy Bears being given to the veterans. The veterans said, “It is hard to ride a motorcycle with tears in our eyes.”&nbsp; Ruth was also a lifetime member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. with family receiving friends from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Monday, February 22, 2021.&nbsp; Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 23rd all at Ryan Mortuary, Salina.&nbsp; Burial will follow in Gypsum City Cemetery, Gypsum, KS.

She was known by many as being the manager and upfront singer for the “Sundusters Band” from 1972 to 2000, when the band dissolved.&nbsp; The band played for many dances at the Moose Lodge and other establishments in and around Salina. The Sundusters played many years for the “Run to the Wall – Rolling Thunder” on their way to Washington DC and she gave the riders Teddy Bears to carry to the Vietnam Veterans Wall.&nbsp; Her signature song was “The Teddy Bear Song”. Many articles were written in various magazines and the Salina Journal about Ruth and her Teddy Bears being given to the veterans. Roy Lester Whitaker was born on a farm near Hail, Kentucky on June 12, 1937. He was the oldest son of Talmadge Lester and Mildred Marie (Dykes) Whitaker Groppenbacher. He died February 16, 2021 from Interstitial lung disease.

Roy lived in several places growing up but moved to the Cincinnati, Ohio area at about 8 years of age. There he attended school until he joined the United States Air Force at age 17, on June 17, 1954. He went to Basic Training at Sampson AFB New York. He went on to serve his country as an aircraft weapons specialist. He served two years in Southeast Asia (Thailand) during the Vietnam War, six years in England and several other countries as well as the USA.

While he was stationed at Schilling AFB Salina, Kansas, he met and married Joan Howell on December 27, 1956. Joan accompanied Roy as he was sent to different places. He retired as a Master Sergeant on July 1, 1976 and they moved to Salina. Since retiring, Roy has worked for Sunflower Bank and USD 305. In 1986 he began his career in Real Estate selling for Adrian Associated Properties and MK Development. He later became a Real Estate Broker and Appraiser as well as establishing RW Reality and Whitaker Appraisal Service. He served as President of the Salina Board of Realtors in 2004 and was Realtor of the year in 2005.

Roy was a member of Ray Avenue Baptist Church serving as Trustee, Treasurer and a teacher. He was a leader in the RU Recovery Program and a Choir member singing bass. He was also a member of the NCOA (Non-Commissioned Officers Association) and TREA (The Retired Enlisted Association). He attended Marymount College and NE Louisiana University specializing in Building Inspection Technology. He is a graduate of Faith Bible Institute, Monroe, Louisiana.

Julia F. (Schmidt) Regier, 92, went to be with the Lord on February 15, 2021&nbsp;at Bethesda Home in Goessel. She was born on March 7th 1928 in Newton, Kansas.

Upon accepting Jesus as her savior, she was baptized at Tabor Mennonite Church rural Newton.&nbsp;She graduated from Goessel High school in 1946. Her yearbook stated that Julia could sing like a lark. Julia married Willard (Feezer) Regier October 15, 1948 at Tabor Mennonite Church.

Willard and Julia served in 1-W service in a Denver hospital as conscientious objectors during the Korean War in 1951-1952. Many of the 1-W co-workers became lifelong friends.

Julia and Willard returned to Kansas and became partners in farming at Willard’s farm west of Goessel.

Julia was an active member of Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church rural Goessel.

Julia was proceeded in death by her husband Willard J. Regier, parents Nick and Susan (Unruh) Schmidt, still born son Merle, Brother Otto Nick Schmidt, Sister Rita Sperry.

Julia is survived by her daughter LaNae (Steve) Unruh rural Moundridge, Sisters Susan Duerksen Goessel, DeLome (Jerol) Schmidt rural Newton and many nieces and nephews.

Julia excelled as an avid gardener, seamstress and was well known as a great baker and cook.

Julia’s life’s love was taking care of her family and caring deeply for her community and church. But Julia’s greatest joy was working alongside Willard as a steward of their farmland.

Jeff grew up on a farm near Barnard, and later graduated from Minneapolis High School in the Class of 1991. Following graduation, he attended Hutchinson Community College, where he studied criminal justice. He then pursued a career in nursing, and worked at Hilltop Lodge in Beloit as a nurse’s aide, and also at Via Christi Hospital in Wichita as a nurse tech.

He was a member of the Kansas Gay Rodeo Association (KGRA), and was Mr. KGRA for two years. He also served as a board member for the Pine Valley Christian Church and Heart of America Men’s Chorus.

&nbsp;&nbsp; Jeff was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Linda Wallace; brother, Patrick; grandparents, Pansy and Cassie Ullom and Wayne and Jean Wallace; step-grandmother, Lee Wallace; and several aunts and uncles.

Roger enjoyed motorcycles and motorcycle rallies, going to Sturgis, working with 3D printing and spending time with his friends and family. Roger Scott was united in marriage to Tracy Valdez on Oct. 16, 1982 in Salina, Kansas. The young couple established their first home together in Salina. This union was blessed with the birth of a son, Andrew Martin. Carol Rose Scheidt of Salina, passed away Sunday, February 14, 2021. She was born November 20, 1937 in Fargo, North Dakota the daughter of Carroll and Catherine “Rose” (Kilzer) Annette. Carol spent most of her life in the Salina, Solomon and Abilene area. She was united in marriage to Gary “Duke” Scheidt May 4, 1957 in Seattle, Washington. 

Carol was a devoted wife, loving mother and prayer warrior. 

Carol is survived by her loving husband of 63 years Gary “Duke” Scheidt. Children: Mike Scheidt (Tammy) of Abilene; Kathy Winingham (Dan) of Solomon; Connie Simpson (Cary) of Abilene; Danny Scheidt (Rhonda) of Salina; Suzie Cramer (Rod) of Salina and Vicki Nebel (Mike) of Salina. 15 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and two sisters, Elaine Richardson and Shirley Boucher. She was preceded in death by her parents, sons: Andrew V. Scheidt and Donald Scheidt, one grandson, Robby Orton, two brothers, Richard and William Annette and one sister, Patti Lemley.

She was born January 16, 1936.&nbsp; She will be remembered for being so friendly and love for her dog.&nbsp; She grew up on a farm near Marquette.&nbsp; Later she ventured to California to live with sister Marilyn after high school.&nbsp; She then returned to Salina to marry Ernest (Bud) Berg.&nbsp; They loved to dance, play cards and travel, enjoying 9 cruises.&nbsp; Norma worked in retail for many years including Walgreens, JCPenney, and Kline's Department Store.&nbsp; She loved working with the public.&nbsp; Norma enjoyed water walking at the Y and volunteering at the Salina Community Theatre and Smoky Hill River Festival.

Survivors include daughter, Susan and son, Stacy; sister Vonnie Campbell of Manhattan and many cousins, nieces &amp; nephews.

Preceded in death by husband, Ernest of 53 years; one brother and three sisters, and parents Myrtle and Preston Griggs.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, February 22, 2021 at Ryan Mortuary.&nbsp; Burial will follow in Gypsum Hill Cemetery.

John Joseph "Jay" Graves, 81, passed away Feb. 14, 2021. He was born May 9, 1939 in Salina.&nbsp;

Jay dedicated his life's work to the trucking industry. He had many roles in family owned Graves Truck Line in Salina. Following the sale of Graves Truck Line, Jay was involved with several local&nbsp;trucking companies until moving to Kansas City. In Kansas City he represented unionized trucking companies in negotiations with the Teamsters union until his retirement. Jay was always quick with a joke and was the life of any party he attended. He was generous of his time and resources and will be missed by all that knew him.

Survivors include: sons, Mike Graves, Doug Graves (Peggy), Jason Graves (Cathy), daughter, Debi Young (Ronny), stepmother, Helen L. Graves, sister, Patti Counts, half-sister, Carolyn Walker and step-daughter, Jodi Alberici (Mario) and 8 grand/step-grandchildren.

He was proceeded in death by his wife,&nbsp;Linda L. Graves, father,&nbsp;John A. Graves and brother, Donald L. Graves.

Patricia Lucille (Kurtz) Peck, 90, of Bunker Hill, Kansas, passed away Friday, February 12, 2021, at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.

Patricia was born January 18, 1931, in Burlington, Colorado.&nbsp; She was one of four children born to Frank and Alma (Kerr) Kurtz.&nbsp; She grew up and attended schools in Alton, Kansas until her senior year of high school when her family moved to Salina and she graduated from Salina High School.&nbsp; She then attended Kansas Wesleyan College and graduated with a Teaching Degree.&nbsp; Later she attended Fort Hays State University and earned a degree in Education.

Patricia was united in marriage to Wayne Peck on May 18, 1952, in Salina, Kansas.&nbsp; This union was bless with three children; Teri, Gordon and Jay.&nbsp; They made their home in Bunker Hill.&nbsp; Wayne preceded her in death in 1999.

Patricia was an Elementary Teacher.&nbsp; She taught at Bunker Hill, Dorrance and Russell.&nbsp; She also worked at KOOD – Bunker Hill.&nbsp; She was a member of the Bunker Hill United Methodist Church and UMW.&nbsp; She also served the church as Treasurer for many years.&nbsp; She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star of Bunker Hill and Delta Kappa Gamma.&nbsp; She enjoyed water and oil painting and playing cards.&nbsp; Everything for her revolved around all her families activities.

Surviving family include her daughter, Teri Wannamaker (Pete) of Topeka, Kansas; sons, Gordon Peck (Ellen) of McPherson, Kansas and Jay Peck of Wichita, Kansas; sister, Joan Dunning of Middletown, New York; five grandchildren, J.J. Wannamaker (Lindsey), Jarod Wannamaker (Rachel), Anna Peck, Isaac Peck and Laura Peck.

Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Richard Kurtz and sister Barbara Kurtz.

Sandy was a member of the Brantford Covenant Church, the Fraternal Order Of The Eagles, where she enjoyed playing bingo and she was also a member of many neighborhood clubs.&nbsp; She is also preceded in death by her parents.

SALINA –&nbsp;Jerry K. Olson, passed on Friday, Feb. 5, 2021. He was born Dec. 16, 1939 in Salina to Lucille and Chester Olson.

He was a long-time employee of The Salina Journal. He was a paper carrier at the age of 10, worked part-time in the mail room at age 16. Became full time in the mail room upon graduation from Salina High School in 1957, moving to the composing room the next year and experienced the transformation in modern printing firsthand from the end of hot-type to cold-type to pagination. He ultimately became foreman and served in union leadership as the Secretary/Treasurer of Salina Typographical 638 for 30 years. He retired on his birthday in December, 1995.

Jerry was an avid outdoorsman, woodworker, and collector. He was an engaging storyteller with a distinctive laugh and the lead card player at family gatherings.

He served on the Church Council at Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Jerry was the president of the Kansas Knife Collectors Association and a Life Member of both the NRA and the National Knife Collectors Association.

Survived by Kandie, his wife of 43 years; two sons, David, and John; and three stepsons Eric, Brian, and Tony Hummell; 10 grandchildren: Tabitha Ash, Teresa Ash, Joshua Olson, Carlie Olson, Samantha Olson, Elizabeth Olson, Ashley Hummell, Audrey Hummell, Walter Hummell and Graham Hummell; and 7 great grandchildren.

A private family service will be held at 1 p.m.&nbsp; February 19, 2021 at Ryan Mortuary.

The Reverend Dr. Ronald Bruce MacLennan, 76, of Lindsborg passed away Saturday, February 13, 2021 at Lindsborg Community Hospital.  Ron was born November 7, 1944 in Kansas City, MO to the late Ronald Frasier and Marie (Schulte) MacLennan.  

Ron graduated from Harvard University in 1966 and Union Theological Seminary in New York in 1970. He was ordained at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Kansas City, MO in July of 1970.  He returned to Union and married Marcia Munro on June 26, 1971. He later received his PhD in theology from the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago.

Ron celebrated the 50th anniversary of his ordination in 2020. He served several Lutheran churches across Kansas, in Atchison (St. Marks, 1970-1976), Wichita (Reformation, 1976-1980), New Cambria (Peace, 1984-2015), Lincoln County (Denmark 1996-2015), and Wilson (Excelsior, 1996-2015). He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Lindsborg. He was a chaplain and then Professor of Religion at Bethany College in Lindsborg (1984-2012). Ron was also a member and past president of the Paul Tillich Society.

Throughout his life, Ron loved to travel. He and Marcia visited all 50 states and 58 other countries. Ron was an avid bridge player in retirement and became a Lifetime Master on his 70th birthday.  

He is survived by his wife: Marcia (Munro) MacLennan, of the home; daughters: Heather McLauchlan (Craig) of Morton, IL, and Hilary Kibler (Chad) of Lindsborg, KS;  as well as four grandsons: Ian and Andrew McLauchlan and Caden and Cael Kibler.

Ron is preceded in death by his parents; brother: Fredrick (age 11); as well as 2 infant brothers.

Cremation has been chosen.  Private family services will be held, with a celebration of life to be announced at a later date.

Terrie Ruth Carr, 74, passed away Friday, February 12, 2021 in Salina. She was born January 26, 1947 in Bethany, MO to Charles R. and Ruby Elaine (Turpin) Cox.

Terrie is survived by her daughter, Christy Rohr (Calvin) of Ellsworth; grandchildren, Jacob Wilson (Sarah Berger), Amanda Wyatt (Chris), Brandon Rohr (Nikki), and Brittany Rohr; great grandchildren, Emery, Ryker, Hannah, Sean, Braxton, Kohl, and Greyson; and brothers, Larry Scott Cox (Shellie) of Belton, MO and Rob Cox of Liberty, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Mike Wilson; infant children, Jennifer and James; brother, Mark Cox; and sister, Chris Hentzen.

Lewis “Ray” Rains, 73, passed away February 12, 2021. He was born to Sylvia (Zavitz) and Bobby Dean Rains at Paris, Ark., on March 2, 1947.

Ray proudly served in the Army during Vietnam era from 1965-1968, active and in reserves for 3 more years. Ray married JoLinda Walker at Macksville, Kan., on March 20, 1971.

To his family, Ray was known as “Butch.” He loved nature, especially plants and rocks. Ray never found a rock he could live without, no matter the size. He was known as eccentric and a “jack-of-all-trades.”

Ray was a proud member of the American Legion, supported the Veterans of Foreign War (VFW), and the Disabled American Veteran (DAV) local chapters. For many years, Ray was an escort for the Patriot Guard. He was also an American Legion Rider.

Ray never met a stranger and would go out of his way to show kindness, especially toward children. He loved to make them laugh. Most of all, Ray loved his grandchildren. He will be missed.

He is survived by his wife, JoLinda, of the home; children, Travis (Katalina), Shawnee; Trenton (Kelly), Shawnee; and Trevor, Salina; grandchildren, Anna, Brynden and Madalyn; siblings, Mike Oglesby (Pat), Surprise, Ariz.; Debbie Schmidt (Perry), Topeka; Kelly Lyons, Ark., and Kevin Rains, Ark.; and uncle, Jim Rains (Jackie), Hot Springs, Ark.

Ray was predeceased in death by his father, Bobby Dean; mother and stepfather, Sylvia and Bill Oglesby; and sister, Marie Englett.

Memorials to Wounded Warrior Project, Multiple Sclerosis Society or Autism Society The Heartland, in care of Ryan Mortuary, Salina.
