Becky Lenae Bailey, 58, passed away Thursday, April 11, 2024 at her home outside of Ellsworth, KS. She was born August 14, 1965 in Ellsworth to Jimmy Joe Morris and Karen (Rollet) Petty. Becky married John Bailey in Kanopolis, KS on July 14, 1985. She was a Registered Nurse at the Ellsworth Clinic for many years and a secretary at the Ellsworth County Appraiser’s Office and later for TK Company.

Becky is survived by husband John Bailey of Ellsworth; sons, Tyler Bailey (Keegan) of Beloit, KS and Kristofer Bailey (Jade Shirack) of Ellsworth; grandchildren, Isabell, Cooper, and Kaiden Bailey and Savannah and Kit Bailey; stepmother Vicki Morris; stepfather Jerry Petty; sister LeAnn Ploutz (Darrell) of Kanopolis; brothers, Bret Morris (Betsy Miller) of Wichita, KS and Lance “Shab” Morris (Val) of Lyons, KS; two stepbrothers; three stepsisters; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Pamela Swindler.

Memorial service: 1:30 p.m., Thursday, April 25, 2024 at Parsons Funeral Home, Ellsworth.

Pearlie Lee Storper June 23, 1952 ~&nbsp;March 31, 2024

Pearlie Lee Storper, 71, of Salina, died on Sunday, March 31, 2024 at the Smoky Hill Health and Rehabilitation Center in Salina, Kansas.

She was born on June 23, 1952 in Abilene, Kansas, the daughter of Robert and Nora (Burkhart) Lobdell. Pearlie was raised in Salina and attended Salina Central High School.

She married Pete Storper and were later divorced. Pearlie loved her dogs and she was always a joy to be around.

Survivors include her son Daniel Lobdell of Ellsworth, Kansas, special friend, Carl Frenzen.&nbsp; Several brothers and sisters.&nbsp;As well as Kim Rayas who has taken care of Pearlie the past few years.

Until Pearlie’s health decline, she and Carl spent the past 37 years traveling across the United States.&nbsp; Meeting many celebrities and completing the map of all 50 states was an enjoyable time spent together.

A special thank you to both Smoky Hill Health &amp; Rehabilitation Center along with Interim Hospice and all others who took part in the care of Pearlie. &nbsp;

Private inurnment services will be held at Gypsum Hill Cemetery in Salina.

In lieu of flowers a fund has been established for her son Daniel, contributions may be sent to Affordable Cremations Plus, 7920 W. Kellogg Drive, Suite 200, Wichita, Kansas 67209.

Barbara Ann (Steinberg) Wolford, 73, Tescott, formerly of Lincoln County, died Sunday, April 7, 2024. Barb was born in Salina on January 1, 1951, to Alvin Bernard and Alice Virginia (Bruce) Steinberg.

Barb was baptized on January 14, 1951, at home by the pastor of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Shady Bend. She was confirmed on April 11, 1965, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Lincoln. Barb graduated from Lincoln High School in May of 1969.

Barn and William Ray Wolford were united in marriage on August 10, 1969, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Lincoln.

She held various jobs mostly as a bookkeeper – the longest being with an implement dealership in Dighton. She also worked at several banks.

Barb was preceded in death by her husband, Bill on October 20, 2014, and her parents.

Survivors are her sister, Karla (Jim) Lero; sister-in-law, Kay Marshall, brother-in-law, Joe (Karen) Wolford; nephews and nieces, Carl (Dawn) Lero, Katie Lero, Jacob Lero, Diane (Barkley) Gentry, Audrey Marshall Cummings, Travis Wolford, and Robin Prado; and several great nephews and nieces.

Memorial services will be at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, April 20, 2024, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Tescott. Interment will be at later date.&nbsp; In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Tescott or the Beverly Rural Fire Department and may be left in care of Wilson Family Funeral Home, P.O. Craig H. Cook December 2, 1952 ~ April 15, 2024

Craig H. Cook, age 71, entered into rest on Monday, April 15, 2024, at his home in Concordia, Kansas. &nbsp;He was born on December 2, 1952, in Toronto Ontario, Canada to Henry and Alice (Esson) Cook.&nbsp;

Craig graduated from high school in 1973 in Toronto Canada. &nbsp;He received his criminal justice degree from college in Kitchener-Waterloo, Canada.

He was a member of the Fellowship Christian Church in Concordia.&nbsp; He was also a proud member of the Masonic Lodge in Canada.

Craig worked for the Providence of Ontario Canada prison system as a prison guard for 27 years and retired in 2005.

He enjoyed gambling, playing the slots, music, singing, whistling, playing the guitar, and piano. &nbsp;Most of all Craig loved spending time with his beloved family and friends.

Survivors include his wife Peggy Ballinger of the home, 2 sons, Mike Cook and Daniel Cook, stepson, John Ballinger and stepdaughter, Jesicca Leapaldt and their seven wonderful grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother.

Craig’s wishes were to be cremated and a memorial service will be held 1:30 p.m., Thursday, April 25, 2024, at the Fellowship Christian Church in Concordia, Kansas with Pastor Dwight Whitead officiating.

Kenneth Meral Monroe II March 8, 1945 ~ April 15, 2024

Kenneth Meral Monroe II, son of Kenneth M and Betty J. (Farmer) Monroe, was born in Fort Scott, Kansas on March 8, 1945. He and his sister Jo Anell were children born to this union. Kenneth is preceded in death by his father Kenneth Monroe and Mother Betty (Farmer) Monroe, Grandparents Raymond and Anna Farmer, Sam and Nellie Monroe, Aunts, and Uncles. Kenneth was united in marriage to Loretta Brobst on January 13, 1963, in Wichita Kansas. The young couple established their first home together in Wichita, Kansas and later lived in Union Town, Marion, and Hutchinson, Kansas. Upon retiring from the Kansas Highway Patrol they lived in Kingsland, Texas for several years. This union was blessed with three daughters, Jo Whitley, Tomi Gasper, and Robin Blazek. Kenneth leaves behind his wife Loretta Monroe and three daughters, one grandson, five granddaughters, seven great grandsons, and one great granddaughter. He was blessed with a sister Jo Myers, nieces Brandy McCarty and Danielle Lewis and lifelong friend Richard Turner. Kenneth served in the United States Navy, was a Vietnam Veteran and a Master Mason. Kenneth was a letter carrier for the post office in Wichita, Kansas before joining the Kansas Highway Patrol. Kenneth served as a State Trooper for the Kansas Highway Patrol for 23 years stationed in Marion, Kansas until his retirement in 1994. Kenneth spoke highly of his Highway Patrol Partners, K366 Trooper Dave, Ollenburger (classmate at KHP Academy), K296 Trooper Rob Craft who later served as Marion County Sheriff, K162 Trooper Frank Boyle (training officer) and K308 Trooper John Stultz. Kenneth was a loving husband and father, he could be heard saying often “It had been a great ride, all because of Loretta. She was the love of his life.” He was a part of the 2022 Kansas Honor Flight to Washington DC.&nbsp; Kenneth enjoyed listening to music, tinkering with his hobbies, he enjoyed working with leather making jewelry and fishing. Sylvia Ann (Siemers) Rice July 9, 1960 ~ April 15, 2024

Sylvia Ann (Siemers) Rice&nbsp;was born June 9, 1960 to Vinton and Ila (Markley) Siemers in Russell, Kansas. She danced her way into heaven on April 15, 2024, leaving behind her husband of 40 years Richard Rice of Salina, her children; Charity (Kevin) Dalzell of Suttons Bay, MI, Jennifer (Drea) Hayeslip of St. Charles, MO, and Corey (Kat) Scheck of Salina, KS. Her grandchildren; Kaycie Rice, Hunter Burns, Lyndsey Dalzell, Allison, Maggie, and Evelyn Scheck, and she was anxiously awaiting the birth of her first great grand child in November of 2024. Sylvia was also survived by her siblings; Linda Olson, Kurt (Kitza) Siemers, and Sharla (Mike) Cook. Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Ron Siemers and her grandson Justin Dalzell.

Sylvia grew up in Russell, KS and graduated from Russell High School in 1978 where she served on student council, the dance team, and cheerleading squad, preparing for her future career as Chief Cheerleader for all things Salina, Kansas. In 1982, she and her son Corey moved to Salina, where she met Richard and they married October 7, 1983, completing her family with the addition of her two daughters.

Sylvia dedicated more than forty years to the tourism and hospitality industry in Salina. She began her career at the Ramada Inn where she collected life long friends and stories along the way up the managerial chain. In 1991 she found her work home at the Salina Area Chamber of Commerce where she came to direct the staff of Visit Salina. Sylvia served on a myriad of Kansas tourism boards and committees including, TIAK-Travel Association of Kansas, the 1-70 Association, and Meet Kansas, and was considered the “Matriarch of Kansas Tourism”. Sylvia was a founding member of Sculpture Tour Salina and worked tirelessly to make that dream a reality. She loved her city, and it is a better, more colorful place because of her.

Sylvia was no stranger to struggle. She battled cancer, and many other related health issues for more than 10 years, and she did it all with unparalleled grace and a wry smile for all who came into her orbit. She didn’t let her own issues get in the way of her true passion, caring for people. All who knew her felt the glow of her love and compassion. Her family, especially her children and grandchildren were the center of her life. She loved them deeply and she will live on in their hearts.

The family would like to especially thank the Genitiva Hospice staff, Yvonne, Heidi, and Tara for their kindness, compassion, laughter and care in the last days of Sylvia’s life. They also cannot put into words how much the outpouring of love from Sylvia’s friends, co-workers, and church family has meant to them. Cards, visits, hugs, and meals have been plentiful and deeply felt.

The Celebration of Life service will be at Church of the Cross, UMC, 1600 Rush St. Salina, KS. on Saturday April 20, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive visitors Friday, April 19th from 5-7 p.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in Sylvia’s honor to Sculpture Tour Salina, in care of the Salina Chamber of Commerce 120 W. Ash.

Joan Lafferty Mabes Christensen, 94, of McPherson, KS and formerly of Canton, KS, peacefully passed away surrounded by family at her and her grandson Shane’s home on Friday, April 12, 2024.

She was born April 17, 1929, in Little River, KS to Ernest Harvey and Viola Melvina (Coe) Lafferty. They lived on a farm two miles east of Windom. Joan had six brothers, Harold, Earl, Melvin, LeRoy, Herbert and Gene. She had two sisters, Aldena and Gladys. Gladys died in infancy.&nbsp;

Joan married Ronald Mabes on May 15, 1949, at the Methodist Church in Windom, KS. To this union four daughters were born, Jacque, Renee, Rhonda, and Michelle, and a son, Randy Lee. Randy passed away at age 4 1/2. Joan and Ronald divorced in 1972 and Joan, her daughters, and granddaughter, Kari, moved from New York to Canton, KS.&nbsp;

She worked for Farmers Alliance Insurance Company for 20 years and retired in 1994. Joan married Marlin Christensen of Galva in 1984. To that union she gained Marlin’s three sons, Brian, Joel and Royce.&nbsp;

Joan was a member of the Canton Community Church, United Methodist Women, and Naomi Circle. She was also a member of the McPherson Historical Society, Canton Literacy Study Club, serving as secretary for six years, and served as a chairman of the Canton library board.&nbsp;

Surviving her are daughters, Jacque Rinker (Ronn), McPherson, Rhonda Hamby ( Chuck), Canton, and Michelle Unruh (Brantley), Galva; three step-sons, Brian Christensen, Clearwater, Joel Christensen (Chris), Fort Calhoun, NE, and Royce Christensen, Olathe. Grandchildren include Kari Rinker (Anthony Singer), Chad Rinker, Shane Smith, Kelcie Sanchez (Domingo), Kristopher Klatt, Jason Klatt (Nikki), Amy Lohmolder (Caleb), Kurtis Unruh, Joseph Unruh (Jessica), and Lindsey Dellinger (Daniel), Calista Christensen, Kiley Arnold, Brock Christensen, Kayla Christensen, Kyle Christensen, Mary Irey Christensen and Elizabeth Annie Christensen. Great-grandchildren include Sky Mangers, Abby and Ava Singer, Dawson and Sawyer Sanchez, Theo Lohmolder, Laurelle Unruh, Izzy Sinnett, Chloe and Hailey Arnold, Emily Rose Christensen, Lyla Christensen and Maisyn Rene Christensen.&nbsp;

Deceased are Joan’s parents, Ernest and Viola Lafferty; her six brothers and two sisters; son Randy; daughter Renee and son-in-law Steven Smith; along with her husband Marlin.&nbsp;

Joan wrote that she wanted to be remembered for being kind, thoughtful and loving, but she will be remembered for far more than that…for growing up in a depression, raising rabbits which she herself refused to eat, for her love of her sisters and brothers, especially LeRoy, who was more like a father to her, for frequently moving her new little family around to the next town for work purposes, for her daring move across the country with a station wagon full of girls and two dogs to settle in and raise them in a remote little town before single parenting was common, for being selfless and taking care of everyone else’s needs and wishes first. She will also be remembered for her strength and endurance through great losses, illnesses and pain and very little need to complain through the processes, for her love of traveling with Marlin to whatever back road destination and restaurant he had found to visit, to the annual Christmas Eve celebrations where she thoroughly enjoyed herself with all the grands-playing games, including Farkle, and making her enchiladas for the frequent Mexican cuisine.&nbsp;

Joan loved reading love stories, especially Nicholas Sparks novels. She loved snuggling with each and every new baby that came along, including most recently, holding new twin great-grandsons, and was looking forward to two more coming soon. Joan loved her birthdays and let us know that we needed to help her celebrate each and every one. This year, instead, we celebrate her new birth into her eternal home. Praise Jesus for that, as we can look forward to being reunited again when it’s our time to take that next journey if we accept the Lord as our Savior, as she did.&nbsp;

Joan was an example of a life well lived and certainly well loved. She will be missed, but she will be cherished as a true lady in our minds and our hearts forever.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, April 18, 2024, at the Canton Community Church with Pastor Mike Miller officiating.&nbsp; The final resting place will be at the Empire Cemetery, Galva.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Judy Ann Holloway December 3, 1950 ~ Thursday, April 11, 2024

Judy Ann Holloway, 73, of McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away surrounded by family on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at McPherson Hospital.

She was born on December 3, 1950, in&nbsp; Herington, Kansas, the daughter of Harvey and Alta (Aldridge) Fleming.&nbsp; She graduated from McPherson High School in 1969 and continued her education at Hutchinson Junior College, Wichita State University, and McPherson College.&nbsp; On August 9, 1969, Judy was united in marriage to Gary C. Holloway at First Christian Church in McPherson.&nbsp; This union was blessed with two sons, Barry and Chris.

Judy was one of the first employees of McPherson Pizza Hut in the 1970s.&nbsp; She taught for 15 years in USD #418 as a classroom teacher and as a gifted education teacher.&nbsp; After she retired in 2005, she was a substitute teacher and an adjunct professor at Tabor College for two years.

She loved to play tennis and tried to please her husband by playing golf with him, even though she hated the game.&nbsp; Judy adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.&nbsp; She wrote two children’s education books and had them published.&nbsp; She was a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts and helped with many school activities. Judy loved watching her sons and grandchildren play their sports.&nbsp; She enjoyed trips to Hawaii and was the all-time best at shop-‘til-you-drop.&nbsp; She worked with the Blessings Boutique gang at the church for their annual fundraiser.&nbsp; In her spare time, she loved reading and playing cards (especially Krypto with her good friend Donna Viola), board games, and playing the slot machines at the casino.

Survivors include: her loving husband of 54 years, Gary Holloway; a son, Chris (Julie) Holloway of McPherson, KS; a sister, Karla (R.J.) Reutiman of Centennial, CO; two grandchildren, Baylee (Hunter) Dixon of South Hutchinson, KS and Carter Holloway of Manhattan, KS; two great-grandchildren, Briggs Dixon and Wrenley Dixon; and many extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Alta Fleming; a son, Barry Holloway; sister, Jan Pecoraro; two nieces, Kerstin Hall and Stacey Bruza; and a nephew, Jeff Myers.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date at McPherson Cemetery with Pastor Lynn Scott officiating.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Dwight E. Spence September 13, 1930 ~&nbsp;April 9, 2024

Dwight E. Spence, 93, of McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at The Cedars in McPherson.

Dwight was born on September 13, 1930, in McPherson, KS, the son of Homer Richard and Maggie Mae (McClain) Spence.&nbsp; He was raised on a farm just north of McPherson and attended Centerview Country Grade School just north of McPherson through the 8th grade.&nbsp; He attended and graduated from McPherson High School and later graduated from McPherson College with a BS Degree in Business Administration.&nbsp; He graduated from Railroad Communications School in Kansas City and worked for the Rock Island Railroad Company for 17 years as a telegraph operator and station agent.&nbsp; He worked for Kit Manufacturing Co. for 26 years in several capacities, as cost accountant, controller, purchasing manager, and general manager.&nbsp; This employment was terminated shortly after the mobile home plant in McPherson was destroyed by a tornado in June 1992.&nbsp; After retirement, he worked about nine years as a delivery person for O’Dell’s Laundry.

He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953.

On February 10, 1952, Dwight was united in marriage to Winifred Lucile Jones in Canton, KS.&nbsp; She preceded him in death on August 7, 2003.

Dwight was an active member of the First Baptist Church of McPherson and a member of the Y.E.S. Sunday school class.&nbsp; He was a 50 year plus member of McPherson Odd Fellow Lodge No. 376 and served as Noble Grand of the lodge for several years.&nbsp; He was also a member of McPherson Elks Lodge, American Legion Post #24, and former member and past president of McPherson Light Capitol Kiwanis Club.

He had a close relationship with his family and friends and enjoyed watching his grandchildren perform in their activities.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Dwight is survived by his two sons: Steve Spence of McPherson, KS and Lee Spence of Hutchinson, KS; four grandchildren, April Spence of Chicago, IL, Abbigail (John) Peddieson of Henderson, NV, Dustin (Megan) Spence &nbsp;of Olathe, KS, and Alex Spence of Hutchinson, KS; three great-grandchildren, Olivia Peddieson, Eliza Spence, and Jameson Spence; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; granddaughter, Dixie Spence; daughters-in-law, Nadine Spence and Debbie Spence; brother, Richard Spence; and a sister, Audrey McNichols.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Thursday, April 18, 2024, at Stockham Family Funeral Home.&nbsp; The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, April 19, at the First Baptist Church.&nbsp; Burial will follow at McPherson Cemetery.

Lloyd William Kottman, 75, passed away Friday, April 12, 2024 in Ellsworth, KS. He was born November 20, 1948 in Ellsworth to John and Merne (Hunter) Kottman. Lloyd was a lifetime resident of the Ellsworth area where he was a farmer and rancher. He married Carol Lyne in Ellsworth on December 30, 1972. Lloyd was a lifetime member of the American Quarter Horse Association and a member of the Kansas Quarter Horse Association, National Cutting Horse Association, Three Corners Rabbit Club, Kansas Rabbit Association, and National Rabbit Association.

Lloyd is survived by his wife Carol Kottman of Ellsworth; daughter Michelle Ann Maze (Joseph) of Ellsworth; son Daniel Russell Kottman (Kimberly) of Carneiro; daughter Doris Rose Thrush of Holyrood, KS; as well as nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law, Charlie Thrush and followed in death by his sister, Darlene Sheldon.

Visitation: 1-8 p.m., Thursday, April 18, 2024 at Parsons Funeral Home, Ellsworth with family present 6-8 p.m.

Brett Jon Kuntz, a beloved father, son, brother, uncle, husband and friend departed from this world on April 13th, 2024, due to a tragic accident on the farm that he loved. He left behind a tapestry of cherished memories and a legacy of love that will endure for generations to come. On April 30th, 1980, Brett was born to Renee Jury and Bob Kuntz in Salina, Kansas. Brett's journey began with promise and purpose, each chapter enriched by his unwavering dedication to family and his compassionate spirit.

Brett graduated from Chapman High School (Class of 1999) where everyone was his friend. Brett's zest for life was infectious, his smile and laughter filled every room. He was a kid at heart, finding joy in the simplest of pleasures and embracing every moment with enthusiasm.

On January 24th, 2015, Brett married Melanie Schwab, later divorced. Together, they welcomed two beautiful daughters into their lives, Journey Kuntz, 2010, and Jacey Kuntz, 2015. Brett's devotion to his family knew no bounds, and his daughters were truly the light of his life. His girls were his world, and his love for them shone brightly in every moment they shared.

In the hearts of those who loved him, Brett will forever be remembered for his kindness, his humor, his soft gentle, nature and his endless love. Though he may no longer walk among us, his memory will live on in the countless lives he touched and the love he shared. He is survived by his daughters, Journey and Jacey Kuntz; parents, Bob (Janet) Kuntz, and Renee (Tim) Jury: brothers, Kelly (Kyanna) Kuntz, Tyler (Shari) Kuntz, and Kurt Phillips: nieces and nephews, Tristan, Sam, Clare, Meredith, Kynlie, Ellie, and Kaesen.

Services for Brett's life will be held on April 20th, 2024, 1:30 pm at Brett’s home, 2775 Key Road, Abilene, KS, where family and friends will gather to honor his remarkable journey and find solace in each other's company during this time of loss. Preceding the service, a burial will be held at the Indian Hill Cemetery, 501 Hilltop Dr, Chapman, KS.

John H. Budke June 17, 1930 ~ April 13, 2024

John was born on June 17, 1930, in Salina, Kansas, the son of John H. and Seraphine M. (Borst) Budke. He was born at St. John’s Hospital in Salina. He was a native Kansan and proud of that. He graduated in 1948 from Sacred Heart High School. He went to work at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in January 1950 as a lineman. He worked in various positions until retiring in 1995, with 45 years of accredited service. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in January 1951. He was placed in Security Service as a cryptography operator, decoding enemy communications, which was cutting-edge technology at that time. He served in Germany, &amp; Tripoli, Libya, and San Antonio, Texas. John served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict with an Honorable Discharge in January 1955. He returned to Salina and resumed work at Southwestern Bell. He married the former Mary Margaret (Margie) Pearson on December 1, 1956, at Sacred Heart Cathedral. They were blessed to celebrate 67 wedding anniversaries!

John was a member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Knights of Columbus, and Telephone Pioneers of America.

At age 3, John lost his father to cancer. His mother was left with 7 children to care for in the middle of the Depression. John learned quickly how to find ways to survive. He worked hard his whole life and always had a helping hand to those in need whether it was his mother and family, his church, or his community. He was proud of being ‘one of the guys’ that helped establish Babe Ruth Baseball in Salina. In an interview John once said..…”The Babe Ruth League got started to help a lot of kids get to play baseball instead of just a few kids. The only team for the older boys in Salina at that time was the American Legion traveling team. A lot of kids just couldn’t afford to play on that team because they had jobs. The Babe Ruth League was for anybody.” John coached multiple baseball and basketball teams giving kids rides to practice and helping them get to games. He was also Booster of the Year more than once at Sacred Heart for various big projects like getting a new gym floor, creating Sacred Heart Fan jackets and establishing the practice fields on the property. While working for Southwestern Bell, he was Secretary Treasurer of the Union and helped fellow workers speak up for their rights. He was never afraid to write letters to the editor of the Salina Journal if he thought there was a community issue that needed to be addressed. His greatest accomplishment however was caring for his wife and children, everything from going to the library to learn how to build the family home to supporting every single school activity and sport his children and grandchildren were involved in. Big John was a big part of many people’s lives.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Seraphine Budke, his brother, Bernard Budke, his sisters, Gertrude Martin, Margo Budke, Ann Platt, Rita Martin, and Jo Thielen. He was also preceded in death by his son, Kurt Budke and his Great Grandson, Vincent Felton. He is survived by his wife, Margie, three daughters, Michelle (Kurt) Ratzlaff, Sara (Mike) Haden, Christi (Jim) Rippy, and daughter-in-law Shelley (Balthazor) Budke. John and Margie have 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

There will be a visitation and Rosary at 6 pm, Sunday, April 21, at Ryan Mortuary, Fr. Ken Weber officiating.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Monday, April 22, at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Fr. Fred Gatschet officiating.

Graveside service with Military Honors will follow the Mass and be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Salina, Kansas.

Memorials are suggested to be made to Salina Youth Baseball Fund.

Michael Eugene Tasker February 7, 1957 ~ April 11, 2024

Michael Eugene Tasker&nbsp;was a nurturing, loving man to many who will miss him dearly. On April 11, 2024, he passed away peacefully at the age of 67.

Michael was born February 7, 1957, in Amery, Wisconsin.

He grew up and lived in many places throughout Wisconsin, until settling in Balsam Lake, Wisconsin with his wife Judy Tasker.

He was a one-of-a-kind guy who loved telling jokes and making family laugh. He enjoyed watching movies, fishing, and camping. He worked as a farmer and water tech when he was able to work. He will always be loved and remembered by many.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Clifford and Rosemary Tasker.

Michael is survived by his wife, Judy Tasker, and his children of Wisconsin and Kansas, many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, and other loving family and friends.

At this time there will not be a memorial service. Family will notify people at a later time of a celebration of life.

Jonathan Schuyler Moore&nbsp;passed away peacefully on April 12, 2024, at the age of 39 surrounded by family after a short illness. He was born on January 5, 1985 in Shawnee Mission, Kansas.

Jon's life was filled with adventure, passion, and a deep love for the great outdoors. Jon grew up with a zest for exploration and a curiosity for the natural world that would shape the course of his life. He pursued his college education at the University of Colorado in Boulder where he earned two bachelor's degrees in political science and economics.

Jon found joy in the rugged peaks of Colorado where he spent countless hours hiking, climbing, and communing with nature. His adventurous spirit led him to conquer some of the most challenging summits. He climbed mountains all over the world, including Mount Rainier (2X), Mount Denali in Alaska, and Mount Elbrus in Russia. He also climbed numerous 14ers while in Colorado.

Jon's passion for the outdoors extended beyond his personal pursuits. He was a staunch advocate for environmental conservation, always striving to protect and preserve the natural wonders he held dear. Beyond his love for nature, Jon was deeply passionate about politics including working in the legislature at the Colorado State Capitol. He believed fervently in the power of democracy and dedicated himself to advocating for causes he believed in. Whether engaging in spirited debates or volunteering for political campaigns, Jon approached his activism with vigor, compassion, and an unwavering sense of conviction.

Jon was a devoted friend, son, and brother. Though Jon's time with us was too short, the memories he leaves behind will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him. He leaves behind a legacy of courage, compassion, and boundless exploration. His organs were donated in line with his wish to help improve the lives of others after his passing. He is survived by his parents, Bruce and Julie Moore of Salina, his brother Timothy Moore of Denver, his sister Caitlin Moore (Vadim Kogan) of San Francisco, and two nieces, Piper and Scout Kogan.

She was born October 29, 1936 in Kansas City, Missouri the daughter of Arthur and Jessie (Gibson) Griffin.&nbsp;

On September 23, 1952, Doris was united in marriage to Mosie James Cox in Liberty, Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Jessie Griffin; her husband, Mosie Cox; a son, Jim Cox; a daughter, Lena Mitchell; a brother, Jack Griffin; three sisters, Mabel Holland, Pearl, and Rose; a granddaughter, Pam Kirkland; and a great-granddaughter, Kendra.

She is survived by two daughters, Sue Houston and her husband, John, of Ottawa, KS, and Kay McCurdy and her husband, Jim, of Ottawa, KS; a niece, Dixie Taylor and her husband, Oscar, of Ottawa, KS; a sister, Lucille Haynes of Kansas City, MO; 35 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Lewen Clay Thompson March 22, 1937 ~ April 12, 2024

Lewen Clay Thompson passed away on April 12, 2024 at the age of 87.&nbsp; Clay was born on March 22, 1937, in Oklahoma City. After graduation from John Marshall High School in 1955, Clay went on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree from Phillips University in Enid, OK in 1959 and received a Master of Science from Fort Hays State University, Hays, KS in 1967. He did additional post-graduate studies at Emporia State, Kansas State, and the University of Oklahoma.

While at Phillips University, he met and fell in love with Nancy E. Garren. They married on June 28, 1957. They proceeded to have four boys! Brent, Steve, Jeff and Kenny.&nbsp; He taught high school English, Drama, and Debate in Hoisington, KS from 1960-1967. He began his career as a secondary school administrator as the principal of Moundridge High School from 1968-1970.&nbsp; After a move to Salina in 1970, he served as building principal at several secondary schools: Roosevelt Lincoln Jr. High, Central High School, and South Middle School from 1970 to 1995 when he retired from life as an educator.&nbsp; Over his years in education, he was recognized with many awards and served in many leadership positions including Outstanding Speech Teacher in KS in 1965, Kansas J.C.’s Outstanding Young Educator in 1971, President of the Kansas State Teacher’s Association in 1974, and Kansas Outstanding Middle School Principal in 1992.

After retiring from the world of education, Clay followed in his mom’s footsteps and became a Realtor. He was with Coldwell Banker in Salina from 1995-2006. During that time, he served on many real estate leadership boards and committees which included a year as the President of the Salina Board of Realtors.

He was always involved with his community and served in many different capacities which included: President of the Downtown Lion’s Club in 1985, member of the Salina Urban Renewal Commission in 1973, served on the Rescue Mission Board for years, 2 terms as a member of the Salina Arts and Humanities Commission from 1988-1996, 2 terms as a member of the Salina Planning Commission from 1997-2004, a member of the United Way Board, member of Century 21 Committee appointed by Governor Graves in 2002. &nbsp;

Clay loved adventures, challenges and the outdoors.&nbsp; He ran several marathons, hiked the Grand Canyon and many mountains.&nbsp; He was also active in leadership at Sunrise Presbyterian Church serving in many capacities including Elder.

He is proceeded in death by his parents, Lewen and Betty Thompson. He is survived by his wife Nancy, a sister, Sally Hillis and a brother Bill Thompson. He and Nancy have 4 “boys,” Brent (Patty) Thompson, Steve (Penny) Thompson, Jeff (Mary) Thompson and Kenny (Amy) Thompson. They have 15 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren!

A visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 pm on Friday, April 19th at Sunrise Presbyterian Church. The Celebration of Life Service will be at 10:30 am on Saturday, April 20th at Sunrise. Toastie Racy December 14, 1943 ~ April 12, 2024

Toastie Racy was born December 14, 1943, in Saginaw, Michigan, and departed this life on April 12, 2024, at her home in Abilene, Kansas. Toastie was the oldest daughter of Edward and Bette (Ryan) Blewitt. She grew up in the Topeka area, attended the local schools, and graduated from Hayden High School. She attended the University of Kansas. On November 23, 1963, she was united in marriage with Melvin Racy in Lawrence, Kansas. Mel and Toastie called Lawrence their home until the summer of 1978, when the family moved to Abilene, Kansas.

A kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Toastie was devoted to her faith and committed to her family. Toastie is survived by her two sons Mike (Kathy) of Riverside, Missouri and Kip of Stillwater, Oklahoma; three daughters, RaeLyn of Argyle, Texas, Kelly Jones (Chris) of Beatrice, Nebraska, and Kim Funston (Heath) of Abilene, Kansas. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren: a sister Teri Hatfield (Larry) of Lawrence, Kansas, and Tip Ryan (Jenny) of Park City, Utah. Toastie was preceded in death by her husband Mel, her mother Bette, her father Edward, her brother Daniel, and her niece Matti.

Toastie loved her faith, her family, and her friends. When she wasn’t at an Abilene ball game or a church or school activity, she was often traveling to see family or to be with friends. There will be a Rosary prayed for Toastie at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, April 19th at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Abilene, Kansas. The Family will receive friends immediately following the prayer service next door at the Parish Hall. Mass of Christina Burial for Toastie will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 20th, 2024, at St. Andrews Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Mount Saint Joseph Cemetery.

Thong Le September 25, 1946 ~ April 12, 2024

On April 12th, 2014, Thong Le passed away peacefully at home with his beloved wife Nguyet Pham along with all his children and grandchildren at his bedside. Early that morning, the clouds lifted and the angels ushered him to heaven.

Thong and Nguyet have been married for 57 years. He lived in Vietnam for 49 years before moving to the United States. Thong was an official of the Republic of Vietnam during this time. &nbsp;After the Vietnam War, Thong was placed in re-education camp for 7 years leaving Nguyet to support the family. &nbsp;After his release, Thong did everything he could to support his family but it was extremely difficult to survive. &nbsp; Thong made a tough decision to relocate his family to America. In 1995, Thong and his family moved to Dodge city, KS and he later relocated to Salina, KS where he lived the remainder of his days. &nbsp;

Thong was strong willed and stubborn at times, but he also had an enormous heart and wonderful sense of humor. He was generous, loyal, and brave. He was clever and full to the brim with knowledge gained through all of his life experiences. &nbsp;His family was his whole world. &nbsp;He was a man of few words and expressed his love through actions. &nbsp;He will be remembered for all the kindness and love he shared with his family and friends. &nbsp;If you knew him, there would be no doubt that he truly loved you. When his time came, he carried himself with dignity and strength. He will be missed dearly.

Thong is survived by his wife Nguyet Pham. &nbsp;His first daughter Thuy Le, her husband and three daughters. &nbsp;His second daughter Chi Le, her husband and 4 children, and two granddaughters-in-law along three great grandchildren. &nbsp;His third son Quoc Le, his wife, three children and one grand-daughter-in law. His fourth daughter Huong Le and her 3 daughters. &nbsp;His fifth daughter Hang Le and her daughter. &nbsp;His sixth son Long Le. &nbsp;His seventh daughter Linh Le and her husband.&nbsp;

Thong Le is survived by his older brother Ba Le and his younger sister Thai Le.

Thong is preceded in death by his parents Huan Le and Xuan Ho, his younger sister Thoi Le, and his younger Brother Minh Le.

There will be 2 visitations; Sunday, April 14th from 1 – 3 PM and Monday, April 15th from 3 – 5 PM both in the Roselawn Memorial Heights Chapel; 1920 E. Crawford, Salina, KS 67401. A Celebration of Life and Mass will be on Tuesday, April 16th, at 10 AM in the St. Mary of Universe Catholic Church, 230 E. Cloud St, Salina, KS 67401.

Peggy Adele McConkey September 24, 1932 ~ April 5, 2024

Peggy Adele McConkey, 91, of Salina, entered Heaven on April 5, 2024. Peggy was born in Junction City, KS on September 24, 1932 to Luke and Mable Owens.

Peggy lived her life placing God first. She started each morning and ended every day in prayer, reading her favorite book, the Bible. She was dedicated to her church, First Assembly of God now known as Heartland Worship Center Assembly of God, sitting in the second row, middle section every Sunday. She served the church for many years setting up communion and cleaning the building. Peggy loved her family and doted on her children and grandchildren by making specially designed shaped birthday cakes including bunny rabbits, pink elephants, and her crème’ de la crème’ the Star Trek Enterprise Ship. She loved to make all kinds of fudge and all flavors of cream cheese wedding mints with specialty shapes for every occasion. She loved plants, old westerns on TV, and riding her yellow bicycle made for two.

She worked hard retiring from Kansas Wesleyan University after many years as a custodian of the girls’ dorm. Being a single mother, she supplemented her income delivering newspapers for the Salina Journal, at times up to 5 paper routes per morning, earning her several awards as The Salina Journal Carrier of the Year.

Peggy is remembered for her love for Jesus Christ her Lord and Savior, her dedication to her family including her church family, and her spunky personality.

She was preceded in death by her daughter and best friend, Patricia; parents; brothers, James, Gerald, Donald, David, Carl and Gene; and sisters, Catherine Alexander and Ruth Monosmith.
