SALINA -&nbsp;Dorothy F. “Dodie” Fisher, 78, passed away Wednesday, September 22, 2021.&nbsp; She was born May 28, 1943 in Corning, KS to Melvin and Ellen (Reber) White. &nbsp;

She started school in Vermillion, KS, and graduated from Glen Elder High School in 1961. &nbsp;

Dodie worked for the Sstate of Kansas, Beechcraft, and Walmart, but the job she enjoyed the most was being a certified medication aid at nursing homes.&nbsp; Dodie loved tending to her flower garden, camping, and watching and cheering at the kids sporting events. &nbsp;

Dodie was preceded by her parents, and brothers Charles and Bernie.

She is survived by her husband Don Fisher of Salina; stepson Darin Fisher of Aurora, CO; step-granddaughter Brianna Fisher of Springfield, MO; step-grandson Devin Sprecker (Kendall) of St. Louis; brother Ralph White (Judy) of Salina, Paul White (Carol) of Salina; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at Ryan Mortuary.  Inurnment will follow in Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Brookville, KS.

SALINA -&nbsp;Arleta Faye Bland, 99, passed away Wednesday, October 6, 2021.&nbsp; She was born in Luray to Frank &amp; Edith (Duell) Schurr.

Arleta retired from the postal service at both Luray and Waldo and later worked at the Luray cafeteria for USD 407.&nbsp; 

She had a love for gardening, baking, canning and was active in her church and senior center in Luray.&nbsp; She loved playing the piano and played for many church services, weddings and funerals.&nbsp; She and Gordon enjoyed many years of square dancing, traveling and time spent socializing with friends.

Gordon, her husband of 78 years, preceded her in death in 2019.

Arleta is survived by her daughters Linda Foran (Darrell) of Tucson, AZ, Celia Curl (Larry) of St. Louis, Carma Bland of Salina; grandchildren Wes Foran of Los Angeles, Kevin Foran of Tucson, Aaron Curl of St. Louis, Adam Barkley of Salina, Heather Barkley of Bennington; and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, October 29, 2021.&nbsp; A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m., all at Ryan Mortuary, Salina.&nbsp; A private inurnment will be held in Luray Cemetery.

Mary Lou (Rogers) Berndt, 92, Glasco, died Monday, October 11, 2021 at the Nicol Home in Glasco, KS.&nbsp; She was born December 10, 1928, the third of eight children in Glasco to George and Bernice (Benson) Rogers.

Mary Lou was a 1946 graduate of Glasco High School and married William “Bill” Berndt on August 25, 1947.&nbsp; She then went on to business college in Wichita and ran the Glasco Lumber Yard for several years after Bill passed away on July 4, 1984.&nbsp;

Mary Lou was an avid cook starting at the early age of nine.&nbsp; She loved to make a home-cooked meal for family and friends and competed in several cooking contests over the years, bringing home many awards.&nbsp; She was recently highlighted in the Kansas Country Living magazine for her famous Sunshine Chicken Pie and love for cooking. &nbsp;

She was obsessed with Wheel of Fortune and liked to watch sports, especially football, baseball and golf.&nbsp; She enjoyed dancing and playing golf in her earlier years and absolutely loved clothes. Mary Lou was always classy and even when she did not leave the house, she would be dressed up with her lipstick on.&nbsp; She enjoyed being outside on a sunny day, looking through family pictures, and socializing with her friends.

Preceding her in death are her parents, husband Bill; daughter JoLynn Keller, and three brothers, Clarence Paul Rogers, Lawrence Hugh “Bo” Rogers and Rodney Dean Rogers.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Survivors include her children: William (Mary) Berndt, Salina; son-in-law Gaynord Keller, Glasco; Braden (Karen) Berndt, Glasco; Brett Berndt, Minneapolis; Brian (Denise) Berndt, Glasco; and Barry (Donna) Berndt, Cataula, GA; siblings, Delores Leinen, Houston, TX; Elizabeth Guiot, Wichita; Deanna Bellows, Wichita; Carroll Max Rogers, TX, and one sister-in-law, Kay Rogers, Wichita; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be Wednesday, November 24 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Glasco.&nbsp; Burial will be in the Glasco City Cemetery.

On November 8, 1950, Letha was united in marriage to James Garst. They celebrated 70 years of marriage a year ago November. To this union two children were born, Teresa and Randy.

Letha was a daycare provider, having taken care of many kids in the Mankato community. Letha and James also delivered the Salina Journal for many years.

Letha was a member of The First Baptist Church, Mankato, and American Legion of Scandia.

Her hobbies included playing rummy, cards, baking, word search, polka dancing, and most of all spending time with family and friends.

Letha is survived by her sister-in-law Shirley Hancock, Englewood, CO; brother-in-law Paul Garst (Darlene), Mankato, KS; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother Fred Modlin; and many nieces and nephews

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband James Garst,&nbsp; daughter Teresa Garst, son, Randy Garst, sisters Phyllis O’Brien and Carrol Garst, and brothers Douglas and Curtis Modlin.

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life Service will be held on 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 16, 2021 at The First Baptist Church in Mankato, Kansas with Pastor Kevin Wood officiating.

There will be a lunch served following the service. Then burial of cremains will follow in the Riverview Cemetery, Scandia, Kansas.

She was a daycare provider and later was the office manager at Overhead Door Company. Cindy was born on October 30, 1974, in Fullerton, NE, the daughter of Raymond and Connie June (Meader) Sowards. She graduated from Washington High School (Washington, KS) in 1993 and from Cloud County Community College (Concordia, KS). On November 4, 2000, Cindy was united in marriage to Brian J. Guffey in McPherson, KS. Survivors include: her loving husband Brian of the home; daughter Katelyn Guffey of McPherson, KS; son Kane Guffey of Ellsworth, KS; mother Connie Sowards of McPherson, KS; grandson Koda McFadden of El Dorado, KS; brother Craig Sowards (Sandy) of Norton, KS; sisters Marie Thayer (Steven) of Kearney, NE and Lacy Sowards of Sioux Falls, SD; father-in-law &amp; mother-in-law John &amp; Kay Guffey of McPherson, KS; sister-in-law Betty Laney (Josh) of Walton, KS; and many extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her father; grandparents Vera Deloras and Vaughn Meader; uncle John Sowards; and nephew Trenton Yianakopulos. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, October 17, 2021, at Stockham Family Funeral Home. Darlene Loretta Eib, 85, passed into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, October 7, 2021. She was born October 3, 1936, to David and Lenora (Ray) Shea at the family home in Miltonvale, KS.&nbsp; 

After graduating from Miltonvale High School in 1954 and receiving a music scholarship, she attended Miltonvale Wesleyan College. &nbsp;

She married Ned E. Eib in 1959.&nbsp; The couple settled and began their lives together in Clay Center, KS, moving to Manhattan, KS in 1961, Washington, KS in 1967, and ultimately California in 1968.&nbsp;

Blessed with daughters Kimberly Anne and Kay Christine, the family enjoyed many wonderful and happy years at their home in Fresno, California.&nbsp; Darlene, the consummate hostess, enjoyed music, travel, photography, and entertaining family and friends.

She worked for Southwestern Bell company for 15 years, and later worked alongside her husband in their Fresno, California veterinary practice. &nbsp;She was active in many women’s groups including serving two terms as president for Central California Veterinary Medical Auxiliary, treasurer for Thoughtless 13 Women in Investing, alumni of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and member of Ladies Welcome Wagon.

Darlene left an impression and touched many lives.&nbsp; Her fun-loving personality, cheerful disposition and kindness will remain with each of us, fortunate to have been warmed by her friendship and love.&nbsp; Her joy for life, was second only to her love, devotion and faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.&nbsp;

When you saw, Darlene, you saw love.&nbsp;

Darlene was preceded in passing by her parents, two infant siblings, brothers John (Jack) Shea, Delbert (Dean) Shea and Jimmy (Jim) Shea, and brother-in-law Harold Elsasser.

She leaves behind husband Ned, daughter Kimberly Eib of Fresno, California, daughter Kay Eib Patrick of Carlsbad, California, sisters, Laura Wendlandt of Manhattan KS, Mary Lou Breen and her husband Larry Breen of Kingwood, TX, sister-in-law Nola Elsasser of Clyde, KS, along with many loving nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Mona’s life began on October 20, 1934 in Waverly, KS. She was the daughter of Arthur “Art” and Angela “Ink” (Beemis) Stonebreaker. Mona is a 1952 graduate of Lebo High School. 

She was united in marriage to Thomas “Wint” Smith on November 14, 1954, at the Lebo United Methodist Church.

 Wint and Mona were the owners of Wint’s Phillip 66 station in Marion and the Short Stop Store next door. Later in life she retired from her position as a cook at St. Luke’s Hospital. 

Mona was a longtime member of the Valley United Methodist Church in Marion. She enjoyed cross stitch and needlepoint, word searches, coloring and watching sports. Mona also enjoyed playing the piano. 

Her greatest joy was her family and friends which includes her children Steve (Stacie) Smith of Marion, and Jay (Judy) Smith of Marion; son-in-law Randy Hulett of Marion; grandchildren Dusty Hulett, Trevor Smith, Jared Smith, Michelle (Drew) Looper, Tyler (Kendra) Smith, and Jake (Melissa) Smith, all of Marion and Josh Smith of Newton; great-grandchildren Brayden, Madisyn, Eldon, Kaden, Tucker, Cole, Max, Tessa, Brylee, Cooper, Weston, Deven, Mazie, Ella and Oliver. 

Mona passed away surrounded by her family on Tuesday, October 12, 2021, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Marion. 

She is preceded in death by her husband Wint, daughter Teresa Hulett, sisters Sonie Wise and Donna Smith and her parents. 

Her family will gather with friends on Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at Yazel-Megli Funeral Home, Marion. Her funeral service will be held on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Valley United Methodist Church and she will be laid to rest in Marion Cemetery.

Russell G. Wilkins, 60, of Abilene, passed away on October 11, 2021. Russ was born August 18, 1961 in Abilene to Leonard and Greta (Van Buskirk) Wilkins. He grew up in Navarre, Kansas, where he attended the local school and graduated from Chapman High School in 1979. On September 6, 1980, he married Andrea Beth Norton in Enterprise. To this union, two sons were born, Jason and Timothy. Russ and Andrea were married for 28 years before her passing in 2008. He later married Angie Woolslayer on February 11, 2011. She survives of the home. For many years, Russ worked as a 911 dispatcher and had recently retired as the communications director for Dickinson County. He loved his work and did it well, but his greatest joy was spending time with his wife, his sons, and his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Angie, of the home; his sons Jason and wife Jenny; and Tim and wife Kara, all of Abilene; his grandchildren Nolan, Avery, Tyler, and Keaton; and two brothers, Rick and wife Sharon of Menomonie, WI, and Randy and wife Maria of Omaha, NE. He will also be missed by Angie’s children Lisa, Cindy, Mike, and Richard Jr., as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. He loved his work and did it well, but his greatest joy was spending time with his wife, his sons, and his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Angie, of the home; his sons Jason and wife Jenny; and Tim and wife Kara, all of Abilene; his grandchildren Nolan, Avery, Tyler, and Keaton; and two brothers, Rick and wife Sharon of Menomonie, WI, and Randy and wife Maria of Omaha, NE. He will also be missed by Angie’s children Lisa, Cindy, Mike, and Richard Jr., as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Russ was preceded in death by his parents and wife Andrea. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 15, 2021, at Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home in Abilene. Marsha Sue Korthanke Weaver, 71, Cocoa Beach, FL, passed away in the early morning hours on Sunday, October 10, 2021, after a three-year battle with cancer.

Many people didn’t know Marsha still had cancer after she recovered from a successful bone marrow stem cell transplant in 2018. Earlier that year, she was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a treatable, but incurable blood cancer, which is the third most common blood cancer only to leukemia and lymphoma.

Marsha was never going to let cancer define her or hold her back from experiencing life to its fullest. She was always upbeat and full of life, even on her last day of life. She didn’t suffer when she passed.

Marsha was born on February 20, 1950 in Sabetha, Kansas. She graduated from Hiawatha, Kansas High School in 1968. She attended Kansas State University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in home economics and journalism in 1972, and a master’s degree in 1975. She worked as a Family and Consumer Sciences Extension Agent for K-State Research &amp; Extension for 36 years, before retiring in 2008. Marsha was married for 48 years to Charles (Chuck) Weaver. They were married on September 1, 1973 in Robinson, KS. She and Chuck moved to Cocoa Beach, FL in 2019. Marsha loved it there. Every day she would sit on the patio overlooking the water with a cup of coffee in the mornings and with a beverage in the evenings watching the beautiful sunsets. She and Chuck were often visited by a local blue heron, whom Marsha named “Harry.” They also keep a home in Abilene, KS where she and Chuck spent the summers watching their grandsons play baseball, soccer and helped with the boys’ 4-H projects for the fair. She was a member of the local PEO Chapter CZ, Literary League and served on the Abilene Community Foundation board of directors. She was also a founding member of the Dickinson County Arts Council.

In her retirement, she enjoyed volunteering at the Eisenhower Presidential Library. Marsha loved to read and enjoyed socializing with her friends in a local book club and a French club. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Abilene, Kansas. Marsha liked to stay active and could always be found walking around the neighborhood in the mornings, whether in Abilene or Cocoa Beach. Marsha’s friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Abilene. The family will also host a visitation on Friday, October 22 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Martin Becker Carlson Funeral Home in Abilene.

She is preceded in death by her mother Lois O'Neal of Wichita; her father Larry Coen of Salina; her brother Leonard Urban; and grandson Zachary Cunningham.

Shelly is survived by her husband, Steven Heatherington, of 35 years; her three daughters, Savannah Wiegand, Amanda Cunningham (Brandon Cunningham) and Halie Heatherington; and her brother Gerald Urban Jr. Shelly had nine grandchildren who will miss her dearly.

Joanne Lorene (Gebhart) Pridey, 73, passed away October 9, 2021, in Salina, Kansas with her family by her side.

She was born July 17, 1948 to James Robeson and Florence Lucille (Leister) Gebhart in Salina, KS.&nbsp; She married Roger Elwyn Pridey on July 10, 1982.

She graduated from Salina High School in 1966 and went on to receive her B.S. in home economics from Kansas State University in 1970.&nbsp; She also earned her M.S. from K-State in 1978.&nbsp;

 She took great pride in being an educator and she taught FACS at several districts including Wakefield, Abilene, Chapman, Wichita North and most recently Salina.&nbsp; In 1990, she switched to science and taught at Roosevelt-Lincoln / Lakewood Middle Schools until her retirement in 2009.&nbsp; 

She attended many enrichment opportunities including being selected as a science teacher for two NASA training programs in Texas and Alabama.&nbsp; Her love of the classroom continued post-retirement as she immensely enjoyed her time as a substitute teacher in the Minneapolis school district up until 2021. &nbsp;

She was a loyal supporter of KSU sports and held season football tickets for more than 30 years.&nbsp; In addition, she was always an avid fan of her daughters’ activities and traveled many, many miles to cheer on Cowley CC and West Texas A&amp;M basketball games as well as Colby CC and KSU equestrian shows.

She served the community and beyond via various groups including as a longtime volunteer for Friends of the Salina Animal Shelter, Rolling Hills Zoo, KWU athletics, Kansas Equifest, and the NJCAA Women’s Basketball tournament.&nbsp; She served on board positions for the Kansas Foundation for Ag in the Classroom, Salina Animal Control Advisory Board, and for 10 years as secretary of the Salina Food Bank.&nbsp; She was also a proud member of the P.E.O. sisterhood.

She was a longtime member of Salina First Covenant Church, attending Women of the Word and Life Group events, volunteering with vacation bible school and newcomer activities, and serving as a deacon. &nbsp;

Her love for animals and agriculture stretched beyond the classroom as she especially cherished spending time with her dogs and horses and loved to attend trail rides in the area as well as on her family farm.&nbsp; In her “spare time” she liked reading mystery novels, pulling weeds and working on her flower beds, traveling, attending dance classes, and live music events.

She was preceded in death by her parents Jim and Florence, and sister Jeanne Pohlman.

She is survived by her husband Roger of Salina, daughters Megan (Herb) Bindseil of Floresville, TX and Kara Pridey (Jay Hunnicutt) of Carrollton, TX, granddaughters Reese and Bristol Bindseil, uncle Verlyn Richards of Manhattan, KS, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive friends at from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, October 17 at Salina First Covenant Church on Sunday. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 18, at&nbsp; Salina First Covenant Church.

SALINA - Frank R. "Butch" Sebesta, went home to the Lord Jesus on Saturday, August 21, 2021. Frank was born July 27, 1946 and was 75 years old. He married Dorothy Hail of Salina on June 8, 1996 at First Foursquare Church, Salina, KS.

Born and raised in Wilson, Kansas, Frank was a graduate of Wilson High School. For many years, the family farm was the way of life for him and his siblings. Frank enlisted in the United States Air Force and served four years. He was a former Kansas Highway Patrolman, and private investigator. Frank served as office manager at The Ashby House Shelter for 12 years before retiring.

Frank had a tremendous love for the Lord and was a dedicated member of Higher Praise Church. He was an active in the church community.

Frank is preceded in death by his parents Frank and Alberta Sebesta. 

He is survived by his wife Dorothy Sebesta, daughter Roxanne Matous and son, Mark Neal all of Salina; two grandchildren, Jason Matous of Firestone, Colorado and Kelsey Hitchcock of Solomon, KS; and many nieces and nephews.

He enjoyed meeting various people he encountered and amazed himself at how small the world actually was, in all the commonalities we all have. He took great pride in all our law enforcement family. He liked to sit and count all the family members we had in law enforcement from highway patrol, local police, sheriff depts., Border Patrol, DEA, state Dept. of Corrections, and out of state agencies.&nbsp;

Family was the most important part of Tom's life. If you asked him about his family, his pets always were some of the most important. Tom loved animals and animals loved him. On several occasions he would be at a call and a dog or even a cat would jump into is patrol vehicle ready to go with him. One day when Tom showed up at a door to serve a paper one of the dogs went and got his toy went out the door by Tom’s leg and jumped in his TK and was going with him. He would always stop and pull a deceased animal off the road. I asked once why when it wasn't a very large animal and wouldn't damage a vehicle. He said out of respect to the animal. By doing this he discovered baby possums still alive when their momma wasn't. Of course, he had to raise them up. Along with various other animals along the way, a pigeon, racoons, rabbits, a turkey he named Dinner that followed him around, and a deer he named Dance. All which found him. 

Tom loved being outdoors enjoying nature planting trees and a garden, watching trees turn. One of his happiest times in life was living at Lake Perry and going for a walk along the lake every night after work while the dogs ran through the water.&nbsp;

Tom was a loving husband and best friend to me (his wife Tina). He helped raise Scott and Sarah, attending all their sporting and school events, being so proud of them every step along the way.&nbsp;

Tom was usually a quiet man, yet when he had something to say he could go on and on. He was very intelligent, rarely a subject he could not converse about. He would be amazed that he could have the whole world in his hand with his little cell phone. 

He was very generous. He always came home needing more cash because he gave away his last dollar or bought food or gas for someone. Many times, animals would be left behind after an accident when the owners were transported and needed to be housed or treated at the vet. The vet wanted money in advance and he always took care of it. Tom never put himself first. He gave so much and asked for so little. The only thing I ever remember him asking of me was one day he called me and said he would really love to have some mashed potatoes and gravy and fried chicken.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Silvia (Purintun) Burtzloff; and son Ti Burtzloff.

Survivors include his loving wife of 28 years, Tina Burtzloff of the home; children Sarah Sloniger of Salina, Kansas, Scott Walker (Mandy) of Gypsum, Kansas; brothers Harold Burtzloff (Ellen) of Tucson, Arizona, Robert Burtzloff (Jill) of Liberal, Kansas; sisters Sharon Clark (Jim) of Auburn, Nebraska, Audrey Witt of Garden City, Kansas; grandchildren Tilawn Burtzloff, Kyle Sloniger, Aaron Sloniger, Cayden Walker, Brayden Walker, Kelsei Walker.

Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at Roselawn Heights Memorial Chapel, 1920 East Crawford, Salina.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, October 21, 2021, at Ellsworth Methodist Church 322 N. Douglas Ave., Ellsworth, Kansas 67439. Burial will follow luncheon at Natoma Cemetery, 402 N. 4th&nbsp;Street, Natoma, Kansas 67651.

Leslie L. Wagner, 88, Bennington, died Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at his home.&nbsp; He was born June 5, 1933 in Bennington, the only child of Harry and Emma (Horn) Wagner.

Leslie was a 1951 graduate of Bennington High School.&nbsp; He and Gloria Comfort were united in marriage on January 1, 1953.&nbsp; Leslie was a longtime farmer and musician.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Gloria on December 27, 2020.

Survivors are his daughter Connie (Don) Weiland; grandchildren Jamie (Jeremy) Palenske and Jeff (Alicia) Weiland; great-grandchildren Brayden and Brenna Palenske and Kinley and Krayson Weiland; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation will be from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 14 at Wilson Family Funeral Home, Minneapolis. The family will not be present.&nbsp; Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 15 at the Bennington Cemetery.&nbsp;

Jean Anette Linder, age 90, died October 8, 2021, in Wakefield, KS. She was born February 14, 1931, to Wayne Arlington and Francis Grace (Baird) Riggs in Garden City, KS. Jean grew up in Hutchinson, KS and graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1949. She then attended Hutchinson Junior College and received her associates degree in 1951. 

Jean married Orival Linder on December 16, 1951. They made their home in Clay Center in 1960. 

Jean worked as the shipping coordinator at Hutchinson Mayrath for many years. She also took care of the bookkeeping for Orival’s veterinary practice for almost 30 years and was the bookkeeper for their son Jay’s trucking business. 

She was an avid gardener, cook and sports fan, particularly of the Royals, Chiefs and Kansas State. Above all other sports she was an avid golfer and was considered an expert on the game’s complicated rules. 

Jean was always upbeat and never complained even through her long illness with inclusion body myositis. 

She was a member of AVMA Auxiliary, Kansas Women’s Golf Association, Triple-M Investment Club, the Clay Center Country Club, and the Clay Center Christian Church, and was a 4-H and Girl Scout leader, and a Sunday school and vacation bible school teacher.

 Jean was preceded in death by her husband Orival, parents, and stepmother Blanche Riggs.

Daughter: Susan (Mike) Gillespie of Manhattan

Son: John (Christene) Linder of Wakefield, KS

Six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren
