Ronald Wayne Champlin, age 82, of Concordia, KS, passed away on Friday, July 16, 2021 at his residence in Pagosa Springs, Colorado. &nbsp;He was born on March 17, 1939 in Concordia, Kansas to Robert O. &amp; Mildred L. (Huber) Champlin.

He graduated from Concordia High School in 1957.&nbsp; He graduated from Washburn University with a bachelor’s degree in business in 1961.

He owned and operated Christensen Oil and Champlin Tire Recycling.&nbsp;

Ron was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He was a charter member of Mid-America Tire Dealers Association, where he served as past president.&nbsp; Ron received their highest award given, which was Service To The Industry Award. In 1989 then Governor Mike Hayden appointed Ron to the Solid Waste and Recycling Commission.&nbsp; He was a Boy Scout Troop Master for 10 years.&nbsp; Ron also mentored several young men through the Concordia Big Brothers Big Sisters.

He married Susan M. Whiteman on May 7, 1961 in Topeka, KS. &nbsp;She preceded him on June 22, 2008.

Ron was a outdoorsmen, he had his own apple orchard, enjoyed gardening, traveling on many occasions all around the world especially with his grandchildren at his side on many vacation trips. Ron was also a cattleman where he enjoyed being outdoors running his ranching operation.

He is survived by three sons, Gary Champlin (Debra), Bennington, KS; David Champlin and Corey Champlin (Angela) all of Concordia; special friend Judy Kircher, Concordia, KS; brothers Dr. Bruce Champlin (Margie), Surprise, AZ; Keith Christensen, Salina and step-brother, Damon Christensen (Laura), Concordia; 12 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; brother-in-law David Whiteman, Concordia.

He was preceded in death by his wife Susan; son Shaun; grandson Scott Champlin; parents Robert Champlin (Pauline) and Mildred Christensen (Chris); brother Robert “Bob” Champlin; sister Ivona Kemp and step-brother Loren Christensen.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 23, 2021 at the Wesleyan Church, Concordia, Kansas, with Pastors David Redmond and Bob Burns officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow the services at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia.&nbsp;

Visitation will be held from 1-8 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 22, 2021 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home.&nbsp;

Randy was the proud father to three children, Bridget Johnston, Bryan Tate, and Aaron Tate and grandfather to four grandchildren.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Randy was preceded in death by his parents; infant son Nathan Tate; stepfather Warren Taylor; paternal grandparents Lewis and Thelma Tate; Maternal grandparents Andy and Minnie Hoard; brother Curtis Tate, Stepsister Georgie Taylor, and stepbrother Tom Taylor.

His siblings Max Tate, Brenda Marcotte, Dedra Landon, and Willie Taylor all survive, along with many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Randy enjoyed a busy life collecting antique clocks, woodworking, and spending time with his friends and family. &nbsp; He was loved deeply by the family of Kyle and Jenny Williams and their four children, to which he was a devoted friend and family member.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, July 25, 2021 at the Phelps Funeral Home in Miltonvale, Kansas.

Graveside inurnment services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 26, 2021 at the Miltonvale Cemetery, Miltonvale, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his father Ronnie Mack Moncrief Sr. in 1996. Ronnie passed away on Friday, July 16, 2021 at the Geary Community Hospital in Junction City, Kansas.

His loving family includes his wife Teresa Stepherson of Herington; three children of the home, Sevana, Brianna, and Ronnie all of Herington; mother Martha Eleanor Taylor of Savannah, Georgia; and brothers Robert Moncrief and Ryan Moncrief (Melissa) all of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Reagan Moncrief (Shannon) of Savannah, Georgia.

Dona “Jane” was born on April 10, 1933, the daughter of Dwight Custer and Mable Pearl (Jones) Stevens in Satanta, Kansas. She graduated from Florence High Class of 1951 and married Earl Russell Mann on June 23, 1951, in the Florence United Methodist Church.

Jane was vice president of a jewelry company based in Chicago. She enjoyed designing jewelry for 25 years, including for the Miss Kansas and Miss America Pageants. For 28 years she held her realtor and real estate broker licenses. She was a member of Unity Church and the Association of Realtors and was listed in the Who’s Who for Women in Business directory. In her younger days she worked at the soda fountain at the drug store in Florence. She also rode horses and participated in parades, was a drum major and also a band majorette. She enjoyed dancing, playing the piano, crocheting, crossword puzzles, traveling, playing cards, sewing, selling real estate and jewelry. Most of all she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and would attend as many of their events as she could.

Her loving family includes her children Nedra (William) Olenick of Halstead, Doug (Vici) Mann, Darla Diamond, Don (Angel) Mann all of Wichita; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Earl in 2015; sister Esther Sinclair; brother Dewy Stevens; and her beloved dog, Mr. Angel. Jane passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 15, 2021 at the age of 88 years old.

Her family will gather with friends on Thursday, July 22, from 5-7 p.m. at Yazel-Megli Funeral Home, 205 Elm Street, Marion, Kansas. Funeral service will be held on Friday, July 23, at 11:00 a.m. (early viewing at 10:00 a.m.) at Ridgepoint Church, 8000 W. 21st, Wichita, Kansas 67205.

Brenda Lee Rupert, 44, of Marquette passed away Wednesday, July 14, 2021 in Salina, with family by her side.  Brenda was born April 19, 1977 in Salina to Randy and Sharon Lister. 

    Brenda grew up in Washington and always spoke of how much she loved her home state. She enjoyed running with her family, playing saxophone in the band, and being on the cheerleading squad. Brenda graduated high school in Kansas and attended college. 

She married David Weber on November 4, 1995 in Delphos, and they had three children. Brenda married Mitch Rupert on May 5, 2005 in Estes Park, CO. 

She worked as a para educator for Smoky Valley High School for over 15 years. During that time she had the opportunity to touch many people's lives, being a friend, mentor, and teacher. She considered all her students "her kids." Brenda participated in many activities and functions and loved being a cheerleading coach at SVHS. 

    Her biggest joy was her family and grandchildren and she leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories. Her kids and grandbabies made her shine like the star she was. It would be wrong to say that she lost her battle to cancer because she never stopped fighting. Through her, we know what true resilience and perseverance look like. Brenda was truly one of a kind and will be missed by everyone she knew. 

    She is survived by her husband Mitch, of the home;  daughters Madi Weber of Salina and Kati Yates (Gary) of Salina; son Bradyn Weber (Taylor) of Junction City, KS;  parents Randy and Sharon Lister of Delphos;  sisters Angela Sidener (Jeff) of Spokane, WA and Jen Bowen (Jeremy) of Richmond, VA; grandchildren Carter and Asher Yates, and Nash Weber; and niece Peyton Bowen; her chihuahuas Elly and Daisy, as well as many extended family members and dear friends.

    Brenda was preceded in death by her stillborn son Colby James Rupert; cousin Charlie Palmer; paternal grandparents; and close friend Glenda Flora and her son Ethan Flora.

    Cremation has been chosen.  A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 19, 2021 at Crick-Christians Funeral Home, 103 N. Washington, Lindsborg, with Pastor Jon Fillipi officiating. Reception to follow at the American Legion in Lindsborg.

It would be wrong to say that she lost her battle to cancer because she never stopped fighting. Through her, we know what true resilience and perseverance look like. Brenda was truly one of a kind and will be missed by everyone she knew. She is survived by her husband Mitch, of the home; daughters Madi Weber of Salina and Kati Yates (Gary) of Salina; son Bradyn Weber (Taylor) of Junction City, KS; parents Randy and Sharon Lister of Delphos; sisters Angela Sidener (Jeff) of Spokane, WA and Jen Bowen (Jeremy) of Richmond, VA; grandchildren Carter and Asher Yates, and Nash Weber; and niece Peyton Bowen; her chihuahuas Elly and Daisy, as well as many extended family members and dear friends. Brenda was preceded in death by her stillborn son Colby James Rupert; cousin Charlie Palmer; paternal grandparents; and close friend Glenda Flora and her son Ethan Flora. Cremation has been chosen. A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 19, 2021 at Crick-Christians Funeral Home, 103 N. Washington, Lindsborg, with Pastor Jon Fillipi officiating. Reception to follow at the American Legion in Lindsborg. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Brenda Rupert Memorial Education Fund at the Bank of Tescott. Dale George Grothusen, 101, originally of Ellsworth, died December 7, 2020 in Salina. He was born December 17, 1918 on a farm in Ellsworth County to William and Christine (Strella) Grothusen. He was a farmer and stockman, retiring in 2003.

When he was eight, the family moved to a farm northeast of Ellsworth, which was to be his home for nearly the remainder of his life. At that time the farmhouse had few comforts and no indoor plumbing, which he later added among other household additions and improvements throughout his life. He attended Ellsworth public schools.

He served in the US Army Air Force during World War II. He was a waist gunner and engineer on a B-17 bomber, flying 51 missions over northern Italy, Austria, Hungary, Rumania, Yugoslavia, Germany, and France. His crew flew out of Amendola Air Field near Foggia, Italy. In later years he reunited with surviving crew members to reminisce. He traveled to the World War II Memorial in Washington, DC on an Honor Flight, in recognition of his military service.

Dale married another Ellsworth County native, Dorothy Neuschafer, on June 30, 1945 on Mercer Island near Seattle, WA. Following his discharge from the service that year, they returned to the family farm where he took over the wheat farming operation from his parents. He took well-deserved pride in improving the land through soil cultivation and conservation, while also tending his herd of Herefords. During his early years of farming and raising cattle, he also worked part-time for Cities Service Gas Company and for Ellsworth Township as a trustee and road maintenance worker.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ellsworth, where he also served as a church elder, VFW Post 6485, and American Legion Post 174, all of Ellsworth. He was a long-time blood donor. He and Dorothy enjoyed playing pinochle with their card club friends for many years, visiting their grown children, and traveling to Czechoslovakia (now the Czech Republic) and Germany. In later years they continued their lifetime enjoyment of polka music and dancing, traveling to polka fests in Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, Texas, and Arizona.

Dale will be remembered for his love for his family and the land he farmed, his sunny disposition, his warm sense of humor, his generosity to others, and his ability to build, redesign, or repair just about anything he needed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Ralph, Lloyd, and Jack, and sister Dorothy Remley. He is survived by his wife Dorothy, his daughters Marsha Drebelbis (James) and Ruth Obadal (Charles Hammonds) and son William H.G. Brooks (Richard Black), and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

At Dale’s request, his body will be donated to the University of Kansas Medical Center for education and research. Burial of the remains will be at Ellsworth Cemetery.

Dale’s memorial service was delayed because of the pandemic. 

It will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 23, 2021 at First Presbyterian Church in Ellsworth. Courtesy masks requested by the family. Military funeral rites will take place at Ellsworth Memorial Cemetery following the service. A reception and light refreshment will follow at the church.

She was a homemaker, raising four children before becoming the deputy county clerk for Ellsworth County and the Ellsworth County treasurer. She was a member of the Ellsworth First United Methodist Church and a past member of the Ellsworth County Historical Society.

Paula is survived by her daughter Cherie Sauers (Marty) of Kanopolis; sons Ed Schneider (Geneva), James Schneider, and Randy Schneider (Melissa) all of Kanopolis; 12&nbsp;grandchildren and 19&nbsp;great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Edward Marvin Schneider.

Sister Ramona Medina died July 16, 2021, at Nazareth Motherhouse in Concordia, KS.&nbsp; She was 84 years old and a religious sister for 66 years.&nbsp; She was born in La Jara, CO on March 14, 1937, to Juan and Celina Romero Medina, the thirteenth of fourteen children, and was baptized Elvira Elidia.&nbsp; She entered the Atchison Benedictine Order in 1955, then transferred to the Sisters of St. Joseph, Concordia, KS on December 21, 1980.&nbsp; On December 11, 1955, Elvira received the habit and was given the name Sister Ramona. &nbsp;She kept this name when she transferred to the Sisters of St. Joseph of Concordia, KS.&nbsp; She pronounced first vows on December 16, 1956 and final vows on January 1, 1959.

Sister Ramona received a BS in education in 1970 from Mt. St. Scholastica College, Atchison, KS. &nbsp;In 1983 she received a BS in occupational therapy from the University of Kansas.&nbsp; Sister Ramona worked as an occupational therapist in Shawnee Mission, Kansas City, Onaga, Ellsworth and McPherson, KS and in Lakeland, FL.&nbsp; She was elected to the Leadership Council of the Congregation in 1999 and served for eight years as a regional coordinator.&nbsp; In 2009 she co-founded the Neighbor to Neighbor ministry in Concordia, KS.

Sister Ramona was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and six sisters.&nbsp; She is survived by two sisters, S. Celinda Medina of Atchison and S. Rebecca Medina of Framingham, MA; and one brother, Luis of Monte Vista, CO.&nbsp;

He is survived by his wife of the home, son David Cress (Dee), daughter Liz Alvarez (Mark Larson), three granddaughters, Caitlin Wallace (Grant), Becca Fritch (Garrett) and Karli Alvarez, one great-granddaughter Metilda Marie Wallace. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Perry Donald Burwell and sister Lucille Burwell Norris.

Brenda passed away of a heart attack on the afternoon of July 12, at the age of 77, in Wichita KS doing what she loved to do, planning for a trip. She was born Dec. 29, 1943 to D.W. and Edith Evans in Lebo, Kansas. She was united in marriage to Roger Lyman on Aug. 9, 1963. They had two children and lived in Lebo almost their entire life. Roger entered the Chapman, KS nursing home in 2015 and Brenda moved to Abilene, KS to finish their life. She was our friend and our mom and sometimes a pain in the butt. Stubborn yet sweet, 100% on the move all the time, sharp as a tack in mind and mouth. Her sense of humor was the best. She was a lot of fun, we will miss her antics. She loved our dad, Paulette, Paige and Lowell so much but her greatest love was for her grandson Brodie. We know she will watch over him and probably haunt the rest of us. She was a clean freak, control freak with a heart of gold and always cheered for the underdog. March Madness was her favorite time of year. She always said “this is your mom” when she called and “I love you” when she hung up. She said what she meant and meant what she said. Never ask her anything unless you wanted the honest to God truth. When she used your middle name you were in trouble and every problem was solved with food. She was there for us every time no matter the time. Love you Mom, there will never be another one like you. Give Dad a hug. We know you are having drinks with crackers and cheese and making fun of your girls. Miss ya already, Brenda Jean. Brenda is survived by her daughters Paulette of Lantana, Texas, and Paige (Lowell Westfall) of Abilene, Kansas; her grandson Brodie Westfall of Abilene, Kansas; her brothers Bud (Paula) Evans of Lebo, KS and John (Sara) Evans of Lebo, KS; and nieces Mary (Joel) Kaczor of Lawrence, Susan (Rob) Atchison of Arvonia KS, Dylan (Chelsea) Evans of Lebo, KS, Megan and Kate Evans of Lebo, KS; and great-nephews Camden and Degan of Lawrence and Devan of Arvonia. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Jimmy, and her husband Roger. Brenda lived a full life full of love and laughter and traveling.

She did not wish to have services and would rather you toast a drink to her on the next trip you take, and she will be cremated and buried with her husband Roger in the Abilene Cemetery.

She was born Dec. 29, 1943 to D.W. and Edith Evans in Lebo, Kansas. She was united in marriage to Roger Lyman on Aug. 9, 1963. They had two children and lived in Lebo almost their entire life. Roger entered the Chapman, KS nursing home in 2015 and Brenda moved to Abilene, KS to finish their life. She was our friend and our mom and sometimes a pain in the butt. Stubborn yet sweet, 100% on the move all the time, sharp as a tack in mind and mouth. Her sense of humor was the best. She was a lot of fun, we will miss her antics. She loved our dad, Paulette, Paige and Lowell so much but her greatest love was for her grandson Brodie. We know she will watch over him and probably haunt the rest of us. She was a clean freak, control freak with a heart of gold and always cheered for the underdog. March Madness was her favorite time of year. She always said “this is your mom” when she called and “I love you” when she hung up. She said what she meant and meant what she said. Never ask her anything unless you wanted the honest to God truth. When she used your middle name you were in trouble and every problem was solved with food. She was there for us every time no matter the time. Love you Mom, there will never be another one like you. Give Dad a hug. We know you are having drinks with crackers and cheese and making fun of your girls. Miss ya already, Brenda Jean. Brenda is survived by her daughters Paulette of Lantana, Texas, and Paige (Lowell Westfall) of Abilene, Kansas; her grandson Brodie Westfall of Abilene, Kansas; her brothers Bud (Paula) Evans of Lebo, KS and John (Sara) Evans of Lebo, KS; and nieces Mary (Joel) Kaczor of Lawrence, Susan (Rob) Atchison of Arvonia KS, Dylan (Chelsea) Evans of Lebo, KS, Megan and Kate Evans of Lebo, KS; and great-nephews Camden and Degan of Lawrence and Devan of Arvonia. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Jimmy, and her husband Roger. Brenda lived a full life full of love and laughter and traveling.She did not wish to have services and would rather you toast a drink to her on the next trip you take, and she will be cremated and buried with her husband Roger in the Abilene Cemetery. Ingeborg "Inge" Levinson, age 94, passed away Thursday, July 1, 2021. She was born on July 3, 1926, in Frankfurt Germany to Friedrich Richard Klein and Anna Berta Sonntag.

She married Bill Levinson on July 23, 1959 and spent many happy years "in the house with all the green Christmas lights," that she lived in for 50 years. Christmas was her favorite time of year, and she always decorated her house from top to bottom.

Inge was a very active person and could always be seen working in her yard and tending her flowers. She was a long-time member of the Ladies Reading Club and Garden Club and had many friends. Ingeborg was the definition of "a lady."

She had a daughter Ingrid and a son Ben, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Inge was laid to rest on July 12, 2021, in a private ceremony.

Donald D. Deatherage, age 86 of Salina, KS passed away Wednesday, June 30, 2021, at Salina Regional Health Center. Donald was born in Mannford, Oklahoma on November 30, 1934, the son of Ray and Gertrude Deatherage. Donald met his wife Della of 66 years, while he was working in the oilfields and Della was a waitress at the Tower Café in Russell, KS. On January 15, 1955, Donald was united in marriage to Della Lantz at the First Christian Church in Russell, KS.

He worked for Sidey Drilling, Trans World Drilling in South America, Thompson Transport, Eastern Express, ANR Trucking and Graves Truck Line. While working for ANR Trucking Donald and Della became local business owners.&nbsp; In 1964 they started Modern Landscaping, which evolved into Salina Tree, Inc., Greenburst Lawns, Inc. and D’S Weed &amp; Pest Control, Inc. He was also a partner of Target Drilling Co. of Kansas.

He loved drilling for oil in North America, Brazil and Costa Rica, working on Big Iron, and riding motorcycles. Most conversations had something related to his love of his family or the oil patch. He was an avid Teamster Union 696 member, a master mason of 37 years with Salina Lodge # 60, a 32nd Scottish Rite, and ISIS Shrine member of 36 years. He was also a member of National Arborist Association and Kansas Arborist since 1974. His other love was to hunt big game all over North America, Scotland and Africa. On his locally owned farms he enjoyed hunting deer, pheasants and quail. He also loved his two dogs Angel and Wiggles.

Donald was preceded in death by his father Ray, mother Gertrude and a brother Darrell Deatherage and his stepfather Raymond Bowers. Donald is survived by his wife Della; his three children, Don Ray, Cheryl Lynn and Edward Dean; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Donald’s wishes were to be cremated. A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 31, 2021, at First Christian Church, 2727 E. Crawford Salina, KS and will include a Masonic service.&nbsp; Celebrations will continue following the service.

Patty Lou Weis, 95, of Bavaria, passed away Thursday, July 15, 2021.&nbsp; She was born in rural Hazen, Arkansas on September 21, 1925.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her husband Harold, parents, James and Gertrude Denson; daughter Glenda Fountain; granddaughter Diana Weis; and siblings.

Pat left Arkansas and moved to Salina to help her brother and his family and during this time she met and married Harold Weis.&nbsp; They settled in Bavaria where they owned and operated a service station.&nbsp; Pat was involved in several community organizations including EHU, Democratic Women, VFW Auxiliary, and many others.&nbsp; She was honored with the Kansas Older Workers award in September 2010.&nbsp; She owned and operated a cleaning service for several years. &nbsp;

Pat and Harold had three children, Carolyn Salinas, Lee Weis, and Glenda Fountain; two grandchildren, James and Diana; seven great-grandchildren, Jesse, Morgan, Kensley, Quinn, Jordan, Cooper and Wyatt; one great-great grandchild, Acen.&nbsp; Pat often said that she had a good life this was in part because she lived life fully.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at Ryan Mortuary.

Katherine “Katie” Lucille Brubaker, 90, of Salina, passed away July 14, 2020. She was born March 17, 1931 in Salina, Kansas to Harold Buttermore and Sylvia Pihl. Katie has worn many hats in her life. She worked with her first husband in his business. She was an elevator operation at the United Building. She was an account clerk with Gamble-Robinson for 20 years. What people will remember her for the most however is the time she spent as a clerk at Gibsons. She was a warm and welcoming smile and a friend to all. She had a positive impact and touched many lives. She will be deeply missed. Katie found a second home in her friends of AA. The Alano club and Group #1 were very important to her. You could always count on seeing her at a meeting every day. Come rain or shine, she was there for those who needed her and they were always there for her as well. Survivors include her daughters Noeline Miller-Chestnut of Salina, Anita Morris (Kevin) of Salina; and son David Miller of Evansville, Indiana; 10 grandchildren, Tina Zahn (Nathan), Tiffany Martin (Kevin), Aubrey Miller, Amber Morgan (Robin), Tiana Welsh, Adam Miller, Traci Goldsberry, Samantha Goalden, Kyle Miller, Caleb Miller; 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Ervin “Al” A. Ray, 91, of Salina, passed away peacefully at home, with his beloved wife by his side, Saturday, July 10, 2021.

He was born July 18, 1929, in La Cygne, Kansas to William A. and Faye C. (Sanders) Ray, who precede him in death.

Al met and married the love of his life in Margaret A. Hair, May 30, 1953, in West Lake, Louisiana.

Al joined the Air Force in 1948, when he was just 19 years old.&nbsp; During his 20 years of service, Al became an air traffic controller and earned six bronze oak leaf clusters and one Oak Leaf Cluster Silver Star. Al’s wife, Margaret, at times was able to travel with him as he performed his military duties while he was stationed abroad.

Following his retirement from the Air Force in 1968, Al went to work for the FAA in 1969, and became an air traffic controller at the Kansas City International Airport, then transferred to the Salina Municipal Airport.&nbsp; During the air traffic controllers strike in 1981, Al figured it was time to get out and do something different.

Al went to work for the State of Kansas where he worked for several years as a vocational evaluator and retired several years later.

While Al was employed with the FAA, Al attended and graduated from Marymount College, earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration.

Al was a man of overwhelming ambition and talent. None more evident and meaningful than the three years it took him to frame, and build a home in Mentor, Kansas, in which he would continue to love his wife in, and lived there for 33 years.

Al also was known to grow a garden anyone would have been jealous of.&nbsp; The sight of a beautiful vegetable garden and the produce it provided will long be remembered by those who partook in and enjoyed his harvest.

He was preceded in death by his brother Kenneth Ray.

Those left to mourn and remember Al’s memory and his gentle heart include his most beloved wife of 68 years, Margaret A. (Hair) Ray, their three children, Janice C. Martinez and husband, Alvaro of Pasadena, TX, Steven A. Ray and wife Elizabeth of Jacksonville, Fl., and Stuart W. Ray and wife Joan of Salina, a brother to Dale Ray of Linn Valley, KS., and Virgil Ray of Centerville, KS, and six grandchildren, Lauran, Jessica, Leslie, Alvaro “Ito”, Sarah and Brent.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at the Evangelical Covenant Church, 102 S. Washington St., Lindsborg, KS.

The committal service will be 2:00 p.m., also on Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at Roselawn Memorial Park where Al will be laid to rest with military honors provided by the U.S. Air Force Honor Detail from McConnell Air Force Base, and the American Legion Riders, Post 62, of Salina.

Ray, 91, of Salina, passed away peacefully at home, with his beloved wife by his side, Saturday, July 10, 2021.He was born July 18, 1929, in La Cygne, Kansas to William A. and Faye C. (Sanders) Ray, who precede him in death.Al met and married the love of his life in Margaret A. Hair, May 30, 1953, in West Lake, Louisiana.Al joined the Air Force in 1948, when he was just 19 years old.&nbsp; During his 20 years of service, Al became an air traffic controller and earned six bronze oak leaf clusters and one Oak Leaf Cluster Silver Star. Al’s wife, Margaret, at times was able to travel with him as he performed his military duties while he was stationed abroad.Following his retirement from the Air Force in 1968, Al went to work for the FAA in 1969, and became an air traffic controller at the Kansas City International Airport, then transferred to the Salina Municipal Airport.&nbsp; During the air traffic controllers strike in 1981, Al figured it was time to get out and do something different.Al went to work for the State of Kansas where he worked for several years as a vocational evaluator and retired several years later.While Al was employed with the FAA, Al attended and graduated from Marymount College, earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration.Al was a man of overwhelming ambition and talent. None more evident and meaningful than the three years it took him to frame, and build a home in Mentor, Kansas, in which he would continue to love his wife in, and lived there for 33 years.Al also was known to grow a garden anyone would have been jealous of.&nbsp; The sight of a beautiful vegetable garden and the produce it provided will long be remembered by those who partook in and enjoyed his harvest.He was preceded in death by his brother Kenneth Ray.Those left to mourn and remember Al’s memory and his gentle heart include his most beloved wife of 68 years, Margaret A. (Hair) Ray, their three children, Janice C. Martinez and husband, Alvaro of Pasadena, TX, Steven A. Ray and wife Elizabeth of Jacksonville, Fl., and Stuart W. Ray and wife Joan of Salina, a brother to Dale Ray of Linn Valley, KS., and Virgil Ray of Centerville, KS, and six grandchildren, Lauran, Jessica, Leslie, Alvaro “Ito”, Sarah and Brent.A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at the Evangelical Covenant Church, 102 S. Rhonda Lou Blazek, 73, died July 15, 2021, at her home in Salina, 
Kansas.&nbsp; She was born November 17, 1947, in Glendale, Cal., the daughter
 of Chester H. and Anna Louise (Wray) Smith.

On May 21, 1966, she married Edward LeRoy Blazek in Dubuque, Kansas. 
They later divorced, and remarried May 21, 1989.&nbsp; He preceded her in 
death on October 14, 2005.

A lifetime resident of Hoisington, Rhonda was a long time Hoisington 
E.M.S. director, also being employed by Essex, Albert Co-op, Fuller 
Brush and the Women’s Recovery Center.&nbsp; She enjoyed gardening, reading, 
tinkering with computers, and above all, time spent with her 
grandchildren.

She is survived by: a son, Eric Blazek and wife Kristy of Hoisington;
 and a daughter, Chrystie Blazek and husband Rob Teschke of Salina; two 
brothers, Randy Smith of Great Bend, and Ron Smith and wife Christina of
 Hoisington; 10 grandchildren, Austin LaViolette, Nathan LaViolette, 
Ryan Meade, Shannon Meade, Steven Mickle, Karissa Wagner, Kelsea Wagner,
 Kaleb Blazek, Brady Blazek and Ali Jo Blazek; and 17 great 
grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Chet and Louise Smith, 
husband, Ed, an infant son, Paul Lee Blazek, and son, Aaron Lee Blazek.

Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, July 23, 2021, with
 the family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Nicholson-Ricke
 Funeral Home.&nbsp; Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 24, 
2021, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Don Fisher 
presiding.&nbsp; Burial will follow in Hoisington City Cemetery.

Lillian Marie Nelson, 99, of Lindsborg passed away Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at Bethany Home. Lillian was born October 5, 1921 in Lindsborg, KS to the late Julius and the late Myrtle (Kimmel) Esping.  

Lillian graduated from Salina High School and on May 27, 1941, she married Carl M. Nelson in Salina, KS.

She was a retired food service worker at Bethany College.

Survivors include her daughter Carla Jamison (Keith) of Destin, FL; son&nbsp; Jim Nelson (Betty) of Lindsborg, KS; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Carl; brothers Bob and Jim Esping; sister Marjorie Sartori; and great-grandson Benjamin Carl Nelson.

Private family committal will take place at Elmwood Cemetery.  Memorial services will be held in the fall.

John Walter Riggs, 79, of Lindsborg died Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at home in Lindsborg.  John was born March 7, 1942 in Kingman, KS to the late Cecil W. and the late Blanche (Miller) Riggs.  

He married Jane Mary (Bock) Riggs on November 24, 1962 at Manhattan, KS. 

John earned two bachelor’s degrees, one in landscape architecture and one in city planning. He worked as a city planner and was owner of Riggs Associates, Lindsborg, Ks, in addition to being the owner/operator of the Riggs Arboretum, Waterloo, KS.  He hosted The Walk in the Woods, in coordination with many Kansas entities (Kansas Foresters, Sunflower RC&amp;D, NRCS, Kansas Fish and Wildlife Dept.), for area 5th graders for over 20 years to educate them about Kansas trees, ecosystems, and wildlife. 

He is survived by his daughter Judith J. (Riggs) Clubine, McPherson, KS; son Robert W. Riggs, Lindsborg, KS; grandchildren Todd (Libby) Clubine, Wellington, KS; Josie (Brant) Weaver, Lindsborg, KS; Zoe Riggs, Junction City, KS; great-granddaughter Briar Clubine; and brother Roy (Paula) Riggs, Kingman, KS.
