Harold Reed Dowell, of rural Cuba, KS, son of Howard and Nora Dowell, was born on Oct 6, 1933 at Concordia, KS and passed away on November 8, 2021 at the Republic County Hospital at the age of 88.
He graduated from Agenda Rural High School in 1951. He was a farmer and stockman his whole life. He married Joyce Y. Bergstrom on December 12, 1954 and to this union three children were born, Donald, Sharon and Pamela.
Harold was a faithful member of the Presbyterian Church of Cuba, Cuba Lions Club, Cuba Booster Club, Cuba Senior Citizens, and was a board member of Rolling Hills Electric for almost 20 years.
Harold and Joyce were awarded the Kansas Non-irrigated Corn Yield Award in the year of 1999, sponsored by Pioneer Seed and the National Corn Growers Association. They enjoyed a trip to Orlando, FL. Also, they received the Republic County Soil Conservation Award for the year of 2002.
Harold can be remembered by many things including his special love for his cattle, and crops, watching his children and grandchildren’s sports and other activities, sports on TV and the many hours spent preparing the baseball field in Cuba for his own children and those of the community. Family time was always cherished with tractor rides, hunting, fishing, spoiling the dogs and cats, open fire pit wiener roasts, feeding the wildlife and, of course, the abundance of sweet corn he grew each year.
He is survived by his wife Joyce of over 66 years; son Donald (Jeanne) Dowell of Olsburg, KS, daughters Sharon Ginn of Reynolds, NE and Pamela Dowell of Belleville, KS, sisters Darlene (Dean) Danielson of Belleville, KS, and Irene (Dale) Hess of Salina, KS, sister-in-law Ledona Dowell, Narka, KS. Also survived by four grandchildren Kelli (Steven) Patterson of Fort Collins, CO, Nick Dowell of Horton, KS, Cheryl (Scott) Campau of Omaha, NE and Kimberly (Chase) Kesl of Hoyt, KS, along with his 10 great-grandchildren – Kamryn, Gabriel, Ellie, Nora, Easton, Lucy, Josephine, Brooks, Faye and Elainie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Darrell and son-in-law Jerry Ginn.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 13, 2021 at the Cuba Presbyterian Church in Cuba KS, with Pastor Phil Goombi and Kathleen Marsicek officiating. Interment will be held at the Kopsa Cemetery, rural Cuba, KS.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home with family greeting friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.
