John Bertil Olson was born on April 17, 1924 in Lindsborg, KS.&nbsp; He passed away on Thursday, September 16, 2021 at his home in Salina.

John was the oldest of seven siblings born to Martin and Anna (Johnson) Olson, both Swedish immigrants.&nbsp; He was raised on the family farm southwest of Assaria, Kansas.&nbsp; John attended Assaria schools and graduated from high school in 1942.&nbsp; Following high school John attended trade school in Bloomington, Illinois with emphasis in drafting and carpentry.

The world was at war when John enlisted in the Navy in 1943.&nbsp; He served as a gunner’s mate on the USS Hailey until his discharge in February 1946.&nbsp; Anyone acquainted with John could tell those duties of a gunner definitely had an effect on John’s hearing!&nbsp; 

After his military service he began a lifelong career in construction with a position traveling the road with a bridge building crew for several years.&nbsp; He then worked for Michaelson Construction in Salina.&nbsp; After approximately five years with Michaelson, he joined Busboom and Rauh in Salina for the next 32 years until his retirement.

John was preceded in death by his parents; five siblings: Carl Olson, Mary Ann Dailey, Betty Burdette, Ruby Oldehoeft and Raymond Olson; four children: Melody Shirley, Barbara Harris, Nolan Olson and Russell Olson.&nbsp; 

He is survived by his wife Mary of the home, nine children: Randall (Hope) Brown of Salina, Tracy Olson (Jon Mills) of Salina, Christopher Olson of Salina, Tiffany (Paul) Hanna of Rainier, Washington, Melody’s husband Michael Shirley, Johnny Olson Jr., Cynthia Hanadel, George Olson, June Eichen and Ingrid Mobely; 20 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

John will be remembered as the gentle and kind soul that he was.&nbsp; He has chosen cremation, and there will be graveside services for family members.&nbsp;

She was the lamp group operator for 29 years at Philips Lighting and also worked customer service at Clark Wellness. On May 18, 1996, Cindy married Steve Dunning in Salina, Kansas. Survivors include her husband Steve; mother Dorothy Kolle, of Salina; three daughters, Dahn Walker (Chris), of Hong Kong, China, Brenda Noer (William), of Leavenworth, Kansas, Bridget Brown (Chris), of Slidell, Louisiana; two sons, Shawn Clemmer (Karin), of Salina, Kansas, Paul Dunning (Sandra), of Hastings, Nebraska. Wanda Neyhart Fox died on September 18, 2021 at Salem Home in Hillsboro, Kansas at the age of 87. 

She was preceded in death by her husband John Fox and a brother, Charles Neyhart. 

She is survived by her brothers Paul Neyhart of Filer, Idaho, E.J. Burke of Crofton, Nebraska, Alvin Burke of Dannebrog, Nebraska, daughter Malinda Stuchlik (Ken) of Marion, Kansas, son Dale Fox (Becky) of Westmoreland, Kansas, seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was born on December 10, 1933 in Nelson, Nebraska. She graduated from Nelson High School in 1952 and afterward attended Stormont-Vail Nursing School in Topeka, Kansas. 

She was united in marriage to John Fox on June 29, 1957 in Beloit, Kansas after meeting him when her car broke down due to engine problems. 

Two years after they were married they moved to Norton, Kansas where she was registered nurse at Norton County Hospital for 35 years, a job she loved especially when she became a labor and delivery nurse. Upon retirement she moved to Lehigh, Kansas to be closer to family and the milder winters.

Wanda especially enjoyed traveling to visit family and while belonging to the Kansas Campers and Hikers Association traveled extensively across the country and was involved in many of their activities. She was an avid bowler, gardener and spent many years as a Girl Scout leader. Later in life she enjoyed crocheting and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Services will be held on Friday, September 24, 2021 at the United Methodist Church in Hillsboro, Kansas at 10:00. Interment will be immediately following the service at the Glen Elder Cemetery in Glen Elder, Kansas.

Ronald Keith Mauck, 71, was born at Newton Medical Center in Newton, Kansas to Hoyt and Irene Mauck on October 10, 1949. After being taught about God and living for Christ from infancy, he was baptized into Christ as a teenager and faithfully loved and served the Lord the rest of his life. 

He graduated from Frederic Remington High School, Whitewater, Kansas, in 1967. He then attended Oklahoma Christian College for four years and earned a BSE degree. 

He taught junior high science classes in Midwest City, Oklahoma from 1971 until 1976, and then he and Ginger moved back to the family farm near Whitewater, Kansas to farm and also work for Ron’s brother, Don, running heavy equipment. Ron was a man of hard work and integrity, always committed to giving his all to what he was doing.

While attending Oklahoma Christian, Ron met Virginia (Ginger) Ann Summers and they were married on August 12, 1972. They were gifted with two children, Tracy Klaassen and Matt Mauck. Time spent with them and the grandchildren were a joy to him. Ron loved spending his spare time riding four wheelers with his grandchildren and friends, hunting, traveling with family and friends, and serving his church.

Ron served as an elder at Northside Church of Christ for 16 years and excelled in welcoming and connecting visitors and members. People were attracted to his joyful nature and genuine care for them. He was so friendly that it seemed like he never met a stranger.

Ron died at home on September 19, after valiantly battling a rare neurological disease for six years. 

One of the things Ron missed most these past few years was getting to be out and about seeing and talking to people. Every card, call, meal and visit meant the world to him, especially meals shared with precious friends and the worship services held at the house. Good Shepherd Hospice of Newton was a tremendous source of help and strength to both Ron and Ginger for several months. The staff is very treasured and loved.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents Hoyt and Irene Mauck and his stepmother Winifred (Claypool) Mauck. 

He is survived by his wife Ginger of rural Benton, his daughter Tracy (Kourt) Klaassen of rural Whitewater, his son Matt (Kim) Mauck of Durant, Oklahoma, and five wonderful and hugely loved grandchildren, Dylan and Drew Klaassen and Katelyn, Cameron, and Kennedy Mauck. He is also survived by his two brothers, Don (Archie) Mauck of rural Whitewater and Paul (Diane) Mauck of Mead, Oklahoma, several cousins, and many nephews and nieces.

There will be a celebration of life memorial service at Northside Church of Christ, 4545 N. Meridian, Wichita, Kansas at 1:00 p.m. on September 21, 2021.

After being taught about God and living for Christ from infancy, he was baptized into Christ as a teenager and faithfully loved and served the Lord the rest of his life. He graduated from Frederic Remington High School, Whitewater, Kansas, in 1967. He then attended Oklahoma Christian College for four years and earned a BSE degree. He taught junior high science classes in Midwest City, Oklahoma from 1971 until 1976, and then he and Ginger moved back to the family farm near Whitewater, Kansas to farm and also work for Ron’s brother, Don, running heavy equipment. Ron was a man of hard work and integrity, always committed to giving his all to what he was doing.While attending Oklahoma Christian, Ron met Virginia (Ginger) Ann Summers and they were married on August 12, 1972. They were gifted with two children, Tracy Klaassen and Matt Mauck. Time spent with them and the grandchildren were a joy to him. Ron loved spending his spare time riding four wheelers with his grandchildren and friends, hunting, traveling with family and friends, and serving his church.Ron served as an elder at Northside Church of Christ for 16 years and excelled in welcoming and connecting visitors and members. People were attracted to his joyful nature and genuine care for them. He was so friendly that it seemed like he never met a stranger.Ron died at home on September 19, after valiantly battling a rare neurological disease for six years. One of the things Ron missed most these past few years was getting to be out and about seeing and talking to people. Every card, call, meal and visit meant the world to him, especially meals shared with precious friends and the worship services held at the house. Good Shepherd Hospice of Newton was a tremendous source of help and strength to both Ron and Ginger for several months. The staff is very treasured and loved.Ron was preceded in death by his parents Hoyt and Irene Mauck and his stepmother Winifred (Claypool) Mauck. He is survived by his wife Ginger of rural Benton, his daughter Tracy (Kourt) Klaassen of rural Whitewater, his son Matt (Kim) Mauck of Durant, Oklahoma, and five wonderful and hugely loved grandchildren, Dylan and Drew Klaassen and Katelyn, Cameron, and Kennedy Mauck. On Friday September 17, 2021, Edmond Lee Spencer entered Heaven’s Gate. He was born September 12, 1940, and was the son of Willis and Leoma Spencer. 

He was united in marriage 59 years ago to Carolyn Spencer on May 24, 1962.

Edmond was a long time over the road truck driver with a perfect over 1 million miles incident free driving record. To fellow truckers he was known by his radio CB handle “Rusty Nail.” 

After trucking, Edmond turned his focus to spending time with his loving wife and supporting his grandchildren in their activities. He could be seen at gymnastic meets, softball games, wrestling meets, football, track, basketball, and school concerts and plays cheering for those that he loved dearly. 

Edmond has three children Matt Spencer, Edmond (Eddie) Jr, and Becky Fetrow. He was a dad to his “outlaws” Darla Spencer and Kelley Spencer and son-in-law Bruce Fetrow. His grandchildren and great grandchildren loved him without exception: Dallas Wells, Kasey Orlik, Hunter Spencer, Kaylyn Spencer, Dakota Spencer, Shyla Harris, Shyann Harris, Lilliana Salamone-Harris, and Barrett Orlik. 

Edmond was met in heaven by his loving wife of 59 years, his parents, and a sister.

Edmond could be seen daily at Town &amp; Country Café, of which he was part owner, greeting locals, regulars, and having trucker talk with OTR truckers who visited frequently to catch up with him. He served as mayor of Florence and served on numerous boards in town. Edmond loved having family get-togethers and was first to serve himself at family meals. He gave love and received love from everyone who knew him and will be greatly missed and always loved.

Edmond’s family will gather with friends on Friday, September 24, 10 a.m. at the Christian Church of Florence, of which he served as an elder, for his funeral service led by Pastor Mitchel Diemer. He will be laid to rest in Hillcrest Cemetery, Florence, following the service.

Douglas “Nate” Garrett, age 64, passed away on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at his home in rural Clyde, KS.&nbsp; He was born on January 22, 1957 in Wichita, KS to John Fox and Patricia Rightmire. &nbsp;He was later adopted by Calvin and Sally Garrett.

He graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School in Portland, OR.&nbsp; He served in the U.S. Navy on a nuclear submarine during the Korean War.&nbsp; He got his CDL in California was a long distance hauler for Central Refrigeration Systems.&nbsp; 

He married Joy M. Novak on July 3, 2000, in Illinois.&nbsp; 

Nate’s passion was being an Abe Lincoln impersonator for various re-enactments, shows and a myriad of other engagements.

He is survived by his wife Joy, Clyde; sister Viola; three brothers, Dan, Scott and John and a host of other family and friends.

It was Nate’s wishes to be cremated and the family will hold a memorial service at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at a later date.&nbsp;

Margaret Ann (May) Ketterer was born December 24, 1932 on the family farm in Jewell County, Kansas, the daughter of Floyd May and Mary Sweet May. She died at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas on September 19, 2021 at the age of 88 years.&nbsp;

Margaret grew up on the farm, attended rural schools, and graduated from Montrose High School in 1950. She married Alfred Shaffer on October 15, 1954. He died in February, 1988. To this union one daughter was born, Alfreda Marie.&nbsp;

She married Daniel “Pat” Ketterer on February 9, 1990. He survives of the home. 

Margaret’s life revolved around family and trucking. She was a short-order cook at Chris’ Truck Stop, owned Shaffer Trucking with Alfred, and went over-the-road trucking with Daniel until she was forced to retire due to health issues.&nbsp;

Margaret is also survived by her daughter Alfreda (Burl) Maley; grandchildren Matt (Anita) Collins, Jesica Collins, and Jenifer Doyle; sisters Alice Rice, and Mary Sue (Paul Dean) Elsey; stepchildren Marietta Fiarkoski, Jerry (Judy) Shaffer, Patty (Bill) Bristol, Brian (Katie) Ketterer, and Kathy (Joey) Prochniewski; and a host of extended family and friends.&nbsp;

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; husband Alfred; and brothers Tom May, John May, and Harold May.&nbsp; 

She chose cremation and per her request there will be no services.&nbsp;

Robert A. "Bob" Redger passed away on August 26, 2021, at KU Med Center at the age of 74.&nbsp; He was born July 3, 1947, the son of Albert A. and Grace (Kumberg) Redger.&nbsp; He attended Ashland Kansas schools graduating in 1965.&nbsp; He attended Southwestern College Winfield before enlisting in the U.S. Army and serving in Vietnam from 1966-1968 obtaining the rank of SP5 (T). &nbsp; In 1970, he married Carol Jean Fuller and they adopted a daughter, Crystal. They later divorced. Robert worked in the oil fields as a noxious weed director and a feed store manager before becoming the manager of the Golden Belt Co-op in Ellis, in 1991, retired in 2016. Robert was involved in his community, serving on several boards.&nbsp; He was a member of the Ellis City Council, the Chrysler House, and the Chamber of Commerce.&nbsp; He was a Quartermaster for the local VFW Post and was the treasurer for the Ellis United Methodist Church. Robert was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his daughter Crystal, his special friend Niki Bartlett, sisters Louise Lagerman (Mel) of Salina, KS; Carol Jackson (Mike) of Vega, TX; Diana Redger of Ashland, KS; brother David Redger (Linda) of Ashland, KS; Niki’s daughters Jenny, Amy, Lesley, and Betsy; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Barbara June Butcher, 85, died September 15, 2021 at Swedish Hospital, Littleton, Colorado. She was born December 16, 1935 in Salina, Kansas the daughter of Harold and Elva (Pifier) Brightbill.

 Barbara was a Telephone Operator for Mountain Bell for over 40 years.

Barbara is preceded in death by her husband, Don G. Butcher, July 1, 2014.

She is survived by her 3 sons: Steve (Eva) Butcher, Mike (Paulette) Butcher and Greg (Elaine) Butcher; five grandchildren, Michael, Lisa, Jojo, Matt and Ray; and four great grandchildren, Sebastian, Katlyn, Josie, Braxtin.

She loved spending her days doing crossword puzzles, playing computer games, and going to the casino, every chance she got, with her best friend, Vanessa Vallee. Survivors include: two daughters Terri (Danny) Newhouse of McPherson and Tawana (Emilio, Jr.) Garcia of Georgetown, Texas; five wonderful grandsons (whom she referred to as her little chickens 1-5) (#I) Jerrod (Sarah) Newhouse of Galva, (#II) Jeremy (Emily) Newhouse of Walton, (#IV) Justin Newhouse of Wichita, (#III) Simon (Glenys) Garcia of Terrell, TX and (#V) Nick Garcia of Orlando, Florida. He worked as a sales person and manager for Pepsi Cola Bottling Company, Coca-Cola Bottling Company, Old Home Bread and then Resource Management.&nbsp; He married Valerie L. Marsh on Nov. 17, 1973 in Delphos, KS.

He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed spending time with his family and dogs.&nbsp; Steve and Val were dedicated volunteers for Relay for Life in both Ada and Concordia.&nbsp;

SALINA - Marvin H. Ebeling, 66, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2021 at Salina Regional Health Center. Marvin was born to Edwin and Josephine (Smetana) Ebeling in Marysville, KS on Nov. 11, 1954.&nbsp; He graduated from Hanover High School and went Brown Mackie College in Salina.&nbsp;

Marvin worked at UMB Bank for many years as a controller.&nbsp; He then went to work at Exide as a materials handler and retired in 2016.&nbsp;

 He was a very social person always passing out gifts such as chocolates, his famous chili and BBQ sauce, tacos, pizza, orchid flowers, and was a hot sauce fanatic. &nbsp;Marvin went out of his way to chauffeur friends around and loved to travel the gravel roads looking for old cemeteries.&nbsp; Once, spontaneously, Marvin took a road trip to Maine and surprised his sister.&nbsp; Another time he and a friend went out of their way to find a windmill blade and deliver it to his sister in Marysville.&nbsp;&nbsp; Marvin never bought anything for himself, but always for others. &nbsp;He had a very close group of true friends he really admired.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Marvin is survived by his sisters Barb Friedrichs (Clair “Fred”) of Marysville, Virginia Lemos of Bangor, ME; brother David Ebeling (Eldean) of Hanover; nieces and nephews Allen, Brian (Jill), Clint (Laura) Friedrichs, and Kenneth and Jason Lemos, Brenda Pfrang (Matt), Jeff Ebeling; aunts Helen Ray of Topeka, Clara Ebeling of Hanover and numerous great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.&nbsp;

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday Sept. 20, 2021.&nbsp; A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday Sept. 21 all at Ryan Mortuary.&nbsp; Inurnment will follow at Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina.

Marvin was born to Edwin and Josephine (Smetana) Ebeling in Marysville, KS on Nov. 11, 1954.&nbsp; He graduated from Hanover High School and went Brown Mackie College in Salina.&nbsp;Marvin worked at UMB Bank for many years as a controller.&nbsp; He then went to work at Exide as a materials handler and retired in 2016.&nbsp; He was a very social person always passing out gifts such as chocolates, his famous chili and BBQ sauce, tacos, pizza, orchid flowers, and was a hot sauce fanatic. &nbsp;Marvin went out of his way to chauffeur friends around and loved to travel the gravel roads looking for old cemeteries.&nbsp; Once, spontaneously, Marvin took a road trip to Maine and surprised his sister.&nbsp; Another time he and a friend went out of their way to find a windmill blade and deliver it to his sister in Marysville.&nbsp;&nbsp; Marvin never bought anything for himself, but always for others. &nbsp;He had a very close group of true friends he really admired.&nbsp; &nbsp;Marvin is survived by his sisters Barb Friedrichs (Clair “Fred”) of Marysville, Virginia Lemos of Bangor, ME; brother David Ebeling (Eldean) of Hanover; nieces and nephews Allen, Brian (Jill), Clint (Laura) Friedrichs, and Kenneth and Jason Lemos, Brenda Pfrang (Matt), Jeff Ebeling; aunts Helen Ray of Topeka, Clara Ebeling of Hanover and numerous great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.&nbsp;Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday Sept. 20, 2021.&nbsp; A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday Sept. 21 all at Ryan Mortuary.&nbsp; Inurnment will follow at Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina.Memorials will be designated at a later date.&nbsp;To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Marvin H. He passed away peacefully at Chapman Valley Manor in Chapman, Kansas after a brief illness. Visitation will be held Tuesday, Sept 21 at 6 p m&nbsp; in the St. Phillips Catholic Church in Hope, KS with a rosary to start at 7:30 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held Wednesday Sept 22, also at St. Phillips, at 10 a.m. Interment will be at the St. Phillips Cemetery Catholic Cemetery with a luncheon to follow the burial at the parish hall. Clarence was born on the family farm near Hope, Kansas, January 6, 1931, to father Vernon Peter Stroda and mother Gladys (Smith) Stroda. The fifth of six children, Clarence worked the family farm and developed a life-long passion for farming and ranching. He graduated from Hope High School in 1948.

He met the love of his life at a dance in Pilsen, Kansas and married Joan M. Jirak in 1950. The couple spent their entire married life on a farm outside Hope, Kansas where they raised five children, went dancing frequently, and enjoyed fishing across the U.S. and up into Canada. 

A man who believed in civic responsibility, Clarence served on the school boards of Navarre Grade School and Dickinson County Community High School in Chapman. He sat on the board of directors for the Navarre Farmers Union Cooperative Association, served on the parish council for St. Phillips Catholic Church and was a longtime member of the Navarre Lions Club. Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Ethel and Dorothy who died in infancy, his brothers Max James Stroda and Boyd Vernon Stroda, his “pretty lady” wife, Joan (Jirak) Stroda, beloved grandson Brandon Stroda and son-in-law David MacDonald.

Winifred Jane Slaughter was born May 14, 1957 to Don and Dorothy Slaughter in Washington, KS and departed this life September 14, 2021 at Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings, NE. She attended Cloud County Community College in Concordia, KS after which she started working at MC Industries in Belleville, KS. She later went to work for the company in Geneva, NE where she became plant manager. Winnie dealt with M.S. for many years and had to retire early. Growing up, Winnie attended Central Christian Church in Belleville, KS and after moving to Geneva she became a member of the Geneva Evangelical Free Church where she was very involved with the youth and Vacation Bible School. Winnie was preceded in death by her brother- in - law Don Johannes of Little Rock, Arkansas. She was born on October 22, 1928, in Kaiserslautern, Germany, the daughter of Heinrich and Lydia (Henn) Geiger. Liselotte was united in marriage to Arnold L. Serviss on July 12, 1974, in Moundridge, KS. He preceded her in death on May 24, 2012. Liselotte was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and American Legion Post #24 Auxiliary. She volunteered at the McPherson Opera House Apt. 6, Trash to Treasure, and at McPherson elementary schools as a reading assistant. Survivors include: daughters Arnell Whited and husband Gary of Hutchinson, KS; Bettina Luttig and husband, Monte, of McPherson, KS; and Lori Hardin of Newton, KS; six grandchildren, Stephanie King (John), Melanie Schulz (Chris), Leslie Shaw (Kerry), Steven Medina (Sakura), Devin Medina, and Helene Medina; two step-grandchildren, Mercedes Lecklider and Tanner Luttig; seven great-grandchildren; and many extended family and friends. Betty Ann (Downs) Chapman, 84, passed away at Mitchell County Hospital, Beloit on September 15, 2021. Betty Ann was born to James Louis Downs and Mary Catherine (Burns) Downs in Bardstown, KY.&nbsp; Betty's mother passed away in 1948, when Betty was just 10 years old.&nbsp; Louis married Vivian Downs who became a kind and tenderhearted mother to Betty. Ronnie Joseph was later born to this union.&nbsp; 

Betty attended college at Nelson County Community College in Bardstown earning her teaching degree.

Betty met Fred Leroy Chapman during his training for the United States Army while stationed at Ft. Knox, Kentucky.&nbsp; They were married in Bardstown on July 18, 1959 and made their home on the family farm in Beloit.&nbsp; Fred and Betty had three daughters, Debbie, Catherine and Susan, and thus the adventures began!&nbsp; There was lots of RV travel, camping, boating, birthday parties, harvests and festivals, reunions, and following their daughters' many interests.&nbsp; 

Betty worked for many local companies throughout Beloit including&nbsp; municipal airport, the Beloit Daily Call, Beloit Elementary School, and as she is best remembered, one of the best cooks at Mitchell Co. Hospital.&nbsp; The job she loved the most was being a loving wife and nurturing mother.

After retirement, Betty and Fred travelled by RV to many places including Michigan, Pennsylvania, Canada, the Dakotas, Colorado, New York, Kentucky and Tennessee.&nbsp; They lived many winters in Arizona, then throughout the Rio Grande Valley in Texas, finally settling in their beloved home at Wagon City in Mission, Texas.&nbsp; There they participated in talent shows, jams, entertainment, dancing, potluck dinners (Mom's famous meatloaf was always a hit), swimming, shuffleboard, golf cart parades and her favorite, bingo!

Mom will always be remembered for her kind and patient spirit, her devotion to Fred and her pure love for her children and grandchildren.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Betty Ann was born to James Louis Downs and Mary Catherine (Burns) Downs in Bardstown, KY.&nbsp; Betty's mother passed away in 1948, when Betty was just 10 years old.&nbsp; Louis married Vivian Downs who became a kind and tenderhearted mother to Betty. Ronnie Joseph was later born to this union.&nbsp; Betty attended college at Nelson County Community College in Bardstown earning her teaching degree.Betty met Fred Leroy Chapman during his training for the United States Army while stationed at Ft. Cremation has taken place. Friends may sign the register book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, September 20 at the funeral home.
