Obituary for Beverly M. Coleman | Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home

July 16, 1929 ~ January 31, 2022 (age 92)

Beverly Marie Coleman, the daughter of Jay Neal and Mabel Marie (Schultz) Neal, was born July 16, 1929 in Marshall County, Kansas and passed away on January 31, 2022 at the Belleville Health Care Center, Belleville, Kansas at the age of 92 years, 6 months, and 15 days.

Beverly’s mother, Mabel, passed away in 1933 when Beverly was 4 ½ years old.  She was raised by her grandparents Sophia and Charles Schultz in rural Marshall County, KS.   She attended Blanchville Country Grade School and graduated when she was 12.   She then went to Marysville High School and graduated at the age of 16. 

After baccalaureate, she went to her first job in Lincoln, NE at Standard Reliance Insurance Company (started on Monday); On Tuesday, Bev moved back to Marysville.   In the fall of 1945, she went to work at Southwestern Bell Telephone in Marysville, KS.   She worked there until she got married in September of 1948.   She really enjoyed the people and working there and later transferred to Washington Southwestern Bell.   

Beverly met Doug Coleman after a football game at the Parkmore Café (a high school hang out) in Marysville.   They were united in marriage on September 25, 1948 at the Washington Christian Church.   They made their home in Washington, Kansas, moving to Belleville, KS in 2010.

Beverly was a member of the Washington Christian Church, Sunday school teacher and church treasurer.    She also helped with the Vacation Bible School for many years.    She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary, the Washington County Museum, and the CWF at Belleville Central Christian Church.

Beverly enjoyed cooking and collecting antiques.   She enjoyed flowers, gardening, baking, and cooking.   She owned an antique shop in Washington for three years.   When the antique shop closed she worked part-time at the George & Martha Antique Mall in Washington.   She also worked at the worked at the Washington County Hospital when her children were in school.   She also worked part-time at Farm Bureau Insurance.   She also enjoyed listening to music and bands and watching Kansas State games.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Allen Lee (Velma) Neal, James A. Neal, and Leslie Gene Neal; sister Audrey Naomi (Walter) Ronkar, and daughter-in-law Tami Coleman.    

Beverly is survived by her husband Doug Coleman of Belleville, KS;  children  Douglas D. (Lori) Coleman II of Manhattan, KS,  Charles M. Coleman of Wakefield, KS,  Jennifer A. (Tom) Jungck of Hastings, NE, and Lisa M. (Jeff) Noland of Belleville, KS;  10 grandchildren:  Scott Coleman, Hayley Bieker, Shannon Kimbrough, Melody Rich, Jed Coleman, Orrin Coleman, Erica Noland, Jessica Rohan, Jamie Thomas, and Jackie Bryce; 19 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law  Julie Neal and Barbara Neal; other relatives, and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 7, 2022 at the Central Christian Church, Belleville, KS with Pastor Jacob Rice officiating.

Graveside services and interment will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, Feb. 7, 2022 at the Washington City Cemetery, Washington, Kansas with Pastor Jim Stark, officiating.

Friends may call at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Sunday where the family will greet friends from 2p.m. until 3 p.m. on Sunday.

Memorials are suggested to the Central Christian Church or the Washington Christian Church.
