Mary Priscilla Brummer was born on November 6, 1951 in Red Cloud, Nebraska. She died Friday, April 29, 2022 at the Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita, after a long battle with multiple health issues at the age of 70.

She grew up in Nebraska and spent most of her years living in the Downs/Cawker City area. Mary was a dedicated, hard worker all her life and she was tough. She was a loyal employee holding numerous jobs, sometimes multiple jobs at the same time. She always took great pride in her work and provided for her family. Her last job was running the Cawker City Senior Center. She loved that job and felt a responsibility to help people.

Mary spent many years employed as a welder at Sunflower Manufacturing, a hard job that most men cannot do. She did it well, displaying that toughness. For the last few years Mary endured an unfair amount of health issues. But you never knew how much pain she was in because she rarely, even up to the end, complained. She was tough.

Mary was first married to Roger Angell (who previously had two children of his own- Charles and Lisa) and had two children: Jim Angell and Jennifer Angell. That marriage ended and Mary then met the love of her life: Melvin “Dennis” Brummer. They were married adding two of Dennis’ children to the family – Cindy Mick and Dennis Lee Brummer.

Mary and Dennis were true soulmates, and they were literally inseparable. They loved dancing, traveling, camping, fishing and rooting on the Jayhawks. Mary lost Dennis in 2015. The family is happy Mary got to see her beloved Jayhawks win a championship before she died. And the family is even happier to know that she and Dennis are united again, no doubt swing dancing to the Jimmy Dee Band.

Mary most of all loved her family. And she was dedicated to it. She had many “step” children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. However, the word “step” never entered her vocabulary. She loved everyone the same.

Mary is survived by her siblings, her children, 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 4 at the Sts. Peter &amp; Paul Catholic Church in Cawker City. A rosary service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. There will be no visitation and the casket will remain closed. 

Memorials may be given to the Cawker City Senior Center.

He married the love of his life on June 11, 2016 and they enjoyed their lives together until his departure. 

Sam was a loving and devoted father, son, brother, uncle, and friend. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, watching movies, and playing video games. Sam was an avid animal lover, with a vast interest in various different species. He was a conversationalist and an easy-going person. Sam was preceded in death by his parents Daniel Corral and Jamie Lynn Romjue-Alcorn; grandmother Doni Romjue; and uncle Jesse Corral.

Donald E. Coup of Abilene, KS passed away on April 26, 2022 at the age of 81. Don was born on January 12th, 1941 in Manchester, KS to Frank and Ruth Coup (Oard).

As the son of a farmer in rural Dickinson County, Don grew up appreciating so much, while having so little. His humble upbringing instilled gratitude, hard work, and dedication to family that was recognized by all who knew him and a lot more that did not. In high school Don played many sports sparking his lifelong appreciation for fitness. He graduated from Dickinson County Community High School in 1959 then attended Emporia State University.

In 1963 he enlisted in the Navy and served on the USS Saratoga (CVA-60) as Aviation Storekeeper touring throughout the Mediterranean. In 1975 after his military service, he settled in as a postal carrier that would span nearly three decades. Don walked thirteen miles a day for over 27 years 9 months 21 days, was bitten by dogs four times, out ran many more dogs, ate too many Christmas pound cakes and all within the extremely adverse rain, blistery cold and scorching hot weather of Kansas. Don married Sharon K. Williams (Tunget) on November 8th, 1980 in Talmage, KS and spent their married life in Abilene, KS. Don was blessed with a large and loving family. Don retired and was widowed in 2003, spending his time with family, woodworking, traveling, and being an avid bicycle rider. Don was known for his friendly and caring nature along with his everlasting smile. Survivors include one daughter, Shelly Ihnken of Mt Pleasant, TX; one son, Jon Williams of Abilene; his brother, Larry of Talmage; twelve grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and many other relatives. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon; father, Frank; and mother, Ruth. Don’s celebration of life will be held 12 o’clock (noon), June 11th, 2022 at his home of 1002 N Walnut, Abilene, KS to allow family and friends to travel and book tickets.

Lawrence W. Higgins

Marvin&nbsp;Ray Nimz&nbsp;was born on October 22, 1929, in Ransom, Kansas, the son of Wilhelm&nbsp;and Celia (Rufenacht) Nimz. He passed away&nbsp;Monday, May 2,&nbsp;2022,&nbsp;at Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital.&nbsp;He was 92 years old.

Marvin grew up in&nbsp;Trego County, attended local schools and graduated from Trego Community High School with&nbsp;the class of 1947.&nbsp;On July 17, 1952, Marvin was united in marriage to Frances (Richmeier) Nimz.

Marvin was a farmer&nbsp;and&nbsp;enjoyed playing cards, woodworking, jigsaw puzzles and gardening.

Edward “Dale” Anderson, 91, died peacefully on Sunday, May 1, 2022 at Presbyterian Manor in Salina, Kansas. He was born in the New Gottland community of McPherson, Kansas to Ed and Pearl Anderson on January 28, 1931. 

Dale attended McPherson High School, graduating in 1949. In 1951, he married Flora Farnsworth; they were married 62 years before her passing in 2013.

Dale served in the United States Air Force in San Antonio, Texas from 1951-1955. From there, he attended the University of Wisconsin and then returned to McPherson where he started his banking career at Citizens State Bank. In 1970, the family moved to Salina where Dale continued his banking career with First National Bank. After many years in banking, he began a new career with Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. where he stayed until he retired. In 1975, Dale moved the family to his beloved Rainbow Hill Ranch which gave him a place to follow his passions of raising and racing quarter horses. Many of Dale’s horses were successful and won multiple events around the country. Dale is survived by his two daughters, Karen Anderson Collins and Dalene Anderson-Westhues; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and two brothers, Larry Anderson and Royce Anderson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Flora; and brothers, Dennis Anderson and Loren Anderson. A private family service will be held at a later date. Mary Jane Carlton Smith, age 96, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on&nbsp;April 28, 2022, at the Wallace County Care Center in Sharon Springs, KS.

Mary was born on Dece<a></a>mber 2, 1925, in Beloit, KS to Rev. A.L. and Laura (Lewis) Carlton. She was the youngest of nine children. Her father was a Methodist minister which took the family to Beloit, Norton and Goodland before settling in Jennings, KS. Mary graduated from Jennings Community High School in 1943. She attended college at Nebraska Wesleyan in Lincoln, NE from 1943-1946. During these years, she performed in many plays and traveled with a theater&nbsp;troupe.&nbsp;Mary married Darwin L. Smith on June 9, 1946 in Jennings, KS.

Since 1950, Darwin and Mary made their home in Sharon Springs, KS. She was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. In 1963 she added a career to her life when she went to work for the Sharon Springs school system. She worked&nbsp;in the&nbsp;office and then became the board clerk. She worked at the school until her retirement in 1991.&nbsp;

Mary’s memberships included the Sharon Springs United Methodist Church, the Methodist Women, the Sharon Springs Music Club, and the Wallace County Senior Center. She also served as the Sunday School Superintendent for many years, sang in the church choir, directed a children’s choir,&nbsp;and sang for many funerals and weddings.&nbsp;Mary and Darwin participated in several Lay Witness Missions through the church. Talking to others about her faith and&nbsp;her&nbsp;walk with Jesus was one of her favorite things to do.

Mary and Darwin were blessed with six children; Lois, Ellen, Sarah, Lora, Emily, and Lewis. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, Granny, and of course the best title she had, Great Granny. She took pride in her family making a home for them. She and Darwin always welcomed their friends and their children’s friends into their home.&nbsp;

She&nbsp;is preceded in death by her&nbsp;loving&nbsp;husband, Darwin,&nbsp;on October 14, 2004, her son-in-law Alan Roop,&nbsp;and grandson Garth Roop.&nbsp;She was also preceded in death by her parents;&nbsp;four brothers,&nbsp;Arlyn, Rev. Lawrence, Glen, and James Carlton; four sisters,&nbsp;Zelfa&nbsp;Neill,&nbsp;Harriett Casey, Naomi Carter, and Rachel Carter.&nbsp;

Mary is survived by Lois Pearce and her husband Bryan of Wallace, Ellen Roop of Lakewood CO, Sarah Alt and her husband Doug of Salina, Lora Rochholz and her husband David of Minot, North Dakota, Emily Bolen and her husband Bruce of Sharon Springs, and Lewis&nbsp;Smith and his wife Susan of Phillipsburg, 15 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren,&nbsp;and many nieces, nephews, and friends.&nbsp;

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2022, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM MT at Koons-Russell Funeral Home in Sharon Springs.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 6, 2022, at 10:00 AM MT at the Sharon Springs United Methodist Church with Pastor Galen Crippen and Reverend Paul McNall officiating. &nbsp;Burial will follow in the Sharon Springs Cemetery.

The family has designated memorials in Mary’s memory to The Sharon Springs United Methodist Church for handicap accessible doors or the Wallace County Community Care Center and may be left at the services or mailed to Koons-Russell Funeral Home, 211 N. Main Ave., Goodland, KS 67735.

Elna Florence Haubold, age 101, passed away April 28, 2022. She was born February 6, 1921 to Conrad Carl and Emma S (Swanson) Blomberg, in Ellsworth County, Kansas. That same year she moved with her family to a farm near Marquette, KS. 

After graduating from Falun High School she was employed in McPherson, KS for several years. 

In 1948 she moved to Denver, CO where she married Dennie Donaldson, he passed away 8 years later. In 1957, Elna married Frank Haubold. Elna worked as a partner in her husband’s trucking business in the Denver area for 35 years. Due to Frank’s health they moved to Marquette in August of 1995. Frank passed away on January 20, 1996.

Elna was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Dennie Donaldson and Frank Haubold, brother Leslie Blomberg, sisters Mildred Nelson, Ethel Boggs, Ilene Andrew, Vernice Horn, and Baby Ruby, as well as nieces Debra Sue Beck and Verna James. 

Survivors include nephews Laurence (Cheryl) Andrews, of Banks, AL, LeRoy (Julie) Andrews of Tonganoxie, KS, Lyle (Amy) Andrews of Kansas City, KS, Lavern (Cari) Andrew of Holton, KS, Bradley Horn of Easton, PA, nieces Sheryl Black of Brookville, KS, Shirley (Gary) Donley of Kanopolis, KS, and special friends of the Haubold family Steve (Lucille) Peterson of Thorton, CO.

Leona M. Payeur, age 94, entered into rest, Thursday, April 28, 2022 at the family farmstead in Clyde, Kansas.&nbsp; She was born February 22, 1928 in Clyde, Kansas to Millard R. and Lottie L. (Parker) Anderson.

Leona graduated from Clyde High School in 1946.&nbsp; She attended Kansas State University and received her teacher’s certificate.

On September 1, 1948 she married Dick Payeur in Clyde, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp; To this union three children were born, Robert, Linda and Stan.

Leona taught county school at Boggs Country School and Joines Country School.&nbsp; She later worked as the secretary at Topeka High School for 16 years until her retirement when she and Dick returned to Clyde.&nbsp; She was a former member of the Eastern Star, Clyde.

Leona is survived by her two sons, Robert Payeur (Debi), Ottawa, KS; Stan Payeur (Gena), Clyde, KS; a daughter, Linda Spade, Clyde, KS; nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick Payeur; her parents and a brother, Keith Anderson.

It was Leona’s wishes to be cremated and a memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 14, 2022 at the Brantford Covenant Church with Pastor Michael Ostermann officiating. Cremains to be buried in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Clyde next to her husband Dick privately by the family.

Eleanor Tangeman McMindes, 91, died Tuesday April 19, 2022 at The Cedars in McPherson, Kansas. She was born February 15, 1931 on her family farm in Adams, Nebraska to Gerd and Tena Aden. She married Jack Tangeman on June 1, 1952 in Wymore, Nebraska. He preceded her in death on April 30, 1982. She married Delos “Jim” McMindes on July 5, 2008 in Hays, Kansas. Eleanor dreamed of becoming a teacher since she was a child growing up in Nebraska. She started her career in education in a one-room school teaching grades K-8 in Gage County, Nebraska. She earned a B.S., M.S., and Ed.S degree from Fort Hays State University. She spent 38 years as an elementary and Title I reading teacher in Hays and Russell and was a part-time instructor at Fort Hays State University. She held leadership positions in the Kansas National Education Association, Kansas Reading Association, Phi Kappa Phi, Delta Kappa Gamma Society, Hays Christian Women's Club and Kansas Blue Cross Blue Shield Advisory Board and many more. Her passion for education was evident in the various awards she received throughout her career. In 2000, she was awarded the Fort Hays State University - Cunningham Award from Phi Delta Kappa. This award was a peer-based award for outstanding contribution to education. She was inducted into the Kansas Teacher’s Hall of Fame in 2007. Her truly proudest moments were when former students took the time to reach out and tell her what a difference she made in their lives. She loved to travel and she visited every state in the U.S. and every continent except Antarctica with her dear friend Eloise Miller. She loved to bring back educational materials from various trips to share with her classroom students. One of her favorite trips was an educational exchange program with a university in China. After she retired from teaching, Eleanor never slowed down long enough to let any grass grow under her feet. She joined her local chapter of AARP. She organized senior events and lobbied in Topeka for causes impacting Kansas seniors. She enjoyed participating in AARP events with her husband Jim. In 2017, Jim and Eleanor were awarded the AARP Ann Garvin Award for Excellence in Community Service. Cheryl Ann Zenger was born on December 9, 1948, in Concordia, to Virgle and Marguerite (Menke) Hanshaw. Cheryl grew up near Haddam, attending Haddam Public Schools, and graduating from Haddam High School, class of 1966.

Following high school, she was united in marriage to Willard H. Zenger on January 14, 1968, in Haddam. To this union of 50 years, three children were born, Tammy, Scott, and Buffy.

Cheryl was a farm wife and homemaker. Willard and Cheryl owned and operated the Haddam Grocery Store for many years. Later in life, she worked as the Haddam city clerk. She enjoyed going to garage sales, along with sewing and crocheting, and sitting down with a good book.

Cheryl passed away on April 26th, 2022, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center in Shawnee, Kansas, at the age of 73 years, 4 months and 17 days.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Willard in 2018, and brother Norman.

She is survived by her children, daughter Tammy Dankenbring of Lenexa, son Scott Zenger and his wife Stacy of Shawnee, and daughter Buffy Hemming and her husband Charles of Belle Chase, Louisiana. Cheryl is also survived by her grandchildren Carli Dankenbring, Terry Dankenbring (Jordan), Brenden Dankenbring, Peyton Zenger, Brice Zenger, Cody Allen, Rylie Hemming and Daxton Hemming. She is also survived by her brother Dennis, many cousins, and a community of friends.

Funeral services will be Friday, April 29th, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home in Belleville, with Pastor David Manyara officiating. The family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Haddam City Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 28th, from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Carol Dean Novak, the daughter of Edwin Scott Halferty and Zella May (Haldeman) Halferty, was born November 2, 1940 in Denver, Colorado and passed away on April 21, 2022 at her home in Belleville, Kansas at the age of 81 years, 5 months, and 9 days.

Carol grew up outside Haddam, Kansas on a small farm and graduated from Haddam High School in the class of 1958.&nbsp;

In 1961, she was united in marriage to Edward B. Novak and to this union were born&nbsp; John, Steven, Lana and Carrie. The&nbsp;couple&nbsp;made their home on a&nbsp;farm near Belleville, Kansas&nbsp;where Carol&nbsp;lived for over 50 years. She recently moved from the farm house to Belleville related to her battle with pancreatic cancer.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; 

Carol was a homemaker and dietary aid at the Belleville Health Care Center for&nbsp;more than 20 years.

Carol was a member of the First United Methodist Church, recently being baptized.

She enjoyed playing cards and eating lunch at the Golden Bell Haven, playing cards with family and friends along with gardening, plants and sewing. Carol enjoyed her coffee and ice cream with friends at the Dairy Queen, homemade ice cream, and watching television. In her early years, she and her husband, Edward, enjoyed polka dancing in Cuba and Munden.

She was preceded in death by her husband Edward, on&nbsp;July 22, 2002; parents, Edwin and Zella Halferty;&nbsp;and one sister, Karon Halferty.

Carol is survived by four children, Carrie S. Novak of Independence, MO,&nbsp; John E. (Michelle) Novak of Dover-Foxcroft, ME, Steven A. Novak of Belleville, Kansas, and Lana J. Novak of Belleville, KS;&nbsp;&nbsp;five grandchildren:&nbsp;&nbsp;Kristin Novak, Chase Novak, Astraea Novak, Raychel Poisson, and Riley Poisson;&nbsp;&nbsp;two sisters, Marilyn Mendenhall of Concordia, KS and Mary Adkins of Fairbury, NE; one brother, Edwin (Carolyn) Halferty of Clyde, KS; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 29, 2022 at the First United Methodist Church, Belleville, Kansas with Reverend Sang Hak Lee officiating.

Interment will be at the Tabor Cemetery, rural Munden, Kansas.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 28th&nbsp;at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, Kansas where the family will greet friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday.&nbsp;The funeral services will be livestreamed via the First United Methodist Church, Belleville, Kansas Facebook page.&nbsp;

Florence Barbara Knittig, 79, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 11:40 p.m., Wednesday, April 27th, 2022 at McPherson Hospital. Barbara was born in St. Louis, Missouri on October 29, 1942, a daughter of Harriett G. (Vertrees) and Lawrence Charles Kraft. Barbara attended the St. Louis elementary schools and graduated from St. Cecilia High School, St. Louis, Missouri. Later in life when she was in Kansas she attended nursing school where she received her LPN certificate. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, McPherson. Barbara was a homemaker and she took great pride in providing for her family in this manner. While she was in Kansas she worked for the Bethesda Home as a nurse's aide and later became a LPN. She then worked for the Cedars Health Care Center for several years before becoming a hospice nurse from which she retired. Barbara was a former 4-H Club Leader in St. Louis, fostered dogs for the McPherson County Humane Society, and was a member of the McPherson Saddle Club. Barbara enjoyed taking classes at the Hutchinson Kennel Club with her dogs, crocheting, knitting, sewing, was an avid reader and loved to share time with her family and friends. Barbara Kraft was united in marriage to Leroy William Knittig on July 11, 1964 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, St. Louis, Missouri. The young couple established their first home together in St. Louis. They were blessed with the birth of four children: three daughters, and a son, Valerie, Janice, Gail and Nicholas. In 1977 the family moved to Canton, Kansas because of a horse! She is survived by her children Valerie Cuthbertson and her husband Dale of Canton, Kansas, Janice Holderness and her husband Jim of Canton, Kansas, Gail Knittig of Newton, Kansas and Nicholas Knittig of Seagoville, Texas. She is also survived by three grandchildren and four&nbsp;great-grandchildren Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Leroy; and half-brother, Everett Carrick; Visitation will be held on Monday, May 2, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in McPherson, Kansas with Rosary at 6:45 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at on Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in McPherson, Kansas with Fr. Barbara graduated from Manhattan High School. She married Ronald Davis, Sr. in Manhattan on August 27, 1967. A longtime resident of Ellsworth, KS, she was a bookkeeper for Robl Farm Supply for 30 years and a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

Barbara is survived by her sons Ronald Davis, Jr. (Dina) of Ellsworth, Chad Davis (Ericka) of Ellsworth, and Bryce Davis (Laurel) of Ellsworth; daughter Niki Davis of Ellsworth; “Nana” to grandchildren Connor, Kaden, Kolby, Drew, Emersyn, Dawson, Hadleigh, Oaklynn, and Dayton; and sister Judy Seyler (Dale) of Cypress, TX. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ron Davis, Sr.; and grandchildren Wayne, Neva, and Forrest.

Linda grew up in Clifton, graduating from Clifton High School in 1966.&nbsp; She then moved to Wichita and worked as a CNA at St. Francis Hospital.&nbsp; 

Linda married Donald “Don” Baker on October 5, 1972 and he preceded her in death on August 23, 2020.&nbsp; The couple moved to Clay Center in 1976 and shortly after Linda opened Baker Daycare, which she operated until retiring in 2016.

She was a member of the SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.&nbsp; Linda was very involved in the Boy Scouts of America and Pack 55/Troop 54 for 31 years.&nbsp; She was the recipient of many awards including the District Award of Merit, Cubmaster of the Year and Cub Scout Family of the Year.&nbsp;

She is also preceded in death by parents and her brother Monty Packer.
