September 17, 1923 ~ January 3, 2022 (age 98)

Cremation was selected.    Memorial services will be held at a later date in the spring of 2022.

Memorial Graveside Services will be held on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at the Chester Cemetery, Chester, Nebraska.   Friends may sign  the register book at the graveside.

Obituary of Howard F. Larkins

Howard F. Larkins, the son of Frank Larkins and Florence (Eickman) Larkins, was born September 17, 1923 in rural Belleville, Kansas and passed away on January 3, 2022 in Aurora, Colorado at the age of 98.

Howard grew up in rural Belleville, Kansas on the family farm, graduating from Belleville High School.    In his early years, he worked at the gas station in Chester and the port of entry.

He served with the U. S. Army during WWII in the European Theater, receiving the Purple Heart.   

Following his discharge, he returned to the area and was a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal service for many years until his retirement.

He was united in marriage to Ruby Shimic and to this union were born: Shelly, Darrell, and Larry.   The couple made their home in Belleville and later Concordia, Kansas.   She preceded him in death in 2008.

Howard was a member of the VFW and the American Legion Post in Belleville, KS.     He also was a member of the Coin Collectors Club.  Howard liked antiques, rock hunting, and yard sales.   He loved being with this family and his dogs.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ruby; sons Darrell in 1994 and Larry in 1988; two brothers, Max and Gene, and one sister, Pauline.

He is survived by one daughter, Shelly Larkins of Aurora, Colorado; grandchildren Ryan Ford, Sherry Phillips, and Sandy Hendrix; many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.
