Clara A. Vignery, 91, of Bennington passed away peacefully at her home on August 10, 2025 surrounded by loved ones. She was born July 21, 1934 in Minneapolis, KS to William Clarence and Mary Kathryn (Felton) Krone.&nbsp;

Clara&nbsp;and Garold “Wayne” Vignery Sr. were united in marriage on May 20, 1961. Clara was a salad girl at Asbury Hospital from age 16 until she married Wayne. After marriage she was a babysitter and homemaker. Clara enjoyed dancing with Wayne, knitting, crocheting, and making her famous cornbread and red velvet cake for family and friends at the Bennington Senior Center.&nbsp;

She was sadly preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, Wayne, her parents and grandson Derek Edgerton and five brothers and six sisters.

Clara’s legacy of love and kindness will live on through her loving family. Her daughters Debby Edgerton of Salina, KS and Cindy Coleman of Florida. Clara was also survived by sons Garold Wayne Vignery Jr (Jennifer) of Bennington, Allen Vignery(Denise) also of Bennington and Melvin Vignery of Oregon. Her grandchildren include: Cassandra Edgerton, Cody Edgerton(Ashlynn), Sharon Gaughan, Christopher Coleman(Myrta), Jesse Vignery, Eric Johnston, Amanda Vignery, Terry Vignery(Julie), Sheila Searcy(Jim), Samantha Fyfe, August DeGraff, Jordan Vignery, Kevin Vignery(Shabri), Stephanie McDaniel(Chance), and many cherished great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held in memory of Clara at the Bennington Cemetery in Bennington, Kansas on August 23, 2025 at 4:00 PM. Following the service we invite all to join a celebration of life and fellowship at Bennington Bible Church, 824 N. Nelson, Bennington, Kansas.

Gary Dean Enfield Sr., 67, of Salina, passed away on August 11, 2025. Gary was born on October 30, 1957, in Pratt, Kansas, to Vincent LeRoy Enfield and Mae E. (Enfield) Millen.&nbsp;

Growing up in Pratt, Gary played baseball with local recreational teams. He was also an accomplished musician, playing guitar, bass, and singing. After high school, Gary worked in the oil fields in and around Pratt. He later moved to Great Bend, where he became a CNA and spent several years working in the healthcare field. Eventually, he relocated to Salina to continue his career.&nbsp;

Gary enjoyed spending time outdoors, with fishing and camping being his favorite pastimes. He also loved being with his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.&nbsp;

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent Enfield and Mae Millen; his brother, Larry Enfield of Norton; and his granddaughter, Alyssa Williams of Haysville.&nbsp;

He is survived by his brother, Danny (Jane) Enfield of Iowa; his sister, Carolyn (Bill) Graves of Ellsworth, KS; his sons, Gary Jr (Kendra) Enfield of Haysville, KS, and Vincent (Victoria) Enfield of Haysville, KS; his grandchildren, Zayla Enfield, Caitlin Williams, Alexander Enfield, and Isabella Warne; and his great-grandchild, Elias Arredondo.&nbsp;

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.&nbsp;

Jolene Rena Cox passed away on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at her home in Salina, Ks, with her husband and family by her side.

She was born on September 27, 1960.&nbsp; She was the daughter of Lawrence and Barbara Mayer (Bullock) in Gypsum, Ks, where she was raised on a dairy farm.&nbsp; She graduated from Southeast of Saline high school and, later, graduated from Brown Mackie College in Salina.

For over 30 years, Jolene worked at Tony's Pizza, in Salina, where she had been a lead on a production line and later worked in the Warehouse.

She married Timothy Leon Cox on October 9, 2010 in Salina.&nbsp; They attended Crossroads Church.

Jolene had a passion for flowers, beauty, and caring for the people she loved.&nbsp; She was always trying out different creative pursuits in the arts ----- painting ceramics, embroidery, quilting, sewing, baking, and, of course, gardening.&nbsp; Her backyard was, always, an oasis of beauty, birds, and an invitation to rest.&nbsp; She wanted to save every wayward flower and injured or abandoned animal.&nbsp; She went above and beyond to care for those she loved.

You might think Jolene was quiet and shy, but she was observant, caring, and loved deeply.&nbsp; She had a big heart and the best smile!

Survivors include her husband Timothy, son Kevin Kruse of Lawrence, Ks, daughter Kristina Snider and her husband John of Grandview, Mo, grandchildren Elliot and Caia Snider, brother Richard Mayer of Gypsum, Ks, and sister Wanda Shaw of Salina.

Jolene is preceded in death by her parents and sister Rhonda Mayer.

The Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, August 30 at CrossRoads Church in Salina.

Charles Edward Atkinson passed away on August 13, 2025, at his home after a year of battling cancer. 

Charles was born to George and Esther (Salstrand) Atkinson in Spencer, Nebraska on October 28, 1934. He attended Central Christian College in McPherson, KS where he met his future wife, Phyllis Hess. They were married on August 24, 1955, at the Caldwell Free Methodist Church, and would have been married 70 years on this anniversary.

Charles received his BA degree from McPherson College and his M.S. Degree in History from the University of Kansas. He taught at Galva High School, Iola Jr. High, and Minneapolis High School. Besides teaching History and Psychology, his teaching career of 34 years included coaching Basketball, Football, Cross Country and Golf.

Charle's teaching career was interrupted by two years in the United States Army. He was stationed in Baltimore, Md with the Counter Intelligence Corp.

After retiring from teaching, he and his wife moved to a small farm just north of Minneapolis. They raised alpacas during the last decade on the farm. Charles and Phyllis processed the fleece themselves and sold the yarn as a finished product. This provided much enjoyment for the couple. He had his own business known as “Charlie's Remodeling.” He and Paul Reidel also installed volleyball standards in many gyms across Kansas and a few in Nebraska.

Charles was a member of the Minneapolis Free Methodist church, and served in many capacities, including Sunday School Teacher, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Lay Leader, and Delegate to the Great Plains Conference. Following the closure of the Free Methodist Church, he and Phyllis joined the Hall Wesleyan Church. Charles committed his life to Jesus Christ and a young boy and lived a faithful Christian life.Charles served on the Board of Trustees of the Cedars Retirement Community of McPherson, was a member of NEA, KNEA, North Ottawa County Teachers Association, Alpaca Owners and Breeders Association, and the Kansas Alpaca Association.

Preceding Charles in death are his parents, four brothers; Lawrence, Melvin, Don, and Les; and a sister-in-law, Darlene Atkinson.Survivors are his wife, Phyllis; their four children, Rick (Pam), Phil (Vicky), Jarilyn Louden (Terry), and K. Scot.; twelve grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren; with another on the way in September; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Friday, August 22 at Wilson Family Funeral Home, 405 Argyle Ave., Minneapolis, KS 67467. Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M., Saturday August 23, at Hall Wesleyan Church, 1937 N. 160th Road, Delphos, KS. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis. 

Memorials are to Central Christian College of McPherson or the Hall Wesleyan Church and may be left in care of the funeral home.

Charles Edward Atkinson

David E. Lehman, 64 of Abilene passed away August 12, 2025. He was born September 9, 1960 in Abilene, the son of Frank and Mary (Gfeller) Lehman. David graduated Abilene High School in 1978. 

After graduating, he went to Kansas State University and later earning his Bachelors at MU. He was a professor at KSU and MU teaching marketing and economics. 

David is survived by his three brothers: Roger, Thomas and Michael (Stacey) Lehman. Seven nephews: Kenton and Kalen Howard; Blaise, Brock, Brogan and Bentley Lehman and Lucas Lehman. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Deanna Lehman and Sandra Howard. 

Graveside services will be 10:00 A.M., Monday, August 18, 2025 at the Abilene City Cemetery with Pastor Stan Norman officiating. 

Family will receive friends Sunday evening from 5 -7 P.M., at Danner Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials be given to The Community Foundation of Dickinson County.

David E. Lehman

Linda Annette Hendrix, 59, of Salina, KS and formerly of McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at Salina Regional Health Center.

She was born July 30, 1966, in McPherson, KS, the daughter of Lewis “Lew” L. and Marilyn E. (Sjogren) Hendrix.&nbsp; Linda graduated from McPherson High School in 1984 and continued her education at Sidney’s Hairdressing College, Hutchinson.&nbsp; She also received a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) degree and worked at area nursing homes.&nbsp; Later, she worked at Walmart.

Linda was a proud member of the Marquette American Legion #253 Auxiliary. In her younger years, she enjoyed bowling and shooting pool. Throughout her life, she found joy in crocheting, camping in Lindsborg, and the excitement of dirt track racing. She also had a special fondness for collecting stuffed animals—especially teddy bears. Above all, Linda cherished her family and loved being part of every family gathering. She was the go-to person for baking family birthday cakes, a tradition she embraced with love and care.

Survivors include her children, Krystal Hendrix (Jordon Hayden) of Salina, KS and Jesse Freeman (Amber Falk) of Tescott, KS; mother, Marilyn Hendrix of McPherson, KS; sister, Tracey (Robert) Miller of McPherson, KS; niece, Ashley (Jon) Bennett of Valley Center, KS; nephew, Taylor Miller of McPherson, KS; two grandchildren, Chance Betzner and Cadin Betzner; grandpups, Batty and Moka; grandcats, Ghost and Valö; and many extended family members, “adopted” children, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Lew Hendrix.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.

On November 15, 2014, in the gentle heart of Wells, Kansas, Josh married Angela. Their union was a sanctuary of love, laughter, and shared dreams. Together, they raised a family that became the center of his world.

Josh is lovingly remembered by his wife, Angela; his chosen daughter, Mariah Riddick; and his chosen son, Marvin Riddick Jr., all of Salina; his sisters, Heather Colonnese, Shannon Colonnese; and his aunt, Sister Carol Davis. He was a proud grandfather to Izzabella, Lilly, Hunter, and Willow—each a bright light in his life, each a chapter in the story he helped write.

He is preceded in death by his biological mother, Peggy Davis and his grandparents, Gary and Toni Davis.To those who knew him, Josh was a steady presence—a man of quiet kindness, deep loyalty, and a heart that beat for his family. We gather here today to celebrate and honor the life of a truly remarkable woman, Dorothy Maxine (Nelson) Poppen, who left us at the age of 109 years. Born on February 22, 1916, on the family farm north of Logan, Kansas, she was the daughter of Carl and Bessie Nelson. Maxine's life was one of great strength, resilience, and love.

Maxine was a woman who knew the value of hard work from an early age. She spent her childhood years on the farm, helping her mother with chores and caring for her two younger sisters. While her siblings worked in the fields with their father, Maxine was at home, contributing to the household in any way she could. She attended North Starr Country School, but her journey to education took a pause as she worked in a bakery to support her family.

In her early adulthood, Maxine moved to Craig, Colorado, where she met the love of her life, Alfred Poppen. They were married on December 18, 1936, in Idaho Springs, Colorado, and eventually settled in Alfred's hometown of Downs, Kansas. There, Maxine and Alfred built a life together, raising two daughters, Linda and Wanda, and making a home filled with love and warmth.

In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Maxine was an active member of her community. She worked at several local businesses, including Rogers Variety Store, Stigge Department Store, and True Family Center. Later, she found joy in volunteering at Carefree Years and the Downs Nursing Center. Her involvement in the Methodist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Downs Senior Center reflected her deep commitment to both her faith and her community.

Maxine's talents were many. She was an extraordinary seamstress, creating beautiful clothes for her daughters and granddaughter. Her crochet work was delicate and stunning—her doilies and tablecloths will always be cherished as beautiful reminders of her craftsmanship. But Maxine's talents extended beyond sewing; she had a love for carpentry and refinished furniture with skill and care. She was, in every sense, a woman who could make something beautiful out of anything, whether it was fabric, wood, or a piece of furniture in need of love.

Maxine was a woman of great strength and independence. She lived in her own home until the age of 98, a testament to her vitality and spirit. Even after moving to the Golden Living Center, she continued to celebrate many birthdays and holidays surrounded by family, always in good health and high spirits.

Maxine's love for her family was evident in every aspect of her life. She is survived by her daughters, Linda (Wilbur) Chartier of Clyde, Kansas, and Wanda (Maurice) Hancock of Downs, Kansas; her granddaughter, Erica (Jeremy) Thompson of Katy, Texas; and her great-grandchildren, Gabriel and Lindy Thompson, also of Katy. Her legacy of love, care, and resilience will live on in all of them.

Maxine was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, Alfred, her parents Carl and Bessie Nelson, her brother Willard Nelson, and her sisters Bernice Gartin, Doris McWhorter, and infant sister Erma Nelson.

Today, as we remember Maxine, we celebrate the fullness of her life. We remember her strength, her generosity, and the love she gave so freely. We honor her ability to adapt, to love, and to make a difference in the lives of those around her. She leaves behind a legacy that will not be forgotten—a legacy built on family, community, and a life well-lived.

Maxine's life reminds us all of the importance of perseverance, the beauty of craftsmanship, and the value of caring for others. On October 27, 1953, Barb married Donald Wilson in Newkirk, Oklahoma. Together, they built a life filled with devotion and purpose—a partnership that weathered seasons and celebrated joys. Their home in Salina became a gathering place for family, laughter, and the kind of love that quietly shapes generations.

Barb was a mother first and always. She poured her heart into raising her three children: Debra Boyer (Brian), Marta Nelson, and Brad Wilson (Angie), all of Salina. Her love extended to her grandchildren, Jon Nelson and Anna Nelson, and to her two great-grandchildren, whose presence brought light to her later years.

She carried the memory of those she lost with grace—her parents, her beloved husband Donald, and her grandson Travis Fisher—holding them close in spirit even as life moved forward.

Born on October 18, 1936, in Wells, Kansas, Wanda was the daughter of Leonard Kuhlmann and Agnes Reh. Her early life was rooted in the values of family, faith, and community—principles that guided her throughout her years.

Wanda transferred to Bennington High School during her teenage years, where fate intervened at a school ball game. With a little encouragement from her cousin, Tomas Markley offered her a ride home to Wells—and from that moment on, their story began. After nearly four years of courtship, Wanda and Tom were married on June 6, 1954, at the Methodist Church in Wells, Kansas. That cherished church now stands preserved at the Central Kansas Flywheels Yesteryear Museum, a testament to the enduring legacy of the past.

In 1991, Wanda and Tom built their dream home, where they enjoyed many years of comfort and companionship. Upon partial retirement in 2000, they embraced their love of travel, spending four months each year on the road. Together, they explored all 50 states, several Canadian provinces—many more than once—and even ventured overseas to England. Though their wanderlust never waned, they eventually settled into a quieter rhythm of life, moving to Presbyterian Manor in Salina in September 2021.

Wanda was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas “Tom” Markley; her parents; and her sister, Norlene Razak. She is survived by her son, Chuck Markley (Kelley), of Prescott Valley, Arizona.

In keeping with Wanda’s wishes, cremation has been chosen and no formal services are planned.

Madelon (Ranney) Hardy, 83, Delphos, passed away Monday, August 11, 2025, in Concordia, with her daughters at her side. She was born September 24, 1941, in Concordia to Harry and Magdalena (Veverka) Ranney.

          Madelon was a 1959 graduate of Delphos High School. She and Leroy Bremerman were married, and four children were born; Ron, Rachel, Martina and M.J. They later divorced and she married Maurice “Al” Hardy, and he preceded her in death on April 8, 2008.

          Madelon worked many jobs throughout her lifetime. She was a hard worker who always believed in being a giver and not a taker. Madelon was a faithful member of Words of Light Fellowship Church.

          She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Leroy and Al; brother and sister-in-law, Duane and Hazel Ranney; brother-in-law, Allen Atwell; and great nephew, Levi Shipley.

          Survivors are her children, Ron Bremerman, Rachel Peters and her husband, Bob, Martina Gieber and her husband, David; and M.J. Bremerman; sister, Deloros Atwell; 11 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and numerous step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

          The family will receive friends from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M., Sunday, August 17 at Wilson Family Funeral Home, 405 Argyle Ave., Minneapolis, KS 67467. Graveside services will be at 9:00 A.M., Monday, August 18 at the Bohemian National Cemetery. 

Memorial services will follow at 11:00 A.M. at the Words of Light Fellowship Church, Delphos.

Madelon worked many jobs throughout her lifetime. She was a hard worker who always believed in being a giver and not a taker. Madelon was a faithful member of Words of Light Fellowship Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Leroy and Al; brother and sister-in-law, Duane and Hazel Ranney; brother-in-law, Allen Atwell; and great nephew, Levi Shipley. Survivors are her children, Ron Bremerman, Rachel Peters and her husband, Bob, Martina Gieber and her husband, David; and M.J. Bremerman; sister, Deloros Atwell; 11 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and numerous step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M., Sunday, August 17 at Wilson Family Funeral Home, 405 Argyle Ave., Minneapolis, KS 67467. Graveside services will be at 9:00 A.M., Monday, August 18 at the Bohemian National Cemetery. Memorial services will follow at 11:00 A.M. at the Words of Light Fellowship Church, Delphos. We celebrate the vibrant, joyful and distinguished life of&nbsp;Dr. Sterling Oline “Bud” Benson.&nbsp; He went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 9, 2025 at the age of 95.&nbsp; Bud was born March 2, 1930 to Rev. John and Doris Benson in Boulder, Colorado.&nbsp; 

He graduated from Luther Academy and Luther College in Wahoo, Nebraska, where he met the love of his life, Louise Crantz.&nbsp; They married on May 20, 1951 and were blessed with 69 years of marriage before Louise’s passing in 2020. To their union were born six children, Karin, Kristin, Carolee, Lori, Mark, and Beth.&nbsp; Louise and Bud lived in Holdrege, Nebraska until 1975 when they moved to Lindsborg, Kansas for Bud’s professorship at Bethany College.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

Bud was a hard worker his entire life, beginning at age 10 driving tractors as a farm hand while the adult population of America were busy fighting in WW2. He bought his own Ford Model TT pickup truck at the age of 12. He paid for his senior high boarding school through cafeteria work, which sparked his love of cooking. In addition, he was a star athlete in football and basketball during his six years at Luther Academy and College.

Bud proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War as a First Lieutenant. He was critically wounded. His life was saved by a MASH Hospital unit. He was subsequently awarded a purple heart.&nbsp; After his service in the Army, he finished his degree at Bethany College, eventually completing Masters and Doctoral Degrees in Education at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. 

He was a partner in Industrial Pipelines, Inc. in Holdrege, Nebraska until 1968 when he began teaching elementary school In Holdrege. In 1975 he joined the faculty of Bethany College to head up the Elementary Education Department.&nbsp; He followed in the footsteps of his beloved mentor, Gladys Peterson. At Bethany, he not only taught&nbsp; students, he and Louise welcomed them into their home. 

He developed many wonderful relationships with his students, who continued to keep in touch after he retired from the college in 1995. The teachers education program he established at Bethany remained a standard for the State of Kansas. Upon retirement, Louise and Bud enjoyed 15 years of wintering in Costa Rica, enjoying the friendship of the Frank and Virginia Leal family. Frank and Bud were roommates at UNL and they maintained a loving friendship throughout the rest of their lives.&nbsp; Bud and Louise also traveled extensively throughout the world. In 2010, they were among the honored guests of the South Korean government recognizing American veterans on the 60th anniversary of the Korean War.&nbsp;

Bud was an active member of Messiah Lutheran Church for 50 years.&nbsp; He and Louise enjoyed serving others. This service included mission trips to Mexico and building projects for the church. In later years he was the pot washer for the summer lunch program at the church which he did until he was 94 years old. His pot washing motto was “If it doesn’t shine, it’s not mine”.

 He volunteered in many different ways. He was a scoutmaster for The Boy Scouts of America, sponsoring canoe trips through the boundary waters and leading campers at Philmont Scout Ranch. He delivered Meals on Wheels with Louise, taught 5th grade Sunday school for years and served on church council.&nbsp; He was a member of the Hyllingsfest committee, known for being the head Swedish meatball maker. He shared that talent with his children and grandchildren.&nbsp;

Bud sang in the Messiah Oratorio Society of Bethany College from the time he arrived in Lindsborg in 1975 until he was 85 years old, a forty-year commitment.&nbsp; &nbsp;

A man of many talents, notably, a skilled carpenter, building furniture pieces, home renovation projects and gifts for his children and grandchildren. Always a teacher, Bud led his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren by example and service to others including taking his grandchildren on his Agua Prieta, Mexico mission trips.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

His community activities, included the Jaycees (Junior Chamber of Commerce) Habitat for Humanity and many other activities. His daily coffee friends and bible study group at Messiah enriched his later life. His professional service included leading Bethany College through two NCATE evaluation reviews resulting in national accreditation, and presiding as President of KACTE from 1986 to 1988. Luther College, Bethany College and UNL Teachers College all awarded Bud the “Alumni Award of Merit for Distinguished Service”. He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa professional fraternity and Pi Sigma Chi of Bethany College. Bud knew that the love from his children and grandchildren was his highest honor.

Bud was preceded in death by his wife, Louise, his parents, stepmother, Ruth Benson, his brother and sister-in-law, Rev. Stanley and Marie Benson, his in-laws, Ernest and Anna Crantz, his brother-in-law and wife, John and Edith Vaughan, his sister-in-law and husband, June and Ray Sodergren, and nephew Timothy Vaughan.

Wilma Jeanne (Webb) McGeary, 96, passed away on August 9,&nbsp;2025.&nbsp;

Wilma was born in February of 1929 in Beverly, Kansas. She was the youngest of five children born to Bert and Olive Webb. She attended school at Beverly High School, graduating in 1947. She married Jack McGeary in August 1947 and was married for 71 years until his death in 2018. They lived in Beverly until moving to Salina in 1953. She is preceded in death by her husband Jack, her parents, one brother Gerald Webb and three sisters, Lois Biggs, Madonna McCall and Opal Doyle.&nbsp;

In earlier years, Wilma enjoyed rose gardening and bird watching. She was an avid baker and guests to her home never went hungry. The front of her refrigerator was plastered with photos of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and although she was a quiet woman, she was the kindest woman with a quick wit. She was a KU Jayhawk fan and never missed watching a basketball game.&nbsp;

She will be greatly missed by daughters, Judy Arpin (Ken) of Salina and Pam VanSchmus (Derek) of Lawrence; grandchildren, Jessica Putman (Kevin) of Galva, Mitchell Arpin (Yemane) of Las Vegas, NV, and Emily Williams (Reid) Lawrence; great-grandchildren, Jack and Kennedy Putman; numerous nieces and nephews as well as new friends made during her stay at Salina Presbyterian Manor.&nbsp;

A private family grave-side service will be held. Per Wilma’s wishes, there will be no funeral.

Wilma’s family appreciates the outstanding care she received at Salina Presbyterian Manor. Wilma loved living at “The Manor” and enjoyed visiting with the staff.

Carol Ann Tully, 81, of Salina, passed away on August 5, 2025 surrounded by family. She was born November 23, 1943 in Clearlake, SD to Melvin and Thresa Schiefelbein. Carol was a woman of many talents including playing piano, sewing, and decorating cakes. She loved to craft and made beautiful items from Christmas ornaments to glass angels. She enjoyed music, trying new recipes, gardening, and doing puzzles. She was also a huge sports enthusiast, from cheering on the Chiefs and Royals, to watching her sons strongman meets. Carol was a caretaker and mother figure to many. She was blessed with five children, many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Roger, of over 50 years, her parents, sister Audrey and brother Bud.

She is survived by two sisters, Marlys and LaVonne and 3 sister-in-laws Doris, Darlene and Judy. Her children, Brian (Lynda) Tully, Lon (Tina) Tully, Brad (Angel) Tully, Tammy (Gilbert) Steckline, and Scott Tully. As well as grandchildren, Ashley Moyer, Lacey Clinkenbeard, Megan (Dustin) Gaj, Drew Tully, Lauren Hardesty, Nathan (Katie) Tully, Jonathan Tully, Barry and Stephanie Steckline , Steven and Clayton Sandler and great grandchildren Lincoln, Cole, Nikoli, Avery, Sebastian, Dominic, Ryan, Serenity, Carson, Ventus, Saber and Ridge. The family will be doing a private get together at a later time.

Arthur Jon “Art” Panzer, 77, passed away July 29, 2025 at his home in Ellsworth, KS. He was born January 2, 1948 in Ellsworth to Arthur Louis Panzer and Selma F. (Hildebrandt) Panzer. Art served in the United States Marine Corps during Vietnam and was a member of the Ellsworth VFW Post 6485. He worked as a wiring supervisor at Elkan and later as a cook supervisor at Ellsworth Correctional Facility before retiring. His hobbies included playing cards and gardening.

Art is survived by his sister Joyce Shields of Lindsborg, KS; niece Denise Peterson (Corey) of Lindsborg; nephews, Dennis A. Shields (Ghada) of McLean, VA and Daryl Shields (Marie) of Lindsborg; along with four great nieces, one great nephew, one great-great niece and one great-great nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Selma.

Memorial service: 2:00 p.m., Monday, August 4, 2025 at Parsons Funeral Home, Ellsworth with inurnment and military honors following at Ellsworth Cemetery.

 </figure>Arthur Jon “Art” Panzer, 77, passed away July 29, 2025 at his home in Ellsworth, KS. He was born January 2, 1948 in Ellsworth to Arthur Louis Panzer and Selma F. (Hildebrandt) Panzer. Art served in the United States Marine Corps during Vietnam and was a member of the Ellsworth VFW Post 6485. He worked as a wiring supervisor at Elkan and later as a cook supervisor at Ellsworth Correctional Facility before retiring. His hobbies included playing cards and gardening.Art is survived by his sister Joyce Shields of Lindsborg, KS; niece Denise Peterson (Corey) of Lindsborg; nephews, Dennis A. Shields (Ghada) of McLean, VA and Daryl Shields (Marie) of Lindsborg; along with four great nieces, one great nephew, one great-great niece and one great-great nephew. Judith “Judy” Ann Brown Gebhardt, 81 of Kanopolis, KS passed away July 27, 2025, in Salina, KS. She was born September 21, 1943, in Wichita, KS to James K. Brown and Clara A. (Rogers) Brown. Judy grew up in Wichita, graduating from Wichita East High School in 1961 and Emporia State University in January 1965. In 1964 she married Gerry Gebhardt. They lived in Emporia and Osage City where Judy taught in the USD 420 Osage City School District. They moved to Kanopolis in August 1966. Judy taught in Kanopolis and Ellsworth USD 327 for 38 years, retired in 2004 then went back to the classroom for the 2006-2007 school year.

Judy was a member of the Ellsworth Methodist Church, a former member of the Kanopolis Sunflower Civic Club, the Ellsworth Senior Center Board, the Kanopolis Public Library Board, the Smoky Hills Community Foundation Board, and she was an Ellsworth County Representative for the Heartland Head Start Program.

Judy is survived by her daughter, Ginger and husband Dale Wooten of Salina; son, Mitch and wife Angie of Gypsum; sister, Kay of Las Vegas, NV; brother, Mike (Marie) of Dallas, TX; two granddaughters, Tiffany (Terrence) Lowe and Katie (Michael) See; five grandsons, Shay (Lindy) Wooten, Jaxson Gebhardt, Luke Gebhardt, Jacob Gebhardt and Grady Gebhardt and eight great-grandchildren. Judy was preceded in death by her husband, Gerry; parents, J.K. and Clara Brown; and brother, James.

Visitation will be at Parsons Funeral Home, Ellsworth on Sunday, August 3, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. A private family burial will be held on Monday, August 4, 2025, morning at Kanopolis Cemetery followed by a celebration of life at 11:00 a.m. at the Ellsworth Methodist Church.

LaVaughn Ruth Urban, 78, of Ellsworth, KS, passed away on Friday, July 18, 2025 at Ellsworth County medical Center. LaVaughn was born May 28, 1947 in Ellsworth to Duane and Vivian (McGuire) Urban. She was the first of their eight children. LaVaughn grew up in Sylvan Grove, KS. She learned the value of hard work on the farm alongside her parents and siblings tilling and planting the fields and taking care of the livestock. After graduating from Sylvan Grove High School in 1965, she moved to Wichita, KS and stayed with family. There she earned a degree in accounting from Wichita Business College in 1966.

LaVaughn married Lee Emerson on May 1, 1966 and made their home in Wichita. Since Lee was in the National Guard, he was soon transferred to Texas. Their son Lance Aaron was born on November 24, 1969 in Killeen, TX. Unfortunately, the marriage didn’t last. After moving back to Kansas, LaVaughn met and married Charles Hills on April 20, 1973 and became stepmother to his two children Charla and Chris. They lived in Wichita and owned and operated a furniture store for a number of years before it was destroyed in a fire. This marriage ended also.

LaVaughn moved to Goddard, KS where she finished raising Lance as a single mother. She worked for a number of businesses in the Wichita area as an accountant throughout her life. She also had other jobs outside of those. She became certified as a massage therapist and kinesiologist. LaVaughn loved meeting new people. No one was a stranger to her and she wanted to help them in any way she could. And she did help many people and changed their lives through her energy work. LaVaughn was always open to new possibilities in life. She gave marriage one last try when she married Leon Vickers on September 23, 1995 and moved back to Wichita. This marriage was not to be either. In 2011, LaVaughn moved to Lucas and then her remaining years from 2017, she was a resident at the Good Samaritan Nursing Village in Ellsworth.

LaVaughn was preceded in death by her son Lance; her father; sister Mary Berry; brother-in-law George Berry; and brother Duane. Surviving family include her grandchildren, Shelbie Emerson of Wichita and Timothy Emerson of Fort Myers, FL; mother; sisters, Carol Soto (Pete) of Visalia, CA, Mildred Zurenda of Clearwater, FL, JoAnn Frederking (Lester) of Beaumont, KS; brothers, David Urban (Candi) and Richard Urban (Connie) of Lucas, KS; and a great many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at Lucas Community Church with a luncheon following. Graveside services will be held at the Sylvan Grove Cemetery after lunch.

Joyce (Lamer), (Cash), Nelson, 81, of Salina, born January 14, 1944, passed away early on Friday August 8th, 2025&nbsp;and went home with her Savior.

Joyce Elaine Lamer was born in Salina, Kansas the second&nbsp;of six children to Roland Walter Lamer and Helen Louise Lamer. Joyce grew up in Salina, New Cambria and Culver Kansas. Joyce so loved her home, her family, and her Lord.

Throughout her life she studied anything that enabled her to better understand her bible and the words of her Lord. She enjoyed sharing her gained knowledge with others. &nbsp;

To ensure for the needs of home and family Joyce established a small service business providing home maintenance. The business thrived&nbsp;for many years. She, along with her husband&nbsp; Clarence (Rick) Nelson enjoyed building their family and growing their three boys Ed, Randy and Chris to adulthood in Salina, Kansas.&nbsp;

Joyce enjoyed music of all types; in her later years she could be observed listening to her beloved hymns whether she was driving or at home. &nbsp;She continually demonstrated her devotion to God, home and family right up to Friday August 8th when our Lord extended his loving arms to little Joyce Elaine and she went home to further attend to family.

Visitation will be 1 p.m. - 3 p.m., Sunday, August 17, at Roselawn Memorial Chapel, 1920 E Crawford, Salina, Kansas 67401.&nbsp; Funeral service will be 10 a.m.&nbsp; Monday, August 18, at Roselawn Memorial Chapel.&nbsp; Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery.&nbsp;

It is a difficult task to summarize a life in a few paragraphs, and for a life such as the one lived by LaNette Thirkell, it appears impossible.

Born on December 11, 1970 in Salina, Kansas, LaNette lived the most joy-filled and fruitful life before greeting her savior on July 31, 2025 in Branson, Missouri.

Throughout her years she left a legacy of belief, joy, and a kindness seldom seen. LaNette dedicated her life to serving others, whether as a licensed social worker, a lunch lady or a paraprofessional. A call would come to serve, and LaNette would always answer with “yes”.

Her joyful and compassionate spirit led countless people to believe in themselves in ways they did not know they were capable, with her daughter always saying, “she could make me believe I hung the moon”. She was the first to fight for those she loved, and as a wife, mom, and grandma, LaNette always put her family first; woe to the person who got in the way. Whether she used her excellent cooking skills or her nurturing spirit, her loved ones always had the most sincere and beloved support imaginable.

LaNette was a blessing as a wife to Scott, a mother to Bethanie Adams and Griffin Thirkell, mother-in-law to Travis Adams and Allison Thirkell, a grandma to Lincoln Scott Thirkell and Eleanor Elizabeth Renee Adams, and a daughter to Dianne Haubein and Doug and Kim Thirkell. Sisters Genee Lindstrom and RaShelle Hook also have many stories to share.
