McPherson - Mary Eunice Crown, daughter of Thomas L. and Martha E. (Cranford) Ensey, was born on May 5, 1923, in McKinney, Texas.&nbsp; On June 20, 2022, with family members present, Mary died in McPherson, KS, passing from this earthly life to her longed-for home in heaven.&nbsp;

She graduated from Carmen High School in Carmen, OK as the 1941 class valedictorian.&nbsp; She attended Central College and after graduating and spending her junior year at Greenville College in Greenville, IL, Central College offered her a bookkeeping job for the 1944-1945 school year.&nbsp; After that, she attended Seattle Pacific College in Seattle, WA, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business in 1946.

Mary then returned to McPherson which remained her home for the rest of her life.&nbsp; From 1946 to 1949, she taught in Central’s business department and during these years, she met her life partner, Milan Wesley Crown, and they were married in 1949.

After taking a break from teaching to raise their family of three sons, she took the secretary job to the academic dean at Central College and eventually became the college registrar from which position she retired in 1989.

Milan’s sudden, unexpected death in March, 1973, shocked Mary and her sons.&nbsp; Mary’s faith that God would walk beside her family through the valley of death never wavered.&nbsp; She faithfully attended the Free Methodist Church for as long as she could.&nbsp;

Mary took up quilting and produced three beautiful quilts that her sons and spouses received on their wedding day, but she didn’t stop with her sons.&nbsp; Many lucky folks received the blessings of one of Mary’s quilted wall hangings.

Survivors include her sons Ronald Wesley Crown (Annerose) of Crestwood, MO, Stanley Joel Crown (Bernice) of High Ridge, MO, and Dwight David Crown (Lori) of McPherson, KS; grandchildren Thomas Crown (Sara) of Overland Park, KS, Rebekah Collins (Kyle) of Webster Groves, MO, Joel Crown (Stephanie) of High Ridge, MO, Hannah Crown of New York, NY, Brad Crown (Megan) of McPherson, KS, and Tyler Crown (Mollie) of Colorado Springs, CO; and a multitude of beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Milan; brother Thomas Cranford Ensey; stepsisters Lois Hanson, Mattie Lee Harrell, and Hazel Trawick; and stepbrothers Clarence Ensey, Willis Ensey, and Lee Ensey.

The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 25, 2022, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Griffith officiating.&nbsp; The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at McPherson Cemetery.

Betty Jane Gwinner, 100, passed away Monday, June 20, 2022, at the Good Samaritan Society in Ellsworth. She was born November 8, 1921, in Ellsworth to Charles and Mary (Fisher) Grubb. 

Betty was a lifetime resident of Ellsworth where she married Robert Charles Gwinner on May 26, 1946. 

She was a secretary for the local SRS office for 27 years. Betty was a 79 year member of Eastern Star, member of P.E.O. since 1965, and member of the Ellsworth First Presbyterian Church since March 28, 1937, the longest membership in the church congregation.

Betty is survived by her son Craig Gwinner (Brenda) of Wharton, TX; daughter Nan Wooten (Coy) of Ellsworth; grandchildren Kim Sheffield (Brent) of Allen, TX, Chase Gwinner (Brittany) of College Station, TX, Lindsey Renard (Tyler) of Ellsworth, Jackie Patterson (Doug) of Kingman, AZ, and Shelby Urban (Chris Pfifer) of Long Beach, CA; and great-grandchildren Skylar, Samantha, Avery, Allison, Willie, Stevie, Andrew, Addisyn, Bryton, and Kinzleigh. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother John Grubb; and husband Robert Charles Gwinner.

The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Friday, June 24, 2022, at Parsons Funeral Home, Ellsworth.

A celebration of life service will take place at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, June 25, 2022, at Ellsworth First Presbyterian Church. A private family inurnment will take place.

Margaret married Larry Houk on March 9, 1963. After Larry’s passing June 12, she later married Jerry Pierson on August 24, 1972. 

Margaret was a longtime employee of the United States Postal Service where she had many positions including mail carrier for many years. She loved to fish, play bingo, and spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Margaret is survived by her son Larry Houk, Jr. (Dani) of Ellsworth; daughters Shamarie Farthing (Chris) of Ellsworth and Christy Pierson of Salina; grandchildren Katie Ranker (Joe) of Ellsworth, Kourtney Strobel (Chas) of Plymouth, MN, Kitsy Krehbiel (Colter) of Marquette, Kylie Pierson of Wichita Falls, TX, Kori Pierson of Salina, and Sam Farthing (Kaitlyn) of Hays; and great-grandchildren Henri, John, Abel, Kadence, Beckham, Lane, Kelli, Korbin, Kreighton, and Aria. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Mary Ann Bates; husbands Larry Houk and Jerry Pierson; and companion Bud Tiemeyer.

Carol J. Jones, age 82, entered into rest on Sunday, June 19, 2022 at the Cloud County Health Center, Concordia, Kansas.She was born October 29, 1939 on the family farm in Colby, Kansas to Henry P. and Jewell E. (Miller) Marcotte.

Carol was a graduate of Sherman High in Goodland, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;She married Verlyn Trueblood, August 15, 1957 in Goodland, Kansas and they later divorced.&nbsp;&nbsp;She married Gerald Jones on April 17, 1994 at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Concordia, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;He preceded her in death on September 9, 2019.

She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Ladies of the Elks both of Concordia.&nbsp;&nbsp;Her hobbies include, crocheting, fishing, camping and most of all spending time with her family.

Carol worked for Hallmark Cards, Emporia, Kansas; Fitzgerald Ace Hardware, Blade Empire, Western Power, and was a Sales Clerk for F&amp;A Food Sales all of Concordia.

She is survived by her two daughters, Jewell Willoughby and Jennifer Trueblood of Concordia, KS.; step-daughter, Debra Jasperson (Randy), Newton, KS.; Step-son, Jason Jones, Concordia, KS.; one sister, Pearlie Chadwick, Delores, CO.; five grandchildren, Heather, Starla, Elizabeth, Kyle, and Kevin; 9 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald, parents, Henry and Jewell, five sisters, Marge McCants, Dorothy Gilbert, Betty Goodhue, Elizabeth Stull, and Shirley Scott.

Visitation will be from 1-8 pm on Thursday, June 23, 2022 at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia.

She was a farmer’s wife and helper for 25 years in Chase County, then resided in Marion County for 25 years before moving to Salina in 1990 for her husband’s dialysis treatments.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Alfred A. Kohls; son Roger W. Kohls Sr.; brothers Ronald, Lyle, and Clifford Lucas; sisters Wanda Feldhut, Betty Crank, and Shirley Burkholder; and son-in-law Dennis Maddox.

She is survived by her children A.W. Kohls (formerly of Salina) and Sonja Maddox, both of rural Chase County, and Barbara Reyer, of Rose Hill; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren, which spanned five generations in her lifetime.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 25, at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N 8th St, Salina. Inurnment will be in Elk Cemetery, Chase County, Kan.

Lois worked on the flagging crew for APAC for many years and she was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan.

She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Rael, Jr.; son Juan; and great-grandson Waylon.

Survivors are her children Frank C.&nbsp;Rael, V and his wife Kelly of Soho, AZ, Catherine Salazar and her husband Frank of Beverly, Treshia Pulis and her husband Ted of Wichita, Autobea Chato Rael and his fiancé Chrystal Sorrenson of Limon, CO, Thomas Lantzy of Cotopaxi, CO and Donnalisa McCartney of Denver, CO; adopted son Richard Rael of Salina; 20 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be&nbsp;from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.., Thursday, June 23&nbsp;at Wilson Family Funeral Home, Minneapolis. John Benjamin Wearing passed away peacefully on June 18, 2022, with his wife and sons by his side.

Ben was born March 2, 1953, in Salina, Kansas, to Paul and Verna Wearing. He was a graduate of Salina Central, Hutchinson Community College and Kansas State University. (EMAW, baby!)

Ben was a true news junkie. His newspaper career spanned more than 3 decades. He worked at weekly papers in Arkansas and Oklahoma before returning to his hometown to become the police beat reporter at the Salina Journal. There he worked for nearly 30 years, retiring in 2015 as the Executive Editor. During his time at the Journal, Ben was dedicated to making the daily paper accurate, interesting, and relevant to his readers. He was a natural journalist, curious and doggedly dedicated to getting the story right. As an editor, he was picky about the facts and the writing. He mentored many young reporters and students, some of whom remained in touch for years. His columns entertained readers; his editorials made them think. Many of his colleagues at the Journal became life-long friends.

Following his retirement, Ben spent even more time riding his beloved bicycles, cutting firewood, and taking over the kitchen.

Ben loved to cook and particularly to bake. His pies, cookies, cinnamon rolls, and most of all his cheesecakes were enjoyed by friends, family and colleagues for decades.&nbsp; Three bylines on page one earned a cheesecake.

As a journalist, Ben was cautious about getting overly involved with local organizations, wanting to avoid any appearance of conflict of interest. Once retired, he joined the AMBUCS at the urging of a friend and found a home with the ramp building crew. The service project combined his love of physical labor with his love of helping others.

In 1985 Ben and Betsy Green went on a lunch date. Two days later they went to dinner and talked until the restaurant closed. A year later they were engaged. They were married three months after that, on October 10, 1987. Theirs was a true love affair. He was her strongest supporter, helpmate and best friend. He was a thoughtful gift giver and frequently bought flowers, “just because.” &nbsp;Together they raised three sons that were the light of Ben’s life. When they were children, Ben wrestled and played with them, read them stories and taught them to work hard. &nbsp;As they became young adults, he listened to them, counseled them when asked, and encouraged them to pursue their dreams.

Ben enjoyed going on walks, visiting with neighbors chatting about cool cars or bikes. He was a loving dog parent and when walking his own pups, carried treats in his pocket for the neighborhood dogs. &nbsp;He was the guy who mowed a neighbor’s lawn, shoveled the sidewalk, or stopped by with a chainsaw to help with a downed limb.

Ben and Betsy loved to travel – alone, with friends, and mostly with their sons. &nbsp;In particular, he was always up for a trip to the Mountains. Ben loved spending time with his siblings. He also loved Betsy’s family and they often traveled to spend time with them. After he was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in 2014, Ben and Betsy were determined not to let cancer dictate their lives. They did not waste a minute of the time they had left.

Ben is survived by his wife, Betsy, sons James, Bob, and Christopher; a sister, Debbie Bengtson (Ken), brothers Gary (Lorrie), Steve (Vickie), Mike (Jan), and Pat; a sister-in-law, Judy Wearing, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Joe; and a sister-in-law, Ellen.

Ben was a tremendous husband, father, brother, and friend.&nbsp; He had a great sense of humor, was patient, never judgmental and seldom displayed anger. He was a workout fanatic, a grammar expert and had great legs.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 25, at 1:30 at the chapel at Webster Conference Center,&nbsp;2601 N. Ohio, in&nbsp;Salina.

Memorials to honor him can go to the Salina Breakfast Bandits AMBUCS for the ramp building project (P.O. 1952, Salina, KS 67402-1952) or to the Tammy Walker Cancer Center (c/o Salina Regional Health Foundation,&nbsp;P.O. Box 618, Salina, KS 67402-0618).

Pauline Fern Brown, 98, passed away Sunday, June 19, 2022, in Lincoln. She was born October 6, 1923, in Lincoln to Roxton Roy Spear and Ida Mae (Hobbs) Spear. 

Pauline married Albert Bird then later married Wilbur Brown after Albert’s passing. 

Pauline was a CNA at the Lincoln County Hospital and at Parkview Care Center nursing home in Osborne. She also provided adult and child daycare for many years while being a homemaker.

Pauline is survived by her daughters Karen Jeffers (Marvin) of Lincoln and Charlotte Bauer of Holt Summit, MO; sons Francis Brown of Bartley, NE, Rex Brown (Barbara) of Osborne; Melvin Brown (June) of Park City, KS, and Kelvin Brown (Deb) of Leavenworth, KS; daughter Wilda Wolf (Robin) of Lincoln; 33 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Albert and Wilbur; infant son Albert Duane; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and her brothers and sisters.

A private family burial has taken place at Lincoln Cemetery. A public memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.

Merlyn Roland Hilt, 92, of Lindsborg passed away Saturday, June 18, 2022 at Bethany Home of Lindsborg, KS.  Merlyn was born May 14, 1930 in St. Francis, KS to the late Fred and the late Elizabeth (Huffman) Hilt.  He married Rita Isaacson on September 24, 1961 at St. Francis, KS.  

Merlyn worked as a farmer and small engine repair mechanic.  He was also the inventor of the tractor tire machine inverter for the use of livestock feeders.  He owned and operated Hilt Tire Feed Bunk.  

Survivors include his wife Rita of Lindsborg; sons Tom Hilt of Salina, KS and Jeff Hilt (Tami) of Blue Springs, MO; daughter Wendy Peterson (Kenny Malm) of Lindsborg, KS; grandchildren Amy Espinosa (Alex) of Salina, KS; Magi Miller of Blue Springs, MO; Drew Hilt of Blue Springs, MO; and Wendy DuMars of Kirkville, NY; and seven great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces nephews and extended family members.

Merlyn was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.

Cremation has been chosen.  A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 25 at Messiah Lutheran Church, 401 N. 1st St., Lindsborg, KS with Pastor Amy Truhe officiating.

Marjorie Irene (Kenyon) Lundberg, age 99, entered into rest on Saturday, June 18, 2022, at the Park Villa Nursing Home in Clyde, Kansas.&nbsp; Marjorie was born in Concordia Kansas, on August 14th&nbsp;1922. Her parents were Edgar Leroy Kenyon and Dora Irene (Graham) Kenyon.

After one year of school in rural Cloud County at JT. 1 C&amp;R, she attended school in Texas where the family moved in 1928. Marjorie returned to Concordia with her family in 1936. She completed her last two years of high school here, graduating in 1938. She lived in Portland Oregon, from 1939 until 1946 at which time she took a job transfer to San Francisco, CA where she lived until 1969.

Marjorie met and married Larry Lundberg. They were married April 2nd&nbsp;1960 in Reno, Nevada and lived in San Francisco. They then moved to Freemont, CA where they lived until she retired in 1986 from her job at the local hospital where she was an administrative assistant in the financial department. They then moved to Concordia, KS and lived here over the next 30 years.

Marjorie worked at the Portland Army Air Base during WWII and after, transferred to the 6th&nbsp;Army Headquarters at the Presidio of San Francisco. After more than 14 years with the AAFES she moved on to other fields, mainly in the investment side.

Marjorie is preceded in death by her parents Edgar and Dora, her stepfather Max French, her husband Larry, as well as her infant sister Patsy Joan and brother Orlin Leroy Kenyon, sister-in-law Sadie (Ames) Kenyon, great-nephew David E. Jeardoe, great-niece Jeannette Jeardoe, nephew Gordon Kenyon and nephew-in-law Dennis Garst.

Marjorie is survived by her nieces Ora Lee (Kenyon) Jeardoe and husband Melvin, Viola (Kenyon) Garst, and niece-in-law JoAnne Kenyon, as well as great-nephew Kade Garst, wife Nikki and their children Kaison and Kaia, great-niece Kyle Dawn Garst, great-great-nephew Bryson A. Smith and his son Bryson III.

She was a member of the Womens Auxiliary of the American Legion, Frank Carlson Library, the Genealogy Club, Brown Grand Theatre, Red Hats, Christian Women, and card clubs.

Visitation will be held from 1-8 p.m., Thursday, June 23, 2022 at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home.&nbsp; Family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m.

A graveside Celebration of Life service will be held Friday, June 24, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at the Fairview Cemetery (A.K.A. French Cemetery) with Pastor Bob Burns officiating.&nbsp;

Faye Callahan, 80, passed away peacefully June 17, 2022, at her home in Salina, Kansas.

Faye, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, was born in Fairfax, South Dakota in 1941 to Fred and Audrey (Baumeister) Weidner.&nbsp; She graduated high school in Butte, Nebraska and when on to study at Wayne State College.&nbsp; After college, Faye worked for the assessor’s office in O’Neill, Nebraska.

In 1965, Faye married Gene Callahan from Greeley, Nebraska.&nbsp; Faye and Gene moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota and returned to Greeley, Nebraska in 1969 to take over Gene’s father’s store in Greeley.&nbsp; Faye worked tirelessly raising five slightly mischievous but ultimately well-intentioned children, while working alongside Gene to manage the business and volunteering time at school and church events.&nbsp;

She was an incredibly selfless and resilient woman, never asking for recognition yet giving so much to her family and community.&nbsp; Anyone that knew Faye knew she did not like anyone making a big fuss over her.&nbsp; Instead, she was always doing little things to make life special for others such as sending handwritten letters, making her famous peanut butter bars, and spoiling her seven grandchildren who were by far her greatest joy.&nbsp; She loved listening to their stories and watching them grow up.

Faye is survived by five children, her son-in-law and daughters-in-law, Charles and Stacey Callahan of Phoenix, AZ; Lisa Callahan of Chattanooga, TN; Steve and Shellee Callahan of Salina, KS; Eric and McKenzie Callahan of Manhattan, KS; and Jenny and Ralph Thompson of Chattanooga, TN; seven grandchildren, Jack, Mike, Kate, Nate, Ryne, Tucker and Parker, one sister Elaine Young, one brother Art Weidner, and many nieces and nephews. &nbsp;

Faye was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gene, and her brothers Vernon and Marvin.

A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. June 22, at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Greeley, Nebraska.&nbsp; A luncheon will be held at the Sacred Heart Church Basement following the service.

Jody Lee (Elwood) Black was born on July 23, 1963, to Robert Neal and 
Norma Jean (Michals) Elwood in McCook, Nebraska and gained her wings on 
June 20, 2022, at the age of 58. 
 She grew up on a farm outside of Wilsonville, Nebraska, with her 6 
siblings where you’d find her outside most of the time riding horses, 
tantalizing her sister Susan with cats, helping her mom and sisters 
dress chickens, and playing with the animals especially the German 
Shepard puppies her mom would raise. She avoided inside chores as much 
as possible. During the summer, it was her and younger brother Kyle’s 
job to bring the milk cows from the pasture every afternoon and take 
them back across the creek to pasture the next morning. She had many 
fond memories growing up on the farm and had said many times she wished 
her kids could have been so lucky. 
 She attended K-7th grade in Wilsonville baptized at the Christian 
Church of Wilsonville before transferring her membership to the United 
Methodist Church in Oberlin where her family moved in 1976. Her faith 
was very important to her and gave her great comfort during her years of
 dealing with kidney cancer. She participated in all sports and 
especially loved throwing the shot put and discus in track where she 
held the Decatur Community High School records for many years and earned
 two state medals before graduating from DCHS in 1981.
 On February 21, 1982, Jody married the love of her life and high 
school sweet-heart, Kenny Black. They lived their married life in 
Oberlin and were blessed with two amazing children, Chelsey, and Jobey. 
Vacations were something very important to her and she planned a family 
getaway each summer. She and Kenny also spent weekends at their trailer 
at Red Willow Lake north of McCook and entertained many relatives and 
friends over the years but the best memories were spent with their kids 
and especially their grandchildren, Paisley, Taydem, Kreightyn and 
Nashlynn. They had many fun weekends fishing, boating, skiing, tubing, 
going for walks and making s’mores.

Jody and Kenny loved to fish and 
their vacations without the kids usually included a fishing trip in 
places like San Francisco Bay, the Pacific Ocean and on the Columbia 
River in Oregon where they caught huge sturgeon. Jody loved to travel 
and persuaded Kenny to drive several times to the west coast to her 
favorite destination, The Oregon Coast and had also driven to the east 
coast to visit Cape Cod, New York City, Boston, and Canada accompanied 
by her sister Char who often traveled with them. She often invited 
younger sister Sandi or one of her nieces to accompany them on vacation.
 Kenny and Jody raised Labrador Retrievers for many years, and she 
loved spending weekends at HRC Hunt Tests and was especially proud when 
Kenny earned his first championship title. Paisley and Taydem went with 
them and decided they could do what Grandpa did needless to say she was a
 very proud Grandma when they both earned their started titles on their 
pups.

Jody had a career in banking that spanned over 40 years beginning
 her senior year of high school she started as a teller/bookkeeper and 
later a Consumer Loan Officer for Farmers National Bank in Oberlin where
 she worked until they sold. She and a coworker/ friend Mick Glaze 
successfully convinced the Atwood banker Barney Horton to start a branch
 of Farmer Bank &amp; Trust in Oberlin which she served as Branch 
Manager and COO for 18 years before deciding she needed a new challenge 
and began as a Residential Real-estate Lender at MNB Bank in McCook 
where she was working at the time of her death. She cherished the 
friendships she’d made while working at those institutions and stayed 
close over the years with many co-workers. Jody enjoyed decorating and 
flower arranging and loved to share her talent with others especially 
her family and friends. She was a very private person and her best 
friend of many years, Jane Gilliam, after many futile attempts finally 
gave up trying to get her to join social clubs.
 Jody is survived by her husband, Kenny Black, Oberlin, daughter, 
Chelsey and Leigh Zodrow, Arapahoe, NE, son, Jobey and Kylee Black, 
Phillipsburg, KS, grandchildren, Paisley, Taydem and Kreightyn Zodrow 
and Nashlynn Black. Siblings, Charlene Springer, Lebanon, NE, Mike 
(Jacque) Elwood Hickman, NE, Danny Elwood, Oberlin, KS, Susan Wilson,

Norma Jean Greenslade was born on March 16, 1928, to John Duaine Greenslade and Alice Lora (Cardwell) Greenslade in their family home in Scandia. She was baptized and confirmed in the Amana Lutheran Church of Scandia. Norma graduated from Scandia High School with the Class of 1946.

Norma was united in marriage to Delbert C. Aspegren on April 20, 1947 at the First United Methodist Church of Topeka and to this union four children were born: Phyllis, Ron, Jane Ann, and Carrie. Family was always her first priority. Her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren meant the world to her. Norma went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 16, 2022. She was 94 years of age.

In her younger years, Norma was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the General Federated Women’s Clubs, Sherdahl Boosters 4H, Daughters of the American Revolution, and Girl and Boy Scouts, holding many leadership rolls. Delbert and Norma raised their children in the church and were very active in all church activities including Luther League, Bible School, Sunday School, and WELCA. They were also associate members of the Love of Christ Lutheran Church, Wesleco, TX. Norma helped establish and open the Svensk Butik in Scandia and loved handmade crafts. Norma server as a cook for many years at the Scandia High School, USD #426.

Delbert and Norma were avid campers and belonged to the Pawnee Palefaces Camping Club for many years. In the 70s, they began taking their camper to Texas and eventually purchased a winter home at Countryside RV and Mobile Home Park, in Donna, TX, making life-long friends from all over the US and Canada. Norma took an active role in assisting her husband Delbert in the operation of their office, the Clarence L. Gile Insurance Agency for 33 years. In her later years, she greatly enjoyed writing a column for the Scandia and Courtland Journal.

Norma was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband Delbert, son-in-law Jim Jensik, and son-in-law Stanley Grueber.

She will forever be remembered by her children Phyllis Jensik of Belleville, KS, Ronald Aspegren and wife Connie of Courtland, KS, Jane Ann Carlgren and husband Ed of Scandia, KS, and Carrie Stehno and husband Mark of Nixa, MO; her grandchildren Wade Jensik and wife Angie, Belleville, KS, Quinn Rakaskas and husband Chris, Thompson Station, TN, Sarah Sadler and husband Tripper, Smith Center, KS, Ryan Carlgren and wife Lori, Courtland, KS, Lisa Manley and husband Colby, Eudora, KS, Bret Carlgren and wife Kate of Courtland, KS, Magdalen Stehno, and Mitchell Stehno, Nixa MO; her great-grandchildren Claire and Emily Jensik, Jack and Ron Samuel Rakaskas, Brody, Drake, and Sutton Sadler, Brayden, Cajsa, and Clayton Carlgren, Mia and Kole Manley, Brandt, Blakely, and Bristol Carlgren; her sister Phyllis Thull, Cawker City, KS; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

Visitation and viewing will be Monday, June 20, 2022 from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at Amana Lutheran Church in Scandia with PMA Marilyn Dunstan officiating. Order of Eastern Star will be conducting Memorial Rites during the service. Burial will be in the Scandia Lutheran Cemetery, rural Scandia.

Gary Robert Armour, 73, of Shawnee, KS, passed away Friday, June 17, 2022 at his home after a 17-month courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.  Gary was born September 7, 1948 in Dunkirk, NY to the late Robert E. and Elinor S. (Hubbard) Armour.  

He married his high school sweetheart, Janice Baker on July 15, 1967 at Salina First Presbyterian Church. 

 Gary earned a master’s degree from Kansas State University and was a career mathematics teacher. He began his teaching career at Clay Center, KS for nine years. Gary then taught 24 years at  Salina Central, seven years at McPherson, KS and one year at Erie, CO. He also taught part-time at K-State-Salina.  Gary also coached football, basketball, and wrestling during his career. In 1996 he was the USD 305 Secondary Teacher of the Year and a candidate for Kansas Teacher of the Year. Gary believed that teaching was a calling and he loved teaching and interacting with his students. He was a member of Salina First Presbyterian Church, KNEA, and Phi Kappa Phi.  

He is survived by his wife Janice Armour of Shawnee, KS; daughters Dr. Chris Pickett, D.V.M. of Shawnee, KS, and Penny Armour (John Walker) of Draper, UT; sons Michael Armour (Cindy) of Benicia, CA and Tim Armour (Lesley Reed) of Baton Rouge, LA;  sister Sue Hine (Rod) of Concordia, KS; as well as nine grandchildren, Emily Armour, Ellen Armour, Alicia Pickett, Josh Pickett, Noah Pickett, Natalie Bowman, Andrew Bowman, Jack Bowman, and Quinnlan Armour. Gary is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Gary was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law Deanna Crick.

Cremation has been chosen and memorial services will be announced at a later date.

Betty J. Eastman Hallowell, the daughter of Bert Edwin Shenaman and Myrtle Mae (Bergstrom) Shenaman, was born March 18, 1929 between Talmo and Wayne, Kansas and passed away on June 16, 2022 at the Republic County Hospital at the age of 93 years, 3 months, and 16 days.

Betty lived in the Republic County area her entire lifetime.&nbsp;&nbsp; As a child, she worked for other people with farm work and assisted her Grandpa with whatever needed to be done on the farm.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She was united in marriage to Dale L. Eastman on August 12, 1950 and to this union were born Robert, Roberta, Randy, Darrell, and Lillian.&nbsp; He preceded her in death.

Betty was united in marriage to Frank Hallowell and there were seven children of Frank's: Bob, Kent, Dennis, Ron, Marilee, Jeff, and Shawn.&nbsp;&nbsp; Betty loved all of her children and grandchildren very much.

Betty worked at the Kravemore 81 Café for many years, the Dinner Bell Café, and later at MC’s in Belleville.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Betty owned and operated her own café,&nbsp; Mom and Pops, on the east side of the square in downtown Belleville.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; She then owned &nbsp;and operated the café in Munden, Kansas until she retired.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Betty later moved to the Buffalo Apartments in Belleville.&nbsp;&nbsp; She made cakes and cinnamon rolls for the other apartment residents as long as her health would allow.

She was preceded in death by her son Darrell Eastman,&nbsp; her parents Bert and Myrtle Shenaman; first husband Dale Eastman; second husband Frank Hallowell;&nbsp;&nbsp;brother William Shenaman; two sisters, Violet Shenaman-Anderson, and Margaret Shenaman-Skinner; granddaughters Genevee and Casandra, and grandson Kerry Eastman.

Betty is survived by her children Robert (Linda) Stone, of Topeka, KS, Randy (Marsha) Eastman, of Salina, KS;&nbsp; Roberta (Bill) Davis of White Bluff, TN; Lillian&nbsp;(Lloyd Rice) Willenborg of Munden, KS;&nbsp; Marilee Curbin of Las Vegas, NV, Robert Hallowell, Dennis Hallowell, and Ronald Hallowell all of St. Joseph, MO, Kent Hallowell of St. Louis, MO,&nbsp; Jeff Hallowell of Olathe, KS, and Shawn Hallowell of Manhattan, Kansas; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at the&nbsp;Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, KS with Pastor Sandra Jellison-Knock officiating.

Interment will be at the Belleville Cemetery, Belleville, Kansas.

Debra Marlene (Rightmeier) Mahaffy, age 69, formerly of Mankato, Kansas, went to be with her Lord at the Catholic Care Center in Bel Air, Kansas, surrounded by her family, on June 14, 2022.

She was born on July 29, 1952, at the Beloit (Kansas) Hospital to Glenn and Ina (Love) Rightmeier. She was educated in Mankato, and graduated from Mankato High School in 1971. Following high school, Deb worked at the Jewell County Hospital. On July 13, 1974, she was united in marriage to Delvis “Butch” Mahaffy, in Mankato. Over the years, Deb and Butch took care of 13 foster children in their home.

After Butch was discharged from the military, they enjoyed travelling together. Deb enjoyed drawing, painting and other art.

She is preceded in death by her husband Butch, parents Glenn and Ina, sister Adelia Hedden, mother-in-law and father-in-law Donald and Edith Mahaffy, brother-in-law Stanley Mahaffy, and a nephew.

She is survived by her brother Richard Rightmeier of Mankato, brother-in-law Bill Hedden of Winfield, Kanas, several cousins and many friends.

Visitation will be Tuesday, June 21st, 2022, from 1 p.m. – 7 p.m., with family greeting friends from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Melby Mortuary in Mankato.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 22nd, at 10:00 a.m. at Melby Mortuary in Mankato, with Pastor Rod Rose officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Mankato.

Ray was born on May 11, 1930, in Washington, OK.&nbsp; He graduated from high school in Maysville, OK.&nbsp; &nbsp;

He served in the United States Air Force.

On April 15, 1950, Ray was united in marriage to Winonah Frances White in Gainesville, TX.&nbsp; She preceded him in death on February 28, 1986.&nbsp; He married Leona Mabel (Jacobson) Whited on April 3, 1997, in McPherson, KS.&nbsp;

Survivors include his wife Leona; children Mike Bratcher (Lou Rice) of Houston, TX, Kent Bratcher (Rhonda) of Yukon, OK, Gary Bratcher (Donna Taylor) of Dallas, TX, Gary Wayne Whited (Arnell) of Hutchinson, KS, Ron Whited (Carolyn) of Grifton, NC, and Wanda Weyand (Robert) of McPherson, KS; a brother, Garland Bratcher (Vivian) of Maysville, OK; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.&nbsp;
