On December 2, 2024, Maria Dolores Gardea Granados, who resided in Salina, Kansas, lost her fight against cancer.

Mrs. Maria Dolores Gardea was born on March 8, 1947 in Torreon Chihuahua, Mexico. She received her education in Sauz Chih and worked in the Gastronomy Area until her retirement.

In her Catholic faith he regularly attended the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Salina, Kansas.

After spending most of her life in Chihuahua, Mexico, she moved to the United States to be with her family.

She was a happy woman, she enjoyed music and she loved painting, knitting, gardening, plants, flowers, crafts. She was a creative, intelligent woman who always sought the well-being and safety of her family.

She was a Woman of Faith, strong and Independent.  Her grandchildren will miss her because she was a light to them, and they called her “Sunshine.”

Leaving behind three daughters, Maria D’ Gardea, Alba Yudith Gardea (Joselus Montoya), and Aida Aly Gardea; her eight grandchildren, Itzel, Leonardo, Patricia, Omaira, Ivanol, Renata, Varleria, Sebastian and her special nephews Sergio Gardea, Mayra Gardea.

Precededher in Death; Her Mother Piedad Gardea, and her sisters, Maunela Cardona, Ramon Gardea, Berndbe Gardea and her nephew Oswaldo Gardea.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at Ryan Mortuary.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday, December 5, at Sacred Heart Cathedral.  Inurnment will follow in All Saints Catholic Cemetery.

Jack Duane McChesney, 93, of Clay Center, Kansas, passed away on December 4, 2024, with his wife of more than 72 years by his side. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, Jack will always be remembered for his good coffee and his kindness and willingness to help those in need, even strangers.

Born on June 5, 1931, on a farm near&nbsp;Narka, Kansas. Jack was the son of John and Ella (Saip) McChesney. Jack shared the family farm with his three brothers and one sister Chester "Chet", Warren, James "Jim", and Neva. Jack graduated from&nbsp;Narka&nbsp;High School in 1950 and entered the U.S. Air Force where he served as B36 mechanic from 1951 to 1955.

Jack attended junior college in Fairbury, Nebraska and Emporia State Teacher's College, following his discharge from the Air Force where he earned his teaching degree. He also went on to attain his master’s degree from Emporia. Jack's first teaching experience was at Centre High School near Herington, Kansas. From there, Jack and his family moved to Belleville, Kansas where he taught science and math; he later moved his family to Hamilton, Illinois, where he taught junior high science in Keokuk, Iowa, so his wife could complete her college education. Finally, in 1971, Jack moved his family to Clay Center, Kansas, where he taught chemistry and physics at the Clay Center Community High School for the remainder of his teaching career. Jack believed that every child had potential, and he sought to help as many young minds as he could.

On June 22, 1952, Jack married the love of his life, Eleanor Fry. To this union, four children were born: Patricia&nbsp;Obourn(husband Malcolm "Mac"); Vicki Streit (husband David); James "Jim" (wife Kathy); and Bryan (wife Lisa). He was also the loving grandfather to Jennifer Willis, Chelsea McChesney, Alexandra McChesney, Kellen Berkenpas, Rebecca&nbsp;Obourn, and Robert&nbsp;Obourn&nbsp;along with great-grandfather to Mikaylin Willis, Jalen Mason, Parker Berkenpas, Kale Shumate, Aurelia&nbsp;Chastangner, and Frances&nbsp;Obourn. In addition to his love of family, Jack also had a love of animals, especially his dogs. His hobbies included flying, even building and flying his own Kit Fox airplane.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ella McChesney, his brothers, Chester,

Warren, and James; his sister, Neva Joy Hermes; and a great-grandson, Archer&nbsp;Chastangner.

A service to celebrate Jack's life will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church, 1330 15th St, Clay Center, Kansas with burial in Greenwood Cemetery.&nbsp;

All are welcome the family requests guests dress in casual attire.&nbsp;

Visitation will&nbsp;be&nbsp;Friday, December 6, 2024, from 4-7 p.m. &nbsp;at Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home, 918 7th Street, Clay Center, Kansas.&nbsp;

Donna Jean Kroeker, 87, passed away December 2, 2024, at Pleasant View Home, Inman. She was born November 30, 1937, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Albert J. and Sarah Ediger Regier. Donna graduated from Buhler High School and went on to get her associate’s degree in education from Bethel College. In addition to being a homemaker and farm wife, Donna worked for Gregory, Inc. in Buhler for 17 years prior to retiring. Donna was an active member of the Bethel Mennonite Church, where she enjoyed singing, Friendship Circle and her ladies Sunday School class. She especially cherished time with family, attending countless activities for her children and grandchildren.

On December 1, 1957, she married John W. Kroeker at the Buhler Mennonite Church. They shared 67 years of marriage.

Donna is survived by her husband John; her children, Loren (Kathy) Kroeker, Inman, Mark (Andrea) Kroeker, Salina, Lyle (Julie) Kroeker, Salina, and Lisa (Justin) Jensen, Hutchinson; sisters, Renetta (Elmer) Kroeker, Inman, Jan (Alvin) Kroeker, Inman, and Sylvia Schmidt (Ken Meyer), Wichita; sister- in-law, Ella Regier, Newton; grandchildren, Andrew (Caitlin) Kroeker, Daniel Kroeker, Matthew Kroeker, Kelsey Kroeker, Kyle (Anna) Kroeker, Katy Kroeker, Kaleb Kroeker, Karly Kroeker, Nathan (Michaela) Kroeker, Timothy Kroeker, Landon (Paige) Stucky, Mallory (Tyler) Cottam, Colton Stucky and Caden Stucky; and 8 great-grandchildren.

Ronald Eugene Currie, age 77, entered into rest on Sunday, December 1, 2024, at the Riverbend Post Acute Rehabilitation in KC, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;Ronald was the first child of Merle E. &amp; Helen (Regnier) Currie.&nbsp;

He attended his first five years of grade school at District 28 rural school, where his great grandfather lived.&nbsp;&nbsp;He graduated from Hopewell rural school and was a 1965 graduate of Concordia High School and went on to graduate from Cloud County Community College in the first graduating class.&nbsp;

He drove a school bus while attending CCCC and then worked for the US Post Office for 12 years and farmed with his father.&nbsp;&nbsp;In 1979, he built an underground home near his parents, and in October 1981, he moved to Kansas City, where he was employed by J&amp;L Construction.&nbsp;&nbsp;He then owned and operated his own construction company called C&amp;R Construction.&nbsp;

Ron enjoyed playing pool and cards, mostly pitch.&nbsp;

He is survived by his sister, Sheryl Williams (Dennis), Concordia, KS; nieces &amp; nephew, Jason Williams (Nancy) and their children, Jace Williams (Allexis Menghini) &amp; Josie Armstrong (Brooks); Julie Redden (Stephen) and their children, Garrett, Brooks &amp; Sydney and Jana Roush (Corey) and their children, Tyson, Taryn &amp; Jaylin and a host of cousins, other family and friends.&nbsp;

Imogene Dolores Reinecke, 91, of Salina, Kansas, passed away Sunday, December 1st.Imogene was born in Wichita, Kansas on December 28th, 1932, a daughter to Edna and Clarence C. Mathews.Imogene and her husband Harry Edwin Reinecke were married March 3rd, 1951 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Geraldine “Gerri” Wehrli, formerly of Stockton, Kansas, passed away on November 26, 2024, at the Phillips County Retirement Center in Phillipsburg, Kansas, at the age of 95. She was born on November 8, 1929, to James “Jim” and Bonnie (Montgomery) Lantz in Claremore, Oklahoma. She was married to John L. Wehrli on August 14,&nbsp;1947,&nbsp;in Russell, Kansas. He passed away on September 4, 2018.

Gerri grew up in&nbsp;Keifer, Oklahoma&nbsp;and graduated from&nbsp;Bunker Hill&nbsp;High School in&nbsp;1947.&nbsp;After completing her education,&nbsp;she&nbsp;worked for&nbsp;several&nbsp;years at the Rooks County Treasurer’s office&nbsp;and&nbsp;many years for E. Charles Hageman at H. C. Sweet Abstract Co. in Stockton.&nbsp;She was known for her diligent work ethic and dedication.

Outside her professional life, Gerri had a wide range of interests that brought her joy. She was an avid reader, always with a book in hand, and had a passion for learning and exploring new stories. Her competitive spirit&nbsp;was evident&nbsp;in her love of games, whether playing pitch, dominos, or Yahtzee, she found great enjoyment in friendly competition. One of her favorite pastimes was playing Chinese checkers with her father, where she delighted in the challenge of trying to win against him.

Gerri is survived by her son, Gerald (Pat) Wehrli&nbsp;of Plainville;daughter, Dereth “DJ” Claycamp of Goodland; brother, Don Lantz&nbsp;of&nbsp;Olathe;&nbsp;three&nbsp;grandchildren,&nbsp;Christopher (Jackie) Wehrli,&nbsp;Lonnie Claycamp and Adam (Michelle) Wehrli;&nbsp;three&nbsp;great-grandchildren, Savannah Wehrli, and twins, Cole&nbsp;Wehrliand Riggins Wehrli;&nbsp;and many nieces and nephews in Oklahoma.&nbsp;

Randall Bradley Hiechel, a cherished son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2024, in Salina, Kansas, at the age of 34. Born on April 21, 1990, in Holton, Kansas, Randall was a beacon of warmth and kindness to all who had the privilege of knowing him. His life, though too short, was filled with love, laughter, and a deep commitment to his family.

Randall was the beloved son of Amanda Sue Macklin and Richard Eugene Tripp, and the proud son of George Martin Hiechel and Julie Gail Hiechel. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Tripp, and his paternal grandparents, Francis and Harrison Tripp and Donald Hiechel. Randall is survived by his loving siblings, David Hiechel (Vicki), Kimberly Hiechel (Merlan), Samuel Hiechel (Shai), Don Hiechel, Lyle Workman (Chrystal), and Roy Workman (Alice). He was also a devoted uncle to his nephew, Zaden Dawson, and his niece, Scarlett Hiechel. Randall's legacy continues through his ex-wife, Meanna Laurin, and his stepdaughter, who both hold cherished memories of him.

A proud alumnus of Quivira Heights High School in Bushton, Kansas, Randall furthered his education at Kansas State University in Salina, Kansas. He was known for his commitment to learning and his ability to inspire those around him. Throughout his career, Randall found fulfillment in his work, particularly at First Choice Security where he created lasting relationships with colleagues and clients alike.

Randall was not just a dedicated worker; he was also a passionate member of the Ragnorak Larp community, where he found joy and camaraderie. He had a profound love for his family and valued the time spent together at family gatherings, creating memories that will be treasured forever.

A service to honor Randall's life will be held on December 7, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Ryan Mortuary in Salina, Kansas. Friends and family are invited to come and celebrate his life, sharing stories and memories that truly encapsulate the spirit of a man who gave so much love and light.

James Dale Lindblad, 85, of Assaria, Kansas passed away November 21, 2024.&nbsp;&nbsp;Born on January 23, 1939, Jim dedicated his life to the land as a proud Kansas farmer, a vocation that reflected his love for community and family.

Jim leaves behind his beloved wife of 55 years, Sarah (Toburen) Lindblad and their daughter Jenny Casey, son-in-law Tom, and grandsons Caleb and Josh. He is also survived by his sisters, Dodie Turnquist and Shirley Trimble, brother-in-law David, and several nieces and nephews.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was proceeded in death by his parents, Arnold and Bernice (Hanson) Lindblad, and his son, Jason Lindblad.

Jim held deep roots in the community, and he was a symbol of hard work and commitment.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was a respected leader at Assaria Lutheran Church, where he was baptized, confirmed, and held several leadership positions throughout his life.&nbsp;&nbsp;Jim was known for his exceptional memory, often recounting detailed histories of his family and community, and he was always ready to lend a quiet hand in times of need. Jim’s leadership, wisdom, humor and ornery nature will be deeply missed by those that knew and loved him.

Philip “Phil” Lee Bloom the son of Bill and Nancy (McCann) Bloom, was born in Topeka, Kansas on November 30, 1955. Phil was raised in Clay Center and graduated from Clay Center Community High School in 1974. Phil married Margie Shaw on September 5, 1992. Phil enjoyed spending time with his family, watching NASCAR and westerns. He was especially fond of his dog, Oakley. Phil was preceded in death by his wife Margie.

Linda Kay Lungstrom, 84, of McPherson, KS and formerly of Lindsborg, KS, peacefully passed away on Thursday, November 28, 2024, at Parkside Homes, Hillsboro.

Linda was born on November 12, 1940, in Niles, OH, the daughter of Harlan O. and Lola Belle (May) Greenwalt.&nbsp; On November 20, 1965, she was united in marriage to Leon George Lungstrom.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on December 9, 2000.

She taught music at Bethany College and owned &amp; operated Laura May’s Cottage, a yarn shop in Lindsborg.&nbsp; Linda was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Lindsborg.

Linda is survived by two children, Michael Lungstrom of Topeka, KS and Laura Lungstrom of McPherson, KS.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister &amp; brother-in-law, Lucille &amp; Barry Parsons.

A private graveside service will be held&nbsp;on Friday, December 6, 2024, at Elmwood Cemetery, Lindsborg.&nbsp; A public memorial service will be held&nbsp;at 2:00 PM, Friday, December 20, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Lindsborg.&nbsp;

Linda Kay Lungstrom

Eileen Frances Mull, 102, passed away peacefully on Nov. 24, 2024 in Salina, Kansas.

She was born on Sept. 3, 1922, to John J. and Helena (Geerdes) Barenberg in Herndon, Kansas.&nbsp; Eileen was the 4th of 12 children in the family.&nbsp; She grew up on their family farm in Herndon and graduated from Herndon Rural High School in 1940.

After high school she attended St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in Wichita, Kansas, graduating in 1943.&nbsp; She then joined the love of her life, George A. Mull, in Marysville, California where he was stationed.&nbsp; They were married on Jan. 13, 1944 at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

After George was discharged, they settled back home in Wichita.&nbsp; Eileen worked as a nurse at St. Francis.&nbsp; She and George had two sons before moving to Great Bend, Kansas in 1958, and then they welcomed another son into the family.&nbsp; Eileen was a nurse at St. Rose Hospital until moving to Salina in 1966.

In Salina, Eileen was hired as a head nurse for St. John’s Hospital, but she valued time with patients over administrative duties.&nbsp; She retired after 21 years in 1987.&nbsp; After retiring, Eileen was a nurse at Drury Place Retirement Center and volunteered as a reading mentor at Stewart Elementary.&nbsp; She dearly loved helping children learn and become successful readers.&nbsp; &nbsp;

After moving to Salina, George and Eileen became parishioners at St. Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church.&nbsp; Here they raised their boys in their strong Catholic faith and became involved in various committees.&nbsp; Eileen was a member of St. Mary’s Ladies Guild, Alter Society, Time, Talent and Treasure Committee, Health Ministries and St. Mary’s Quilters.&nbsp; She also belonged to the District of Kansas Nurses’ Association and served on their board.

Eileen’s strong, deep faith and love of God and her family was the foundation of her caring and dedicated life as a mother, grandmother and nurse.

She loved playing cards, quilting, growing roses in her flower garden, and cooking/baking.&nbsp; She also adored spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. &nbsp;

One of her favorite things to celebrate was Midnight Mass at Christmas.&nbsp; She loved putting together a large breakfast at their house with homemade cinnamon rolls for family, friends and neighbors to enjoy after Midnight Mass.

Eileen lived at McCall Manor for 11 years, after George’s passing.&nbsp; She enjoyed the residents and staff immensely.&nbsp; It felt like home for her.&nbsp; She then moved to Brookdale-Fairdale Senior Living for her new home for the next 7 years.&nbsp; Again, she loved the friends she made and thought so very much of the staff.

George, her husband of 57 years, passed away in 2001 at the age of 83.

Eileen was also preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Alvina, Rosemary, Lucille, Dorothy, and Carol Jean; brothers, Ernie, Gene, Chuck, and Dennis; 4 sisters-in-law, including best friend Cecilia Mull, and 5 brothers-in-law; and 3 nieces and nephews.

Visitation and a Vigil will be Friday, November 29th, at Ryan Mortuary from 5:30 – 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m.&nbsp;&nbsp; Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 30th, at St. Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church.&nbsp; The burial will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery.&nbsp; Memorial donations may be made to St. Mary’s or Mass Intentions.

 </figure>Eileen Frances Mull, 102, passed away peacefully on Nov. 24, 2024 in Salina, Kansas.She was born on Sept. 3, 1922, to John J. and Helena (Geerdes) Barenberg in Herndon, Kansas.&nbsp; Eileen was the 4th of 12 children in the family.&nbsp; She grew up on their family farm in Herndon and graduated from Herndon Rural High School in 1940.After high school she attended St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in Wichita, Kansas, graduating in 1943.&nbsp; She then joined the love of her life, George A. Janelle Nicole Slingsby (43) went to her eternal home on November 24, 2024, at her residence in Topeka, KS. &nbsp;She was born on December 6th, 1980, in Clay Center, KS to Carol and Walter Slingsby.

She was raised in Clay Center and graduated from Clay Center Community High School. After high school, she graduated from Bethany College with a degree in elementary education. She taught in Catholic schools until she became a mother and devoted her life to raising her family.

Her three children were the joy of her life. The time and experiences she shared with them were her most cherished moments. Whether taking them on trips or immersing them in the music she grew up with, they always found a way to have a new adventure.

Janelle had a kind heart, a free spirit, and the ability to make anyone feel loved. Her motherly nature made everyone in her orbit feel cared for.

She is survived by her three children; Lucas, Anna, and Joseph Bergman of Topeka, KS; her father Walter Slingsby of Clay Center; brothers Shon &amp; wife Haylle Slingsby (Kaitlyn &amp; Francis) of Wichita, KS; Adam and wife Alicia Slingsby (Emerson &amp; Dylan) of Clay Center, and Patrick and wife Amy Slingsby of Clay Center.

Sharon Kay Krisher was born January 27, 1938, to Benton and Madelene Krisher of Niles, Kansas. After nearly 87 years of life, she left this world for heaven on Monday, November 25, 2024, in Salina Kansas where she had been lovingly cared for by Choices Network for thirty plus years, and in the past 18 months Gentiva Hospice has assisted with her care.

She was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by sisters Lois Herbel (Jack) of Bel Aire Ks, Wilma Heikes (Dave) of Minneapolis Ks, and Benita Coffman (DeWayne) of Kechi Ks, as well as many nieces and nephews who loved her well.

Sharon attended school at R-12 country elementary near her childhood home on the banks of Coal Creek near Niles. Her best days and favorite stories revolve around living on that little farm. It was a simple life that fit her well. In 1952 her family moved to Minneapolis Ks. Sharon loved to draw and paint, especially roses. She was quite adept at playing Pitch with the family, a skill that her father cultivated in her. In 1991 she moved to an independent living apartment in Salina and then in 2004 to a Choices Network Group Home. Her days were filled with activities at Choices, the Sunflower Day Center, and the Senior Center in Salina. And she still spent a lot of time painting pictures and playing cards with anyone willing to play. Sharon was a member of Belmont Nazarene Church in Salina where she was loved and spiritually nurtured well.

Sharon was a spirited, friendly person who never considered anyone a stranger. She was also braver and stronger than the average person and endured a life that was quite challenging.

Her family meant everything to her. And she was deeply loved by them.

Naomi Baxter, 62, of Clay Center, Kansas, passed away on November 22, 2024, at Advena Living in Clay Center. She was born on March 28, 1962, to Rama and Violet (Beals) Hughes in Miltonvale, Kansas.

Naomi was raised on a farm in Miltonvale, where she grew up with six siblings, learning the values of hard work, dedication, and the importance of family. She graduated from Miltonvale High School in 1980, and in 1982, she married Victor Baxter. Together, they raised four children: Victoria, Gloria, Jason, and Gary.

A devoted grandmother, Naomi cherished every moment spent with her three beloved grandchildren—Taylor, Brooke, and Kiersten. She delighted in spoiling them with love, attention, and laughter, creating lasting memories that will be treasured by her family for years to come.

Naomi’s career spanned several local establishments, where she worked with compassion and dedication. She contributed to Key Mill, Presbyterian Manor, Medicalodge, Wakefield Rehabilitation, and Clay County Medical Center, always offering her help and support to those in need.

Her faith was a cornerstone of Naomi’s life. As a longtime member of Clay Center Wesleyan Church, she fostered a deep and personal relationship with God, which shaped her actions, relationships, and the love she shared with others. Naomi’s unwavering devotion to her family was evident in everything she did—from daily moments to special occasions. Her kindness, warmth, and love will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Christy (Ade) Smith, 49, of Salina, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 21, 2024, surrounded by her beloved family after a brief but courageous battle with illness.

Born in Salina on October 3, 1975, Christy was the cherished eldest child of Brenda (Swisher Ade) Peterson and Eldon Ade. She grew up as a proud Southeast of Saline Trojan, graduating in 1994, before pursuing her dreams at Kansas State University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Marketing. Christy was a true Wildcat at heart, proudly donning purple six days a week, reserving Sundays for cheering on her Kansas City Chiefs in red and gold.

Above all, Christy’s greatest joy and accomplishment in life were her children. In February 2005, Christy and then-husband, Todd Lauer, welcomed Emily Christine into their lives. In June 2012, Jaxson Dean joined the family, born to Christy and Larry Smith. When Christy and Larry united in marriage on July 3, 2018, their family became complete with the addition of stepson, Gage.

Christy’s professional journey was as vibrant and dynamic as her personality. After college, she began her career at GTM Sportswear, managing Kansas State apparel. Her entrepreneurial spirit led her to co-found “Simply Baby,” a children’s boutique in Salina, alongside her mother and best friend, Brenda. For 15 years, the boutique was a hub of creativity and connection. After closing the store, Christy found unexpected fulfillment in providing childcare from her home, nurturing countless children, including her cherished nieces, Landyn &amp; Camryn. Her daycare families will forever hold a special place in their hearts for the love and care Christy gave so generously.

Christy’s warmth and humor were unmatched. Her love for her family and friends was fierce and unwavering, often expressed through playful banter and a healthy dose of competitive spirit—especially when it came to poking fun at her rival sports teams. Christy cherished her role as an aunt, building special bonds with all her nieces and nephews. She was their biggest cheerleader and a constant source of joy and encouragement in their lives. Her laughter, loyalty, and zest for life will be deeply missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

Gary Lee Gilpin, 76, passed away Friday, November 22, 2024. He was born April 9, 1948, at Ellsworth Hospital, Ellsworth, KS, to Sam Gilpin and Dorothy (Wachtler) Gilpin.

He attended school in Holyrood, KS, served in the United States Air Force and was active in the Isis Shrine of Salina. Gary moved from Great Falls, MT, to begin the last phase of his career at Salina Regional Health Center in Radiology, as a supervisor, before retiring in 2017.

Curtis Howard Thompson, 84, of Salina, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, November 12.

Curtis was born in Matador, Texas on February 5, 1940, to Lucious Thompson and Bobby Reed.

Curtis became an ordained minister in 1968 and was a Pastor at Zion Baptist Church and Allen Chapel for many years.

Curtis and Claudia Thompson were united in marriage July 5, 1971 and spent many happy years together before her passing in 2004.

In Curtis’s free time, he enjoyed fishing, cooking, gardening, and going on long walks.

Survivors include his daughter, MattieMae Lytle (James); sons, Charles S Thompson, Curtis Howard Thompson Jr.; step sons, Bennie Williams, Michael Williams (Lisa); sisters, Sallie Mae Jackson, Patrica Thompson; brothers, Hurbert Thompson, Robert Nelms; nephews, Don Jeffrey, Tyrone Morris (Lisa), Raymond Jeffrey; and niece, Mary Jackson.

He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Billy Rae Thompson, Lucious Thompson, Johnny Nelms, James Nelms, Stanley Nelms; sisters, Ann Thompson, Doris Thompson Rivers; step daughter, Vickie Douglas; and step son, Donnie Thompson.

Dr. Matthew Joel Wimer, 39, of Geneseo, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, November 20th, at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis, Wichita.

Matthew was born in Salina, Kansas on January 24, 1985, son of Joel W. Wimer and Jeri LeLynn (Swagerty) Wimer.

After graduating high school, he attended Kansas State University before graduating Kansas State College of Veterinary Medicine. Matthew finished his Journeyman Farrier certification while completing his final year of veterinary school. He then interned at Rood &amp; Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky.

After finishing his internship in 2015, he returned home to Smolan, Kansas to start Ranchland Forge Veterinary Medicine and Equine Podiatry Services.

Matthew and his wife, Abby, were married in Salemsborg Lutheran Church on July 24, 2020.

In his free time, he enjoyed being with people he loved, being out in the pasture, checking cattle, and helping horses.

Survivors include his wife, Abby Wimer; father, Joel W. Wimer; brother, Michael Wimer (Rylee); and sister, Melissa Haverfield (Michael).

He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Blayke, Bronson, Ridge and Rawlin; and numerous aunts, uncles, family, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Jeri LeLynn (Swagerty) Wimer.

A memorial service will be held at Salemsborg Lutheran Church on Friday, December 6th, at 11:00 AM with Pastor Ben Fulton officiating.

A private family inurnment will take place prior to the service.

Daniel Robert Aker died from a heart attack at Salina Regional Hospital on November 20, 2024. He was at peace and surrounded by his loving family.

 </figure>Daniel Robert Aker died from a heart attack at Salina Regional Hospital on November 20, 2024. He was at peace and surrounded by his loving family.Dan was born June 19, 1952, in Salina, the only child of Robert Paul Aker and Patricia (Murray) Aker. Dan, a lifelong farmer, was born during the middle of the 1952 wheat harvest, and the night he was born, the Abilene grain elevator’s leg caught on fire.Dan learned quite young to work very, very hard as he took over the family farm at the age of 13 when his dad went blind. Dan farmed for the next 60 years. His favorite tractor was his 1982 John Deere 4440, which he bought brand new from Shouse Implement in Abilene.Dan raised hogs, fed cattle, and raised crops. The men he dealt with in business were his father’s age or older and Dan was a man before his time. He was a tireless worker and honest.Dan went to St. Andrews School in Abilene and graduated from the 8th grade there. His mother made him go to the new St. Andrews School because her dad, Joseph Murray was an Abilene Architect, and he drew the plans for the school. While at St. Andrews, Dan’s dad began to lose his sight. To feed the hogs at home, Dan would load milo on the truck and drive it to the Abilene Coop. After leaving the truck at the Coop he would walk to St. Andrews, attend school, walk to the Coop after school, drive the truck home, and scoop the ground feed to the hogs. Although at the time, Dan did not have a Drivers License, this was overlooked by the County Sheriff who knew Dan’s dad. Dan was only 11 when he started driving the truck to the Coop for feed, it was a 1946 International, and he could barely reach the pedals.Dan graduated from Abilene High School with the class of 1970. He was the Abilene FFA President while in school. In June 1970 Dan bought his first farm. Also in June 1970, 18-year-old Dan Aker received his Draft notice for the Vietnam War. Dan’s draft number was 44. He received a hardship deferment because he was the only child to a blind father whose sole labor kept the farm going.In 1971 he built a farrowing house and nursery for his farrow to finish hog operation. Before the farrowing house was finished, he had sows in it pigging. For over thirty years Dan ran the hog houses from farrow to finish. Throughout the coming years, Dan would buy more land and build the farming operation. Dan baled thousands of bales of hay, raised thousands of hogs, fed thousands of cattle and binned and hauled thousands of bushels of grain to local elevators.On November 22, 1985, Dan married Jean Ann Feigley. They were two days shy of celebrating 39 years of marriage when Dan passed away. Jean Ann survives of the home.Three children were born to this marriage: Benjamin Daniel Aker, Marie Elizabeth Haycook, and Joseph Robert Aker, all of Abilene. Dan has one grandchild, Brayden Daniel Haycook, Abilene. Dan is also survived by several cousins.Grandpa (Dan) and Brayden would sit at the kitchen table and talk about the farm.Dan was proceeded in death by both parents.Dan was a 51-year member of the Abilene Elks Club, served 35 years as Saline County Rural Fire District Number 1, including several years as Garfield station’s Chief, and many years as the Abilene Coop Board President. He annually supports Dickinson County 4-H.Dan could fix anything, doctor livestock, and never complained about long days. He was honest and loyal, with strong values, and he never quit. He raised his children to be the same.Rosary will be held at St. Andrews Church, Abilene on Tuesday, November 26 at 5:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 am Wednesday, November 27 at St. Andrews Church in Abilene with Father Peter O’Donnell. Burial will follow at Mt. St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Abilene. Memorials to St. Andrews School or St. Andrews Church.
