Judith (Judy) Ann Adam, passed away peacefully at her home in Tipton, Kansas, on July 19, 2025, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She was born on December 20, 1950, in Beloit, Kansas. She was the cherished wife of Edward (Ed) Adam, whom she was united in marriage with on July 5, 1969.

Judy earned her high school diploma from Lebanon High School in 1969 and embarked on a diverse career journey. She worked various jobs, including owning and bartending at The Town Pump and providing in-home daycare. However, it was her time at Farmway COOP that defined much of her professional life. Judy spent many years there, first at the service station and later transferring to the elevator, from where she retired in 2016. Her work ethic and friendly demeanor left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

Judy was known for her easy-going personality, great sense of humor, and her willingness to lend a helping hand. Her love for family was evident in everything she did, particularly during the holidays, which she cherished as special times for gathering and creating lasting memories. Famous for her exceptional pie-baking skills, she delighted in sharing her creations with friends and loved ones.

Judy found joy in various hobbies and interests beyond her professional life. She took immense pleasure in watching her grandchildren participate in extracurricular and school activities, always cheering them on enthusiastically. Her leisure pursuits included cross-stitching, nurturing her garden, and the thrill of slot machines, which she enjoyed greatly.

Judy is survived by her loving husband, Edward Adam, of Tipton; her daughters Stephanie Walker of Wichita, Tammy Adam of Graham, Washington, and Kala Phillips, along with her son-in-law Joe Phillips, of Tipton. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren: Kasey and Cole Buffo of Jetmore; Alexis and Brendan Julian of Phoenix, Arizona; Jadyn and Dalton Penka of Kenosha,Wisconsin; Danica Walker and Grayce Walker of Wichita; Kaden, Nolan, Garrett, and Annabelle Phillips of Tipton. Additionally, she is remembered by her &nbsp;brother, Ronnie Bowman, of Salina; and several brother-in-law’s, sister-in-law’s, nieces, nephews, and great grandchildren.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Max and Maxine Bowman and her sister, Karen Bracy. In accordance with her wishes, a cremation has taken place. Memorials may be made to the Cancer Center of Kansas or Solomon Valley Hospice, who provided support during Judy’s brave fight with cancer.

A Rosary Service will be held at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Tipton, Kansas, on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at 9:30 a.m., followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Inurnment will follow at St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery. Kenneth “Ken” Alfred Dechant, 73, of Salina, Kansas, passed away on July 15th, 2025, at Smoky Hill Health &amp; Rehabilitation. Born on April 14th, 1952, in Hays, Kansas, the son of Alfred “Fritz” W. Dechant and Dorothy (Honas) Dechant.

Ken graduated from St. Joseph’s Military Academy in 1970, then joined the Army Reserves in 1971. He was stationed at the 388th Medical Battalion in Hays, Kansas, and served there until he was honorably discharged in March of 1977. He then went on to receive his associate’s degree in accounting and business administration/management from Brown Mackie College in 1991.

On July 8th, 1972, Ken married the love of his life, Judy Ann Werth. Fr. Steve Letourneau united them in marriage at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Hays, Kansas. Their union was a celebration of love and dedication that prospered over the next 53 years.

Ken worked as a grocery manager at Dillons in Great Bend, Kansas for 10 years. After moving to Salina, he worked 9 years as the safety coordinator at Dillons. He then went on to work for Kansas Highway Patrol Troop C as a Communications Specialist II, retiring in September of 2014.

On any given day of the week, you could find Ken watching the KC Chiefs, KC Royals, or Gunsmoke. He also enjoyed playing card games with family and friends, such as pitch or pinochle. His favorite pastime of all was watching his children and grandchildren's sports games, band concerts, Special Olympics bowling, and various other activities. Rain or shine, he would be in the crowd cheering for his family at every event.

He was a member of St. Mary Queen of the Universe Parish in Salina, Kansas.

Ken was preceded in death by his father Alfred “Fritz” W. Dechant, younger sister Joyce D. Dechant, and nephew Wade M. Dreiling.

Remaining to cherish Ken's memory are his wife Judy, his mother Dorothy Dechant; &nbsp;Sisters: Linda Rohr (Allen), Janice Prater, and Marybeth Dreiling (Bruce); Children: Ryan Dechant (Courtney), Tara Dechant, Erica Dechant, and Adam Dechant (Chaneil); Grandchildren: Ashlyn, Ariel, Skylar, Cooper, Finley, and Kaidyn Dechant; and many more nieces, nephews, and relatives.

Visitation will be held at St. Mary Queen of the Universe on Thursday, July 24th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, located at 230 E Cloud St. Salina, KS 67401.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, July 25th at St. Mary’s, with Fr. Kevin Weber officiating. An Inurnment ceremony will be held immediately after at All Saints Catholic

Cemetery, located at 3350 E Crawford St. Salina, KS 67401.

The family invites everyone to a luncheon at St. Mary’s Parish Hall directly following the Inurnment.

Bernadine Bernice (Mettlen) Minear 95, was born March 1,1930 in Doniphan, Nebraska. Daughter of CA Mettlen and Velma.

Bernadine departed peacefully July 17,2025 at Lincoln Park Manor, Lincoln, Ks.

She has proceeded in death by; Dwight Minear, husband; Steve and Sylvia Minear, Son and daughter-in-law; Marianna Maginess, daughter; Serena Gagliardi, daughter; Deb Minear, daughter-in-law; Darin Vance, grandson.

Among survivors are: Shelley Buchanan, daughter Fayetteville, AR; Jay Minear, son Lincoln, KS; 11 Grandchildren &amp; 7 great grandchildren.

Bernadine had a vivacious full life. Full of joy and much laughter. She loved her family and spoke her mind well. She was loved by many. She was a homemaker, Mom, grandma, great grandma. Leaving a legacy of her talents and knowledge to each one she came in contact with. She was an entrepreneur, owning several businesses and being successful at each one. Her talents lead to being a dairy woman, gardener, seamstress, baker and businesswoman.

Bernadine Bernice (Mettlen) Minear

Jerome Koester Johnson, age 92, of Concordia, KS, passed away on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, with his family by his side at the Salina Regional Health Center, Salina, Kansas. He was born on November 28, 1932, in the Nelson Township area of rural Concordia, Kansas to Charles D. and Mary L. (Mayme Koester) Johnson.

He graduated from Concordia High School in May of 1950. He married Joan Hoover on September 16, 1956, at the Presbyterian Church in Concordia, KS. From this union, Deanna, Kenneth, Brenda, and Rhonda were born.

Jerome was a proud veteran. He served in the United States Army from 1953 – 1955. After completing high-speed radio operator school at Camp Gordon, Georgia, he shipped out to Erlangen, West Germany, where he served in the 48th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion (Self-Propelled). This was during the Cold War and the unit spent much of its time near the border with Czechoslovakia. For his service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Army of Occupation Medal (Germany), and the Good Conduct Medal. After returning to the United States in 1955, he was honorably discharged at the rank of Corporal.

He was a member of the Huscher United Methodist Church, American Legion Post #76, V.F.W., Masonic Lodge at St. John’s Lodge #113, Concordia Chapter #45, Concordia Commandry #42, Hiram Council #10, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite of Freemasonry and ISIS Shrine.

Jerome farmed in the Huscher area. He loved farming, enjoyed owning and operating Johnson Electronics and talking on his Ham Radio. Jerome was happiest while spending time with wife Joan, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Jerome is survived by his children: Deanna Leon (Stuart), Surprise, AZ; Kenneth Johnson, Concordia, KS; Brenda Johnson (Michael), Salina, KS; and Rhonda Ailslieger (Kristafer), Topeka, KS; grandchildren Joshua Leon (Susan), Sarah Kilpatrick (Troy), Stacy Duis (Jeremy), Michelle McKittrick (Jake), Katie Whitley (Levi), Emily Black (Colton), Ryan Johnson, Megan Johnson, Lauren Ailslieger, Morgan Ailslieger, Braden Ailslieger and 20 great grandchildren.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Joan, who passed March 11, 2025.

Jerome Koester Johnson

Wilfred John Vargas, 101, passed away on July 14, 2025, at Bethany Home in Lindsborg, KS. He was born on November 6, 1923, to Benjamin and Paula (Ramirez) Vargas.

Wilfred became an orphan at the age of 9 and was placed, along with his brother Alfred, in the St. Joseph Orphanage in Abilene, KS. The brothers attended school in Abilene.

He joined the United States Marine Corps and served during World War II in the Pacific, as well as in the Korean War. After his military service, Wilfred held numerous jobs, including work as a plumber and carpenter. He was also employed in the electrical field, lead wiring, and sheet metal work; worked as a machinist at an aircraft manufacturing plant; and later worked for the Union Pacific Railroad.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Sarah Cordero, Josephine Sanchez, Hope Rojas, and Francis Vargas; and brothers, Rudolph, Alfred, and Gregorio.

Although Wilfred never had children of his own, he had many nieces and nephews who were very dear to him.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date.

The family would like to thank Bethany Home and Interim Hospice for their compassionate and professional care.

 </figure>Wilfred John Vargas, 101, passed away on July 14, 2025, at Bethany Home in Lindsborg, KS. He was born on November 6, 1923, to Benjamin and Paula (Ramirez) Vargas.Wilfred became an orphan at the age of 9 and was placed, along with his brother Alfred, in the St. Joseph Orphanage in Abilene, KS. The brothers attended school in Abilene.He joined the United States Marine Corps and served during World War II in the Pacific, as well as in the Korean War. After his military service, Wilfred held numerous jobs, including work as a plumber and carpenter. He was also employed in the electrical field, lead wiring, and sheet metal work; worked as a machinist at an aircraft manufacturing plant; and later worked for the Union Pacific Railroad.He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Sarah Cordero, Josephine Sanchez, Hope Rojas, and Francis Vargas; and brothers, Rudolph, Alfred, and Gregorio.Although Wilfred never had children of his own, he had many nieces and nephews who were very dear to him.A private graveside service will be held at a later date.The family would like to thank Bethany Home and Interim Hospice for their compassionate and professional care.Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Cathedral or Catholic Charities, in care of Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. 8th St., Salina, KS 67401.Semper Fi

John Richard Turner&nbsp;(JT), 81, of McPherson, Kansas, and formerly of Glendale, Arizona, passed away peacefully at noon on July 16, 2025, with his loving wife by his side.

John was born on January 1, 1944, in Wichita, Kansas, the second son of Elbert S. and June F. (LaMar) Turner. John grew up in Alden, Hutchinson, and McPherson, Kansas where he graduated from McPherson High School, Class of 1962.&nbsp; John graduated as Safety Club President.&nbsp; On August 23, 1985, John was united in marriage to Sandy Bergman in Phoenix, Arizona.

John retired from the automotive industry after 43 years and continued working another seven years at both Home Depot in Phoenix, AZ and Lowes in Kansas City, MO.&nbsp;

He is survived by his older brother, Gary (Susie) Turner of Shawnee Mission, KS; his loving wife of nearly 40 years, Sandy Turner of the home; his children, Terri (Mike) Lacy of McPherson, KS, John W. Turner of Oklahoma, and Jim (Diane) Turner of Noblesville, IN; his four grandchildren, Shelby (Christopher) Neilson of Manhattan, KS, who are expecting a baby in August; Jenna (Blake) Bowman of Manhattan, KS, and their children, Bennett and Avery; and Ashlynn Turner and Adyson Turner, both of Noblesville, IN; and many extended relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert Turner and June Turner-Frick; brother, Phillip D. Turner; and son-in-law, Marty Crampton.

John will be laid to rest in McPherson Cemetery with a graveside service at a future date to be announced.

Janeth Kay Burch, 78, of Salina, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, July 10, 2025.

Born in Salina on May 31, 1947, Janeth was the daughter of Hermenia L. (Younger) and John G. Waldschmidt. She remained deeply rooted in her hometown, where she built a life centered around family and compassion.

Janeth is survived by her three children, Nicole Burch of Salina, Rebecca Burch of Wichita, and Christopher Burch (Christina) of Salina. Her legacy continues through nine grandchildren—Patricia Carney, Brandon Burch, Cheyenne Phillippe (Larry), Tanner Martindale, Justin Burch, Gage Burch, Chase Martindale, Ephram Martindale, and Trinity Burch—as well as two great-grandchildren, Rory and Andrew, with one more on the way.

She is also survived by her sister, Bernita Powell of Danville, Virginia.Janeth was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Chuck Byer; and siblings Herbert Waldschmidt, John Waldschmidt Jr., Bernard Waldschmidt, Melvin Waldschmidt, Donald Waldschmidt, and Leveda Peters.

Sandie graduated from Dubuque High School in the 1961 class. She married Gerald McCord in 1975.

Merlin Duane “Pete” Peterson, 94, Minneapolis, was born June 3, 1931, in Tescott, to Christian Oswald and Nora Rebecca (Werries) Peterson. He died July 14, 2025, in Salina surrounded by family.

Pete served in the Air Force from 1951-1953 during the Korean War. He and Eva Mae Bradbury were married on September 4, 1954, in Ada. He worked for the United States Postal Service as a rural mail carrier and at Eldorado Motor Corporation.

Pete was passionate about cars and flying airplanes. A highlight from later years in life was his 90th birthday lunch/celebration/flight at Stearman Field in Benton.

Pete was preceded in death his parents; wife, Eva; two brothers, Lloyd and Melburn; and an infant sister.

He is survived by three daughters, Lu Ann Stewart and husband, Greg, Jacque Havice and husband, George, and Lisa Parker; 11 grandchildren, Kimberley (Chad) Abresch, Stephanie (Andrew) Pedersen, Preston (Carissa) Stewart, Sierra Stewart, Madeleine Stewart (Robert Duff), Jodi (Karl) DeArmond, Jenny (Kyle) Weiser, Jessica (Taylor) Hess, Lindsey (Seth) Rohde, Alex Parker, and Kaleigh (Devin) Knox; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services with military honors will be at 10:00 A.M., Monday, July 21, at Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis. Candi was the beloved wife of Kevin Risley and a devoted mom to Jodi and Josh Stamps, Daisy Risley, Rieanna Risley, and Tia Risley. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Kalli Canion, Teagan Canion, Silas Stamps and Grayson Kinnaird. She was a cherished sister to Michael and Beverley Stone. Candi also leaves behind many friends who were like family to her.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her dear mother, Sharon Stone, whom she loved so much.

Candi had a zest for life that was impossible to miss. She loved being outdoors and enjoyed her book collection whenever she could steal a quiet moment. She was a true social butterfly who could make anyone feel welcomed and loved. She had a gift for lighting up any room with her laughter and kindness.

She loved her children and grandchildren fiercely, and her family was the heart of her world. Candi was a hard worker who built lasting friendships wherever she went and always had a way of making her coworkers feel like family. Her warmth and generosity will be missed by so many.

Mary “Candi” Risley

Jackie Lee Gifford, 70, of Salina, passed away on July 14, 2025. Jackie was born on March 11, 1955, in Weatherford, OK, to Billy Don Gifford and Clarissie Hulsey Gifford.

He attended Putnam City West High School in Bethany, OK, and graduated with the class of 1974. Jackie grew up loving and racing cars, becoming a member of the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series, American Sprint Car Racing Series, National Championship Racing Association, Oklahoma Racing Association, and the National Hot Rod Association.

Jackie competed in both drag racing and sprint car racing. He loved being on the track and never missed a NASCAR race. He also enjoyed building model cars and hot rods in his garage. Off the track and out of the garage, Jackie worked as a carpenter, farmer, and welder. On the farm, he rode and cared for his horses. Above all, Jackie loved spending time with his family and friends—whether at the track or at home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Billy Don Gifford and Clarissie Gifford.

Jackie is survived by his sons, Chad Gifford and Jeremiah Gifford; his daughters, Adrianne Wooley and Stephanie Gifford; and many grandsons and granddaughters.

Jackie was born on March 11, 1955, in Weatherford, OK, to Billy Don Gifford and Clarissie Hulsey Gifford.He attended Putnam City West High School in Bethany, OK, and graduated with the class of 1974. Jackie grew up loving and racing cars, becoming a member of the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series, American Sprint Car Racing Series, National Championship Racing Association, Oklahoma Racing Association, and the National Hot Rod Association.Jackie competed in both drag racing and sprint car racing. He loved being on the track and never missed a NASCAR race. He also enjoyed building model cars and hot rods in his garage. Off the track and out of the garage, Jackie worked as a carpenter, farmer, and welder. On the farm, he rode and cared for his horses. Jackie Lee Gifford

Leta "Joan" (Dietz) Dean passed away, July 14, 2025, in Wichita, Kansas at the Harry Hynes Hospice. She was born on August 8, 1929, to William Raymond (Ray) and Leta Bertna (Vilott) Dietz at her grandparents’ home located 6 miles west and 1 1⁄2 miles south of Mankato, Kansas in Limestone Township.

Joan attended all her school years in lonia, Kansas where she graduated as valedictorian in 1947. She worked as a telephone operator, and later as harvest help at the elevator, until settling in as a farm wife and homemaker.

She married Robert "Bob" Dorwin Dean on August 8, 1948, at his parents' home in lonia, Kansas. To this union was born 2 sons: Jack Dorwin on September 29, 1951, and Randy Ray on May 3, 1963. Joan and Bob crop farmed, had a cow herd and raised hogs on a farrow to finish operation. They raised their boys to work hard, and the hogs came first! Joan always joked that the hogs had air conditioning long before she had it in her home.

Joan was an only child and knew it was her responsibility to "make it work"; a promise she made and kept to her mother.

Joan's boys and her grandkids were the most important thing to her. Joan &amp; Bob followed Jack &amp; Randy and later Trent, Brady, Shane, Samantha and Robbie in as many sports and school activities as possible. It was extremely special to her that she also had great grandchildren.

Joan loved a nice yard, balanced checkbooks, and a spic n span home. She was a great cook. The family will greatly miss her potato salad, homemade noodles, banana cream pie, white layered cake, and red jello cups with marshmallows. Joan passed on her chocolate chip cookie recipe to only a few; with Samantha winning top ribbon at the 4-H fair with them.

She was a member of Harmony United Methodist Church. She had a close circle of friends that played cards and always met for each other's birthdays.

Joan will be missed by her sons, Jack Dorwin Dean of rural Mankato, and Randy Ray Dean (Rebecca) of rural Mankato; grandchildren, Trenton Dorwin Dean, Brady Ray Dean (Ashley) and their children, Briley Rae Dean and Brantley Ray Dean, Samantha Rae Gill (Jeremy) and their son Henry Mason Gill, Robert Randy Dean (Lindsey) and their son Kash Robert Dean; step grandsons, Shane Britt and Noah Williams; and a host of other friends and relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Robert "Bob" Dean.

Funeral services will be held at Melby Mortuary on Friday, July 18, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Rod Rose officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Mankato, Ks. Visitation will take place on Thursday, July 17, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family

After a courageous four-month battle following a medical procedure, Le Roy Gene “Gene” Hindman passed peacefully on July 12, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Though our hearts are heavy, we celebrate a life filled with kindness, humor, and a spirit that left an indelible mark on everyone who had the pleasure to know him. Gene was a gentle soul with a fierce spirit – the kind of man who could light up a room with a single smile or a well-timed “Hey, buddy!” He believed in taking life slow, enjoying each moment, and leaving people better than he found them.

Born May 17, 1942, Gene was the cherished son of James Ervin “Erv” Hindman and Mildred Johnson, and later stepson to Lucille.

He is survived by his devoted wife and best friend, Virginia Hindman (Morris), whose hand he held through life’s every high and low. Their love—rooted in patience, laughter, and the phrase “Always and forever”—was the kind you read about in books.

Gene is also survived by his brothers, Gary Hindman (wife Carol, d. 2015), Jamie Hunter (Leann); nephews Michael Hindman (RaShelle), Shane Hunter (Deanna); and a multitude of great nieces, nephews, and cousins; children, Wayne Barham (Reta), Tonya Johnson (Chris), and Sonya Burgess; grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in his heart: Cevon Johnson, Isaiah Johnson, Angelica Hinklin, Allen Barham (Jamie), Alisa Cole (Chuck), Angelina Burgess, Daenara Burgess (Nima), Tonya Burgess, Rachel Burgess (Chris), Christopher Burgess, Jessica Sumahit (Mike), and Amber Hamilton (Gerald); and great-grandchildren, who brought him endless joy: Alyssa Barham, Detrique Barham, Jasper Barham, Wyatt Cole, Olivia Cole, Klohe Leonard, Anthony Leonard, Maxwell Burgess, Greyson Burgess-Tatad, Brycen Sumahit, Bella Sumahit, Biship Klinger, Rayne Janes, Nahani White, Omaria White, Phynlee White, and Qekin White.

He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, beloved sister Dee Palmer; and niece, Shannon Lopatowski.Gene loved spending time with extended family in Missouri with his brothers and sister-in-laws, and with his nieces and nephews in Tennessee, Arkansas, and Colorado. Family meant everything to him. Whether camping, fishing, playing cards, or manning the grill with his son-in-law Chris Johnson, Gene brought light and laughter to every room. He especially loved the quiet days spent in his Man Cave—one of many heartfelt projects he and Chris tackled together.

A proud veteran, Gene served three years in the National Guard, held an honorary badge from the Sheriff’s Department, where he once served, and was a longtime member of the Shriner’s and the Salina Elk’s Club. He spent decades working as a car salesman, and continued doing what he loved until the age of 82. His coworkers remember him as dependable, generous, and always up for a chat and a chuckle.

Gene had a pocketful of sayings for every occasion. He reminded us, “If you can fix it, fix it. If you can’t, don’t worry about it.” He greeted life with a smile, entered every room with a friendly “What y’all doing?” and taught his grandchildren to “slow down and enjoy”—not just sandwiches, but life itself.

His passing leaves a deep void, especially for Virginia, who now carries not only the weight of loss but the financial burden of laying her husband to rest. Rita Jane Hunter, 79, of Salina, KS, passed away Saturday, July 5, 2025. She was born on April 7, 1946, in Beloit, KS, to John and Clara (Auer) Peters.

Rita J Peters was united in marriage to Jimmy M (Jim) Hunter on February 11, 1967, in Beloit KS., and they built a life in Salina KS.

To that marriage they had four children, Linda (David) Blouch, Kansas City KS, Betty Cagle, Kansas City KS, Jeana Gordon, Salina KS. And Deanna (John) Beckel, Harlan IA.

On this day she leaves behind Five grandchildren, Seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at Ryan Mortuary, Salina, with a rosary at 5:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 10, at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Salina, with burial to follow at All Saints Catholic Cemetery, Salina.&nbsp;

Rita Jane Hunter

Lynda Kay Hassler of Salina passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on June 28, 2025, at the age of 80.&nbsp; She was born on February 27, 1945, to Harold Miller and Helen (Nealy) Miller in Hope, Kansas.

Lynda attended school at Hope High School, graduating Valedictorian in 1963.&nbsp; From there, she proceeded to Manhattan and became a Wildcat at Kansas State University.&nbsp; She majored in Home Economics and graduated in 1967.&nbsp; She worked her way through college as a secretary for the Dean of Veterinary Medicine.&nbsp; She was proud to be the first one in her extended family to graduate from college.&nbsp;

She grew up on a farm gathering eggs, milking the cows, feeding the chickens and hogs, and working in the fields during harvest.&nbsp; She learned the value of hard work and the art of delayed gratification.

She and her future husband grew up in the New Basel United Church of Christ in Elmo, Kansas, and attended catechism together.&nbsp; Lynda married Randy Hassler on August 27, 1966, in the church where their story began and where they will be buried with their families. They were married for 59 years.

After graduation, the newlyweds moved to Kansas City. Lynda worked as a home economist for the gas company, putting her husband through medical school. She was active in the school’s programs and was the president of the KU Medical School Wives Club.

She brought two sons, Lance and Jason, into the world. She became a stay-at-home mother, nurturing and encouraging their development. She was proud of her sons’ accomplishments, with Lance becoming an architect and Jason becoming an MD.&nbsp; She supported her son’s tennis career and state championships.

Lynda provided steady support while raising her two young boys and keeping her intern husband awake as the family navigated numerous moves to Arizona, Texas, New Mexico, back to Texas, and finally to Florida following internships, flight surgeon school, and residency. Easy job, right?!

Finally, she made it back to Salina, Kansas, in 1979, where she became very active in the community.&nbsp; Lynda was a Boy Scout Den Mother and a member of the Coronado Area Council, where she held numerous board positions. She was a volunteer and supporter of the Smoky Hill River Festival.&nbsp; She was active in her PEO BW chapter, serving many roles, including President, and she served on many tournament committees as a member of the Salina Charities League.

Lynda was a Master Gardener, a talented seamstress and embroiderer, an accomplished cook, and one heck of a golfer.

Lynda loved her family, especially her granddaughters, Eryn, Emalie, Ruby, and Maisy. She later had great-grandchildren, Syer and Dreya.&nbsp; She couldn’t help but love and support the grandkids whom she adored.&nbsp; She attended all their sporting events, plays, recitals, art shows, competitions, and concerts. She wouldn’t miss an event even if she had to drag her husband along.

She was the glue of the family, making holidays memorable with exquisite meals, beautiful decorations, and traditions. Whether it was getting out the fancy china to serve a group of teenagers dinner before their homecoming, indulging her granddaughters with tea parties complete with squeeze cheese and Wheat Thins, or hosting an elegant family wedding in her hearth room, Lynda made her house a home where all were warmly welcomed.&nbsp;

Lynda’s life was full of love and enriched her family.&nbsp; Her life was a beautiful testimony of family and service. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her, and by her husband and partner forever.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Helen (Nealy) Miller, her brother, Steve Miller, and her son, Lance Hassler.

Lynda is survived by her husband, Randy Hassler and son Jason (Darla) Hassler, her sister, Barbara Morgan (Greg), niece, Heather Kepka, four granddaughters, Eryn (Jared) Thompson, Emalie Hassler, Ruby Hassler, and Maisy Hassler, and two great grandchildren, Syer Randy Thompson and Dreya Cole Thompson.

Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, July 25, 2025, at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N 8th St., Salina, KS.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 901 E Neal Ave, Salina, KS.

A luncheon will follow the service at the Salina County Club, 2101 E Country Club Rd, Salina, KS.

A private burial will take place at a later date.

Easy job, right?!Finally, she made it back to Salina, Kansas, in 1979, where she became very active in the community.&nbsp; Lynda was a Boy Scout Den Mother and a member of the Coronado Area Council, where she held numerous board positions. She was a volunteer and supporter of the Smoky Hill River Festival.&nbsp; She was active in her PEO BW chapter, serving many roles, including President, and she served on many tournament committees as a member of the Salina Charities League.Lynda was a Master Gardener, a talented seamstress and embroiderer, an accomplished cook, and one heck of a golfer.Lynda loved her family, especially her granddaughters, Eryn, Emalie, Ruby, and Maisy. She later had great-grandchildren, Syer and Dreya.&nbsp; She couldn’t help but love and support the grandkids whom she adored.&nbsp; She attended all their sporting events, plays, recitals, art shows, competitions, and concerts. She wouldn’t miss an event even if she had to drag her husband along.She was the glue of the family, making holidays memorable with exquisite meals, beautiful decorations, and traditions. Whether it was getting out the fancy china to serve a group of teenagers dinner before their homecoming, indulging her granddaughters with tea parties complete with squeeze cheese and Wheat Thins, or hosting an elegant family wedding in her hearth room, Lynda made her house a home where all were warmly welcomed.&nbsp;Lynda’s life was full of love and enriched her family.&nbsp; Her life was a beautiful testimony of family and service. Sherry Jo (Wolff) Brown, 78, of Salina passed away on June 29, 2025 at her home after a long battle with brain cancer.

Sherry was born May 29, 1947, at Asbury Hospital in Salina, KS. Sherry married Bruce Brown on May 26, 1989 at the Salemsborg Lutheran Church, Salemsborg, KS.

Shery is the daughter of the late Eugene Wolff and Electa Janice (Price) Wolff. She is survived by her husband, Bruce, Salina;&nbsp; brother, Tomy Wolff and sister in law, Cindy Wolff, Brookville; her brother in law, James L. Brown, Flagstaff, AZ and niece, Antjea Wolff, Pittsburg, KS.

Sherry was a 1965 graduate of Brookville High School. She attended Brown Mackie college for business as well as attending the Salina Vo-Tech for art. Later, Sherry went to work as a Secretary for Exide Battery. She then worked for the NBA Bank until she went to work for Westinghouse making light bulbs here in Salina. Sherry made it through the transition to Phillips Lighting, working 22 years. After Phillips Lighting, Sherry went back into banking, working for UMB and the Bank of Tescott before retiring. In retirement, she focused on her sewing as well as other artistic creations including numerous sewing projects for the county fair where she won many awards. She loved horses and butterflies.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday July 19, 2025 at the Ryan Mortuary, Salina. Inurnment will be in the Brookville Cemetery, Brookville, KS.

Deanna, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on July 10, 2025, at the age of 76. Her life was a testament to the power of kindness, devotion, and unwavering love. Deanna was born on November 4, 1948, in Quinter, Kansas to Clement &amp; Emma Helen (Gallagher) Ochs &amp; was raised on the farmstead in southwest Sheridan County. After high school graduation from Sheridan County High School in 1966, Deanna went on to finish her cosmetology license in Hays, Kansas. Not long after high school, Deanna married her high school sweetheart, Max Michael Kennedy on June 10, 1967. Max &amp; Deanna started their married life in Hays while Max finished his college degree then moved to Stockton, Kansas where they lived for four years before returning to the farm in Hoxie, Kansas.

Although Deanna’s greatest joys were spent with her husband raising their three children, she understood the importance of sharing her love for others too. She was a woman whose caring heart knew no limits. Whether it was helping care for an ill friend, volunteering behind the scenes in her community, or simply sending a card for every occasion, Deanna always found a way to show others how much she cared. No birthday, anniversary, or milestone went unacknowledged, and her thoughtfulness brightened countless lives.

Her love for her family was the center of her world. She rarely missed a single game or event involving her children and grandchildren. With her ever-present camera in hand, she captured precious memories, recording games and taking photos to preserve each moment. At home, she nourished her family with delicious home-cooked meals with some family favorites of chili, tacos, sloppy joes, spaghetti, brownies, cookies, homemade hot chocolate and her famous pecan pies. Thousands of harvest meals were packed with care, always complete with a mason jar of tea and each one customized with their favorite candy bar.

Punctual to a fault, she was known to be early to everything, sometimes sitting in the car honking the horn to hurry her family along. Her days were filled with simple joys: dancing and traveling with her husband, the occasional gambling trip, and many years of crushing it in their couple’s bowling league in Hoxie in the 70s &amp; 80s. The last fourteen years, mornings were spent at Oscar’s with some dear friends over a cup of iced tea.

Her community benefitted endlessly from her quiet dedication. She volunteered for Sodality, the Hospital Auxiliary, carnival &amp; ballfield concessions, backstage during plays and musicals, and serving on the SCHS/HHS Alumni Board. She even stepped on the stage of a few NEC productions many years ago. She never sought recognition—only the satisfaction of helping others and seeing her community thrive.

Deanna loved deeply and worried often, always making sure everyone was safe, happy, and cared for. She leaves behind a legacy of generosity and love that will forever inspire all who knew her. Deanna is survived by her husband, Max Kennedy, son Brad Kennedy and fiancé Crystal, Hoxie, son Scott and wife Tanya Kennedy, Hoxie, and daughter Jodi and husband Brent Rogers, Hoxie, grandchildren Ashley (Jesse) Miller, Chase (Gabi) Kennedy, Jared Kennedy, Lane (Jaiden) Kennedy, Josey Kennedy, Mercedes Kennedy, Preston Kennedy, Brookelyn Kennedy, Paiton Rogers, &amp; Kinley Rogers; and great-grandchildren, Maddi, Marcus and Jordyn Miller, Amelia and Bodie Kennedy, and Ada Kennedy; sister Carol Geerdes, brother Dan (Deb) Ochs and nieces &amp; nephews. (McPherson) Jones, age 87, died peacefully at her home in McPherson, KS on July 9, 2025.&nbsp; She was born on July 29, 1937, in rural Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma to Ona &amp; Grace (Cooper) McPherson.&nbsp; She was a 1955 graduate of Barnsdall High School, Barnsdall, Oklahoma.&nbsp; She was a resident of McPherson, KS since 2002 and lived an incredibly full and devoted life to her family.

Her marriage to Victor Enns on July 7, 1956, in Tecumseh, Oklahoma, resulted in four children who survive her: Vikki (Roger) Trimmell of McPherson, KS, K. Scott Enns of Cincinnati, OH, Betsy (Carl) Riblett of Wamego, KS, and Timothy (Angela) Enns of Wichita, KS; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Mona Ruiz of Olathe, KS; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; her siblings, Barbara French, Mary Ledsman, Ona Lewis McPherson, Jr.; husbands, Victor D. Enns and Richard Jones; and daughter-in-law, Della Hartman Enns.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, July 18, 2025, at the McPherson Cemetery with Rev. Jon Black officiating.

Frances G. (McPherson) Jones

Marc Lahr, age 85, quietly passed away on Wednesday evening, July 9, 2025, at Homestead Memory Care in Abilene, Kansas.

Marc was born on May 3, 1940, in Abilene to John Henry and Irene (Downs) Lahr. Despite the fact that Marc grew up in a farm environment, he did not have any dreams of being a farmer! Despite his allergies, Marc, helped during harvest time by driving grain trucks to town for his father. Marc graduated from Abilene High School in 1958 and as his busy school and work schedule allowed, Marc was also a great help to his brother, Jerry on his farm in Abilene.

Marc then graduated from Kansas State University in 1963 with a Bachelor of Architecture degree, and went to work at the Topeka-Shawnee County Metropolitan Planning Commission. He worked there his entire career and had risen to the position of Interim Director at the time of his retirement. During those years, Marc became very involved with historic preservation efforts and chaired Historic Topeka, as well as having chaired the Shawnee County Bicentennial Celebration and Parade. He also served on the board of the Mulvane Art Museum.

After retirement, Marc enjoyed his passion for art and antiques. He became a certified appraiser of art, antiques and furniture. Marc also owned an estate sale company and had a booth at Washburn View Antiques. He delighted in having beautiful homes and wonderful friends throughout the Topeka community. Marc moved back to Abilene in late 2019 and lived the rest of his life close to family and friends until his death.

Marc is survived by his brother, Jerry Lahr (Donna). Nephew, Jason Lahr (Annie) and their children: Isaiah Lahr (Rebecca) and son, Henry; Eli Lahr and Lydia Lahr. Brother-in-law, Dan Razak.
