George Hubert Zurmely, 93, of Chapman, Kansas passed away November 25, 2022. He was born September 25, 1929 in Detroit, Kansas to Lawrence Hubert and Alice Reba (Poor) Zurmely. 

George grew up in the Chapman area, attended the local schools and graduated from Dickinson County High School in Chapman. 

After graduating from high school he worked at the Union Pacific Railroad as a laborer. He later went on to serve in the United States Navy for three years. 

He was united in marriage to Alberta Belle Greenwood on March 4, 1955. She preceded him in death January 18, 2020.

 George worked for Ft. Riley Civil Services in the housing department and transportation. 

George is survived by his five daughters, Debora Kay Fowler; Frances Marie Baldwin; Katherine Elizabeth Zsoka; Susan Dianne Marten; and Mary Ann Cairns; and one son, George Dwight Zurmely; 17 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and two sisters, Cecilia and Frances. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m.., Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Chapman with Fr. Peter O’Donnell as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Chapman. Parish rosary will be recited Tuesday evening at the church at 5:00 p.m.., with visitation to follow. 

The family suggests memorials be given to the Wounded Warrior Foundation. Memorials may be dropped off or mailed to Londeen-Overlease Funeral Chapel, P.O .Box 411, Chapman, Kansas 67431.

Janys J. Windholz, 84, of Salina, passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at Salina Regional Health Center with her family by her side. She was born May 23, 1938, in Salina, the daughter of Harlan and Evelyn Stamm. 

Janys was a homemaker and later in life worked at Alco and Target.&nbsp; She enjoyed camping, playing bingo, animals including her cats, and watching the Kansas City Chiefs.

Janys was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Kenny; her parents; and a brother, Kenneth Stamm.

Survivors include her son Ben, and fiancé Rhonda Lambert; two daughters, Debbie (Doug) Bolen, Jolene Breeden, two granddaughters, Amber (Paul) Cooper, and Chelsey (Matt) Broeckelman, two great-grandchildren, Ella Cooper, and Brooks Cooper; two step grandchildren; six step great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Agnes Stamm.

Visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at St. Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church in Salina with a Mass of Christian Burial following at 10:30 a.m.&nbsp; Inurnment will follow at the Gypsum Hill Cemetery with a luncheon following at St. Mary’s Parish Hall.

Ruth Elaine Miller, 93, Stockton and formerly of Hays, died Saturday, November 26, 2022, at Solomon Valley Manor in Stockton.

She was born February 28, 1929, in 
Webster, the daughter of Charles J. and Eunice (Selby) McCormick.&nbsp;&nbsp;She 
was a graduate of Webster High School, and on December 11, 1947, was 
united in marriage to Charles A. “Buck” Miller in Osborne.&nbsp;&nbsp;They were 
married over 45 years before he preceded her in death on April 5, 
1993.&nbsp;&nbsp;Ruth and her husband were residents of Oakley from 1961 until 
1983 when they moved to Hays and owned and operated The Bridal Shop.&nbsp;&nbsp;In
 2011, Ruth moved to Stockton.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was a member of First United 
Methodist Church in Hays, loved her volunteer work with Hospice and the 
ARC of Central Plains, and enjoyed sewing, clothing alterations, and 
traveling.

Survivors include her son Carl Miller 
and wife Janet of Gem, daughter Rachelle Miller of Salina, four 
grandchildren: Dustin Miller, Lindsey Herndon, Joel Shuler, and Brandon 
Conrad, eight great grandchildren: Maggie Shuler, Elijah, Noah, 
Meredith, and Emma Herndon, Macy, Serenity, and Miles Shuler, three 
great-great grandchildren: Asher Shuler, William and Kristina Martin, 
and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles, and three sisters: Mabel Lowry, Neva Holcomb, and Beulah Waters.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on
 Thursday, December 1, 2022, at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 
Pine Street in Hays, with Rev. Delbert Stanton officiating.&nbsp;&nbsp;Burial will
 follow in Stockton City Cemetery.&nbsp;&nbsp;Visitation will be from 9:00 am 
until service time on Thursday at the funeral home.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Kris was born September 4, 1977, in Russell, Kansas, to Terrance Thyfault and Linda (Wolf) Thyfault. Kris graduated from Russell High School in 1996 where he participated in Football, Track and Band. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, playing cards with family, and attending his niece and nephews sporting events. Kris was a longtime employee with Universal Termite and Pest Control in Hays. Kris was well known with his customers and hard to miss because of his size. Contrary to his size Kris was known as a kind, soft spoken man who enjoyed visiting with his customers and making lasting relationships with them. Kris is survived by his father, Terry Thyfault of Topeka; his mother, Linda Thyfault of Hays; his sister, Katrina Schmidt and husband Eric and their children, Kyla and Kobe all of Hays; a grandmother, Edna Wolf Billinger (Pete) of Hays as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Kris was preceded in death by his grandparents, Kenneth and Anita Thyfault and Marcellus Wolf as well as an uncle, Rick Wolf. Funeral Services will be 10:00 AM Monday, November 28, 2022, at St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church, 2901 E. 13th, in Hays. Georgi was born on November 18, 1945, in McPherson, KS, the daughter of Harry Harold and Alice Elfredia (Wedel) Krehbiel.&nbsp; 

She graduated from Moundridge High School in 1963 and attended McPherson College.&nbsp; 

On December 19, 1964, Georgi was united in marriage to Dwayne Richard “Pete” Peterson at the Eden Mennonite Church, Moundridge.&nbsp; This union was blessed with two daughters, Rhonda and Melinda.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Survivors include: two daughters, Rhonda (Robert) Dealey of Topeka, KS and Melinda (Michael) Cochran of Yukon, OK; five grandchildren, Kristin (Michael) Lowe, Robert Dealey, Cole Cochran, Bryton Cochran, and Anna (Rhett) Bechtel; four great-grandchildren, Elena, Julia, and Nicholas Lowe and Hampton Kate Bechtel; two sisters, Kathy (Greg) Perkins of Fort Worth, TX and Barbara (Richard) Gehring of Lombard, IL; sisters-in-law, Nancy Krehbiel of McPherson, KS and Consuelo Krehbiel of Chicago, IL; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

They farmed in Exeter township in Clay County, where Harold farmed until his retirement.&nbsp;

 He married Floy Marie Davis on July 12, l939.&nbsp; They were blessed with four children.&nbsp; Beverly Floy (Hartner) Ralstin, Darlene Marie (Hartner) Strader, Ethel Rose (Hartner) Ericksen, and Forrest Harold Hartner.&nbsp; 

His wife Floy died June 21, 1982.&nbsp; Harold remarried to Arleen Neef December 6, l983.&nbsp; 

Harold and Floy built a home in Clay Center in 1960 where he lived until he and Arleen moved to the Presbyterian Manor in 2013.&nbsp; He was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church.&nbsp; 

He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter Ethel Rose Ericksen; son Forrest Hartner; sister Pearl Oelschlager and brother Harlan Hartner.

Marsha Kurz, 74, of Clay Center, died on Monday, November 21, 2022 at Advena Living of Clay Center.&nbsp; She was born on April 20, 1948 in Clay Center, the daughter of Karlton and Helen (Letourneau) Kurz.

Her father was in the military and she lived in several places in the United States and Germany.&nbsp; Her family moved back to Clay Center in 1986.&nbsp; 

Marsha worked at Big Lakes and she also worked in the laundry department at Medicalodge.&nbsp; She was a member of the Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church. &nbsp;

She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Russell Kurz.

Marsha was an avid bowler, attending many tournaments across the United States, including Reno, Nevada.&nbsp; She enjoyed watching football on television, listening to music, coloring and going out to eat.

Memorial services will be held on Monday, November 28, 2022 at 4:00 p.m. at the Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home in Clay Center, Kansas.

A private inurnment will take place at a later date in the Aurora Cemetery in Aurora, Kansas.

Tim Arthur Liby, age 68, died November 18, 2022, at the North Central Kansas Medical Center in Concordia, KS.&nbsp; He was born January 1, 1954, in Clay Center, KS to Delbert and Marian (Gunter) Liby. 

Tim grew up in rural Miltonvale and graduated from Miltonvale High School. 

He worked on the family farm all through childhood.&nbsp; When Tim was in high school, he worked for Hutchinson Mfg. and then worked for Gilmore-Tatge for 10 years after graduation as well as farmed after work. Tim later went on to work for ONEOK where he retired. 

He married his high school sweetheart Christie Boller and were very seldom away from one another. To this union two children were born. 

He was an avid hunter, fisherman and trapper. Tim also enjoyed restoration work and working in the shop, but above all else he enjoyed his time with his family, especially his grandchildren.&nbsp; 

He was a member of the NRA and a former member of the Miltonvale Methodist Church. 

He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Jim Liby.

Charles was born on May 30, 1955, in Newton, Kansas. He is the first of six children born to Richard and Thelma “Jeep” (Tallman) Edris. 

Charles graduated from Remington High School as the class of 1973. He then went on to play football for Tabor College in Hillsboro, Kansas.

 In 1977, Charles began working at Horizon Milling in Newton, Kansas and retired after 43 years of service to the flour mill.

In his free time, Charles enjoyed all things hunting and fishing, but most of all, he loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and activities.

Charles, at the age of 67, passed away on November 20, 2022, at his home in Wichita, Kansas, surrounded by his loving family.

Lela D. Chaput, age 94, long time Clifton resident, left this earthly life on Monday, November 21, 2022 surrounded by her family at the Sunset Nursing Home, Concordia, Kansas.&nbsp; She was born on October 14, 1928 in Clifton, Kansas to Joseph and Ida (Kilman) Schumock.

Lela was a graduate of Clifton High School, Clifton, Kansas.

She married Virgil G. Chaput on June 4, 1947 in Vining, Kansas. To this union three children were born, Larry, Gary and Judy. &nbsp;Virgil preceded her in death on March 30, 1998.

Lela and her daughter Judy, were co-owners of the Cardinal Café in Clifton for several years.&nbsp; Lela also worked as a cook for the Clifton Senior Citizen Center.&nbsp; She also was a wonderful babysitter for her grandchildren while they were growing up.

She was a member of the Faith United Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deacon, American Legion Women’s Aux. all of Clifton.

Lela enjoyed embroidering, reading and was an avid Jayhawk fan. &nbsp;Most of all, she loved spending time with her beloved family and friends.

She is survived by her two sons, Larry Chaput (Judy), Clifton, KS; Gary Chaput (Brenda), Leavenworth, KS; five grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, and three great-greatgrandchildren; two sisters, Lila Tiemeyer, Linn, KS; Lola Lehman, Clay Center, KS: many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Lela was preceded by her husband Virgil, daughter Judy Duggan, parents Joseph and Ida, and a brother, Richard Schumock.

Visitation will be held from 9-10:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 29, 2022 at the Faith United Presbyterian Church, 200 West St., Clifton, KS.

A memorial service will follow at 10:30 a.m., in the Faith United Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Roxie Baer officiating.&nbsp;

Fortunato Bonilla, of Salina, KS, was called to heaven Saturday November 19th, 2022, at the age of 80. He passed away surrounded by his family.

Fortunato is survived by his wife Rosemary Bonilla; children Don Bonilla (Sabrina Bonilla) of Wichita, KS, Lonnie Bonilla (Connie Bonilla) of Anchorage, AK, April Bonilla (Salvador Carrazco) of Salina, KS; grandchildren Danielle, Bree Bree, Cody, Rosemary, Linda, DeWayne, Don, Stephen, Eric, Christopher, Cody, Jacob, Eliana, Fortunato, Salvador, Gabriella, Christiana, Christian, and Noah; 13 great-grandchildren; brothers Santos Bonilla (Marlene), Rodrigo Bonilla (Vicky); and sisters-in-law Elizabeth Bonilla and Maria Bonilla, all of Salina, KS.

Fortunato was preceded in death by his parents Fortunato, Sr. and Noberta (Baeza) Bonilla; grandson Kaleb Bonilla; brothers Arcadio, Benito, Bernardo, Francisco, Joe, Joseph, Oliver, Bidal, Antonio, Guillermo, Fortino, and John; and sisters Petra Bonilla and Carmen Montoy.

Fortunato was born in Deerfield, KS on Dec. 15, 1941. 

His work career included Raytheon plant chairman, a business agent for the Machinists Union, Human Relations Commissioner, retired Master Sergeant of the U.S. Army Reserves and Desert Storm Veteran. 

He had a passion for music as he performed oldies and was the lead singer and saxophone player for his bands. His passion continued until he couldn’t perform anymore. 

He was very proud of his Mexican heritage by serving as state director of LULAC, liaison of NAACP, and state officer of American G.I. Forum.

 Fortunato enjoyed athletics playing with the Bonilla family softball team, being an avid bowler, and semi-pro football player. He then served the community by coaching the Salvation Army football team, being a supporter of the Salina Central Wrestling booster club, coaching and managing the Bonilla family softball team, and was a certified umpire. 

He was an active member of Sacred Heart Cathedral and loved spending time with his siblings and loving wife of 58 years and could always be found supporting his children and grandchildren.
