Bernice Helen Schletzbaum (Heidebrecht) was born on April 4, 1928 to Pete and Helen (Doerksen) Heidebrecht at Lake Inman, Kansas. 

Bernice lived in McPherson County all her life and graduated from McPherson High School in 1946. 

On October 17, 1959 she married Arnold L. Schletzbaum at the McPherson Church of the Brethren. Bernice and Arnold attended Monitor Church of the Brethren in Conway, Kansas for many years. 

Bernice worked as an underwriting assistant at Farmer’s Alliance Insurance company for 44 years. 

Bernice and Arnold also farmed in McPherson County. She was a member of the Kansas Society of Insurance Women, National Association of Insurance Women, and a charter member of the Insurance Women of North Central Kansas. 

Bernice enjoyed reading, crocheting, embroidery, and making quilts for each of her siblings. 

Bernice was proceeded in death by her husband Arnold, parents Pete and Helen, sisters Tillie Koehn and Sophie Neufeld, and nephew Curtis Crumpacker. 

Bernice is survived by her sisters Kate Redger and Shirley Dornberger, brother Pete Heidebrecht, and several nieces and nephews. 

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Glidden-Ediger-Wiggins Funeral Home, McPherson, Kansas. 

Visitation will be Tuesday, October 11 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. at Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home, McPherson, KS. Graveside services will be Wednesday, October 12 at 10:00 a.m. at North Inman Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 11:00 at Glidden-Ediger, McPherson, Kansas.

Steven was raised in the Longford community and was a graduate of Longford High School. 

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during Vietnam. 

Steven married Debra Copple on November 28, 1969. 

He managed the Clay Center Pizza Hut, worked at Gilmore-Tatge manufacturing, ran the Longford Gas Station and was the feed operator for Henry Farms for 20 years. 

Steven was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Douglas Cramer.

On Friday, October 7, 2022, Carolynn Dianne Henry, 76, beloved wife, mother, sister and grandmother passed away peacefully in her home. She was born May 19, 1946 in Madison, Tennessee, the daughter of Elmer and Mary Raymer. 

She was preceded in death by her parents Elmer and Mary; two brothers Roger Raymer and Danny Raymer and her son John Edward Henry III.

Carolynn grew up in Old Hickory, Tennessee with her older brothers and sister. She later moved to Kansas and attended Riley County High School. 

She met the love of her life, John Edward Henry II at the age of 17 in Junction City, KS. They were married on New Year’s Eve 1962.

She was a woman of great character, kept a quiet faith and was a caretaker and lover of people and animals her whole life. 

Family was always the most important to her and she was an amazing wife, mother and grandmother. Most who knew her would mention how sweet she was. She was fiercely private, spunky, hard working, had a joyful spirit, loved her family and had a God-given strength to endure many trials in her life. She was most proud of her family and working beside her husband, John, as the owners of Carol’s Maltese pet service and Henry Greyhound Kennels.

She will be missed by so many and is survived by her husband John E. Henry II, of the home and five children, Tammy (Mike) Scheidt, Abilene, KS, Cindy (Geoff) Withington, Russell, KS, Jim Henry, Abilene KS, Rick Henry, Enterprise, KS, Bonny (Jerrod) Keune, Abilene, KS, and sister Shirley Dearmon, Murfreesboro, Tennessee, brother Jim Raymer, Greenbriar, Tennessee. SALINA– Peggy L. Tholstrup, 89, passed into the loving arms of her Savior at Presbyterian Manor Salina on October 6, 2022. 

She was predeceased by her husband, of nearly 70 years, Delbert L. Tholstrup of Salina, her parents, Rueben and Ruth Johnson, and her brother, Donald Johnson, all of Scandia, Kansas.

Peggy is survived by her three sons, Richard (Christy) of Spring, Texas, David (Janice) of Little Mountain, South Carolina, and Spencer (Susan) of Pearland, Texas. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Nisha (Shannon) Worsham, Sean (Brittany) Tholstrup, Greta Beach, Whitney Tholstrup, Sarah (Neil) Ostenfeld, Courtney (Austin) Phillips, Caitlin (Keith) Hearon, Erin (Jared) Scallan and nine great-grandchildren. In addition, she has many nieces and nephews.

Peggy was a graduate of Scandia High School and a retired real estate agent. She loved baking and was an avid card player. Her passion in life was improving life for others. She provided camp scholarships for children to attend Camp Tomah Shinga. She was very active for many years as a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, serving as Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher and WELCA president and general secretary.

Special thanks to Belinda Rock for all the loving care she gave Peggy over many years of health challenges.

Sandy was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed painting, reading, and mostly spending time with her family.

Sandy's family and friends will gather Wednesday, October 12th from 4-7 p.m. for a viewing at Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home in Salina, Kansas.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, October 13th at 10:30 a.m. with a rosary beginning at 10 a.m. It will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Salina, Kansas. Father Keith Weber will officiate.

Burial will follow at All Saints Catholic Cemetery, Salina, Kansas.

Joy was the middle child of three daughters and attended Salina High School. Joy loved her children, grandchildren and was loved dearly by her friends and family. Survivors include Todd (Marci) Soukup of Salina, Adam Soukup of Bennington and Kate Soukup Pembleton of Salina, Kansas; grandchildren Mason, Nolan, Braden, Avah, John, Baylee, Jaida, Kynsley.

Heaven has claimed the life of Joy C. Johnson of Manhattan, KS. She was 83 years old and died peacefully on October 4, 2022 at Meadowlark Hills. She fought a battle with cancer for the last year. Joy
 was born on May 1, 1939 in Plainville, KS to Louis and Opal Hrabe. She 
was a graduate of&nbsp; Stockton High School, class of 1957. She moved to 
Manhattan, KS to attend ManhattanChristian College where she met the 
love of her life, Dennis Johnson. They were married on December 20, 
1958. Dennis and Joy raised two children, Judy Jo (1960) and 
David Duane (1961). They spent their early married years in Abilene, KS 
where Dennis worked at KP&amp;L and Joy received a bachelor’s degree 
from Marymount College in Salina, KS. Joy taught social sciences at 
Abilene High School. They also managed the King Solomon Christian Camp 
near Solomon, KS while working their jobs in Abilene. Joy was well known
 for her excellent homemade food she prepared for the campers each 
summer. The Lord called them to move to Manhattan, KS and join 
the Manhattan Christian College family. They held several job positions 
depending on the needs of the College. After the high school graduations
 of their children from Manhattan High School, Dennis and Joy moved to 
the Johnson family farm south of Abilene, KS to take care of Grandpa 
Frank and the farm. During this time, Joy enjoyed raising a few horses 
and showing them with her daughter and grandchildren. She won several 
awards on the Eastern Kansas Horseman’s Association and made many friends. Faith
 and Family were a big part of Joy’s life. She cherished her personal 
relationship with her savior, Jesus Christ. She loved studying her Bible
 and preparing Bible lessons to share with others. She also loved 
playing the piano and organ for church services. Joy was a faithful member
 of the First Christian Church in Abilene and the University Christian 
Church in Manhattan. Joy was a loving, caring grandmother who was very generous. She loved spending as much time as she could with her 
grandchildren and her great granddaughters even as she was battling cancer during the past year. Joy
 is survived by her daughter, Judy Parsons and husband, Bob of Hugoton, 
KS; sons David Johnson and wife Keiko of Manhattan and Bill Watt and 
wife, Katherine of Junction City, KS; Grandchildren Eli Gantenbein, 
Salina; Levi Gantenbein and wife Katelyn, Manhattan; Claire Johnson, 
San Diego, CA and Donny Johnson, Manhattan. Great granddaughters Emma 
and Amelia Gantenbein, Manhattan. Her sisters Betty Raney of CA and 
Phyllis Hart of Plainville; and her brother, Debert Hrabe and wife 
Jeanne of Overland Park, KS. She will be missed by her many extended family members and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Johnson; her parents; her step father, Leo Bonneau; her brother Doyal Hrabe. A
 private family celebration is being planned for the near future.

Obituary of&nbsp;Robert Wayne Cline Robert (Bobby, Bob) Wayne Cline, the son of Chester Henry Cline and Ora (Landis) Cline, was born April 05, 1928, at rural Haddam, Kansas, and passed away on October 01, 2022, at Carmen, Oklahoma, at the age of 94 years, 5 months, and 26 days. Robert grew up in the Horseshoe/Haddam communities, graduating from Haddam High School in 1946. Following high school, he helped his parents farm. &nbsp;In 1950, he joined the National Guard and served six years. &nbsp;In 1953 Robert worked in Wichita, Kansas, at Steffens Dairy. On May 02, 1954, he was united in marriage to Clara Louise Decker at the Hollenberg Methodist Church. In 1956, they returned home to farm south of Haddam, Kansas, where together, they raised four children. Robert was saved at the age of 13 and baptized into the faith. &nbsp;As an adult, he joined and attended the Brantford&nbsp;Covenant Church. &nbsp;He enjoyed the outdoors and family life. He was&nbsp;loved and will be missed by family and friends.&nbsp; Robert was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Cleo Cline, Vaughn Cline (Rosella), and Paul (Mary) Cline. He is survived by his wife Clara Cline of Carmen, Oklahoma, three sons, Wayne (Nancy) Cline of Springfield, Missouri, Jack (Cindy) Cline of West Point, New York, and Randy (Katrina) Cline of &nbsp;Kansas City, Missouri; daughter Bobbi Cline Parker of Carmen, Oklahoma; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives, and friends. JoAnn grew up in Cloud County and graduated from CCCHS in 1955.&nbsp; 

She married LeRoy Laffery in 1960 and he preceded her in death on November 6, 1980.&nbsp; 

JoAnn worked as a welder at Hutchinson Manufacturing.&nbsp; 

She later married Roger Dalton and he preceded her in death on October 15, 2008.&nbsp; She is also preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Bob and Jim Laffery; three sisters; two brothers; and daughter in-law Sherron Laffery.

Ilo’s life began on April 25, 1935, in rural Wauneta, Nebraska. She is the daughter of Frank and Florence (Adamson) Maris. 

Ilo was a graduate of Wauneta High School and was united in marriage to Wayne Mosiman on April 25, 1960, at the Eden Missionary Church in Wauneta. 

Ilo was a beloved member of the Whitewater Community Church and participated in the Missionary Circle. She enjoyed and grew in her women’s Bible study in Furley. 

Ilo decorated cakes and did lots of babysitting for area families. 

Her greatest joy was her family which includes her husband of 62 years, Wayne Mosiman of Valley Center; her children LeAnn ( Richard) Enns of Hillsboro, Lonnie (Andrea) Mosiman of Valley Center and Larry Mosiman of Bel Aire; grandchildren Colson and Allison Retherford, Mandi (Chris) Ridenour, Penny (Ryan) Foster and Sara (Austin) McAvoy; twelve great-grandchildren; her brother Leland Maris of Nebraska; and several nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

 Ilo passed away on Sunday October 2, 2022, at Wheatstate Manor in Whitewater. 

She is preceded in death by her parents, and brothers Marvin and Dale Maris. 

Her family will gather with friends on Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. at Lamb Funeral Home. Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Whitewater Community Church. She will be laid to rest in Green Valley Cemetery, Furley.

She is the daughter of Frank and Florence (Adamson) Maris. Ilo was a graduate of Wauneta High School and was united in marriage to Wayne Mosiman on April 25, 1960, at the Eden Missionary Church in Wauneta. Ilo was a beloved member of the Whitewater Community Church and participated in the Missionary Circle. She enjoyed and grew in her women’s Bible study in Furley. Ilo decorated cakes and did lots of babysitting for area families. Her greatest joy was her family which includes her husband of 62 years, Wayne Mosiman of Valley Center; her children LeAnn ( Richard) Enns of Hillsboro, Lonnie (Andrea) Mosiman of Valley Center and Larry Mosiman of Bel Aire; grandchildren Colson and Allison Retherford, Mandi (Chris) Ridenour, Penny (Ryan) Foster and Sara (Austin) McAvoy; twelve great-grandchildren; her brother Leland Maris of Nebraska; and several nieces and nephews.&nbsp; Ilo passed away on Sunday October 2, 2022, at Wheatstate Manor in Whitewater. Ilo Valjean Mosiman

Gail Jean Williams was born July 1, 1941, in Montezuma, Kansas, to 
Ralph and Flossie (Leighton) Perkins. She passed away October 4, 2022, in
 Salina, KS at the age of 81.

Gail attended high school at Hays 
High School and graduated in 1959. She went on to receive her Bachelor’s
 at Pittsburg State University and Master’s degree from Fort Hays State 
University. She was a teacher in Goodland, KS for many years but also 
taught in Pittsburg and St. Francis, KS. Gail and John David “Dave” 
Williams shared 30+ years together, then on March 18, 2006, they were 
united in marriage in Wilson, KS .

Gail was an avid reader and 
enjoyed quilting, even after losing her vision she switched to 
audiobooks and continued to quilt. She also enjoyed gardening, 
traveling, and listening to podcasts. She loved keeping in touch with 
her friends and was an animal lover. Gail was most proud of being a 
grandma. She was an active “get down on the floor and play” kind of 
grandma and loved doing experiments, playing trucks, and playing endless
 games of UNO with them.

Gail was preceded in death by her parents
 and brothers, Larry and Don Perkins. She is survived by her husband, 
Dave of Rexford, KS; children: Robert Walter of Sundance, WY, Lee (Anne)
 Walter of Everett, WA and Diane (Jason) Frazier of McPherson, KS; 
grandchildren: Callie Walter, Gavin Frazier, and Nolan Frazier, and 
sister-in-law, Wanda Perkins of Pittsburg, KS.

Memorial services 
will be held Saturday, October 15, 2022, at 11:00AM at the Rexford 
Community Church. Burial in Rexford Cemetery.

Lois Ferm, 94, of Lindsborg passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at home.  Lois was born January 16, 1928 in Halstead, KS to the late Gustav and the late Ella (Penner) Wiebe. 

 She married Landvis Ferm on January 18, 1947 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Lindsborg and was a member throughout her life.  

Lois was confirmed at the First Mennonite Church of Halstead. 

 She came to Lindsborg her senior year and graduated at Lindsborg High School. 

 When the children were all in school, she went work as a CMA at Bethany Home.



Lois was involved in many clubs and organizations including Westside Club, American Legion Post #140 Auxiliary, Johnathan Club, card club, Jolly Mixers, and Prairie Sunbonnet Doll Club.  She was also a 4-H and Girl Scout Leader.

Lois is preceded in death by her parents; husband of 73 years, Landvis E. Ferm; daughters Lana Cox and Lisa Ferm; brothers Gustav, Carl, and John Wiebe; sister Edna Lohr; and grandson Michael Wheeler.



Cremation has been chosen.  A graveside service will be held 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 23 at Smoky Hill Cemetery, Lindsborg, KS with Pastor Ben Fulton officiating.

Lois was confirmed at the First Mennonite Church of Halstead. She came to Lindsborg her senior year and graduated at Lindsborg High School. When the children were all in school, she went work as a CMA at Bethany Home.

Lois was involved in many clubs and organizations including Westside Club, American Legion Post #140 Auxiliary, Johnathan Club, card club, Jolly Mixers, and Prairie Sunbonnet Doll Club. She was also a 4-H and Girl Scout Leader.

Gerald served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War and was a member of the Holyrood American Legion Post 200 and Free Masons. 

He was a longtime banker at the Bank of Holyrood.

Gerald is survived by his wife Nadine Pauley of Holyrood; daughters Karen Pauley of Holyrood, Carol Norris of Unionville, MO, and Christina Oliver of Manassas, VA; son Gary Pauley of Claflin; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and sister Sharon Jobe of Ashland, MO.

Eldon Lorein Hoover was born on April 26, 1929 and passed away October 1, 2022 at Ascension Via&nbsp;Christi Village in Manhattan, Kansas. Eldon was the eighth of nine children born to David Breckbill&nbsp;Hoover and Susan Page Hoover on the family farm in rural Detroit, Kansas northeast of Abilene, Kansas.

Eldon grew up in the Moonlight Community and attended the Moonlight Grade School. He graduated&nbsp;from DCCHS (Dickinson County Community High School, Chapman, Kansas) in 1947. 

On October 16,&nbsp;1949 he married Nelda Marie Marts and to this union were born four children, Susan Marie, Sheryl&nbsp;Christine, Connie Jane and Steven Craig.

As a youth, Eldon attended the Bethel Brethren in Christ Church north of Detroit, Kansas and was a&nbsp;member of Sutphen Mill Christian Church, Chapman, Kansas.

Eldon farmed northwest of Chapman, Kansas for 70 years and loved farming and tending the land. He&nbsp;always said he would farm until he was 90 years of age. He was able to plant, harvest and truck his last crop of wheat to Chapman Coop Elevator in 2016 at the age of 87. He said retirement for farmers was&nbsp;farming. During his farming career, Eldon served as a board member on several farming cooperatives.

Eldon was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Susan Marie Hoover, his brothers Paul Hoover,&nbsp;Dean Hoover, Dale Hoover and Robert Hoover, his sisters Irene Hoover, Miriam Nichols, Viola Boles and Doris Larson. Also preceding him in death were his sisters-in-law, Jean Hoover, Helen Hoover and Phyllis&nbsp;Hoover; his brothers-in-law Loren Nichols, George Boles and John Larson.

Gladys S. Naylor, 104, died peacefully on Monday, May 16, 2022, at The Cedars, McPherson.&nbsp; 

She was a high school teacher, executive with Church Women United, and also was a director with the YWCA.

Gladys was born on February 5, 1918, in Navarre, Kansas, the daughter of Benjamin Hoover and Margaret (Hoffmann) Shank.&nbsp; 

On May 10, 1942, Gladys was united in marriage to Kurtis Friend Naylor in Navarre, Kansas.&nbsp; They were married 58 years before his passing on February 17, 2001.

She was a graduate of McPherson College and a member of the McPherson Church of the Brethren.

Survivors include: four daughters, Merylee Ortmayer of Lexington, Kentucky; Cherylin Peniston (W.J.) of Thornton, Colorado; Mariza Naylor of Alta Loma, California; and Illana Naylor (Richard Barrett) of Manassas, Virginia; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren: Beau Ortmayer of Chula Vista, California; Cody Ortmayer of Chula Vista, California; Erin Larkin (James Larkin) &nbsp;and Ava and Nate Larkin of Westminster, Colorado; Geoffry Tolmachoff (Brooke Tolmachoff) and Gretchen and Rhett Tolmachoff of Westminster, Colorado; Rianna Barrett (Chris Schatz) and Connor Schatz of Alexandria, Virginia; Benjamin Barrett of Manassas, Virginia; and Alisa Halferty (Ryan Halferty) and Owen and Dylan Halferty of Durham, North Carolina; and many extended family and friends.

&nbsp;Travis Jay Janssen, 43, passed away October 3, 2022. He was born October 1, 1979 to Jack and Roxanne (Hochman) Janssen in Ellsworth. 

He married Delane Poovey in Newbury, KS on August 13, 2005.&nbsp;

Travis earned his bachelor’s degree in animal science from Kansas State University and he was a member of the K-State Livestock Judging Team and Farmhouse Fraternity. He was former president of Kansas Red Angus Association, member of the Ellsworth County Fair Association, and was active in 4-H as a kid and into his adulthood with his own children. He was a rancher and horseman and a member of the Geneseo United Methodist Church.

Travis is survived by his wife Delane Janssen and children Wade, Pate, Case, and Mesa of Geneseo; parents Jack and Roxie Janssen of Geneseo; brother Ross Janssen (Jacob) of Benton; sister Sydney Shepheard (Matt) and children Jolie, Thane, and Rhett of Pomona; parents-in-law Waldo and Marilyn Poovey of Paxico; brother-in-law, Travis Poovey (Tammy) and their son Tyler of Paxico; as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins. 

He was preceded in death by his parental grandparents Willard and Lois Janssen and maternal grandparents Martin III and Edna Hochman.

Visitation: 1-8 p.m., Thursday, October 6, 2022 at Parsons Funeral Home with family present from 6-8 p.m.

Funeral service: 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 7, 2022 at Geneseo United Methodist Church with burial following in the Geneseo Cemetery.

Former Phillips County resident James M. Smith passed away at his 
home in Littleton, Colorado, on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at the age of
 74.

He was born June 14, 1948, in Holdrege, NE the son of Wayne and Luella
 (Russell) Smith. &nbsp;He was a Phillipsburg High School graduate and served
 in the United States Army.

James is survived by his two sons: Jamie Smith of Salina, Kansas and 
Chris Woerpel of Thornton, CO; brother Russell Smith of Phillipsburg; 
sisters: Marlene Peters and husband Forrest of Phillipsburg, Jeanne 
Gantz of Beloit, Mary Lasiter and husband Jim of Blairsburg, IA, and 
Linda Schurz of Phillipsburg; 8 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; and 
numerous nieces and nephews.

Cremation is planned.&nbsp; A memorial service will be at a later date.
