Evelyn Ruth Halbert, 81, passed away peacefully at home on March 3, 2023 surrounded by her family. Evelyn was born on February 14, 1942 in Newton, KS to Dennis and Alvina (Nightengale) Thomi.

She graduated from McPherson High School in 1960.

After a marriage that gave her two children, she married Darrell (Dick) Halbert in McPherson on August 7, 1982.

She worked in housekeeping at Wheat State Motel and Super 8 Hotel in McPherson and as a dietary aide at Stonecreek Manor Assisted Living in Louisville, KY.

Evelyn adored all of her grandchildren, working in her flowerbed, loved going antiquing, doted on her dog Missy, and was always doing some home improvement project. One of her favorite pastimes was playing cards and games with family and friends.

She is survived by husband Darrell, son Craig Stephens and wife Kathy, daughter Sandy (Stephens) Abell and husband David, stepdaughter Tondra (Halbert) Fry and husband Bob, stepdaughter Jacquelyn (Halbert) Cutrear and husband Blake, stepson Richard Todd Halbert, brother Charles Rhea, sister-in-law Dena Rhea, 10 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather Virgil Rhea, sister Venda Kay Rhea, and brother Curtis Rhea.

Following Evelyn's wishes, no funeral service will be held.

Memorial contributions may be made to her favorite charity, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, in care of Glidden-Ediger-Wiggins Funeral Home, 222 W. Euclid St., McPherson, KS 67546.

Family and friends will be received at 1201 Glendale Rd., McPherson, KS on Sunday, March 5 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
