
Sally Jeanette (Hull) Wiebe, born August 17, 1935, in Montezuma, KS,
passed away Thursday, March 2, 2023, after a brief illness. Sally was the
daughter of the late Dr. Amzy A. Hull and Carol (Nichols) Hull.
Sally attended the University of Iowa and transferred to Emporia
Teachers College (now Emporia State University), where she met the love
of her life, the late John Wiebe. They were married January 27, 1956, at
the Congregational Church in Emporia, KS.
Sally got her Lab Technician Certification and John graduated with a
degree in Accounting. They moved to Wichita where he started a long and
successful career with the Internal Revenue Service. John’s career path
took them from Wichita to Salina to Overland Park, and then to Derby,
KS in 1975 where they enjoyed the community and fellowship offered to
them there.
Sally was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Derby. She loved
antiques, especially dolls, and was a member of several doll clubs.
Other interests included genealogy, cooking, gardening, travel, and
interior decorating. She also enjoyed reading and writing poetry and
short stories. Sally and John enjoyed square and line dancing and were
active members of the Derby Senior Center. She loved animals, especially
her many cocker spaniels and her last dog, Bella, a spirited Havanese.
Sally’s greatest delights were her seven grandchildren, whom she loved
to entertain and spend time with.
She is survived by her children: Susan (Wiebe) Hatch (Bruce) of Dallas,
TX; Brent (Tina Todd) Wiebe of Nashville, TN; Drew Wiebe of Derby, KS;
Melissa (Wiebe) May (Greg) of Derby, KS. Grandchildren: Sylas May of
Lawrence, KS; Ada May (Thomas Benz) of Wichita; Hazel May of Wichita;
Ellis May of Derby; Joah May of Derby; Sylvan Wiebe of Dallas, TX;
Linden Wiebe of Nashville, TN; brother Amzy A. Hull Jr. “Jim” (Loretta)
Hull, of Augusta, KS, and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held Monday, March 6, from 6:00-7:00 PM at Smith
Mortuary, 1415 N. Rock Road, Derby, KS. A Rosary and Funeral Mass will
be held Tuesday, March 7, 10:00 AM/10:30 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church,
2300 E. Meadowlark Rd., Derby, KS 67037. After the service, luncheon
will be held in Knights Hall at St. Mary’s and internment will follow at
Ascension Cemetery, 1:30 PM Tues. March 7, 7200 E. 45th St., Bel Aire,
KS 67226.
