Maxine E. Girard, age 90, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the Sunset Home, Concordia, Kansas on Friday, March 3, 2023. She was born on January 17, 1933 in Clifton, Kansas to Leo and Flossie (Zimmer) Esslinger.
She graduated from Clifton High School in 1951.
She married Paul Girard at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Clifton, KS and they later divorced. He preceded her in death on Jan. 20, 2010. To this union four children were born, Greg, Diane, Kathy and Kevin.
Maxine worked as a housekeeper in private homes and local nursing homes for many years. She loved growing flowers of any kind and always had a garden and was an avid animal lover. She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Concordia.
Maxine is survived by her children Greg Girard (Florence), Concordia, KS; Diane Weaverling, Salina, KS; Kathy Thiessen (Brendon), Benton, KS and Kevin Girard, Concordia, KS; grandchildren Leslie Girard, Concordia, Evan Weaverling, Olathe, Ashley Weaverling, Wichita, Gabriel Hughes (Ashley), Newton, Erica Lee (Jeremy), Wichita, Jeremy Hughes (Jasmine), Salina & Nicholas Hughes (Megan), Dacono, CO; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Matt Esslinger, Abilene, KS and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Leo and Flossie Esslinger, four brothers, Eldon, Eugene, Kenneth, Donald Esslinger, and a sister, Berniece Schreiber.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. ~ 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 10, 2023 at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 10, 2023 at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia, Kansas with Fr. David Metz officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Clifton, Kansas.
The family suggests memorials to Maxine Girard Memorial Fund to be determined at a later time.
