Cilby L. Rogers, age 68, of Concordia, Kansas, passed away on Friday, October 14, 2022 at his residence in Concordia.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was born on June 15, 1954 in Lee’s Summit, Missouri to Richard Lee and Nancy Louise (Pemberton) Rogers.

Cilby grew up and attended school in the Lee’s Summit area.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He worked for the city of Lee’s Summit for twenty plus years as a heavy equipment operator for the city water department.&nbsp;&nbsp;He moved to Concordia, Kansas in 2010 to be closer to his daughter and grandchildren.&nbsp;&nbsp;He worked as an employment specialist for OCCK, Inc. in Concordia until he retired in 2018.

Cilby loved the outdoors and was a craftsman whp enjoyed woodcarving, tanning hides and general tinkering.&nbsp;&nbsp;He loved all things nature and was in his element when able to enjoy the beauty of the outdoors.

He is survived by his daughter Lindy (Tony) Meyer, Concordia, KS; grandchildren George (Emily) Meyer, Isaac Meyer, Erin (fiancé Joseph Walter) Meyer, Laura Meyer, Elizabeth Meyer, Clare Meyer and Mary Meyer; sisters Ramona Leighter, Independence, MO, Patty (Danny) Hahn, Adrian, MO, Annie Stadler, Blue Springs, MO and Bonnie (Jerry) Blankenship, Bates City, MO, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Yolinda Rogers.

It was Cilby’s wishes to be cremated and the family will have a family burial of the cremains at the Sni-Mills Holiness Cemetery, Lone Jack, MO on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at 11:00 a.m.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Kenneth R. Pyke, 93, of Abilene, passed away Saturday, October 15, 2022 at Memorial Hospital in Abilene. He was born September 11, 1929 in Abilene, Kansas, the son of Roy W. and Ruth K. (Gish) Pyke. 

Kenny grew up in Abilene, attended the Abilene school districts and graduated from Abilene High School. 

On October 28, 1951, he was united in marriage to Carole L. Allison in Wichita, Kansas. 

He enlisted in the United States Army in 1951, serving two years in the 11th Airborne stationed in Ft. Campbell. 

He was the manager at A&amp;P Grocery and later worked as an assistant team leader at Duckwalls. He was a member of the Abilene First Christian Church in Abilene, and was a member of the Eisenhower Foundation and the Dickinson County Historical Society. 

Kenny is survived by two daughters-in-law, Dianne (Wood) Pyke of Springfield, Missouri and Kathleen (Newlin) Pyke of Hays, Kansas; grandchildren Amanda (Pyke) Brantley (Stuart); Christopher Pyke; and Scott Pyke; great-grandchildren Cobie, Coltin, and Ryker Pyke; sister-in-law Barbara Pyke; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, loving wife Carole, two sons, Thomas Pyke and Dale Pyke, and a brother, Ralph Pyke. 

Funeral services for Kenny will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at the Abilene First Christian Church with Pastor Jason Kohler officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery, rural Abilene. Family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home of Abilene.

Ronnie Hanschu, 72 of Ramona, passed away October 15, 2022 at Salem Nursing Home in Hillsboro. He was born February 17, 1950 in Herington, Kansas, the son of Wilbur and Burma (Schlesener) Hanschu. 

He went to school at Ramona Grade School and graduated from Centre High School. 

He was baptized and confirmed at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Ramona. Ronnie is survived by his loving wife Lisa of the home; his mother Burma Hanschu; four daughters, Sommer Durante, Stephanie Keller and husband Chad, Dr. Melissa House and husband Jon, and Anna Weber and friend Austin Johnson; stepson Gordon Hunicutt and wife Sarah; and one brother, Rick Hanschu and wife Barb;&nbsp;his family, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and so many who loved and admired him.

He was preceded in death by his dad Wilbur, a brother, Rory Hanschu, and a son, James Weber. The family has chosen cremation.

A Celebration of Life Service for Ronnie will be at his homestead, (3510 Sunflower, Ramona, Kansas 67475) 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 22. Casual attire and services as Ronnie would want it. A lunch will follow at the parish hall in Ramona, KS. His ashes will be scattered on the farm and an inurnment will take place at later time at Lewis Cemetery, next to his son James. There will be no visitation but family will receive guests prior to services. Ronnie lived his life as a farmer/rancher working long hours on his acres and in his custom businesses. He was known for his ornery smile and quick sense of humor. He loved giving people a hard time and he was always ready with a good comeback. He dedicated his life to farming, working the ground and caring for livestock. He was a distributor for Archer Oil for over 30 years and he served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He was a source of strength for Lisa. Life was not always easy, but the love they shared always endured beyond any obstacles they faced. It was the sound of his diesel truck coming up the driveway that always made her know that everything would be ok. His love and companionship will be deeply missed by her. The family suggests memorials be made out to Lisa Hanschu to be used for the James Weber Memorial Scholarship or donor’s choice. She worked for many years at Hutchinson Community College and enjoyed countless adventures with her husband and their RV club.

Betty was also a member of the Hutchinson First United Methodist Church and was active with the United Women in Faith.

Betty is survived by her husband of 67 years, Bill Davis; children Carol Bossemeyer (John), Cheryl Dunham (Tim), and Mike Davis (Evelyn), five grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.

Mary Elvina (Armstrong) Laas&nbsp;passed away October 14, 2022.&nbsp; Mary was born February 22, 1928, in Gypsum, Kansas to Robert Armstrong and Ruth (Mortimer) Armstrong.&nbsp; 

She was united in marriage to Elmer Fred Laas on November 9, 1947.&nbsp; They spent their married life farming near Brookville, Kansas.

Mary was the oldest of 10 children and never met a stranger.&nbsp; In addition to helping with the farm and raising five children, she worked at the Brookville Hotel for 43 years, both as a waitress and a hostess. &nbsp;

Mary is survived by her children Anita Phye (Fred), Larry, Becky Senger, Carol Augustine (David Simmons) and Doug (Renee); siblings Jennie George, Betty Harden, Charlene Walker, Robert Armstrong and Joe Armstrong, 11 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years; daughter in law Cheryl Laas, sons-in-law Dale Augustine and David Senger; siblings Elaine Bacon, Shirley Clanton, Fern Bledsoe, and Kay Lebert.

Visitation will be held at Ryan Mortuary in Salina from 4 to 8 p.m. with family present from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, October 19.&nbsp; Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 20 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Salina. Burial will follow at Bavaria Cemetery. &nbsp;

Memorials are designated to Ell-Saline USD 307, Bavaria Cemetery or to the donor’s choice.

Laura Marie Johnson was born on August 30, 1942, in Franklin, Nebraska, the daughter of William Henry &amp; Margaret Ann (Pate) Ormsbee. She passed away on September 22, 2022, in Belleville, Kansas, at the age of 80 years and 23 days.

Laura was united in marriage to Jerald H. Johnson on February 23, 1963, and to this union, one son was born. 

Jerald and Laura lived in Oregon for many years, before relocating to Belleville in the early 2000s.

 Laura enjoyed taking care of her home, fishing and crocheting.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Jerald in 2017, brothers Ronald and Ray, and sister Tammy.

Laura is survived by her son Michael Johnson of Christmas Tree Valley, Oregon; brother Keith Ormsbee of Mankato, brother William Ormsbee, sister Cheryl Wryck and her husband Greg, other family and friends.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, October 15, 2022, at 2:00 p.m., at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Belleville. The memorial talk will be given by Charles Novak.

Fern helped Marvin in the family business and also did part-time work and volunteering. Family was very important to her.

MINNEAPOLIS - It is with heavy hearts we announce the unexpected passing of Tyson Allan Robb, 19, on October 4, 2022. He was born December 2, 2002, in Salina, Kan.

Tyson had a smile that would light up the room. That light will remain to hold us in our darkness. He had a gentle and giving heart. He loved his family above all. He would find peace driving and listening to music or sitting by his dad’s pond. Tyson loved pondering the meaning of life and telling bad jokes. He aspired to be a mechanic and hoped to return to school. Tyson’s beautiful soul will live on in all of us.

He is survived by his mother, Keri Base, of Minneapolis, Kan.; father and stepmother, Mark and Stacey Robb, of rural Salina; brother Jaxson Schooley; stepbrother Brandon Hall; sisters Claire Base, Trinity Robb, and Maddison Robb; grandparents Gary and Sue Base, of Niles, Kan., Jim and Trish Robb, of Danville, Kan., and Carol and Harold Dinkel, of Ellis, Kan.; uncles Dan Base (Mary Ann), of rural Solomon, Kan., and John Robb (Audra), of rural Salina; aunts Lori Eslinger (Toby), and Paula Hicks (Shawn), both of Harper, Kan.; and many cousins and friends.

MENTOR - Bernice Irene (Timbers) Lilly, 96, passed away October 11, 2022 at her home in Mentor, Kan., surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 4, 1926 in rural Glen Elder, Kan., to Dwight A. Timbers and Ethel O. (Margreiter) Timbers.

 She was united in marriage to C. Keith Lilly on February 14, 1948. They moved from Salina to Mentor and lovingly raised their six children.

She was an amazing wife, mother, homemaker, and cook. She continued her delicious weekly Sunday dinners for her ever-expanding family until she was nearly 90 years old. She loved and doted on her 17 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren.

Bernice is survived by her children Sharon Chaput (Dennis) of Granger, Ind., Linda Lilly (daughter-in-law) of Salina, Dwight (Sue) of Mentor, Susan Johnson (Mark) of Salina, Shirley Sundgren (Don) of Salina, and Sandra Seim Johnson (Kurtis) of Salina; sisters Bernita Eberle of Glen Elder, and Berta Moss (Dan) of Salina; 17 grandchildren; and 41 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband Keith; son David Lilly; granddaughter Mindy Reese; son-in-law Larry Seim; and siblings Robert, Betty, Roy (Dot), Bonnie Newell (Bob), and Bill Eberle.

A private family graveside service will be at St. Paul’s Cemetery, near Kipp, Kan., at a later date.

Jerald O. Peterson, 91, of Salina, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2022.

Jerald was born in Bennington, Kansas on July 31, 1931, son of Helen (Geske) and Alfred Peterson.

Survivors include his wife Shirley (Cline, Gans), Salina; son Jerald Robert (Iris-Rusty) of Rose Hill, Kansas; son Richard (Diane) of Waxahatchie, Texas; stepson Gary Gans of Bennington; stepdaughter Debbie Berigan of Salina; seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Jerald was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Margaret (Grogg), his sister Beatrice Shepard, his son Randel and his grandson Scott.

Jerald was retired from SW Bell as lineman and manager, and Girl Scouts as property manager.

Jerald was in the Masonic Lodge, Shriners, and Scottish Rite.

Marthe Therese' Shafer, 87, Salina, passed on to her heavenly home on Tuesday October 11, 2022, surrounded by her family.

Marthe was born on May 2, 1935, in La Rochelle, France to Gottlieb and Agnes Misch. 

At the age of three, World War II swept across Europe, and shortly after the path of Marthe’s life would be forever changed. Marthe’s parents had immigrated to France from Poland in the 1920s. Her father was unfortunately a victim of the Nazi invasion into France and presumed deported to most likely the Dachau concentration camp, never to be heard from again.&nbsp; After her father was deported, Marthe’s mother suffered an unknown illness causing her to be bedridden, and she lived out the remainder of her short life in a nursing home. Marthe and her two older sisters were taken in by a local orphanage, ran by the Sisters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul.

Marthe loved to talk about her life in France. As her short-term memory faded in the last few years, her memories of her childhood and France were more vivid than ever. In 1940, the Germans invaded her small, picturesque port town of La Rochelle, which was also the very last town liberated in France at the end of the war in 1945. She would recount the memory of hearing the Nazi soldiers marching and the sound their boots made hitting the ground. They had little food as the German army took every bit of sustenance they could, leaving the residents to starve. She was most afraid of the dark and being left alone. She recalled being terrified as a small child when the sirens would blare with incoming air raids. The orphans were taken to shelter in the darkness of the cellar until the sirens would subside. When the fighting became too severe to remain there, the orphanage was moved about 60 miles into France, which she recalled as being a welcome change. There she discovered her love for nature and having fresh fruit and vegetables from the garden they grew. Within a week of leaving La Rochelle, the orphanage she was living in was bombed, and when they returned at the end of the war, it was a pile of rubble. She also recounted narrowly escaping certain death when the Nazi’s came to her orphanage to take away all the children of Polish and Jewish heritage. The nuns changed her paperwork disguising her name, and she hid in the cellar with her two sisters until they left.

At the age of 16, she graduated from the orphanage with the clothes on her back, and a small amount of money in her hand. She spent many of those first nights scared and alone, sleeping on benches at the park or local train station. She eventually found her first job as a live-in nanny and housekeeper, giving her a roof over her head, a warm bed, and plenty of food.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Marthe met and went on to marry her first husband, James, an American soldier stationed in her town, and together they had nine children. At the age of 22, she set out on her first big adventure to travel across the ocean aboard the Queen Mary, to start a new life in America. Her name can be found among the tens of millions of immigrants at Ellis Island today.

She knew little English as she settled into her new home, and she loved to tell everyone that she learned to speak English from watching “I Love Lucy” on television. She lived on numerous military bases around the world, including Germany, France, Alabama, Virginia, Maryland, Hawaii, Washington, North Carolina, Ft. Riley, and finally Schilling Air Force Base in Salina, KS.

Her husband James, passed away after serving two tours in Vietnam, and suffering from Agent Orange complications.&nbsp; She met her second husband Dale, while working as a housekeeper at the Howard Johnson Motel, and together they had two daughters.

Marthe would say the biggest accomplishments in her life were being able to travel and see the world and becoming a mother to eleven children whom she loved with her whole heart. She lived a simple life, never having wealth, but giving generously to anyone in need including strangers, and thanking God for being by her side every moment of her life. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy of 80 descendants at this time, and she will be remembered dearly by those of us who knew and loved her.

Marthe was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Agnes and Alfreda, her husband James Shafer, and her eldest son Dr. James Shafer.

She is survived by her husband Dale Barras, and her children&nbsp; Beatriz “Betty” Cory (Roger) Corpus Christi, Texas; Steve Shafer, Texas; Anthony “Tony” Shafer, Salina; Sylvia Senecal, Salina; Phillip Shafer, Kansas City; Francine Climer, Salina; Michael Shafer (Aimee), Minneapolis, KS; Robert Shafer, Missouri; Monique Herbel (Kurt), Salina; and Claudale Arterburn (Brian), Wichita.&nbsp; Marthe is also survived by 29 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 15th, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Ryan Mortuary. The service will also be streamed on Facebook Live. Burial will follow at Gypsum Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday, October 14th, 2022, from 4 to 7 p.m. with family present from 5 to 7 p.m.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;

Joanne Marie Barton, 84, Hays, died Thursday, October 13, 2022, at Via Christi Village surrounded by family.

She was born January 1, 1938, in Hays, 
the daughter of George and Angela (Staab) Koerner.&nbsp; On July 13, 1957, she
 was united in marriage to Jerry M. Barton in Russell and they 
celebrated over 47 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on 
November 9, 2004.&nbsp; Joanne was a homemaker raising her family in Dorrance
 for many years and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in 
Dorrance.&nbsp; After moving to Hays, she attended mass at numerous churches 
often accompanied by her sister Janet.&nbsp; She loved to read, enjoyed 
cooking and baking, her brownies with walnuts being a family favorite.&nbsp; 
She was a K-State fan, enjoyed garage sales, loved chocolate and 
attending all of her children’s sporting events.&nbsp; &nbsp;Joanne was a great 
mom and as much as her children and grandchildren loved her, she loved 
them more.

Survivors include two sons: Theron 
Barton and wife Vicki of Shawnee, Jerry Barton and girlfriend Debbie 
Fabian of Russell, two daughters: JoLana Schumacher and husband Bruce of
 Lakewood, CO and Melody Giebler and husband Mike of Littleton, CO, 
three brothers: Jim Koerner and wife Arlis, Danny Koerner and 
significant other Diane, and Robert “Rocky” Koerner and wife Janet, all 
of Hays, four sisters: Carol Hustead of Hays, Judy Dreher and husband 
Don of Hays, Marlene Dyke and husband Bob of Miami, OK, and Linda 
Hammerschmidt and husband George of Victoria, two brothers-in-law: Ron 
Hamel of Plainville and Rodney Barton and wife Vera of Long Beach, CA, a
 sister-in-law: Jean Koerner of Hays, eight grandchildren: Christopher 
Giebler and fiancé Angelica, Lindsay Giebler and husband JT Mengel, Jodi
 and Jordan Elam, and Peyton, Presley, Muunjiza and Tavia Barton, two 
great grandchildren: Castiel and Catalina Giebler, and numerous nieces 
and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her 
parents, husband Jerry, three brothers: Arlen, Kenny, and Melvin 
Koerner, three sisters: Mary Lou Hamel, Rosalyn “Rosie” Koerner, and 
Janet Batman, and a brother-in-law: Roy Hustead.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 
10:00 am on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic 
Church, Munjor with Fr. Damian Richards officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow
 in St. Francis Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on
 Monday and from 9:00 am until 9:40 on Tuesday, all at Hays Memorial 
Chapel Funeral Home.&nbsp; A vigil service will be at 6:30 pm on Monday at 
the funeral home.&nbsp;

 for many years and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in 
Dorrance.&nbsp; After moving to Hays, she attended mass at numerous churches 
often accompanied by her sister Janet.&nbsp; She loved to read, enjoyed 
cooking and baking, her brownies with walnuts being a family favorite.&nbsp; 
She was a K-State fan, enjoyed garage sales, loved chocolate and 
attending all of her children’s sporting events.&nbsp; &nbsp;Joanne was a great 
mom and as much as her children and grandchildren loved her, she loved 
them more.Survivors include two sons: Theron 
Barton and wife Vicki of Shawnee, Jerry Barton and girlfriend Debbie 
Fabian of Russell, two daughters: JoLana Schumacher and husband Bruce of
 Lakewood, CO and Melody Giebler and husband Mike of Littleton, CO, 
three brothers: Jim Koerner and wife Arlis, Danny Koerner and 
significant other Diane, and Robert “Rocky” Koerner and wife Janet, all 
of Hays, four sisters: Carol Hustead of Hays, Judy Dreher and husband 
Don of Hays, Marlene Dyke and husband Bob of Miami, OK, and Linda 
Hammerschmidt and husband George of Victoria, two brothers-in-law: Ron 
Hamel of Plainville and Rodney Barton and wife Vera of Long Beach, CA, a
 sister-in-law: Jean Koerner of Hays, eight grandchildren: Christopher 
Giebler and fiancé Angelica, Lindsay Giebler and husband JT Mengel, Jodi
 and Jordan Elam, and Peyton, Presley, Muunjiza and Tavia Barton, two 
great grandchildren: Castiel and Catalina Giebler, and numerous nieces 
and nephews.She was preceded in death by her 
parents, husband Jerry, three brothers: Arlen, Kenny, and Melvin 
Koerner, three sisters: Mary Lou Hamel, Rosalyn “Rosie” Koerner, and 
Janet Batman, and a brother-in-law: Roy Hustead.Mass of Christian Burial will be at 
10:00 am on Tuesday, October 18, 2022, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic 
Church, Munjor with Fr. Damian Richards officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow
 in St. Francis Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on
 Monday and from 9:00 am until 9:40 on Tuesday, all at Hays Memorial 
Chapel Funeral Home.&nbsp; A vigil service will be at 6:30 pm on Monday at

Joanne Marie Barton

Chase Garrett Ehlers, the son of Ted and Marcia (Dunn) Ehlers, was 
born on June 12, 1996 in Honolulu, Hawaii. He passed away on October 10,
 2022 at Manhattan, Kansas at the age of 26 years, 3 months, 28 days.

Chase was baptized in the Webber United Methodist Church. 
Growing up, Chase attended many schools including Mt. View Elementary in
 Mt. View, Hawaii; North Polk Elementary School in Fort Polk, Louisiana;
 Stowers Elementary in Fort Benning, Georgia; Chapman Middle School in 
Chapman, Kansas and was a graduate of Lawrence/Nelson High School in 
Nelson, Nebraska. After graduating he attended the University of 
Nebraska for a time before enlisting in the United States Army on June 
22, 2015 earning the National Defense service medal and Army service 
Ribbon. Chase was honorably discharged on December 20, 2017 and 
continued his education at the Kansas State University where he 
presently was enrolled.

Throughout Chase’s life, he lived in the communities of Helemano,
 HI, Fort Benning, GA, Mountain View, HI, Fort Polk, LA, Chapman, KS, 
Nelson, NE, presently living in Manhattan, KS.

Chase was preceded in death by his grandparents Duane and Pat 
Ehlers. Survivors include his parents Ted and Marcia and his brother 
Nash all of Chapman, Kansas; grandparents Don and Ardythe Dunn of 
Deshler, Nebraska and Paul and Linda Hutchinson of Superior, Nebraska; 
Aunts and Uncles Melanie and Ryan Mikkelsen of Ruskin, Nebraska; Tanya 
and Brandon Lynch of Raymond, Nebraska; Michelle &amp; Greg Perkins of 
Reeds Spring, Missouri; Dawn and Larry Miller of Nelson, Nebraska; Brian
 and Sharon Soulek of Charlestown, Indiana; Devrie and Brian Hahn of 
Dallas, Texas; Ty and Michelle Ehlers of Norfolk, Virginia; John and 
Kathy Ehlers of Octavia, Nebraska; Dawn Griffith and Sally and John 
Kramar of Schuyler, Nebraska; numerous cousins, other relatives and a
