Matthew “Mat” Dean Ayers, 40, of McPherson, KS, passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson, KS.&nbsp;

He was born on March 4, 1983, in Pella, IA, the son of Dean Edward and Beverly Sue (Rouw) Ayers.&nbsp; He graduated from Twin Cedars High School (Bussey, IA) in 2002 and from McPherson College in 2007.&nbsp; He continued his education at Bethany Seminary in Richmond, IN.&nbsp; On June 6, 2009, Mat was united in marriage to Emily Elizabeth Flora in Quinter, KS.&nbsp; This union was blessed with four children, Veda, Dane, Everly, and Logan.

Mat was a light inspection trainer at Pfizer and worked part-time at Three Rings Brewery, both in McPherson.

Mat was a member of the McPherson Church of the Brethren.

Survivors include: his loving wife, Emily, and three children, Veda, Dane, and Everly, all of the home; parents, Dean and Beverly Ayers of Knoxville, IA; sister Dana Cockrell (Chance) of Bussey, IA; grandfathers, John Ayers of Apache Junction, AZ and Marvin Rouw of Pella, IA; father-in-law, Sam Flora (Melinda Howard) of Quinter, KS; brothers &amp; sisters-in-law, Tyler Flora (Whitney) of Richmond, TX, Ryan Flora (Natasha) of Quinter, KS, Abbie Flora of Quinter, KS; Kadyn Fuller (Alana) of Park, KS and Colton Fuller of Minneapolis, KS; nieces &amp; nephews, Isaiah Cockrell, Jacob &amp; Anna Flora, Hadley &amp; Megan Flora, and Brooklyn Fuller; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family &amp; friends.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Logan Dean Ayers; mother-in-law, Janelle Huber; stepmother-in-law, Glenda Flora; brother-in-law, Ethan Flora; and grandmothers, Sarah Ayers and Bonnie Rouw.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, May 22, 2023, at the McPherson Church of the Brethren.&nbsp;

David Braun of Tipton died May 14, 2023. He was born May 13, 1949.

David Braun

Marilyn (Baumfalk) Rieke went home May 13th, 2023, at the age of 86.&nbsp; She was born in Beatrice, Nebraska, on February 20, 1937. She enjoyed growing up with her five cherished siblings and her parents Mary (Vliet) and Albert Baumfalk and loved to share memories of those fun times with her loving family.

She married Duane Rieke on December 22, 1957, and they built a strong family who moved about between different towns in Oklahoma, Nebraska, and Kansas.&nbsp; She loved helping people and was a teacher in rural Gage County, NE.&nbsp; After being a stay-at-home-mom, she became an LPN and was a nurse in Hoxie, Belleville, and Manhattan, KS and Beatrice, NE.

A gifted quilter and friend to all, she loved seeing the flowers bloom in the springtime.&nbsp; Both she and Duane were avid readers and Marilyn shared the love of reading to her grandchildren, taking them to the library for the young children’s reading time.&nbsp; Marilyn was a woman of deep faith and was very active in her church (American Lutheran Church). She also was active in the greater community.&nbsp; She volunteered at church and was an active volunteer at the Belleville Library. She volunteered on the Rec Bus taking children to the library. Marilyn was awarded Volunteer of the Year for the Belleville Library.

She loved to watch the Wildcats, and Royals. She was also a doting and proud grandma.&nbsp; Her favorite job was enjoying watching her grandkids participate in various sporting, artistic, and academic endeavors.&nbsp;

Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband Duane, parents Mary and Albert Baumfalk, sister Joyce Gross, brother-in-law Ed Gross, and brother-in-law Joe Colombo. She leaves behind four children, Lora Rieke of Belleville, Ann (Chad) Leabo of Kansas City, MO, Dan (Kate) Rieke of Lenexa, KS, and Daryl (Kay) Rieke of Belleville. She also leaves behind six beloved grandchildren, Grace, Daniel, Sarah, Sophia, Jack, and Olivia, as well as treasured siblings, Janet Colombo of Bozeman, MT, Mike (Marsha) Baumfalk of Beatrice, Pat (Deb) Baumfalk of Lincoln, Liz (Bruce) Daubendiek of Pickrell, NE and many beloved nieces and nephews across the nation.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 30th, 2023, from Noon to 7 p.m. at Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home, Belleville, KS.&nbsp; The family will receive well-wishers from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 31st, at American Lutheran Church in Belleville, with internment at the Chester Cemetery in Chester, NE.&nbsp; Lunch will be at the church following the internment.

Velma (Burger) Lang, age 102, died May 17, 2023, at the Presbyterian Manor in Clay Center, KS. She was born March 15, 1921, in Clay County Kansas, the daughter of John and Alma (Damkroger) Burger. She graduated from Clay Center Community High School in 1939. On March 15, 1941, she married Roy Fowles. He was KIA in WWII. On November 14, 1946, she married Rex Lang in Mission, KS.&nbsp;&nbsp;They farmed until 1965, then moved to Clay Center.&nbsp;&nbsp;Rex preceded her in death on February 12, 2003.&nbsp;&nbsp;Velma had worked as a nurses aide and retired as District Secretary from the SCS office.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Velma is preceded in death by her husbands, parents; sister, Marie Cain; brothers, Raymond, Robert, and Alfred Burger; sister-in-law, Shirley Merritt; and brother-in-law, Paul Lang.&nbsp;Survivors include, one daughter, Beverly Lang of Clay Center; one son, Douglas (Linda) Fowles of Clay Center; one granddaughter, Jody (Mark) Havice; great granddaughters, Haylee and Kinsey Havice all of Wamego; sisters-in-law’s, Pauline and Irma Burger of Clay Center, Marjorie Anthony of Florida, and Helen Brunker of Overland Park.

Velma (Burger) Lang

Delores was born on April 24, 1941, in Enid, Oklahoma. She is the daughter of Julius and Martha (Rempel) Penner. Delores attended school in Hillsboro until her senior year when her family moved to Wichita. She graduated from Wichita North High School. She attended both Friends University and Tabor College while studying for a Math Degree. Delores married John Foster Dalke on May 12, 1962, at First Mennonite Brethren Church, Wichita, KS, and together, with their three children; they made a home in Hillsboro, KS.

Delores was very involved in her community. She was Mayor of Hillsboro for 27 years, President of the Hillsboro Chamber, and sat on the Hillsboro City Council. Delores started the Real Estate Center in 1978 and in 1986, she was a founding member of the Hillsboro Community Foundation. Delores was also the 2003 President of the Kansas Association of Realtors.

Delores was a strong member of the Ebenfeld Mennonite Brethren Church, where she acted as the church treasurer. She participated in Bible School and was a Sunday School teacher. Delores loved to stay busy and involved in the community, but she never let that get in the way of her family. Delores could be found spending time with her children and grandchildren, and never missed a sporting event or school activity. She was a great, self-taught cook and always made sure everyone had plenty of food.

Delores’ greatest joy was her loving family which includes her sons: Mark (Pat) Dalke of Hillsboro, Matt (Jamey) Dalke of Chapman; grandchildren: Tyler Dalke, Reagan Dalke; step grandchildren: Ashley Thornhill, Mike Massari; and brother: Ray Penner, Valley Center. She is preceded in death by her husband: John; parents: Julius and Martha, son: John, and sister: Karen Penner.

Delores, at the age of 82, passed away and was reunited with her husband on their 61st&nbsp;wedding anniversary on May 12, 2023, at the Hillsboro Community Hospital. Delores (Penner) Dalke

Timothy Lee Standridge left this life on May 12, 2023, after suffering a long illness.&nbsp; He is survived by his wife Paula (Kasten) Standridge, daughter Tamara Dahlstead of Illinois and son Tanis Miller of Kansas; stepsons Ron Rindt of Dover, Kansas, Ryan Rindt of Topeka, Kansas; his father Kent “Sonny” Standridge of Yuma, AZ and stepbrothers Brian Standridge of North Dakota, Aaron Poynter of Montana, and stepsister Kristy Standridge of North Dakota.&nbsp; Tim was born on January 17, 1972, in Lander, Wyoming to Kenton J. and Ellen O. (Alexander) Standridge.&nbsp; He was a 1994 graduate of Riverton High School in Riverton, WY and attended college at Dull Knife Community College.&nbsp; Tim completed training to become a certified Nursing Assistant and spent the rest of his life taking care of the elderly and disabled, displaying a gift of kindness and compassion that made him loved by those he cared for and respected by those he worked with.&nbsp; He had worked as a CNA in Herington, White River, SD, the VA in Topeka and for the last six years at Diversicare of Council Grove.&nbsp; Tim was united in marriage to Paula Kasten on July 20. 2022 and they made Latimer their home for the last seven years.&nbsp; Tim had several hobbies, but his favorite pastime was spending time with his friends and watching stand up comedy on TV.&nbsp; He left a massive collection of miniature cars which he refinished and kept on display, a collection of knives and had begun to design and paint beverage tumblers.&nbsp; He frequently watched historic programs on Christianity and the Bible and was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church where he would attend church when he wasn’t working.&nbsp; He will leave a void that can never be filled in the lives of all who knew him and worked with him and now Tim resides with his Heavenly Father and his family in his new Heavenly home.&nbsp; A celebration of Tim’s life will be held on June 9, 2023, at the Latimer Cemetery at 11 a.m. led by Pastor King Crawford.&nbsp; Yazel Megli Funeral Home, Herington is serving the family.&nbsp; Memorial contributions in Tim’s name may be directed to the Valley Hope Foundation and left in care of the funeral home.&nbsp; Please sign his online guestbook and leave a memory of Tim at&nbsp;<a href="http://www.yazelmeglifh.com/">www.yazelmeglifh.com</a>.&nbsp;&nbsp;

(Alexander) Standridge.&nbsp; He was a 1994 graduate of Riverton High School in Riverton, WY and attended college at Dull Knife Community College.&nbsp; Tim completed training to become a certified Nursing Assistant and spent the rest of his life taking care of the elderly and disabled, displaying a gift of kindness and compassion that made him loved by those he cared for and respected by those he worked with.&nbsp; He had worked as a CNA in Herington, White River, SD, the VA in Topeka and for the last six years at Diversicare of Council Grove.&nbsp; Tim was united in marriage to Paula Kasten on July 20. 2022 and they made Latimer their home for the last seven years.&nbsp; Tim had several hobbies, but his favorite pastime was spending time with his friends and watching stand up comedy on TV.&nbsp; He left a massive collection of miniature cars which he refinished and kept on display, a collection of knives and had begun to design and paint beverage tumblers.&nbsp; He frequently watched historic programs on Christianity and the Bible and was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church where he would attend church when he wasn’t working.&nbsp; He will leave a void that can never be filled in the lives of all who knew him and worked with him and now Tim resides with his Heavenly Father and his family in his new Heavenly home.&nbsp; A celebration of Tim’s life will be held on June 9, 2023, at the Latimer Cemetery at 11 a.m. led by Pastor King Crawford.&nbsp; Yazel Megli Funeral Home, Herington is serving the family.&nbsp; Memorial contributions in Tim’s name may be directed to the Valley Hope Foundation and left in care of the funeral home.&nbsp; Please sign his online guestbook and leave a memory of Tim at&nbsp;<a href="http://www.yazelmeglifh.com/">www.yazelmeglifh.com</a>.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Christine Louise Hudson, 74, of McPherson, KS, went to heaven to meet Jesus Wednesday, May 17, 2023, in Lindsborg, KS, after battling with cancer.&nbsp; She was born January 13, 1949, in Great Bend, KS, the daughter of Eldon and Dorothy (Ade) Folmnsbee.&nbsp; She graduated high school from Great Bend, KS and college from Fort Hays State University with her teaching degree.

While in college, she met her husband, Thomas (Tom) Eugene Hudson, and married him on August 30, 1969.&nbsp; During their wonderful 53 years of marriage, Christine and Tom had four children and lived in many towns all over Kansas while working in education.&nbsp; Christine taught preschool, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, middle school, and ended her career as a reading tutor when they came to retire in McPherson.&nbsp; Teaching came natural to Christine.&nbsp; She was always the patient and kind teacher who loved her students like her own.&nbsp; She was a wife, homemaker, mother, teacher, sister, and everything in between, but her favorite title was Grammy.&nbsp; When her two grandchildren were born, she officially retired from education and took on the full-time role as a grandmother.&nbsp; She loved taking care of the kids as babies and watching them grow.&nbsp; Christine was also very involved in the church through her life and always led with her faith in everything she did.&nbsp; Some of Christine’s favorite hobbies were church activities, watching her favorite mystery series, reading/going to the library, golfing with Tom, walking, shopping, playing card games with family and friends, and supporting grandkids at all their events.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her son, Andrew Christian Hudson, and her parents, Eldon and Dorothy Folmnsbee.

Christine is survived by her husband, Tom Hudson of McPherson and three children: Brad Hudson of McPherson, Brett Hudson of McPherson, and Amy Gilkey (Adam) of McPherson; one brother, Gary Folmnsbee (Cathy) of Oklahoma City, OK; and two grandchildren: Finn and Addison Gilkey, and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM, on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at the First Baptist Church, 600 E. Jason Lee Tripp, 44, passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 13, 2023, sitting in his favorite chair. He was born on August 21, 1978 in Ellsworth, KS to Bobbie Tripp. Jason was a devoted husband, loving father, a cherished friend to many, and above all a die-hard chiefs fan. He will be remembered for his kind heart, infectious laughter, and unwavering loyalty.

Jason worked as a supervisor for HPSI. He had a love and passion for trucks and dune buggies. He could often be found driving his truck “plum crazy” through many mud runs leaving behind a nostalgic grape smell. Throughout his life, Jason made a significant impact on those around him. He was deeply committed and devoted to his family and friends. As a semi national mud run champion Jason took home many trophies and awards leaving his wife Bekah to find enough shelf space for all the hardware. His unwavering dedication to help others inspired all who knew him.

Jason is survived by his beloved wife Bekah Tripp; his children, Brendan, Mykel, and Isabelle; mother Bobbie Tripp; siblings, Greg Tripp (Lindsey) and Sarah Arensman; and uncle Bond Tripp. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother Bonnie Tripp.

A visitation will take place 6-7 p.m., Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at Parsons Funeral Home, Ellsworth. Family will receive friends at that time.

Dorothy Neuschafer Grothusen of Ellsworth County, died May 13, 2023 at Salina Presbyterian Manor at age 100. She was born December 1, 1922 on a farm 10 miles southwest of Ellsworth to Henry and Mary (Obadal) Neuschafer.

She attended Cass Ridge Country School, a one-room schoolhouse, and graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1940. She was then employed by the AAA (Agricultural Adjustment Administration), achieving the position of chief clerk.

She married another Ellsworth County native, Dale Grothusen, on June 30, 1945 on Mercer Island near Seattle, WA. Following his discharge from the US Army Air Force that year, they moved to the Grothusen family farm northeast of Ellsworth. Together they operated the cattle and wheat farm for 58 years.

Dorothy was a skilled writer who enjoyed interviewing interesting people. These combined qualities led her to write hundreds of stories as a reporter and feature writer for the Ellsworth Reporter and later as a columnist for the Ellsworth County Independent-Reporter. She was also an excellent cook who was best known for her pies, often made with cherries from their own trees.

Her activities in the Ellsworth community included the First Presbyterian Church of Ellsworth, the VFW Auxiliary, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Ellsworth County Medical Center Auxiliary, and the Ellsworth County Historical Society. She and Dale enjoyed playing pinochle with their life-long card club friends, visiting their grown children, and traveling to Czechoslovakia (now the Czech Republic) and Germany. They avidly followed Czech polka music and dancing, traveling to polka fests in Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, Texas and Arizona.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dale, and her brothers Alfred, John, and Edward. She is survived by daughters Marsha Drebelbis (James) and Ruth Obadal (Charles Hammonds) and son William Grothusen Brooks (Richard Black), her brother Ben, and many nieces, nephews and extended family.

At Dorothy’s request, her body will be donated to the University of Kansas Medical Center for education and research. Burial of the remains will be at Ellsworth Memorial Cemetery. Joseph "Joe" Ronald Pickett, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away on May 15, 2023, after a courageous battle with terminal cancer. Born in Santa Rosa, California on March 27, 1971, to Ronald and Carol Ann (Pennewell) Pickett, Joe was known for his optimism, friendly nature, and great sense of humor.

Joe attended Santa Rosa High School, where he developed lifelong friendships and a strong work ethic. Later in life, he began his career at Ray's Apple Market in Beloit, where he worked as a Night Manager and Price Coordinator. Joe's dedication and commitment to his job were evident to all who worked with him, and he was highly regarded by both his colleagues and customers.

In his personal life, Joe was devoted to his family, which included his wife, Kelly Williams; his sister, Lisa Cowen; his brother, Michael Pickett; his stepchildren, Doug and Ashley Rupert; and numerous nieces, nephews, and two step-grandchildren. Joe's love for his family was unwavering, and he took great pride in their accomplishments.

Joe was also known for his strong bond with his good friend, Darrell Lapaille. The two shared many adventures and laughs over the years, and their friendship was a testament to Joe's loyalty and genuine character.

One of Joe's greatest passions was barbecuing, and he was often found manning the grill at family gatherings and neighborhood cookouts. His culinary skills were admired by all who had the pleasure of tasting his delicious creations. In addition to his love for cooking, Joe enjoyed working on puzzles, a hobby that brought him great satisfaction and relaxation.

Joe volunteered and began going to church at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church. Throughout his life, Joe maintained a positive outlook, even in the face of adversity. His optimistic spirit was contagious, and he had a unique ability to bring joy and laughter to any situation. Joe's friendly demeanor and quick wit endeared him to all who met him, and he will be remembered for the countless smiles and laughter he brought to those around him.

Joe's passing leaves a void in the hearts of his family and friends, but his memory will live on through the cherished moments and laughter shared. His legacy of love, kindness, and humor will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Joseph 'Joe' Ronald Pickett

Lora Rundle,&nbsp;78&nbsp;died&nbsp;May 13, 2023,&nbsp;in Clay Center,&nbsp;KS.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was born on&nbsp;October 9, 1944,&nbsp;in&nbsp;Concordia, the daughter of&nbsp;Everett&nbsp;and&nbsp;Eleanor (Gross)&nbsp;Duncan.&nbsp;&nbsp;Lora was a graduate of Riley County High School.&nbsp;&nbsp;She married Larry Rundle on July 26, 1964. Lora worked at Central Office, People's National Bank, secretary at Green Grade School, Clay County Treasurer's Office and ending her working career retiring as manager of C&amp;R Credit Union in 2006.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Lora and Larry were members of Good Sam’s Camping Club, Lora was the bookkeeper for the club.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Tommy Duncan.

Lora Rundle

Gary Kenneth Miller entered this world on November 13, 1954. Gary reached his final mile marker to Heaven to his loving eternal Savior on May 12, 2023. Gary was born in Abilene KS, to Kenneth and Thelma (Ensminger) Miller. He grew up in Enterprise KS and attended Chapman KS school district. He was a loving brother to Jeraldine (Jerry) and husband Morris Rutz, of Abilene KS, Larry and wife Mary Bangs of Escondido CA, Sally and husband Allen Battles of Attalla AL. He was united in marriage to his brown eyed girl and soulmate LaRae Ann Engle on September 14, 1973. They had three beautiful children, daughter Chelsea LaRae wife to Chad Hoerner of Abilene KS, son Chad Allen husband to Lynetta Miller of Oklahoma City OK, and daughter Cherise Ann Miller of Enterprise KS. He was the best Papa and blessed with eight wonderful grandkids Trey (wife Sarah) and Taya, children to Chelsea and Chad. Taylor, Brianna, Tailynn daughters to Chad. Jaiden, Izek and Neziah sons to Cherise. He has three great grandchildren River, Tyler and Louis. Gary was such a loving family man and his children and grandkids were his everything. He was a very supportive dad and grandfather and he was a very proud active role model in each of their lives. He had many nieces and nephews that he loved and adored. Gary was employed at Ehrsam’s in Enterprise KS then at Electric Wheel in Abilene KS and then pursued a lifelong career as a long haul truck driver for Zarda Dairy, USF Dugan and retired with TSI trucking. Gary was an outstanding truck driver and won an award for driving over a million miles accident free. He kept an immaculate log book that was used as an example to all truck drivers for USF Dugan. He was known as a human Atlas. He knew every mile marker, highway, interstate and potholes throughout the United States. Before GPS, Gary’s kids would call him when they were lost driving and the first question he asked was “What mile marker are you at?” along with navigating his trucking buddies and other family members. He was always there to help everyone get to their destinations! Gary had a heart of gold. He loved life, his family, the Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals, KU basketball and his dog Bentley. He enjoyed fishing, working in the garage on different projects teaching his son and grandsons how to work on vehicles and fix things around the house. He loved sitting on his front porch drinking his cup of coffee while talking to family and friends. People would always stop and talk with Gary when they seen him outside on his porch. Gary’s favorite holiday was the Fourth of July. He absolutely enjoyed competing to have the biggest loudest fireworks and enjoyed blowing up the main street along with teaching his grandkids all the wrong ways to set off fireworks! He always put black cats under our chairs to scare us and would laugh so hard when we jumped out of our chairs! He had such a contagious laugh with a spunky ornery sense of humor and would say the darndest things that brought a smile and laughter to everyone. People always told us that our family should have a reality show because our dad would be everyone’s favorite character! He was such a selfless caring loving person and would give the shirt off his back to anyone. He was such a family man and will be truly missed by all. He was preceded in death with his parents Kenneth and Thelma Miller and sister Jerry Rutz. Funeral services for Gary will be 10:00 am Friday, May 19, 2023 at the Zion Brethren in Christ Church north of Abilene with Pastor Jay Johnson officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Gary Kenneth Miller

Ella S. Gier, 91, of Salina, died on May 10, 2023 at the Minneapolis Health Care and Rehabilitation Center, Minneapolis, KS.

Ella Sophie Gier was born a twin with Della Hendrickson on June 21, 1931 in Sylvan Grove, Kansas to Henry and Amanda Heine.

She married Rolland (Bud) Gier on July 30, 1950, and had three children in 9 years. Marcia and Cathy were born while Bud was serving in the Navy and Ella managed the several moves on both coasts. Russell was born when they settled back in their hometown of Sylvan Grove. The family lived in Abilene during the time of Dwight Eisenhower's state funeral. Next and finally, the family moved to Salina where Russell resides at the family home. Ella volunteered at many locations in Salina and was proud of earning her nurses aide certificate. That training may have led to her legacy of giving the best backrubs. Turning your back on Ella was the right move. After retirement, Bud and Ella traveled to see more of the USA, visit relatives and attend his ship reunions.

She is preceded in death by daughter Marcia Kelley and husband Bud.

She is survived by daughter Cathy in Minnesota, son Russell who faithfully tended to her care for the last several years, granddaughters Annette Wooldridge and Rachel Ross, 6 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren.

In less than a year her life became difficult, and her family is grateful that she now has rest and blessings we can only imagine. Thank you to all who visited her and the staff who looked after her daily care.

A memorial service will be held at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Salina on Friday the 19th of May at 11am, followed by a luncheon. Ella donated her body to science and an inurnment of her cremains will be held at a later date. Memorials may be sent to the Christ the King Lutheran Church, 111 W. Magnolia, Salina, KS 67401 or the donor choice.

Ella S. Gier

Mary Catherine “Kay” Kilgariff, 81, passed away on Wednesday, May 10, 2023.&nbsp; She was born in Moline Illinois to Hugh B. Cabeen and Mary (Louck) Cabeen and raised in Aledo, Illinois with her half-brother, Richard Cabeen.&nbsp; Kay attended Aledo Elementary School as well as Aledo Senior High.

Kay met and married Roy Goding shortly after High School.&nbsp; This union produced three children, Teresa, Thomas, and Martin Goding.&nbsp; While the children were young, Kay was a stay at home mother.&nbsp; Roy worked for the United Parcel Service.&nbsp; This career sent them to Salina, Kansas.&nbsp; Kay was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority and was happy to transfer her membership to the Salina Chapter.&nbsp; When all the children attended school, she started working at ABC Kiddie Shop on Santa Fe.&nbsp; She enjoyed it so much, she bought the business!

After 21 years, Kay and Roy divorced.&nbsp; Kay became interested in real estate.&nbsp; She sold the Kiddie Shop and pursued her career as a realtor.&nbsp;&nbsp; Kay was elected associate realtor of the year many times.&nbsp; She was a member of the Salina Board of Realtors.&nbsp; Kay later met and married Charles Kilgariff.&nbsp; They worked together and owned Century 21.&nbsp; Kay retired from real estate at 75.

Kay liked to travel, visit the casinos, and enjoyed gardening. She enjoyed growing her own tomatoes and her favorite flowers were petunias.&nbsp; Kay loved spending time with her seven grandchildren. She was proud to have 17 great-grandchildren.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Mary; brother, Richard; son, Thomas; and second husband, Charles.

Surviving family members include children, Teresa and husband, Garry Erickson, Martin Goding and wife, Julia; daughter-in-law, Christina Goding; grandchildren, Lisa (Jake Swisher), Katie (Chad Loder), Brandon Goding (Nikki), Megan (Tim Fry), Justin Goding (Chelsey), Cody Goding (Meghan), Tyler Goding (Brianna);&nbsp; great-grandchildren, Sloane, Axel, Copen, Kaylee, Caden, Aveline, Timothy Jr., Abigail, Makenzie, Rylan, Hunter, Carmen, Zoey, Cayvn, BraeLynn, Maci, Sutton; many cousins, nieces and nephews, and many close friends.

Mary Catherine 'Kay' (Cabeen) Kilgariff

WICHITA –&nbsp;Derry A. Larson, 78, passed away Sunday, May 14, 2023. He was born in Salina to Merlin and Florence (Broman) Larson. &nbsp;

Derry graduated from Salina High School in 1963 and continued his education at Wichita State University earning an Accounting Degree and then becoming a Certified Public Accountant.&nbsp;

Derry founded Larson &amp; Company P.A. in 1981 and has been serving the Wichita community for over 41 years.

Derry was an avid hunter starting as a young boy and continuing throughout his life.&nbsp; He also had a competitive side that would sometimes show on the tennis court. &nbsp;

He was preceded in death by a nephew, Erik Larson.

Derry is survived by his wife of 58 years, Kay Larson; daughters, Caryn Landreth (Mark), Heidi Brown (Brant), Missy Todd (David); grandchildren, Alexis Landreth, Jadyn Landreth, Gannon Brown, Noah Brown, Lucy Brown, Grace Todd, Emma Todd, Sophie Todd; brother, David Larson (Camille); and niece, Katie Larson (Don).

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 22, 2023 at Hillside Christian Church, Wichita.&nbsp; Burial will be at 1 p.m. in Falun Cemetery, Falun, KS. &nbsp;

Derry A. Larson

Fern N. (Chartier) Kusy-Solbach, age 90, of Topeka, KS, passed away on Saturday, May 6,2023 at McCrite Plaza, Topeka, KS.She was born on July 8, 1932 in Colfax Twp, Cloud Co., KS to Lewis Albert &amp; Blanche Victoria (Cyr) Chartier.

Fern graduated from Miltonvale High School. She worked as a waitress, telephone operator, travel agent, florist, and was a homemaker.&nbsp;&nbsp;She married Duane Kusy on April 16,&nbsp;1955, in Clay Center, KS&nbsp;and he preceded her in death on March 22, 1991. Fern loved to paint the woodcrafts that Duane designed and they sold their “Dust and Fun Kuts” items at area craft shows. Fern later married Charles "Chuck" Solbach on Aug. 5, 1994 in Salina, KS.&nbsp;

Fern told everyone about her travels to France.&nbsp;&nbsp;In fact, she traveled to France 29 times! Fern and Duane developed a very close relationship with the Jean Lechrist family in France and they also hosted several students from France in their Clifton home. Chuck and Fern made additional trips to France and the relationship with the Jean Lechrist family continued to blossom after their marriage.

Fern was always a character who loved to laugh, joke around, and have a good time. Another one of her talents was antiquing. Fern and Duane collected and filled their Clifton home with antiques. She also helped Duane find over 40,000 arrowheads. She and Duane were very active in the Clifton Historical Society where they donated many of the arrowheads.&nbsp;&nbsp;She felt very honored to have three people named after her, Benedictine Fern Lechrist, Vera Fern Lyne and Louise Anne Fern.

Fern is survived by her “chosen family” caretakers for 47 years, Yvonne (Von) &amp; Galen Unruh, Topeka; brother, Keith Chartier (Avis), Newton; 2 nieces, Candace&nbsp;&nbsp;(Chartier) Murrell, Denise (Chartier) Dorcey, 1 nephew, Kevin Chartier; and 4 step children, Jody Solbach, Joel Solbach, Julia (Solbach) Brittner, and Erica (Solbach) Sharp, and many children who claim her as their grandmother/godmother.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Duane Kusy and Charles Solbach; son, Rick Kusy, daughter, Rhonda Kusy; her parents; brothers, Orville &amp; Edrus Chartier and sister, Leona Ione.

Funeral services will be at 11 am. Monday, May 22,&nbsp;2023 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, Clifton, KS&nbsp;with visitation beginning at 10 am.&nbsp;&nbsp;Burial will be at 1 pm in the Miltonvale Cemetery, Miltonvale, KS. (Chartier) Kusy-Solbach, age 90, of Topeka, KS, passed away on Saturday, May 6,2023 at McCrite Plaza, Topeka, KS.She was born on July 8, 1932 in Colfax Twp, Cloud Co., KS to Lewis Albert &amp; Blanche Victoria (Cyr) Chartier.Fern graduated from Miltonvale High School. She worked as a waitress, telephone operator, travel agent, florist, and was a homemaker.&nbsp;&nbsp;She married Duane Kusy on April 16,&nbsp;1955, in Clay Center, KS&nbsp;and he preceded her in death on March 22, 1991. Fern loved to paint the woodcrafts that Duane designed and they sold their “Dust and Fun Kuts” items at area craft shows. Fern later married Charles "Chuck" Solbach on Aug. 5, 1994 in Salina, KS.&nbsp;Fern told everyone about her travels to France.&nbsp;&nbsp;In fact, she traveled to France 29 times! Fern and Duane developed a very close relationship with the Jean Lechrist family in France and they also hosted several students from France in their Clifton home. Chuck and Fern made additional trips to France and the relationship with the Jean Lechrist family continued to blossom after their marriage.Fern was always a character who loved to laugh, joke around, and have a good time. Another one of her talents was antiquing. Fern and Duane collected and filled their Clifton home with antiques. She also helped Duane find over 40,000 arrowheads. She and Duane were very active in the Clifton Historical Society where they donated many of the arrowheads.&nbsp;&nbsp;She felt very honored to have three people named after her, Benedictine Fern Lechrist, Vera Fern Lyne and Louise Anne Fern.Fern is survived by her “chosen family” caretakers for 47 years, Yvonne (Von) &amp; Galen Unruh, Topeka; brother, Keith Chartier (Avis), Newton; 2 nieces, Candace&nbsp;&nbsp;(Chartier) Murrell, Denise (Chartier) Dorcey, 1 nephew, Kevin Chartier; and 4 step children, Jody Solbach, Joel Solbach, Julia (Solbach) Brittner, and Erica (Solbach) Sharp, and many children who claim her as their grandmother/godmother.She was preceded in death by her husbands, Duane Kusy and Charles Solbach; son, Rick Kusy, daughter, Rhonda Kusy; her parents; brothers, Orville &amp; Edrus Chartier and sister, Leona Ione.Funeral services will be at 11 am. Karen K. Hollembeak, 67, passed away Thursday, March 16, 2023.&nbsp; She was born in Atchison, KS to Hal and Mildred “Milly” Hollembeak. &nbsp;

Karen was a loving mother, dedicated friend, and exceptionally hard worker. In her free time she enjoyed gardening, biking, and communing with nature. Karen enjoyed many craft projects, especially making walking sticks and artwork that she generously gave as gifts. Above all she loved time spent with family and friends. Karen was loved by many and she will be missed.

Visitation will be held from 2-5 p.m. with family and friends sharing memories at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at Ryan Mortuary.&nbsp;

Joyce (Lyne)&nbsp;Marrs&nbsp;passed away peacefully Saturday, February 11, 2023 with her husband Leon Marrs at her side.&nbsp; She was 88 years old.&nbsp; Joyce was born May 21, 1934, to Neal and Eunice (Fuller) Lyne.&nbsp; She graduated from Miltonvale Rural High School.&nbsp; Joyce and Leon were married February 23, 1958, at the Methodist Church in Lamar, KS. &nbsp;

At the beginning of her career, Joyce held clerical and office management positions.&nbsp; She was the Administrator of Crestview Nursing Home in Bennington and held a number of health care positions focusing on seniors. &nbsp;

Joyce was a member of the Salina First United Methodist Church, American Business Women’s Association, and Epsilon Sigma Alpha International service sorority.&nbsp; In addition to leadership positions in her local chapters, Joyce served as the Kansas State President of ESA in 1979 – 1980.&nbsp; She was a tireless volunteer in her church and community. &nbsp;

Family and social connections were important to Joyce.&nbsp; In the last year she was able to attend her high school reunion and celebrate the 70th anniversary of her graduation, attend her oldest grandson’s wedding, welcome her first great grandchild, and attend her only granddaughter’s wedding.&nbsp; She passed away just twelve days before she and Leon would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. &nbsp;

Survivors include her husband Leon of the home; daughter Valeria Edwards and her husband Scott Boster, son Meredith, and wife Cheri Marrs.&nbsp; Also surviving grandchildren Neal and Andrea Edwards, Chad and Megan Edwards and great grandson Peyton, Clayton Marrs, and Mallory and Mark Connors, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. &nbsp;

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday May 27, 2023, at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church,122 North 8th Street, Salina, Kansas.&nbsp; Lunch for family and friends will follow at noon in the church’s Fellowship Hall.

The family suggests memorials to the Salina First United Methodist Church or the United Church of Bennington.

She was the owner and operator of her and William's Masonry Business. June enjoyed scrapbooking, spoiling all her grandkids, going to garage sales, and spending time with her friends and family. She is survived by her children, Terry Braden of Colorado, Steve Braden of Kansas City, Missouri, Jason Wilson of McPherson, and Stephanie (Steve) Oakes of McPherson; 14 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; siblings, Debbra Harper of Wichita, Kansas, William Wilson of McPherson, and James (Aurelia) Wilson of Cuchara, Colorado.; and all her bonus children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. A most virtuous and loving woman, Rachel Haney VanAmburg, aged 83, went to meet her Savior Jesus on May 10, 2023.&nbsp;She was born June 4, 1939, in Orange, CA, to Ivon and Oneta Pike. She was raised in Southern California and attended John Brown University where she met and married Sheldon VanAmburg, her partner for 63 years. &nbsp;

Rachel came to Lincoln, KS, with Sheldon to farm with his family in 1959, where they became involved in church activities that lasted throughout her life.&nbsp;She was a loving, considerate, and encouraging helpmate to her family, friends and community.&nbsp;She had a wonderful talent for music, helping her congregation by singing and playing piano on Sundays.&nbsp;She closely followed and assisted several missionary families, many of whom she knew personally,&nbsp;around the world. She continually praised God for her wonderful life and family.&nbsp;Her smile was beautiful and infectious, always readily given to everyone. We will miss her loving touch, radiant smile and blessings bestowed.

Rachel was preceded in death by her parents, Ivon and Oneta Pike, and her sister, Ivona Pickering. She is survived by her husband, Sheldon; daughter and son-in-law, Jana VanAmburg and Brett Frazier; daughter and son-in-law, Amanda and Steven Crist; grandchildren, Jennifer (Jeremy) Davidson, Lindsay (Rylan) Hincher, and Allison Crist;&nbsp;and one great grandson, Elias Davidson.

Marvin Lee Jeffers, 82, passed away May 10, 2023 in Lincoln, KS. He was born on December 15, 1940 on a farm in Beaver township, Lincoln County, to Clyde E. and Mary E. (Lessor) Jeffers. Marvin attended Lincoln Elementary and Lincoln High School (Class of 1959), then attended Fort Hays State University to obtain a master’s degree in Botany.

After graduation, Marvin was employed by the Bureau of Land Management in Burns, OR for 10 years. He worked in Portland, OR for the Bonneville Power Administration for 24 years performing audits on high-voltage electrical substations for the Northwestern states. After retiring in 1997, he returned to Lincoln, KS. Marvin married Karen LaVaughn (Bird) Hillegeist in Lincoln on February 14, 2001.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law Charlene (Ryan) Jeffers. He is survived by his wife Karen; son Bradley Kent Jeffers of Texas; brother Marlin Jeffers of Arizona; step-sons, Royce (Toni) Hillegeist, Tracy (Becky) Hillegeist, Scott Hillegeist, Brett (Heather) Hillegeist, and Brian (Megan) Hillegeist; step-daughters, Colleen (Randy) Lott and Brandi (Justin) Bennett; many step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren; nephew Kenneth (Dulce) Jeffers and family; and niece Stacey (Jeffers) Gonzalez.

Marvin will be laid to rest in Lincoln City Cemetery in a private family graveside service.

He is survived by his wife Karen; son Bradley Kent Jeffers of Texas; brother Marlin Jeffers of Arizona; step-sons, Royce (Toni) Hillegeist, Tracy (Becky) Hillegeist, Scott Hillegeist, Brett (Heather) Hillegeist, and Brian (Megan) Hillegeist; step-daughters, Colleen (Randy) Lott and Brandi (Justin) Bennett; many step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren; nephew Kenneth (Dulce) Jeffers and family; and niece Stacey (Jeffers) Gonzalez.Marvin will be laid to rest in Lincoln City Cemetery in a private family graveside service.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be given to the Lincoln Area Humane Society, c/o, Hall Chapel, PO Box 37, Lincoln, KS 67455.
