Peggy Joyce Scott of McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away surrounded by family and friends on August 24, 2023, at Hospice House in Hutchinson. She was 89 years old.


Born on December 3, 1933, in Milledgeville, Georgia, Peggy was the daughter of Samuel Arthur Evans and Clara Belle (Worsham) Evans. She grew up in Milledgeville and graduated from Peabody High School.


Peggy dedicated 23 years of her life to serving others as a receptionist/clerk at McPherson Floral. Her friendly nature and attention to detail touched the lives of countless customers who sought joy through beautiful flowers. She truly valued the importance of bringing smiles to people's faces during both moments of celebration and times of sorrow.

She was a longtime member of the First Christian Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Peggy's greatest role was that of a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She married the love of her life Carrol "Scotty" E. Scott, and together they built a remarkable life full of love, laughter, and shared experiences. Peggy cherished their union of 57 years until his passing on February 25, 2011.

Peggy is survived by her beloved daughter, Patricia "Trish" Scott of McPherson, Kansas. Trish provided endless love and support to her mother until the very end. In addition to Trish, Peggy's grandchildren, Chris Swick of Manhattan, KS and Rebecca (Matthew) Sanchelli of Overland Park, KS, were the light of her life and held a very special place in her heart. She adored them beyond measure and cherished every moment spent together. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Harold (Wanda) Scott of McPherson, KS; and many loyal & faithful friends.

Peggy's family was the center of her world.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Gary Scott; a brother, Lamar Cullens; and sister, Debbie Clance. 

A graveside service will be held at 9:30 AM, Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at McPherson Cemetery with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, at the First Christian Church with Rev. Lynn Scott officiating.

Memorial donations may be given to the First Christian Church or Hospice of Reno County (for the Hospice House) in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 North Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.
