Lynda Kay Hassler of Salina passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on June 28, 2025, at the age of 80.&nbsp; She was born on February 27, 1945, to Harold Miller and Helen (Nealy) Miller in Hope, Kansas.

Lynda attended school at Hope High School, graduating Valedictorian in 1963.&nbsp; From there, she proceeded to Manhattan and became a Wildcat at Kansas State University.&nbsp; She majored in Home Economics and graduated in 1967.&nbsp; She worked her way through college as a secretary for the Dean of Veterinary Medicine.&nbsp; She was proud to be the first one in her extended family to graduate from college.&nbsp;

She grew up on a farm gathering eggs, milking the cows, feeding the chickens and hogs, and working in the fields during harvest.&nbsp; She learned the value of hard work and the art of delayed gratification.

She and her future husband grew up in the New Basel United Church of Christ in Elmo, Kansas, and attended catechism together.&nbsp; Lynda married Randy Hassler on August 27, 1966, in the church where their story began and where they will be buried with their families. They were married for 59 years.

After graduation, the newlyweds moved to Kansas City. Lynda worked as a home economist for the gas company, putting her husband through medical school. She was active in the school’s programs and was the president of the KU Medical School Wives Club.

She brought two sons, Lance and Jason, into the world. She became a stay-at-home mother, nurturing and encouraging their development. She was proud of her sons’ accomplishments, with Lance becoming an architect and Jason becoming an MD.&nbsp; She supported her son’s tennis career and state championships.

Lynda provided steady support while raising her two young boys and keeping her intern husband awake as the family navigated numerous moves to Arizona, Texas, New Mexico, back to Texas, and finally to Florida following internships, flight surgeon school, and residency. Easy job, right?!

Finally, she made it back to Salina, Kansas, in 1979, where she became very active in the community.&nbsp; Lynda was a Boy Scout Den Mother and a member of the Coronado Area Council, where she held numerous board positions. She was a volunteer and supporter of the Smoky Hill River Festival.&nbsp; She was active in her PEO BW chapter, serving many roles, including President, and she served on many tournament committees as a member of the Salina Charities League.

Lynda was a Master Gardener, a talented seamstress and embroiderer, an accomplished cook, and one heck of a golfer.

Lynda loved her family, especially her granddaughters, Eryn, Emalie, Ruby, and Maisy. She later had great-grandchildren, Syer and Dreya.&nbsp; She couldn’t help but love and support the grandkids whom she adored.&nbsp; She attended all their sporting events, plays, recitals, art shows, competitions, and concerts. She wouldn’t miss an event even if she had to drag her husband along.

She was the glue of the family, making holidays memorable with exquisite meals, beautiful decorations, and traditions. Whether it was getting out the fancy china to serve a group of teenagers dinner before their homecoming, indulging her granddaughters with tea parties complete with squeeze cheese and Wheat Thins, or hosting an elegant family wedding in her hearth room, Lynda made her house a home where all were warmly welcomed.&nbsp;

Lynda’s life was full of love and enriched her family.&nbsp; Her life was a beautiful testimony of family and service. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her, and by her husband and partner forever.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Helen (Nealy) Miller, her brother, Steve Miller, and her son, Lance Hassler.

Lynda is survived by her husband, Randy Hassler and son Jason (Darla) Hassler, her sister, Barbara Morgan (Greg), niece, Heather Kepka, four granddaughters, Eryn (Jared) Thompson, Emalie Hassler, Ruby Hassler, and Maisy Hassler, and two great grandchildren, Syer Randy Thompson and Dreya Cole Thompson.

Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, July 25, 2025, at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N 8th St., Salina, KS.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 901 E Neal Ave, Salina, KS.

A luncheon will follow the service at the Salina County Club, 2101 E Country Club Rd, Salina, KS.

A private burial will take place at a later date.

Sherry Jo (Wolff) Brown, 78, of Salina passed away on June 29, 2025 at her home after a long battle with brain cancer.

Sherry was born May 29, 1947, at Asbury Hospital in Salina, KS. Sherry married Bruce Brown on May 26, 1989 at the Salemsborg Lutheran Church, Salemsborg, KS.

Shery is the daughter of the late Eugene Wolff and Electa Janice (Price) Wolff. She is survived by her husband, Bruce, Salina;&nbsp; brother, Tomy Wolff and sister in law, Cindy Wolff, Brookville; her brother in law, James L. Brown, Flagstaff, AZ and niece, Antjea Wolff, Pittsburg, KS.

Sherry was a 1965 graduate of Brookville High School. She attended Brown Mackie college for business as well as attending the Salina Vo-Tech for art. Later, Sherry went to work as a Secretary for Exide Battery. She then worked for the NBA Bank until she went to work for Westinghouse making light bulbs here in Salina. Sherry made it through the transition to Phillips Lighting, working 22 years. After Phillips Lighting, Sherry went back into banking, working for UMB and the Bank of Tescott before retiring. In retirement, she focused on her sewing as well as other artistic creations including numerous sewing projects for the county fair where she won many awards. She loved horses and butterflies.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday July 19, 2025 at the Ryan Mortuary, Salina. Inurnment will be in the Brookville Cemetery, Brookville, KS.

Deanna, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on July 10, 2025, at the age of 76. Her life was a testament to the power of kindness, devotion, and unwavering love. Deanna was born on November 4, 1948, in Quinter, Kansas to Clement &amp; Emma Helen (Gallagher) Ochs &amp; was raised on the farmstead in southwest Sheridan County. After high school graduation from Sheridan County High School in 1966, Deanna went on to finish her cosmetology license in Hays, Kansas. Not long after high school, Deanna married her high school sweetheart, Max Michael Kennedy on June 10, 1967. Max &amp; Deanna started their married life in Hays while Max finished his college degree then moved to Stockton, Kansas where they lived for four years before returning to the farm in Hoxie, Kansas.

Although Deanna’s greatest joys were spent with her husband raising their three children, she understood the importance of sharing her love for others too. She was a woman whose caring heart knew no limits. Whether it was helping care for an ill friend, volunteering behind the scenes in her community, or simply sending a card for every occasion, Deanna always found a way to show others how much she cared. No birthday, anniversary, or milestone went unacknowledged, and her thoughtfulness brightened countless lives.

Her love for her family was the center of her world. She rarely missed a single game or event involving her children and grandchildren. With her ever-present camera in hand, she captured precious memories, recording games and taking photos to preserve each moment. At home, she nourished her family with delicious home-cooked meals with some family favorites of chili, tacos, sloppy joes, spaghetti, brownies, cookies, homemade hot chocolate and her famous pecan pies. Thousands of harvest meals were packed with care, always complete with a mason jar of tea and each one customized with their favorite candy bar.

Punctual to a fault, she was known to be early to everything, sometimes sitting in the car honking the horn to hurry her family along. Her days were filled with simple joys: dancing and traveling with her husband, the occasional gambling trip, and many years of crushing it in their couple’s bowling league in Hoxie in the 70s &amp; 80s. The last fourteen years, mornings were spent at Oscar’s with some dear friends over a cup of iced tea.

Her community benefitted endlessly from her quiet dedication. She volunteered for Sodality, the Hospital Auxiliary, carnival &amp; ballfield concessions, backstage during plays and musicals, and serving on the SCHS/HHS Alumni Board. She even stepped on the stage of a few NEC productions many years ago. She never sought recognition—only the satisfaction of helping others and seeing her community thrive.

Deanna loved deeply and worried often, always making sure everyone was safe, happy, and cared for. She leaves behind a legacy of generosity and love that will forever inspire all who knew her. Deanna is survived by her husband, Max Kennedy, son Brad Kennedy and fiancé Crystal, Hoxie, son Scott and wife Tanya Kennedy, Hoxie, and daughter Jodi and husband Brent Rogers, Hoxie, grandchildren Ashley (Jesse) Miller, Chase (Gabi) Kennedy, Jared Kennedy, Lane (Jaiden) Kennedy, Josey Kennedy, Mercedes Kennedy, Preston Kennedy, Brookelyn Kennedy, Paiton Rogers, &amp; Kinley Rogers; and great-grandchildren, Maddi, Marcus and Jordyn Miller, Amelia and Bodie Kennedy, and Ada Kennedy; sister Carol Geerdes, brother Dan (Deb) Ochs and nieces &amp; nephews. (McPherson) Jones, age 87, died peacefully at her home in McPherson, KS on July 9, 2025.&nbsp; She was born on July 29, 1937, in rural Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma to Ona &amp; Grace (Cooper) McPherson.&nbsp; She was a 1955 graduate of Barnsdall High School, Barnsdall, Oklahoma.&nbsp; She was a resident of McPherson, KS since 2002 and lived an incredibly full and devoted life to her family.

Her marriage to Victor Enns on July 7, 1956, in Tecumseh, Oklahoma, resulted in four children who survive her: Vikki (Roger) Trimmell of McPherson, KS, K. Scott Enns of Cincinnati, OH, Betsy (Carl) Riblett of Wamego, KS, and Timothy (Angela) Enns of Wichita, KS; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Mona Ruiz of Olathe, KS; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; her siblings, Barbara French, Mary Ledsman, Ona Lewis McPherson, Jr.; husbands, Victor D. Enns and Richard Jones; and daughter-in-law, Della Hartman Enns.

Frances G. (McPherson) Jones

Marc Lahr, age 85, quietly passed away on Wednesday evening, July 9, 2025, at Homestead Memory Care in Abilene, Kansas.

Marc was born on May 3, 1940, in Abilene to John Henry and Irene (Downs) Lahr. Despite the fact that Marc grew up in a farm environment, he did not have any dreams of being a farmer! Despite his allergies, Marc, helped during harvest time by driving grain trucks to town for his father. Marc graduated from Abilene High School in 1958 and as his busy school and work schedule allowed, Marc was also a great help to his brother, Jerry on his farm in Abilene.

Marc then graduated from Kansas State University in 1963 with a Bachelor of Architecture degree, and went to work at the Topeka-Shawnee County Metropolitan Planning Commission. He worked there his entire career and had risen to the position of Interim Director at the time of his retirement. During those years, Marc became very involved with historic preservation efforts and chaired Historic Topeka, as well as having chaired the Shawnee County Bicentennial Celebration and Parade. He also served on the board of the Mulvane Art Museum.

After retirement, Marc enjoyed his passion for art and antiques. He became a certified appraiser of art, antiques and furniture. Marc also owned an estate sale company and had a booth at Washburn View Antiques. He delighted in having beautiful homes and wonderful friends throughout the Topeka community. Marc moved back to Abilene in late 2019 and lived the rest of his life close to family and friends until his death.

Marc is survived by his brother, Jerry Lahr (Donna). Nephew, Jason Lahr (Annie) and their children: Isaiah Lahr (Rebecca) and son, Henry; Eli Lahr and Lydia Lahr. Brother-in-law, Dan Razak. Nephew, Ross Razak, his son, Zack and daughter, Ava Razak. Niece, Jenny Lahr Razak and her children Ruby, Millie and Adisu. Despite the fact that Marc grew up in a farm environment, he did not have any dreams of being a farmer! Despite his allergies, Marc, helped during harvest time by driving grain trucks to town for his father. Marc graduated from Abilene High School in 1958 and as his busy school and work schedule allowed, Marc was also a great help to his brother, Jerry on his farm in Abilene.He was a proud Abilene native.Marc then graduated from Kansas State University in 1963 with a Bachelor of Architecture degree, and went to work at the Topeka-Shawnee County Metropolitan Planning Commission. He worked there his entire career and had risen to the position of Interim Director at the time of his retirement. During those years, Marc became very involved with historic preservation efforts and chaired Historic Topeka, as well as having chaired the Shawnee County Bicentennial Celebration and Parade. He also served on the board of the Mulvane Art Museum.After retirement, Marc enjoyed his passion for art and antiques. He became a certified appraiser of art, antiques and furniture. Marc also owned an estate sale company and had a booth at Washburn View Antiques. He delighted in having beautiful homes and wonderful friends throughout the Topeka community. Marc moved back to Abilene in late 2019 and lived the rest of his life close to family and friends until his death.Marc is survived by his brother, Jerry Lahr (Donna). Nephew, Jason Lahr (Annie) and their children: Isaiah Lahr (Rebecca) and son, Henry; Eli Lahr and Lydia Lahr. Brother-in-law, Dan Razak. Nephew, Ross Razak, his son, Zack and daughter, Ava Razak. Sandra Sue Hernbloom

Michael Lee Rutz of 7716 Kilgore Rd,Yale Michigan, and formerly of Enterprise and Hope KS, passed away Wednesday, November 27th, 2024 at Port Huron McLaren Hospital at the age of 69 after suﬀering a heart attack on Saturday, November 23rd, 2024.

Mike was born on December 24th, 1954 to the late Willis and Carol Rutz. On July 23rd, 2005, Mike married Renauda Cote (Snowbird) of Ontario, Canada.

Mike graduated from Hope High School in 1973 and attended Theological College in California,and Nebraska. He joined the United States Army for 6 yrs and then discharged. In 1984, Mike attended Kansas State University and Manhattan Christian College and received 2 degrees in Education.

In 1987, Mike re-entered the military as Second Lieutenant serving several tours overseas including Germany and Korea as a Commander. Mike served as Captain Rutz during Desert Storm in 1991. He exited the Military in 1996 and resumed teaching In Special Education. Mike taught in Topeka, Garden City, Marlette Elementary in Manhattan, and Abilene High School for 15yrs then retired in 2020. However, Mike continued to teach in Salina KS at Lakewood Middle School, a second time for 2yrs at Marlette Elementary, and lastly at Northern High School in Port Huron,Michigan.

During his years of teaching, Mike had developed a lot of personal relationships with so many students and parents. He helped so many of these kids become responsible and respectful people.

Mike was a member of New Basel Church, Grace United Church and occasionally preached there as well. He was also a member of Community Bible Church.

Mike served several years as a City Council Member for the City of Enterprise KS, and served several years on the Chapman Board of Education.

Mike was a Legion member of Post #39 of Abilene KS. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion.

Mike is Survived by his loving Wife of 19 yrs, Renauda Rutz,

Daughter Julia Cooper (Curt) of Hoxie KS, Daughter Amy Rutz (Jesse) of Manhattan KS, Stepchildren Dave Covemaeker (Myrthe) of Ontario Canada, Tanya Gooding (Chris) of Ontario Canada,

Jamie Holloway(Nephew). Mike’s Brother Billy Rutz also passed away just 2 months after Mike on January 13th, 2025.

Mike will be missed by all and so many Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.

Mike had a great love for his family and his passion for helping his students succeed is what kept him teaching.

Mike was the most amazing husband, father and most of all, he was the best papa Mike ever.

Mike loved going to the gym (Impact Sports) and working out and then hanging out with his coﬀee buddies. He enjoyed many breakfast gatherings with them.

He loved fishing and gardening, which was

his specialty. Mike always made time for the family reunion and loved family dinners at our home. He enjoyed playing with the grandchildren, from nerf guns battles to jumping on the trampoline. Mike looked forward to our yearly trip to Canada to go camping at Bissell’s Hideaway. He

loved to suntan in a lounge chair while watching the grandchildren play in the pool. He loved a good Stella beer and always appreciated his wife’s cooking.

Mike was cremated in Michigan and Renauda is bringing him home to Kansas to be buried beside his Son in Manhattan KS as per his request.

Services will be held July 11th with Lindsey Brummer oﬃciating at 11am at Community Bible Church, 1400 N Cedar St, Abilene KS.

Burial will follow the service at Sunrise Cemetery, 2901 Stagg Hill Rd, Manhattan KS.

Light lunch and Refreshments will follow back at Community Bible Church at 1:30pm

There will be a procession from the church to the cemetery, led by the Legion Riders. If you can only come to the luncheon, please come, it’s the most important thing. Mike would want us all to talk, tell stories and his favorite - for everybody to eat! We can share our memories of Mike.

James Cooprider, 97, passed away on July 8, 2025, at The Cedars, McPherson, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born February 8, 1928.&nbsp; His parents were Henry and Clara Cooprider.&nbsp; He attended a local elementary school in Groveland Township in McPherson County.&nbsp; He then attended Hesston Academy in Hesston, Kansas, Class of 1946.&nbsp; In 1948, he married Wilma Sparks whom he met at Hesston Academy.&nbsp; He was a lifelong farmer and stockman.&nbsp; He was a member of Journey Mennonite Church.

James is survived by his children: Jim Cooprider, Duane (Julie) Cooprider, and Donna Burnett; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Wilma Sparks Cooprider; his parents; his twin sister, Joyce Schrock Cook; and his son-in-law, Richard Burnett.

A visitation will be held on Monday, July 14, 2025, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Stockham Family Funeral Home with family receiving friends from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM.&nbsp; A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, July 15, at Stockham Family Funeral Home.&nbsp; A burial will be held prior to the service at 9:00 AM, at West Liberty Cemetery (located at the intersection of 4th&nbsp;Avenue and Comanche road, rural McPherson).

Robert "Bob" John Baird, 76, of Salina, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2025. Born on October 21, 1948, in Salina, Bob was the son of Helen (Wolsieffer) Heinen and Robert Foster Baird.

A lifelong resident of Salina, he proudly served in the United States Navy before going on to a long and respected career holding different positions at Premier Pneumatics.On July 28, 1986, Bob married Sonja Lee Luebbert, in Salina. Together they built a life centered around family, hard work, and enduring commitment.

Bob is survived by his wife, Sonja; sons, Bob Baird (Sara) of Salina and Chuck Baird (Courtney) of Ninnekah, Oklahoma; daughter, Katie Baird of Salina; and stepson, Brian Luebbert of Hutchinson, Kansas. He was a proud grandfather to 11 grandchildren and a great-grandfather to one beloved great-grandson.

Also surviving are his sister, Pam Usher (Greg) of Tomball, Texas; and his brother, Chris Heinen (Sheila) of Sun City, Arizona.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Tom Baird.In accordance with his wishes, cremation was chosen and no formal services are planned.

Robert "Bob" John Baird

Chase Stephen Kesl&nbsp;was born May 25th, 1983, and died unexpectedly on June 19th, 2025. He is survived by his three daughters, of whom he was immensely proud. Nora,13, Josie, 11 Faye, 9. From an early age Chase loved tractors. His pedal tractor in the drive was pulling implements his Grandpa Leo had made him, playing in the dirt with his collection of little toys hitched on with a bread tie, hours spent riding on the fender of his beloved Grandpa Coonie’s tractor.

Always an old soul, Chase was born a generation too late to be a farmer, but he still realized his dream. He was the owner and operator of Elevation Earthworx and happily played in the dirt nearly every day. He was a skilled mechanic and could fix almost anything; if it couldn’t be fixed, he could always adapt it to make it work. He was hardworking, honest, funny, and so very kind. All those who had the pleasure of meeting him called him friend. Chase was a devoted father, brother, friend, and son. There are so many people who were touched by his gregarious personality, generosity, his willingness to lend a helping hand. Showing up in his bibs, ready to get to work.

A celebration of his life will be held July 12th at 4 pm at 543 National Rd, Palmer KS 66962. Wear your bibs and bring your best Chase stories! There are so many to share.

On Monday, June 23, 2025, Logan Wade Wardyn, 33, of San Ramon, California, passed into eternal life, finding peace in the presence of God.

Logan was born in Superior, Nebraska, on September 19, 1991. His family moved to Salina, Kansas, in 1999, where he lived until 2015. Logan graduated from Salina High School Central in 2009. Although he always intended to continue his education, he wasted no time pursuing an entrepreneurial path. Before graduating high school, Logan started his own cleaning business, Wardyn One Cleaning, which allowed him to work nights and weekends—giving him the time and flexibility to continue his studies and, most importantly, enjoy being his own boss.

After graduating high school, Logan went on to attend Kansas State University’s Salina campus, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Personal Financial Planning with a minor in Business. He graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2015 with an outstanding 3.97 GPA and was a proud member of the Kappa Omicron Nu Honor Society—a reflection of both his intelligence and dedication. While at K-State, Logan worked as a Peer Financial Coach, where he helped fellow students navigate financial challenges with patience, empathy, and a calming presence. He played a key role in the Student Money Management Center, offering guidance and genuine care to anyone in need. He also shared his talents as a peer tutor in Math, Statistics, and Economics, earning the respect and admiration of classmates and professors alike. His hard work didn’t go unnoticed—he was honored with several awards, including Outstanding Senior. And in true Logan fashion, he began working toward his graduate degree before even finishing his undergraduate studies.

After graduating from K-State, Logan moved to Wichita, Kansas, where he began his career as a financial planner and later as a tax analyst. It was also in Wichita that he met his future best friend and husband, Tuan. While launching his career, Logan continued his studies at Kansas Wesleyan University, earning a Master’s Degree in Business Administration in December 2016 with a 4.0 GPA.

His passion for learning and drive for growth opened doors to new opportunities. In 2018, Logan transitioned into the aerospace industry, relocating to Oklahoma City to join Boeing. He began as an Engineering Specialist, where he facilitated and managed the workflow of a large team of software engineers responsible for delivering complex projects across various defense programs. He later moved into a new role as a Contract Specialist—a position where he truly thrived. In this role, Logan prepared, negotiated, executed, and administered legally binding contract agreements for a wide range of programs, including both U.S. and international defense initiatives as well as aeronautical products. These contracts often carried multimillion-dollar values. Logan served as a key consultant and external spokesperson for Boeing on matters of major importance, advising on company policies, strategic programs, and long-term goals.

In 2023, Logan accepted a remote position with Collins Aerospace as a Contracts Manager and was soon promoted to Senior Contract Manager. In this role, he oversaw the entire contract lifecycle for both government and commercial contracts. His work supported projects that aided some of the world’s most prominent leaders. Logan collaborated with cross-functional teams—including legal, finance, and program management—to develop competitive proposals, mitigate contractual risks, and guide project managers and stakeholders. Drafting, negotiating, and fully executing high-stakes contracts with global customers required exceptional skill and resilience. His role was demanding and high-pressure, but it also sparked a deep curiosity and gave him the opportunity to work closely with government agencies and international partners. These experiences not only advanced his professional growth but also allowed him to travel and immerse himself in diverse cultures.

Throughout his career in aerospace, Logan made a meaningful and lasting contribution to our society and national defense. His work helped protect our country and uphold our freedoms—an impact that will be remembered and honored.

Outside of his professional life, Logan found joy in staying active and engaged. He loved tackling home renovation projects, solving problems, and lending a hand to others whenever he could. He had a deep appreciation for nature and adventure— enjoying hikes, cruises, travel, and cherished visits home to be with family. Whether it was wine tasting with friends or hosting loved ones for vacations, Logan made the most of every moment. Above all, he loved bringing joy to others. His quick wit and playful spirit made him the kind of person who could light up a room with laughter and good company. At home, Logan treasured quiet evenings spent watching movies and sharing meaningful time with family, friends, and those closest to his heart.

Logan was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on this earth was marked by love, compassion, and limitless generosity. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and many others whose lives he touched.

We ask that you remember him not for the way his life ended, but for the way he lived—and the profound impact he had on all those fortunate enough to know him.

Logan is deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his husband Tuan Tran, his two beloved dogs Kylo and Leia, his parents Teresa and Jerry Wardyn, his brother Derek Kistler (Carrie), sister Candice Strella (Sam), and niece Cedar. He is also survived by his grandmother Ellen Kistler and grandmother Donna Wardyn, as well as in-laws, many aunts, uncles, and cousins who shared his joyful spirit. Jacqueline "Jackie" J. Pennington, 81, of Salina, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 15, 2025, surrounded by her loving children.

Jackie was born on August 3, 1943, in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of Estella Vogt. On March 20, 1962, she married the love of her life, Dr. Richard Pennington. Together, they were blessed with four children, who were the center of her world.

A talented oil painter, Jackie created numerous beautiful works of art that her family cherishes. She was also an active member of the Salina Women’s Bowling Team, where she made lasting friendships and memories. She had lifelong friends whom she deeply cherished.

Jackie is survived by her children: Lisa (Jim) Passmore, Kelly (Bob) Lathrop, Todd (Shelly) Pennington, and Dr. Brett Pennington; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Richard Pennington; her mother, Estella Vogt; her siblings; and her daughter-in-law, Christy Pennington.

Jackie will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her artistic spirit, and the warmth she brought to everyone who knew her.

A celebration of Jackie’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at Sunrise Presbyterian Church, 825 E Beloit Ave, Salina, Kansas. Following the service, inurnment will take place at Gypsum Hill Cemetery.

Ernestine Frances (Ball) Morrison, 88, passed away on July 3, 2025. Ernestine was born in Arkansas City, KS on September 26, 1936, the only child of the late Anna (Gannon) Ball and Wilson Blair Ball. She graduated from Salina High School in 1954 and married Harold Morrison in 1956. They raised their two daughters, Kimberly and Teri Ann on the family farm north of Salina.

Through out her childhood and high school, she developed her talent as a dancer with lessons and theatre involvement. In 1960, she was cast in the Solid Gold Cadillac for the fledgling Salina Community Theatre. She continued to contribute her time and talents as an actress, chorographer, staging consultant and director for SCT over the next five decades. In addition to her theatre work, the family started showing Quarter horses in 1970. Harold and Ernestine then devoted their time to traveling throughout the country as Kim &amp; Teri pursued state and national titles. Ernestine became executive secretary of the Kansas Quarter Horse Association in 1997 and served as the editor and publisher of the KQHA monthly magazine until 2003. She was inducted into the KQHA Hall of Fame in 2007.

She is preceded in death by husband Harold in 2022. She is survived by her daughters;&nbsp; Kimberly (Fred) Norwood, New Cambria; Teri Ann (Michael) Johnson, Temple, TX; grandson, Brandon (Mandy) Norwood, Salina.

Visitation will be at 6 pm, Wednesday, July 9 at Ryan Mortuary, with a celebration of life on Thursday, July 10 at 1 pm also at Ryan Mortuary. Interment will be at Roselawn Cemetery. A casual gathering for memories and stories will follow at Blue Skye Brewery in downtown Salina.&nbsp;

William J. LaBarge, affectionately known as Billy or Bill, was born on June 27, 1943 to Louis and Mary LaBarge, in Portis, Kansas. He departed this life on June 29, 2025, leaving behind a legacy characterized by courage, intellect, and a deep love for knowledge.

Bill received his education in Gaylord, Kansas, where the foundations of his immense passion for history were laid. This dedication to learning followed him throughout his life, ultimately leading to the achievement of a master's degree in history from Fort Hays State University. His intellectual pursuits were woven into the fabric of his daily existence, as he was known to be an avid reader who delighted in immersing himself in the stories of the past.

In 1961, Bill bravely enlisted in the United States Navy, a decision that would shape much of his early adult life. Serving as a radio operator on the USS Oriskany (CVA 34) Aircraft Carrier during the tumultuous years of the Vietnam conflict, he exemplified valor and commitment to his country. For his extraordinary service, Bill was awarded the Purple Heart, a testament to his courage in the face of adversity.

After leaving the Navy in 1970, Bill returned to Downs, Kansas, where he continued to embrace life with the same passion he had demonstrated in his service and studies. His love for history remained a cornerstone of his identity, influencing the way he engaged with the world around him.

William LaBarge's life was a rich tapestry of experiences, driven by a commitment to learning and a determination to serve. He will be remembered for his dedication to his country, his thirst for knowledge, and the profound impact he had on those fortunate enough to know him. His memory will continue to inspire and resonate with family, friends, and all who carry forward his legacy of valor and scholarship.&nbsp;

Jason Kiel Zerbe, 41, passed away Friday, June 27, 2025. He was born February 27, 1984, in Albuquerque, NM to Dary and Deborah (Willems) Zerbe. 

He always carried the beauty of New Mexico in his heart and considered it to be home. Jason served his country in the United States Army and was deployed during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He enjoyed skydiving, “gardening”, cooking, spending time with his nieces and nephews, and making tie-dye shirts for all family members. 

We will miss his endless philosophical discussions on endless topics. We will always toast his empty chair at the table whenever we gather as a family. 

Besides his parents, Jason is survived by his siblings, Nathan Zerbe, Jerod Zerbe, Hannah Bowles, and Blake Zerbe.

Sunday, July 6, 2025, Sharon Kaye (Stief) Mullins is finally home with her Savior, after a brief three-month battle with cancer.

She was born August 8, 1946 in East St. Louis, IL and was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis R. Mullins; parents, Robert and Irene Stief; parents-in law, Raymond and Alma Mullins; infant grandchild; brother, Robert Stief; and sisters, Carol Lee Lynch and Patsy Joyce Powell.&nbsp; Sharon had been a resident of Gypsum, Kansas since 1970 when her husband, Dennis, became pastor of Temple Church where they faithfully served the congregation for 50 years.

She is survived by her children, Aaron D. Mullins (Michelle), Eric D. Mullins (Andrea) and Denise K. Mullins; her 16 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren as well as her brother, Harold (JoEtta) Stief; and sister, Gerri (Geraldine Ann) Gibson.

Sharon worked as Demo Coordinator for Sams Club for 15 years and selflessly, humorously and joyfully served countless young lives in children's church and teaching music at Faith Christian School. She loved people and people loved her though she would promise you that she was a total introvert.

An extraordinary impression was made on all that she met as her quick wit, humility and kindness put everyone at ease.&nbsp; Her thoughts were consistently for others through her very last hours as she always sought to serve rather than to be served by others. Music, cooking, and her love for the Lord encompassed her life as she loved her family and others well by finding and showing God's hand in every aspect of life, cooking everyone's favorites and filling her home with singing and music.

A graveside service, officiated by Rex Howard, will be held Saturday, July 12, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Temple Church, 9657 S. Amos Road, Gypsum, KS 67448.

 </figure>Sunday, July 6, 2025, Sharon Kaye (Stief) Mullins is finally home with her Savior, after a brief three-month battle with cancer.She was born August 8, 1946 in East St. Louis, IL and was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis R. Mullins; parents, Robert and Irene Stief; parents-in law, Raymond and Alma Mullins; infant grandchild; brother, Robert Stief; and sisters, Carol Lee Lynch and Patsy Joyce Powell.&nbsp; Sharon had been a resident of Gypsum, Kansas since 1970 when her husband, Dennis, became pastor of Temple Church where they faithfully served the congregation for 50 years.She is survived by her children, Aaron D. Mullins (Michelle), Eric D. Mullins (Andrea) and Denise K. Mullins; her 16 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren as well as her brother, Harold (JoEtta) Stief; and sister, Gerri (Geraldine Ann) Gibson.Sharon worked as Demo Coordinator for Sams Club for 15 years and selflessly, humorously and joyfully served countless young lives in children's church and teaching music at Faith Christian School. She loved people and people loved her though she would promise you that she was a total introvert.An extraordinary impression was made on all that she met as her quick wit, humility and kindness put everyone at ease.&nbsp; Her thoughts were consistently for others through her very last hours as she always sought to serve rather than to be served by others. Music, cooking, and her love for the Lord encompassed her life as she loved her family and others well by finding and showing God's hand in every aspect of life, cooking everyone's favorites and filling her home with singing and music.A graveside service, officiated by Rex Howard, will be held Saturday, July 12, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Temple Church, 9657 S. Willis “Bill” Rutz, 72 formerly of Topeka and Hope passed away January 13, 2025 in Battle Ground, Washington. He was born December 14, 1952, the son of Willis and Carol Rutz. Willis served 4 years in the United States Marine Corp from 1974-1978. 

Military Graveside Services will be 2:00 P.M., Sunday, July 13, 2025 at New Basel Cemetery, South of Abilene. 

Bill is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Morgan (Shane) and sister, Sue Holloway (Charlie). He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Mike Rutz and infant son, Christian Rutz.

Bradley L. Budden, 75, of Abilene, Kansas, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2025, in the company of loved ones.

Born on December 3, 1949, in Clay Center, Kansas, Brad was the son of Florence Fyfe and Lyman Budden. He grew up in the surrounding area, but it was in Abilene where he truly put down roots and made his home. A 1967 graduate of Abilene High School, Brad went on to serve his country in the National Guard during the Vietnam War era.

Brad began his professional life with KP&amp;L, but soon pivoted to a long tenured career with Southwestern Bell Telephone, where he worked as a lineman, splicer, and installation and repair technician. He continued this work through the transition to AT&amp;T, ultimately retiring after a long and dedicated career. Never one to sit still, Brad later worked for Horizon Farm &amp; Ranch Realty, continuing to lend his expertise and work ethic well into his later years.

Brad was known for his hard work, his ornery nature, a sarcastic sense of humor, and his deep love of horses and team roping. He shared his passion for horses with his children and his many roping partners across the decades. His breadth of knowledge and experience in equine husbandry was truly expansive, and should be the benchmark of dedication for all who have a passion. He was a genuine cowboy to the core, and none did it better. Though above all, he was fiercely devoted to his children—always their biggest supporter and advocate.

He is survived by his children (and their spouses): Rachelle Swearingen (Ray), Sara Meng (Justin), and Theodore Budden (Emily); his grandchildren: Samantha and Grant Swearingen, Claire, Claudia, and Caroline Meng, Benjamin and Rosie Budden; and one great-grandchild, Walker.

Brad also leaves behind two half-siblings, Kelly and Tim Budden; and many extended family members and friends who will remember him with love.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Florence Fyfe and Lyman Budden, as well as his brothers, Arden and Gailen Budden.

A memorial service will be held at Community Bible Church in Abilene at 10:30 AM on Saturday, July 12th. Burial will follow at Rose Meron Cemetery. Family will receive friends Friday evening from 5-7 P.M., at Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Brad’s memory to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation at CFF.org.

Brad's legacy of grit, humor, passion, and unwavering love for his family will live on in those who knew him best.

Bradley L. Budden

Rick Arroyo age 73 passed away on June 23, 2025, in Salina, Kansas. &nbsp; He was born February 1952 to Edith and Manuel Arroyo. Rick lived a life with a passion for education and a love for his family.

Rick’s professional life was marked by his years at Rema Bakeware Manufacturing Company, and his valuable contribution as a substitute teacher within USD305. A man of faith, Rick was a long-time member of the Ray Avenue Baptist Church.

An avid reader, Rick also enjoyed fishing and art.&nbsp; These hobbies provided him with much joy and relaxation, and they were a significant part of who he was.

Rick is survived by his wife, Linda; his son, Jacob; his siblings, Bill, Tony, Terri, Tammy, and Debbie; and his grandchildren, Liam and Katarina.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his mother Edith, father Manuel, daughter Misty, and brother Mark.

Contributions in Rick’s memory can be made to a local animal shelter or Ray Avenue Baptist Church, reflecting his love for animals and his commitment to his faith community.&nbsp;

We will miss him dearly, and cherish his memory always.

A celebration of life will be held at Ray Avenue Baptist Church on 12 July at 10:00 AM

Dee Noffsinger, 90 died July 6, 2025, in Clay Center, KS.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was born on May 18, 1935, in Downs, KS, the daughter of Edwin and Mable (Gier) Thaete.&nbsp;&nbsp;Dee attended business college in Colorado after graduating high school in Lebanon, KS.&nbsp;&nbsp;Dee married Clifford Noffsinger on August 15, 1959.&nbsp;&nbsp;She worked with her husband at Noffsinger Veterinary Hospital for many years.&nbsp;&nbsp;Dee was a Welcome Wagon hostess for over 50 years, greeting new arrivals to the Clay Center Community. Clifford preceded her in death on October 16, 2023.&nbsp;&nbsp;Dee was a member of St. Paul Lutheran church where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was also active in the Friendship Club, BPW, Pilot Club, KVMA and AVMA.&nbsp;&nbsp;Dee was also preceded in death by her parents, one sister and three brothers.
