Robert A. Goben, 62, of Solomon, passed away Friday August 16, 2024.&nbsp; He was born to John and Helen (Reno) Goben.

He graduated in 1980 from Salina South High School and went to work for the Santa Fe Railroad on May 31, 1981.&nbsp; He retired from the railroad on June 1, 2022 after 41 years of service as a trackman.

Robert was a sports fanatic.&nbsp; He enjoyed all sports talk shows and watching any sport college or pro. &nbsp;

He was a member of the Salina Blue Lodge #60 and the Valley of Salina Scottish Rite. &nbsp;

Robert married Glenda (Milleson) in 1988.&nbsp; He had no biological children but gained three stepdaughters when he married Glenda. &nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Helen; two brothers, William Goben, Micheal Spears; and sister, Nancy Crenshaw.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 36 years, Glenda; sisters, Margi Berendzen (Larry) of Burien, WA, Margaret Henderson of Bermuda Dunes, CA; brothers, John Goben (Kathy) of Walla Walla, WA, Doug Goben (Jenny) of Cedar Hill, MO; stepdaughters, Amy Rose (Shannon) of Denver, Nicole Dickerman of Glasgow, MO, Brandy Sargent of Salina; nine grandchildren, Christopher, Brendon, Cody, Brittany, Kaitlyn, Triston, Dolcey, Daisey, Dolton; 11 great-grandchildren, Coralyn, Calli, Scarlett, Connor, McKenna, Aubrey, Hadley, Amaira, Archie, Ez, Amiyah; and his lifelong friend since the 4th grade, Richard Simmons (Linda).

Cremation was chosen and a private memorial service will take place at a later date.

Wanda Marie Budke, 67, of Lindsborg, passed away Tuesday, August 20th, 2024 in Salina surrounded by her loved ones. Wanda was born in Hays, on October 11, 1956, a daughter of the late Virgil and Esther (Dechant) Stegman.

On November 6, 1976, Wanda was united in marriage to John Budke at Sacred Heart Cathedral.

She worked for 27 years as a custodian for USD 305. Wanda loved the students and staff.

Her hobbies were painting little figurines, drawing, and sewing. Wanda's biggest passion was shopping and had a way of buying the perfect gift.

She was most proud of her children and grandchildren. She will be remembered by her warm smile, loving heart, and her beautiful brown eyes.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Verlin and Steven Stegman.

Survivors include her husband, John Budke; two daughters, Trena Carlson (Heath), Tammy Livengood (Jon); grandchildren, Tarin, Hadin, Elias, Alina, Leland, Axel; siblings, Zandra Rotrock (Chester), Brenda Nitsch (Danny) and several loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, August 26th at Ryan Mortuary, 137 North Eighth Street, Salina, Kansas 67401, with Fr. John Schmeidler, as officiant. Rosary will begin at 10:45 a.m. Burial will follow in Mt Calvary Cemetery.

Violet Junk, 82, Osborne, Kansas passed away Thursday, August 22 at Parkview Care Center.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Violet was born June 13th, 1942 at her home near Bloomington, KS.&nbsp; She was the youngest child of Margueritte Mary (Roenne) Roadhouse and Charles Roadhouse.&nbsp; Violet attended Bloomington Grade School and graduated from Osborne High School with the class of 1960.

On November 25, 1961 Violet married Fred Junk in the St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Osborne.&nbsp; Violet and Fred were blessed with three children, Mark, Kara and Darrin.&nbsp; They lived on farms in the Corinth and Osborne area before moving to Osborne in 1977.

Violet received a gold bell for her many years of work in the Osborne school district. Violet had a love for reading and she enjoyed planting and working in her garden.&nbsp; She was blessed being a grandma to Caden and Seth Junk, Lily and Sophia Bond and Derrick Junk and being a great grandma to Hayes Junk.

Violet is survived by her children Mark Junk and wife Eva of Hays, KS, Kara Bond of Olathe, KS and Darrin Junk and wife Trish of Wichita, KS.&nbsp; Her Sister Phyllis Arnold of Alton, KS.&nbsp; She is preceded in death by her husband Fred, brothers Charles Roadhouse and Marion Roadhouse.

There will be a visitation held&nbsp;on Sunday August 25, 2024 from 5PM until 7PM&nbsp;at the Rentschler Family Mortuaries in Osborne, KS.&nbsp; There will be a rosary recited&nbsp;at 6:00PM

Violet Junk

&nbsp; &nbsp; Eugene Henry Baumfalk was born August 31, 1935 in Hitchcock County to Alvin and Hannah Pollmann Baumfalk and entered Heaven on August 21, 2024. Alvin passed away when Eugene was only eight years old. Hannah later remarried Harry Hein and two more brothers and a sister were added to the family.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Eugene graduated High School from Culbertson and lived in the Culbertson and the McCook area his entire life. Eugene enlisted in the United States Army in March 1959 and was honorably discharged in July 1960. On November 21, 1964, Eugene married Cleta Riley Felker. Eugene became a father to Donald, Ray and Lori with this marriage and in 1971 Eugene and Cleta welcomed another son, Paul.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Eugene worked at the McCook Meat Packing Company for several years before going into business for himself laying carpet. Gene excelled at this trade and spent many years at it providing for his family. Eugene bowled on a bowling team for many years; 35 years of them with his son, Don. Bowling was one of the loves of his life along with fishing. He was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker and New York Yankee fan and loved to watch them on TV with Cleta. Eugene also loved animals, but the true loves of his life were his children and grandchildren. He spent many hours caring for his grandchildren. Eugene was a kind and loving man with a deep love for his Lord and Savior. He will be deeply missed by his family.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Preceding him in death were his parents, Alvin Baumfalk, Hannah and Harry Hein; brothers, Kenneth Baumfalk, Gerald Hein and Robert Hein; daughter, Lori Hoff; grandson, Jordan Baumfalk and special niece, Jackie Baumfalk.

Eugene Henry Baumfalk (1935-2024)

James G. Srna, 66, Minneapolis, died Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at the Salina Regional Health Center. Jim was born October 17, 1957, in Beloit to Andrew and Hazel (Collins) Srna.&nbsp;

Jim was a 1975 graduate of Minneapolis High School, and he then attended and graduated with Vo-Tech training. He worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation for several years before his health required him to retire.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Tom.

Survivors are his children, James and his wife, April and Amber Garcia; three grandchildren, Jacob, Andrew, and Emberly; and numerous family members; and good friends.

It was Jim’s wishes to be cremated and memorial services for the family will be held at a later date.

Barbara Jean Swearingen, 95, of Salina, Kansas, passed away Friday, August 16th, 2024.

Barbara was born in Scandia, Kansas on November 15, 1928, a daughter of Lois May (Johnson) and Glenn Myron Housholder.

Barb graduated from Scandia High School in 1946.

She was a homemaker, (in the words of Barb) professional goof off, and helped her sons as a bookkeeper in their grain elevator business.

She was also a former Moose Lodge member, VFW Auxiliary, Bridge player and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Salina.

On October 27, 1946, Barb married Glen Swearingen in Scandia, Kansas.

Survivors include her daughter, Darcy Strait (Roger), of Belleville, Kansas; son, Kim Swearingen (Carole), of Maui, Hawaii; and her sister, Nancy Westbrook (Jerry), of Loveland, Colorado.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Glen Swearingen; and grandsons, Daniel and Kyle Strait

Cremation was chosen and no services are planned.

Kerry Lee Walton, 55, of Marquette, KS passed away Friday August 16th at 3:15 pm at Salina Regional Health Center after several months of battling an illness. Kerry was born July 18, 1969, in Macomb, IL to Charles and Bonnie (Riser) Walton.

Kerry was united in marriage to April Wilkewitz on November 21, 1994, in Carthage, IL. Kerry was the proud father of five children: Chelsey (Kodi) McDaniel of Salina, KS, Joshua (Chelsea)Walton of McPherson, KS, Caleb (Maggie) Walton of Riverside, MO, Tessalyn (Simon) Gadberry of Marquette, KS and Gabriel Walton of Marquette, KS. Kerry had five beautiful grandchildren: Carter, Brantley, Treygan, Starla and Emmalyn. Kerry is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Kerry was the middle child between his older brother, Stacy Walton of Plymouth, IL, and younger sister Alice (Walton) Wall of Bardolph, IL and foster sister Gloria (Pettet) Simmons of Macomb, IL. They survive, along with numerous nieces and nephews, several aunts and uncles, cousins and his grandma, Gert Walton of Macomb, IL.

Kerry was a 1987 graduate of Colchester High School in Colchester, IL. He joined the Army in 1987 and served his country until he was honorably discharged in 1998. He proceeded to drive over the road trucks from 1998 until he was disabled by cancer in 2007. Kerry was a proud citizen of Marquette KS for the past 20 years and enjoyed helping coach youth sports and volunteering at Marquette Motorcycle Museum as his health allowed.

Kerry is preceded in death by his mother and father, Uncle Jim Walton and best friends Todd Persinger and Patrick “Potsy” Weber.

Kerry Lee Walton

Jane A. Eikleberry, 88, of Salina, died Sunday, August 18, 2024, in Salina. She was born on November 29, 1935, to Evelyn and Burton Jackson of Barnard, Kansas.

Jane graduated from Barnard High School, where she was Homecoming Queen. She attended Kansas State University and Bethany College. Jane moved to Salina, where she worked for various county offices in the old Saline County Courthouse. She also worked for First National Bank, Morrison Grain, and a debt-collection business.

While working in the courthouse, Jane met Ernest Eikleberry, who she married in 1960. Their daughter, Leslie, was born nearly a year later. Jane loved her family dearly.

Jane enjoyed sewing, French hand sewing, reading, and Chiefs football and Royals baseball. Jane was a member of several Bible study groups and even led one. She also participated in the Piece Makers sewing group at the senior center.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Ernie. She is survived by her daughter, Leslie; her brother, Jere (Elaine); nieces Lori (Jeff) and Jennifer (Tracy) and their families; a number of cousins; and a multitude of friends, including Chuck and Bobbi Shannon, Wayne and Dorothy Owen, and Dan and Janet Sparks.

Visitation is scheduled for 4-8 p.m. Friday, August 23, at Ryan Mortuary, 137 N. Eighth Street, with family in attendance from 5-7 p.m. The funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, August 24, at Ryan Mortuary, with a private burial in the Brookville Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Salina Community Aid Food Bank or Salina Animal Services.

She also worked for First National Bank, Morrison Grain, and a debt-collection business.While working in the courthouse, Jane met Ernest Eikleberry, who she married in 1960. Larry Dwayne Barham, 73, of Abilene, Kansas, passed away Sunday, August 18th, 2024.

Larry was born in Rector, Arkansas on September 21, 1950, a son of Elvia (Davis) Risner and Thomas Allen Barham.

He was a welder for most of his life and retired from Russell Stover Chocolates, working in maintenance.

When he was younger, he wanted to be a professional baseball player. He was also very passionate about fishing.

Survivors include three daughters, Sonya Burgess, of Escondido, California, Tonya Johnson (Christopher), of Salina, Kansas, Alexianna Barham, of Abilene, Kansas; son, Wayne Allen Barham (Reta Hamilton), of Salina, Kansas; his sister, Louisa Johnson (Jimmy), of Killen, Alabama; and best friend of 60 years, James "Jimmy" Bush (Myvan).

He is also survived by grandchildren, Allen Barham, Alisa Cole, Angelica Hinklin, Cevon Johnson, Isaiah Johnson, Daenara Burgess, Angelina Burgess, Rachel Burgess, Tonya Burgess, Christopher Burgess; and great grandchildren, Alyssa Barham, De'trique Barham, Olivia Cole, Wyatt Cole, and Jasper Barham. As well as his ex-wives and the mothers of his children, Virginia Morris Hindman and Billie Jo Barham Watkins plus a multitude of extended family.

Larry played a major role in the lives of his 1st wife's siblings, Danny Morris, Charles Morris (Robin), Donna Johnson, Renia McMillin, Mickey Morris (Denna), Rosie Moore, and Carolyn Burns (Jerry).

He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Ann Milhoan.

A gathering will take place at Tonya's house with a date to be determined.

On Sunday, August 18th, 2024, Charlene Nelson, our loving mother, passed away at the age of 96. She will be sorely missed, for everyone who knew her appreciated her kindness and joy.

Charlene was born October 20th, 1927 in Augusta, KS to Francis and Theodore Davis. She was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. She was baptized June 28th, 1936 and confirmed June 7, 1942. Charlene attended St. John's college in Winfield after going to high school in Wichita. Charlene married Charles Nelson November 9th, 1946; they enjoyed 62 very happy years together.

Charlene is survived by her 3 children: Janice Nelson (Salina), Charles G. Nelson (Mineola, Texas) and Julie Cole and her husband Michael (Beverly). Eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

At mom's request, she would appreciate memorials to be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, Salina, KS. Richard Garry Hake, 82, Concordia, Kansas passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2024. He was born on June 13, 1942 in Esbon, Kansas to Henry “Hank” and Marial “Mae” (Fielder) Hake.

Richard attended Concordia schools and graduated from Concordia High School in 1961. He married Caroline McDaniel and had one son, Randy. They later divorced. He moved to Colorado where he worked as a mechanic, at an auto parts store, and at Colorado Tire.

While living in Colorado he ran a motocross track, and enjoyed attending horse shows, with his companion, Mary. He raised longhorn cattle, including the gentle bull affectionately known as Mr. B. He returned to Concordia to be close to his family in 2017.

Richard enjoyed working on his mowers, collecting eagles and black horses, and tinkering in his garage with his neighbors. He was easy-going, loving, and was most proud of his son and his grandkids. They never got away without hearing an I love you or that they were sure cute.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hank and Mae Hake; siblings, Sherry Drury, Fred Hake, and Angela Hake.

He will be missed by his son, Randy Hake (Michele) of Concordia, KS; grandchildren, Miranda Morrissey (Jimmy) of Jacksonville, FL, Garett Hake (Kelci) of Concordia, KS, Megan Cherney (Kyle), of Concordia, KS; great grandchildren, Jaydin and Madilynn Morrisey, and Kasen and Mavrick Cherney; sister, Dana Ketterman; and significant other, Mary Daniels of Wheat Ridge, CO.

Jack R. Wilson, “Jackie”, age 91, passed away Wednesday August 14, 2024 in rural Jewell, KS. He was born to Jack and Hazel Wilson on August 7, 1933.

Growing up on the farm, Jack developed a love and respect for the land, farm animals, and hard-working farm life, including farming his land, harvesting various crops, baling, custom harvesting, caring for various farm animals, including cattle, in which he was caring for up to his passing,

Within his younger years, he also worked in Kansas City, and also served as the Jewell County Deputy Sherriff. Jack was married to Fawna Arasmith and to this union were blessed with three children; Greg, Bruce, and Ferris. They eventually divorced. Later he married Joann Vanleewan, and to this union were blessed with three children; Melinda, Mark, and Monte.

With the children growing up, grandchildren were entering the family including Megan Cheek (Jeff), Jewell, KS, Bobby Stickler, San Diego, CA, Debbie Bogerty, Virginia, Jerod McMillan (Samantha), Jewell, KS, Lee McMillian (Ingrid), Beloit, KS, Ashley Gerlach (Matt), Clearwater, KS, Kelsie Matta (Adrian) Wichita, KS, Haley Patty (Jason), Benton, KS, Cooper Wilson (Jessica), Lawrence, KS, Dalton Wilson (Kenzie), Manhattan, KS, Josie Krier (Ashton), Beloit, KS, Wade Wilson, Jewell, KS, Lane, Wilson, Jewell, KS, Ashton Cates (Ryan), Jewell, KS, Ali Ernst (Brett), Jewell, KS.

Shirley Jean Berggren, 88 years old, passed away at the Presbyterian Manor on August 14, 2024, after a lengthy illness.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was born June 6, 1936, the daughter of William and Jessie Pfizenmaier.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was raised on a farm near Green.&nbsp;&nbsp;She attended Idylwild school.&nbsp;&nbsp;She attended Clay Center High School and graduated in 1954.&nbsp;

&nbsp;She married her high school sweetheart, David Berggren on December 5, 1954, at the Swedesburg First Lutheran Church north of Clay Center Kansas.

&nbsp;They were blessed with three children: Steven, Susan, and Stephanie.

&nbsp;Shirley’s main joy was spending time with her family.&nbsp;&nbsp;She took pride in taking care of her home and large variety of flowers.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was an active member of Swedesburg Lutheran church participating in the choir, Lutheran women’s group and teaching Sunday school.&nbsp;&nbsp;Singing hymns was one of her favorite past times.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was a member of the Clay County Arts Council. She always looked forward to her time spent with friends and maintained many long-lasting friendships.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings: Maxine Friederich, Mary Ellen Kretz, Harvey Pfizenmaier, and Paul Pfizenmaier.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was also preceded in death by her son Steven in 1998.&nbsp;

Aaron Dean Catlin went to heaven on August 15, 2024.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was born August 2, 1934, near Aurora, Kansas to Harry Keith and Irene (Winsett) Catlin.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was raised on a farm southwest of Miltonvale.&nbsp;&nbsp;Thus began his life of farming, which started with the use of horses one in particular (Prince).&nbsp;&nbsp;He attended one room schoolhouses, including Grass Valley, which still remains on his homestead. He attended Miltonvale Rural High School and graduated in 1952.&nbsp;&nbsp;He attended Ft. Hays State College for 1 year studying auto mechanics and welding.&nbsp;&nbsp;Dean worked at several off the farm jobs in their early years of marriage, including measuring acres for the FSA department. His passion was farming.&nbsp;&nbsp;He would say if retiring is doing what you love, I’ve been retired my whole life, because I love farming.

Dean’s two most important decisions in his life was when he chose to accept Jesus and joined the church and when he asked Diana Beauregard to marry him.&nbsp;&nbsp;They were married October 22, 1953, in St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Miltonvale. Dean was an outstanding athlete and musician. His high school football team went undefeated during his sophomore through senior year.&nbsp;&nbsp;Dean was the halfback and once scored four touchdowns in the first half of a game.&nbsp;&nbsp;He never boasted and gave the credit to his blockers.&nbsp;&nbsp;In early years he was an avid coyote hunter and enjoyed many lifelong friendships.&nbsp;&nbsp;Dean &amp; Diana were great dancers and enjoyed the fellowship of many great friends in their lifetime. He taught his children many life lessons, but most importantly how family was everything.

Preceding him in death were his wife Diana, parents, brother &amp; sister-in-law Harry (Bub) &amp; Fay Catlin, sister-in-law Dora Mae Lister and husband Carl, brother-in-law Albert Lee, granddaughters Erin &amp; Elisha Brummet.

Left to celebrate his life include son Dan Catlin, Miltonvale, daughters Debra Catlin and fiancé Dan Cyre, Miltonvale, and Darla (Bryan) Bebber, Miltonvale.&nbsp;&nbsp;Grandchildren Chris (Melissa) McNeil Miltonvale, Lindsey Forslund, Miltonvale, Kansas, Nate (Skylar) Brummet, Miltonvale, Nick Brummet, Miltonvale.&nbsp;&nbsp;Step Grandchildren; Maryssa (AJ) Lewis, Hillsboro, Kansas, Cassie (Mitch Jensen) Lagroon, Wichita,&nbsp;&nbsp;James Bebber, Houston, Texas, BeyLee Brummet, Lincoln, Ks, Lauren Brummet, Cawker City, Ks, and Colby Ensign, Miltonvale, Ks.

Aaron Dean Catlin

Violet C. Mermis, age 92, of Salina, Kansas, passed away on August 17,2024. She was born on September 16, 1931, in Munjor, Kansas, to Alex W. Klaus and Adeline Leiker. Violet was a cherished resident of Salina since 1954, having previously lived in McCook, Nebraska.

Violet married Robert W. Mermis on June 18, 1952, in Severin, Kansas. She was a dedicated sales associate at JC Penney Co. for 10 years, retiring in 1996, and also worked as a teller at First State Bank of Salina. Her commitment to her community was evident through her roles as Past President of St. John’s Hospital Auxiliary, St. Mary’s Guild, RSVP, Salina Regional Health Center Auxiliary, Meals on Wheels Program, and the Municipal Ladies Golf Association. Violet was a devout member of St. Mary’s Church.

She is survived by her loving husband, Robert W. Mermis, and their children: Michael Mermis (Watauga, TX), Greg Mermis (Kansas City, MO), Patricia Bluhm (Austin, TX), and Marjorie Horton (Derby, KS). Violet is also survived by her sisters Velma Pfannestiel, and Lillian Schlyer of Hays, KS. She leaves behind six grandchildren: Becky Quigley (Great Bend, KS), Chris Vroom (Fort Worth, TX), Katie Horton (Wichita, KS), Beth Horton (Wichita, KS), Elke Mermis (Evergreen, CO), and Shae Mermis (Brooklyn, NY).

A Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Church with burial to follow at Mt Calvary Cemetery at a later date. Luella Jean Marrs, 89 died July 4, 2024, in Clay Center, KS. &nbsp;She was born on December 8, 1934, in Clay County, the daughter of Frank and Sylvia (Murphy) Schoneweis. &nbsp;Luella was a graduate of the Class of 1953 from Longford High School. &nbsp;She attended nursing school in Halstead, graduating in 1957. &nbsp;Luella married Leslie Marrs on Feb 23, 1958. &nbsp;He preceded her in death on August 15, 1996. &nbsp;She worked as a nurse at the Clay Center hospital for one year.

 &nbsp;Luella spent the rest of her nursing career at the Ottawa County Hospital until her retirement in 1999. &nbsp;After her retirement, she made her home in Clay Center. &nbsp;Luella was a member of the Wells United Methodist Church and attended the Emmanuel Independent Baptist Church in Clay Center. She enjoyed organizing family reunions and high school reunions through the years. &nbsp;Luella was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Harold Schoneweis.

Luella Jean Marrs

Leasial William Orndoff, 72, passed away in Ellinwood, Kansas on August 7th, 2024. Born October 17, 1951 in Marshall, Arkansas he was the son of John Wesley and Eugenie May (Lea) Orndoff. Leasial spent decades working in the oilfield before retirement. He married Patricia Ann (Hammersmith) Collins on September 10, 2010. She survives of the home in Ellinwood, Kansas. Other survivors include sons, Shawn Orndoff, Columbus, OH and James Orndoff, Lake Charles, LA; stepchildren, William and Roger Collins, Kelly Baker, Tracy Menges, Patty Collins; grandchildren, Chase, Jarah, Lane, Karter, and Kamryn Orndoff and many step-grandchildren. Leasial also had 7 siblings and was preceded in death by his parents.

Cremation has taken place. Memorials are suggested towards the Ellinwood Food Bank in care of Minnis Chapel, PO Box 246, Ellinwood, KS 67526.&nbsp;

With the passing of George (Ray) Raymond Poague on August 12th, 2024, we lost a man of many passions. He was not only a loving husband but a loving proud father to his children. Raymond was born August 29th, 1940, to Jack and Hilma Poague. Ray was the youngest of nine children his mother died when he was three. His Aunt Helen Swanson stepped up to the plate to raise him and his siblings. She was a special Aunt to them all.

Ray was raised in Salina Kansas his entire life. He was a graduate of Salina High School class of 1958. Ray worked many jobs in his life, he was a true jack-of-all-trades. His favorite job was the time he spent working for Salina Auto Salvage. He retired from O.C.C.K.

Ray first married at 22, with three great children coming from this union. Ray later remarried on August 20, 1976, to the love of his life Joyce Hill. He received two beautiful daughters to complete his family. Joyce left this world on February 6th, 2001. They are happily together again in overwhelming joy. They will spend their 48th&nbsp;anniversary together.

Besides his belly button birthday, he celebrated 50 years of sobriety. Ray was a member of the IOOF Lodge where he served several years as the Grand Poobah. Calling bingo and spending time with his lodge buddies were his favorite memories.

Ray lived a full happy life. He loved getting his morning coffee at Burger King and Cruising around Salina. He loved bowling with friends and coworkers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Eldon and Bill; five sisters, Lois, Pat, Becky, Maggie, and Mary; his fun-loving daughter Jeanie Best; and three grandchildren Samantha, Breanna, and Jesus.

Raymond is survived by one son, Danny Raymond Poague; three daughters Jean Michelle Jacobs, Husband Rick; Linda Rea Crook and her special friend Shelby; Tammy Trepoy and husband Fat Jimmy; Brother, John Poague of Salina; Six grandchildren Danielle Flanagan, Jordan Poague, Taylor Poague, Penny, Jackie, and Meredith Best; and six great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.

A graveside service will be held Friday August 16th, 2024, at Gypsum Hill Cemetery at 1:00 p.m.

George (Ray) Raymond Poague

Richard Werner, 92, died August 9, 2024, at Via Christi in Hays, Kansas. He was born May 25, 1932, in Plainville, Kansas, the son of Joseph and Nettie (Larson) Werner.

Richard was united in marriage to Rosella (Garvert) Werner on December 29, 1952, and to the union seven children were born: Doug, Dave, Rick, Kenneth, Debbie, Jeff and Rusty. She preceded his death on January 31, 1997. He later married Judy Meitler, on February 14, 1998, in Colorado.

Richard attended St. Joseph Miliary Academy and Plainville High School and later joined the United States Air Force and was stationed in Wichita Falls, TX. He retired from Farmland as an oil purchaser. He had a love of planes and was a pilot; and during his time in the Air Force, he worked on planes and served as an instructor.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Plainville Kansas.

Survivors include his wife, Judy; six sons: Doug Werner and wife Mary of Fort Scott, Kansas, Dave Werner of Hays, Kansas, Rick Werner and wife Karen of Plainville, Kansas, Kenneth Werner and wife Amelia of Hays, Kansas, Jeff Werner and wife Sami of Codell, Kansas, and Rusty Werner and wife Marianne of Codell, Kansas; one daughter Debra Bruhl and husband Dallas of Salina, Kansas; brother, Vernon Werner of Flagler, CO; sister, Mary Lee (Eddie) Schmidtberger of Pratt, KS; sisters-in-laws, Irene Fellhoelter, Loretta Hinca, Lavonne Werner, Jacki Werner all of Plainville; Judy’s children, Teresa, Gaylene, Kaylene, Rod and Terry; 18 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great granddaughter.

He joins in his heavenly home his parents; first wife Rosella Werner; siblings, Joseph Werner, Leonard (Lucille) Werner, Donald (Ann) Werner, and Ronald Werner; sister-in-law, Nancy Werner, Kathryn Creevan; and brother-in-law, Robert Garvert.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, August 16, 2024, at 10:00 AM, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Plainville. Inurnment with Military Honors will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Plainville. Visitation will be held on Thursday at 6:00 PM with a Vigil and Rosary Service at 7:00 PM at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Plainville.

He had a love of planes and was a pilot; and during his time in the Air Force, he worked on planes and served as an instructor.He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Plainville Kansas.Survivors include his wife, Judy; six sons: Doug Werner and wife Mary of Fort Scott, Kansas, Dave Werner of Hays, Kansas, Rick Werner and wife Karen of Plainville, Kansas, Kenneth Werner and wife Amelia of Hays, Kansas, Jeff Werner and wife Sami of Codell, Kansas, and Rusty Werner and wife Marianne of Codell, Kansas; one daughter Debra Bruhl and husband Dallas of Salina, Kansas; brother, Vernon Werner of Flagler, CO; sister, Mary Lee (Eddie) Schmidtberger of Pratt, KS; sisters-in-laws, Irene Fellhoelter, Loretta Hinca, Lavonne Werner, Jacki Werner all of Plainville; Judy’s children, Teresa, Gaylene, Kaylene, Rod and Terry; 18 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great granddaughter.He joins in his heavenly home his parents; first wife Rosella Werner; siblings, Joseph Werner, Leonard (Lucille) Werner, Donald (Ann) Werner, and Ronald Werner; sister-in-law, Nancy Werner, Kathryn Creevan; and brother-in-law, Robert Garvert.A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, August 16, 2024, at 10:00 AM, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Plainville. Inurnment with Military Honors will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Plainville.
