Rex Schultze passed away on April 3, 2026 at the Osborne County Memorial Hospital at the age of 93. Rex was born on April 15, 1932 on a farm east of Natoma to Reginald and Mildred (Bealby) Schultze. Rex attended school in Covert and Natoma, graduating from Natoma High School in 1950. He married his high school sweetheart Rita Clark after five years of dating on May 25, 1952. Wherever the wildflowers were blooming, he would bring a bouquet of flowers home for his bride. They enjoyed 73 years and 11 months of married life together. To this union, two children were born, Bill and Connie.
They started their life together living in Covert and Rex worked in the oil field for a short time. In 1955 they moved to the farm, where they spent many great years. Then later making their new home in Osborne in 1991. He made daily trips to the farm offering advice along with a story from the past. During this time, he took great pride in developing his select cattle herd, riding his horses, and working the land. He was a member of the Kansas Livestock Association for over 50 years.
He made his life ranching and farming but was especially proud of his family. Always pulling out his phone and showing pictures of his family and random things to whoever he could. He never knew a stranger and would strike up conversations with anybody. One of his hobbies was whittling anything he could out of a piece of wood. During his later years he enjoyed working in the garden with shovels and also using shovels to make birds (even some in bikinis). He never lost his sense of humor or his ornieness and his presence lightened the room. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Rex is survived by his wife Rita of the home, daughter Connie (Kim) Moore, daughter-in-law Beth Schultze, Grandchildren Angie (Jerrad) Goheen, Eric (Lindy) Schultze, Bryan (Amanda) Schultze, Tyler (Chelsea) Schultze, all of Osborne; Amy (Brandon) Miller, Phillipsburg; Jeff (Julie) Moore, Manhattan; Traci (Seth) Johnson, Green; and sixteen great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Reginald and Mildred, son Bill, and brother Roger and sister-in-law Levetta.
Celebration of life services will be held at 10:30AM Tuesday April 7, 2026 at the Free Methodist Church in Osborne, KS.
Interment will follow in the Osborne Cemetery, Osborne, KS.
The family has requested in lieu of flowers contributions be made to the Osborne Couty Fair Association for Arena Improvements and can be sent in care of the mortuary.
