Lane Hoffman, 28, of St. Francis, Kansas, passed away on March 1, 2025. A proud Marine veteran, loving husband, and cherished son, Lane was known for his infectious laugh, incredible sense of humor, and ability to light up any room he entered.

Born March 31, 1996, in Hays, Kansas, to Jennifer (Blair) and the late Joseph Hoffman, Jr., Lane graduated from St. Francis High School and went on to earn his associate's degree from Goodland Community College. From 2014 to 2018, Lane served his country with distinction in the United States Marine Corps, where he achieved the rank of Sergeant, exemplifying the Corps' values of honor, courage, and commitment. He served two tours of duty in Iraq.

Following his military service, Lane built his career as a grain merchandiser at Scoular, where his work ethic and infectious personality made him a beloved member of the team. He lived life to the fullest, finding joy in every moment and making the most of his time with loved ones. Whether he was hunting, fishing, competing in car derbies, or simply gathering with friends and family for an evening of laughter and storytelling, Lane had a gift for turning ordinary moments into unforgettable memories. His greatest happiness came from the time spent with those he loved, and his warm presence and quick wit could brighten even the darkest day.

On September 21, 2024, Lane married the love of his life, Sydney, beginning what should have been a lifetime of shared dreams and adventures. Their bond was a true testament to the existence of lasting, genuine love. Together, they shared countless memories and dreams for the future. Lane never wavered in his devotion to Sydney, always prioritizing her happiness and doing everything possible to build the family they dreamed of. Lane was also a proud and loving “dog dad” to their two dogs, Sage and Slate, who brought him immense joy and companionship. Life may have had other plans, but Lane will forever be remembered for his love, loyalty, and dedication to those around him.

Lane is survived by his beloved wife, Sydney (McAdoo) Hoffman; his mother, Jennifer Blair, and stepfather, Dan Blair of St. Francis; grandma Marti Schlittenhardt of St. Francis; grandpa Joe Hoffman and grandma Kelly of Rozel; and grandma Debbie McDaniel and Gary of Garden City. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Hoffman, Jr., and grandpa Danny Schlittenhardt.

A celebration of Lane's life will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at 10:30 AM at Peace Lutheran Church in St. Francis, Kansas, with a meal immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to The Lane Hoffman Memorial Fund.

Lane's bright spirit, contagious laughter, unwavering dedication to his country, and deep love for his family and friends will be forever remembered by all who knew him. He showed us all how to live life to its fullest, find joy in the simple moments, and treasure the time spent with loved ones. Semper Fi.

Olin Dean Collicott, 80, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2025 at Salina Regional Health Center.  He was born to Stacey and Fleta Collicott on February 2, 1945 in Great Bend, Kansas.  

He served in the United States Army Reserves from 1965 to 1971.  One of Olin’s proudest moments was marching with his unit in President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s funeral in April 1969.  

Olin worked as a machinist for 30 years at SEMCO in Great Bend before moving to Salina, Kansas in 1995 where he worked at Exline until he retired.

On October 14, 2001, he married Dianne Downing.  Together, they enjoyed fishing, traveling and spending time with family and friends.   

Olin loved to tinker in his garage.  Over the years, he rebuilt numerous Ford classic cars, including a '65 and '66 Mustang, a '56 Thunderbird, a '57 Ford Custom and a ‘56 F100.  He loved going to car shows and won multiple awards for his cars.    

He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Dianne, his children, Christy (Rex) Watts of Strong City, KS, Christopher (Stacey) of Lawrence, KS, and Stacey (Paul) Morgan of Louisville, KY, his brother, Larry of Wichita, KS, his sister, Janice Beehler of Wichita, KS, and many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.  

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 7, 2025, at Ryan Mortuary in Salina, KS.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Olin’s honor may be sent to Tammy Walker Cancer Center or the Alzheimer's Association, in care of Ryan Mortuary.

Terry Lee Ulrich, 71, passed away on February 26, 2025 at her home in Salina, Ks surrounded by her family. She was born on November 1, 1953 in Colby, Ks to Ross and Scharlett (Rodgers) Weber.&nbsp;

She was a longtime resident of Salina for over 40 years. She retired from Asurion.&nbsp;

She is preceded in death by her husband, William Ulrich Jr., father, Ross Weber, granddaughter, Hannah Seal, and sister,&nbsp;Scharla&nbsp;Weber.&nbsp;

She is survived by her mother, Scharlett Weber, son, Cory Ulrich (Rachelle), four daughters; Michele Terry (Kevin), Kristen Cell (Sammy), Tara Helsel (Harry “Taz”), Billie Witt (Joe), two brothers, Rod Weber, and Ross Weber Sr (Louann), two sisters; Vickie Shaver (Ned), and Torrie Jones (Shane), 16 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren.&nbsp;

Karl Douglas “Doug” Musick, of Salina, Kansas, passed away February 21, 2025. He was born on August 20, 1946, in McPherson, Kansas, to Donald Musick and Anna Maebelle (Shroeder) Musick. He graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in anthropology in 1968.

Doug joined the Army in 1968 and served in the Infantry until 1975 with tours in both Vietnam and Germany. He left the Army as a captain with multiple awards and recognitions which included Bronze Stars, Purple Heart, and Combat Infantry Badge.

After leaving the Army, Doug attended and graduated from the gunsmith program at Colorado School of the Trades in Lakewood, Colorado. He moved to Concordia, Kansas, where he worked for the KNCK Radio Station for many years where his voice was very recognizable. He managed Constructive Playthings until they closed in the early 90’s. He also owned his own business, KBM Technologies, where he supplied internet and website design services.

In 1988, Doug married Betty (Alcorn) DeWitt in Concordia, Kansas and gained three stepsons. Doug and Betty continued to live in Concordia and were active in the local VFW post, eventually becoming State Commander for the state of Kansas. Together they enjoyed traveling and throughout Kansas representing veterans in their roles. They relocated to Salina in 2006.

Doug was proceeded in death by his parents; wife, Betty; and nephew, Ryan Wilhm. He is survived by his sister, Deb Wilhm, Bentonville, AR; nephew, Brandon Wilhm, Austin, TX; stepsons, Steve DeWitt (Barb), Bennington, John DeWitt, Salina, Dennis DeWitt (Jennifer), Abilene; granddaughters, Ashley Hekele (Jason), Olathe, Chelsey Giambrone (Collin), Olathe; grandsons, Tyler DeWitt (Krista), Salina, Eli DeWitt, Abilene; great-granddaughters, Allison LaValette, Olathe, Reagan DeWitt, Salina, Freya Giambrone, Olathe, Amelia Giambrone, Olathe; great-grandson, and Paxton DeWitt, Salina.

Michelle, a current resident of Salina coming from Hays and Ellis, served faithfully as a county appraiser for Ness and Ellis counties. &nbsp;She enjoyed scrapbooking&nbsp;and dove wholeheartedly into anything that her kids or grandkids were doing, from storm chasing to motorcycle and four-wheeler riding. &nbsp;Not only was Michelle survived by children of her own, but she was also considered a second mom to so many more. &nbsp;

Survivors include her soul mate, Randy Ferguson of Salina;&nbsp;five sons,&nbsp;Cody Jarmer&nbsp;(Kymber Reinert)&nbsp;of Larned, Derrick Jarmer of Ness City, Austin Ferguson of Salina, Dalton Ferguson of Salina, and Cole Ferguson of Salina;&nbsp;two daughters,&nbsp;Caitlyn Ferguson of Lyons&nbsp;and Mary Ferguson of Salina;&nbsp;two sisters,&nbsp;Jacqueline Lang&nbsp;(Randy)&nbsp;of Hays&nbsp;and Laura Geschwenter&nbsp;(Jeffrey)&nbsp;of Ellis; and by 13 grandchildren.

Jo was born in Sedalia, Missouri on August 10, 1940, a daughter of Nola Irene (Crouch) and Joseph Oscar Smith.

Survivors include her two daughters, Jacqueline Pinnix, of Woodbridge, Virginia, Adrienne Ross, of Dumfries, Virginia; two sons, Charles Ross (Phyllis), of Salina, Kansas, Ahnrique Ross (Lucy), of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; 12 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 11 great great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Nola and Joseph Smith; son, Joel Ross; 5 brothers; and 7 sisters.

Jo's wishes were to be cremated and a Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, March 7th at Living Word International Ministries in Salina, with Pastor Margaret Davison officiating.

Marty was born January 29, 1956, in Russell, Kansas. He was the son of LaVern H. and Elaine L. (Karst) Becker. He grew up in the Milberger area, attended Lincoln Rural Elementary School and graduated from Russell High School in the Class of 1974. He then attended Ft. Hays State University.

Marty met, fell in love, and was united in marriage to Susan R. Schmidt on November 25, 1978, at the United Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Milberger. This union was blessed with two children; Ryan and Megan. They made their home in rural Russell.

Marty was a devoted Farmer and Stockman. He hauled livestock for many years. He was an active member of the United Emmanuel Lutheran Church and served as Chairman of the UELC Church Council for many years. He served on the Russell County 4-H Fair Board, the Board of Directors of the Great Bend Coop from 2011 to 2019, and Russell County Farm Bureau. His love of farming was both a career and a hobby. He was an avid K-State football and KC Chiefs fan. His favorite holiday was 4th of July and he built a tradition of celebrating it with family and friends. He enjoyed playing cards &amp; games, and fishing with his family and grandchildren. He especially enjoyed being a part of his grandchildren’s lives and activities. Marty was a great Husband, Father, Papa and Friend.

Marty’s surviving family include his wife of 46 years, Susan of the home; son, Ryan Martin Becker (Micah) of Russell, Kansas; daughter, Megan Susanne Becker of Omaha, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Riley Marie Becker, Reagan Grace Becker, Elijah Martin Becker and Silas Emmanuel Becker; mother-in- law, Alice Schmidt of Russell, Kansas; brothers-in-law, Phillip Schmidt (Vickie) of Seiling, Oklahoma and Gregory Schmidt of Prairie Village, Kansas; sisters-in-law, Shelley Dougherty of Eudora, Kansas and Margie Schmidt of Russell, Kansas.

Marty was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Janet Funk; father-in-law, Richard Schmidt; brothers-in-law, Rick Dougherty, and Wayne Funk; sister-in-law, Annette Gerstner; and niece, Kapryce Schmidt.

Celebration of Marty’s Life will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, March 10, 2025, at the United Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Milberger. Burial will follow at the United Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Milberger. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Sunday, March 9, 2025, at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Martin Robert Becker

Victor Leroy Dumler, 99, of Salina, Kansas and former Milberger, Kansas, resident, died on Friday, February 28, 2025, at the Brookdale Assisted Living Center in Salina, Kansas.

Victor was born on June 23, 1925, in Russell County, Kansas, the son of George and Emma (Wegele) Dumler. He grew up in the Milberger and Russell County, Kansas area and attended country schools. He served his country and joined the United States Army during World War II from 1944 to 1946 serving as a Tech sergeant in the Philippines and Japan. After returning home from the military, he was united in marriage to Viola Rosetta Niedens on December 08, 1946, in Milberger, Kansas. From this union Victor and Viola were blessed with 3 children Darrell, Donna and Wanda. They raised their children on the Dumler family farm where Victor enjoyed taking care of his fields and cattle. He was a lifetime member of the United Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Milberger. He was also a member of the men’s church club, ASCS and V.F.W. Post #6240. He enjoyed World War II history, fishing, tending to his fields and cattle, traveling with his wife Viola and enjoyed his work for the ASCS (FSA) office, mapping the county. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Surviving family include his daughters Donna Bitter and husband Jerry of Garden City, Kansas and Wanda Radke and husband Dennis of Salina, Kansas; five grandchildren, Tracy, Darren, Jason, Ryan and Gregg; and 11 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Viola on April 17, 2020, son Darrell Dumler; his brothers Paul, Ben, Solomon and Alvin Dumler and sisters Bertha Krug and Agnes Radke.

A service of Victor’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, March 06, 2025, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell, Kansas. Burial will follow at the Milberger Cemetery in Milberger, Kansas. Military rites will be presented by the Ft. Riley Honor Guard. The family will greet guests on the day of the service at the mortuary. Memorials may be given to the D.A.V. (Disabled American Veterans) and sent in care of the mortuary. Anna was born on May 28th, 1987 in Wichita, Kansas. She was adopted the same day by Ruth and Leslie Hindman. Anna attended schools in Salina, Kansas. She was a happy child and liked to play with the children in Ruth's Home Day Care. She was a good student and loved to read. She also liked to sing and draw pictures of animals (especially dogs). She had dogs and a guinea pig at home as pets. She also attended dancing school and liked to play the piano. Collecting Beanie Babies and traveling with Mom and Dad were hobbies of hers.

As school progressed, she had problems with her vision and growth. She was tested by a variety of medical doctors. It was determined she had Retinitis Pigmentosa which would lead to blindness. She would also have Kearns-Sayre Syndrome and experience muscle weakness, deafness, kidney problems, cardiac problems, short stature and dementia.

Anna continued school at the Kansas School for the Blind in Kansas City. She learned to manage her handicap by learning Braille and how to get around with a walking cane. She graduated high school in 2005. She went to the KSDS Assistance Dog program to learn how to manage her service dog, Kovu.

Anna returned to Salina to attend classes at K-State Salina and Kansas Wesleyan University and received her Bachelor’s Degree in 2010. As her disease progressed, she worked with her dad who had a computer business in the home. She spent the rest of her time at home until her health declined. Anna's father passed away in 2017. She lived at home with her mom until entering Smokey Hill in September 2024.

Survivors include her mother, Ruth Hindman; aunts and uncles, Rebecca Behrends (Bill), Dale Janzen (Della), Steve Janzen (Toni), Ed Hindman (Cindy), and Debbie Hindman-Zook.

She is also survived by many cousins and friends.

Anna is preceded in death by her father, Les Hindman; brother, Paul David Hindman; grandparents, Paul and Marian Hindman, Frank and Irma Janzen; and uncle, David Hindman.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Kansas School for the Blind in Kansas City, Kansas. Or to KSDS Assistance Dogs, Inc. in Washington, Kansas.

Anna Hindman

Sarah Anne (Toburen) Lindblad, 85, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2025, in Lindsborg, Kansas.  Born on June 9, 1939, in Orlando, Oklahoma, Sarah grew up in a home filled with faith as the daughter of a preacher. Her upbringing instilled in her a deep love for the church and a steadfast devotion to her beliefs. Her faith provided strength during difficult times, moments of joyous celebration, and a sense of community throughout it all.

Sarah dedicated her life to teaching and nurturing young minds. She began her career at Grace E. Stewart Elementary School, where she taught until the birth of her second child, Jason. Later, when her daughter Jenny was in school, she returned to teaching at Southeast of Saline, where she remained until her retirement. She was a beloved educator who touched the lives of countless students and fellow teachers with her kindness and passion for learning.

Music was an integral part of Sarah’s life. She was an active choir member throughout college at Kansas Wesleyan University and carried that love forward by leading children’s choirs in Sunday school and Bible school. She also directed and participated in the adult church choir, sharing her gift of music with those around her.

Sarah’s warmth and generosity were evident in every aspect of her life. She radiated kindness with a beautiful smile and was always ready to offer one of her famous hugs. The friendships she formed were abundant. There were very few things she valued more than the love of her friends.

She is survived by her daughter Jenny Casey and son-in-law Tom; cherished grandsons Caleb and Joshua; as well as her in-laws Winona, Dodie, Shirley, and David, along with several nieces and nephews who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years, James Lindblad; son Jason Lindblad; parents Les Toburen and Lily (Mengedoth) Toburen; stepmother Cecil Toburen; and brothers Gerald (Toby) and Les Jr.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on March 15, 2025, at 10:30 AM at Assaria Lutheran Church, 124 W First St., Assaria, Kansas. A light meal will be served in the community life room following the service, with a private interment to follow.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Sarah’s memory are encouraged to share a smile with a stranger, embrace loved ones with a warm hug, support a teacher by providing classroom supplies or books, play a song that touches the soul, plant something beautiful in her honor, or worship in whatever way brings peace—just as Sarah would have wanted. William Edward Vaupel, 98, of Salina, passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2025.&nbsp; He was born on January 11, 1927, to William H. and Stella M. (Yockers) Vaupel, in Salina.&nbsp; Bill attended Solomon High School and joined the United State Naval Corp before graduating.&nbsp; After the military he joined the Salina Fire Department where he retired as a Platoon Chief after 31 years of service. &nbsp;

He enjoyed camping with friends, was a member of the Good Sam RV &amp; Travel Club, was an outdoor sportsman, and loved wintering in Arizona in his RV with his wife Ellen.&nbsp; He was a devoted husband and father to his surviving sons: William Vaupel Jr., Gary Vaupel (Tamra), and Ronald Vaupel (Suzanne); with six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

William Edward Vaupel

Michael Dean Shoemaker, Colonel, US Air Force (Retired), passed away peacefully and surrounded by family at the age of 77, on Saturday, February 15, 2025, in Nashville, TN. Mike was born October 20, 1947, in Kansas City, MO and was adopted by Carl and Wilma (Wallace) Shoemaker and raised in Minneapolis, Kansas.

He graduated from Minneapolis High School in 1965 and then from Kansas State University.&nbsp; He was commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force in the early 1970s and trained as a Weapons Systems Officer (WSO) in the F-4 Phantom II.&nbsp; His first two operational assignments were in Taiwan and the Philippines.&nbsp; He met his wife of 48 years, Denice, when she visited her sister – a wife of Mike’s squadron mate – in Spain.&nbsp; They married in 1976.&nbsp; Around this time, Mike graduated from the US Air Force’s elite Fighter Weapons School and was stationed in the Netherlands and United Kingdom – flying from bases all over Europe and the Middle East. 

Throughout his career, Mike and his family were stationed at the Air Force Academy; the Pentagon; Randolf AFB, TX; and Scott AFB, IL. After being promoted to “Full Bird” Colonel,&nbsp;Mike concluded his career commanding a NATO group in Paris, France. While in Paris, he often surprised the French with his thick accent and large Chevy Suburban. After he retired from the Air Force, he worked as a Sales Executive for Alloy Surfaces, near Philadelphia, until 2012, supplying missile-distracting flares to all branches of the U.S. military and its allies.&nbsp; During his fourteen-year career with Alloy Surfaces, he traveled the world, interacted with officials at the highest levels, and loved to hear from US aviators about how these flares “saved their lives.”&nbsp; In retirement, Mike was a lover of music, guitars, classic cars, Nashville, and his hometown of Minneapolis, KS.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Carrie Shoemaker, an Ensign in the US Navy who was tragically killed by a drunk driver, and son-in-law, Ronald Luce, a US Army Special Forces officer, who lost his life in combat in Afghanistan.&nbsp;

Mike Shoemaker is survived by his wife of 48 years, DeeDee; children, Michael, Matthew, Kendahl, and Ashley; brother, Charles “Chuck” Shoemaker; grandchildren, Carrie Ella, Aidan, and Theodore.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Friday, March 7, at Wilson Family Funeral Home, 405 Argyle Ave., Minneapolis, KS 67467.  </figure>Michael Dean Shoemaker, Colonel, US Air Force (Retired), passed away peacefully and surrounded by family at the age of 77, on Saturday, February 15, 2025, in Nashville, TN. Mike was born October 20, 1947, in Kansas City, MO and was adopted by Carl and Wilma (Wallace) Shoemaker and raised in Minneapolis, Kansas.He graduated from Minneapolis High School in 1965 and then from Kansas State University.&nbsp; He was commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force in the early 1970s and trained as a Weapons Systems Officer (WSO) in the F-4 Phantom II.&nbsp; His first two operational assignments were in Taiwan and the Philippines.&nbsp; He met his wife of 48 years, Denice, when she visited her sister – a wife of Mike’s squadron mate – in Spain.&nbsp; They married in 1976.&nbsp; Around this time, Mike graduated from the US Air Force’s elite Fighter Weapons School and was stationed in the Netherlands and United Kingdom – flying from bases all over Europe and the Middle East. Throughout his career, Mike and his family were stationed at the Air Force Academy; the Pentagon; Randolf AFB, TX; and Scott AFB, IL. After being promoted to “Full Bird” Colonel,&nbsp;Mike concluded his career commanding a NATO group in Paris, France. While in Paris, he often surprised the French with his thick accent and large Chevy Suburban. After he retired from the Air Force, he worked as a Sales Executive for Alloy Surfaces, near Philadelphia, until 2012, supplying missile-distracting flares to all branches of the U.S. military and its allies.&nbsp; During his fourteen-year career with Alloy Surfaces, he traveled the world, interacted with officials at the highest levels, and loved to hear from US aviators about how these flares “saved their lives.”&nbsp; In retirement, Mike was a lover of music, guitars, classic cars, Nashville, and his hometown of Minneapolis, KS.He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Carrie Shoemaker, an Ensign in the US Navy who was tragically killed by a drunk driver, and son-in-law, Ronald Luce, a US Army Special Forces officer, who lost his life in combat in Afghanistan.&nbsp;Mike Shoemaker is survived by his wife of 48 years, DeeDee; children, Michael, Matthew, Kendahl, and Ashley; brother, Charles “Chuck” Shoemaker; grandchildren, Carrie Ella, Aidan, and Theodore.The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Friday, March 7, at Wilson Family Funeral Home, 405 Argyle Ave., Minneapolis, KS 67467. Amy Lynnette Flesher, 54, of Salina, passed away at Salina Regional Health Center on Saturday February 22nd, 2025, surrounded by her three Daughters and her oldest granddaughter. She was Born in Bellefontaine, Ohio on March 8th, 1970.

She was adopted by Robert and Lois Gillham in Ohio shortly after birth and later the family re-located to Kansas.

Amy graduated from Salina South High School in 1988.

Survivors include her Daughters: Hannah, Jurissicca (Meghan), Alissa and son Camryn. Her ten beloved Grandchildren Jadda, Abel, Kasyn, Kayleigh, Ellie, Christopher, Maxin, Alexis, Kimberly, Kaylee. And Brothers Curtis (Leann), Robert and Dustin. Along with some aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her Father Robert Gillham in 2000, Her husband Robert Flesher in 2007, her Mother Lois Haug in 2020, and her stepfather Terry Haug in 2022.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, March 14, 20254 at 1:00 PM in the Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Inurnment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Salina, KS. Memorials may be made to her daughter, Alissa Culifer to assist with funeral expenses.

Amy Lynnette Flesher

Stephen Collister Ryan, 83, of Salina, passed away Monday, February 24, 2025. The eldest of four boys, he was born to the late Kenneth Richard and Janys Collister Ryan on January 10, 1942, in St. John's Hospital, Salina. He was an active lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church. Steve married Lynne Kathryn Slease on June 18, 1966, in the East Heights United Methodist Church, Wichita, Kansas.

A member of the Class of 1960, Salina High School, he earned six athletic letters in football, basketball and track. He was the right tackle on the Mustangs first undefeated football team in 1959.

Steve attended the University of Kansas and received a BS degree in Business Administration in 1964 and a Certificate of Graduation from the Mortuary Science Program at the KU Medical Center, Kansas City, KS in 1965. He was a cadet member of the Air Force ROTC program (The Flying Jayhawks). He was also a member of the Arnold Air Society, Alpha Kappa Psi and the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity.

He received his Air Force officer's commission upon completion of the Summer Training Unit at Schilling AFB, in Salina, KS, on July 10th, 1964. Ryan served as Wing Administrative Officer, 351st Strategic Missile Wing (SAC), Whiteman AFB, Mo, (1965-67) and Chief Administrative Services, 6932nd Security Group (USAFSS), Samsun Air Station, Samsun, the Republic of Turkey (1967-69). He attained the rank of Captain and completed his tour of active duty in January 1969.

A third generation licensed funeral director, he followed his Grandfather (Guy R, Sr.) and Father (Kenneth R,) in serving as the President and CEO for 42 years (1980-2021) of the family owned business. He was a founding board member of Ryan Mortuary, Inc. in 1969 and established the Memorial Trust Plan, Inc. in 1984. Working alongside his father, his son (Scott R,), three brothers, (Marc R., Karl F., and Eric K.), a sister-in-law (Martha A.), an uncle, (Guy R., Jr.), a cousin (Jerry J.), and two nephews (Luke L. and&nbsp; Sean O.) Steve provided guidance for over sixty years and transitioned to a role as senior advisor in 2021.

Steve was a lifetime member of the Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice. He served as president or vice president of the Kansas State Board of Mortuary Arts from 1996-2005. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Selected Independent Funeral Homes from 1992 to 1997, which allowed him to travel and study some of the leading firms in funeral service. He was honored to be chosen as the board’s president in 1996.

Steve was a 50-year member of Salina Masonic Lodge #60; a Life member of the Salina Scottish Rite Consistory, 33rd Degree Honorary; a 50-year member of Isis Temple Shrine; former member of the Isis Patrol (Patrol Captain 1971-76); and Salina Court #94, Royal Order of Jesters.

An involved citizen, Steve felt honored to hold many leadership roles in the community. He served on the board of directors of the Salina Area Chamber of Commerce for 10 years. In 2021 he was inducted into the Chamber's Salina Business Hall of Fame. He was elected to two consecutive four-year terms on the Salina City Commission. Steve was proud to serve as Salina’s mayor in 1987-1988 and 1991-1992.

He was grateful to serve on the following committees: Salina Downtown Lions Club, 1969-2021, 50 year member, President 1979-80; Salina Planning Commission, 1981-85, Chairman 1983-84: Kansas Wesleyan University, Board of Trustees, 1998-2007, Chairman, 2004-06; Greater Salina Community Foundation, Board of Directors, 2002-10, Chairman 2006-07; Salina Airport Authority Board of Directors, 2003-11, Chairman 2007-08; Salina Regional&nbsp; Health Foundation, Board of Trustees, 2003-11, Chairman, 2007-09; Salina Arts and Humanities Foundation, Board of Directors, 2009-18, Chairman, 2015-17.

He had a long-lasting, over 70 years, membership with the Salina Family YMCA, serving ten years, 1975-85, on the Board of Directors; and two years, 1981-83, as Board President. He was a founding incorporator of the YMCA Endowment Fund, on which he served for 36 years as an officer; and 16 years, 2001-17 as President of the Endowment Board of Directors.

An avid recreational golfer, Steve was a strong advocate of the First Tee of Salina. He was a member of this golf program Board of Directors for 14 years (2001- 2014). Steve was an active member of the Salina Gridiron Club, 1996-2018 and a longtime member of the Salina Country Club, where he served on the board of directors from 1998-2002, and as club president from 2001-2002.

Steve was a Life Member of the University of Kansas Alumni Association and member of the Williams Educational Fund. He was a loyal season ticketholder of both Jayhawk football and basketball programs for over 40 years. Rock Chalk!

Steve was also a Life member of both the Salina Elks Lodge and the Salina American Legion Post #62. The Friday Night Social Group is gratefully acknowledged.&nbsp; Adjustments were appreciated whenever possible.

Along with his enthusiasm for golf and the Jayhawks, Steve loved to share his passion for travel and history with his grandchildren.

Steve was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, William Slease. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lynne; son Scott and wife DeDe; daughter Carrie Wilson and husband John; three brothers, Marc and wife Marty, Karl and wife Jody and Eric; sister-in-law Judy Slease; four grandchildren, Rylee Wilson and fiancé Caleb McCullough, Amy Wilson, Collister Ryan and William Ryan, as well as his Buerkle, Ferguson, and Ryan cousins, nephews and nieces.

Visitation will be from noon until 8 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2025, at Ryan Mortuary, with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, at St. John's Lutheran Church, 302 S. 7th St., Salina, the Rev. Kim Frederking officiating. Burial will be in Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina. A reception will follow at the Salina Country Club.

Stephen Collister Ryan

Stella Lois Adkins, 69, of Salina, Kan., left her spirit and memories on earth and departed this life on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Salina Regional Hospital, surrounded by her family. She was born in Montgomery, Ala., to Joseph and Betty (Counterman) Panna, on February 15, 1956.

Stella spent most of her life in Salina. As a young girl, she would frequent the Fox Theater, the Municipal swimming pool and Playland Park. Stella graduated from Salina South High School in 1974. She was ambitious and managed several businesses over the years such as Taco Grande, The Bedroom Showplace, Pools Plus, and Long John Silvers.

Stella was a devoted mother who unconditionally loved her three children and cherished being a grandmother, who they fondly called their “Nina”. She loved gardening, thrifting, cardinals, and sunflowers and enjoyed riding around the countryside. Stella would often say to her family “Let’s go funning”.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Betty Panna, and grandparents, Raymond and Clara Counterman, and Stephen and Stella Panna.

She is survived by her children, Michael Reid, of Salina, Jennifer Keene (Mike) and Rebecca Adkins, both of Valley Center, Kan.; her grandchildren, who brought her so much pride and adoration, Olivia Hill, Victoria Moore, Levi Clark, Hanna Adkins, and Addison Keene. She also leaves behind her sisters, Darlene Hoeffner (Phillip Ropchock), of Salina, and Marilee Panna (Ali Hansen) of Benton Harbor, Mich.; her aunt Lois and uncle Jerome Rickard, of Elmira, N.Y., and aunt Rita Sanrocco, of Marlton, N.J.; niece, Rachel Hoeffner; nephews, Joe Hoeffner and David Hoeffner (Ella);&nbsp;and many cousins. She will be missed by her dear friends, Kim Klucus, Lynn Kohler, Marianne Meyer, Vera Phillip,&nbsp;and all those who called her “Mom”.

Stella Lois Adkins

Peggy Delores (Douglas) Schoenberger, 78, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at her home in Russell.

Peggy was born July 6, 1946, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was one of five children to William E. and Evelyne O. (Qualls) Douglas. She grew up in Ellis, Kansas, and graduated from Ellis High School in 1964. She then attended and graduated with a degree in Cosmetology from the Cosmetology School of Hays. She also attended classes at Ft. Hays State University for Pottery and Photography.

Peggy met the love of her life James “Jim” Schoenberger and were united in marriage on July 31, 1966 in Collyer, Kansas. This union was blessed with three children, Sharon, James Jr, and Jason. They made their home in Ellis for a couple of years before moving to Russell in 1969. Jim preceded her in death on January 4, 2020.

Peggy was a Cosmetologist in Russell for many years. She owned the Hair Shack and later she and her daughter, Sharon opened, Scissors Family Hair Design. She worked several years with Travenal, with her sister Barbara. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She was a member of the Russell Elks Lodge, Russell VFW Post #6240 Ladies Auxiliary and Delta Mu Sorority. Some of her favorite things to do in life were; doing arts and crafts like pottery, dishes, stain glass windows, drawings and doing art shows at the Deines Cultural Center; traveling with Jim to Homer, Alaska and Branson, Missouri. She loved going to the casinos, cooking for family and friends, taking pictures, getting her lottery tickets and cappuccino’s in Russell. She also enjoyed spending time with her family.

Celebration of Peggy’s Life will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, March 7, 2025, at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary. Burial of ashes will follow at a later date.  </figure>Peggy Delores (Douglas) Schoenberger, 78, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at her home in Russell.Peggy was born July 6, 1946, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was one of five children to William E. and Evelyne O. (Qualls) Douglas. She grew up in Ellis, Kansas, and graduated from Ellis High School in 1964. She then attended and graduated with a degree in Cosmetology from the Cosmetology School of Hays. She also attended classes at Ft. Hays State University for Pottery and Photography.Peggy met the love of her life James “Jim” Schoenberger and were united in marriage on July 31, 1966 in Collyer, Kansas. This union was blessed with three children, Sharon, James Jr, and Jason. They made their home in Ellis for a couple of years before moving to Russell in 1969. Jim preceded her in death on January 4, 2020.Peggy was a Cosmetologist in Russell for many years. She owned the Hair Shack and later she and her daughter, Sharon opened, Scissors Family Hair Design. She worked several years with Travenal, with her sister Barbara. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She was a member of the Russell Elks Lodge, Russell VFW Post #6240 Ladies Auxiliary and Delta Mu Sorority. Some of her favorite things to do in life were; doing arts and crafts like pottery, dishes, stain glass windows, drawings and doing art shows at the Deines Cultural Center; traveling with Jim to Homer, Alaska and Branson, Missouri. She loved going to the casinos, cooking for family and friends, taking pictures, getting her lottery tickets and cappuccino’s in Russell. Gary Hinkley

Irma Burger, 96 died February 26, 2025, in Clay Center, KS.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was born on February 6, 1929, in Green, KS, the daughter of William and Mary (Walker) Lang.&nbsp;&nbsp;Irma was raised in the Green community and was a graduate of the Green High School.&nbsp;&nbsp;She married Alfred W. Burger on April 23, 1950, in Clay Center Kansas at the St Paul Lutheran church parsonage as the church was under construction.&nbsp;&nbsp;Irma has remained a member of the congregation for 75 years. Alfred preceded her in death on October 2, 2000.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Marjorie Anthony, Helen Brunker and Shirley Merritt, and brothers, Rex and Paul Lang.

Irma was a proud farm wife and worked with her husband on the farm. She also worked at Tasty Pastry Bakery, Browne’s Clothing, Clay County Hospital as a Nurse’s Aide and at Presbyterian Manor in the dietary department.

Irma Burger

Barbara Lee (Helmer) Bessel, 77, of Assaria, Kansas, passed away on February 25, 2025, with her loved ones by her side to join her family in heaven. She was born March 24, 1947, in Marion, Kansas to George and Leona (Higgins) Helmer.

Barb graduated high school in Marion, Kansas and in 1964, she married her high school sweetheart Jerry Bessel in Marion, Kansas. Barb and Jerry just recently celebrated 60 years of marriage on December 6. Barb and Jerry had a marriage like none other. They were often seen holding hands and where one was the other was too.&nbsp;

She then started her career as a bank teller for Assaria Bank. Then transitioned to First Bank Kansas in Salina for the remainder of her 35 years. Through this Barb had many customers who became friends and remained so over the years.

Family was very important to her. Barb spent her life doing for others. If she wasn't going to an event for her daughters, then she was planning an event. When the grandchildren came, she started going to all their activities. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy.&nbsp;

Her house was always decorated for every holiday and so was she. From wearing holiday shirts to holiday shoes. She loved to celebrate.

You couldn’t tell if Barb was having a bad day or feeling pain. She always had a smile. It was a contagious smile. She had a way of lifting others up when they needed it. Because of this she did not know a stranger. Everywhere they went she knew someone.

She was very involved in community activities such as Assaria Pride, Assaria Lions Club, and a member of Beta Sigma Phi Kansas Delta Master Chapter #MA172 since 1969. Barb was also a member of the Mentor United Methodist Church.

Barb’s unwavering dedication to her family, faith, and community will be deeply missed by all that knew her.

She is survived by her husband Jerry Bessel, Daughters: Wendy (Jo) Holtz; Marci (Aaron) Finck; Grandchildren: Alexis Holtz, Haylee Holtz, Logan Holtz and Kherrington Finck and Great-Granddaughters: Nya Mendenhall and Octavia Holtz; Sisters: Linda Stucky and Brenda (Mark) Buller. Barb is also survived by her many nephews, nieces, and cousins, along with countless friends.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her mother Leona Helmer, father George Helmer, step-mother Carol Helmer, sister Georgie Vogel, niece Darla Gore, and many beloved aunts and uncles.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Visitation will be on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at Ryan Mortuary, 137 North Eighth, from 4:00p.m. - 8:00p.m with family present from 5:00p.m. - 7:00p.m. The Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, March 3, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at The Ark Church Salina, 2020 S. Gloria Kahler, age 83, passed away peacefully Monday, February 17, 2025 in Lindsborg, KS. She was born August 13, 1941 in Clay County, KS to Kenneth and Naomi (McCormick) Hite.

Gloria grew up in Oak Hill, KS and graduated from Clay Center High School. She worked in the health care field and gained much satisfaction from it, working many years in Clay Center and Yates Center. She married Howard Kahler in 1987 and lived in several communities, finally retiring in Lindsborg, KS. Gloria was a loving mother and grandmother and her talents were many. She had a beautiful voice and when they were younger, often sang harmony with her sister at various events. She also sang in the church choir, was in a bowling league for many years, and loved to paint, crochet and decorate her home. She will be remembered for her baking and her willingness to fill containers with her famous chocolate chip cookies to give to her children and grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her twin sister, Gladys Conner.

She is survived by her loving husband of 38 years, Howard Kahler of Lindsborg, KS; son Timothy Berggren and wife Robin of Lindsborg; daughters Lana Bergman and husband Paul of Arlington Heights, IL, Jan Scharping and husband Brian of Wichita, KS; stepdaughter Darla Mann and husband Tom of Haysville, KS; grandchildren Shane Berggren (Holly), Jacob Berggren (Jay Pomeroy), April Faulkner (Matthew), Harry Bergman, Heather Baldwin (Cody), Megan Jenkins (Forrest), Eric Scharping, Nicholas Scharping (Samantha Kelley), and Bailey Mann; 10 great-grandchildren; brother Raymond Hite and sisters Patricia Haguewood, Virginia Payne and Linda Story; plus many nieces, nephews and friends.

Donald Scott Lendecker

Lavina Ruth Goering Havens, 90, McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, surrounded by family at Salina Regional Health Center.

She was born October 30, 1934, in Goessel, KS, the daughter of Peter P. and Marie (Ratzlaff) Penner.&nbsp; She graduated from Inman High School.&nbsp; On March 1, 1957, Lavina was united in marriage to Forrest Goering.&nbsp; He died November 26, 1996.&nbsp; She later married Austin L. Havens on March 7, 2015, in McPherson, KS.&nbsp; He died November 30, 2022.

Lavina was a homemaker and was a housekeeper at the Red Coach Inn.&nbsp; She was a member of New Hope Evangelical Church, McPherson.&nbsp; She enjoyed quilting with The Mission Society at Hopefield Mennonite Church.&nbsp; Spending time with family, reading, sewing, going to western Kansas to cut wheat, making German Faspa and peppernuts during the holidays, and reading the Christmas Story and Luke 2 were also among her favorite activities.&nbsp; Most importantly, Lavina wanted all her children and grandchildren to know, trust, and love the Lord

Survivors include children, Lynnae (Lee) Applequist of McPherson, KS, Darin (Teresa) Goering of&nbsp; Salina, KS, and Lisa (Kirk) Bouray of McPherson, KS; son-in-law, Calvin Voth of McPherson, KS; sister, Velma Unruh of Galva, KS; nine grandchildren, Emily (Steven) Davis, Rosette (Damon) Kleinsorge, Caprice Applequist, Grace (Ethan) Price, Aaron Voth, Andrea (Bo) Flores, Abbie Goering, Journey Goering, and Bethanie (Nick) Purcell; two step-grandchildren, Lucas and Emma Davis; seven great-grandchildren, Luke Lockhart, Lili Lockhart, Landen Lockhart, Dakota Davis, Addison Kleinsorge, Jadon Kleinsorge, and Paislynn Purcell; and many extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter &amp; Marie Penner; husband, Forrest Goering and Austin Havens; sister, Elda Jantzen; and daughter, Charla Voth.

The family will receive friends&nbsp;from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM, Sunday, March 2, 2025, at Stockham Family Funeral Home.&nbsp; A graveside service will be held&nbsp;at 9:00 AM, Monday, March 3, at Hopefield Mennonite Church Cemetery (Moundridge, KS) with a memorial service following&nbsp;at 10:30 AM, Monday, at Stockham Family Funeral Home with Pastor George Bocox officiating.

 </figure>Lavina Ruth Goering Havens, 90, McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, surrounded by family at Salina Regional Health Center.She was born October 30, 1934, in Goessel, KS, the daughter of Peter P. and Marie (Ratzlaff) Penner.&nbsp; She graduated from Inman High School.&nbsp; On March 1, 1957, Lavina was united in marriage to Forrest Goering.&nbsp; He died November 26, 1996.&nbsp; She later married Austin L.
