Susan Alene Hamilton, 87, formerly of Ashton, Idaho, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2026. She was born on October 4, 1938, in Topeka, Kansas, to Harold and Anna Workman.
Susan was united in marriage to John Wesley (“Wes”) Hamilton, with whom she shared 52 years of devoted partnership. She dedicated much of her life to education, teaching English for many years before earning her master’s degree in Special Education. She went on to provide specialized instruction in this field, making a lasting impact on the lives of countless students.
During the summers, Susan and Wes complemented their teaching careers by operating a painting and wallpapering business. Together, they also enjoyed extensive travel, including motorcycle trips to destinations such as Canada, Portland, Dallas, Chicago, and Denver.
Following her retirement from teaching, Susan fulfilled a lifelong dream by opening her own shop, The Magic Bean, which featured specialty gifts and candies. Wes contributed by operating the framing side of the business, creating custom pieces for many treasured items and photographs.
Susan spent the majority of her life in Kansas before relocating to Ashton, Idaho, in retirement. She and Wes also traveled throughout the continental United States during his time as a truck driver, visiting all 48 states. Even in her later years, Susan remained active in her community, continuing her painting and wallpapering work and volunteering with Meals on Wheels, where she delivered meals to those in need until shortly before her passing.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Shirley Harshbarger and Kathy Dickerson; and her grandson, Jesse Kimmel.
Susan is survived by her loving husband, Wes Hamilton; her children, Michelle (Mike) Kimmel, Melinda (Waldeen) Schmidt, Marcia (Mike Stumps) McClymont, and Chuck (Tricia) McGrew; her grandchildren, Benjamin Kimmel, Sarah Daye, Caleb McClymont, Phillip Schmidt, Brian McClymont, Janell Shultis, Kayla McGrew, Cole McGrew, and Kiera McGrew; and twelve great-grandchildren.
