Norman George Anschutz, 86, of Russell, Kansas, died on Monday, November 17, 2025, at the Via Christi Saint Francis Hospital in Wichita.

Norman was born on October 15, 1939, in Hays, Kansas, the son of Louis and Vivian (Thielen) Anschutz. He grew up in Dorrance, Kansas, and graduated from Dorrance High School in the class of 1958. He attended Kansas State University, graduating with an Architecture degree in 1963, and spending most of his early professional career with Shaver &amp; Company in Salina, Kansas. During a temporary project assignment in California, he met and fell in love with Barbara Jean Dito. The couple was united in marriage on May 31, 1969, in San Francisco, California. Norman and Barbara began their new life together in San Jose, California and were blessed with two children: Cheryl and Michael. In 1976, the family moved back to Kansas, making their home in Russell. Norman worked part-time as an architect while maintaining the family farm he had dearly missed while in California. Though having moved away, Norman ensured the family traveled back to San Francisco frequently to stay connected to Barbara’s Italian family, while enjoying the amazing food and taking in all the sights and traditions. He was a longtime member of St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Russell. Norman was a dedicated member of the Russell COOP coffee group where he enjoyed spending his morning visiting with friends. Norm and Barb loved traveling to Colorado, and other scenic locations as he loved the outdoors. A tender heart for animals, Norman found great joy caring for the farm cats and the many dogs in his life over the years. He was also an avid collector of scale model John Deere equipment and Model T Cars, and a lifelong history buff. After discovering the wonders of the iPad, he would spend countless hours learning everything he could about history and listening to his beloved music. Most of all, Norman enjoyed spending time working the family farm with his son, and spending time with his family and friends.

Surviving family include wife of 56 years, Barbara Anschutz of the home, daughter, Cheryl T. Brock (Travis) of Wichita, Kansas and son Michael N. Anschutz (Mendi) of Hays, Kansas; sisters Ellen Spaulding (Mark) of Andover, Kansas and Eileen Keenan (Dennis) of Overland Park, Kansas; and grandchildren Hannah, Leah, Luke, Jared, Shelby, and Easton.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Joyce Cobb-Barker.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at St. Mary, Queen of Angels Catholic Church of Russell. 

Burial will follow at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday, November 24, 2025, at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary. 

Vigil and Rosary will be held at 7:00 PM, Monday November 24 at St. Mary, Queen of Angels Catholic Church. A memorial has been established with Russell Senior Center.

Norman George Anschutz

Holdan M. Hartman was born October 22, 1993, to Amy Brockelman and David Hartman. He took his life Tuesday, November 18, 2025, due to the failure of the justice system; a continued hindrance to his life instead of helping.

Holdan was a smart, funny, hard-working man who loved his family, his fur babies and wife dearly.

Some days you would find him tinkering on something in the garage or coming up with brilliant ideas. Some days just at the computer ‘nerding’ out. He loved his fur babies, so some days he just sat on the couch while loving on Shiloh, Elsa, Theo, Luna Bug and more recently Simon and Sadie.

He will be missed so terribly by his wife Erin; dad, David Hartman; mom, Amy (Butch) Brockelman; grandfather, Bruce Halpain Sr.; sister Anna (Andrew) Jones; niece and nephew, Abigail and AJ; brother, Andrue Halpain; sister, Miranda (Derek) Pistora; step brothers, Jacob and Steven Brockelman; Erin’s parents, Harold and Bonnie Wellmeier; and aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Evelyn and Mickey Hartman and grandmother, Anita Halpain.

Arden “Bruce” Clegg, 77, Lincoln, Nebraska, passed away on August 19, 2025. He was born on September 10, 1947 in Concordia, Kansas to Bryant and Carol (Seals) Clegg.

He served in the US Navy, earning the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, One Bronze Star, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and First Code of Conduct Medal.

He was preceded in death by his wife Linda Clegg, and his parents.

He is survived by his siblings, Trudy Clegg Cross and David Clegg.

A graveside service will be held at Mount Hope Cemetery on December 3, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Thaddeus Hinkle officiating.

José G. Esparza-Bañuelos, 68, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on November 16, 2025. He was born March 20, 1957, in Abrego, Zacatecas Mexico to Manuel Esparza and Alicia Banuelos.

He married the love of his life Alfonsina Panuco, Feb 19, 1977. José worked most of his life doing commercial construction. Jose was a devoted husband and father.&nbsp; He loved to spend time with all his family; He loved to dance. He was a very happy man, always had a good sense of humor. His favorite quote “ Sabes Cuando”&nbsp;, and he will be remembered by so many close family and friends.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel Esparza and Alicia Banuelos; his brother, Heriberto Esparza, and his sisters Silvia Esparza de Torres and Lupe Esparza.

He is survived by his Wife, Alfonsina Panuco de Esparza; 5 children, Alma Esparza (Tony), José Esparza (Ibeth), Manuel Esparza (Melissa), Bernardo Esparza (Yaneth), Araceli Esparza; 22 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, 10 step great grandchildren, 11 brothers and sisters and numerous nieces and nephews.

Janet D. Watkins, 88, of Brookville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 16, 2025. She was born March 6, 1937, in rural Brookville, Kansas, to Chris and Elsie (Matt) Bieber. Janet lived and worked on her family farm. She graduated from Brookville High School in 1955 and went on to become a registered nurse, graduating from the Asbury School of Nursing in 1958.

After graduation, she married&nbsp;Ward Watkins&nbsp;on May 9, 1958, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Salina, and they were happily married for 56 years. For many years, she was a nurse at Asbury Hospital and later worked for Drs. Schmidt, Livingston, and Nichol until she retired.

Janet was a proud first responder in Brookville, Kansas, helping her neighbors in times of need. She found joy in her garden, with her animals, and in the church.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Chris and Elsie Bieber; sisters, Vietta and Mary; and her husband, Ward Watkins and special friend George (her furry companion).

She is survived by her daughter, Dana Watkins of Brookville; son, Dennis Watkins, and his wife, Leah, of Wichita; two grandchildren, Chelsea Watkins and Dalton Watkins and fiancé Andrew Jimenz of Wichita; great-grandchildren, Miranda Mae Moeder and Memphis Wayne Moeder; brother, Dean Bieber, and his wife, Marilyn, of Hutchinson; and many friends.

There will be no visitation. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 24, 2025, at the Brookville United Methodist Church in Brookville, with Pastor Jaron Bell officiating. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.

Gregory W. Cole, 68, Salina, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loved ones on November 9th, 2025. He was the oldest of Evelyn (Knapp) and William “Bill” Cole’s three children.&nbsp;

On October 17, 2009, he was united in holy matrimony to Cheryl Trygg.&nbsp;

Greg was a Boy Scout leader. He was also a mason, and a shriner.&nbsp;

In his free time, Greg enjoyed spending time with his family, jamming out to The Beatles, and having Star Trek marathons. He would later reenact scenes from these movies for his grandchildren.&nbsp;

He is preceded in death by his parents Evelyn (Knapp) Cole and William “Bill” Cole.

He is survived by his wife Cheryl Trygg; his two sons, William (Tabetha) Cole of Salina and Jeffrey Cole of Topeka; and five grandchildren, Chelsea Cole, Mattison Cole, Cash Bowlby, Cayanne Bowlby, and Carlinn Bowlby-Cole.&nbsp;

Services will be held at Ray Avenue Baptist Church, 2801 Ray Avenue, on November 22, 2025 at 2 pm. A gathering will follow.&nbsp;

Biagio “Poli” Harrington, 50, of Lyons, Kansas, passed away surrounded by family and friends on November 15, 2025, at Salina Regional Healthcare Center. Born on October 6, 1975, in Salina, Kansas, he was the son of Patty Harrington. He married Brandi Harrington in 2003, and to this union they had three daughters. They later divorced. Poli lived a life full of love, laughter, and purpose.

Poli was known for his generosity, sense of humor, and unwavering devotion to his four daughters. His passion for cooking—especially his legendary smoked pork—was a hallmark of his life. He often volunteered to cater for his daughters’ school events and found joy in preparing savory dishes that brought people together. Poli believed that food was an expression of respect and love, and he shared that belief with everyone he met.

Professionally, Poli was an accomplished flooring installer, twice earning the National Title for Certified Floor Installer of the Year and becoming the youngest to win in Las Vegas, Nevada. He proudly owned and operated Harrington Floor Coverings, building a reputation for excellence and dedication.

Beyond his achievements, Poli found happiness in simple traditions—smoking meats during the Christmas season and delivering them to friends, family, and neighbors. He lived by the principle that every person was worthy of respect, and those who knew him will remember his warmth, generosity, and the laughter he brought to every gathering.

Poli is survived by his daughters Jayden (Jarett Phillips) Harrington, Lyons, KS; Skylar Harrington, Oahu, HI; Payton Harrington, Ellinwood, KS; Amaya Millar, Chase, KS; grandson Joel Phillips, Lyons, KS; mother Patty Harrington, Salina, KS; sisters Katherine (Sean) West, White City, KS, and Angela Bhakta, Salina, KS; brothers Gigs (Brenda) Ross, Derek (Amanda) Ross, and Houston Ross, all of Salina, KS; step-sisters Kimberly (Jalen Rueckert) Caffrey and Samantha (Clinton) Emig, both of Abilene, KS; step-brother Ricky (Jessica) Caffrey, Jr., Enterprise, KS; aunts Bobi (Kevin) Weberg, Little River, KS; uncle Tom Kelly, Sterling, KS; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by grandparents Helen and Charles Maples; sisters Amelia, Tonya, and Faustine Harrington; and brother Joseph Harrington.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, November 21, at 2:00 PM at Emmanuel Foursquare Church, 1325 E Cloud St, Salina, KS. Friends and family are invited to gather, share stories, and honor his life. A private inurnment will take place at a later date.

Biagio “Poli” Harrington

Nouphinh Detvongsa, 59, of Salina, Kansas, passed away peacefully on November 15th, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family and friends. He faced many health challenges with courage over the years, beginning hemodialysis in the early 2000s and receiving a kidney transplant in 2018. During his final week, he was cared for at KU Medical Center, enveloped in the presence of those who treasured him most.

Born on January 5th, 1966, in Laos, Nouphinh was a devoted son and a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He will be remembered for his infectious humor, his generous spirit, and the warmth he brought into every room. Nou had an extraordinary gift for bringing people together, forming lifelong friendships with ease and creating community wherever he went.

He lived life with joy and passion. Whether casting a line at his favorite fishing spot, caring for his chickens, or spending time outdoors with his wife, friends, or son-in-law, Nou embraced the simple moments that made him happiest. He excelled at every hobby he took on, and he shared his talents freely with those around him.

Though his absence leaves a deep ache, Nou’s love, laughter, and light will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew him.

Nouphinh is survived by his wife, Khampong Detvongsa; his children, Nit Abington and husband Emmanuel Abington, Eric Detvongsa and wife Lurdes Detvongsa, Nicky Cooke and husband Carl Cooke; and his cherished grandchildren: Layla and Love Abington, Leonardo Detvongsa, and Sophia, Taylor, and Calvin Cooke. He is also survived by four sisters and one brother.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his granddaughter, Charlee Abington.

A service honoring Nouphinh’s life will be held at the Buddhist Temple of Salina on Saturday, November 22nd, 2025, at 11 A.M., with the cremation continuing at Ryan Mortuary &amp; Crematory at 2 P.M. A Celebration of Life will follow at his residence, where friends and family will gather to remember and honor the beautiful life he lived.

Kenton K. Cross (Kelly), 79, of Salina, Kansas, passed away on Friday November 14, 2025 at Salina Regional Hospital. He was born on December 3, 1945 in Salina, Kansas to his parents Orley Leroy Cross and Creta Marie Wilt.

Kenton married Donna Jean Cassler November 5, 1966 in California at the Lynwood Methodist Church. Together they would have two daughters: Laura (Lori) Cates and Dawn Petre.

Kenton proudly served in the United States Navy. Enlisting in 1966 before being Honorably discharged in 1972. He had a passion for fishing and playing solitaire in his free time.

He worked as a truck driver. Then would go on to retire as a maintenance man after many years from the Salina Senior Center.&nbsp;

Kenton is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, his wife, Donna. Survivors include their two children, Laura (Lori) Cates and Dawn Petre. He was also a loving grandfather to four grandchildren: Ashleigh, Jordan, Alayna, and Kelly as well as five great grandchildren: Asiah, Jozlyn, London, Jameson, Jacey.

Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 24, 2025 at Roselawn Heights Memorial Chapel, 1920 East Crawford Street, Salina, Kansas 67401 with Pastor Blaine Herron as officiant.&nbsp; Burial will follow in Grandview Mill Creek Cemetery, 9930 Fairview Church Road, Riley, Kansas 66449.

Jane Loraine (Herman) Friess, 85, of Salina, Kansas, went to her eternal rest on Monday, November 17, 2025. Jane was born November 20, 1939 in Big Springs, Nebraska, to Thomas G. and Marie A. (Frank) Herman.Her early childhood was spent in Big Springs, Nebraska and Denver, Colorado. She attended grade school at St. Bonaventure School in Chicago, Illinois. In 1958, she graduated from Hayden High School in Topeka, Kansas.

Jane married Fred Friess in 1958. To this union, 3 children were born, Cynthia, Christopher and Geralyn. They later divorced.

She worked for Beechcraft and Raytheon Aircraft for more than 26 years. She was an Employee’s Club Rep for many years. She enjoyed putting on different activities for members and their families. Jane also loved to dance, the waltz and polka were her favorites. She was president of the Jolly Mixers in Salina for 3 years. She was also president of the Sunflower Polka Club for 11 years. She really enjoyed visiting with club members and meeting new members.Jane loved her family and enjoyed every minute she spent with them. She spent many, many wonderful hours with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Thomas Herman and one great granddaughter, Sulsar.Survivors include her son, Christopher ‘Chris’ Friess; daughters, Cynthia ‘Cindy’ Friess, Geralyn ‘Geri’ Sulsar (Doug); grandsons, Jared Sulsar (Tracy), Joel Sulsar (Elise); granddaughters, Summer Lambert, Rachael Friess; great grandsons, Maxton, Perez, Aiden, and Mason Sulsar, Cole and Silas Sulsar; great granddaughters, Kimber Sulsar and Thea Sulsar.Cremation was chosen.The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 23, from 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm at Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home.

Cheril Kay McCoy was born January 5th 1947 to Harold and Bertha (Boxum) Hofer. She passed away November 14th at Osborne Memorial Hospital.

She grew up on the family farm Northeast of Portis. She attended Union 4 country school and graduated Valedictorian of Portis High School class of 1964. On August 19th she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Terry (Butch) McCoy. The two built a life together and raised 5 children. Cheril worked as a secretary for the local optometrist, Dr. Duane Muck for 29 years; and Dr. Kim Cheney for 4 1/2 years. She loved seeing the familiar faces that passed through the office-she never met a stranger. Later on she worked part-time in the school lunchroom where she loved chatting with her coworkers, seeing the students, especially her granddaughters as they passed through the lunch line.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Bertha Hofer, husband, Terry (Butch) McCoy, and sister Verena Hofer.

She is survived by her 5 children Julie, Janel (Steve), Jared (Karri), Jace (Mandy), Jaylon (Danielle); and her 6 grandchildren: Logan (Taylor), Briley (Lucas), Kaden, Marley, Lynnette and Isla. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Brenda Sue Smith, 68, of Salina, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 14, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Salina on November 20, 1956, to Bonnie (Crook) Chipman and Carl Honomichl, Brenda lived a life rooted in faith and compassion. She loved the Lord deeply and shared His love with everyone she met. Her favorite words to others were, “Jesus Loves You.”

Brenda is survived by her daughter, Charity Gibson; sister, Rhonda Warhurst (Frank); brothers, Charles Brodock (Matery Chipman), Michael Honomichl, and Miles Honomichl; and the father of her children, Ronald Smith. She also leaves behind 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and numerous extended family members who will cherish her memory.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two children, Carl Honomichl and Tawanna Honomichl.Cremation has been chosen. 

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 22, at Gypsum Hill Cemetery in Salina, Kansas.

Thomas&nbsp;“Tom”&nbsp;Robert Frankenfield, 76, of McPherson, KS, passed away on Friday, November 14, 2025, at his home.

He was born on May 19, 1949, in Bethlehem, PA, the son of Robert E. and Helen E. (Nicholas) Frankenfield. Tom graduated from Liberty High School in Bethlehem, PA.&nbsp; He received his bachelor’s degree from United States Military Academy at West Point, NY and master’s degree from Lehigh University in Northampton County, PA. On January 5, 1991, he was united in marriage to Judith A. Casey at St. Nicholas Church in Wilkes-Barre, PA.

Tom proudly served his country for 23 years as a Regular Army Officer. His service in the United States Army spanned from June 9, 1971, to August 31, 1994, culminating in the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was a member of American Legion Post #24 and was dedicated to supporting military burial honors.

A faithful member of St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, Tom was deeply involved in his community. He volunteered many hours at the McPherson Opera House and pursued hobbies he loved, including model railroading and stamp collecting. He enjoyed his Golden Retrievers, Molly, Murphy, and Buddy and was also an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

Kathleen A. Oborny (Steiner) 88, passed away on November 14, 2025, surrounded by family at St. Luke Living Center in Marion, KS. She was born November 4, 1937 near Durham, KS to Ralph and Anne (Reznicek) Steiner. Kathleen met the love of her life, George Oborny, at a Pilsen polka dance. They married on April 14, 1956, in Tampa, KS.

She was a wife, homemaker, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She farmed along side George. She ran the combine, tractor and grain truck during harvest, helped out with the hogs and the cattle herd. She and George raised chickens and Kathleen made weekly deliveries to her egg customers and local grocery store in Marion. She was a member of the Holy Family Parish, St Anne Altar Society, taught catechism at Pilsen parish, and served as a school board member of Centre USD 397 school district. She is survived by children – Dennis (Rita -deceased) Oborny of Salina, KS, Julie (Val) Klenda of Lincolnville, KS, Jeannie (Steve) Blue of Gardner, KS, David (Sandra) Oborny of Marion, KS, Jennifer (Rick) Marshall of Blackwater, MO; 14 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren; siblings Joyce Buckley of Marion, KS, Barbara Rodriguez of Wichita, KS, Veronica (Jerry) Base of Smolan, KS, Margaret Bailey of Tacoma, WA, Ralph (Ida) Steiner of Eudora, KS, and sister-in-law Rita Steiner of rural Durham, KS. Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, husband George, son, George Donald and brother, Francis Steiner.

Kathleen was an excellent cook. She was best known for her fried chicken, German chocolate cake, angel wings, homemade noodles and kolaches. The grandkids looked forward to visiting grandma and enjoying her homemade chocolate chip cookies and cinnamon rolls with “white mustard” aka cream cheese frosting.

She liked to fish and on many Sunday summer evenings, took her children fishing at nearby farm ponds. Kathleen loved to mow the lawn and garden.

She was an accomplished seamstress and made many of her children’s clothes when they were young. She also loved to quilt and embroider many tea towels and pillow cases.

Kathleen’s love of God and family stand as a testament of a mother’s love to her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and their families.

JoAnn Cox Putnam, age 90, passed away on November 12, 2025, in Osborne, Kansas.

JoAnn was born on May 29, 1935, in rural Alton, Kansas, to Charles and Alice (Miller) Cox. She was one of six children and grew up surrounded by a close-knit family. While still in high school, JoAnn began working as a telephone operator at the Alton Telephone Office, a job she returned to off and on into her mid-twenties.

JoAnn met her first love, Jack Mayes, and they were married in 1954. Together they were blessed with three children: Elizabeth Carol, Jacqueline Sue, and John Nickolas. After Jack’s passing, JoAnn later met another love, Doyle Sackhoff, with whom she shared more than 30 years of marriage until his death in 1991. Their daughter, Laura Frances, completed their family.

JoAnn remained active and social throughout her life. In her later years she began attending community events for retirees, where she found companionship and joy with her final love, Arden Putnam. The two enjoyed attending dances, gatherings, and many community events together and were united in marriage in 1998.

Throughout her lifetime, JoAnn worked in a variety of roles, each of which she embraced with dedication and enthusiasm. She was a hardworking and talented lady. Her final and most cherished position was as an in-home daycare provider, caring for many children who remained special to her long after they grew.

JoAnn was exceptionally creative. She loved working with wood and crafted many beautiful projects over the years. She was also an accomplished seamstress. In her later years, she found great joy in hand-sewing intricate Barbie doll clothes for her great-granddaughters. She also loved planting flowers, tending to her yard, and spending time outdoors. Her family will forever carry her memory deep within their hearts.

JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Alice Cox, and by her beloved stepmother Frances Cox, who lovingly raised her from age two to adulthood. She was also preceded by her first husband Jack Mayes and her second husband Doyle Sackhoff; sons-in-law Bill Schultze and Brian Pahls; daughter-in-law Janet Mayes; grandson Blake Mayes; sisters Barbara Snedker and Marjorie Bales; and brothers Charles “Sonny” Cox and Dee Arden Cox. Step daughter Patricia (Tracia) Putnam.

She is survived by her husband Arden Putnam Downs, KS; daughters Beth Schultze. of Osborne, KS, Jaqui Conrad (Carlyn) of Sylvia, KS, and Lauri Pahls of Tipton, KS; son Nick Mayes of Wichita, KS; and sister Mary Cox McKay of San Antonio, TX.

JoAnn was blessed with 13 grandchildren: Amy (Brandon) Miller, Angie (Jerrad) Goheen, Eric (Lindy) Schultze, Bryan (Amanda) Schultze, Tyler (Chelsea) Schultze, Jessica (Travis) Mathes, Travis (Ai) Conrad, Alicia (Dallas) Minks, Braden (Kacey) Mayes, Blaise Mayes, Dustin (Alisa) Pahls, and Ashley Pahls; as well as 26 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. JoAnn is also survived by her stepchildren—Steve Putnam, Rick Putnam, Lynn Henke and their families, including step-grandchildren who were very dear to her heart.

JoAnn Cox Putnam

Nadine S. Lee, 82, of Sylvan Grove, Kansas, passed away peacefully at her home on November 11, 2025. She was born on May 22, 1943, in Tipton, Kansas, to Rudolph and Rose (Spiess) Konzem.

Nadine grew up in Tipton and attended Tipton Catholic Schools. She later continued her education, earning her master’s degree in pathology. Nadine dedicated much of her professional life to serving others as a laboratory technician in hospitals, where she was known for her steady work ethic, precision, and compassion.

Throughout her life, Nadine was known for her warm spirit, her curiosity, and her love for adventure. An avid animal lover, she found joy in caring for and spending time with animals of all kinds. She loved to travel, and one of her favorite trips was attending the balloon festival in New Mexico. She delighted in collecting unique treasures—especially rocks—and enjoyed peaceful days spent fishing. Nadine also appreciated good food and good company, and she was always ready for tacos and a margarita.

Nadine dedicated much of her professional life to serving others as a laboratory technician in hospitals, where she was known for her steady work ethic, precision, and compassion.Throughout her life, Nadine was known for her warm spirit, her curiosity, and her love for adventure. An avid animal lover, she found joy in caring for and spending time with animals of all kinds. She loved to travel, and one of her favorite trips was attending the balloon festival in New Mexico. She delighted in collecting unique treasures—especially rocks—and enjoyed peaceful days spent fishing. John Owen Hays, 72, from Salina, KS, passed away Wednesday morning, November 12, 2025, at his home.

John was born February 22, 1953 at Lindsborg, KS, the son of Charles R. and Daisy (Hilleary) Hays. He grew up in the Salina area and graduated from Central High School.

John served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1972-1976. John was united in marriage to Carol Jean Arnoldy on August 17, 1974 at the St. Boniface Catholic Church, Tipton, KS. After returning home from being stationed in Norfolk, VA they made their home in Salina, KS.

John was an employee of Exide Batteries for over 35 years.

He was a member of the St. Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church and a member of the Folk Choir. He was also a member of the Loyal of the Moose Lodge, Salina, KS, and made his way up through the officer's chairs.

John was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Dave; and brother-in-law, Dennis Wilkins.

Survivors include wife, Carol Jean of Salina; sister, Ellen Wilkins of Minneapolis, KS; sister-in-law and spouse Charlene &amp; Roy Diers of Hastings, NE; plus many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and friends.

Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. on Sunday, November 16, 2025, at Ryan Mortuary, Salina, with a rosary prayer service at 4 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on&nbsp;Monday, November 17,&nbsp;at St. Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church, Salina, with Father Adam Urban and Father Kerry Ninemire officiating. John Owen Hays

Stephen S. Dlabal, Jr. passed on to eternal life November 11, 2025, in Salina, KS at the age of 74. He was born to Stephen S. Dlabal, Sr. and Ida (Vlcek) Dlabal on June 12, 1951.

Steve attended North Blackwolf school and later graduated from Wilson High School in 1969. He then advanced his studies by attending NCKA Vo-Tech in Beloit, KS. He earned a Farm Mechanics degree, graduating in 1971. This was right up his alley as he was always fixing or building something. Growing up on a farm and then making a living as a farmer and cattleman, Steve was always working with his hands and tending the land. He had a deep passion for agriculture and devoted many hours farming.

He also had a passion for family history and heritage. Steve was honored to be able to live on the Dlabal homestead and upkeep the beautiful farmhouse that was built in 1919. The house was home to many generations of Dlabals. A favorite time of year was hosting family reunions on the farm where memories could be shared and new memories made.

Steve was committed to his community and never met a stranger. He greatly enjoyed visiting with anyone from neighbors to someone he just met. He served on various boards including the Noble Township Board for many years. He was an Ellsworth County Commissioner for seven years and did his best to represent his district. Steve’s faith was a pillar in his life, an active member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church his entire time on earth. He was also in the Knight of Columbus and held the roles of District Deputy and Grand Knight.

Between farming and church, Steve found time for polka dances where he met the love of his life, Carmel. They were united in marriage on October 1, 1977, and continued to dance through life, enjoying polka music till Steve’s final hours. To their union, were born four children whom he loved deeply. Steve was a dedicated husband and father, always making sure his family was taken care of. He was so proud of his children and supportive in all they ventured to do. He passed on to them his love and knowledge of farming, strong work ethic and dedication to family. Steve also very much enjoyed his title of Papa, as eleven grandchildren found humor in his antics.

Stephen was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Ida Dlabal, sister-in-law Rosemary Dlabal, brother-in-law Jeff Dunn, and sister-in-law Crystal Maguire. His legacy will live on in those surviving including his wife of 48 years, Carmel Dlabal, children: Corwin (Jennifer) Dlabal, Darwin (Sarah) Dlabal, Melanie (Tony) Elizondo, Stephanie (Austin) Rathbun, and grandchildren: Abigail, Caleb, Chisholm, Quentin and Kyler Dlabal, Kash and Emmy Dlabal, Easton, Calder, Merritt, and Jolie Mae Elizondo. Other family surviving includes brother James Dlabal and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wilson, KS on Sunday, November 16th beginning at 5pm with rosary at 7pm. A mass of Christian burial will take place on Monday, November 17th at 10am at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church.

Harris, 79, of Salina, passed away Thursday, November 13, 2025.&nbsp; She was born March 10, 1946, in Salina, to Harlan Hugh and Sarah Lucille (McDaniels) Holmes.&nbsp; She attended Salina Central High School and graduated in 1964.&nbsp; She worked for many years as a waitress at Sand’s Restaurant and later worked at Russell Stover’s until her retirement.&nbsp; Kate loved Elvis and listening to his music.

&nbsp;Survivors include her children, Wendy Sotello, and Stacey Harris; grandchildren, Matthew McWhorter, Tim McWhorter, and Chris McWhorter, all of Salina; great-granddaughter, Jesseka McWhorter, of Hillsboro; and one brother, Max Holmes (Susan), of Salina.

&nbsp;She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert D. Harris; parents, Harlan and Sarah Holmes; sisters, Mary Rein and Helen Bells.

Katherine L. Harris

Earl Robert Esping, 95, of McPherson, Kansas,&nbsp;peacefully passed away on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on December 21, 1929, in Lindsborg, Kansas, the son of Clarence Philip and Alice Tillie Bernadine (Morine) Esping. Earl graduated from Lindsborg High School and went on to attend Bethany College in Lindsborg.

In 1952, Earl met the love of his life, Mabel Elizabeth McCoy. A year later, he was drafted into the United States Army. While home on leave in July 1954, Earl and Mabel became engaged, and they were married on September 18, 1955, by Rev. Harold Herndon at the First Christian Church in McPherson.

Earl proudly served his country during the Korean War and remained a dedicated veteran throughout his life. He was a life member of &nbsp;V.F.W. Post #2715.

He retired from NCRA where he was a purchasing manager.&nbsp; Earl farmed his entire life on the family farmstead.

Esping, and Boaz Reilly.
