David LeRoy Schneider, Sr. passed away peacefully at St. Luke’s Living Center in Marion, KS on February 20, 2023, at the age of 78. He was born June 14th, 1944 in a farmhouse in Hunter, KS to Benjamin and Eulalah Schneider. 

At the age of 18, David began his career at KP&amp;L in Abilene, KS as part of their three-year apprenticeship program. This is where he developed the passion and love for his craft, often mentioning ‘there is nothing else I’d rather be doing.’ After a short stay in Abilene, KS he moved to Lincolnville, KS and continued working for KP&amp;L as a power lineman, ultimately spending his entire 40-year career with them. 

Some of the things David enjoyed doing included farm pond fishing for catfish, spending weekends camping with his family and friends at the lake, water skiing, bowling, and being active at his church. His two favorite sports teams were the Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs, spending several Saturdays at Royals’ games. Monday night family tradition involved watching football, making popcorn balls, and having a Pepsi. 

David also spent several years serving his community as the mayor of Lincolnville. 

He is survived by his three children, daughter Wendy Weyand, daughter Renee (Jim) Koehn, son David (Lacinda) Schneider, two granddaughters Chérie Weyand and Rachel Weyand,&nbsp; great-granddaughter Brynlee Taylor, and sister Wilma Rauscher.

Melody R. Elsasser was born August 5, 1959 in Abilene, the daughter of Arnold and Patricia (Allen) Lamborn. She passed away Thursday, February 23, 2023 at the Salina Regional Health Center in Salina at the age of 63. She graduated from Chapman High School with the class of 1977 and received her associate degree in accounting from Cloud County Community College. Melody was the office coordinator for Frontier Estates in Abilene and enjoyed camping, and fishing, but her greatest joy was spending with her family, especially her grandchildren. On September 6, 1980 Melody was united in marriage to Danial Elsasser in Abilene. He survives of the home. She is also survived by her daughters Michela Brown and her husband David of Abilene, Samantha Horn and her husband Tim of Kansas City, Kansas; sisters Cindi Casanova and her husband Edwin of Solomon, Dr. Shawnie Lamborn of Tulsa, Oklahoma; grandchildren Tyler Brown, Isabella Horn, and Makenzie Horn.

She was preceded in death by her parents. Services for Melody will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 3, 2023 at the Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home with Pastor Lindsey Brummer officiating. He graduated from Salina High School and joined the United States Marine Corps for two years and was stationed in Fallon, Nevada.&nbsp; 

He owned a family business “Jim’s Truck &amp; Trailer Service,” for and with his father, then later with his son Troy.&nbsp;

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapshooting, and hanging out with friends.&nbsp; He enjoyed playing pinball, video games, shooting pool, and playing pitch.&nbsp; Bob lived his life the way he wanted to live it.

He is survived by his children Debra Brite of Phoenix, AZ, Craig Brown of Salina, Tom Brown of Ellsworth, and Troy Freeman of Salina; sister Lois Skelton Myrtle Beach, SC, Darlene Volk of Osgood, IN, Cindy Holcomb and Loretta Gossid, both of Skiatook, Oklahoma.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife Gladys Freeman; and child, Terri Skogeho.

Cremation was chosen and a graveside will be scheduled at a later date in Franklin Cemetery, Tescott.

Pamela "Pam" Yvette Bracy, 69, passed away peacefully February 20, 2023. She was born on August 14, 1953 in Woodston, Kansas to Warren and Janeva Jones, who both preceded her death.

Pam was the oldest of four siblings, which undoubtedly led to her hard-working, nurturing, and selfless personality. She was rarely still, and spent her life making sure that those around her were happy and taken care of.

In 2016 Pam retired from the Internal Revenue Service where she spent her entire career. Being the first one in her family to attend college and earn a degree, she was very proud of the accomplishments that she had made, but at the same time humble enough to never broadcast them.

Pam’s passion for life was infectious. She had a quick wit and a great sense of humor that always put people at ease and made friends everywhere she went. She loved spending time with her family and friends and was always up for a game of pool or a shopping trip.

Pam will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her kindness and generosity touched the lives of many. 

Pam is survived by her daughter Danica Bracy, and siblings Tammy Jones, Jerry Jones and Fred Jones.

Shelly Beth Shelton, 71, returned home to the heavenly Father and 
took her place once again by her husband on February 23, 2023, in 
Salina. She was born on April 28, 1951, to Ivan S. &amp; Betty (Eastes) 
Freeman. She married her one true love, Douglas Shelton on January 16, 
1970, in Great Bend. He died October 17, 2014.

A long time Great Bend resident, Shelly was the office manager of 
Farley Machine Works until her retirement in 2014 to be by Doug’s side 
during his illness. She also had previously worked for Sunflower 
Diversified Services and Tomlinson Oil Company. Family and her love for 
them were most important to her. Next was her love for animals. Shelly 
always had a houseful and room for more.

Survivors include her son, Jason Shelton and wife Jenny, of Stafford;
 her daughter, Tasha Di Loreto and husband, Dan, of Salina; seven 
grandchildren, Austin McGinnes of Hutchinson, Jarod Shelton of Stafford,
 Jena Shelton of Stafford, McKenzie Green of Wichita, Lexus Di Loreto of
 Salina, Trista Shelton of Stafford and Danny Di Loreto of Salina; and 
four great-grandchildren, Jensyn and Caisyn Smith, Aidyn McGinnes, and 
Hadley Green, with another great-grandchild on the way. Also surviving 
her are her sisters-in-law, Melody Cell, Rhonda Shelton, and Sharon 
Wondra, and husband Harold, all of Great Bend and Michelle Shelton of 
Salina; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in 
death by her parents; and her husband, Doug Shelton.

Visitation will be held from Noon to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 28,
 2023, at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 5:00 
to 7:00 p.m. Graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, 
March 1, 2023, at the Great Bend Cemetery, with Pastor Tom Swain 
presiding.

Bill C. Romig, 84, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away Thursday, February 23, 2023 at Ascension Via Christi Village in Wichita. He was born February 20, 1939 in Hutchinson, the son of Carlyle Henry and Neva Fern (Carmichael) Romig. He graduated from Haven High School with the class of 1957. Bill later graduated from Hutchinson Community College in 1959, and received his bachelor’s degree in petroleum geology from Wichita State University in 1962. He was united in marriage to Karen E. Edwards on February 7, 1959 in Mt. Hope. Bill was a lifelong farmer and longtime petroleum geologist. Bill enjoyed watching all of his grandkids' and great-grandkids’ sports and activities. He loved dancing with Karen and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was loved and respected by not only the whole family but all of their friends. He is survived by his wife Karen; great-granddaughters Taylor and Addi Fiola of the home; six grandchildren, Luke, Kara, Katie, Cassie, Bailey and Tucker; three daughters, Penny (Eric) Powell, Debby (Mike) Williams, and Cindy (Rick) Horton; ten other great-grandchildren, Brylee, Jersie, Davin, Tate, Jase, Asa, Madden, Vivian, Adam, and Shylee; brother, Ray (Merrill) Romig; sister Kay Smyth; dogs Polly and Pearl; and several nieces and nephews. Romig, 84, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away Thursday, February 23, 2023 at Ascension Via Christi Village in Wichita. He was born February 20, 1939 in Hutchinson, the son of Carlyle Henry and Neva Fern (Carmichael) Romig. He graduated from Haven High School with the class of 1957. Bill later graduated from Hutchinson Community College in 1959, and received his bachelor’s degree in petroleum geology from Wichita State University in 1962. He was united in marriage to Karen E. Edwards on February 7, 1959 in Mt. Hope. Bill was a lifelong farmer and longtime petroleum geologist. Bill enjoyed watching all of his grandkids' and great-grandkids’ sports and activities. He loved dancing with Karen and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was loved and respected by not only the whole family but all of their friends. He is survived by his wife Karen; great-granddaughters Taylor and Addi Fiola of the home; six grandchildren, Luke, Kara, Katie, Cassie, Bailey and Tucker; three daughters, Penny (Eric) Powell, Debby (Mike) Williams, and Cindy (Rick) Horton; ten other great-grandchildren, Brylee, Jersie, Davin, Tate, Jase, Asa, Madden, Vivian, Adam, and Shylee; brother, Ray (Merrill) Romig; sister Kay Smyth; dogs Polly and Pearl; and several nieces and nephews. Joe Fall, 82, of Mankato, passed away February 22, 2023. Joe was born on August 5, 1940, the son of Alvin Sr. and Vila (Kelly) Fall of Mankato. 

Preceding Joe in death were his parents and three brothers Alvin Jr., Marvin, and William Kress. Joe was a life-long Jewell County resident.

At around the age of two, Joe received a traumatic brain injury after falling out of a moving car. The family was outside talking when Joe, who was playing in the parked car, accidently pulled it out of gear. The car began to roll down an incline and Joe fell out, hitting his head. As the car continued to roll, one of the two older brothers pulled him away from the moving car just before it ran over him. The head injury likely caused damage to the Bronco region of the brain, affecting his speech. While rehabilitation was probably a promising option, he was kept on the family farm and worked as a laborer instead.

Many of the family members viewed Joe’s life as sad. He would have had many more options had he been given an opportunity for rehabilitation and some education. Adding to this perspective were the family dynamics and dysfunction that created distance between family members. Unfortunately, Joe was part of the family mess, and the family grew apart. Most came to a peace knowing that sometimes trying to reconnect and heal causes more problems than does letting go. All of this was sad, especially for Joe.

But enough of the sad. There are some very beautiful things on which we prefer focus.

First, our heartfelt thanks to the people of Mankato who cared for and loved on Joe. Many of you showed him kindness and love – throughout his life and in his later years. To the remaining family, that is a beauty that outshines the sadness. Thank you. All of you.

Second, despite receiving no education, Joe taught himself basic reading, writing and math. He also learned how to work on cars, trucks, and repair farm equipment – no small feat for a man with no education.

Third, as kids, we used to love to hear Joe’s brother Marvin make him laugh. Marvin would talk about something silly only he and Joe had in common. Joe’s laughter would fill the home and raise the roof. At times we thought Joe was going to pass out he was laughing so hard and long. Sometimes he would ask Marvin to stop so he could catch his breath. You could not be in the same room with Joe laughing and not smile. That too, was beautiful.

Finally, we do not believe life ends at death. To the contrary, we believe life begins after our last breath… when we leave behind all our earthly &amp; human limitations, skewed ways of thinking, and baggage. Perhaps we become something closer to who God created us to be… before others mess us up. No, we don’t have any evidence, but we choose to believe it.

Something tells us Joe was welcomed home by his family in a way we can only imagine. A family who is now able to love and relate like they wanted to but couldn’t. We imagine there was a lot of noise, mostly an indistinct, very loud Fall-family-kind-of-noise. The kind that causes Italian families to pause their celebrations and take notice. A noisy reunion where Joe’s laugh echoes for all to enjoy.

Jenee was born on May 11, 1955, in McPherson, KS, the daughter of Martin and Verneta (Koehn) Yost.&nbsp; 

She graduated from Canton-Galva High School in 1973 and continued her education at Salt City Business College in Hutchinson.&nbsp; 

On September 11, 1976, Jenee was united in marriage to Craig C. Enochs in McPherson, KS.&nbsp; This union was blessed with two daughters, Alisa and Heather.

She was a longtime member of Harmony Christian Church, McPherson.

Survivors include her loving husband of 46 years, Craig of the home; daughters, Alisa (Daniel) Butler of Grundy Center, IA and Heather Enochs of Colorado Springs, CO; granddaughters Abigail and Ellie Butler; twin sister Renee (Randy) Carlson of McPherson, KS; brother Mike (Jonette) Yost of Hutchinson, KS; nieces and nephews David Yost, Nicholas Yost, Ryan Carlson, Rachelle McAlexander, and Rustin Carlson; and many more extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

ELLSWORTH James “Leonard” Parks, 97, passed away February 16, 2023 in Ellsworth. He was born September 2, 1925, in Holland Township, Dickinson County, KS to James and Elnora (Goldsmith) Parks.

He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII aboard the USS Makassar Straight and USS Arthur Middleton from 1943-1946. After returning from his military service, he worked for Missouri Pacific Railroad.

Leonard married Betty Jo Johnson in Utica, KS on October 31, 1948.

 Leonard received his bachelor’s degree from Bethany College in 1952 and later received his master’s from Fort Hays State University. He retired after over 30 years of teaching at Kanopolis Middle School. 

He was a member of the Ellsworth Masonic Lodge AF&amp;AM 146, Isis Shrine Temple, and Ellsworth VFW Post 6485. During his time with the Isis Temple, Leonard was most recognizable as an ISIS Shrine clown, donning the makeup for the circus, parades, and school and city events. He was also a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Ellsworth.

Leonard is survived by his daughters-in-law Terri Parks of Ellsworth and Dr. Pam Parks of Pueblo, CO, six grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Betty Jo Parks; sons Dr. Gary Parks and Greg Parks; brothers Charles “Bob”, Marvin, Eugene “Pat”, and Kenneth “Kenny”; and sisters Louise Woods and Henrietta Holmes.

Memorial service: 11:30 a.m., Friday, March 17, 2023 at First Presbyterian Church in Ellsworth. Inurnment will take place at a later date at the Beeler Cemetery, Beeler, KS.

Mothers are one of God’s blessings in our lives. Mothers teach us to have confidence and believe in ourselves. They love us with all their heart and soul. Mothers know from experience how important it was for her people to believe in themselves in order for her children to be whole, strong, and grow in healthy relationships. She lived with faith and courage. She was an inspiration and blessing to us all.

Cynthia Marie May, the second child of Louis and Marie Brummer, was born on September 15, 1930. She passed to her heavenly home on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at the Resident Care Center at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit, Kansas.

Cynthia attended St. Boniface Grade and High School. Following graduation, she taught at Holy Corner School for a number of years.

On October 21, 1953, Cynthia was wedded to Arthur May at the K of C Hall, Tipton’s temporary Catholic Church. They worked together hand in hand and enjoyed a happy wedded life. They were blessed with six children to complete their lives. Art and Cynthia were privileged to celebrate their 50th&nbsp;wedding anniversary with family and friends. One day after their 56th&nbsp;anniversary, Cynthia lost her devoted husband and soulmate.

Our mother wasn’t a strong woman, but a woman of strength kneeling in prayer to keep her soul in shape and her family and soul safe. She knelt in prayer as each storm passed, for each family member in war and at home and for her community. Although we can’t hear her voice or see her smile, she walks and kneels beside us daily.

Our mother was a woman of strength, showing courage in the midst of her fears. Never will I forget how she led the rosary at Cyrena’s bedside, never wavering after Grandpa Brummer laid his hand on her shoulder, or caressing my hand after my first brain surgery, or being at dad’s side after his accident until God took him home. Mom listened to us. She wiped away our tears and wrapped her arms around us, understanding how scared we were.

Mom never let anyone get the best of her, but was a woman of strength, giving her best to everyone. She gave us the virtues of giving of one’s self, enjoying simplicity, determination, happiness, love of family, and our faith in God and his blessed mother.

&nbsp;Mom made mistakes in her life but always realized them as one of God’s blessings and grew with each one.

Mom wasn’t always sure-footed. She had Dad by her side and always knew that God was walking with her and would catch her if she fell. Mom found strength in her rosary and her devotion to the Miraculous Medal. One bead, one decade at a time. Mom’s faith kept her strong while the world around her was in turmoil.

A strong woman wears the look of confidence on her face, but a woman of strength wears grace and pride. Mom was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her faith and family were the center of her life. Her unfailing support and tender care carried many family members through trials and difficult times. No, we can’t see her with our human eyes, but she will always answer us when we talk to her.

A strong woman has faith that she is strong enough for the journey, but a woman of strength has faith that in the journey she will become strong. Mom was very independent, or should we say determined? She was devoted to fulfilling her family needs. She offered comfort when needed, was liberal with praise, yet firm and uncompromising in her guidance and discipline.

Mom suffered a stroke in 2016 in Colorado, leaving her left side paralyzed. Heaven was not ready for Mom yet, so she moved to Beloit to be closer to family. She enjoyed visits from her children, grandchildren, and siblings, while all along never doubting God’s love and plan for her.

Left to cherish her memory is son Curtis and wife Christine; five daughters, Carmel and husband Steve Dlabal, Crystal and husband Jim Maguire, Cheri and husband Meredith Marrs, Cyrena and husband Steve Criswell, and Cyrilla and husband Todd Fahlsing. Also surviving are 19 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren, as well as two sisters, Sylvia Budke and Michelle Murrow, and three brothers, Victor, Harry, and Kenneth Brummer.

Cynthia was preceded in death by her husband Arthur; son-in-law Jeff Dunn; her parents Marie and Louis Brummer; a sister, Twyla Remus; and brothers Charles and Melvin Brummer.

Mom, when you closed your eyes and soared to Heaven, we could hear the faint flutter of your wings as you left and felt your love in our hearts and souls. Thank you for all your understanding, love, and support you have given us. Thank you for teaching us the true meaning of family. We love you, you will be forever in our hearts.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 25 at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Tipton. A rosary service will be at 7 p.m. Friday, and visitation will be from 5 p.m. until the rosary service begins at the church. 

Memorials may be given to the St. Boniface Memorial Trust Fund or Tipton Schools.

William J. Sherbert, owner and proprietor of SherBowl Lanes and Willy J's 9th&nbsp;Lane passed away February 19, 2023. Bill was born on January 25, 1939, in Broughton, Kansas. 

He was the oldest son of Bert and Opal (Bisnett) Sherbert. 

Bill spent his youth in Wakefield, KS graduating with the class of 1957 from Wakefield Rural High School.

Early on as a young boy and man, Bill enjoyed hunting and fishing. 

He was united in marriage to LaDonna Hess on May 31, 1959, in Wakefield and the couple were blessed with two children, Donna and Daniel. 

The family moved to Marion in 1964 from Council Grove when Bill was working as a dynamite man for Riddle Construction, later Hallet Construction. He and his crew produced the rock for the construction of Council Grove and Marion Reservoir Dams during that time. At the time of his retirement in 1987, Bill was superintendent of five quarries.

He and LaDonna built their home in 1978, where Bill owned and operated a saw-blade sharpening business, B &amp; L Sharpening. Later, he and his business partner Alan Richmond, formed and operated B &amp; A Game Bird Farm. Bill also worked part-time for Marion Manufacturing from 1990 to 2004. Throughout the years Bill also enjoyed gardening, often growing more than the family could handle. In the summer of 2001, Bill became a founding member of the Marion Chapter of Quail Unlimited, which later switched to Quail Forever in 2005. He stayed on the board for many years and helped to organize their events. 

When the opportunity arose in 2003, Bill and LaDonna purchased Mar-Bowl Lanes and later renamed it SherBowl Lanes. Five years later, Willy J’s 9th Lane Sports Bar was built and Bill enjoyed many evenings meeting people and making new friends. Bill encouraged young bowlers by helping develop youth league and teaching them fundamentals of bowling.&nbsp;

Bill and LaDonna moved to Homestead Apartments in 2017.&nbsp; Two and a half years after LaDonna's passing in 2020, Bill moved to Marion Assisted Living, where in dealing with health issues, he passed away peacefully surrounded by family.

His greatest joy was his family which includes his children Donna (Randy) Bryant of Marion, and Daniel Sherbert of Marion; grandchildren Dustin (Summer) Sherbert, Jayden Hallowell, Ryan (Leigh) Funk, Jason (Tiffany) Funk, and Joshua (Dawnell) Funk; and nine great-grandchildren.

&nbsp;Bill is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, LaDonna, granddaughter Lyndsay Rae Sherbert, his parents, and brothers, Maynard and Jack Sherbert. 

Friends may pay their respects at Yazel Megli Funeral Home, Marion from 2-7 p.m., family 5-7 on Friday, February 24th. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, February 25th at 11 a.m. in the Marion Cemetery.

Joseph Leo Jaster, 95 of Concordia, Kansas passed away Wednesday February 22, 2023 at North Central Kansas Medical Center. He was born June 1, 1927 in Leavenworth, Kansas the son of Otto C.&nbsp; and Lillian (Wahler) Jaster. 

He was the youngest of five and the last remaining member of his family, preceded by his siblings Clarence, Gertrude, Loretta, and Wilford.

He graduated from Immaculata High School in Leavenworth and was drafted into the Army Air Corps at the end of the war. On discharge he owned and operated a tobacco store in Enid, Oklahoma. 

He moved to Concordia, Kansas and began working for the Gambles store and after “love at first sight,” he married Alice Marie Landry, Sept 14, 1953. He worked and then managed Gambles stores in Salina, Abilene, Ottawa, Beloit and Eldorado, Kansas. They moved to Concordia in 1968 after he had already began traveling Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado and Oklahoma, representing the wholesale furniture company Blackwell’s in Kansas City until it closed. He continued to work in many other areas of sales in Salina and Concordia till retirement.

Joe loved telling stories and bowling and continued to bowl until he was 94, and did not ever stop telling stories. He also loved trimming trees and yard work. He was especially proud of growing dahlias many of which he inherited from his father.&nbsp; He became an excellent table tennis player when in the service and loved playing and doing so well until his 90s.

He and Alice have five children, Angela Jaster of New Orleans (LA), Diana (Dick) Bieker of Concordia (KS), Paul Jaster MD of Salina (KS), Julie (Dino) Brichalli of Topeka (KS), and John (Brenda) Jaster of Auburndale (MA).

Joe is survived by his wife Alice, 89, (now living at Park Villa Nursing Home in Clyde, KS where they moved last year) and all of his children with 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Joe and Alice were married at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Concordia, KS and were members since 1968 when the family moved back to Concordia.

Memorial service to be announced at a later date. Burial at St. Concordia Catholic Cemetery, Concordia, Kansas.

Jeffery D. Munz, age 68 of Great Bend, Kansas, passed away at his 
home in Great Bend on Wednesday afternoon, February 22, 2023.&nbsp; Jeffery 
was born on March 30, 1954 at St. John, Kansas to Karl and Ruby 
(Lambert) Munz.&nbsp; 

He served in the U.S. Army, and received his Bachelor’s
 Degree in Accounting from the University of Kansas and his Master’s 
Degree in Accounting from the University of Missouri – Kansas City.&nbsp; He 
moved to Great Bend in 1983 from Westport, Kansas City, Missouri and 
worked as Accountant for Lee Turner and Turner Farms in Great Bend, and 
Dechant &amp; Taylor Chartered Accounting in La Crosse, Kansas, prior to 
his retirement in 2016.&nbsp; Jeffery enjoyed traveling and taking 
photographs, hunting, gardening, carpentry, and loved to play Bridge.&nbsp; 
He was an avid K.U. Jayhawks Basketball fan.

Survivors include one son, Samuel (&amp; Tayler) Munz of Wamego, 
Kansas and one daughter, Lucy K.M. Munz of Essex, Vermont; two 
grandchildren:&nbsp; James and Madeline Munz; his partner Janet Oberle of 
Salina, Kansas; two brothers:&nbsp; Juan (&amp; Belinda) Munz of St. John, 
Kansas and Rev. Jerry (&amp; Joyce) Munz of Lakeland, Florida; one 
sister Jodine (&amp; Douglas) Trout of Osceola, Missouri; one

many great-nieces and great-nephews, and countless friends.&nbsp; Jeffery was

Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at the First
 Congregational Church in Great Bend with Reverend Mike Munz 
officiating.&nbsp; Inurnment will follow at Trinity Cemetery near Hudson, 
Kansas. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, March 3, 
2023 at Charter Funerals in Great Bend.&nbsp; 

Memorials may be made in care 
of the family for later designation.

 </figure>Jeffery D. Munz, age 68 of Great Bend, Kansas, passed away at his 
home in Great Bend on Wednesday afternoon, February 22, 2023.&nbsp; Jeffery 
was born on March 30, 1954 at St. John, Kansas to Karl and Ruby 
(Lambert) Munz.&nbsp; He served in the U.S. Army, and received his Bachelor’s
 Degree in Accounting from the University of Kansas and his Master’s 
Degree in Accounting from the University of Missouri – Kansas City.&nbsp; He 
moved to Great Bend in 1983 from Westport, Kansas City, Missouri and 
worked as Accountant for Lee Turner and Turner Farms in Great Bend, and 
Dechant &amp; Taylor Chartered Accounting in La Crosse, Kansas, prior to 
his retirement in 2016.&nbsp; Jeffery enjoyed traveling and taking 
photographs, hunting, gardening, carpentry, and loved to play Bridge.&nbsp; 
He was an avid K.U. Jayhawks Basketball fan.Survivors include one son, Samuel (&amp; Tayler) Munz of Wamego, 
Kansas and one daughter, Lucy K.M. Munz of Essex, Vermont; two 
grandchildren:&nbsp; James and Madeline Munz; his partner Janet Oberle of 
Salina, Kansas; two brothers:&nbsp; Juan (&amp; Belinda) Munz of St. John, 
Kansas and Rev. Jerry (&amp; Joyce) Munz of Lakeland, Florida; one 
sister Jodine (&amp; Douglas) Trout of Osceola, Missouri; one 
brother-in-law Chuck Theel of Olathe, Kansas; nine nieces and nephews, 
many great-nieces and great-nephews, and countless friends.&nbsp; Jeffery was

John D. Smutz Sr., 97, of Salina, passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2023.&nbsp; He was born March 11, 1925, on a farm in Pawnee City, NE to William Walter and Esther Amelia (Bennett) Smutz.&nbsp; 

He attended grade school in a one-room country school in Pawnee City, NE.&nbsp; He received his formal education at the University of Nebraska. He was a member of ATO fraternity, Northwestern University and Penn State, where he graduated with a bachelor’s in architectural engineering.

John was a candidate at the Marine Corps Academy at Quantico, Virginia, and received his commission.&nbsp; He served in the Marine Corps during WWII and later in the Korean War, as a rifle platoon leader.&nbsp; 

While stationed at a Naval Ammunition Dept. in Virginia, he met his future wife, Helen, a secretary at the munition plant.&nbsp; 

Shortly thereafter, John was transferred to a NAD in Hastings, Nebraska, for release to inactive duty.&nbsp; Helen joined him later, and they were married in Pawnee City, in 1946.&nbsp;
