By LISA MOSER KSRE The average age of the herd can be a factor to consider when making culling decisions There are times in life when tough decisions have to be made, and in the beef business that can come when feed resources are limited or a time of generational transition, said the experts at Kansas State University’s Beef Cattle Institute during a recent&nbsp;<a href="https://ksubci.org/2023/09/29/how-do-i-prevent-pregnancy-loss-culling-decisions-at-preg-checking-infertility-vs-pre-loss/">Cattle Chat</a>&nbsp;podcast.

“Cows that are not bred are often the first ones to leave the ranch when making a culling decision,” said K-State veterinarian Brad White. “But after that group has been eliminated, there are several factors that guide which group of cattle will be cut from the herd next.”

Some of these include the average age of the herd, pregnancy timing, long-term feed resource availability and market conditions, according to the experts.

“The first thing I want to know is if I’m making a culling decision for just this year or if it is a situation where I’m going to be reducing the herd size over multiple years,” said K-State veterinarian Brian Lubbers. “If I am planning to get out of the cattle business over the next several years versus having a plan to build back my herd size after the drought, those are very different strategies.”

K-State beef cattle nutritionist Phillip Lancaster agreed and said that often this decision is more complex than a yes or no answer regarding a specific group within the herd.

“The first ones to be sold might be a young heifer or a bred first-calf heifer that was bred late in the breeding season because she doesn’t fit with my calving season very well and the market potential right now is good,” Lancaster said.

In contrast, White said that the decision for him depends on the average age of the herd.

“If I have an older herd, I don’t want to make the average age even greater by selling off the young females,” White said.

The performance of the calves the cows raise might also influence the culling decision, agreed the experts.

“While I typically don’t cull on calf performance alone, in a year when I must reduce the herd, I may move that cow higher on my list to sell if she raises a lower-performing calf,” said K-State veterinarian Bob Larson.

The other factor to consider is the temperament of the cow, White said.

“If she has an attitude, she is the first to go down the road,” he said.

Killer Queen to perform at Stiefel in February

On Tuesday afternoon, Arby's located on 9th Street in Salina, gifted Big Brothers Big Sisters of Salina $2,800 in the form of a giant check. According to Arby's and BBBS leadership teams the partnership is so much more than "just money."

Funds received from The&nbsp;Arby’s Foundation will be used to&nbsp;provide opportunities for matches to participate in fun and engaging activities throughout the community as well as funding match support and mentoring relationship advancement training.

Accepting the check on behalf of the organization was Amanda Otto, executive director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Salina.

"We can not thank Arby’s employees enough," Otto said. "Arby's employees volunteered their time at BBBS of Salina’s annual charity golf tournament, Hook &amp; Slice. Also Arby’s supports Bigs and Littles time together by providing matches with food coupons."

Hamdoon Ismail, director of operations for the Arby's Wichita market, said the money gifted to BBBS was raised through $1 donations during the Spring and Fall as part of the company's 'Make a Difference' campaign.&nbsp;

"The dollars raised during these campaigns have a significant impact on the lives of kids in our local area," Ismail said. "What I love about this campaign is half of the funds raised support our nonprofit national partners such as No Kid Hungry, Big Brothers Big Sisters and Folds of Honor, while the other half of the funds raised in our market will go back to supporting youth-serving nonprofits in our local communities."

Ismail said every person who gives a $1 donation at their next visit to Arby's will receive a free small fry and cup of cheddar coupon for their next visit.&nbsp;

On Thursday, October 5th, Inco USA of Olathe will begin installing a gutter to facilitate drainage in the on-street parking area east of the Salina Regional Health Center.

During construction access to the short-term on-street parking and the west lane of Santa Fe will be restricted.

The repair will be completed by adjusting the asphalt surface on both sides of the gutter. That work has not yet been scheduled, thus the duration of the closures is at this time still unknown.

This work is part of the City of Salina's $4.7 million 2023 street maintenance capital improvement program.

SRHC drainage repair to impact vehicle traffic on Santa Fe Ave

On Thursday through Friday, October 5th through 13th, APAC Shears of Salina will begin work on the City of Salina’s annual asphalt mill and inlay project. The schedule is as follows, weather permitting:

The work consists of milling the existing asphalt street surface 1.5” to 2” and replacing it with new asphalt to rehabilitate and preserve the pavement section. Permanent pavement markings will be placed shortly after the resurfacing.

Moundview and Republic will be closed to traffic while the work is completed; Magnolia will be open but flagger controlled. Motorists should expect modest delays and are encouraged to avoid the work zones altogether if possible.

The $1,016,000 project is a major component of the City of Salina's $4.7 million 2023 maintenance capital improvement program.

The issue of foreign investment and land purchases in Kansas is once again in the news. Last week, Attorney General Kris Kobach called on the Kansas Legislature to restrict&nbsp;the ability of foreign individuals and corporations to purchase or lease&nbsp;large parcels of&nbsp;land in Kansas. Kobach warned that failure to address this issue posed a threat to&nbsp;national&nbsp;security&nbsp;and the&nbsp;food&nbsp;supply chain.

This issue is not new to Kansas, nor to other states. Last year, the Kansas Legislature considered, but did not act on, multiple bills that contained language limiting foreign control of Kansas land joining more than 30 other states that considered similar legislation.&nbsp;This phenomenon raises significant questions about property rights, national security, and the real estate market. &nbsp;

A number of factors are driving&nbsp;the&nbsp;growing interest&nbsp;among state governments&nbsp;in&nbsp;regulating&nbsp;foreign investment and land ownership.&nbsp;

One of the primary reasons cited in support of these restrictions is national security. Some government officials have expressed concerns that allowing foreign citizens and corporations to buy large parcels of land gives them an undue&nbsp;influence&nbsp;over&nbsp;our politics and economy.

Geopolitical tensions between China and the United States have also&nbsp;certainly&nbsp;played a role in the recent implementation of land purchase and lease restrictions.&nbsp;For example, proponents of these policies&nbsp;argue that real&nbsp;estate holdings provide a strategic footprint in a country or state, which may pose&nbsp;a&nbsp;national&nbsp;security threat. This argument often involves concerns over potential spying.&nbsp;These heightened political disputes, including the Chinese balloon incident earlier this year, have led to limiting Chinese investment in the name of protecting national interest. &nbsp;

Another factor contributing to&nbsp;support for these restrictions is worry over how foreign investment will&nbsp;impact&nbsp;local property markets. Foreign investors have the ability to invest heavily in real estate, driving up property prices.&nbsp;This could lead to a scarcity of affordable land for local residents. Kobach echoed these concerns arguing that farmers would have to compete in local markets&nbsp;where foreign investment has distorted land value.&nbsp;

While restricting land purchases by foreign interests may address concerns related to national security and rising property prices, it also raises important questions about property rights and fairness.&nbsp;

The American Civil Liberties Union has already promised to fight&nbsp;state restrictions on&nbsp;the ability of foreign nationals living and working in the states to purchase land. They have argued that these bills are a discriminatory overreach by state governments.&nbsp;

Further, other groups, including those tied to agricultural interests, have cautioned state lawmakers&nbsp;about growinggovernment involvement in the free market. &nbsp;

Opponents of these restrictions&nbsp;also&nbsp;caution that they play into unfounded, xenophobic fears, which divide our already fractured political landscape.&nbsp;This may be particularly true when considered with the fact that Chinese land ownership in Kansas is actually very limited.&nbsp;

Moving forward, Kansas must carefully consider the implications of such restrictions, weighing the potential benefits against the risks they pose&nbsp;to&nbsp;economic growth and property rights.&nbsp;

What’s worse than a bogus charity? A bogus charity with a dishonest fundraiser. The FTC has sued and stopped dishonest charity fundraisers that&nbsp;<a href="https://consumer.ftc.gov/consumer-alerts/2020/09/spot-and-stop-dishonest-charity-fundraisers">called people</a>&nbsp;to get them to donate to fake charities. Some prey on your kindness and desire to help people impacted by weather emergencies or a disaster. But when you get a call from a charity fundraiser, how do you know the caller is telling you the truth?

Ask the caller specific questions.

What is the charity’s name, phone number, or address? Write these down so you can confirm them later. Keep in mind that many charity names sound alike, and that sham charities often use names that are sound and look like names of legitimate charities.

How much of your donation will go directly to the programs you want to support?

Will your donation be tax-deductible? Not every call seeking a donation is from a charity. Some calls might be from Political Action Committees or other groups where donations are not deductible. See more questions to ask here.

Resist the pressure to donate on the spot.

After you’ve listened to the caller, hang up the phone and think about what they said. Then, go online and do your own research:

FTC: How to spot and stop dishonest charity fundraisers

Employees of Memorial Health System (MHS) in Abilene wore blue jeans at work for another “Jeans Day” fundraiser on Fridays throughout the month of September. 

Employees make a donation, of at least $5, and they are allowed to wear blue jeans at work. For September, a total donation of $1,450 was presented to Tori Murphy, organizer of Derrik’s Ride. 

To date, this is the largest donation made for Jeans Day by the employees of MHS, which surpassed the previous record, which was to Derrik’s Ride in 2022. Derrik’s Ride is an annual event to help in the fight against childhood cancer, which features a poker run, bike show, dinner, auction, live band, and more.

The 39th&nbsp;edition of Late Night in the Phog is set for Friday, Oct. 6, at 6:30 p.m. CT, inside historic Allen Fieldhouse. Student gates will open at 5:15 p.m., while the general public gates will open at 5:30 p.m. For broadcast purposes, the women’s scrimmage will begin at approximately 7:20 p.m., while the men will start at 8:20 p.m. Unfortunately, due to copyright music and artist contracts, only the scrimmages will be broadcast. Though Late Night is free admission, the event is sold out and all tickets have been allocated.

Four-time Grammy Nominee and 42-time Platinum selling artist, Flo Rida will headline this year’s Late Night in the Phog. In addition to HyVee, the production of Late Night in the Phog is supported by Jayhawk Sports Properties corporate partners – Wendy’s, Crown Automotive, LMH Health, Raising Cane’s and adidas.

With the ongoing construction in Allen Fieldhouse, there will be signage directing fans on Friday. One of the many enhancements of Allen Fieldhouse is the lighting in the interior bowl of the facility, which was replaced this past summer.

ADA seating will be on the east side of the court for Late Night and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Limited mobility patrons will be able to sit in sections 9 and 14 and hearing-impaired patrons in sections F and G, both on a first-come, first-served basis. Those needing ADA, limited mobility or hearing-impaired seating should all enter through Gate 11. Seating in sections D1-K1 on the east side will only be accessible from the second level due to the wheelchair seating on the east side of the building.

As instituted in 2022, Late Night in the Phog will feature a re-imagined run of show designed to enhance the fan experience. Among the features fans can expect include:

● A new staging look. ● Music by the KU Pep Band and DJ Heat, an official DJ of the Washington Wizards and Mystics. ● One on-mic host to engage the crowd and student-athletes; Scott Freshour from the Sacramento Kings. ● Routines from KU’s spirit squad and dance teams. ● Videos from KU’s award-winning Rock Chalk Video department. ● Enhanced coach and player introductions, interactions, and scrimmages. ● Flo Rida, who has recorded 12 chart-topping songs and numerous other hits as a featured artist. He has more than 80 million sold combined albums and singles and is one of the most popular musicians on social media with more than 15 million followers on Facebook, 4.7 million on Twitter (X) and has received more than two billion views on YouTube.

Kansas Athletics will also host Phog Fest on the front lawn of Allen Fieldhouse before Late Night, with activities starting at 2:30 p.m. It will have activities for all fans to enjoy leading up to Late Night, including the Hawk Zone with inflatable games, music and much more. Phog Fest will also include food trucks, giveaways from a variety of sponsors, interactive displays and more.

Fans are once again encouraged to bring non-perishable food items, which Kansas Athletics will donate to Just Food of Douglas County who also supports the Campus Cupboard benefitting KU students. Non-perishable food and monetary donations supporting Just Food will be accepted throughout the day at Phog Fest and at all entrances to Allen Fieldhouse. Just Foods serves on average 250-450 households per week.

Free parking will be available in Lot 90, east and south of Allen Fieldhouse across Naismith Drive, beginning at 2 p.m. Fans may also park in the parking garage just north of Allen Fieldhouse with hourly rates until 4 p.m., at which time garage parking will be $5 per car. Lower levels of the parking garage will be reserved. All other normal campus parking rules apply.

In accordance with the&nbsp;<a href="https://policy.ku.edu/chancellor/public-health-safety-requirements" target="_blank">University of Kansas</a>, KU’s&nbsp;<a href="http://www.kuathletics.com/sports/2017/5/3/clear-bag-policy.aspx" target="_blank">clear-bag policy</a>&nbsp;and walk-through metal detectors will be enforced for those entering Allen Fieldhouse.

Sacred Heart Junior/Senior High School began celebrating its Homecoming Week on Sunday, complete with daily themes, a Wednesday barbeque, and a Saturday evening dance to conclude the school spirit-filled week.

Students began decorating the halls for their "spirit week" Sunday afternoon, preparing the school for Homecoming.

The spirit themes include "Roll out of Bed" on Monday, "Dress as your Younger Self" on Tuesday, "Business on Top, Party on Bottom" on Wednesday, "Monochromatic" on Thursday and "Blue and Gold Day" on Friday.

Each day allows students to dress up within the theme, from pajamas on Monday to wearing school-themed clothing on Friday.

School staff will allow students to dress as they want within the school dress code.

Sacred Heart will host multiple Homecoming festivities in the afternoon on Wednesday, finishing the evening with a barbeque at 6 p.m.

The royalty candidates will appear with other students, with games and celebrations to kick off the evening.

On Friday, Oct. 6, during the Sacred Heart football game against Wabunsee Junior and Senior High School, staff will coronate the winners during halftime.

This year's queen candidates at Sacred Heart include seniors Avery Eshleman,&nbsp;Maegan Torrey,&nbsp;Sydney Goetz,&nbsp;Emma Roberts and&nbsp;Gracy Dorzweiler.

Sacred Heart's king candidates include&nbsp;Michael Matteucci,&nbsp;Evan Bogart,&nbsp;Cameron Yohe,&nbsp;Luca Adami and&nbsp;Andy Marshall

Each student stays involved in the school, varying from choral groups to sports.

Avery is the daughter of Dan and Petey Eshleman. She has been
involved in volleyball and basketball, lettering four years in both. She was also involved
in softball for two years. She has participated in Jr. Civitan, SAFE, Relay for Life, FIAT,
and CYO. This year, Avery is a co-editor of the yearbook, a co-captain of the Margaret
Mary community, and a member of the Senior Cabinet. She is a member of the National
Honor Society and has been on the High Honor Roll all four years at Sacred Heart. After
graduation, Avery plans on attending Fort Hays State University to continue her
volleyball career and study Nursing or Radiology.


 Michael is the son of Michael and Sara Matteucci. Michael has
participated in football, basketball, and golf lettering all four years in each. He finished in
first place at the 2023 2a state golf championship. He is also a member of S.A.F.E.,
Junior Civitan, and Chess Club. He is unsure what college to attend, but he
plans to study physical therapy and hopes to play golf.


Maegan is the daughter of Patrick and Sarah Torrey. She has been
involved in Volleyball for three years, basketball and softball for four years, and lettering all four years.
During high school, she has participated in Junior Civitan, FIAT, SAFE and is a member
of the Senior cabinet. Maegan is on the leadership team for CYO and the Co-Captain
for the Mother Teresa Community. She is a member of the National Honor Society and
has been on the High Honor Roll all four years. Maegan’s future plans include attending a
four-year university and pursuing a bachelor's degree in diagnostic medical sonography.


Evan is the son of Tyler and Angie Bogart. Evan has participated in
football and baseball for four years and lettered all four years and basketball for four
years, lettering for three of them. He is a member of the National Honor Society. He has
been a junior Civitan for four years, Safe for 3 years and a house and community leader
for two years. Evan would like to play baseball in college but is still undecided about college and a major.


Sydney is the daughter of Melissa and Terry Goetz. She has
participated and lettered in both Volleyball and Basketball for 4 years. She was involved
in track for 2 years, lettering both years and earning one state medal. Sydney is a
Senior leader in the Margaret Mary community, on the CYO leadership council, a
member of the National Honor Society, and has been on the high honor roll all four years at
Sacred Heart. She is also a member of S.A.F.E, Fiat, Pep band, Relay for Life, and Jr.
Civitain. After graduation, Sydney plans to attend Kansas State University and major in
Elementary Education.


Cameron is the son of Chris and Jennifer Yohe. Cameron has
participated in Football and baseball all 4 years, lettering in both all 4 years. He is a
member of Junior Civitan and SAFE. Cameron is a member of the National Honor
Society and has been on the honor roll all 4 years of high school. Cameron plans to
further his academic and athletic career by studying agriculture while playing baseball in
college, but he is undecided on where he will attend.


Emma is the daughter of Bill and Kayla Roberts and the youngest of 4
kids who have all attended and completed their education at Sacred Heart. Emma has
been a member of the cross country team, for all 4 years, the track team for three years, and the women’s
basketball manager for three years. She is the Mother Teresa community co-captain and has
been a Community House leader every year. Emma has been in the yearbook for three years,
band and pep band for four years and has made the high honor roll every year. She is a
member of the National Honor Society, a council member of the Salina Catholic Youth
Organization, a founder of Fiat Catholic Women's Group at Sacred Heart and a member
of the Salina Diocese Youth Council. After high school, Emma plans to attend
Benedictine College to further her formation and education, and she plans to major in
Theology.


Luca is an exchange student from Bergamo, Italy. He is the son of
Stefano and Pierry Adami and the host son of Keegan and Mandy Wilson. While in the
United States, Luca will participate in Football, Basketball and Tennis. Luca is most
excited about being as involved as possible at Sacred Heart, making memories and
building friendships that will last a lifetime. After his time in Salina, he will finish his final
year of High school in Italy. He hopes to one day attend college in the U.S.


Gracy is the daughter of Steve and Angie Dorzweiler. She has been
involved in volleyball, basketball and debate for two years, lettering one year each. She was a state medalist in debate for one year. She also has run cross country for three years, medaling as a team twice and as an individual once. She has been a part of the
track team for three years, earning several medals, one of which was the state champion in
the 4x800 meter relay. She has been on the leadership team all four years of high school,
is a member of the senior cabinet and has been on the high honor roll all her years in
high school. She is a member of the National Honor Society, S.A.F.E., Jr Civitan, Fiat, and
Relay for Life. After high school, she plans on attending Washburn University, where
she will run on their track and cross country team and major in marketing. She will then
further her education by studying law.


Andy is the son of Lynn and Curt Marshall. He has participated in
basketball for one year, powerlifting for three years, and football for four years, lettering
all four years. He has also participated in the Scholars Bowl for three years, twice winning the 2A State Championship. He is the Senior Class President, Chess Club President, and
Junior Civitan Club President. He plans to attend a four-year college to pursue
pre-medicine.

 </figure>By OLIVIA BERGMEIER Salina PostSacred Heart Junior/Senior High School began celebrating its Homecoming Week on Sunday, complete with daily themes, a Wednesday barbeque, and a Saturday evening dance to conclude the school spirit-filled week.Students began decorating the halls for their "spirit week" Sunday afternoon, preparing the school for Homecoming.The spirit themes include "Roll out of Bed" on Monday, "Dress as your Younger Self" on Tuesday, "Business on Top, Party on Bottom" on Wednesday, "Monochromatic" on Thursday and "Blue and Gold Day" on Friday.Each day allows students to dress up within the theme, from pajamas on Monday to wearing school-themed clothing on Friday.School staff will allow students to dress as they want within the school dress code.<h2>The Barbeque</h2>Sacred Heart will host multiple Homecoming festivities in the afternoon on Wednesday, finishing the evening with a barbeque at 6 p.m.The royalty candidates will appear with other students, with games and celebrations to kick off the evening.On Friday, Oct. 6, during the Sacred Heart football game against Wabunsee Junior and Senior High School, staff will coronate the winners during halftime.<h2>The King and Queen Candidates</h2>This year's queen candidates at Sacred Heart include seniors Avery Eshleman,&nbsp;Maegan Torrey,&nbsp;Sydney Goetz,&nbsp;Emma Roberts and&nbsp;Gracy Dorzweiler.Sacred Heart's king candidates include&nbsp;Michael Matteucci,&nbsp;Evan Bogart,&nbsp;Cameron Yohe,&nbsp;Luca Adami and&nbsp;Andy MarshallEach student stays involved in the school, varying from choral groups to sports.Avery EshlemanAvery is the daughter of Dan and Petey Eshleman. She has been
involved in volleyball and basketball, lettering four years in both. She was also involved
in softball for two years. She has participated in Jr. Civitan, SAFE, Relay for Life, FIAT,
and CYO. This year, Avery is a co-editor of the yearbook, a co-captain of the Margaret
Mary community, and a member of the Senior Cabinet. She is a member of the National
Honor Society and has been on the High Honor Roll all four years at Sacred Heart. After
graduation, Avery plans on attending Fort Hays State University to continue her
volleyball career and study Nursing or Radiology.
Michael Matteucci Michael is the son of Michael and Sara Matteucci. Michael has
participated in football, basketball, and golf lettering all four years in each. He finished in
first place at the 2023 2a state golf championship. He is also a member of S.A.F.E.,
Junior Civitan, and Chess Club. He is unsure what college to attend, but he
plans to study physical therapy and hopes to play golf.
Maegan TorreyMaegan is the daughter of Patrick and Sarah Torrey. She has been
involved in Volleyball for three years, basketball and softball for four years, and lettering all four years.
During high school, she has participated in Junior Civitan, FIAT, SAFE and is a member
of the Senior cabinet. Maegan is on the leadership team for CYO and the Co-Captain
for the Mother Teresa Community. She is a member of the National Honor Society and
has been on the High Honor Roll all four years. Maegan’s future plans include attending a
four-year university and pursuing a bachelor's degree in diagnostic medical sonography.
Evan BogartEvan is the son of Tyler and Angie Bogart. Evan has participated in
football and baseball for four years and lettered all four years and basketball for four
years, lettering for three of them. He is a member of the National Honor Society. He has
been a junior Civitan for four years, Safe for 3 years and a house and community leader
for two years. Evan would like to play baseball in college but is still undecided about college and a major.
Sydney GoetzSydney is the daughter of Melissa and Terry Goetz. She has
participated and lettered in both Volleyball and Basketball for 4 years. She was involved
in track for 2 years, lettering both years and earning one state medal. Sydney is a
Senior leader in the Margaret Mary community, on the CYO leadership council, a
member of the National Honor Society, and has been on the high honor roll all four years at
Sacred Heart. She is also a member of S.A.F.E, Fiat, Pep band, Relay for Life, and Jr.
Civitain. After graduation, Sydney plans to attend Kansas State University and major in
Elementary Education.
Cameron YoheCameron is the son of Chris and Jennifer Yohe. Cameron has
participated in Football and baseball all 4 years, lettering in both all 4 years. He is a
member of Junior Civitan and SAFE. Cameron is a member of the National Honor
Society and has been on the honor roll all 4 years of high school. Cameron plans to
further his academic and athletic career by studying agriculture while playing baseball in
college, but he is undecided on where he will attend.
Emma RobertsEmma is the daughter of Bill and Kayla Roberts and the youngest of 4
kids who have all attended and completed their education at Sacred Heart. Emma has
been a member of the cross country team, for all 4 years, the track team for three years, and the women’s
basketball manager for three years. She is the Mother Teresa community co-captain and has
been a Community House leader every year. Emma has been in the yearbook for three years,
band and pep band for four years and has made the high honor roll every year. She is a
member of the National Honor Society, a council member of the Salina Catholic Youth
Organization, a founder of Fiat Catholic Women's Group at Sacred Heart and a member
of the Salina Diocese Youth Council. After high school, Emma plans to attend
Benedictine College to further her formation and education, and she plans to major in
Theology.
Luca AdamiLuca is an exchange student from Bergamo, Italy. He is the son of
Stefano and Pierry Adami and the host son of Keegan and Mandy Wilson. While in the
United States, Luca will participate in Football, Basketball and Tennis. Luca is most
excited about being as involved as possible at Sacred Heart, making memories and
building friendships that will last a lifetime. After his time in Salina, he will finish his final
year of High school in Italy. He hopes to one day attend college in the U.S.
Gracy DorzweilerGracy is the daughter of Steve and Angie Dorzweiler. She has been
involved in volleyball, basketball and debate for two years, lettering one year each. She was a state medalist in debate for one year. She also has run cross country for three years, medaling as a team twice and as an individual once. She has been a part of the
track team for three years, earning several medals, one of which was the state champion in
the 4x800 meter relay. She has been on the leadership team all four years of high school,
is a member of the senior cabinet and has been on the high honor roll all her years in
high school. She is a member of the National Honor Society, S.A.F.E., Jr Civitan, Fiat, and
Relay for Life. After high school, she plans on attending Washburn University, where
she will run on their track and cross country team and major in marketing. She will then
further her education by studying law.
Andy MarshallAndy is the son of Lynn and Curt Marshall. He has participated in
basketball for one year, powerlifting for three years, and football for four years, lettering
all four years. He has also participated in the Scholars Bowl for three years, twice winning the 2A State Championship. He is the Senior Class President, Chess Club President, and
Junior Civitan Club President. He plans to attend a four-year college to pursue
pre-medicine.
