Located in the heart of downtown Salina at 150 South Santa Fe Avenue, the Salina Art Center Cinema invites film lovers to immerse themselves in two captivating cinematic experiences this November with Francis Ford Coppola’s visionary epic Megalopolis and Megan Park’s thoughtful coming-of-age comedy My Old Ass.

Megalopolis

November 1-6

In his most ambitious work since "Apocalypse Now," legendary filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola crafts a monumental tale set in a futuristic, dystopian world with Megalopolis. Exploring themes of power, decay, and the clash between idealism and corruption, Coppola takes audiences on a journey through the rise and fall of a utopian vision against the morally bankrupt backdrop of New Rome.

Adam Driver stars as Cesar Catilina, an inventor dreaming of a peaceful, isolated society. However, he faces fierce opposition from New Rome’s Mayor Franklyn Cicero, portrayed by Giancarlo Esposito, a character who embodies the spiritual decay Catilina resists. The film also features a star-studded cast, including Nathalie Emmanuel, Jon Voight, Dustin Hoffman, Laurence Fishburne, Shia LeBeouf, and Aubrey Plaza. Known for his visually poetic style, Coppola’s unique cinematic flair lights up this sci-fi setting, offering a blend of grandeur and eccentricity that will captivate viewers.

Megalopolis is rated R for sexual content, nudity, profanity, drug use, and violence.

My Old Ass

November 8-13

Following "Megalopolis," the cinema will present Megan Park’s heartfelt comedy My Old Ass. The story follows 18-year-old Elliott (Maisy Stella), a Gen Z teen on the brink of adulthood. A unique twist brings Elliott face-to-face with her middle-aged self, played by Aubrey Plaza, leading to humorous and heartwarming reflections on life, identity, and self-acceptance. The interaction between young and older Elliott becomes a journey of growth and understanding, bridging generational gaps and underscoring the value of different perspectives.

A clever, multi-generational comedy, My Old Ass has an appeal that resonates across ages, exploring the humor and poignancy of coming of age, no matter one’s stage in life.

My Old Ass is rated R for language, drug use, nudity, and sexual material.

Tickets are available at the Salina Art Center Cinema, with sponsorship from Wedel Financial, Sydney, and Morrie Soderberg.
