This week, our Salina Post Game of the Week takes us to Ellsworth, KS for an all-NCAA clash between two of the league’s best, as the Ellsworth Bearcats look to keep their title hopes alive against the Beloit Trojans.

Ellsworth comes into this contest at 5-1, fresh off their first and only loss at the hands of the Halstead Dragons, while Beloit enters at 4-2 having knocked off Minneapolis confidently last week.

Both teams are still in the hunt for a league title, but Beloit holds one league loss to Southeast of Saline already, leaving the league’s best chance to unseat SES in the hands of the Bearcats.

Beloit took a big step forward in the passing game last week as quarterback Jackson Weston tossed three touchdowns to only one interception in a win over Minneapolis.

With an improved air attack, Beloit was able to rumble on the ground with Joel Rexroat, who is fast approaching 1,000 yards rushing on the season.

That 1,000-yard mark has already been obliterated by Ellsworth senior tailback Landin Johnson, who has toted the rock 128 times for 1,236 yards and 14 touchdowns, averaging over nine yards per carry through six games.

Both teams love to keep the ball on the ground and keep the number of total possessions low, setting up what could be a quick, low-scoring game on Friday night.

NCAA powers clash in Ellsworth as Trojans visit Bearcats

John Betterson enjoys watching Kansas Wesleyan's athletic teams compete.

Doesn't matter what the sport or team is - men or women, varsity or developmental, fall, winter or spring. He's typically in the stands cheering on the Coyotes.

"I just enjoy going and watching them, seeing their performance and seeing them improve," he said. "It's just a lot of fun to go and watch them play and then see (the athletes) afterward and talk with them."

Because of his longtime support, Betterson has been named the 2024 recipient of the Gerald Lilly Award. Lilly was a fervent supporter of KWU and attended games from 1948 until he passed away in 2016.

"He was always there, but he had either been to a K-State game or was going to it," he said. "He would go to Southeast (of Saline) football - he went to just about everything."

Betterson, a Salina native, received a degree in Business from KWU in 1969, later attended Marymount and worked for American Electric for 31 years before retiring.

He compiled game statistics for hall of fame basketball coach Ken Cochran while at Marymount, then tracked basketball and football stats for KWU coaches Jerry Jones and Brad Jenkins. He also worked 32 years at the Salina Journal taking high school game statistics over the phone in the fall and winter.

While he never lost touch with Wesleyan after graduating, Betterson's superfan status took flight in 2014 when his grandnephew Matt Betterson signed to play football for KWU.

"He came in as the No. 7 quarterback," John said. "He was a little bit discouraged, but he had a good time while he was here and was a good student."

Matt Betterson left after one semester but John was hooked.

"I started following him (on social media) and through him, I ran into all these parents and kids," he said. "I've always been a basketball fan, so I got into the basketball season with that."

His love for all things KWU quickly grew.

"It's just been a lot of fun, meeting parents and meeting the kids - I hate to call them kids because they're students, but to me they're kids," he said. "It's been just tremendous following them. Some of them I still follow and see. They come back for class reunions and stuff like that.

"I was looking at the (Jerry Jones Athletic) Hall of Fame photos the other day, and I'd venture to say that I probably personally know about half the people on that board."

If KWU has a team, Betterson has seen it play.

"The only sport that I have not seen is the throwing events in track and field," he said. "I saw a bowling match during the COVID year when I was probably the only non-school representative who was there. I've seen cheer and dance; I've seen virtually everything."

Betterson said receiving the Gerald Lilly Award is special.

The high-powered Southeast of Saline offense may have put up their usual numbers on Friday night with 448 yards of total and scoring in the mid 30s, but the defense truly shined, as the Trojans ousted Hillsboro by a score of 36-8.&nbsp;

With this result, Southeast remains perfect at 6-0 while Hillsboro falls to 2-4.

The stingy, purple unit held Hillsboro to just 116 yards of total offense, holding them 3-13 on third-down conversions, while Drew Weller claimed two fumble recoveries and Tucker Thaxton grabbed an interception.

Things weren’t always pretty for the SES offense, with three turnovers of their own, but Amarion Holub had another stellar night as he completed the hat trick, scoring three rushing touchdowns, gaining 107 yards on 18 carries, and hauling in a reception for 15 yards.

“I’m going to give hats off to Hillsboro,” SES head coach Mitch Gebhardt said. “Their kids played their butts off. I thought we were better in the second half. Our&nbsp;kids played physically on the defensive side.”

Gannon Jacobson led the SES offense with 124 rushing yards on 15 carries, while Kanyon Douglas hauled in 4 receptions for 90 yards and a touchdown,&nbsp;

On defense, Douglas and Watkins led the tackle chart with 10 tackles each.

Southeast will host Halstead next Friday as they remain unbeaten on the season&nbsp;and advance to 6-0 overall, and 2-0 in district play, while Hillsboro drops to 2-4 overall and will travel to Lyons.

Southeast defense comes up big in victory over Hillsboro

The Southeast of Saline Trojans continued their dominant march last week, lashing the Lyons Lions by a final score of 66-0.

With this win, the Trojans rolled to a perfect 5-0, setting up a crucial run to the finish line with three big district games to close out the regular season.

“I really felt like we did some good things offensively and defensively,” SES head coach Mitch Gebhardt said. “Our JV kids put together a really good drive and everybody in pads got to play. We feel confident and these games are important but we’re still focused on going 1-0 every single week.”

To continue their run of 1-0 every week, Southeast will have to slay another Trojan foe in the form of 2-3 Hillsboro.

The Maroon Trojans have played a brutal schedule, with their three losses coming at the hands of teams with a combined record of 14-1.

“Hillsboro always has athletes and that’s a scary proposition,” Gebhardt said. “They’ve got big guys up front, they have a seasoned offensive line and they have a good mix of athletes.”

This will also be a big game for District 6, which sees Southeast (2-0), and Ellsworth (3-0) each looking to put Hillsboro behind them in the standings.

SES will need another strong performance to pick up a big win on the road tonight, but with improvement in mind, Southeast will be ready to go on the campus of Tabor College tonight.

“Every monday when we watch film we see mistakes and we want to continue to focus on fixing those,” he said. “Every week presents a different challenge but we want to continue to get better.”

SES travels to Hillsboro for bonus Trojan War

Southeast of Saline handled their business and then some on Friday night, handing the Lyons Lions a 66-0 beatdown to celebrate homecoming in style.

With this win, the Trojans move to 5-0 on the year and 1-0 in district play, while Lyons falls to 1-4/0-2.

As expected, Southeast put on a show on both sides of the ball, racking up 542 yards of total offense, and scoring 60 of their 66 points in the first half.

Gannon Jacobson started the show with a 7-yard touchdown pass to Tucker Thaxton and a 14-yard touchdown run, bookending a 5-yard Amarion Holub score.

In the second quarter, Jacobson would four more touchdowns, including two through the air to Kaden Barragen and Kanyon Douglas, and two long runs of 44 and 64.

Up 60-0 at the half, SES emptied out its bench, giving their second and third stringers an opportunity in this varsity bout.

LaVone Hopkins capitalized on his chance, punching in the day's final score on a 4-yard rush from the red zone.

Gannon Jacobson was the star of the show, completing 5-13 passes for 125 yards and three touchdowns and rattling off 207 more yards and three additional scores on the ground.

Southeast will travel to Hillsboro (2-3) next week for a bonus Trojan War, while Lyons returns home to face 0-5 Nickerson.

Trojans tame Lions in 66-0 beatdown

Salina and much of Kansas continue to face persistent drought conditions. With winter just around the corner, National Weather Service (NWS) Meteorologist James Cuellar explained that the ongoing transition to La Niña is likely to bring drier-than-normal conditions through the fall, winter, and even early spring.

"There's a couple of other climate oscillations that are also occurring out there in the Pacific Ocean, like sea surface temperature variability out there that can influence weather here," Cuellar said. "Not just La Nina, but there's also a couple of others, and pretty much they all point to a drier than normal fall, winter and probably early spring for much, much of the central portions of the country."

According to the NWS, La Niña is likely to develop between September and November 2024, with a 71% chance, and continue through January to March 2025. 

In August 2024, conditions in the Pacific Ocean remained neutral, with sea surface temperatures close to average. Wind patterns and temperature measurements suggest that La Niña is forming, but it is expected to be weak and short-lived.

Current forecasts, based on models, predict this La Niña will be less intense, meaning it may not have the typical strong winter effects. However, it could still influence seasonal weather predictions.

Cuellar said precipitation similar to the marginal rain Kansas received in September 2024 is to be expected sparsely throughout the fall.&nbsp;

"We could get some rain events here and there, kind of similar to what we got in the middle of September. Right now things don't particularly look great in terms of eroding our drought conditions," Cuellar said.

Salina is currently experiencing an eight-inch precipitation deficit for the year, and drought conditions are expected to worsen. The effects of the drought can also be seen in extreme temperature swings.

"Typically, whenever it's drier, it's a lot easier to get pretty big temperature swings," Cuellar said. "If we were to have a little more moisture in the ground, it would be a lot more difficult for us to dry out during the day.&nbsp;

September temperatures were mostly above average across central, south-central, and southeast Kansas. Despite this, many recorded their coolest September since 2020.&nbsp;Wichita experienced both a record high of 102 degrees and much cooler temperatures dropping to 52 degrees on September 25.

"In 2021 we had a somewhat wet beginning of the summer and then it fell off in the wintertime. Then in 2022 we actually got really, really wet spring, which was one of the wettest Mays on record, but then the tap immediately shut off again," Cuellar said. "And ever since the summer of 2022 we just really haven't seen precipitation. Even if we do have above-average precipitation month, it just hasn't been nearly enough to make up the deficits that we build-up."

While drought conditions have not yet escalated the risk of wildfires in the area, Cuellar cautioned that an early freeze followed by a return to warm, dry conditions could increase fire weather potential later in the season. For now, the vegetation has retained enough moisture to prevent significant wildfire risk.

 </figure>"In 2021 we had a somewhat wet beginning of the summer and then it fell off in the wintertime. Then in 2022 we actually got really, really wet spring, which was one of the wettest Mays on record, but then the tap immediately shut off again," Cuellar said. "And ever since the summer of 2022 we just really haven't seen precipitation. Even if we do have above-average precipitation month, it just hasn't been nearly enough to make up the deficits that we build-up."While drought conditions have not yet escalated the risk of wildfires in the area, Cuellar cautioned that an early freeze followed by a return to warm, dry conditions could increase fire weather potential later in the season. For now, the vegetation has retained enough moisture to prevent significant wildfire risk.

“I thought our defense played outstanding at Kingman,” SES head coach Mitch Gebhardt said. “They do a good job with a lot of things offensively but our kids were in the right spots and did a really good job.”

These first four weeks have provided true tests for the Trojans, who now hold wins over 3-1 Beloit and 2-2 Clay Center and Kingman, whose only losses came at the hands of SES and other state powers in 4-0 Louisburg and the defending 3A state champs in Cheney.

“The growth with our kids started in week one with Minneapolis and in the last three weeks they’ve taken big steps forward,” Gebhardt said. “We’re playing physical and you have to in games like that.”

First up in district play for Southeast (4-0) is Lyons (1-3), which has struggled mightily in recent years but is improving with a win already this season.

While the Lions don’t pose an immediate threat to SES, having lost in each of the last two years by a combined score of 154-7, the Trojans are keeping their focus within, and remain committed to playing better each and every week.

“We still have things we need to improve,” he said. “We need to continue to play team defense and we still need to watch film and make fewer mistakes on offense. If we can do that I think we’ll be in good shape.”

Despite being heavy favorites for their homecoming contest, Southeast still needs to take care of business if they want to stake their spot at the top of district 6.

&nbsp;“Every game is important and every district game is even more important,” Gebhardt said. “Everyone else is continuing to work and get better and we have to do the same as we continue to play hard and physical. At the end of the day this a league game, it’s a district game and we need to continue to play at a high level.”

With the high school football season reaching the halfway point, this Friday will be a busy one for all 11 schools in our area when week five kicks off tonight.

In Class 5A Salina Central will travel to take on Newton while South battles Valley Center. From the NCKL Abilene will clash with Marysville while Chapman faces Concordia. In the NCAA Southeast of Saline hosts Lyons for homecoming, Ellsworth squares off with Hillsboro, Sacred Heart travels to Sedgwick and Minneapolis hosts Halstead, and finally in Class 1A Bennington is at Valley Heights, and Ell-Saline plays host to Solomon.

The Southeast of Saline defense set the tone early Friday in their 40-6 victory over the Kingman Eagles to start District play, tallying an interception, a safety, and 11 tackles for loss.&nbsp;

SES held a powerful Kingman offense to just 106 total yards.&nbsp;&nbsp;

“[Kingman] does a good job with their quarterback power run game, and I felt like our kids did a darn good job with it,” SES head coach Mitch Gebhardt said. “I thought we played a physical football game, and I think we’ve been good about that, but in the open field, we were more physical tonight.”

Offensively, Southeast amassed 275 yards of total offense with 167 rushing and 108 yards passing.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Gannon Jacobson led the Trojans in rushing with 79 yards and a touchdown on 8 carries, followed by Amarion Holub with 76 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Jacobson also passed for 3 touchdowns, including two to Tucker Thaxton and one to Holub.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Bryson Lippold led the Trojan defense with 8 solo tackles and 3 assists, while Deacon Baier and Kanyon Douglas each totaled 6 solos and 2 assists.&nbsp;

Douglas also added another interception to his resume, while Baier added a blocked PAT to his.

The Trojans, now 4-0 (1-0 in District), will host Lyons for homecoming next Friday, while Kingman falls to 2-2 and will host Douglass.

Trojan defense paves the way for win over Kingman

On Friday The Kansas City Royals trimmed their magic number to two with a 7-4 victory over the Washington Nationals

Pinch hitter Adam Frazier’s one-out, line drive base hit to left field in the top of the ninth drove in two runs, breaking a 4-4 tie and guiding the Royals to their third straight win following a seven-game losing streak.

To add to the Royals’ big day, the Minnesota Twins fell 8-6 to the Marlins in 13 innings giving both Detroit, and Kansas City a 3-game lead in the AL Wild Card with just 3 games left to go.

A win for the Royals or a loss for the Twins and Mariners will put KC through to the playoffs for the first time since 2015, KC start’s its final series of the season in Atlanta tonight at 6:20

Southeast of Saline is off to a hot start to the 2024 campaign, and after winning the Trojan War for a seventh straight season, the Trojans now fix their gaze on a perennial power and postseason rival in Kingman.

The Eagles come into this contest at 2-1, their only loss to the defending 3A state champs in Cheney, while the Trojans enter at 3-0 with two victories over state powers.

Last week’s win over Beloit proved just how tough SES is, after losing both of their top offensive weapons in Grady Gebhardt and Tucker Thaxton for stretches of the game.

“Seeing our guys stick with it and understand what we do has been such a good thing for us,” SES head coach Mitch Gebhardt said. “Everybody is working together and that’s a huge thing with this group. They’re resilient, they focus on the next play and we’ve had a lot of different guys make big plays for us.”

Southeast will need that resilience again this week against a Kingman team it’s met in each of the last two postsesaons.

The Eagles eliminated SES 28-22 in the 2022 semifinals, but the Trojans got their revenge with a 36-28 win in last year’s quarterfinals, setting up Friday night’s rubber match.

“Kingman is disciplined and their coaching staff does such a great job,” Gebhardt said. “Their kids are in the right spots, they’re always physical and those kids are gonna work hard for four quarters. We’ve had some great battles with them and this is a big game for us.”

This also marks the final game in a brutal early-season stretch that saw Southeast seek out opponents like Clay Center and Beloit for their early-season schedule.

“Playing good teams early like this is big, and it lets you learn who you are,” he said. “Mistakes are compounded in games like this but in our film sessions we can really see what might come back and haunt us later, it makes us better.”

Up against a perennial power, in enemy territory, it will take another strong effort for the Trojans to walk away with a win, but the team is up to the task.

“We have to take care of the football; turnovers are big in a game like this,” he said. “We have to stay together and know our role on defense, and we have to continue to improve on special teams.”

On Thursday Five Kansas City relievers pitched 6 2/3 innings of two-hit ball after starter Michael Lorenzen's early exit, Robbie Grossman hit a two-run double, and the Royals held for a 3-0 win over the Washington Nationals.

Michael Massey singled in a run off DJ Herz (4-9) to help lift the Royals to a second-straight shutout victory after a season-high-tying seven-game losing streak.

Kansas City and Detroit are both 84-74 but the Royals hold the head-to-head tiebreaker advantage over the Tigers for the second wild-card spot. Both teams are still 2 games ahead of the Twins with four games left to play.

More locally Southeast of Saline swept their home cross country meet on Tuesday, with the boys dominating by 23 points over Berean Academy and the girls winning by 15 points over Smoky Valley.

Piper Brown led the way for the girls with a time of 20:42.47 while Brayden Walker took his fourth-straight race win with a time of 16:33.96.

And finally the Kansas State men’s basketball team will host a showcase on Saturday, October 5 beginning at 4 p.m., CT at the Dodge City Civic Center in Dodge City

910 KINA Sports Headlines — September 26

The Southeast of Saline boys and girls each won their respective divisions in the annual SES Invitational held on Tuesday.

The boys dominated by a margin of 26-49 over second-place finisher Berean Academy, while the girls won by a score of 63-78 over runner-up Smoky Valley.

The Lady Trojans placed five runners in the top twenty spots.&nbsp; 

Piper Brown (20:42.57) was the first Lady Trojan to cross the finish line, followed by Anna Jackson (20:54.33) in 7th place, with Cali Augustine (12th place, 21:14.82), Ava McGraw (14th, 21:30.05), and Regan Duran (20th, 21:46.91) rounding out the top twenty.

For the boys, it was Brayden Walker extending his gold medal streak to 4 as he won with a time of 16:33.96. 

Jacob Bircher brought home the silver medal, crossing the finish line at the 16:42.82 mark. 

The Trojans placed three more runners in the top ten with Jacob Tonne (4th, 17:08.50), Zachary Carlin (9th, 17:51.26), and Cole Frankin (10th, 17:56.83).

Southeast will travel to Halstead on Thursday, October 3rd, for their next meet.

 </figure>The Lady Trojans placed five runners in the top twenty spots.&nbsp; Piper Brown (20:42.57) was the first Lady Trojan to cross the finish line, followed by Anna Jackson (20:54.33) in 7th place, with Cali Augustine (12th place, 21:14.82), Ava McGraw (14th, 21:30.05), and Regan Duran (20th, 21:46.91) rounding out the top twenty.For the boys, it was Brayden Walker extending his gold medal streak to 4 as he won with a time of 16:33.96. Jacob Bircher brought home the silver medal, crossing the finish line at the 16:42.82 mark. The Trojans placed three more runners in the top ten with Jacob Tonne (4th, 17:08.50), Zachary Carlin (9th, 17:51.26), and Cole Frankin (10th, 17:56.83).Southeast will travel to Halstead on Thursday, October 3rd, for their next meet.

SES Sweeps home cross country meet

Regardless of the records, the Trojan War between Southeast of Saline and Beloit game is one of the season's most anticipated games.&nbsp; 

Southeast had won the last six meetings in this rivalry, and after last night, you can make it seven in a row for the purple Trojans, as they handed Beloit their first loss of the season by a score of 32-6.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

After an early drive came to a halt on the Southeast 9-yard line in the, Beloit broke the scoreless tie on a 72-yard run by Joel Rexroat to go up 6-0.&nbsp; 

Southeast answered back by reeling off 24 straight points in a matter of 3 minutes and 24 seconds.&nbsp; 

It started with a 5-yard pass from Gannon Jacobson to Evan Watkins that put Southeast up 8-6.&nbsp; 

Following a pooched kickoff recovery, Jacobson and Tucker Thaxton connected for two more Southeast touchdowns before halftime.

The first of those scores came from 30 yards out and second one, from the 10-yard line, was set up by a Kanyon Douglas interception.&nbsp; 

Amarion Holub added an insurance score for Southeast on a 23-yard scamper to make the score 32-6 late.

Jacobson led the Southeast offense completing 13 of 18 passes for 165 yards and 3 touchdowns and rushing for 51 yards on 11 carries.&nbsp; 

Thaxton led all receivers with 65 yards and 2 touchdowns on 4 catches.&nbsp; 

Rexroat led the Beloit rushers with 199 yards on 24 carries.

Southeast, now 3-0, will travel to Kingman next week, while Beloit drops to 2-1 and will travel to Phillipsburg.

Southeast uses big second quarter to put away Beloit in Trojan War

After knocking off a perennial power in Clay Center on Friday night, the Southeast of Saline Trojans will find themselves in an early battle for league supremacy when they host Beloit for the Trojan War.

Beloit (2-0), has rolled through their first two opponents of the season decimating Lyons 52-6 and Concordia 28-0 while SES (2-0) holds wins over Minneapolis and Clay Center.

“That Clay Center game was a fun one to be a part of,” SES head coach Mitch Gebhardt said. “I really felt like both teams played their butts off. It was as close to a playoff atmosphere as you could get in week two and it really did come down to a few plays, we were fortunate to make one more play than they did.”

Now, Southeast will have to go toe to toe with one of three remaining unbeatens in the NCAA, as the two Trojan teams join Ellsworth at the early 2-0 summit.

For years, the NCAA ran through Beloit, but for the better part of the last decade, those fortunes have changed, with Southeast winning each of the last six meetings between the two.

“Beloit is always a big game for us, it always has been,” Gebhardt said. “They’ve been coached well since I’ve been here and their kids always play hard and have good size. They present a lot of challenges and they know how to run power football. If we’re not tough, Beloit’s definitely gonna beat us.”

Despite beating one of the best teams in Class 3A last week, SES continues to seek steady improvement and will look to take another step forward this week.

“Defensively, we can still play better as a group and we’ll continue to work on that,” he said. “Offensively we need to make sure we’re making our reads and getting the right guys in the right spots. We still have a lot of kids who have only played in two varsity football games and I think we’re going to continue to get better.”

Southeast will also need to find an answer for a Beloit unit that has outscored its first two opponents 80-6 to open their season.

“Their size always presents problems,” Gebhardt said. “They’re always big and they really fly around and make tackles on defense. We need to play fast this week whether that’s making a run or running down the football. We need to play as a team on defense and pick up first downs to keep our offense on the field.”

Kickoff is set for 7 P.M. with pregame coverage on Salina Post and KINA at 6:40, Devin Hanney and Russ Cossell will have the call.

Undefeateds clash in Beloit as SES travels for Trojan War

The KSHSAA Board of Directors voted Wednesday to allow high school basketball teams to play 23 games during the regular season starting with the 2025-26 season.

A proposal initiated by the Kansas Coaches Association and advanced to the Board of Directors by the KSHSAA Executive Board, changes the allowable games a student may participate in from 20 to 23, not counting the postseason. The item was passed with a 36-25 vote.

Other passed measures allow students to participate in 32 baseball and softball games throughout the course of a season, and allow tennis athletes to participate in one outside competition during the school season.

Thursday also saw the appointment of Richard Konzem as executive director of the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame, announced by chairman Jim Dunning

Konzem has a long history with the hall of fame, recently serving on the board of directors for the second time. His first stint was 1999-2007, during which time he held the office of vice-president from 2003-05.

910 KINA Sports Headlines — September 20

Southeast of Saline, ranked #1 in Class 2A by the KFBCA, traveled to Clay Center to take on the Tigers (3A) in an early season matchup between two heavyweights.&nbsp;

 </figure>Clay Center struck first on a 4-yard pass from Cole Pladson to Jace Welle to claim the game’s first lead at 7-0.&nbsp;&nbsp;The Trojans answered right back on a 13 play 58-yard drive capped off by a 10-yard touchdown pass from Gannon Jacobson to Tucker Thaxton, but failed the 2-point try.Not to be outdone, Clay Center took their next drive to paydirt, scoring on a 1-yard Weston Hammond run to take the 14-6 lead.&nbsp;&nbsp;Southeast followed up with an 18-yard Jacobson to Thaxton touchdown pass, this time converting the 2-point try to tie the game at 14 a piece.&nbsp;After that it was time for the defenses to shine as neither team scored again until the 1:06 mark of the third quarter when Jacobson and Thaxton connected for a third time on a 9 yard pass.&nbsp;On their third two-point attempt, Jacobson ran to the right pylon to give the Trojans first lead at 22-14.&nbsp;&nbsp;With 2:40 left in the game, the Tigers answered on a 2-yard run from Cole Pladson to make the score 24-22, but the Trojan defense came up big and stopped the 2-point attempt to secure the Southeast victory.Southeast had a total of 383 yards with Grady Gebhardt leading the rushing attack with 161 yards on 33 carries. Meanwhile, Thaxton led all receivers with 11 catches for 119 yards and 3 touchdowns, and Jacobson completed 19 of 26 passes for 185 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 1 interception.Next week, Southeast will host 2-0 Beloit while Clay Center will travel to Louisburg to take on the 2-0 Wildcats.
