Saline County Clerk Jamie Doss would like to remind residents that Tuesday, Oct. 15, is the last day to register to vote for the November General Election.

If you have changed your name or address, a new voter registration with the updated information will need to be completed at the County Clerk’s office or online at <a href="http://voteks.gov">voteks.gov</a>

If you would like an advance mail ballot, contact the Saline County Clerk's office at (785) 309-5820&nbsp; to have an application mailed to you, &nbsp;fill out an application online at&nbsp;<a href="https://www.sos.ks.gov/forms/elections/AV1.pdf">AV1.pdf (ksvotes.gov)</a>&nbsp;or stop by the clerk's office at 300 W. Ash Street.

Advance mail ballots will be mailed on Oct. 16. The last day to request an advance mail ballot is Oct. 29. Advance mail ballots can be returned by mail, dropped off at the clerk's office at 300 W. Ash Street, or use the ballot drop box, which is conveniently located at the Salina City-County Building.&nbsp;

Early voting begins on October 21.&nbsp; To vote by mail you must complete an Application for&nbsp;<a href="https://www.salinecountyks.gov/media/Election%20Office/election/av1.pdf">Advance Ballot by Mail (PDF format)</a>&nbsp;by printing it out or go to&nbsp;<a href="https://v3.ksvotes.org/" target="_blank">www.ksvotes.org</a>&nbsp;to fill out a form online. Your completed application must be received at the Election Office by the Tuesday prior to the election (K.S.A. 25-1122(f)). Submit your application early to avoid delays!

2024 Election: Deadline to register to vote quickly approaching

The Most Runner-Friendly Marathon in Kansas will be held on November 2 in downtown Salina. With one month until The Salina Crossroads Marathon, there are 4,726 runners registered from all 50 states and runners from Australia, Canada, Denmark, Mexico, Switzerland, and The United Kingdom. 

The Salina Crossroads Marathon is the largest marathon event in Kansas this year. There are more than 2,200 runners registered from outside the state of Kansas and nearly 4,200 from outside of Salina.&nbsp;

This year the Salina Crossroads Marathon will need more than 300 volunteers. Volunteers can sign up for the Salina Crossroads Marathon at <a href="https://salinacrossroadsmarathon.volunteerlocal.com/volunteer/?id=81121" target="_blank">https://salinacrossroadsmarathon.volunteerlocal.com/volunteer/?id=81121</a>.

Volunteer needs include course monitors, finish line and festival, and packet pickup. Course Monitors will ensure safety along the run course by assisting traffic across intersections, providing pedestrians/runners with course direction, and encouraging participants along the course.

 Festival volunteers will be placed in various areas around the finish line area and assist with the removal of timing chips, handing out participant finisher medals, distributing participant food/beverage items, and cleaning &amp; maintaining a green event.

There are shifts on Friday, November 1 from 10:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. and Saturday morning November 2 starting at 6:00 a.m. for packet pickup that includes assigning runners their bib number and getting them their race shirt. 

"Volunteers are what separate the very best marathons from other races. We were blown away by both the number of individuals who volunteered for last year's race as well as their passion and commitment to ensuring that every runner had an amazing experience. We often highlight the number of participants and the economic impact that races have, but the volunteerism aspect is equally important to local communities like Salina." said Co-Race Director-Daniel Craig.&nbsp;

Funding from local organizations including Vortex Company, the Marathon Presenting Sponsor, and Schwan’s Company, the Half Marathon Presenting Sponsor, as well as local foundations and statewide organizations allows the Salina Crossroads Marathon to put on one of the premier marathon events in the Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Nebraska, and Iowa region. 

This year race organizers are making lots of great changes including having a 100% paved course, adding additional fun signs for post-race photos, and having a PR bell that runners who run their fastest time can ring. One thing that will not change is the commitment to being a "Gold Standard" race by providing 100% of the race entry fees back to Saline County Youth Sports. 

Salina Crossroads Marathon provides 100% of the race entry fees to five local youth sports organizations: Salina Burn Track and Field Club, Salina Family YMCA, Kansas Youth Sports, Salina Area Youth Sportsmanship Initiative, and the School Marathon Foundation. The Richmond Marathon (4.7) and Salina Crossroads Marathon (4.7) are the only two November marathons featured by RaceRaves with at least ten reviews that received a score of 4.7 or higher. 

Team Take Down, an African American running club with members in all fifty states as well as other countries, will gather for their annual MeetUp event at the marathon in Salina. Team Take Down currently has 195 runners registered and additional large teams are coming from Kansas City Missouri, Tulsa Oklahoma, and Florida.

Salina Crossroads Marathon closes in on 5,000 registered runners — volunteers needed

The City of Salina announced this afternoon that a petition to repeal sections of the Salina City Code related to Breed Specific Regulations fell short of the required number of valid signatures needed for consideration.

On Monday, September 23, 2024, the City received a referendum petition that would require the Governing Body to either pass an ordinance to repeal sections of the Salina City Code related to Breed Specific Regulations or call for a special election for voter consideration of the ordinance. 

For the petition to be valid, the Saline County Election Officer must validate the signatures in accordance with K.S.A. 25-3601. The petition was delivered to the Saline County Election Officer on Tuesday, September 24, 2024.

According to K.S.A. 12-3013, the petition would need to be signed by electors equal to 25% of those who voted in the preceding regular City election, requiring 1,391 signatures in this instance.

 On Monday, September 30, 2024, the Saline County Election Officer certified that the required number of signatures was not met. Of the 1,814 signatures submitted, only 1,369 were accepted, with 445 signatures being rejected for reasons including unregistered voters, mismatched names or signatures, canceled voter registrations, and incorrect districts. This left the petition 22 signatures short of the required number.

Under K.S.A. 25-3602, the petitioner is not permitted to submit additional signatures to make up the shortfall. Therefore, the petition will not move forward, and the ordinance related to Breed Specific Regulations will remain in place.

In a joint statement, Debrah Corrales and Tyler Sartain, both advocates against the ban, said they would not give up their efforts.

“&nbsp;While we are disheartened by the shortage of 22 signatures we don’t plan on giving up. We will be looking at all options regarding getting BSL repealed in Salina.&nbsp; There were 445 names that were removed due to either not being registered to vote, outside of the voting district, or not legible to read. We will be asking for recount and hopefully we can see if they’d be willing to do it. For the citizens we need you to email the city commission and demand a special election vote it’s the right thing to do. The citizens want this issue resolved and there’s five people standing in your way of getting the ban lifted.&nbsp; The commission believes that if they lift the ban they would be held responsible if this breed of dog hurts someone which they cannot be held liable in any way. If the commission stays silent and does not act to put this up for a public vote they are complacent in infringing on your rights, they’re ok with the city taking your dogs away, and fine with them being euthanized. As long as this law stands your rights are being infringed upon and your dog’s lives are in danger. There have been 56 BSL repeals in Kansas due to this law not working. Our animal shelter cannot house all these dogs for long and we fear that euthanasia will make a comeback if this law isn’t lifted.

If the commission stays silent and does not act to put this up for a public vote they are complacent in infringing on your rights, they’re ok with the city taking your dogs away, and fine with them being euthanized. As long as this law stands your rights are being infringed upon and your dog’s lives are in danger. There have been 56 BSL repeals in Kansas due to this law not working. Our animal shelter cannot house all these dogs for long and we fear that euthanasia will make a comeback if this law isn’t lifted. It’s up to you the citizens to act and help these dogs. Petition to repeal Salina's breed-specific regulations falls short on valid signatures

The Smoky Hill Museum Street Fair is set to bring Old West excitement to downtown Salina on Saturday, September 28. The event, held at the Smoky Hill Museum located at 211 W. Iron Avenue, offers a full day of family-friendly activities, entertainment, and food—all for free.

🎥Smoky Hill Museum Street Fair returns with Old West Fun

On Tuesday, Sept. 24, Salina South Middle School administration and officers with the Salina Police Department (SPD) responded to a threat made by a student against the school. In a message to families, Principal Dustin Dooley confirmed that both the school and the police department acted swiftly to address the situation.

The incident took place during the fourth period, around the noon hour, and involved a 13-year-old male student who made threatening remarks to other students. 

According to SPD Cpt. David Villanueva, the student told classmates not to come to school the next day because there would be a shooting. These comments were corroborated through an investigation by the school's resource officer and staff, who spoke to multiple students. 

As a result, the student was arrested and taken to the juvenile detention facility in Junction City on charges of criminal threat. 

SPD did not release the name of the suspect, who is a minor, in accordance with&nbsp;<a href="https://www.justice.gov/jm/jm-9-8000-juveniles">18 U.S. Code § 5038.</a>

Villanueva emphasized the seriousness with which SPD addresses these types of threats.

 "The school alerted us immediately, and we were able to investigate and ensure the safety of the school," Villanueva said. He also noted the strong cooperation between USD 305 administration and SPD throughout the investigation. 

"From the principal to the staff of the district, everyone worked together to address this threat," Villanueva said.&nbsp;

The school district follows strict protocols for reporting any crimes that occur on school grounds, especially those involving serious violent threats. Captain Villanueva added that while schools typically handle lower-level offenses internally, SPD is called in for any felony or violent crime threats to ensure a thorough criminal investigation.

In his message to families, South Middle School Principal Dooley urged parents to talk to their students about the gravity of making any kind of threatening statements and to encourage them to speak to a trusted adult if they see or hear something concerning.

 "It takes all of us to keep our school safe," Dooley said.

UPDATED: 13-year-old Salina South Middle School student arrested for alleged criminal threat

At its recent study session meeting, the Salina City Commission received an update on <a href="http://weblink.salina.org/WebLink/DocView.aspx?id=547690&amp;dbid=0&amp;repo=Salina">proposed upgrades</a> to Jerry Ivey Memorial Park. Jeff Hammond, Director of Parks and Recreation, and&nbsp;Jim Schuessler from George Butler Associates, based in Lenexa, presented preliminary designs for the renovations, including a new splash pad, an enhanced water wall, and updates to the park's memorial and landscaping.

Hammond explained that after the demolition of the Jerry Ivey pond, staff conducted community surveys to determine what should replace it.&nbsp;

"Several design preferences of the water feature indicated a preference for a more natural concept of a water feature," Hammond said. "A feature with flowing water and the use of natural stone."

Earlier this year, damage was discovered to the splash pad's plumbing and the City Commission approved design services for upgrades, including the splash pad, water feature, memorial and site improvements.

The proposed new design includes a 30-foot water wall with an eight-foot-wide waterfall, various spray features within the new splash pad and upgraded sidewalks and landscaping throughout the park.

Commissioner Jerry Ivey Jr., the son of the late patrolman Jerry Ivey, said although his family is deeply connected to memorializing the park's namesake, he hoped other commissioners wouldn't simply defer to his judgment.&nbsp;

"I want everyone up here [commissioners] to know that this isn't my decision alone," Ivey said. "Obviously everyone's looking at me for obvious reasons, but I also want to hear the input of everyone else up here."

The project’s estimated cost is $949,200, which includes $85,000 for general demolition, $84,200 for the water wall and $97,000 for memorial upgrades. Pumps and filtration systems for the water features alone are projected to cost $290,000.

Commissioners raised concerns about the scale of the water wall and asked for more detailed renderings. Commissioners also questioned whether the current rendering, which shows the memorial having the backdrop of the high school, would look better if the backdrop were looking on at the rest of the park.&nbsp;

"My brother and I had this conversation this weekend, but I think the park itself is the memorial. It's the Memorial Park, and this [the memorial plaza to Jerry Ivey] is just a small part that kind of says why," Ivey said. "If it came down to dollars and cents, we would rather see the money put towards making the amenities better, the spray grounds better, or the or, you know, those kind of features better, versus making this big, elaborate memorial here."

Hammond said the project is expected to be funded from the park's maintenance budget.

"There is funding approved for this year to cover a portion of the cost," Hammond said. "The remaining portions would come out of that fund balance of park maintenance. That's my tentative plan to fund this was coming solely from park maintenance, but one from an approved project. The approved project was $650,000 for the water feature portion. But then any remaining dollars would come from the park maintenance fund. The fund balance of the park maintenance fund, which I think currently at about $1.8 million."

Annual operational costs for the new features are estimated at $3,500-$5,000, in addition to weekly staff hours during the park’s operational season.

While no final decisions were made, the city aims to complete the upgrades by May 2025, pending further approval and the completion of the bidding process.

 Staff and Schuessler said they would return with refined plans and additional visuals for commissioners at a later date.&nbsp;

Salina City Commission reviews proposed upgrades for Jerry Ivey Memorial Park

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has rescinded a boil water advisory for Sundowner West Mobile Home Park - public water supply system located in Saline County. KDHE officials issued the advisory because of a broken water line resulting in low pressure in the distribution system. Failure to maintain adequate pressure may put the system at risk for bacterial contamination.

Public water suppliers in Kansas take all measures necessary to notify customers quickly after a system failure or shutdown. Regardless of whether it’s the supplier or KDHE that announces a boil water advisory, KDHE will issue the rescind order following testing at a certified laboratory. &nbsp;

Laboratory testing samples collected from the Sundowner West Mobile Home Park indicated no evidence of bacteriological contamination and all other conditions that placed the system at risk of contamination are deemed by KDHE officials to be resolved.   &nbsp;

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has issued a Boil Water Advisory for the&nbsp;Sundowner&nbsp;West Mobile Home Park public water supply system located in Saline County.&nbsp;

According to a release from the KDHE customers should observe the following precautions until further notice:

Boil water for one minute prior to drinking or food preparation or use bottled water.

Dispose of ice cubes and do not use ice from a household automatic icemaker.

If your tap water appears dirty, flush the water lines by letting the water run until it clears.

Disinfect dishes and other food contact surfaces by immersion for at least one minute in clean tap water that contains one teaspoon of unscented household bleach per gallon of water.

Water used for bathing does not generally need to be boiled. Supervision of children is necessary while bathing so that water is not ingested. Persons with cuts or severe rashes may wish to consult their physicians.

According to Sundowner residents, Waterwise Enterprises has been sending out updates to residents, not Scott Kolling who owns the water rights at Sundowner.

The advisory took effect on September 14 and will remain in effect until the conditions that placed the system at risk of bacterial contamination are resolved. KDHE officials issued the advisory because of water line break resulting in low pressure in the distribution system. Failure to maintain adequate pressure may put the system at risk for bacterial contamination.

Sundowner was placed under a do-not-drink advisory back in Aug. for elevated manganese levels in the water.&nbsp;

Manganese is currently unregulated at the state level according to the KDHE, but federal health advisory limits do apply. 

Too much manganese can increase the risk of health problems, the KDHE said in its Aug. 29 release, particularly for infants under 6 months old. Infants are more at risk than older children and adults because their brains and bodies are quickly developing. Formula-fed infants get enough manganese from formula to meet their dietary needs. Infants exposed to manganese over 300 ug/L may experience learning or behavioral problems.

On Aug. 29 the KDHE advised residents to not boil or freeze the water. The release said the following, "Boiling, freezing, or letting water stand does not reduce manganese. Boiling can increase levels of manganese because manganese remains behind when the water evaporates."

Michelle Weis, Saline County Emergency Management director said The KDHE conducted water tests in late August which revealed manganese levels below health advisory limits, making it safe to boil.

Salina Post is in contact with residents at Sundowner and will update this story as new information becomes available.&nbsp;

Dispose of ice cubes and do not use ice from a household automatic icemaker.If your tap water appears dirty, flush the water lines by letting the water run until it clears.Disinfect dishes and other food contact surfaces by immersion for at least one minute in clean tap water that contains one teaspoon of unscented household bleach per gallon of water.Water used for bathing does not generally need to be boiled. Supervision of children is necessary while bathing so that water is not ingested. Persons with cuts or severe rashes may wish to consult their physicians.According to Sundowner residents, Waterwise Enterprises has been sending out updates to residents, not Scott Kolling who owns the water rights at Sundowner.The advisory took effect on September 14 and will remain in effect until the conditions that placed the system at risk of bacterial contamination are resolved. KDHE officials issued the advisory because of water line break resulting in low pressure in the distribution system. Failure to maintain adequate pressure may put the system at risk for bacterial contamination.Sundowner was placed under a do-not-drink advisory back in Aug. for elevated manganese levels in the water.&nbsp;Manganese is currently unregulated at the state level according to the KDHE, but federal health advisory limits do apply. Too much manganese can increase the risk of health problems, the KDHE said in its Aug. 29 release, particularly for infants under 6 months old. Infants are more at risk than older children and adults because their brains and bodies are quickly developing. Formula-fed infants get enough manganese from formula to meet their dietary needs. Infants exposed to manganese over 300 ug/L may experience learning or behavioral problems.On Aug. 29 the KDHE advised residents to not boil or freeze the water. The release said the following, "Boiling, freezing, or letting water stand does not reduce manganese. Boiling can increase levels of manganese because manganese remains behind when the water evaporates."Michelle Weis, Saline County Emergency Management director said The KDHE conducted water tests in late August which revealed manganese levels below health advisory limits, making it safe to boil.Salina Post is in contact with residents at Sundowner and will update this story as new information becomes available.&nbsp;

Boil Water Advisory Rescinded for Sundowner West Mobile Home Park, Saline County

Salina South High School’s annual homecoming parade is set to take place tonight, beginning at Equity Bank on Santa Fe Avenue at 6:30 p.m. The parade will head south on Santa Fe, then turn east onto Crawford Street, ending at the Salina Stadium.

Following the parade, a pep rally will begin at 7:00 p.m. where the homecoming king and queen candidates will be introduced. This year’s queen candidates are Tamia Cheeks, Bethany Hicklin, Kamryn Watts, Sadie Xaysongkham, and Macy Yost, while the king candidates are Erik Franco, Sean Iselin, Carson Wellbrock, Jace Humphrey, and Luke Matto.

Tamia Cheeks is the daughter of Dr. Brandon Jamal Cheeks and Dr. Ralita Cheeks. Throughout high school, she has participated in basketball, volleyball, track and field, student council, Kilt Krew, Relay for Life, Black Student Union, Paw Mart, and the Belonging Committee. Outside of school, she enjoys painting, arts and crafts, and babysitting. Tamia plans to major in graphic design with a minor in art and a second language and is considering pursuing a sport in college.

Salina Post proudly presents Flashback Friday in partnership with the&nbsp;<a target="_blank" href="https://www.smokyhillmuseum.org/">Smoky Hill Museum</a>. Enjoy a weekly tidbit of local history from the staff at Salina Post and the Smoky Hill Museum as we present "Salina-Flashback Fridays."&nbsp;

Built in 1911 the initial Saline County Courthouse eventually was replaced by the City-County Building in 1969.

In 1910, Saline County embarked on an ambitious project to replace its original courthouse, a limestone structure erected in 1870 at Ninth and Park Streets. Though the earlier building was once praised as "the best courthouse in Kansas," it quickly fell out of favor. 

By 1909, local opinion had turned against the outdated building, described by The Salina Daily Union as an "ugly structure" and a source of civic embarrassment.

In response to growing dissatisfaction, county commissioners took steps to erect a new courthouse that would reflect Salina's increasing importance in the region and meet the needs of its growing population. Commissioners visited several courthouses in Kansas and neighboring states, inspiring them to adopt a classical design similar to a courthouse built in Seward, Nebraska in 1905. 

The Seward courthouse's Greek-Roman style, featuring a grand marble stairway and formal pediments, provided a model for Salina's new civic building. Plans were quickly drawn by the local architectural firm Wilmarth and Zerbe, and construction began on the site of the original courthouse in 1910.

The new courthouse, completed in 1911 at a cost of $85,000, approximately $2.7 million today, was immediately recognized as an architectural landmark. Constructed of limestone with concrete floors, oak trim, and fireproof vaults, the building was designed with durability in mind. 

A separate boiler building housed a coal-fired heating system to protect the courthouse from potential fire hazards, a constant concern in a city that had experienced several devastating fires.

The interior of the building was just as grand as its exterior. Its most notable feature was the third-floor courtroom, an expansive space with 18-foot ceilings, designed to accommodate large audiences for trials, which were a common form of public entertainment at the time. 

Rooms for men and women to congregate were provided on the lower floors.

The Decline and Obsolescence of the Courthouse

Despite the fanfare surrounding its opening, the 1911 courthouse was increasingly considered inadequate for the county's growing administrative needs.

 After World War II, the volume of court cases surged, and the building's single courtroom proved insufficient to handle the demand. Offices were cramped, and there was no room to expand the services housed within the courthouse. As early as 1946, county officials recognized the need for either an expansion or a new courthouse altogether.

Over the next two decades, numerous plans were proposed, including adding wings to the existing structure. In 1946, a special property tax was levied to raise funds for courthouse improvements and a new county jail, but indecision and delays slowed the process. 

By the late 1950s, frustration within the legal community and among the general public grew. The Saline County Bar Association even threatened legal action, demanding that the county either use the funds collected through the special tax for the courthouse or return the money to taxpayers.

One major obstacle was the building's lack of modern amenities, particularly air conditioning. During the hot Kansas summers, the courthouse could become unbearably warm, with temperatures inside often exceeding 90 degrees. Office staff resorted to makeshift solutions, such as window fans and towels to absorb perspiration while handling documents. 

In 1960, a limited air conditioning system was installed, but this did little to solve the building's underlying space constraints.

By the early 1960s, it became clear that a more comprehensive solution was required to meet the space needs of the county. 

In 1965, discussions began about constructing a new City-County Building, which would house not only county offices but also city government and the Salina School District. The plan was driven in part by the economic impact of Schilling Air Force Base's closure and the availability of federal Urban Renewal funding, which provided financial incentives for redevelopment projects.

In 1965, Salina voters approved a bond issue to fund the construction of the City-County Building, and by 1969, the new facility was completed. County and city offices moved into the modern structure, leaving the 1911 courthouse vacant. However, the transition was not without controversy, as debates continued about what to do with the old building. Some advocated for its demolition, while others believed it could still serve a purpose.

Repurposing the Old CourthouseSalina Senior Cente

In the early 1970s, the formation of the Saline County Commission on Aging provided a new direction for the old courthouse. As the county's elderly population grew, there was an increasing need for services tailored to senior citizens. The old courthouse, though outdated for its original purpose, offered ample space for such programs. In 1975, the county commission approved a lease agreement that allowed the Commission on Aging to take over the building.

Today, the former courthouse houses several senior-focused programs, including the Salina Senior Center, Meals on Wheels, and the Area Agency on Aging Case Management. Despite the building's age and the challenges associated with maintaining it, the structure has found new life as a center for community services.

📸 Flashback Friday: Salina Post -Saline County Courthouse- Vol. 57

Eighty-seven people vied to be contestants for the Smoky Hill Museums Street Fair’s Serious Eaters Competition. Twenty-four lucky contestants and 6 alternates were selected by the participating restaurants Bravo Sliders-N-Bites, The Cozy Inn and Martinelli’s Little Italy to partake in one of three eating contests.

The contests will take place in front of the Main Stage of the Smoky Hill Museum Street Fair at 211 West Iron on September 28 at 1 pm. Smoky Hill Museum announces contestants Street Fair eating competition

A familiar name has launched a write-in campaign for the Saline County Commission. Kathleen Malone Crouch officially launched her write-in campaign for Saline County Commission District Two on August 19, by filing with Saline County Clerk Jamie Doss. 

Malone Crouch, who previously ran for the Republican nomination against Annie Grevas, lost the primary by only 17 votes following the August 6 election.

“I felt that with a 17 vote difference, I had too much of a chance. I think I have so much to offer the county," Malone Crouch told Salina Post. 

In total, 1,131 Saline County residents voted in the Saline County District Two election.&nbsp;According to the official results, a total of 4,090 Saline County residents voted in the August 6 Primary, representing just 16.7% of registered voters in the county.

Malone Crouch officially filed as a write-in candidate on Monday at 9:08 a.m. The primary election was close enough that she had the option of a recount, which she would have to pay for herself. Doss said a hand recount would likely cost a few hundred dollars.

"Our election staff are paid $10/hr, then it just depends on how long it would take them to count all District Two," Doss said.

Doss said Malone Crouch or any<a target="_blank" href="https://www.salinecountyks.gov/election"> write-in candidate does not have to pay a fee to file.</a>&nbsp;Malone Crouch said although she did not have to pay to file for her write-in campaign, she did pay to file in Republican primary.

The deadline to file for a write-in campaign is October. 8.

Malone Crouch said she feels confident that voter turnout will increase in November. 

"Thinking that the November 5 election will bring out more voters because of the presidential race," Malone Crouch said. "I believe I have a great chance to win this, although I know I would be coming from behind as the underdog write-in, I'm going to give it my best."

Malone Crouch said she plans to hold additional meet-and-greet events at coffee shops around Salina, visit with residents in rural parts of District Two and attend public events as she would&nbsp;

"I have ordered write-in bumper stickers.&nbsp; I've ordered more signs and banners that say write-in," Malone Crouch said.

Malone Crouch, who participated in the League of Women Voters Speed Dating with the Candidate forum, the Granny Brigade forum and the Saline County Republicans forum, said she would be interested in participating in any additional candidate forums before Nov. 5.&nbsp;

"I will be present at meetings unless there's something life-threatening that I can't avoid and I will read about the issues before the meeting," Malone Crouch said. "I believe I do have the passion it takes to serve."
