Salina Police Department officers reported to Central Mall yesterday evening for a report of a battery at the AMC Theatres. When officers arrived, they found another crime unfolding in the parking lot in front of Dunham's Sports.

According to SPD Capt. James Feldman, officers dispatched to the Central Mall at 6:20 p.m., and once they arrived, they communicated with a 14-year-old boy and his parents about a possible criminal threat.

"It was reported that the male [the 14-year-old boy] had been on the other side of the mall when he and several friends began being chased around the mall by three other subjects," Feldman said. "While running, he ended up calling his mother saying he's being chased and then he went into Dunham's."

Feldman said shortly after the boy called his mother, she arrived and told her son to exit the store and meet her in the parking lot. Once he left Dunham's, one of the three subjects, a 17-year-old boy, confronted him.

The mother and stepfather of the boy then stepped between the two children to de-escalate the confrontation when the 17-year-old began threatening the family.

"He began making threats toward them, including that he knows where they live and he will get them," Feldman said. "At the time, he was wearing a backpack and reached in like he had a gun."

As the 17-year-old subject heard sirens, he ran from the scene north into a residential area. Feldman said an off-duty detective who heard the sirens nearby eventually apprehended the suspect and found no gun in the backpack on his person.

"No gun was located, and it is believed that no gun was involved," Feldman said. 

The boy did not resist arrest, and officers requested charges of aggravated assault, criminal threat, battery and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

After his arrest, officers transported the boy to juvenile detention in Junction City. Feldman said there may be future arrests related to this case.

While continually building his musical legacy, Nash is also an internationally renowned photographer and visual artist whose work has been shown in galleries and museums worldwide. A collection of his photos is featured in the book&nbsp;A Life in Focus: The Photography of Graham Nash&nbsp;which was released in November 2021 by Insight Editions.

Last week, a local realtor contacted the Saline County Sheriff's Office after discovering a break-in and burglary at one of the homes listed with their company.

According to County Sheriff Roger Soldan, sometime between Thursday, Nov. 23 and Monday, Feb. 12, an unknown suspect entered an unoccupied residence at 4109 E. North Street just east of Salina.

"This house has been for sale for some time," Soldan said. "Someone got in the house and stole a brand new Kenmore 50-gallon water heater that had been put in the residence, trying to sell it — valued at $800."

Soldan said the realtor contacted deputies after finding drag marks in the kitchen after they went to check on the home.

The burglar also ransacked the basement for copper pipe and electrical wiring, totaling the estimated damages to the home around $5,000.

Saline County Sheriff's deputies continue investigating the crime but have not named any suspect in connection with the burglary.

Home listed for sale burglarized near Salina

Sometime between 3 and 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 18, an unknown suspect stole $600 worth of Barbie dolls from a residence in Salina.

According to Salina Police Department Capt. James Feldman, the suspect, only stole a collection of Barbie dolls placed on a shelf in the home.

"No forced entry was observed," Feldman said. "[The suspect stole] 20 to 25 Barbies... valued at $600 total."

Feldman said the report did not include if the Barbie dolls were on display but that most were dolls from the Barbie Holiday Collection.

The home did not have surveillance cameras, so no video footage of the crime was available for evidence. SPD officers continue to investigate the burglary.

Collection of Barbie dolls stolen from Salina residence

School attendance may be lacking nationwide, but at St. Mary's Elementary School, students eagerly race to class to hug the newest faculty member at Salina Catholic Schools, Jade, a silver labrador retriever professional therapy dog.

Following the COVID-19 Pandemic, Salina Catholic schools learned tough lessons about emotional regulation. Therapy dogs provide support and comfort to individuals in need by using their social instincts and skills to offer socio-emotional, cognitive, and health benefits.

Tym Bonilla, St. Mary's Elementary School principal, said having a therapy dog on campus has become integral to learning. 

"Introducing Jade to the classroom has helped us emotionally regulate students," Bonilla said. "Jade helps erase certain stigmas associated with emotional struggles, depression, anxiety and anger management."

St. Mary's kindergarten teacher, Jessica Jacobs, also Jade's owner, said she got the idea from seeing therapy dogs used in other schools. 

"When I got Jade and took her along on all of my adventures, she was so well-behaved, and everyone we encountered loved her," Jacobs said. "I knew she would make a great addition to my classroom."

Jacobs said having Jade in the classroom helps teach students how to act responsibly and with empathy.

"She has taught students responsibility, as they have to make sure she has water, they see her bed and that she needs let out to go to the bathroom," Jacobs said. "They have also learned empathy; we talk about how we must treat her kindly and use calm bodies and voices."

Before arriving at St. Mary's, Jade participated in four months of training completed by CARES, INC., a licensed therapy dog training academy in Concordia. 

Jade's training also included spending time with the staff and inmates at the Ellsworth Prison.

CARES founder and owner Sarah Holbert said training a dog to become a professional therapy dog typically starts with puppies selected from CARE's breeding program. Jade was a unique exception.

"We turn away a lot of dogs because they don't have the right temperament," Holbert said. "They don't have the right foundation. It just happened that Jade was one of those rare dogs that I felt would respond well to the training, and she did."

Holbert stressed how rare it is to train an adult dog to become a therapy dog successfully.

"CARES, INC. just celebrated 30 years, and in that time, I can think of less than five times when we have successfully trained a dog from outside our breeding program to become a professional therapy dog. It is very rare," Holbert said.

One aspect of Jade's personality that sets her apart from other dogs is that she is incredibly accepting of all people. 

"Some dogs are hesitant to meet small people, like kiddos," Holbert said. "They don't know what to think about 18-month-old toddlers toddling around. Dogs can be very judgmental."

One of the ways CARES helps foster positive and healthy relationships with people Jade interacts with is by using positive reinforcement.

"We do not treat train; we only train through positive reinforcement either by petting or verbalization like saying 'You're such a good girl,'" Holbert said. "The dog should interact with the person or the kiddo, not just look to see what they have in their hand."

Not all dogs accept and understand the correction and positive reinforcement component. However, Jade does. Even though Jade has received treats, she is very willing and eager to work for pets rather than treats. 

"The students have been very excited to have her in our building. Jade helps them feel happy and calm," Jacobs said. "When Jade walks into the building or a room, everyone is all smiles."

Jacobs said if students feel sad, worried, or need personal space, they can spend time with Jade to help them cope with what they are experiencing. 

"Jade has inspired more elaborate pretend play in our classroom. Students have incorporated different experiences with her into their play. There have also been a lot of "Jade" art projects," Jacobs said.

Those interested in bringing a therapy dog program to their school or workplace can contact training academies like CARES, INC.

"Most programs I contacted had between a two and three-year waitlist for a dog," Jacobs said. "Interested teachers should also visit with their building administration to ensure that a school therapy dog would be allowed."

Even though Jade has received treats, she is very willing and eager to work for pets rather than treats. "The students have been very excited to have her in our building. Jade helps them feel happy and calm," Jacobs said. "When Jade walks into the building or a room, everyone is all smiles."Jacobs said if students feel sad, worried, or need personal space, they can spend time with Jade to help them cope with what they are experiencing. "Jade has inspired more elaborate pretend play in our classroom. Students have incorporated different experiences with her into their play. There have also been a lot of "Jade" art projects," Jacobs said.Those interested in bringing a therapy dog program to their school or workplace can contact training academies like CARES, INC."Most programs I contacted had between a two and three-year waitlist for a dog," Jacobs said. "Interested teachers should also visit with their building administration to ensure that a school therapy dog would be allowed."

Presidents Day is a lesser-known federal holiday which many states often call Washington's Birthday, or in Utah where the holiday is celebrated by the state as Washington and Lincoln Day.

Salina Central High School history teacher Deidre Hoff does not particularly teach about the holiday, but in her American History class, she reinforces the importance of each American presidency.

"American history is an important concept for people to understand," Hoff said. "Learning about our Consitution and our presidents and how their policies have impacted and affected us over time."

Hoff said that many students learn important parts of history in celebrating American presidents like George Washington or Abraham Lincoln.

One way Hoff said she teaches about politics in the classroom is by taking a historical perspective and understanding — looking at the period to show why certain presidents made certain decisions during their varied presidencies.

"I really try to help students understand how specific policies or ideas fit into a time period and how those match the values and the perspective of the people in that particular period," Hoff said. "But then also look at it critically through the lens of what that looks like for us today? Do we still agree with those politics or those ideas of the time? Or has our nation changed, and how has our nation changed and why?"

Teaching about the actions historic presidents like Washington and Lincoln took still holds importance in modern politics, with many presidents setting precedents that many Commanders in Chiefs still use to this day.

An example Hoff mentioned was the internment of more than 100,000 Japanese Americans during World War II. 

"We can look at that today and look at that as fairly abhorrent, and I would like to think that people in the past did as well," Hoff said. "But what were the events that surrounded that and made it at the time an important expedience, even though we know that it wasn't, and helping students understand that."

When Hoff teaches about this certain period in history, she often puts it in the context of modern America, asking students how Americans may face similar challenges and make similar mistakes today.

For Hoff, though, a notable president is Theodore Roosevelt, who served the American people from 1901 to 1909 as the 26th U.S. President.

Hoff described Roosevelt as "larger than life" and that through the tumultuous early 1900s, Roosevelt changed the American presidency forever through his actions and decisions in the Oval Office.

"He fascinates me for all the things that he was involved in and all the different facets of American life at the time that he had influence on," Hoff said. "He totally changed the presidency in many ways, in terms of its power, and how does that compare then to presidents of the past or presidents today?"

Many Americans interact with the lasting legacy of past presidents, and Hoff explains that for students, learning about these legacies allows them to better understand the world around them.

"It's knowing why certain things are on your coins or on your dollar bills or why symbols like flags exist," Hoff said. "I think it's just helping students to understand what their nation stands for, who they are and again, what we uphold as important."

The legacy of Presidents Day in the classroom

On Valentine's Day morning, an unknown suspect allegedly attempted to steal cash from the Dragon's Ascent strategy game at Sunset Billiards.

Salina Police Department officers received a notification at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, the Sunset Billiards security system alerted a break-in at the business.

"When we were responding to the alarm, we were told by the bar owners to disregard," said SPD Lt. Kyle Tonniges. "They didn't need a police response; evidently, they decided to check on it themselves."

Tonniges said at 9:17 a.m., Sunset staff called SPD and reported a burglary at the bar. A suspect forced entry into the back door and, once inside, attempted to pry open two Dragon's Ascent gaming machines.

Dragon's Ascent, A Game of Skill and Strategy, is an arcade-like game that provides cash prizes for its players.

Sunset Billiards staff emptied the games the night before, so the suspect caused $400 in damage to the machines and about $1,200 by breaking the glass door to enter the business.

"There is video surveillance from inside the store, and we're reviewing that and trying to identify who this suspect was," Tonniges said. "We classified it as burglary or damage to property — it was pretty evident that they were attempting to commit a theft."

Unleash Your Inner Genius at RHZ's Trivia Tails Event on Leap Year Day

Two Wichita men stole more than $1,000 in Nike apparel from Dick's Sporting Goods on Tuesday afternoon.

According to Salina Police Department Capt. James Feldman, store employees reported that around 2 p.m., the suspects exited the store without paying for numerous clothing items.

The suspects were 42-year-old Demarcus Hoover from Wichita and 35-year-old Manuel Moya from Maize.

"It was determined one of the suspects had distracted an employee by asking a question while the other suspect pushed out a cart containing the Nike clothing," Feldman said.

Before sending the suspects' descriptions to local units, a Saline County deputy stopped a black Honda Accord with an expired Tennessee tag at milepost 82 on Interstate 135.

During the stop, Feldman said that deputies searched the vehicle and recovered $1,274 in Nike clothing alongside several stolen items from Walmart, including a pressure washer, several necklaces, and a chess set.

Feldman said deputies booked both into the Saline County Jail and requested charges for property theft.

Wichita shoplifters arrested for stealing from two Salina businesses

There's one city that takes Valentine's Day to the next level — Loveland, Colo.

Each year, I enjoy taking a trip out to Loveland during February to see the town bathed in pink and red hues for the holiday, complete with the Sweetheart Festival the weekend before.

Loveland is a community close to the prominent natural feature Devil's Backbone and north of Denver, Colo. According to the <a href="https://loveland.org/explore-loveland/loveland/facts-history/history-of-loveland/">Loveland Chamber of Commerce</a>, city founders named the town after William A. H. Loveland, who helped establish the rail lines from Denver to nearby Fort Collins.

During my visit from Friday, Feb. 9, to Monday, Feb. 12, I attended multiple Sweetheart Festival events and visited the downtown local vendors who set up shop for the day.

The sights, sounds, and shops of the entire town light up with love-themed everything, with romantic photo opportunities spread throughout Lincoln Avenue and ice sculptures by local artists.

Event staff set up ice blocks the night before, ready for local artists to carve away while attendees watched the blocks transform into reliefs of playing cards, scenery and people.

The <a href="https://www.facebook.com/soulshinebotanica/">Soul Shine Botanica and Gifts</a>, an apothecary, tea and gift shop, was one shop we visited while walking to the <a href="https://www.thelovelandmuseum.org/beet/">Beet Education Center at the Loveland Museum</a>&nbsp;for more event activities.

As we walked into Soul Shine, various teas lined an antique shelf, with unique tea-related wares alongside tumbled stones and crystals.

One of my favorite items was a ball tea strainer that sported a sizeable raw amethyst crystal on the end of its chain to hold the filter at the right level in my tea mug.

My favorite establishment was a small coffee shop named Dark Heart Coffee, which uses single-origin coffee in each drink and often rotates flavorful lattes to match each season.

Single-origin coffee is roasted coffee from a single, known geographic region. The coffee often presents unique characteristics compared to blended coffees with multiple origins.

The Maple Bourbon Latte, slightly sweetened for my severe sweet tooth, became the drink of choice at the small cafe, which used bourbon extract and maple syrup for a deliciously unique latte.

After acquiring coffee for the morning, my partner and I ventured downtown for the festival, where we roamed through each local vendor and participated in the community mural that remains as permanent public art in Loveland.

The festival began this tradition two years ago, and my partner and I participated this year. Each attendee can take a square of the overall mural and personalize it within a few parameters.

Staff will draw out the shape beforehand on each square and write a correlating letter to tell participants which table to visit with the matching color theme.&nbsp;

Mine was pretty simple, but I enjoyed watching families wipe paint onto their young children's hands and feet to memorialize their visit to the festival.

The<a href="https://www.themishawaka.com/"> Mishawaka Amphitheater</a> in Poudre Canyon offered a unique dinner service alongside the Sweetheart Festival. The restaurant rests on the Cache la Poudre River, with a balcony dining area that hovers above the water.

Due to the weather, staff offered bubble tents with heaters for patrons to enjoy the sights surrounding Mishawaka while staying warm. The Valentine's Day dinner service for the evening provided a bottle of local wine, two entree choices and a choice for an appetizer and dessert.

The appetizer options included a veggie tray, a few small bites, and some artichoke dip, which my partner and I chose. The dip featured corn chips and various vegetables, including carrots, cucumbers, broccoli, and celery sticks.

For my entree, I enjoyed a penne pasta dish with spicy veggie meatballs and a side Caesar salad, and my partner had the garlic and herb butter sirloin steak with steamed broccoli and scalloped potatoes.

The New York-style cheesecake rounded out our meal, and by the time we left, I was tipsy on the local wine, and my partner was stuffed from the delicious food.

Once we finished our meal at Mishawaka, we drove back into Loveland, about a 30-minute trip, to watch some live music and a fire show downtown by local metal artisans.

The ice sculptors finished their work while we visited Mishawaka. By the time we revisited downtown, colorful lighting illuminated the intricate work of the artists, with wide-ranging themes for each.

There was also a tall block of ice for visitors to write messages on, and I found a fellow Kansan who let everyone know where they felt at home.

The live show featured a local cover band who performed famous classic rock hits like "Sweet Child of Mine" by Guns and Roses.

Overall, the Sweetheart Festival did not disappoint, nor did the entire town of Loveland. With expansive views of the mountains to the west and many hiking trails merely 30 minutes away, the travel destination has become a favorite of mine.

 </figure>One of my favorite items was a ball tea strainer that sported a sizeable raw amethyst crystal on the end of its chain to hold the filter at the right level in my tea mug.My favorite establishment was a small coffee shop named Dark Heart Coffee, which uses single-origin coffee in each drink and often rotates flavorful lattes to match each season.Single-origin coffee is roasted coffee from a single, known geographic region. The coffee often presents unique characteristics compared to blended coffees with multiple origins.<figure>

 </figure>The Maple Bourbon Latte, slightly sweetened for my severe sweet tooth, became the drink of choice at the small cafe, which used bourbon extract and maple syrup for a deliciously unique latte.After acquiring coffee for the morning, my partner and I ventured downtown for the festival, where we roamed through each local vendor and participated in the community mural that remains as permanent public art in Loveland.<figure>

 </figure>The festival began this tradition two years ago, and my partner and I participated this year. Each attendee can take a square of the overall mural and personalize it within a few parameters.Staff will draw out the shape beforehand on each square and write a correlating letter to tell participants which table to visit with the matching color theme.&nbsp;Mine was pretty simple, but I enjoyed watching families wipe paint onto their young children's hands and feet to memorialize their visit to the festival.<figure>

 </figure>The<a href="https://www.themishawaka.com/"> Mishawaka Amphitheater</a> in Poudre Canyon offered a unique dinner service alongside the Sweetheart Festival. The restaurant rests on the Cache la Poudre River, with a balcony dining area that hovers above the water.Due to the weather, staff offered bubble tents with heaters for patrons to enjoy the sights surrounding Mishawaka while staying warm. The Valentine's Day dinner service for the evening provided a bottle of local wine, two entree choices and a choice for an appetizer and dessert.<figure>

 </figure>The appetizer options included a veggie tray, a few small bites, and some artichoke dip, which my partner and I chose. The dip featured corn chips and various vegetables, including carrots, cucumbers, broccoli, and celery sticks.For my entree, I enjoyed a penne pasta dish with spicy veggie meatballs and a side Caesar salad, and my partner had the garlic and herb butter sirloin steak with steamed broccoli and scalloped potatoes.<figure>

 </figure>The New York-style cheesecake rounded out our meal, and by the time we left, I was tipsy on the local wine, and my partner was stuffed from the delicious food.Once we finished our meal at Mishawaka, we drove back into Loveland, about a 30-minute trip, to watch some live music and a fire show downtown by local metal artisans.<figure>

 </figure>The ice sculptors finished their work while we visited Mishawaka. By the time we revisited downtown, colorful lighting illuminated the intricate work of the artists, with wide-ranging themes for each.There was also a tall block of ice for visitors to write messages on, and I found a fellow Kansan who let everyone know where they felt at home.<figure>

 </figure>The live show featured a local cover band who performed famous classic rock hits like "Sweet Child of Mine" by Guns and Roses.Overall, the Sweetheart Festival did not disappoint, nor did the entire town of Loveland. At around 3 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 14, a two-car crash occurred near Salina Central High School and Dental Care of Salina on Front Street and Crawford Avenue.

Salina Police Department Lt. Kyle Tonniges said an injury occurred due to the crash but did not provide further details. Multiple SPD officers reported to the incident, alongside the Salina Fire Department.

Two-vehicle crash leads to injury in central Salina

Spring often greets Kansas yearly with powerful storms, sending meteorologists on the road while residents take shelter indoors.&nbsp;

Many Kansans become accustomed to severe weather, but at Storm Fury on the Plains, National Weather Service meteorologists Robb Lawson and Kevin Darmofal reminded residents of how dangerous severe weather can be.

"You need to take it seriously; that's what we try to impart to people, especially here," Darmofal said. "It never happens to you until it does, and when it does, it's very tragic."

Storm Fury on the Plains held its first seminar this year at Kansas Wesleyan University Peters Science Hall, beginning a string of 25 different presentation locations across the state.

Lawson opened the presentation on Tuesday, Feb. 6, with varying storm structures, from squall line storms to photogenic supercells.

Squall lines are long lines of storms that often host dangerous wind gusts and hail, while supercells are isolated, rotating storms that regularly produce tornadoes and downpours of rain and hail.

In the presentation, Lawson pointed out various parts of a supercell and how to gauge its severity based on visual information and radar scanning.

As many residents and seasoned storm spotters listened in the audience, one attendee sat eager to learn more about something that scared him.

Rachael Walker and her 6-year-old son, Jaxson Walker, attended the presentation to learn more about storm safety and some new information about powerful storms.

Jaxson Walker once feared storms, but in recent years, he's learned more about severe weather, and now, according to Rachael Walker, it's become a significant interest in his life and something he strives to learn about.

"Especially when we have that fear, I feel like knowledge is power," Rachael Walker said. "I feel like that helps a lot with not being as fearful and just learning about stuff."

Once Jaxson learned more about severe weather, Rachael Walker said he grew confident about protecting himself during a storm and what to look for in the future.

When a powerful storm hits, Rachael Walker said she and her family enjoy taking quick looks out the window to view the squall, and once it's safe, they often venture out to look for rainbows.

Rachael Walker homeschools Jaxson and his two sisters, so teaching about storm safety became essential in the at-home classroom.

Storm Fury on the Plains only reinforced Rachael Walker's teachings at home, with Darmofal stating that knowing about powerful storms leads to safer decisions while looking for safety.

"Know what to do, have a plan, and have that plan in advance, not waiting until the last minute, then you have multiple ways to receive weather information and warnings," Darmofal said. "Those are probably going to keep people safe."

An essential factor that weaved through the presentation for experienced storm chasers and residents was keeping two or more avenues to receive severe weather information.&nbsp;

Darmofal and Lawson stated the importance of having a weather radio on hand, alongside any other source for information, including a smartphone, another radio, or television.

The Saline County Emergency Management team helped facilitate the presentation in Peters Science Hall. The County Public Information Officer, Melissa McCoy, shared easy ways to remember critical storm safety tips.

"When the thunder roars, get indoors. Turn around, don't drown," McCoy said. "Number one, we want people to be safe."

Storm Fury on the Plains will continue its presentations across the state, teaching storm spotters new information on technologies or reporting techniques while informing everyday citizens on how to stay safe during severe storms.

Storm Fury on the Plains presents critical storm safety information

Salina Police Department officers responded to a domestic disturbance after a concerned acquaintance reported violence they heard over a phone call.

At 12:11 p.m., Monday, Feb. 12, SPD officers reported to the 500 block of West Iron Avenue and spoke with a 35-year-old female victim at her residence with her 48-year-old boyfriend, Torick Patton. 

"In speaking with them, we learned that Torick was refusing to let her leave the residence and pushing her away from the door," said SPD Lt. Kyle Tonniges. "At one point, he also took off his belt, raised it above his head, threatening to strike her."

Tonniges said the victim told officers that two days before the domestic report, Patton had held her down in a bed and began to strangle her.

Officers reported finding visible evidence of injuries on the victim's neck and decided to arrest Patton with requested charges for aggravated domestic battery, domestic battery, assault and criminal restraint.

Salina man arrested after officers find strangling injuries on victim

Salina Public Schools (SPS) recognized two Horizon Teachers at the February 13 Board of Education meeting. An elementary and a secondary teacher is selected each year for the Horizon Award and recognized for excellence during their first full year of teaching.

Elementary Horizon Award – Camdyn Schreiber, Fourth Grade Teacher

Camdyn teaches fourth grade at Sunset Elementary School. She is known as a highly reflective teacher, continuously striving to strengthen student relationships and enhance their lessons.

At the beginning of the school year, she gave each parent or guardian a card that read, “Handle with Care,” and included her email address and phone number. The parents and guardians were instructed to contact Camdyn if their child needed extra care, for any reason, during the school day. When they emailed or called to let her know of a child’s special need, Camdyn offered caring and compassion to her student. And, she followed up quickly, kindly and professionally after each contact with the adults.

In her classroom, Camdyn uses her students’ interests as a starting point to engage them in discussions. She makes sure to highlight important events in their lives and show that her classroom is a community where all of them experience a sense of belonging.

Camdyn received her bachelor’s degree from Kansas State University. She is currently working towards her master’s degree in Instructional Technology at Fort Hays State University.

Secondary Horizon Award – Josh Rubino, English Teacher

Josh is a second year English Language Arts teacher at Central High School (CHS), where he teaches 10th and 12th grade English.

Peer-teaching, where small groups of students become “experts” in a concept, is often used in Josh’s classes. While teacher lectures and individual work are part of the experience, collaboration is at the heart of his teaching strategies.

“When students are working with others to answer a question, solve a problem, or create something, they are being active learners while practicing valuable interpersonal skills,” explains Josh. He gives them options for learning the course material and prioritizes students discovering things on their own, rather than lecturing.

Josh graduated from the University of Kansas with a bachelor’s degree in English and is currently earning his teaching certification through Fort Hays State University. He is an advocate for the humanities in education, and strives to help students find joy and meaning in reading and writing. In addition to his duties as a teacher, Josh is co-coach of the Mustang Scholar’s Bowl team and sponsor of the CHS Chess Club. Always trying new things, Josh hopes to role-model the pursuit of lifelong learning to his students.
