REPUBLIC COUNTY—A Kansas man died in an accident just before 5:30p.m. Wednesday in Republic County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2016 International semi driven by Richard Paul, 50, Port Saint Lucie, Florida, was eastbound on U.S 36 one half mile east of U.S. 81.
The driver lost control of the vehicle. It jackknifed and struck a westbound 2004 Buick LeSabre driven by Fred L. Mikesell, 60, Scandia. The impact pushed the Buick off the north side of the roadway where it struck a tree.
Mikesell was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to Bachelor Funeral Home. Paul was not injured. The KHP had incomplete seat belt usage information.
