CLAY CENTER -- Clay County Medical Center's program for students has a new name.

The former Medical Explorer Post #2156 will now be known as the Future Medical Professionals program at Clay County Medical Center. Students from any area high schools are welcome to join the program, which meets once a month and immerses participants in activities throughout the hospital.

The next meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. Monday and students will experience “the day in the life of an inpatient.” From admission to discharge, students will witness the care and services available to inpatients at CCMC. Hands-on experience includes the patient admission, nurse charting, and discharge planning.

CCMC is specifically focused on exposing high school students who are interested in learning about healthcare and healthcare careers by touring different medical departments, including hands-on activities. Students under 18 years old will need a parent’s signature before the first meeting. The program is scheduled to meet on the second Monday of every month during the school year.
