After cruising to a third-place finish in Class 2A and an overall record of 22-4, the Sacred Heart Knights will look to re-load and run it back with a new-look squad this season.

Brian Gormley returns to the helm for his 14th season leading the Knights, with a career record of 212-123.

Sacred Heart’s lineup will look much different this season after graduating seven seniors, including the entire starting five from a season ago.

Anchoring this fresh-faced unit is Will Tuttle, who shot over 50% from the floor last season and 40% from deep, averaging just under 10 points per game for Sacred Heart.

Tuttle will be joined in the starting five by senior Carson Lehmann, junior Luke Koland, and sophomores Noah Hines and Maddox Wells.

Juniors Ben Marrs and Ben Disberger, and sophomore Dom Matteucci should add an extra punch off the Knight’s bench this season as well.

Ahead of the opening tip, we had a chance to sit down with Coach Gormley and get his thoughts on this year’s team.

Q: How do you feel about the state of the program after a strong third-place finish last season?

A: “I feel great about the state of our program. We have a lot of inexperienced players this year after graduating seven seniors but we really like our guys. It’s going to take some time to gain some experience as our guys get used to the speed and ability of what it takes in a varsity game, but they’re competitive and we’ll see how long it takes for them to make that adjustment.”

Q: What would you say is the biggest strength of this team going into the new season?

A: “Everything starts for us with Will Tuttle. He’s the biggest scorer that we got back from last year and he was shooting over 40% from the 3-point line and 50% from 2. He’s long, he’s gotten a little thicker this year and we’ll lean on his experience early on. He’s the ideal scorer at all three levels.”

Q: What are the biggest question marks you’ll be looking to sort out in these first few games?

A: “We weren’t an overly big team last year but we had some guys in that 6-2 range that had senior bodies, and we held our own in every game on the boards. This year, we lost some height, and we’ll be harping on our guys to be aggressive, block out, and be quick to the ball because rebounding, on paper, does not look like it’s in our favor.”

Q: What goals and expectations has this team laid out for themselves this season?

A: “Our number one goal is always to improve and buy into the process approach. We want to go into Christmas 10 points better than what we started and we want to be another 10 points better by the end of January. I think we might see some peaks and valleys this year, but I honestly believe that with the players that we have, we’re going to see some exponential increases in some of these guys as the year goes on.”

Sacred Heart opens its season at home this Friday when they play host to the Eagles of Clifton-Clyde.

2024-25 preseason profile: Sacred Heart boys basketball

LAWRENCE, Kan. –&nbsp;Kansas redshirt junior quarterback Jalon Daniels has been announced as one of 12 semifinalists for the 2024 Comeback Player of the Year Award.

The award semifinalists were announced Tuesday by College Sports Communicators, in association with The Associated Press and the Fiesta Bowl Organization.

Daniels, who was limited to three games by injury during the 2023 season, returned in a big way this season. Named a team captain before the season, Daniels started all 12 games for the Jayhawks and completed 171-of-300 (57.0 percent) passes for 2,454 yards and 14 touchdowns. His yardage mark is No. 7 in school history for a single season, while his 14 touchdown passes tied for 10th.

Daniels threw for more than 200 yards five times, with a season-high 295 yards in Kansas’ 45-36 win over No. 16 Iowa State on Nov. 9. Daniels also had four games with multiple touchdown passes, including three in KU’s 42-14 win over Houston on Oct. 19. Daniels finished the season as KU’s second-leading rusher, running for 447 yards and six touchdowns on 93 carries.

For his career, Daniels has appeared in 37 games for the Jayhawks, moving to No. 2 in career passing yards (6,751) and touchdown passes (45) during the 2024 season. He also holds the program’s single-game record for passing yards, throwing for 544 in the 2022 AutoZone Liberty Bowl.

Jackson was key for the Coyotes at attacking midfield. She was part of several goal scoring opportunities for the Coyotes, and finished with six goals in 13 conference appearances.

Hernandez was a key part of KWU's defense at center back. She was a big reason the Coyotes held conference opponents to only eight goals during the season.

Galvan was huge in goal for the Coyotes. She allowed only seven goals during conference play and had 37 saves in goal and a 0.61 goals against average and an impressive .841 save percentage.

Conner was big for the Coyotes on offense, scoring six goals and had four assists in conference play, ranking second on the team in points.

Gervy scored seven goals for the Coyotes and had four assists during conference play, Her seven goals and 18 points led the team, and her four assists were tied for the team lead.

Nwosu was exceptional for the Coyotes at attacking midfield, scoring three goals and tallying four assists in conference play, and had four goals and five assists overall.

Anderson was another big part of the Coyote defense that allowed just eight goals in KCAC play. She also had four assists for the Coyotes during the season, three during KCAC play.

KWU Women’s Soccer places seven on All-KCAC teams

Kansas Wesleyan's <a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/c2b221e1-d1bb-4eba-b3cd-7e420b664b7b?elinkdata=16209">Luke Armstrong</a> was named the KCAC Bissell Division Player of the Year and <a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/9ba5cef3-1342-4c6e-92ec-beb87e940223?elinkdata=16209">Cole Segraves</a> was named as the Division Special Teams Player of the Year headlining the Coyotes' All-Division selections.

All-Division teams are selected by the conference coaches.

Armstrong led the division and all of the KCAC in rushing yards (1,297) through the end of the regular season, which ranks second in the NAIA. He tied for the lead in rushing touchdowns in all of the KCAC with 14 through the end of the regular season. He also had 91 receiving yards, 156 punt return yards, and 447 kick return yards, giving him 1,991 all-purpose yards through the end of the regular season. His total all-purpose yardage ranked first in all of the KCAC, and second in the NAIA.

Serving as both kicker and punter for the Coyotes, Segraves ranked third in the division in punting yards (632), with a long of 50 yards. His kickoffs averaged 59.3 yards on the season, with a total kickoff yardage of 3,378. He was 3 of 4 on the season on field goals, serving as the "long-distance kicker" for KWU, going 2 of 3 on field goals over 50 yards, with a long of 54 on the year.

Caballero and Lewis anchored a strong offensive line for the Coyotes that blocked for the division's leading rusher as the Coyotes rushed for over 1300 yards in divisional play and over 2300 yards in the regular season.

King-Bradley led the Bissell Division in sacks with seven during divisional play and had 10.5 through the end of the regular season, which was tops in the entire KCAC, and was third best in the NAIA through the end of the regular season.

Elam led the Coyotes with 45 tackles in divisional play which ranked fourth best in the division. He ranked second in the division in overall games with 102 through the end of the regular season, and was third in the entire KCAC with that total.

Massaquoi had 22 tackles during divisional play which was eighth best in the division, and had one interception, and four pass breakups. Overall he had 70 tackles which ranked eighth in the division. He had two interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown.

Cope led the division in kick scoring with 31 points, that including five field goals and 16 extra points during conference play. He had a long field goal make of 46 yards. Overall he scored 65 points, which led the division by a wide margin, and ranked fourth in the entire KCAC in kick scoring.

Fewell ranked fifth in the division in rushing yards with 300 in five divisional games, and was fifth in the division overall with 546 yards.

Gray ranked 10th in the division in receiving yards with 170 on 13 receptions during divisional play. He ranked eighth in the division overall with 375 yards on 24 receptions.

Adams and Casimire anchored a strong offensive line for the Coyotes that blocked for the division's leading rusher as the Coyotes rushed for over 1300 yards in divisional play and over 2300 yards in the regular season.

Diggins had four tackles for loss in divisional play and 24 total tackles. He also had two fumble recoveries returning one for a touchdown. Overall he had 46 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and added a third fumble recovery during the regular season.

Garcia had 30 tackles during the regular season and had 2.5 sacks and 5.5 tackles for loss. In divisional play, he had 12 tackles, which included 1.5 sacks and 2.5 tackles for loss along with two fumble recoveries.

Preston had 10 tackles during divisional play, and had one interception. He had 33 tackles during the regular season, and had three interceptions.

Walton was key in the Coyote special teams game, being able to accurately get the ball back to the punter or holder on kicks with minimal issues.

McNair had 918 yards passing on the season while completing 54 perceont of passes with five touchdowns and two interceptions overall. In divisional play he had 301 yards passiend while completing 53 percent of passes with two touchdowns.

Tafea was key in helping the Coyotes with their strong rushing attack. He also had three receptions on the season for 67 yards.

Banks had 73 yards receiving in divisional play, and 140 overall on the season.

Luna was part of a strong offensive line for the Coyotes that blocked for the division's leading rusher as the Coyotes rushed for over 1300 yards in divisional play and over 2300 yards in the regular season.

Worrell had 12 tackles during divisional play and 26 overall which included two sacks and 5.5 tackles for loss.

Cabrera had 36 tackles on the season including 2.5 sacks. He had 14 tackles in divisional play.

Klieman had 14 tackles in divisional play and had an interception. Overall he had 61 tackles and two interceptions.

Dupre had 23 tackles on the season and one interception and two pass breakups. 11 tackles came in divisional play.

Hawkins had 53 tackles for the Coyotes which included 2.5 sacks. Several of his tackles came on special teams.

Taylor was the do-it-all guy on offense. He played multiple positions including quarterback, fullback and tight end. He had 92 yards rushing on the season on 17 carries, and had three receptions for 48 yards and a touchdown.

Wiltse was averaging 35.3 yards per punt and had nine inside the 20 and 10 fair catches on 35 punts before suffering a season-ending injury in the Saint Mary game. He had long kick of 66 yards.

Overall he had 61 tackles and two interceptions.Dupre had 23 tackles on the season and one interception and two pass breakups. 11 tackles came in divisional play.Hawkins had 53 tackles for the Coyotes which included 2.5 sacks. Several of his tackles came on special teams.Taylor was the do-it-all guy on offense. He played multiple positions including quarterback, fullback and tight end. He had 92 yards rushing on the season on 17 carries, and had three receptions for 48 yards and a touchdown.Wiltse was averaging 35.3 yards per punt and had nine inside the 20 and 10 fair catches on 35 punts before suffering a season-ending injury in the Saint Mary game. The newly rebranded FanDuel Sports Network Kansas City will continue to deliver live games to fans across cable and satellite as well as a streaming package directly through the network, similar to 2024 when the Royals’ linear viewership was up more than 30% and the streaming audience grew more than 200%.

The Royals ended last season with more than 40,000 streaming subscribers, with more than half watching each game for at least 90 minutes. The Royals had the biggest subscriber growth across baseball.

“This past season reinforced what we’ve always known about the passion of our fans and how much they enjoy watching our great athletes perform,” said Royals President of Business Operations Brooks Sherman. “Our viewership grew toward the top of all of baseball, and we’re excited to continue to position ourselves for the future.”

Fans who streamed Royals games in 2024 on the former Bally Sports app can update to the new FanDuel Sports Network app in preparation for the upcoming season.

<a>MANHATTAN, Kan. –&nbsp;</a>Dana Dimel, who spent 20 years as a part of Bill Snyder’s K-State coaching staff, passed away Tuesday at the age of 62, his family announced. He is survived by his wife, Julie, and children, Winston and Josey.

Dimel, who spent the 2024 season on former Wildcat assistant Bret Bielema’s staff at Illinois, served three stints on Snyder's staff at K-State following an All-America playing career as an offensive tackle for the Wildcats from 1984-86.

He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant in Manhattan in 1987-88 leading into eight seasons (1989-96) as an assistant coach. He returned to K-State for one season in 2005 and then returned to K-State for the third time and spent nine seasons (2009-17) as the program's offensive coordinator and running backs/tight ends coach.

Overall Dimel was a part of 12 bowl teams during 19 seasons in Manhattan. The Wildcats posted an 11-win season (2012) with a Big 12 Championship, two 10-win campaigns (1995 and 2011) and five nine-win seasons (1993, 1994, 1996, 2014, and 2016) during that span, and finished in the top-25 of the BCS and CFP rankings on three occasions – 2011 (No. 8 BCS), 2012 (No. 5 BCS), and 2014 (No. 11 CFP).

Dimel, a Columbus, Ohio, native, compiled the most wins of any active offensive coordinator in college football from 2011-17 (61) and was a part of eight straight bowl appearances.&nbsp;Overall, in his 32 seasons as a head or assistant coach, Dimel mentored 37 players who went on to play in the NFL.

In addition to his time at K-State, Dimel had successful head coaching stops at Wyoming (1997-1999), Houston (2000-2002) and UTEP (2018-2023).

“Obviously, we are very saddened by the passing of Dana. He was a special friend and coaching companion. I admired his passion for helping his players and fellow coaches. He was a big part of the development of the Kansas State football program, and along with his wife Julie, very meaningful in the Manhattan community.”

Garcia was a huge part of KWU's successes during the season. He scored seven goals and had three assists on the season, but his impact on the field went far beyond goals and assists. At the midfield position, he was responsible in setting up chances for the strikers for the Coyotes to score goals. He commanded attention in the attacking third from opposing defenses.

Pagnutti was outstanding for the Coyotes in goal. He played every minute of every match for the Coyotes, and finished with a 1.00 Goals Against Average in conference play and a 1.20 GAA overall on the season. He had 54 saves during the season and a .684 save percentage overall and a .698 save percentage in conference play.

Walgren was big for the Coyotes on defense at outside back. He helped the KWU defense hold opponents to only 13 goals during the conference season and 24 goals overall. He also played a part on offense, assisting in three goals during the season.

Wernicke was another key part of KWU's defense at center back, he was solid for the Coyotes on the back line, helping secure the line and keep opposing offenses out of goal. Wernicke was also a contributor to the KWU offense scoring four goals on the season.

• K-State leads the Big 12 and ranks 12th in the nation in field goal percentage defense (.330). The Wildcats have held two foes under 30.0 percent from the field - Little Rock (23.3) and Central Arkansas (28.0).

Q: You said after the game that the Raiders were bringing an extra guy to stop the run. What was your overall evaluation of your run game against the Raiders?

HEAD COACH ANDY REIDOPENING STATEMENT:&nbsp;“Alright, I don’t have any injuries necessarily for you. It’s kind of a package deal there but I didn’t feel like I was necessarily putting them in the best position against that.”Q: What part of the Hallmark movie experience are you going to remember most?REID:&nbsp;“(Laughs) I didn’t have a real big part in it, thank goodness, or the movie probably wouldn’t have been as good as it was so that’s a good thing, but I enjoyed the people with Hallmark. They sure do a nice job with things and it’s a local group here, so they’re Kansas City grown, and I appreciate their support. I think we have a unique relationship between the two organizations, which is something. I mean, Hallmark is one of those (businesses) we all grew up with. If you needed a Christmas card, you knew where to go. You go to Hallmark, and you knew you were in good hands there. Anyways – it was fun. It was fun for what I did there. They (Hallmark) made it painless.”Q: What will D.J. Humphries’ practice week look like this week?REID:&nbsp;“We’ll work him (D.J. Humphries) in and see what he can – see how he feels. You know, that’s the main thing. He hasn’t played in a while, so I just want to make sure he’s in good position. He did a nice job last week working in there and we’ll do a little bit more with him this week.”Q: What’s gone wrong at left tackle this season?REID:&nbsp;“Listen, we’ve got young guys working in there and so the growth – they’re going against good players and the good ones have gotten probably the better of us. It’s things that these guys will learn from, and they can bank for the future and get themselves better and I think that will help us down the road. So, that’s what I would tell you.”Q:&nbsp;How did you feel like Joshua Williams did defensively after coming in for Nazeeh Johnson?REID:&nbsp;“Listen, I’m glad we have both of them (Nazeeh Johnson and Joshua Williams). I think both of them can still work in there and do some things. We haven’t given up on Nazeeh (Johnson) or anything of that sort. I mean, he’s coming off a pretty major knee surgery and so we’ve kind of kept an eye on him with that. I think as we go forward we can use both of them, I’m sure.”Q:&nbsp;Do you think it’s a possibility for D.J. Humphries to start at left tackle this week?REID:&nbsp;“Listen, the last week was a short week, so we didn’t have a whole lot of time to – you know, for the fast part of the game practices. This week he’ll (D.J. Humphries) have a – I’ll have a better idea as we go, and he’ll have a better idea (of) how he feels. Then, we just go from there. We’ll just see how it all works out.”Q:&nbsp;Have you determined who will start at left tackle this week?REID:&nbsp;“No, I – listen, I don’t think that’s probably fair to D.J. (Humphries) right now just (with) him coming off this offseason. I think we just play it by year, Sam (McDowell), as we go. If he feels okay, then we give him an opportunity. If it’s not where it needs to be then you don’t. We’ll see how it goes.”Q:&nbsp;If D.J. Humphries isn’t ready, would you roll with Joe Thuney at left tackle?REID:&nbsp;“Well, that’s another one of the options that we’ve got. We finished the game that way. I’d rather have Joe (Thuney) playing in at guard because he’s very good there, but (Mike) Caliendo isn’t bad either, so that’s a good problem to have. We’ve got some flexibility there as needed.”Q:&nbsp;Could the game against the Raiders be a turning point for Xavier Worthy?REID:&nbsp;“Yeah, Matt (Derrick). I mean, he’s (Xavier Worthy) getting better. I think that’s what we all can see. It’s not a secret, he’s putting that out there for everybody to see. I would – my main concern is that he just keeps doing that. That’s what you want to do – keep working to better yourself and let’s just see where it all ends up at the end. He’s doing a nice job, he’s got the trust of the quarterback (Patrick Mahomes), he’s got the trust of the coaches, he’s playing fast, looks like he’s got his legs back from training camp and the early part of (the) season so all of that’s positive stuff. You have to keep putting the product out there.”Q: After watching film and looking at Wanya Morris, are his struggles mental or physical? Which one is easier to fix?REID:&nbsp;“Listen, sometimes things snowball on you, Todd (Leabo). I mean, it’s a little bit of everything (that’ll) get you. He (Wanya Morris) started off pretty good and then it kind of went from there (and) that happens with young guys. Nobody wants that to happen that way but sometimes it happens and then you kind of get frozen in your own feet there and don’t know what to do exactly. It’s a great learning experience for him, I would expect him to do that – whatever direction this thing goes, I would expect him to do that. He’s a good kid and he works hard. I’d tell you the same thing with Kingsley (Suamataia). Both of them are – have got some valuable experience this year and we’ll continue to hope that they would learn from all of that.”Q: Was Travis Kelce’s lateral in the game an indication that he’s earned the right to do that?REID:&nbsp;“He’s (Travis Kelce) been doing it for a few years. We do it in practice every day – you guys see that, so you know this isn’t just something that we throw out there on game day.
