ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Josh Allen threw a touchdown pass and ran for two scores to outduel Patrick Mahomes and the Buffalo Bills defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 28-21 on Sunday in a rematch of last season’s AFC championship game.

James Cook had 114 yards rushing and Buffalo’s defense did the rest in harassing Mahomes, who was sacked three times, hit 15 more and finished with the worst completion percentage of his career.

The game was decided in the final 17 seconds, when Mahomes threw three straight incompletions from Buffalo’s 40. The last throw fell short of the end zone and was batted down by rookie Maxwell Hairston. The drive began at Kansas City's 42 after Matt Prater's 52-yard field goal attempt for the Bills struck the right upright.

Allen was 23 of 26 for 273 yards for Buffalo, which improved to 6-2 and has won two straight since losing consecutive games. The Bills have defeated Kansas City in five straight regular-season meetings, but are 0-4 in playoff matchups dating to the 2020 postseason — including last season's AFC title game.

The Chiefs (5-4) had a three-game win streak snapped after winning five of their last six.

Mahomes, who entered having passed for three touchdowns in each of his past three outings, finished 15 of 34 for 250 yards and no scores and an interception.

Mahomes, a two-time NFL MVP, had previously never finished a regular-season outing completing fewer than 50% of his passes over his nine-year career. His previous low was going 19 of 38 for 159 yards in a 21-7 win at Cleveland on Dec. 15.

Rashee Rice scored on a 3-yard run and Kareem Hunt had a 2-yard run to account for the Chiefs’ two touchdowns. Mahomes did convert a 2-point play with a completion to Travis Kelce, while Harrison Butker made field goals from 19 and 46 yards.

Allen opened the scoring with a 23-yard TD pass to Dalton Kincaid — the seventh time Buffalo has scored a touchdown on its opening drive this season. The quarterback also scored on a pair of 1-yard runs in an outing during which the teams traded leads twice.

After the Chiefs built a 10-7 lead on Butker’s 46-yarder 5 1/2 minutes into the second quarter, the Bills responded by scoring touchdowns on their next two possessions.

Ty Johnson capped a five-play 70-yard drive with a 3-yard run for the go-ahead score.

The Chiefs then gave up the ball on downs at Buffalo’s 40 when Cole Bishop broke up a pass attempt to Rice on fourth-and-3. Allen then marched Buffalo on a seven-play, 60-yard drive that he capped with the first of two touchdowns.

Allen’s TD run was the 78th of his career, including the playoffs, breaking the NFL record for quarterbacks he shared with Cam Newton. With his three TDs, Allen has 282 (passing and rushing), moving ahead of Mahomes for second among players before the age of 30. Allen, who turns 30 in May, now trails only Peyton Manning (288).

A 6-foot-2, forward, Taylor joined the Wildcats in the summer of 2024. She had petitioned the NCAA for a fifth year of college eligibility after starting her career at Colorado in 2021-22 where she played in only eight games for a total of 19 minutes. She then played two seasons at Missouri State (2022-24) before joining the Wildcats.

During her season in Manhattan in 2024-25, Taylor played in 36 games with 12 starts and logged 455 minutes of action (12.6 mpg). She carded 256 points (7.1 ppg) and tallied 13 games with 10 or more points while shooting a career-high 53.4 percent from the field (95-of-178). Was 66-of-83 (.795) from the foul line.&nbsp; She pulled in 167 rebounds (4.6 rpg), blocked 16 shots and pocketed 19 steals.

Taylor started her K-State career with 16 points on 5-of-8 shooting and 6-of-6 from the foul line while pulling in 11 rebounds, blocking one shot and pocketing a steal in 16 minutes off the bench against Green Bay on Nov. 4.

In the postseason, Taylor registered a personal season-high 21 points on 9-of-9 shooting, three rebounds and two blocks against West Virginia in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Championship.

In her first career NCAA Tournament appearance, she tallied eight points, four rebounds, a block and steal against Fairfield and followed that effort in the second round with 11 points, including 7-of-7 from the foul line, eight rebounds and a block against Kentucky in K-State the second round overtime win. She surpassed the career 1,000-point mark with her scoring effort against Kentucky.

Taylor, a product of Shawnee Mission, Kansas, was a decorated player at Missouri State for the last two seasons. During her time with the Lady Bears, Taylor saw action in 65 games with 41 starts and tallied 749 points (11.5 ppg) including 43 games in double figures. She registered a field goal percentage of .509 (296-582) from the field and was .616 from the foul line (157-255). Taylor hauled in 505 rebounds (7.8 rpg), dished out 81 assists (1.2 apg), blocked 36 shots (0.6 bpg), pocketed 50 steals (0.8 spg) and registered 19 double-doubles.

In the 2023-24 season, Taylor was named the 2024 Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Sixth Player of the Year and a 2024 All-MVC Third Team recipient by averaging 10.7 points on a .502 field goal percentage. She also pulled down 7.1 rebounds per game. Taylor’s top effort for the season came against Drake in the 2024 Missouri Valley Conference championship game, as she notched a season-high 22 points and pulled in 11 rebounds.

In her first season at Missouri State in the 2022-23 season, Taylor was named to the 2023 All-MVC Third Team and a 2023 MVC All-Newcomer Team by averaging 12.3 points on a .515 field goal percentage, while pulling in 8.5 rebounds. Taylor ranked 13th nationally and first in the MVC with 4.0 offensive boards per game. She ranked 71st in the nation for total rebounds (272) and 76th in rebounds per game.

Taylor’s top performance in the 2022-23 season came against UIC on February 4, as she dropped a career-high 25 points, dished out a career-high six assists, while matching her career high with 15 rebounds. Her 25-point, 15-rebound, 6-assist game versus the Flames was the first by an MVC player since 2010 and she was one of just two NCAA Division I players to post that stat line in the 2022-23 season.

K-State’s Taylor Waiver Denied by NCAA

Regardless of state, sport, or classification, 20 state championships is a feat that few programs in the country can even fathom.

On Saturday, the Southeast of Saline boys helped etch that feat into the history books in Lawrence, winning their ninth state cross country title, and the 20th overall for the program.

“Every state title is special, I don’t take any of these for granted,” SES head cross country coach Wade Caselman said. These aren’t easy to come by, year to year you never know what kind of kids you’ll have out and injury and illness can play a role as well, you just never know.”

With 57 points, the Trojans fought off their fated rivals in Wichita Trinity to emerge atop a field of 12 teams and win their first boys state championship since 2020.

Brayden Walker narrowly missed out on adding an individual title to an already stellar day, taking second place with a blazing time of 15:49.92.

Amidst the thrill of victory comes a sigh of relief, as Southeast snaps a streak of four-consecutive state runner up finishes.

“A lot of these kids have been so close for so long,” Caselman said. “To see the excitement on their faces when I told them that they’d be back on the top step was so amazing to see. They’ve worked hard to get here and they put in so much time and so many miles to achieve this, I’m so proud of them.”

This was a true team effort, as the entire Trojan lineup finished inside the top 25, with Jacob Bircher (17th), Zachary Carlin (20th), Edgar Calzada (22nd), and Brooks Carlin (25th) all posting strong times.

On the girls’ side, Piper Brown added another top-five finish with a time of 19:57.72 in her run as an individual.

“Piper placed fifth at regionals the week before so for her to also take fifth at state exceeded a lot of expectations,” he said. “We knew the talent was there and she had a great performance on Saturday.”

Brown joined Walker, Bircher, and Carlin in receiving all-state honors on a day that saw Southeast move into a tie with Bishop Miege for the fifth-most state cross country titles in Kansas history.

This also marks a monumental day for head cross country coach Wade Caselman, who has now overseen 10 of Southeast’s 20 state titles, coaching the girls to wins in 2014, 15, 20, 21, 22, and 23, and the boys to wins in 2018, 19, 20, and 25.

“Southeast of Saline has been known for cross country for a long time and it’s really neat to know that this program can be here every year,” Caselman said. “In all my years of coaching in 23 years I’ve always had at least one full team competing at state and we’ve been blessed to have both teams competing at times.”

That sentiment has been echoed throughout the administration at Southeast of Saline as the titles keep on coming.

“Coach Caselman has built one of the most dominant Cross Country programs in the State,” SES athletic director Doug Minneman said. “He has done that through building relationships with his runners, having high expectations and instilling a desire to always perform at their best. Through all of this, the moment is never to big, and his teams always compete at their best highest level on the biggest stage.”

👟 SES cross country claims 20th state title in program history

WICHITA - <a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/a511253d-4bf2-4da5-b781-3e803ba6b439?elinkdata=31963">D'Heaven Domena</a> and <a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/47153d17-13fb-451f-b6bc-b26246d5aa30?elinkdata=31963">Rhadarious Lomax-Spivey</a> each had monstrous games, but Kansas Wesleyan couldn't keep pace with Friends' flexbone offense.

The fourth-ranked Falcons rushed for 341 yards and six touchdowns enroute to a 63-6 Kansas Conference and Gene Bissell Division victory Saturday afternoon at Equity Bank Park.

KWU fell to 6-3 overall, 2-1 in the Bissell Division while Friends improved to 9-0 and 3-0.

Domena, a senior running back, finished the game with 191 yards rushing on 41 carries one week after he rushed for 259 yards on 40 carries against Sterling at JRI Hospitality Stadium.

Lomax-Spivey, a senior wide receiver, caught six passes for 109 yards - the longest a 35 yarder from backup quarterback <a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/3e3d3dcd-8e45-4d06-b5d8-f423fb34fadb?elinkdata=31963">Caden Middleton</a> in the fourth quarter.

The Coyotes, though, committed four turnovers - three interceptions and a fumble - and had a bad snap on a punt that gave the Falcons a first down at the 1-yard line and led to their third touchdown in the first quarter.

Falcons senior quarterback K'Vonte Baker had 118 yards rushing on 11 attempts and completed both of his passes for 111 yards and two touchdowns. Three running backs had at least 44 yards rushing and a touchdown each.

🏀 Taylor gets first coaching victory as Women’s Basketball routs William Penn 71-45

There was a lot to be proud of for Kansas Wesleyan Men's Soccer on Saturday night at JRI Hospitality Stadium at the Graves Family Sports Complex.

The Coyotes celebrated the 2025 seniors and secured the No. 3 seed in the KCAC Men's Soccer Tournament thanks to a 7-0 win over the Avila University Eagles.

KWU will host Tabor College on Tuesday at JRI Stadium in the KCAC quarterfinals.

Wesleyan wrapped the regular season the same way it started with a 7-0 count. KWU opened the year with a 7-0 win over Central Christian College of the Bible back on August 23.

Just like in the season opener, <a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/1f2f9c05-0b7a-478d-99a2-8d5ded3d9e09?elinkdata=32099">Mateo Hoyos</a> had a big night for the Coyotes against Avila. He recorded a hat trick for the Coyotes in the win.

Wesleyan's first goal came in the seventh minute by <a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/202bae0a-ba84-4a7c-a40c-c010db3df991?elinkdata=32099">Noel Zimbeva</a>.

After a brief break with no goals, the Coyotes got back to work again. Hoyos netted his first in the 28th minute, and just over a minute later, <a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/befb3448-4adf-4260-80f2-653f83169946?elinkdata=32099">Seth Flores</a> scored to make it 3-0.

<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/a29ff86e-a1cf-4380-a7e0-d43d52729cfe?elinkdata=32099">Skyler Denny</a> was next for the Coyotes with a 67th minute goal assisted by <a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/710a7785-c58a-42db-a13b-841d2cfa5804?elinkdata=32099">Juan Manuel Lozada Leon</a>.

Then it was back-to-back goals for Hoyos for the Coyotes to complete his hat trick.

Kansas Wesleyan Women's Soccer ended the regular season with a 2-0 shutout victory over the Avila University Eagles on Saturday at JRI Hospitality Stadium at the Graves Family Sports Complex.

The victory locks the Coyotes in as the No. 3 seed in the KCAC Women's Soccer Tournament which begins on Wednesday with quarterfinal match-ups at the home site of the higher seeded team.

KWU will host Saint Mary on Wednesday at JRI Stadium. Kickoff time will be finalized by Monday at the latest.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kansas Wesleyan Women's Volleyball cruised to a sweep of the Avila Eagles in the Coyotes' final road trip of the 2025 regular season on Saturday.

Wesleyan came away with a 25-10, 25-19, 25-17 win over the Eagles at Mabee Fieldhouse.

The Coyotes dominated in the final stat sheet report, scoring 56 offensive points, compared to 29 for Avila, and had more than twice as many kills as the Eagles - 45-22 in the match.

KWU sped out to an 8-2 lead in the first set and never looked back. It was 13-9 Coyotes when KWU went on a 4-0 run to make it 17-9. After Avila scored a point, it was all KWU the rest of the way. KWU scored the final eight points of the set for a 25-10 win.

Avila had a 7-4 lead in the second set, but the Coyotes outscored the Eagles 7-2 over the next nine points to take an 11-9 lead. Avila grabbed the lead again at 13-11, but a 5-1 run from the Coyotes gave KWU a 17-15 lead. The Eagles came back and tied it at 18, but the Coyotes scored the next six, all on kills, to make it 24-18. Avila got a point before the Coyotes closed out the set with a 25-19 win.

The Eagles led 4-1 in the third, but again the Coyotes rallied with an 8-2 run that gave KWU a 9-6 lead. LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Jalon Daniels led four second-half touchdown drives as Kansas overcame a sluggish first half to trounce Oklahoma State 38-21 on Saturday. Kansas (5-4, 3-3 Big 12) snapped a two-game losing streak.

“We (only) had 10 points (in the first half), but we scored on both possessions,” Kansas coach Lance Leipold said. “We just didn’t get off the field. It was a very fast first half.

"I think we established a little better running game in the second half, that gave us the balance that we needed.”

Daniels said it was just a matter of sticking with the game plan, and a fierce effort by the offensive line.

“Hats off to big old offensive linemen,” Daniels said. “They played a pivotal role in today’s game. Then the running backs doing everything that they can to gain every single inch, every single yard. And I think that just goes to show the resilience of our team.”

Zane Flores was 22-of-28 passing for 235 yards and two touchdowns for Oklahoma State (1-8, 0-6 Big 12), which lost its eighth straight game and 15th straight Big 12 game.

“It’s hard to pinpoint a moment when it went bad,” Oklahoma State interim coach Doug Meacham said. “It could be the field goal block (at the end of the first half). We could have gone in with some momentum. It’s just that fine of a line.

“What we have to do a better job of is when things don’t go the way we want them to, we have to put them to bed.”

Kansas took the second-half kickoff and went 75 yards in 10 plays to open up a two-score lead. Daniels hit Boden Groen in the back of the end zone for a 3-yard touchdown.

After an OSU three-and-out, Daniels found Bryson Canty for a 5-yard touchdown pass and a 24-7 lead. A Flores-to-Gavin Freeman’s 10-yard touchdown pass drew the Cowboys within 24-14, but Kansas answered with 3-yard and 5-yard touchdown runs by Daniel Hishaw Jr. and Leshon Williams, respectively.

Daniels handed the ball to Williams on the last 10 plays on the drive.

“I don’t remember the last time that I’ve done that,” Daniels said. “But the more and more I got every single play call, I’m like, ‘Okay, let’s go.’

Oklahoma State went 75 yards on 10 plays on the opening drive, taking a 7-0 lead on a Flores 12-yard pass to Shamar Rigby. Kansas responded with a 13-play drive, but stalled in the red zone, settling for a 39-yard Laith Marjan field goal.

OSU then held the ball for 14 plays on its next possession, but missed a 44-yard field goal attempt, giving the ball — and the momentum — back to Kansas. Kansas marched 73 yards in 15 plays for the go-ahead score. Hishaw bounced off a couple of defenders before scampering in from the 3-yard line.

OSU’s 19-yard field goal attempt was blocked to end the half.

Oklahoma State: The Cowboys struggled in all three phases, including missing two makeable field goals.

Kansas: The Jayhawks can still reach a bowl. They need one victory in their next three games: at Arizona and Iowa State and against Utah.

Oklahoma State hosts Kansas State Nov. 15.

Kansas will travel to face Arizona on Saturday.

🏈 Kansas uses second-half surge to pull away from Oklahoma State

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — Behren Morton threw for 249 yards and two touchdowns in his return from an injury, J'Koby Williams ran for 135 yards and a score, and No. 13 Texas Tech romped past sloppy, mistake-prone Kansas State 43-20 on Saturday.

Cameron Dickey also had a touchdown run for the Red Raiders (8-1, 5-1 Big 12), who forced five turnovers while snapping an eight-game losing streak against the Wildcats (4-5, 3-3) with their first win in Manhattan since the 2008 season.

“That was a huge win,” said Texas Tech coach Joey McGuire, who arrived for his postgame news conference wearing a T-shirt with a photo of former Kansas State linebacker-turned-Red Raiders athletic director Kirby Hocutt across the front of it.

“This is no disrespect to K-State,” McGuire said. “It's a tip of my hat to my AD who played linebacker here, and it's been a long time since we beat Kansas State. ... I know it was a big win for him and a huge win for this team.”

Texas Tech is off to its best start in conference play since that year, when Mike Leach guided the team to the Cotton Bowl.

“Winning the turnover battle is a huge thing for us," said Texas Tech linebacker Jacob Rodriguez, the preseason Big 12 defensive player of the year, who forced two of the fumbles. "And we knew we had to do that to win.”

Avery Johnson threw for 199 yards and a touchdown while running for 86 and two more scores. But Kansas State's quarterback also threw two interceptions and was responsible for a late fumble that Texas Tech returned for a touchdown.

Along with the slew of turnovers, the Wildcats also were 0 for 4 on fourth down.

“I thought our guys battled on defense,” Kansas State coach Chris Klieman said. "We just didn’t have enough.”

Morton, who had been out of the lineup with a leg injury, opened the game with an interception of his own. But Johnson threw a pick right back, and it was the beginning of a messy first half in which both failed on fourth down, Kansas State lost a fumble and Texas Tech nearly did the same.

The Red Raiders eventually made Kansas State pay for its mistakes, though.

They turned a fumble by Jayce Brown into a touchdown to take a 9-7 lead. They turned a three-and-out late in the first half into a 55-yard field goal. And they turned another fumble, this time from Garrett Oakley on the fourth play of the second half, into a 41-yard run by Williams that silenced the crowd and gave Texas Tech a 19-7 lead.

“Some things happened that absolutely can’t happen when you play a team like that,” Klieman said.

Johnson tried to answer with his second TD run for Kansas State, but Texas Tech's offense kept on going. Stone Harrington drilled another field goal and Caleb Douglas hauled in a short touchdown throw to make it 29-14 heading into the fourth quarter.

Texas Tech's defense took care of the rest.

After the Wildcats scored with 12:44 to go, the Red Raiders stopped the 2-point try to keep it a two-score game. Later in the quarter, they stuffed Johnson for a loss on fourth down near midfield. And when the Texas Tech offense fumbled the ball right back, the Red Raiders again stopped the Wildcats on fourth down with less than 6 minutes to go.

Texas Tech linebacker John Curry returned Johnson's fumble for a touchdown with 4:52 left to put the game away.

“I’m really, really proud of the way we handled adversity today," Morton said. “We got down and we fought back.”

Texas Tech hardly played a clean game — the turnovers hurt, as did some penalties. But with Morton back under center, the Red Raiders were able to overcome them against a team that was coming off an emotional win over rival Kansas.

Kansas State simply made too many mistakes, and not just the turnovers and penalties. Brown and Oakley dropped passes at key points in the game, the latter when the Wildcats turned it over on downs late in the fourth quarter.

Texas Tech returns home to play No. 10 BYU next Saturday.

Kansas State is off before visiting Oklahoma State on Nov. 15.

But with Morton back under center, the Red Raiders were able to overcome them against a team that was coming off an emotional win over rival Kansas.Kansas State simply made too many mistakes, and not just the turnovers and penalties. 🏈 Texas Tech takes advantage of turnovers to beat K-State 

The Coyotes are on the road for a Kansas Conference and Gene Bissell Division game against the fourth-ranked Friends Falcons.

Friends won last year's game 28-26 in Wichita after KWU had won the previous nine contests dating back to 2015. The Coyotes are 16-8 against the Falcons since 2001.

"I think playing within the system has helped (Domena) big time. He's done what's been asked of him. We're pretty meticulous on how we do certain things, and I think that's the difference that you've seen. He's a good back; there's no question about that.

"End of the day it's about players and you've got to fit what you have. If you don't have a bunch of man press cornerbacks and guys that get in people's face you have to do other things. I think (defensive coordinator David) Leonard and his staff have done a good job of mixing that stuff up.

"It's just how physical (the Friends offense) is. If you miss a tackle or you miss a read, a three-yard gain can turn into an 88-yard touchdown. The other thing is not many people run (the option) anymore so it's really hard to prepare for it in a short amount of time.

"(Baker) is special and they're really good up front. I think they're good offensively and defensively they create constant havoc and chaos and play really well too."

"(The linebacking corps) gives tremendous effort week in and week out and they support me as well. We feed off each other. When they make plays, it makes me want to make a play and vice versa.

"(The defensive backs) make my job way easier. I don't have to focus on the back that much because I know those guys have the pass game locked down. They allow me and the guys in front of me and the guys next to me to play the run and make sure we're doing our job. (The line) is doing a great job too. I haven't had an offensive lineman in my face in eight weeks so they're making my job easier too.

"I think our confidence level is pretty high. Those (next three) teams are really talented, and I think that we have a really talented team as well. We have to be fully dialed in like we have been in these past few weeks. Just buy into what the coaches are telling us to do, watching film and really preparing for these games."

<a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/96d7c922-1deb-4d1f-bc76-511a2ac28363?elinkdata=31861">Harper Taylor</a>'s first game as head coach of the Kansas Wesleyan women's basketball team was a mixed bag.Dakota State, the fourth-ranked team in the NAIA, defeated the Coyotes 81-61 in the Coyote Classic on Friday night inside Mabee Arena but Taylor saw plenty to like.KWU trailed 35-30 at halftime and 56-53 after three quarters before DSU's size, depth and full court pressure took a toll.Taylor's starting lineup Friday featured no returning starters from last season compared to the Trojans who returned four starters - one being Tabor Teel the North Star Conference Player of the Year and a second team All-American - from a team that finished 25-5 record and won a game in the NAIA National Championship."I'm really proud of how the first three quarters went, I wish we could have ended the game at the third quarter," said Taylor who came to KWU after spending the last two seasons as an assistant at Metro State-Denver. "I just know that we've got a young group, and we've got to be able to play and put together four quarters."Wesleyan fell behind 20-7 in the first quarter but closed on a 12-2 run and trailed 22-19 entering the second period. The game remained close until halftime.The Coyotes never led but pulled even twice in the third quarter at 46-46 and 48-48. They trailed 58-55 with 8:44 left in the game after an <a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/fe5a112c-b944-438f-8195-7fb0e4c6a8db?elinkdata=31861">Izzy McCool</a> basket but Dakota State scored the next 17 points and led 75-55 with 2:04 remaining."I am pleased, but I'm not complacent by any means," Taylor said. "I know that if we're going to be a top contender in the (Kansas Conference) we have to be able to take care of the ball. We have a limited number of people that can really bring it up court right now and we've got to be able to overcome that challenge. It was great to see the girls be able to compete, but I still think that we've got a long way to go."McCool, a transfer from Dordt, scored a team-best 14 points on 6 of 11 shooting and had six rebounds. Point guard <a href="http://kwucoyotes.com/services/go.ashx/1c32f7a8-c18f-48c9-abd3-20080e299299?elinkdata=31861">Odessa Ozuna</a>, KWU's top reserve a year ago, had 11 points, seven assists and five rebounds while playing 36 minutes. "I know that we're learning an entirely new press break with this group, and they were able to hold it together for three quarters. When they got tired is when there were breakdowns."Taylor had no qualms with her team's energy and intensity."They played really hard," she said. "There were a couple moments where I could just see that dogfight in them going after 50-50 balls. Like I said if we want to be a top contender in the KCAC we're going to have to have that all year long."Teel finished with 27 points and eight rebounds and Cierra Watkins had 15 points and 10 rebounds for DSU.
