FRISCO, Texas — The Wichita Wind Surge (25-26) fell 12-8 to the Frisco RoughRiders (25-26) in the finale of a six-game series Sunday night at Riders Field despite a three-hit, three-RBI performance from Graham Brown.
Brown paced the offense, smashing his second home run of the season, a three-run shot that gave the Surge an early lead in the second inning. Brown also recorded his first multi-hit game at the Double-A level on his way to a career-high three hits. Brandon Winokur and Jaime Ferrer recorded multi-hit performances, while Jake Rucker extended his on-base streak to 23 games in the loss. Caden Kendle went deep as well, his ninth homer of the season and second in as many games. On the mound, Spencer Bengard was strong in relief, notching his 12th scoreless appearance of the season.
THE RUNDOWN
Frisco struck first in the bottom of the first, getting a leadoff walk to third base on a pair of Wind Surge errors before scoring a run on a sacrifice fly.
The Surge answered in the top of the second, drawing a pair of walks before Brown smashed a three-run homer, his second of the season, to give Wichita a 3-1 lead.
Wichita added to its lead in the top of the third with an RBI groundout, but the RoughRiders responded with three runs in the bottom half to tie the game at 4-4.
Frisco took the lead in the bottom of the fourth, using four hits to plate a pair and take a 6-4 advantage.
The Wind Surge tied the game in the top of the sixth, using an RBI groundout and an RBI double to plate two runs. Frisco answered in the bottom half with a solo homer and a pair of RBI doubles to regain the lead, 9-6.
The RoughRiders added three insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth, using two RBI singles and a wild pitch to extend their lead to 12-6.
Kendle did homer in the ninth but the Wind Surge could not mount a comeback from there, falling 12-8 in the series finale.
