He was a 1968 graduate of Notre Dame High School, Concordia, Kansas. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Joseph worked as a Fiber Optic Technician and Special Circuits for South Western Bell Telephone Company.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He enjoyed woodworking and quilting. He is survived by his brother, David (Vicki) Demars, Concordia; and a sister, Tammy (Roger) Maher, Abilene; his nephews, Jason Demars (Nicki, Abilene; Curtis Demars (Emily, Salina; Scott Demars, Glasco; a niece Debbie Sterrett (Damon, Concordia; and many great nieces and nephews and companion dog, Angel. He was preceded in death by his parents, Merle and Adele. Dick was born September 17, 1944, in Manhattan, KS to Fran and Vivian Schneiders.&nbsp; He graduated in 1962 from Lucky High School in Manhattan, KS, and in 1973 from KSU with degrees in accounting and computer science.&nbsp; From 1965 to 1969 he served in the USAF special services as a Chinese linguist. + During his career as an accountant, he worked for Kennedy &amp; Co, and Wilson &amp; Co, both of Salina, KS. Dick pursued many passions during his life.&nbsp;He was a member of the Salina Table Tennis Club, the Salina Wheelmen bicycling club, and had competed at nationals with a Salina tennis team and at K-State in straight pool competitions.&nbsp; He loved sports cars, chess, and playing finger-style jazz guitar and ukulele, but most of all he loved listening to music of all forms. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Audrey K. Rebecca E Rothrock, 92, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 1:55 a.m., Thursday, November 21st, 2019 peacefully, at Cedars Health Care Center, McPherson, Kansas. Arrangements are pending Rebecca Ellen Rothrock was born in Davenport, Iowa, to Robert and Minnie Ethel (Long) Spear on December 7, 1926. She was one of three children born to this union, two sons and one daughter, Virgil, Wilmer also known as "Willie" and Rebecca. The family moved soon after her birth to Cedar Rapids, Iowa where she attended the elementary schools and graduated from High School. She then attended and graduated from McPherson College in 1948 with a degree in Home Economics. Rebecca Spear was united in marriage to Dayton G. Rothrock on June 2, 1948, at the Cedars Rapids, Iowa, Church of the Brethren. This union was blessed with the birth of three sons, Terry, Craig, and LaMonte. Rebecca followed and supported Dayton with his work and continued education at the University of Colrado, and University of Nebraska, prior to moving to McPherson in 1957. While in McPherson Rebecca continued her support with Daytons work at Stanford, Arizona State, Cheltenham England. The family transferred their membership to the McPherson Church of the Brethren where Rebecca played piano, organ, directed youth choir, and sang in the church choir for over 40 years. Through the years Rebecca taught music, home economics, was a piano teacher and a homemaker. She was a great homemaker and the family never came home where there was not something baking or items processed from all the fruits and vegetables from their garden. She was very proud of her sons and always wanted the best for them. She was especially fond of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren always looking forward to their visits and times they would share together. She was preceded in death by her parents, Minnie and Robert Spear; her husband Dayton; and her brothers, Virgil and Willie Spear; and was the last in her generation on both sides of the family. Surviving family members include her three sons, Terry Rothrock and his wife Chinlee of Idyllwild, California, Craig Rothrock and wife Pam of Fayetteville, Arkansas, and LaMonte Rothrock and wife Brenda, of McPherson; four grandsons; three great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.The memorial service will be held at the McPherson Church of the Brethren on Friday, December 20, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverends Kathryn and Chris Whitacre officiating.The final resting place will be at the McPherson Cemetery, McPherson, Kansas.Memorials are suggested to the Cedars Transportation Challenge in memory of Rebecca. He was born on December 3, 1929 in Texas County, OK, the son of Roy and Cora (Hobbs) Linder. Orival was raised in western Kansas, spending time in Tribune, Nashville, Langdon and Turon. After graduating from Turon High School, he attended Hutchinson Junior College where he played football and basketball. Orival married Jean Riggs on December 16, 1951. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. Following the war, Orival attended Kansas State University, earning degrees in Agronomy, Biological Science and Veterinary Medicine. While attending KSU, he officiated high school football and basketball games. In 1960, Orival purchased Dr Hull’s veterinary practice and moved his family to Clay Center. Through his small and large animal veterinary practice, Orival donated his time and care for the animals at the Clay Center zoo and for animals shown by children in 4-H county fairs. Orival retired from his veterinary practice in 1989 and served fifteen years as a veterinarian for the USDA. He was a member of the Clay Center Christian Church where he served as an elder, member of the USD #379 school board, American Veterinary Medicine Association, NARFE, KSU Alumni Association and the Clay Center BPOE. Orival enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf and gardening in his free time. He was preceded in death by his parents and 10 brothers and sisters. Dean was a 1953 graduate of Concordia High School. He married Diane E. Walden and they were united in marriage for 65 years.&nbsp;She preceded him in death on May 8, 2019. Dean worked at Boogaarts in Concordia as a Warehouseman. Dean was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Concordia Country Club. He enjoyed golfing, KSU Sports, fishing, baseball, hunting, and most of all spending time with his family. Survivors include his, five children, Danielle Rassel (Bob, Doug Hinson (Peg, Denise Hinson, Deidra Morgan (Randall, Dana Smith (Todd, 3 sisters, Louise Regnier (Warren, Patricia Hinson, Beth Maciejewski (Mark, a brother, Gary Hinson (Pat) &amp; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Diane, parents, Elbert and Helen, a brother, Davey L. Hinson. He was born October 14, 1934 in Enterprises, Kansas the son of William Miller Sr. and Letha Nellie (Sprinkel) Miller. Growing up in rural Enterprise Bruce attended local schools and graduated from Chapman High School. After graduation he enlisted in the Marine Corps. October 17, 1960 he married Lola Johnson in Enid, Oklahoma. Most all of their married life was spent in Detroit, Kansas. He had been employed for 25 years by Schwann Enterprises Bruce was an over the road trucker for 42 years traveling through 48 states, Canada and logging over 5 million miles before retiring in 2002. Bruce was preceded in death by: wife, Lola; granddaughter, Rylee Miller; son-in-law, Ralph Calderon; 2 sisters, infant sister Seatha Miller, Lorene Smith and brother, Bill Miller; . He is survived by: 2 daughters, Brenda Calderon of Ft. Worth, Texas Lisa Forrester of Salina, Kansas; 3 sons, John (Kathy) Dobkins of Abilene, Kansas, R .Bruce (Michelle) Miller of Brookville, Kansas, Brian K. Miller of Ft. Worth, Texas; 13grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Helen Cushing of Wichita, Kansas and JoAnn McLean of Las Vegas, Nevada. The family will receive friends 2:00 - 3:00 PM Sunday December1st at the Danner Funeral Home. He was born March 7, 1953 in Great Bend, the son of Carl Wesley and Ruth (Pringle) Anderson. He was a graduate of Marion High School and had served in the US Army. He had served in law enforcement in Salina, Abilene and Peabody. He had worked at Walmart and operated Anderson Handyman Services. He married Julie Pankratz on June 28, 1985 and again on October 16, 2016. He was preceded by his parents and a daughter, Carissa Houdyshell. He is survived by his wife, Julie; sons, Justin and Brian (Skylar, both of Salina; Casey, Lindsborg, and Tommy, of Springfield, Vermont. His&nbsp;grandchildren are, Caleb, Andi Lynn, Mercedes, Tristin and Ayden. His sisters are Dona (Bill) Houltberg, Salina, Linda (Lyle) Christ, Goessel, Diane (Randy) Kahns, Lincolnville and many nieces and nephews. Berry and Grace O. (Harrell) Berry. He married Lenore Agnes Rome, Aug. 3, 1953. Leslie was Head Miller for ADM Milling Co., Salina and manager of the Salina Labor Building for many years. He was a Korean Army Veteran and enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf, and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and activities. Survivors include: &nbsp;his wife, Lenore; his sons, Larry G. Berry (Vicki) of Olathe, and Kent A. Berry of Bridgeport; sisters, Betty Hendricks of Salina, and Helen Husa of Albuquerque, N.M.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. LINDSBORG —&nbsp;Cleo M. Howard, 93, passed away, Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2019. She was born June 19, 1926, in Wetmore, to Harry and Nora (Heikes) Spicher. She married Lawrence Howard, Feb. 10, 1945, in Oakland, Calif. He passed away in 2016. Survivors include: her children, Gary Howard (Sue) of Naples, Fla, Donna Patrick (Laurel) of Marquette, and Kathy Hill (Andy) of McPherson; sister, Maxine Smith of Fulterton, Calif.; grandchildren, Kristopher Wingrove, Rebecca Evans (John, Ann Marie Hernandez, Steven Patrick (Jennifer, and Lyndsi Nelson (Richard); and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; daughter, Mary Dinkel; and sister, Rosalie Davis. Cremation was chosen. There will be no services at this time.

Cleo M. Howard

Private burial will be held in Hillcrest Cemetery, Florence.&nbsp; She was born in Cedar Point on October 19, 1921 to Graham H. and Ruth Dwelle Grimwood. She spent her childhood in Cedar Point, graduating from Cedar Point High in 1939.&nbsp;She then attended Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia, graduating in 1943.&nbsp; On January 26, 1947, she and Raymond Davidson were married at her parents' home in Cedar Point.&nbsp;Two sons were born to them, Steven and Jeffrey.&nbsp; They lived in Iola until January of 1951.&nbsp;At that time, they moved to a ranch northeast of Florence, where they lived for the next 55 years. In October of 2006 they moved into Florence.&nbsp; Eleanor taught school a total of 22 years.&nbsp;She taught business classes in the Humboldt and Florence high schools.&nbsp;She then taught English at Florence Middle School after the Florence schools were consolidated with Marion.&nbsp; She was a devout Christian and attended the Youngtown United Methodist Church from 1956 until the church closed in 2001.&nbsp;She taught Sunday School, helped with several Vacation Bible Schools, and served as the treasurer of the Sunday School.&nbsp;She and Ray then attended Cedar Point Community Church and later Florence Christian after they moved to town.&nbsp;she also served on the Florence Library Board for eight years and was treasurer of the Florence Senior Center for a number of years.&nbsp; Her hobbies included bird watching, needlework, and reading.&nbsp;She was a bird counter for the Audubon Society.&nbsp; She enjoyed living in a somewhat isolated ranch location.&nbsp;she also enjoyed the many road trips she and Ray made to Baker City, Oregon, to visit son Steve and his family during the 30 years they lived there.&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her brother Edward Grimwood.&nbsp; She is survived by her sons Steve (Judy) Davidson of Newton and Jeff (Kelley) Davidson of Eureka; grandsons Greg (Eva) of Knoxville, TN, Doug of Alva, OK, and Grant of Hays; granddaughter Meghan (Erik) Loverude of Manhattan; great-grandsons Matthew Davidson of Knoxville and Aarik Loverude of Manhattan and nephews Charlie (Pat) Grimwood of Fort Collins, CO and Tom (Nedy) Grimwood of Burns.&nbsp; ﻿Memorial contributions in her name may be directed to Samaritan's Purse or the Florence Library.&nbsp;Please sign her&nbsp;online guestbook and leave a memory of Eleanor at www.ymzfh.com.

Beth Curchy, 88, of Salina, passed away peacefully November 24, 2019. Beth was born in Emporia, Kansas, September 21, 1931 to Roe and Edith Collins. She married Joe Curchy from New Jersey on April 19, 1952. Survivors are a daughter, Debra (Matt) Mattingly of Florida, and children Miranda (Jeremy, Kurt (Nichole, David (Cindy) Curchy of Missouri, and their children Tara, Shestin (Tyler) and Abby (Cory) ; Stefani (Randy) Dreiling of Kansas, children Blake Ashley (Clint, Grant, Nate (Alexa).&nbsp;Also brother Larry (June) Collins of Emporia, children Leigh Ann, Gus and Mitch Preceding her in death were Beth’s parents, spouse, and a nephew. Beth loved smiles, hugs, telling jokes, and laughter. She shared these qualities with family, friends, and strangers. Beth enjoyed playing Bridge, having a good cup of coffee, and reading a great book.&nbsp;She attended Bethany Lutheran Church and loved participating in the church choir, and playing the bells. She also taught Sunday School. Beth was active in the Lindsborg community during her life there, and never met a stranger.&nbsp;We will miss our mom, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend. Morris Dale Heitschmidt, 95, of&nbsp;McPherson,&nbsp;Kansas, passed away&nbsp;on&nbsp;Monday, November 25, 2019&nbsp;while in the company of family, at McPherson Memorial Hospital in McPherson, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Morris was born&nbsp;on the family farm&nbsp;in&nbsp;Ellsworth County, Kansas on&nbsp;January 7, 1924, the son of Louis Carl "Lou" and Della Gustina (Droegemeier)&nbsp;Heitschmidt.&nbsp;&nbsp;Morris attended and graduated from Geneseo High School&nbsp;(class of 1942,&nbsp;Geneseo, Kansas. He then attended Salt City Business College before entering the Army.&nbsp;&nbsp;While in the Army,&nbsp;Morris met the love of his life, Mary Earl&nbsp;(Morris)&nbsp;Heitschmidt, while stationed in Longview, TX. Morris was a Staff Sergeant while in the Army during WWII and was stationed in&nbsp;Europe. After the war Morris was united in marriage to Mary on&nbsp;June 30, 1946&nbsp;in&nbsp;Longview,&nbsp;Texas. They established their first home together in&nbsp;Geneseo,&nbsp;Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Morris and Mary moved to McPherson in 1954 when he took a job with KNEX radio station, and had&nbsp;called McPherson home ever since. Morris worked several years for Reggie’s Floor Covering and Johns-Manville where he retired at age 65.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;For 65 years he has been a member of the First United Methodist Church, McPherson, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Morris had a love of music and was very active singing Barbershop both in a quartet and Chorus. He enjoyed serving his Lord and others, traveling, and spending time with family. Morris was also a long-time community volunteer for Meals on Wheels&nbsp;and the Hospital Auxiliary for over 25 years.&nbsp;He&nbsp;also enjoyed volunteering at the Save-N-Share. He was a member of the American Legion Post 24 McPherson.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;He is survived by his children, Kathryn Cavalier, of Pampa, Texas, Susan Leahy and husband Robert, of Edmond, Oklahoma, Scott Heitschmidt and wife Sally, of Hutchinson, Kansas, Jill Richards of Montgomery, Texas, and Todd Heitschmidt and wife Terri, of Abilene, Kansas; his 14 grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, and other relatives and a host of friends.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was preceded in death by his loving and&nbsp;devoted wife of over 71years, Mary Heitschmidt; parents, Lou and Della Heitschmidt; and his brother and sister, Chet Heitschmidt and Laverne Hunter.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The&nbsp;memorial&nbsp;service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at the&nbsp;First&nbsp;United&nbsp;Methodist&nbsp;Church,&nbsp;McPherson,&nbsp;Kansas, with the Reverend&nbsp;Lacy Wheeler&nbsp;officiating.&nbsp;&nbsp;Burial will be at a later date at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery, Manhattan, Kansas. Morris Dale Heitschmidt

Tonya Rae Murray, 58, of Hutchinson, KS and formerly of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 25, 2019, surrounded by family at Diversicare of Hutchinson. Tonya worked at several factory jobs and also was a certified welder. Tonya was born on August 24, 1961, in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, the daughter of Walter Eugene and Grace Lourabelle (Clark) Murray. She graduated from Centre High School in 1980. She was a member of the Kaw Tribe. Survivors include: her daughter Amber Cheesman (Matt) of McPherson, KS; grandson, Brycen Parker of McPherson, KS; sister, Linda Pontious of McPherson, KS; brothers, Vincent “Ish” Murray (Joyce) of Ada, OK and Dusty Murray of Saline, KS; and many extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Dan Murray, and son, Joshua Gepner. After graduating high school, Beulah worked for ASCS, before she started working Missouri Pacific Railroad.&nbsp;Beulah was the first woman train engineer in the central region. She married Billy Scholes on March 22, 1968.&nbsp;She retired from the railroad and continued to farm and raise cattle.&nbsp; Beulah was an avid animal lover; she loved her cats and also enjoyed flowers and hummingbirds. She came to the United States as a refugee in 1947, and finished high school in Whitewater in 1950. She graduated from Bethel Deaconess Nursing School in Newton as a registered nurse and married Roland Ensz on September 5, 1954, in Newton, Kansas.&nbsp;She was a member of the Bethel College Mennonite Church, loved reading, visiting the elderly and taking food to neighbors. Her heart was for people in need and volunteered at the homeless shelter. She had a love for music, gardening and especially her flower garden.&nbsp;Her loving family includes her sons and their wives, Quentin and Debbie Ensz of Potwin, Kansas and Daniel and Kathy Ensz of Mt. Hope, Kansas; seven grandchildren, Brian (Rebecca) Ensz, Alison (Andrew) Sagmoe, Audrey Ensz, Todd Ensz, Kevin Ensz, Collin Ensz and Sara Ensz; three great-grandchildren, Ellie Ensz, James Ensz and Natalie Sagmoe.&nbsp;She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roland in 2014; a brother, Manfred Friesen and a sister, Irma Igney. <img src="https://media.eaglewebservices.com/public/2019/11/1574811530331.png">Mary Alice Waylan, age 82, passed away on November 22, 2019.&nbsp;&nbsp;Mary Alice was born May 27, 1937 at Emporia, KS St. Mary’s Hospital and was the daughter of Leonard and Marjorie (Bitler) Rossillon.&nbsp;She was the oldest of six children.&nbsp;Mary Alice attended Victory one-room country school in the northern-most corner of the family’s pasture for seven grades and then the school consolidated into the Gridley School District where she continued her education and high school.&nbsp;Throughout her childhood Mary Alice and her siblings helped on the farm in Coffey County and prepared meals for the family.&nbsp;She spent time at her grandparent’s home where Grandma Mamie Rossillon taught her sewing and cooking skills.&nbsp;She graduated from Gridley High School in 1955 and spent the summer helping finish and moving into the new family home.&nbsp;Mary Alice attended University of Saint Mary, Leavenworth and graduated with a bachelor of science in home economics in 1959.&nbsp;She started her career in Hiawatha, KS as the Brown County home economics agent.&nbsp;She returned to college and attended Kansas State University and in 1966 received a master of science in family economics.&nbsp;She was a member of the K-State Alumni Association.&nbsp;Mary Alice worked for the National Dairy Association in Chicago, IL (1966 to 1969) and in San Antonio, TX from 1969 to 1971.&nbsp;She returned to extension work for the University of Missouri in Carthage, as a Missouri southwest area extension specialist. On October 19, 1974, Mary Alice married Clyde M. Waylan at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Carthage, MO.&nbsp;Mary Alice joined Clyde on the Waylan Ranch in Morris County near Delavan, KS where they made their home and she supported their farming operation.&nbsp;They raised one child, Ann. Mary Alice was a long time Morris County 4-H leader, club community leader, served on both the county home economics and 4-H program development committees, executive board member and secretary, and was the county 4-H foundation secretary many years.&nbsp;She received great energy from learning about children’s projects and fair entries and shared ideas of encouragement with many 4-Her’s as a judge in central Kansas county fairs.&nbsp;Mary Alice had great pride in picking flowers, displaying floral arrangements and arranging flowers in open class at the county fair, as well as designing seasonal floral themes at church. Sewing clothes for her daughter and helping with her activities, along with teaching other children how to bake and sew brought Mary Alice great enjoyment.&nbsp;Most recently, Mary Alice had joy in hearing about her grandchildren’s 4-H activities. No matter the type or size of event, Mary Alice took great pride in helping organize and prepare food for farm help, school, church, and 4-H events.&nbsp;She prepared meals for many cowboys and served a large noon meal every summer day followed by afternoon sandwiches and cookies in the field.&nbsp;Many memories were made with Mary Alice around the dining table enjoying her excellent cooking and conversation. Mary Alice was baptized, received first communion and confirmed at St. Xavier Catholic Church, Burlington, KS.&nbsp;She was a faithful parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Herington, where she served on the Altar Society, attended St. Anne Circle, taught CCD, and helped serve funeral lunches, as well as, attended diocese meetings. Mary Alice was preceded in death by her parents, husband Clyde, brother Jim Rossillon, brother-in-law Jake Melchior, and sister-in-law Nelah Harris.&nbsp;She is survived by her three sisters, Carolyn Melchior of Overland Park, Nancy and Sil Meier of Topeka, and Ruth and Steve Johnson, Florence, Oregon and one brother Dan and Dea Rossillon, Ponca City, OK; sister-in-law Mary Elizabeth Rossillon, Gridley; and one daughter Ann and Chris Brackenridge and grandchildren Cora and Carson of Benton.&nbsp;Along with 18 nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews. Heym and Julana (Millward) Heym, was born, June 26, 1926 in Cleveland, Ohio and passed away on November 21, 2019 at Republic County Hospital, Belleville, KS at the age of 93 years, 4 months, and 26 days.Donna attended schools in Ohio and Michigan, later graduating from high school in Port Huron, Michigan.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;From 1945 until 1949, she worked in Washington, DC as a Naval Ship Biographer, writing the histories of naval ships.From 1966 until 1970, she owned and operated a ceramic shop:&nbsp;Donna’s Pot Shop, Seattle, Washington.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;From 1952 until 1990 she worked for the Veteran’s Administration in Seattle as an office supervisor.&nbsp;&nbsp;She retired in 1990, and then wrote short stories for the Looking Ahead Paper, in Sequim, Washington.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;On April 1, 1963, she was united in marriage to William Lon Stark.&nbsp;In recent years, the couple made their home in Belleville KS.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;He preceded her in death on February 1, 2015.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Donna was a member of the American Legion, Concordia, KS; the VFW in Sequim, Washington, and a member of the Writing Club in Sequim.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Donna also was an avid bowler and bowled for 40 years.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, William Lon Stark in 2015; son, Richard Saltmarsh;&nbsp;daughter, Janice Sheridan; two brothers, Wally Heym and Dale Heym.Donna is survived her daughter, Gail (Larry) Baxa of Belleville, KS; step-daughter, Janice (Stark) McCall of Everett, Washington; 15 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren, and 9 great great grandchildren; other relatives, and friends.Cremation was selected and a memorial gathering will be held on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The family will greet friends from 6 PM until 8 PM with Kathleen Marsicek conducting a short memorial service and sharing of memories at 7 PM.Donna’s cremains will be scattered in the Pacific Ocean Strait of Juan de Fuca near the US Coast Guard Station, Port Angeles, Washington by the US Coast Guard at a later date.Memorials are suggested to the Republic County Hospital.Online condolences at www.bachelor-surber.com.Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, KS in charge of arrangements.

Donna M. Stark

LeRoy James Funk died Nov. 24, 2019, at Bethesda Home in Goessel, Kan. He was born Aug. 13, 1928, in Kansas City, Mo., and adopted by Ferdinand and Agnes Funk when he was 3 months old. His early years were spent in Newton. The family moved to a farm south of Goessel when he was 5 years old.&nbsp; LeRoy was baptized at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church on May 28, 1944. He married Alice Goerzen on March 16, 1948, at Tabor Mennonite Church, where he became a lifelong member. They had six children: Sharon, Barbara, Denise, Darwin, Gayle and Wendy. LeRoy farmed and worked at the Newton flour mill. He then worked at the Goessel Crossroads Co-op delivering gasoline to area farmers. He eventually discontinued farming and in 1973 began working at Goessel High School as the head of maintenance. After he retired in 1993, he and Alice enjoyed many trips to Branson, Mo. As LeRoy’s family grew, he cherished each son-in-law, daughter-in-law, grandchild and great-grandchild. From hunting and fishing with the boys, fixing or repairing things, attending school music and sports events and babysitting for grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he showed his love for his family in many ways. If anything at their homes needed to be fixed, it had to be taken care of right away.&nbsp; In 2013 LeRoy and Alice moved into a Bethesda Home duplex in Goessel. He lived there until August 2017, when he moved to Bethesda Home after suffering an infection in both knees that took away his mobility and left him in chronic pain. LeRoy and Alice celebrated their 70th&nbsp;wedding anniversary in 2018. After Alice’s death in July 2019 from a stroke, LeRoy started declining. He set a good example to his family of a Christian husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He always had a positive attitude, caring spirit, and generous heart. LeRoy is survived by his six children, Sharon (Duane) Adrian of Goessel, Barbara (Keith) Banman of rural Canton, Denise (Elton) Nickel of Goessel, Darwin (Kimberly) Funk of rural Canton, Gayle Funk (Brian Voth) of rural Newton and Wendy (Paul) Schrag of Newton; 17 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; sister Darlene McVey; step-siblings Ralph (Lois) Janzen, Gerald (Judy) Janzen and Mary (Augustin) Rodriguez; sister-in-law Thelma Goerzen; and many nieces and nephews who were very dear to him. Preceding him in death were his parents, Ferdinand and Agnes Funk; stepfather George Janzen; and wife Alice Funk. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29, at Tabor Mennonite Church. LeRoy James Funk

Woodard Monroe Hughbanks, 90, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 24, 2019, surrounded by family at McPherson Hospital. Monroe was born December 20, 1928, to James Frank Hughbanks and Vivian Esther (Hunt) Hughbanks in a farm home west of Anthony. His early education was in country schools through 8th grade, then on to Attica High School, graduating in 1947. Monroe attended K-State for one semester and then transferred to Asbury College (a new university) in Kentucky to prepare for Christian ministry and teaching. He graduated in 1952. In 1948, he married Corinne Neubauer and took her back to Asbury with him where she graduated in 1953. Monroe pastored a three-point charge for the Methodist and taught country school while Corinne finished her degree. Together, they served in mission work for eight years in McAllen, Texas and Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico. In 1961, they returned to the USA and began teaching in the Buhler school district, Monroe in east Hutchinson and Corinne in Buhler. Then in 1964, he was offered a teaching position at McPherson College. By then, he had completed his Master’s at Emporia. This turned out to be a 29 year position. Sabbatical leaves at the college helped both of them finish their doctorates, he in 1971 and she in 1980. During this time, they sponsored two Guatemalan boys (brothers) to Asbury College; Otto Solorzano in 1978 and Aroldo Solorzano in 1980. They became a part of the family and both graduated and earned scholarships to complete their Master’s degrees. Other sabbaticals found them teaching at the Universidad Evangelica Boliviana in 1987. This allowed them to visit Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay. Summers allowed them to be very active in mission work with Teen Missions International on work teams. Monroe was head leader for teams going to Finland, Bolivia, and Poland. Interterms at McPherson College also gave them opportunities to travel with student groups, specifically to Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, and New Mexico. One interterm at McPherson College, he worked with Habitat for Humanity building cement block homes in Guatemalan highlands for the Mam Indians. While teaching at McPherson College, Monroe also pastored the Monitor Church of the Brethren. For 22 years, he served as an “interim pastor” and loved those parishioners very much. He felt he was greatly blessed by those farm families and learned much from them. Upon retiring from McPherson College in 1993, Monroe served as bookkeeper for the Brethren Colleges Abroad program in Barcelona, Spain while Corinne was assistant director. This year-long experience gave them many opportunities to visit multiple countries in Europe. All together, they have visited 34 different countries in the Western Hemisphere and Europe, plus Israel. Upon returning from Spain, Prudent Tours hired them as tour directors, basically in the USA and Canada. This experience gave them the opportunity to visit many provinces and states and to meet wonderful people. Monroe considered this work with Prudent a ministry. He led devotions every morning on the tour bus for the very mixed-denominational group. He led tours for eleven plus years. Finally, health concerns caused him to retire. In 1998, the Hughbanks moved to the Cedars Village where they lived for 16 years before moving to assisted living and eventually to the health care unit last year. Monroe has blessed many lives through his work and his ministry. He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Corinne; two children, Stephen B. Hughbanks (Nancy) of Wichita, KS and Melody Ann Athey (Bill) of Park City, KS; his siblings, Galen (Bonnie, James (Donna, Harold (Gerry, Tipton (Anita, Karen Smith (Dave, Sandra Kurt (Bob, and Teresa Whitney (Jerry); six grandchildren, Staci Dean (Billy, Stephanie Warner (Mike, Bryce Hughbanks (Ashleigh, Ben French (Jenny, Jonathan French (Amanda, and Tyler French (Kelly); 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Vincent M. Hughbanks, and three siblings, Beverly Hurley, Roger Hughbanks, and Fineas Hughbanks. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, November 29, 2019, at McPherson Free Methodist Church with Rev. Tom Griffith and Rev. David Kessler officiating. He was born in Abilene, Kansas October 15, 1961 the son of Donald SR and Myrtle (Cameron) Simkins. Donald grew up in the Abilene area and attended the local schools. Don is survived by his sister, Mary Hanback of Dallas,TX , three brothers, Robert (Rhonda) Meeks, James (Pam) Meeks all of Abilene,KS and Jay Simkins of Colorado. Four nieces, Sarah (Robert) Waters, Susan Hanback, Amber Reiff and Jamie Meeks and three nephews, Jeremy Meeks, Jake Area, and Shane Meeks all of Abilene,Ks. Charles was born in Solomon, Kansas on December 14, 1936, a son of the late Ethel (Rouse) McCain and Charles James Luck. He served in the United States Navy. Survivors include his wife, Judy (McClure) Luck; daughter, Lynn Blount and son, Kris Luck, both of Salina; and sister, Barbara Hale of Dwight, Kansas. He is also survived by grandchildren, Travis, Daniel, and Allegra; and 6 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his brother, Preston Luck; sisters Madge Kramer, Evelyn O'Shea, and Viola McIntosh. Cremation has been chosen.
