Kenneth E. Colborn, 89, passed away April 8, 2020. He was born in Medicine Lodge, KS. Ken served in the Army at Fort Hancock, NJ where he met and married Marcella Theret, before returning to Kansas. His job with IBM moved them to Salina. He spent his career servicing computer equipment throughout Kansas.

An avid outdoorsman, he frequently visited Yellowstone, Alaska, and South Padre Island, TX, passing along his fishing expertise, sense of humor, and colorful vocabulary to his daughters.

Preceded in death by his parents; six siblings; and his wife, Marcella. Ken is survived by his daughters, Denise Colborn and Cheri Johnson; grandchildren, William Johnson, Jessica Johnson, and Sarah Miller; six great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; his brothers, Donald and Jack; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Russell E. Sleek Sr., 87, of Salina, passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2020 at his home after a long illness. He was born December 7, 1932 in Moran, IN. After High School he joined the army and served honorably for twenty years. Russ is a veteran of Korea and Vietnam Wars. Russ and Doriene were married June 11, 1955.

After he retired from the service, he worked at the Epileptic Foundation in Washington D.C. and at Crestwood Cabinets in Salina. His hobbies were woodworking, stained glass and gardening. He loved RVing, he and Doriene spent many years exploring the U.S.

He is preceded in death preceded in death by his sister and parents. Russ is survived by his wife Doriene, of the home and son, Russell Sleek, Jr; grandchildren Brad and Jenna; two nephews, Chris and Todd Moudy.

Graveside service will be private at Gypsum Hill Cemetery. Celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.

Kala Ann Mason, 63, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 10, 2020, surrounded by her family at her home in McPherson. She and her husband, Les, were the former owners/operators of The Old Muffin Factory.

Kala was born on September 9, 1956, in McPherson, KS, the daughter of Vernon J. and Patricia J. (Deckert) Archer. She graduated from McPherson High School in 1974. Kala was united in marriage to Leslie R. Mason on April 3, 1976, in McPherson.

She was a member of Countryside Covenant Church.

Survivors include: her husband, Les of the home; three children, Chris Mason (Brooke) of Hutchinson, KS, Jennifer Mason of McPherson, KS, and Angela Brunk (Jesse) of McPherson, KS; her mother, Pat Archer of McPherson, KS; three brothers, Matt Archer (Kathy) of Newton, KS, Mark Archer (Terri) of McPherson, KS, and Jeff Archer (Paula) of Sheridan, AR; two grandchildren, Danica Brunk and Cole Mason; and many extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Vern Archer.

Nancy Luciene Bircher, 73, left her earthly home with her husband David by her side, and entered her heavenly home with her Savior by her side, on Wednesday, April 8, 2020.&nbsp; Nancy was born December 11, 1946 in Ellsworth to L.M. “Hank” and Helen Mar (Hysell) Herrington.

Nancy was a longtime resident of the Ellsworth and Kanopolis areas. She married David Bircher at the First Presbyterian Church in Ellsworth on August 3, 1968. &nbsp;

Nancy was a loving wife, wonderful mother, doting grandmother, valued friend, and standout community volunteer.&nbsp; On receiving the Ellsworth-Kanopolis Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year Award in 2010, it was said “Nancy is the consummate community volunteer that always works to make this community a better place for citizens while shunning the spotlight.”

Nancy was involved with the Ellsworth County Council on Aging and led efforts for the development of the Ellsworth Senior Center, involved with the Ellsworth County Food Bank, served as a founding member of the Ellsworth County Hospice, and was president of the Ellsworth County Medical Center Auxiliary.&nbsp;

Nancy was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ellsworth where she was active as an ordained deacon and elder and longtime member of the Presbyterian Women’s service committee.&nbsp; Nancy was also past president of her P.E.O. chapter, member of Willing Workers, and a former Sunday School teacher, 4-H leader, and Girl Scout leader.&nbsp;

Nancy’s servant heart also shone through during her career as a social worker.&nbsp; Nancy started in social work in 1970, and she worked for the Kansas Department of Social Rehabilitation Services and Ellsworth’s Good Samaritan Home until her retirement in 2012.&nbsp; It is fitting that Nancy worked tirelessly for so many years to keep elderly in their homes, as her last breaths were taken wrapped in her husband’s arms in her home just outside Ellsworth.&nbsp;

Nancy is survived by her husband, David of Ellsworth; daughter, Molly Aspan (Brian) of Tulsa; son, Judd Bircher (Joy) of Gypsum; grandchildren, Makenna Aspan, and Jacob and Joseph Bircher; brothers, Norman Herrington (Laurel) of Gardner and Bill Herrington (Sharon) of Wichita; sisters, Helen Tewes of Salina and Mary Jane Vondra of Geneseo; brother-in-law, Richard Bircher of Topeka; as well as numerous loved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Marilyn Obermeyer.

The family will have a private inurnment service at Ellsworth Cemetery. A public celebration of life service will be held at a later date when we can all celebrate together.

Nancy Luciene Bircher

Stephen Bruce Campbell, son of Charles Clair and Mary Evelyn Campbell was born March 15, 1944 in Cloud County.&nbsp; He crossed Heaven’s Golden Finish Line at 3:00 P.M. on Good Friday, April 10, 2020.&nbsp; Bruce was one of seven children, the youngest of four boys.&nbsp; His parents named him “Stephen” because of his mother’s love of the Bible.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Neil and Kent; sisters, Gale Smith and Marcille Cox.&nbsp; Survivors are his wife of 54 plus years, Darlene (Mercer) Campbell; daughters Rochelle (Jeff) White of Hutchinson and Denise (Mark) Brown of Olathe; brother, Kermit of Traverse City, MI; and sister, Chris (Dean) Allison of Delphos; grandchildren Bethany (Kelly) Bush of Olathe, Spenser (Billie) White of Bartlesville, OK, Whitney White of Hutchinson, Andrew Brown of Olathe, Vlad, Dominic, Preston, and Cameron White of Hutchinson; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Bruce learned his ethics of hard work, fondness of the land, and his love of horses from his father.&nbsp; He discovered his love for poetry and literature at his mother’s knee.

Bruce graduated from Miltonvale High School in 1962, and then he attended Miltonvale Wesleyan College and Friends University.&nbsp; Bruce was a dedicated athlete whose motto was “Winners give it all they’ve got BUT champions give it more!”&nbsp; At Miltonvale he lettered in football, basketball, and track (setting many records).&nbsp; Bruce was inducted into the Friends University Sports Hall of Fame as a prestigious 4-Sport Letterman:&nbsp; football, basketball, cross country and track (also setting records).&nbsp;

In college, Bruce met and married the love of his life, Darlene Mercer, a “cowgirl” from the Kansas Flint Hills.&nbsp; Bruce taught and coached in White City for three years and then at Delphos/Minneapolis until 1980.&nbsp; Bruce coached several state track winners and successful football and basketball programs.&nbsp; While teaching Drivers Education, Bruce rode with over 800 freshmen.&nbsp; He listened to and shared with his young drivers about their concerns and joys.&nbsp; His students trusted him!&nbsp; Bruce loved laughter, ever ready with a joke or humorous story, a highlight of those long drives.

After leaving education, Bruce pursued his dream of auctioneering and appraising.&nbsp; The Campbells, with Leland and Sharon Johnson, owned Bid-N-Buy Auctions and Realty for 31 years.&nbsp; Bruce wore other “hats” during his life: farmer, New York Life Agent, horse trainer, EMT, city council, and Lions Club.&nbsp; He wrote weekly articles for the Delphos Republican and the Miltonvale Record and recorded guest spots on KNCK radio.&nbsp; Bruce composed poetry; he loved to work with rhyme and meter.

Bruce never forgot his “first love” – the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.&nbsp; He lived his life as a man of God sharing with his students as he lived before them.&nbsp; Serving God was paramount to Bruce – in the church, school, community or everyday life.&nbsp; When he was 40, Bruce began to read the Bible through each and every year.&nbsp; He was a faithful member of Hall Wesleyan Church, serving also on the Kansas Wesleyan District Board of Administration.&nbsp; Bruce and Darlene loved taking people to church – the Campbell “bus” was often filled with neighbors, children, or new town people.&nbsp; It was a joy for them to attend church and share that joy with others.&nbsp; Bruce’s life can be summarized as Paul wrote in II Timothy 4:7-8, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.&nbsp; Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the Righteous Judge, will award to me on that day – and not only me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.”

Stephen Bruce Campbell

Rose Mary's life began on November 18, 1941, at home, near Odin.  She was the daughter of Eddy J. and Cecelia (Prusa) Schneweis. 

 Rose Mary is a 1959 graduate of Odin High School and attended business college. 

 She was united in marriage to Bob Neuwirth on June 3, 1961, in Odin. 

 Rose Mary was a faithful parishioner of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Pilsen.  She was the creator of the Father Emil Kapaun Guild and was very active in promoting Father Kapaun, the Kapaun Museum and telling his story through her devotion to his sacrifices. 

 Rose Mary was active in the St. Anne's Altar Society and enjoyed sewing for her family, making doll clothes and quilting. 

 Her greatest joy was her family which includes her husband Bob of Pilsen; children Duane Neuwirth of Lost Springs, Diana Stanfill of Salina, and Laurie (Jay) Brunner of Herington; grandchildren Crystal Barnett, Mitchell Neuwirth, Jason Brunner, and Josh Brunner; great-grandchildren Easton, Elijah, Ellis, and Elise Barnett; siblings Larry Schneweis, Jim (Janet) Schneweis, Laurie (Glenn) Swalley and Ellen Carlstead. 

 Rose Mary passed away on April 8, 2020, at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. 

 She is preceded in death by her parents, granddaughter Kristen Brunner, brother Leon Schneweis and sister Marie Fisher.

Rose Mary (Schneweis) Neuwirth

Jerry Higgins passed away April 6th in Marion. 

Jerry was always proud that he lived his entire life in (or very near to) Marion County. He traveled the world and saw many exciting places and had wonderful adventures but to Jerry, Marion really was the best place he’d seen. 

Jerry was a planner and organizer and liked things to be done a little bit different, and his way, so he had prepared his own obituary and in his words he would like to share…..“William Gerald (Jerry) Higgins lived most of his life near two Kansas streams, Doyle Creek and the Cottonwood. From the beginning on February 14, 1927 to the end Life Was Good. 

His first 17 years happened by Doyle Creek. After graduating from Peabody High School in 1944 he served for two years in the United States Navy. The G.I. Bill made it easy to attend Kansas University where an interest in chemistry led to his graduating as a pharmacist in 1951. 

He met Helen Hett in his dad’s Rexall drug store in Peabody that summer and they married in September. They lived in Wichita and Valley Center where Helen was the High School Home Economics teacher. 

In 1956 they brought their son, John, to Marion when they bought the Marion Rexall Pharmacy. Daughters Ann and Susan completed their family. 

The following years with family and friends went fast. Life Was Good! The fast life slowed when they sold the pharmacy in 1974 Jerry and Helen enjoyed living in Marion as their nest emptied. 

Six grandchildren arrived, filling the extended family nests. 

Not being tied to a drug store made travel easier. Two of their many adventures were golfing in Scotland and a week of white water rafting through the Grand Canyon. Life Was Good! John, Ann, and Susan were all living their own good lives. 

Everything seemed to be going well until Helen’s death in 1994. 

By 2001 he felt it was time to not renew his pharmacy license bringing 50 years as a pharmacist to a close. Then another tragic event occurred when cancer caused Ann’s death in 2001. 

His urge to travel continued. With his companion, Lynne Watts, he toured and cruised for almost 20 years. They enjoyed places like Africa and Tahiti. It was great to see different parts of the world, but also gratifying to return to the valley of the Cottonwood. 

There were many fond memories of the whole family from a great-grandmother to the amazing great-grandchildren. Being part of seven generations was fulfilling. 

His life was but a brief moment in eternity, but life to Jerry Higgins seemed like a long and winding road, and Life Was Good!”

Daniel “Dan” H. Fraser, age 80, passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2020 at his home in Concordia, KS.&nbsp; He was born on September 15, 1939 at the family home in Aurora, Kansas to Alcid and Josephine (Cote) Fraser.

Dan graduated from Aurora High School in 1957.&nbsp; He married Barbara D. Appleby on October 15, 1960 at the St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Aurora, Kansas.&nbsp; She preceded him in death on June 23, 2007.

Dan worked for the Cloud County Highway Department as a road grader.&nbsp; Earlier in his career Dan worked for Concordia Co-op where he ran a tire service truck servicing area farmers with tire repairs.

He was a past member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and Moose Lodge both of Concordia.

Dan enjoyed fishing, hunting, and watching T.V.

Dan is survived by his children, Edward Fraser, Cawker City, KS; Kevin Fraser, Concordia, KS; Michelle Jensen (Glen, Miltonvale, KS; Lynette Stuewe, Concordia, KS; 14 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 1 great grandchild on the way and 1 great-great grandchild, 3 sisters, Marlene Langevin, Eloise Pfeifer, Dolora May Schlatter, 2 brothers, Fabian and Raymond Fraser.

Dave A. Aggson, age 71, of Concordia, KS, passed away on Thursday, April 09, 2020, surrounded by his family at his home in Concordia.&nbsp; He was born on Dec. 16, 1948 in Great Bend, KS to Dareld “Babe” L. &amp; Charlene E. (Seeman) Aggson.

Dave graduated from Larned High School in 1966 and attended the University of Kansas until being drafted into the US Army where he served on the motorcycle patrol in Washington, DC.&nbsp; Dave married Denise Snyder on July 26, 1975 in Larned, KS.

Dave joined the Kansas Highway Patrol in the fall of 1974 and served as an active duty patrolman and later as a Motor Carrier Inspector full time until 2006 and retired in 2018 as a Master Trooper.

Dave was a lifetime member of the Concordia American Legion Post #76.&nbsp; He enjoyed playing slow-pitch softball, coaching Pee-Wee baseball and was an avid KU basketball &amp; KC Royals fan.&nbsp;

He is survived by his wife, Denise, Concordia; children; Eric Aggson (Tonya, Blue Springs, MO, Travis Aggson (Jenny, Manhattan, Austin Aggson (Rachael, Maize, Kiley Ramsey (Clint, Springfield, MO, Jordan Aggson (Janene, Concordia and Nickie Edgington (Josh, Pittsburg; sister, Kaye Boor (Bill, Sterling and 19 grandchildren; Pierceton, Connor, Maverick, Brooklyn, Ethan, Quinlyn, Harlie, Miranda, Addison, Cameryn, Layla, Saben, Daphne, Gunnar, Avelyn, Tuck, Ambria, Vada &amp; William.

Dave A. Aggson

Thomas John Heiswas born April 1, 1935 to Frank and Helia (Tuisku) Heis on the family farm in Frederick, South Dakota. He peacefully passed away April 8, 2020 in Salina, Kansas. He was 85 years young.

As a young boy, Tom began his education in a rural one-room school. He attended Frederick High School and graduated in 1953. He loved being part of the high school football team and was an active member of the Sod Busters 4H club where he earned many purple ribbons for his steers and hogs. As part of his 4H achievements, he showed a prize winning steer at the International Livestock Show and was also selected to attend the National 4H Club Congress in Chicago, 1955. In 1959, he took on the role as the 4H club leader. In 1959, while attending South Dakota State College (University, Brookings, SD, he earned reserve champion winner in the swine showmanship contest as part of the Little International sponsored by the college.

Attending Saturday night dances at the American Legion Hall in Aberdeen, Tom met Shirley Gill of Java in 1958. They were married June 29, 1960 and settled on the family farm by Frederick.

In 1967, Tom was awarded Outstanding Young Farmer for Brown County and the State of South Dakota for his work in soil conservation and animal husbandry. Throughout his life on the farm, Tom was active in his community, both locally and state wide. He served locally on the Frederick co-op board and the school board, held offices at the county level for the Farmers Union and NFO organizations, and was active on the political side of life. He lobbied in Pierre, SD and Washington, DC for stronger farm prices. While part of Farmers Union, his work helped repeal the South Dakota personal property tax.

In 1984, Tom opted for a career change, moved his family to Aberdeen, and began his second career as an insurance agent until he retired in 2004. During his professional time in Aberdeen, he was active in the Aberdeen Life Underwriters Association including serving as their President in 1995. He also served on the Adjustment Training Center Foundation Board, now known as Aspire. Tom also rose to the position of General Agent for the entire state of South Dakota for Royal Neighbors of America, recruiting and tutoring new young agents.

Throughout his life Tom was a lover of the outdoors. He was an avid hunter, gun collector, and shooting fan, competing in trap shooting, long range shooting, and even the long bow for a short time. Tom was a walking encyclopedia of gun and ammunition knowledge, always relishing any chance to converse on the subject. He was especially fond of long range shooting and took many trips to the western part of the state for prairie dog hunting and long range competition shooting. He once shot an inch group at 600 yards and kept the target for the rest of his life as proof of the rare feat. He was an avid member of the Aberdeen Gun Club and took on instruction of younger or novice members on firearms. Safety in use of firearms was of the utmost importance to him. During retirement he continued his shooting and gun collecting passion, but also took up wood working. He was very proud to have made two crosses for Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Aberdeen, with the larger of the two currently hanging in the church sanctuary. Tom was a faithful and loving husband and father, and at all times endeavored to be, and was a good steward in the community.

Tom’s spiritual life included being a member of Savo and St. Pauls Lutheran churches, both of Frederick, Our Savior and Holy Cross Lutheran churches of Aberdeen, and Redeemer Lutheran Church of Salina, KS.

He is survived by his wife Shirley (of 59years, their children Kristi and Jason, three grandsons Connor, Garrett, and Ethan, sister Octe, nephew Kevin, and niece Kyla.

Lois spent all her life associated with early childhood development. It was her passion in life to care for young children. She was employed by Salina Child Care for approximately 50 years.

Harriett Nadine Hill, 88, of Salina, KS, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving children on Sunday, April 5, 2020. Nadine’s life began on May 18, 1931, the daughter of Glen and Muriel (Nott) Stice in Herington, KS. She graduated from Herington High School in 1949.

Nadine worked as a bookkeeper at Continental Grain Co., a secretary at Herington High School, a sales clerk at JM McDonald Clothing store and Boelling Drug Store all in Herington. She also worked as a sales clerk at B &amp; J Drug Store in Concordia. Nadine enjoyed many hobbies including gardening, crafting as well as her love for cardinals, music and dancing. However, her biggest love was her children, grandchildren, their families, and her many friends. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Elks, Eastern Star and a lifetime member of the VFW auxiliary.

Her loving family includes her children, Dale (Rita) Hull of Herington, Kansas; Scott (Diane) Hull of Lincolnville, Kansas;&nbsp; Bruce (Diane) Hull of Lincoln, &nbsp;Nebraska; Lee Ann (Jerry) Peters of Gypsum, Kansas; Tina (Bob) Goff of Concordia, Kansas; and Phillip (Bobbie) Hill of Ord, Nebraska; Sister Carolyn Shank of Salina, Kansas; 20 Grandchildren and 15 Great-Grandchildren.

John W. Reh, 84, of Salina, died April 6, 2020. He was born July 2, 1935 at his maternal grandparents’ home in rural Saline County Kansas to Leslie and Vera (Snyder) Reh.

John graduated from Bennington High School and Kansas State University. He married Judith A. Kirkland on June 1, 1957 in Minneapolis, Kansas. He was preceded in death by Judy in 2013 and by his parents and granddaughter Devin Elizabeth Reh of Arlington, VA.

Survivors include his daughter Elaine (Jay) Edwards of Salina, two sons Jeffrey (Vickie) Reh of Arlington, VA and Kirk (Teresa) Reh of Overland Park, KS; grandchildren Allison (fiancé Ryan DuMars) Edwards of Salina, Michael (Erica) Edwards of Wichita, John Bryce (Milena) Reh of Arlington, VA; great-grandchildren Halle Reh Edwards and Tristan Aleksander Reh.

Also surviving are sisters and brothers-in-law, Maxine and Bernie Owen of Arlington, TX and Corrine and Ron Sidener of Leawood, KS; brother-in-law Jack (Sammy) Kirkland; 7 nephews and one niece.

John was extremely proud of the many accomplishments of his children, grandchildren and all of their spouses. He also took great pride in the work he did during his 35 plus years with the U.S.D.A. Soil Conservation Service followed by 15 years of consulting engineering service through his own company, REH and Associates, Inc. His body of work was recognized when he was awarded the NSPE Award by the National Society of Professional Engineers at their annual meeting in Chicago in 1992. This award is the highest honor given by NSPE to an individual and is given to an engineer who has made outstanding contributions to his or her profession, public welfare and/or humankind. In accepting the award John gave credit to Judy and his children for the support that allowed him to devote much of his time to his profession.

John enjoyed playing golf, especially with the golfing members of his family. After retirement from SCS he joined the Salina Municipal Senior Men's Golf Association and continued to play until a broken hip and complications from Parkinson's Disease forced him to quit. He often said the best part of senior golf was the many new friends he met.

Cremation has been chosen. A memorial service will be held at a later date following a private family burial service at Gypsum Hill Cemetery.

John has requested memorials to the Salina Child Care Association in lieu of flowers.

Sharolyn "Kay" Lagasse, 79, of Marquette passed away on Sunday April 5, 2020 at Park Villa Nursing Home In Clyde, KS.  Kay was born October 17, 1940 in McPherson, KS to the late Floyd H and Mabel M (Ensminger) Hulse.

Kay graduated from Marquette High School and attended nursing school at Marymount College.  Most of her career was spent as a Residential Group Manger for Multi-Community Diversified Services in McPherson, KS.  Kay was an avid Jayhawk Basketball Fan and followed them faithfully for as long as she was able to.

She is survived by her daughters, Lori Michalak (Greg) of Windham, CT and Lisa Peters (Dave) of Beloit, KS: sons, Bret Loder (Karen) of Otis, Todd Lagasse (Cheryl) of Emporia, KS and a step-son Travis Hawkinson (Marla) of McPherson, KS, Brother Eugene "Garth" Hulse of Norman, OK and a very dear friend, Ron Yowell of Hutchinson, KS. as well as 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Kay is preceded in death by her parents; sister Elverta Jean "Susie" Mitchell and a brother Gary Hulse.

Joseph Michael Ernest, 69, on Wednesday, April 1st, 2020 went home to be with his Heavenly Father.

Joseph was born in New York, New York on June 3, 1950, a son of Mary Elizabeth (Clemente) and Charles Asa Ernest.

Joe started college at Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama, the summer between the eleventh and twelfth grade and also the summer after graduating from Mobile High school. He continued on to college at William Carey where he was given a grant in the summer of 1972 to the University of Mississippi, in pharmacology. He furthered his knowledge and went to University of Southern Mississippi where he received his BS in Medical Technology with minors in math and chemistry. He was issued an honorary PhD in biological sciences for his work and accomplishments and vaccines in 1989. He also received a doctor of Naturopathy from Trinity College in Iowa at the age of 50.

Joe’s passions included nutrition, natural medicine, and helping people. He was the most selfless person and possessed many gifts and talents. He was generous, kind, and found the good in everyone. He put the needs of others above his, always. Regardless If you were family or if he just met you on the street he was going to bless you and do what he could to make your day better.&nbsp;

He was a loving father to his daughters, Maggie, Joey, Medora, and Jadaisa. He will be missed deeply by those who knew and loved him. Margaret Moser and her husband Robert, of Ward, Arkansas, Joey Fielder and her husband Kevin, of Colorado, Medora Rano and fiancé Antonio Anaya, of California and Jadaisa Ruckman, of California; his sister, Elizabeth Johnson, and husband David, of Bay Minete; his five grandchildren, Zoie and Jay Moser, Cain and Daniel Anaya, and Cali Ruckman; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Joseph worked as a Lab Tech in many hospitals over the years spread across the states as he has always enjoyed traveling. He was currently working for McPherson Hospital, McPherson, KS. Joe enjoyed planning family vacations and getting all his girls together for those special times and the food of course! His hobbies included deep sea fishing, chess, and cooking. He always had a helping hand and did what he could to encourage anyone. He had a strong relationship with God and stood firm in his beliefs. He truly touched and blessed many lives and will be greatly missed.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his twin brother, Charles Ernest, Jr.; his sister, Ethel Bretschneider; and reunited with his soulmate, Rhonda Rano.

Cremation has taken place and because of the COVID 19 Pandemic, A Celebration of Life Service will be held in McPherson once we get the all clear.

He also received a doctor of Naturopathy from Trinity College in Iowa at the age of 50.Joe’s passions included nutrition, natural medicine, and helping people. He was the most selfless person and possessed many gifts and talents. He was generous, kind, and found the good in everyone. He put the needs of others above his, always. Regardless If you were family or if he just met you on the street he was going to bless you and do what he could to make your day better.&nbsp;He was a loving father to his daughters, Maggie, Joey, Medora, and Jadaisa. He will be missed deeply by those who knew and loved him. Margaret Moser and her husband Robert, of Ward, Arkansas, Joey Fielder and her husband Kevin, of Colorado, Medora Rano and fiancé Antonio Anaya, of California and Jadaisa Ruckman, of California; his sister, Elizabeth Johnson, and husband David, of Bay Minete; his five grandchildren, Zoie and Jay Moser, Cain and Daniel Anaya, and Cali Ruckman; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.Joseph worked as a Lab Tech in many hospitals over the years spread across the states as he has always enjoyed traveling. He was currently working for McPherson Hospital, McPherson, KS. Joe enjoyed planning family vacations and getting all his girls together for those special times and the food of course! His hobbies included deep sea fishing, chess, and cooking. He always had a helping hand and did what he could to encourage anyone. He had a strong relationship with God and stood firm in his beliefs. He truly touched and blessed many lives and will be greatly missed.Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his twin brother, Charles Ernest, Jr.; his sister, Ethel Bretschneider; and reunited with his soulmate, Rhonda Rano.Cremation has taken place and because of the COVID 19 Pandemic, A Celebration of Life Service will be held in McPherson once we get the all clear.

Alyce Lou Pflughoeft, 89, passed away April 6, 2020 in Downs. She was born November 24, 1930 in Bushton to Louis and Alma Gertrude (Cook) Novotny.

Alyce married Dean Pflughoeft in Bushton on September 24, 1950. She was a longtime resident of Ellsworth where she was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 174 Auxiliary, and a former city councilwoman. She was the co-owner of Labelle Boutique and also worked as a customer service representative at Cashco, Inc.

Alyce is survived by her sons, Michael Pflughoeft (Toni) of Ellsworth and Todd Pflughoeft (Pam) of Dodge City; grandchildren, Mychel Dolezal (Adam, Taylor Scheuerman (Seth, Abigail Serpan (Brian, and Matthew Pflughoeft; great grandchildren, Mykena, Lakyn, and Case Dolezal, Solomon Scheuerman, and Clara Rose Serpan; sisters, Karen Hoffman (John) of Overland Park, Leona Barkow (Richard) of Ellsworth, Judy Long (Gordon) of Wichita, and Thelma Janssen (Kent) of Leoti; and brother, Stuart Novotny (Sherry) of Solomon. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dean; sisters, Lorrel Wagner and Jane Hill; and brother, Larry Novotny.

A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.

Janice Marie (Miller) Sahlfeld, 77 of Beloit, KS,&nbsp;entered her heavenly&nbsp;home on&nbsp;April 5, 2020.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was born on&nbsp;June 21, 1942&nbsp;in Lincoln, KS, the daughter of Robert and Katherine (Murphy) Miller&nbsp;&nbsp;

After the death of her mother, Janice was taken in by Sue and Dale Giesecke of Glasco, KS and was gifted with a second family.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;She graduated from Glasco High School in 1960 and received a degree from Brown Mackie Business College, Salina, KS.

She met the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Sahlfeld at a barn dance at the Deneke farm and they were married on&nbsp;August 12, 1961.&nbsp;&nbsp;To that union was born their daughter Kimberly Katherine.

As well as being a loving mother, wife and friend, she enjoyed working at United Air Lines and St. John’s Catholic School. Her true love was being parish secretary and bookkeeper at St. John’s Catholic Church.in Beloit.&nbsp;After her retirement she enjoyed her grandchildren who were the light of her life.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was so proud of them.&nbsp;

She is survived by her husband Bob, daughter Kimberly Sahlfeld-Bunger (Robert, grandchildren Cory, Cody, and Colby Bunger all of Whitewater, MO.&nbsp;&nbsp;Siblings:&nbsp;&nbsp;Doug Giesecke (Jackie, Gardner KS, Brad Giesecke and&nbsp;Lisa Pauls (Rick) all of Glasco, KS.&nbsp;&nbsp;Also surviving Janice are her numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, her brothers and sisters-in-law&nbsp;of the Sahlfeld family.

Janice had deep faith and was a source of strength for many who knew and loved her. Her daughter invites you to pause and join her family who will be praying while the private burial service with her husband and a small group of family is held at 2 p.m. at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Beloit on Thursday&nbsp;April 9th, 2020.&nbsp;&nbsp;They will be joining Tami Roberts, one of the many nurses who cared for Janice, who will be leading an online rosary which can be found on their website.&nbsp;&nbsp;Those who would like to participate in that&nbsp;rosary for Janice may go to the funeral website.&nbsp;&nbsp;
