Darlene Ellison, age 89, entered into rest on Tuesday, April 7, 2020 at the Sunset Nursing Home, Concordia, Kansas.&nbsp; She was born on September 18, 1930 in Cloud County, Kansas to Claude and Laura (Bond) Schneider.

She married Raymond D. Ellison on May 29, 1955 in Concordia, Kansas. He preceded her in death on April 20, 1993.

Darlene worked in the housekeeping department at the Medical Lodge Nursing Home, Jamestown, Kansas, for several years.

She enjoyed playing cards, bingo, reading mystery novels, yard work, and mostly cooking for her family.

Darlene was a past member of the V.F.W. and Eagles Lodge of Great Bend, Kansas.

She is survived by her children, Patricia Rea, Galena, KS; Darrell Ellison (Rachele, Derby, KS; David Ellison, Concordia, KS; Larry Ellison, Concordia, KS; Eugene Ellison (Jessica, Winfield, KS; Richard Ross (Linda, Summers, AR; 13 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, son, Dale Ross, parents, Claude and Laura, 5 sisters, Katie Kagle, Frances Richard, Verna Hunt, Betty James, Irene Snyder, &nbsp;6 brothers, Robert, Bernard, Howard, Donald, Duane and Marvin Snyder.

Dennis Michael Giersch, 69, passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2020. A life-long resident of Saline County, Dennis was born on May 5, 1950 and grew up on the Giersch Family Farm with his four brothers and three sisters. As a young man, he developed a life-long interest in hunting and fishing and was an active 4-Her, participating in folk dancing and raising cattle for the Saline County Fair each year.

Dennis graduated from Salina Central High School in 1968. He was an officer in the local Future Farmers of America chapter and competed in Cross Country and Track &amp; Field. After high school, Dennis enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served at Camp Pendleton in California from 1968 to 1969.

Dennis was extremely hard-working and inspired others with his determination and dependability. He worked in the iron foundry at Wyatt Manufacturing and as a machinist at Great Plains Manufacturing for over 35 years. He also served as a Salina Journal delivery carrier for nearly 40 years. He had the longest tenure of any home delivery carrier at the Journal upon retirement and drove nearly a million miles throughout his career. He never missed a single day of his rural Ottawa County route, battling 12 foot tall snowdrifts, flat tires and the occasional deer to ensure each customer received their paper.

Dennis had a life-long passion for running and completed many notable distance runs in his youth, jogging from Salina to Hutchinson and even to Manhattan. He was eager to introduce others to the sport and often gifted friends and acquaintances with a new pair of running shoes so they could join him on his next run. He continued running in retirement and competed in dozens of 5ks, fun runs and races across Kansas. He was an enthusiastic motorcyclist and was active in the American Legion and American Legion Riders.

Dennis was a friend to everyone and eager to help both friends and strangers alike. He was a devoted father, brother and friend who will be missed immensely.

Dennis is survived by his daughter Sarah Shier; brothers Joseph, Richard, Stephen, and William (Bill); sisters Evangeline, Mary, and Annelle; nephews Tom, Tim, Joey, Kyle, and Patrick; niece Ashley; daughter's mother Jane Shier and her son Mark, as well as many other family members, friends and loved ones. He is preceded in death by his parents; Carl and Nellie Giersch, and nephew; William Carl.

Visitation will be held at Ryan Mortuary on Friday, April 10, 2020 from 2-7 PM, followed by a private burial service at Shiloh Cemetery on Saturday, April 11, 2020. Hillsboro - Elaine Jantzen, 91, entered eternal life on Tuesday, March 31, 2020 at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. Elaine had a quiet, steady spirituality that drew people to her. Elaine lived a unique life for a woman of her generation.

She was born August 31, 1928 on a diversified farm in rural Moundridge, Kansas to Paul and Lydia (Kaufman) Goering. As a young girl she enjoyed playing in the hayloft of the large family barn, reading, and showed an early aptitude for playing the piano. In May 1944, she was baptized at Eden Mennonite Church. Elaine graduated from Bethel Academy in 1946 and later from Bethel College in North Newton in 1950 with a BA degree in Social Sciences. Following graduation, she spent the summer on a student tour to Europe which included a 4-week stint building houses for refugees of the war. In college she enjoyed participating in choir and various clubs.

Following her travels, she worked in the Bethel College President’s Office before marrying Paul Jantzen in 1951 at Eden Mennonite Church. In 1953 they moved to Radium, Kansas so that Paul could teach Biology while Elaine found work at Larned State Hospital in the steno pool. In 1958 Hillsboro became their forever home where Paul was hired as the high school Biology teacher and Elaine worked for Superintendent Kliewer. As they were settling into their new community, they started to pursue adoption as a way to build their family. In 1961 Lisa joined the family, followed by Kristine in 1964.

Elaine was a stay at home mom supporting her girls as they pursued their interests and activities. At the same time, she was very active in the community. In the 1970’s she served 2 terms on the Hillsboro Public Library Board and in 1977 became assistant librarian under her good friend Delila Deckert. Working at the library she was able to share her love of reading with others. On days that new books would arrive at the library Elaine would often bring books home and read them cover to cover before returning them to work the next day. She also shared her love of reading with her grandchildren, often spending time reading to them and making sure that every birthday and Christmas gift included a special book. Elaine was also involved with the Marion County domestic violence organization, study clubs and the Marion County Democratic Party.

Paul and Elaine joined First Mennonite Church shortly after arriving in Hillsboro. Elaine maintained her membership at the church for over 60 years until the time of her death. Elaine served on many committees at church, sang in the church choir and was also the first woman to be elected to serve as a church deacon in 1979. She went on to serve as a deacon several times after her initial term. She was a member of the JOI Trio serving as the accompanist for the group for 10 years.

Elaine became a breast cancer survivor in 1989 and from that experience she served for 10 years on the Relay for Life Committee in Marion County through the American Cancer Society. Elaine appreciated Paul’s concern for what she considered to be important things in life. They shared and supported many common causes and activism around environmental, social, and political issues.

Above all, Elaine valued the beautiful life and family that she and Paul had built in their 67 years together. Elaine was excited to bring children into their family through adoption, and years later loved being involved in the everyday lives and activities of her Kansas grandchildren, Ashley and Andrew; and later enjoyed spending weeks in Texas and summer visits with Madi and Jacob.

After retirement Elaine enjoyed having coffee with friends, scrabble games and crossword puzzles. She continued to enjoy playing the piano, music events and time with family and longtime friends and attending Sr Center events.

Elaine is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Jantzen, son-in-law, Lars Meyerson and brother Lowell Goering. She is survived by daughter Lisa (Tim) Donahue of Lincolnville; granddaughter Ashley (Robert) Olmstead of Goddard, Kansas, grandson Andrew (Krista) Donahue, great granddaughter Nessa Donahue of Lincolnville; daughter, Kristine Meyerson; grandchildren Madison Elaine and Jacob Meyerson of Kemah Texas; brother Verne (Ruth) Goering; sister-in-law Judy Goering; sister-in-law Helen Ruth Unruh; brother-in-law Carl (Anne) Jantzen, nieces and nephews.

Mitch’s life began on September 26, 1962, the son of Otto and Edna (Reimer) Eck in Newton, Kansas. He graduated from Remington High Class of 1982. Mitch owned an appliance repair business, he was a truck driver and also a Railroad Crew Taxi Driver. He attended East Heights United Methodist Church in Wichita and enjoyed Wichita Thunder Hockey, watching car racing, and hockey games on television.

His loving family includes his brother, Russell Eck of Newton; Mitch’s companion, Katie Wadle of Park City; sister-in-law, Mary Petree (Robert) of Fort Wayne, Indiana; nephews, David Eck (Rachel) and Kevin Eck all of Fort Wayne.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Rodney Eck and Morris Eck. Mitch passed away peacefully on Friday, April 3, 2020, at the age of 57 years old.

Mitchell "Mitch" Raines Eck

January 9, 1937 - March 31, 2020

Bob Hamiltongreeted everyone with a big smile, a twinkle in his eye and a handshake or, if you were lucky, a hug. He loved to laugh and to make others laugh. He loved his family and friends, the Jayhawks, Las Vegas, poker and golf, not always in that order. After an escalating series of health issues, he could no longer enjoy those things. And as anyone who knew Bob can tell you, when he was ready to leave anywhere, he left.

But first he came. Robert E. Hamilton was born on Jan. 9, 1937, in Lincoln, Kan., the second child of Edw. and Lucile Hamilton. He spent most of his life in Lincoln until his retirement, when he moved to Salina.

Bob started working at a young age and never stopped. He delivered milk for Sanitary Dairy. He ran the Lincoln swimming pool. He worked for the city. He graduated Lincoln High School in 1955 and went to the University of Kansas, where he pledged Sigma Nu and kept working to put himself through five years of school. He took a P.E. class from Phog Allen and was John Hadl's pledge brother.

After graduating in 1961, Bob was hired by the late James Mettner to coach and teach at Lincoln Junior High. Then came a stint in the U.S. Army. Then it was back to Lincoln, and teaching.

In 1965, Betty and Duane Cole set Bob up with a young widow in Lincoln, Sharron King Lewick. It was a package deal: Sharron came with 9-year-old Teree and 5-year-old Tracee. He married Sharron anyway, on Aug. 20, 1966, and was a terrific father and husband.

A few years after his marriage, Bob realized how expensive three women could be, so he left teaching, which he loved, and joined his father and mother at the Saline Valley Bank in Lincoln. Bob spent the rest of his working life at the bank, rising to the position of president, and helped arrange the later sale to the Bank of Tescott.

Bob belonged to every civic organization in Lincoln, from Lions Club to Jaycees, and served for many years on the Lincoln School Board and Lincoln County Hospital Board. He was also a longstanding member of the Great Plains Health Alliance and took seriously the challenge of keeping medical care available in rural communities.

After retirement, Bob and Sharron moved to Salina in 2002. Bob played golf with old and new friends at the Elks Club and later Great Life. He had several weekly poker games and while heath permitted, visited his money in Las Vegas.

Bob's health began to deteriorate several years ago, curtailing many of his favorite activities. The last round of strokes in March was too much for him. He passed away on March 31, 2020, at the age of 83.

He leaves his wife of 53 years, Sharron, of the home; daughters Teree Rohleder and her husband Nick, and Tracee Hamilton, both of Salina; and in Raleigh, N.C., his beloved grandson Dustin Engelken and his wife Farah and their daughters, Ayala, Maelys and Amelya, whom Papa adored with all his very large heart.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Joyce Holl, and her husband Raymond, and his nephew, Leon Holl.

Bob made his wish to be cremated crystal clear. He also had decided views about the disposition of his ashes but the family will make sure those wishes are legal. Bob was very much a law-and-order man with a sterling character and reputation, both in his professional and personal dealings, and the family doesn't want to mess with that.

Bob never had to practice social distancing, which was a blessing for him. Memorials can be made to the Lincoln Art Center and Lincoln County Hospital, both of Lincoln, Kan., and the Elks Club, Salina. A service will be held when it is safe to shake hands and hug once again, just as Bob would want.

Verlin Ray Kolman passed from Earth to Heaven on Wednesday, April 1st, 2020.&nbsp; He was a great man, not by worldly measures, but by the way he loved his family, loved God, and showed the love of Christ others.&nbsp;

Verlin was born on August 18, 1936 to Chas and Grace Kolman in Cuba, KS. Embodying the message of his mother to value and gather education, he graduated from McPherson College and went on to become an educator and businessman. He taught and coached in Spearville and Jetmore, before becoming a Principal in Chase, Greensburg, and the first Principal at the new high school in Beloit. He also served as the Assistant Director at North Central Technical College.

After retiring from education, he continued working in real estate and farming.&nbsp; He loved hard work and passed this lesson on to his family.

Whether a teacher or a principal, his guiding philosophy was to put others first. He had a soft spot for the underdog and went out of his way to lend them a hand. Verlin was a great example of steadfast godliness. Like the mustard seed, no single day was he the hero, but his daily faithfulness moved mountains and built a legacy with his 63 years of marriage, his blessed family, his work ethic, and with service to the church.

He spoke and acted with the love of Christ to others. In the community, he touched lives through feeding kids at church, bringing Christmas memories to families with “The Tree Farm”, ensuring that no one left without a tree due to cost, spearheading the Port Library relocation, and helping families to buy or sell homes.

For his own family, he was a fountain of wisdom, advice, lessons, and fun. Playing pitch, pushing his grandchildren on the swing in front of his house, and taking family vacations were an endless source of joy. He approached life with zeal and integrity. He wrote letters to his family to share his wisdom.&nbsp; In his last letter he wrote, “You are invited to HEAVEN…it will be the ultimate family vacation – date unknown.”

In dying, he gave his family the opportunity to pray in faith and lean on God knowing that we live with the hope we will see him again. He salted his food, put syrup on his waffles, shared his Hot Tamales, enjoyed his wife, enjoyed his family and friends, and enjoyed the community.

Moving on in God’s graces are his wife of 63 years, Diane, his children: Venette (Robert) Davis, Denise (Jay) Jones, Bret (Susan) Kolman, Heath (Yanely) Kolman, and his grandchildren: Tiffany, Whitney, Ashley, Faith, Caleb (Abi, Aspen, Kayley, Daniel, Alec, Austin, Brooke, Elle, and great-grandson, Elijah.&nbsp; He is survived by one sister, Geneva Severin.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Paul Kolman, and his sisters Dollie (Kolman) Pickard and Evelyn (Kolman) Meyer.

Verlin Ray Kolman

Jessie F. (Perry) Peterson, 98, of Salina, passed away Sat. April 4, 2020. She was born Nov. 21, 1921 in Stilwell, KS to Louis and Anna (Cole) Perry.

In 1923 the family moved to western Kansas southwest of Oakley where her father managed the Bertrand Farms. Jessie attended Monument High School and then graduated from Bethany College with a music degree. She married Rolland E. Peterson at Salemsborg Lutheran Church July 28, 1946 upon his return from the Pacific Theater of World War II. They resided in Salina since 1946.

Jessie taught elementary and secondary school music for several years. She was a member of honor organizations Sigma Alpha Iota( music) and Alpha Delta Kappa (education). She was a long term contributing member of International Federation of Women's Clubs, Treble Clef Music Club and Salina Symphony Guild. Jessie was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church for over 60 years.

Survivors include a sister, Eloise Dale (Ken); son James E. Peterson (Tandis); daughter, Judy A. Peterson (Frank Gersich) and seven grandchildren, Lauren Richard (Remy, Ross Peterson, Trell Grinter (Kris, Taylor Knopf (Jay, Tyler Peterson, Karl Wenzel, and Sara Riley (Andrew); great-grandchildren, Anne Marie and Margot Lisette Richard.

A private graveside service will be held at Salemsborg Lutheran Cemetery.

Janet Lou Johnson, 69, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 11:53 a.m., Saturday, April 4th, while in the company of family members, at her home.

Janet was born in Lindsborg, Kansas on March 22, 1951, a daughter of Esther Adelia (Erickson) Ebling and Jack Walton Ebling.

Janet attended Elvings Country School, near Lindsborg, Kansas and graduated from Lindsborg Rural High School, Lindsborg, Kansas in 1969. She then attended Brown Mackie Business School, Salina, Kansas where she received her Business Degree.

She was a member of New Gottland Lutheran Church rural McPherson, where she was a member of WELCA and served her church in many other capacities.

Janet worked for Colonial Savings in Salina, Kansas before her marriage. After her marriage, she worked for Pioneer Savings and Loan Company, worked for USD 418 as an aide and worked for Central Plastics in the shipping department. She was the New Gottland Lutheran Church secretary for about 20 years. Janet was also a homemaker and farmwife and she took great pride in providing for her family in this manner.

Janet enjoyed sewing, cooking and baking, and spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.

Janet Lou Ebling was united in marriage to Marvin W. Johnson on July 28, 1979 at Bethany Lutheran Church, Lindsborg, Kansas. The young couple established their first home together on the Johnson family farm rural McPherson. They were blessed with the birth of daughter, Jamie. .

She is survived by her devoted husband of over 40 years, husband Marvin Johnson, of McPherson, Kansas; her daughter, Jamie Tautwein and husband Taner of Lindsborg, Kansas; her sister, Mary Jean Peterson and husband Eugene, of Lindsborg, Kansas; her sister-in-law, Caren Ebling, of Lindsborg, Kansas; her four favorite grandchildren, Adison Trautwein, Audrey Trautwein, Aspen Trautwein, and Ayvie Trautwein.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Kent Ebling and her stepfather, Raymond "Pete" Elmquist.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at the New Gottland Lutheran Church after we get the all clear from the COVID 19 Pandemic.

Wilma grew up in the&nbsp;Cuba, Kansas area&nbsp;and graduated from Cuba High School.&nbsp;&nbsp; On December 21, 1952, she was united in marriage to Frank J. Janousek, Jr. and to this union was born:&nbsp; Douglas and Debra.

Wilma worked at the ASC Office in Belleville, KS for over 10 years as an office clerk.&nbsp;&nbsp; She later worked at the Belleville Telescope and then for several years at Intermountain Veterinary Supply in Belleville until her retirement, when she moved to Salina, Kansas with her husband, Frank.

Wilma liked to crochet and embroidery for friends and family.&nbsp;&nbsp; She also loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Anna Kasl; her husband Frank J. Janousek, Jr. in 2006; Brother, Don Kasl; Sister-In-Law, Barb Kasl; and 2 Brother-In-Laws, Charles Van Nortwick and Ben Free.

Jimmie Dean Otott, son of Earl and Vera (Feldhausen) Otott was born February 10, 1943, at Concordia, Kansas. He attended grade school in Palmer, Kansas and graduated from Linn High School in 1961. He also attended Kansas Wesleyan College in Salina, Kansas.

On August 24th, 1963 he was united in marriage to Jane Allsman at the Central Christian Church in Belleville, Kansas and to this union two children were born: Kent and Candace. Throughout his adult life Jim was employed in the medical, agricultural, trucking industries, and the landscaping business. He especially enjoyed being involved with landscaping.&nbsp; He and Jane had their own nursery, “Sweet Cherry Village” for strawberries, cherries and assorted vegetable beds. In the most recent years he along with their nursery, Jim had his own lawn service during the growing season and snow removal in the winter months. In his spare time, Jim enjoyed his Jersey cows, volunteered on the Belleville Fire Department and as a little league baseball coach.&nbsp;He also served as the director of the Republic County Ambulance Service, and was a fan of Johnny Cash, the Statler Brothers and Gospel music.

Years ago he trusted Christ as his Lord and Savior at the Belleville Wesleyan Church. For many years he and Jane drove their church bus for various church activities and was a volunteer at the Bill Glass Prison Crusades. In the past years, he attended the Landmark church of Belleville.

Jim passed from this life peacefully at his home in Belleville on Thursday, April 02, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents. Hillsboro – Allen W. Pankratz, 94, died March 31, 2020 at Hillsboro Community Hospital in Hillsboro. He was born December 14, 1925 in rural Marion to Sam and Helena (Wall) Pankratz. 

He married Dorothy Funk May 27, 1952 at Ebenfeld Church rural Hillsboro.

Allen W. Pankratz

Nancy's life began on September 28, 1951, in Humboldt, Nebraska.  She was the daughter of Wilmer H. and Pauline M. (Hefty) Nelson. 

 Nancy is a 1969 graduate of Newton High School and continued her education while serving her country in the United States Army.  She earned a Bachelors Degree from the University of Maryland and a Master's Degree from the University of Kentucky.  

Nancy entered the United States Army in 1969 and her primary mission was as a registered nurse and nurse practitioner until she retired from the Army in 1992 as a decorated Lt. Colonel.  Nancy was named Honor Graduate at the Walter Reed Army Institute for Nursing in the Class of 1973, and her personal military awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, two Meritorious Service Medals, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, four Army Achievement Medals and the Southwest Asia Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars.  She later worked for Via Christi Health Systems and the University of Kansas Hospital. 

 Nancy loved bicycling, running marathons, ultra marathons, cross county, mountain hiking and staying physically active.  She also enjoyed quilting and her fellowship in the Burns Cornerstone Bible Church. 

 She was united in marriage to Jim Davis on July 1, 1989, in Newton and enjoyed 30 years of marriage. 

 She is survived by her loving husband Jim of Burns, stepsons Mick (Dixie) Davis of Orlando, FL, and Tony Davis of Gardner, KS; her siblings Rev. Roy (Karen) Nelson of Hutchison, and Ethel Smith of Valley Center and five grandchildren. 

 Nancy passed away peacefully at her home on April 1, 2020, in Burns. 

 She is preceded in death by her parents and siblings Jean Clark and Linda Nelson. 

 A family only memorial service will be held at the Burns Cornerstone Bible Church led by Pastor Jim Helzer on Tuesday, April 7th at 10 a.m. with live streaming available through the church for non-family.  She will be laid to rest in Pleasant Center Cemetery following the memorial service with military honors.  Yazel-Megli Funeral Home, Marion is serving the family. Virgil E. “Pete” Oborg, 87, of Overland Park and formerly of Smolan, passed away Monday, March 30, 2020. He was born October 20, 1932 in Smolan to Phillip and Mabel (Anderson) Oborg.

Pete was baptized and confirmed at Salemsborg Lutheran Church, Smolan, and later in life served on the church board. He was a graduate of Smolan High School. Pete was a U.S. Army veteran, serving as a Sergeant during the Korean War. He was a lifelong farmer, dairyman, and stockman, and served on the Board of Farmers Union Coop. After retiring from farming, Pete and Norma moved to Salina where they resided until moving to Overland Park in 2018.

He is survived by: his wife, Norma (Weddle) Oborg; daughters, Marty Whitaker (Scott) of Carrollton, TX, and Shelley Lierz (Steve) of Overland Park, KS; sister, Delores Anderson (Eyler) of Salina; and grandchildren, Britta and McKenna Whitaker and Brady and Sydney Lierz.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; brother, Wayne Oborg; and sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis and Guy Cypher.

Jim was a loving soul, a proud father, a caring son, brother, and a loyal friend. His passion for the beauty of the outdoors led him to many adventures in fishing, hunting, hiking and climbing. In pursuit of these experiences, he became a woodworker, a rod and gun builder and a fly tier, which he did with skill and perfection. His love of music and art led him to concert venues and museums throughout the country. He was a graduate and supporter of Kansas State University (EMAW).&nbsp; He was an avid sports fan whose greatest joy came from watching “his girls” on the court, field or track. He read everything and remembered every word. He worked so that he could live! His kindness to others is what they will remember.

A celebration of Jim’s life is planned for a more suitable time.

Justin Larry Clark, 65, of McPherson passed away Monday, March 30, 2020 at home in McPherson.  Justin was born April 6, 1954 in McPherson, KS to the late Larry Lee and Rose J. (McCulle) Clark.  

Justin was a 1972 graduate of Lindsborg High School.  He earned as Associates Degree from Colby Community College.  He worked, for 15 years, as a veterinary technician at the Ruidoso Downs Race Track in New Mexico. Justin was a sports fan and a fan of the Kansas Jayhawks.  He also loved gardening, working outdoors, and spending time with his dog, Kash.  

He is survived by his mother: Rose; of Roxbury; brother: Dane Clark (Phyllis) of Roxbury; sisters: Marce and Karme Clark, both of Wichita; his special friend: Kathleen Miller; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Justin is preceded in death by his father, Larry Clark.

Duane Banman, 92, died quietly surrounded by the love of his family on Sunday morning, March 29, 2020, in McPherson, KS, after slipping away bit by bit for many years due to the effects of Alzheimer’s Disease.

He was born in McPherson, Kansas on an All Schools Day, Friday, May 13, 1927, to Lina (Webb) and Samuel Banman. He entered the Navy immediately after graduating from McPherson High School in May 1945, and ultimately served in the Pacific.

Duane began his career at the McPherson Sentinel (at the time the Daily Republican) while still in high school. After returning from his naval service, he re-joined the Sentinel as a linotype operator, ultimately retiring after many years as the production manager for his hometown newspaper.

Following his marriage to Rita Sharpe, they raised their family in McPherson. Duane was active in the United Methodist Church and the VFW. He enjoyed boating, camping, fishing, and you would often find him tinkering in his garage because he could fix just about anything.

After retirement, they moved to Kimberling City, MO, where they lived for more than 25 years. Their time in Missouri was filled with a shared love of rescue dogs and various activities at their local United Methodist Church including mission trips to the Navajo Nation. They became active leaders in the Walk to Emmaus mission, serving as sponsors and speakers. Most holidays were spent in central Kansas with children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren until they could no longer make the trip due to his Alzheimer’s. They moved back to McPherson in mid-2018 and he entered the Cedars a few months later.Duane is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Bernice; his daughters and their families, Terry and Bill Baldwin, McPherson, and Rane Baldwin and Morgan King, Ann Arbor, MI; Denise and Jim McDonald, Seattle, WA; Melea and David Oxley, Medicine Lodge, KS, and Jon Oxley and Gretta Determann, Tallahassee, FL; Lorri and Chris Gurnett, Thornton, CO, Sara Gurnett and Matthew Riecks, Denver, CO, Erin Gurnett and Tim Mullineaux, Lafayette, CO; Bernice’s children and their families, Paula and George Hoke, Buhler, KS; Pam Hardwick, Thornton, CO; Steve and Gemma Hollingsworth, Kimberling City, MO; Brad and Tish Hollingsworth, Topeka, KS; Kent and Connie Hollingsworth, Canton, KS; and 14 Hollingsworth grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Wilbur.A memorial service will be held at a later date.
