Judith Lavonne Potter, 80, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 24, 2021, surrounded by family at her home in McPherson. 

Judith Lavonne (Wiggins) Potter was born May 25, 1940, in Kermit, TX, the oldest child and only daughter of Vaughn E. and Edna M. (Glendening) Wiggins. The family moved to McPherson when Judy was a young child and she attended McPherson schools, graduating from McPherson Senior High School in 1958. She continued her education at Central College, now Central Christian College of Kansas, receiving her AA degree in 1960. On June 19, 1959, Judy married Larry E. Potter. The couple moved to Denver, CO in 1960 but soon returned to McPherson to raise their four children, Susan Lavonne, Sarah Diane, Bradley Charles, and Eric Vaughn. Judy and Larry recently celebrated 61 years of marriage. Judy loved to read and told the story of making her mother think she was cleaning her room when she was only walking around the room while reading a book. Her love of reading was a benefit to her children, and she enjoyed reading to her grand- and great-grandchildren. Not surprisingly, according to McPherson Public Library, Judy was the longest continuous library card holder, having a continuously active card for 76 years. Judy’s love and compassion for animals was another driving force in her life, and she always had at least one cat around, in addition to various dogs, rabbits, chickens, etc. Judy enjoyed spending time outdoors gardening, mowing, and reading. She was an excellent cook and her fried chicken and scratch chocolate cake are legendary among her family. Judy had a beautiful alto singing voice, sang faithfully in various church groups for decades, in the McPherson Chorale, and in the Messiah for the Bethany College Oratorio Society for many years. She also encouraged her children in their musical pursuits and played the piano for numerous family sing-alongs. Judy retired from Dillon’s in 2002 after 25 years in various departments and was a volunteer at Save N Share for several years. Holidays were almost always at Grandma Judy’s house, and she worked hard to make them beautiful and special. She always had a loving servant’s heart toward her family. At a young age, Judy became a believer in Jesus Christ and was a member of the McPherson Free Methodist Church, where she served faithfully in many capacities during her lifetime. Her faith was especially dear to her during four major cancer battles, the last of which took her physical life. She trusted in Christ alone for her salvation and rested on the promises found in Romans 8:28-30 and John 14:1-3. The last few years of her life proved to be a refining fire, but she was always ready to testify to God’s faithfulness and goodness. Her family cherishes this legacy most of all. Judith Lavonne Wiggins Potter passed from this world into eternal life on Wednesday, February 24 at just after 3 p.m. at her home, attended by her daughter Sarah. She was predeceased by her parents, grandson Christopher Bradley Shepard, brother-in-law Richard Potter, and nephew Wes Black. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Larry E. Potter, of the home, children Susan Shepard (David), McPherson, Sarah Voth (Joel), Wenatchee, WA, Bradley Potter (Lisa), Omaha, NE, and Eric Potter, McPherson; grandchildren Adam Shepard (Emily), Dylan Shepard, Michael Voth (Margaret), Brian Voth (Christina), Katie Voth, Gregory Voth, Andrew Potter (Bailey), Lucas Potter (Laura), Benjamin Potter, Jacob Hughes (fiancée River Thompson), Brooklyn Hughes, and Tessa Naomi Potter; great-grandchildren Adeline, Charlotte and Evangeline Shepard, Isaac, Aaron, Levi, and Sophia Voth, Celia-Rose and Ira Potter, and one more great-granddaughter expected in the coming months. Judy also leaves a beloved brother, Charles Wiggins (Norane), of Springer, NM, sister-in-law Ruth Land (Jerry) of McPherson, numerous nieces and nephews, and other extended family members. She also leaves many friends who admired and respected her, and who will feel her loss keenly. A memorial service for Judy will be held at McPherson Free Methodist Church, 1010 S Maple St., McPherson, on Saturday, March 6 at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will be at Stockham Family Funeral Home on Friday, March 5 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with the family present. Interment will be at the McPherson cemetery following the memorial service. Kenneth’s life began on October 3, 1954 in Pullman, WA. He was the son of Robert Bernard and Wilma Faye (Durrett) Voller. He attended college for computer science. Kenneth served his country in the United States Navy from 1973 – 1976. He worked in shipping and receiving most of his career. Kenneth was united in marriage to Penny Brown on August 27, 1976 in Portland, OR. 

He was very musical and could pay trombone, guitar, flute and many other instruments. He enjoyed creating websites on his computer for churches and especially his Disney fan website. Kenneth was an excellent photographer and most especially enjoyed his grandchildren. 

His loving family includes his wife of 44 years, Penny Voller of Herington; daughter Jennel (Philip) Rowe of White City; grandchildren Jonathan Rowe, Justin Schultz, Christine (Tommy) Borrell, Tyler Schultz, and McKenzie (Ryan) Hicks; great grandchildren Corbin, Tobias, Isabella, Zenaida, Anthony, and Calliope; siblings Lynda (Dale) Simonton of WA, Janet Kubachek of WA, and David Voller of WA. Kenneth passed away on February 24, 2021 in Topeka. He is preceded in death by his parents. 

Friends will gather with the family on Monday March 1, 2021 at the First Baptist Church, Herington led by Pastor Darrell Geist. Kenneth will be laid to rest at the Kansas Veteran’s Cemetery at Fort Riley.

Sheryl was a 1966 graduate of Clyde High School.&nbsp; She attended Wichita Beauty College in Wichita, Kansas.

Sheryl worked as a Desk Clerk in Manhattan at the Holiday Inn and later Quality Inn.

She was an avid K-State Wildcat Fan and enjoyed watching KSU sports, Nascar Racing and traveling.

Sheryl is survived by her son, William Flesher, Jr., Manhattan, KS; 4 sisters, Sandra (LeRoy) Lyne of Oak Hill, KS; Susan (Jim) Schmidt of Elk City, OK; Shelley (Bill) Shivers) of Clay Center, KS; Sharon Pearce of Clay Center, KS; 2 brothers, Stan (Judy) of Cherokee, KS; Scott Pearce, Park City, KS; 2 grandchildren, DaKie Washington and DaKel Flesher, 2 great-grandchildren, Alaena and Amora Flesher.

Gerald Bernard Taylor was born June 29, 1928 in Abilene, Kansas, the son of Leroy ‘Dutch' G. Taylor and Avis R. (Rodgers). He left this earth February 24, 2021 at the age of 92. 

Jerry graduated from Abilene High School with the Class of 1946, and served in the Army National Guard Kansas Reserves from 1950-1953. He married Virginia Lou Davis on March 30, 1952 in Abilene. Over the years he worked in the parts and service departments of car dealerships in Salina, Abilene, and Herington, and later owned and operated Jerry's Auto Service of Abilene. As his boys were growing up, he became a Boy Scouts of America Troop #40 Leader, and for his girls he helped organize and coach the Abilene Ikes Girls Softball teams. A lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church he taught youth Sunday School and lead a youth singing choir. A faithful servant, he ushered the early morning services for 40 years. Jerry served on the USD 435 Board of Education for 8 years, and then was elected to the Abilene City Commission from 1987 to 1995, serving as Mayor from 1989-1990. He was appointed to the Central Kansas Wholesale Water District #10 where he was Vice President for 6 years, and then President for 2 years. In his retirement years he loved doing woodworking projects for family, neighbors and friends. Spending nearly all of his life in Abilene, he was a very community-minded man of humble service. Jerry is survived by his wife of 68 years, Virginia of Abilene, sons, Scott Taylor (and wife, Roberta) of Topeka, Randall Taylor of Enterprise, Garry Taylor of Abilene; and daughters, Nancy Goracke (and husband, Kim) of Manhattan, Janet Griggs (and husband, Randy) of Salina, and Sue Hern, also of Salina; his sister, Betty Jo McHenry of Topeka; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his brothers, Wayne R. Taylor, Dale L. Taylor and Max E. Taylor. Jerry was cremated and no funeral service is planned at this time. The family suggests memorial contributions in his memory to the Abilene Animal Hospital, Adopt-A-Pet Fund, 320 NE 14th Street, Abilene, Kansas 67410-1928.

Lewis Ellsworth Bates Jr. 80, of Salina, passed away Tuesday, February 23, 2021.&nbsp; He was born September 3, 1940 in El Paso, TX.

Lewis worked for the Salina Journal as a printer for 41 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis E. and Bessie L. (St. Clair) Bates Sr.

Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Jeanette M. Bates; children, Lori Eubanks (Ron), Roger Bates; grandchildren, Chris Rohloff (Mia), Amber Rohloff (Dominic Martinez), Carlie Mattison (Josh), Ronald Eubanks; great grandchildren, Dustin, Nataliya, Rylea, Jaci, Calvin, Gracie, Lillei, Lucy.

Robert Gene “Bob” Bottger, the son of Paul Jensen Bottger and Hazel Lucille (Moore) Bottger, was born November 22, 1935 as a twin in Concordia, KS and passed away on February 23, 2021 at Republic County Hospital-ISB, Belleville, KS at the age of 85 years, 3 months, and 1 day.

&nbsp;Bob grew up in Belleville, graduating from Belleville High School in 1954.&nbsp;&nbsp; He then attended Fairbury Junior College on a 2 year football scholarship.&nbsp; After college, he went to work for the Rock Island Railroad in Lincoln, NE on June 26, 1956.&nbsp;&nbsp; He started out on the freight docks but also unloaded cars, loaded trucks, worked as a yard clerk, baggage &amp; express clerk and a relief operator. He met his 1st&nbsp;wife Patricia Weber from Friend, NE while he was working in Fairbury. He also worked in Beatrice, NE and Goodland, KS. He married Patricia on November 26, 1960 and they soon moved to Phillipsburg. They had a son, Barry Kent.&nbsp; Bob lost his wife and unborn daughter Terri Lynn from illness during her 2nd&nbsp;pregnancy on June 3, 1965 . He and Barry moved to Belleville with family and he continued to work for the Rock Island as a clerk from June of 1966 to March 1, 1980.

In Belleville, Bob sang in a barbershop quartet out of Concordia, KS. He went through the chairs of the Elks Club and served as the Exalted Ruler for 3 years. He was on the Belleville Chamber of Commerce Fair Amusement Committee for 9 years and served as chairman/secretary for 3 years. In 1967h e thought he was to be laid off from the RR soon so he purchased the bar at 18th&nbsp;and M. He renamed it Bob’s Recreation. He never got laid off and so juggled both jobs from November of 1967 until 1980 when the Rock Island RR shut down. He hosted and traveled to many pool tournaments with his buddy Jack Morgan who introduced him to his 2nd&nbsp;wife, Phillis (Beeson) Cottenmyre. They were married on May 7, 1977, and he became step-dad to her 5 children – Teresa Lynn, Michael Charles, Robert Wayne, Karen Faye and Yvonne Marie. Then they had a daughter, Jennifer Ann.&nbsp;&nbsp; He owned and ran the bar until 1986 and then worked various jobs, including the local seed company, driving truck for Anderson’s, bartending at Rock Island Lounge (Bell-Villa) and a failed business named Crusty’s Pizza in Omaha, NE. Then he took a job working as a 3rd&nbsp;trick dispatcher for Kyle Railroad and Arizona Eastern Railroad in Phillipsburg, KS in May of 1988 where he later got promoted to Chief Dispatcher aka “Big Kahuna” and worked there until he retired on August 31, 2000.&nbsp; Bob was active at the local coffee shops and also at bars that had snooker tables and was part of a league there at Darlene’s Bar &amp; Grill.

Bob and Phillis moved back to Belleville to retire in their first marital home at 1714 Q Street. Bob went back to work hauling train crews and driving farm trucks for Roger Benyshek and Ed Popelka.&nbsp; He got a job working with his brother Norm as a door greeter at the Walmart in Concordia and worked there from November 30, 2004 until the end of 2013. His retirement activities included playing cards in his old bar, coffee breaks to various places in town, dessert and chat visits to his brother Norm’s, travel to Florida to see his daughter and a train trip out West to Seattle, WA.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Patricia and infant daughter, Terri Lynn;&nbsp; son, Robert Wayne Cottenmyre;&nbsp; three brothers,&nbsp; Herb, Norman, and Bob’s twin brother, Richard;&nbsp; granddaughter, Raelene Henderson, many cousins, and other family members.

He is survived by his wife, Phillis M. Bottger of Belleville, KS;&nbsp; children: Teresa Manus of Jewell, KS,&nbsp; Mike (Stacie) Cottenmyre of Belleville, KS, Barry Bottger of Belleville, KS, Karen (Shawn) Woolsey of Belleville, KS, Yvonne Cottenmyre of Belleville, KS, and Jennifer Rolle of Lutz, Florida;&nbsp; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Cremation was selected and memorial services will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday,&nbsp;March 20, 2021 at the United Presbyterian Church, Belleville, KS with details to be announced later.&nbsp;

Roy Gene Lyons was born January 11, 1941 to Wilta Darlene Lyons and Leroy Eugene Ginn in Superior, NE. He was adopted, at the age of 4 by Marion Lyons and Eunice Lyons (his biological grandparents) on August 31, 1945 and grew up in Nelson, NE.

He married the love of his life, Marlis Ann Killough on October 6, 1965 in Presho, South Dakota. They were blessed, by God, with 3 beautiful children: Martin, Pixie and Melissa.

Roy spent majority of his life driving Semi and then later started his own Autobody &amp; Mechanics Shop in Montrose Kansas (Roy’s Repair &amp; Autobody). He definitely was a “jack of all trades”. He taught his children, at a young age, responsibility, respect and how to work hard just like he always did for his family!

Roy was preceded in death by his Wife, Parents, Sister Katherine, Brothers: Lennis Leroy, Lowell Bruce, Lyle Ray, Leon Allen, and Lynn Doyle.

He is survived by his children: Martin &amp; Becky Lyons of Henderson NE, Pixie Kyle of Mississipi, and Melissa Serrano of Grand Island NE. He also is survived by brothers: Larry Gene Ginn and Lindell Dean (Butch) Lyons, sister, Lyla Faye Kruse. Roy and Marlis Lyons were very blessed to have left behind 15 grandchildren and great grandchildren to carry on their beautiful legacy!

Dad will be greatly missed by all of us, he was our ROCK but he was ready to go be with the love of his life again. Rest in Heavenly Peace, Mom &amp; Dad.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 26, 2021 from 1-4 p.m. at the Melby Mortuary in Mankato, Kansas.

Family and friends will gather at the graveside service to be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 27, 2021 with Pastor Jim Rice officiating.&nbsp; Casket will be open for viewing at 1:00 p.m.

Graham, and this union was blessed with three children, Brenda, Allen, and Kevin. He later married Susan Woodring. She preceded him in death on November 19, 2018. Cindy Tunheim, 67, died February 23, 2021 in Clay Center, KS.&nbsp; She was born on February 6, 1954 in Clay Center, the daughter of Charles “Chuck” and Lois (Peterson) Gelino.&nbsp; 

Cindy was raised in Morganville and was a graduate of CCCHS Class of 1972.&nbsp; She received her cosmetology license from Salina Academy of Hair and Design.&nbsp; Cindy worked at Judy’s Hair biz for three years before opening her own business, New Impressions Hair and Body Care.&nbsp; She was also the beautician at the Clay Center Presbyterian Manor for 16 years, retiring in 2020.&nbsp; 

Cindy was preceded in death by husband, Ron Thomas, her parents and grandparents.&nbsp; 

Her children and grandchildren were her world.&nbsp; Cindy did not know a stranger and was willing to help anyone in need.&nbsp; She was loved by all and will be missed by many.

Thelma “TJ” Jane Cameron gained her Heavenly Wings February 17th&nbsp;2021 in Clay Center, Kansas.

TJ was born in the small town of Bunker Hill, Indiana on March 19th&nbsp;1931 to Harold and Leah (Downs) Wagner.

TJ was born right in the middle of the Great Depression. She was the middle (and only girl) child. She had two brothers Eugene and Chuck. She was a Daddy’s girl and thought the sun rose and set on him. 

When she was sixteen she married Lovell Horn and together they had four children. She stayed busy working as a waitress, seamstress and activities leader. She helped coach her daughter’s softball team and was a leader for Brownies Troup and Cub Scouts. After 23 years of marriage TJ and Lovell parted ways. 

She later moved to Kansas to be with her daughter. She was very active in her church life and loved her Lord and Savior. &nbsp;She worked in Manhattan at Campbell’s (a fine collections store) and the Manhattan Library. She really enjoyed both of these jobs as it kept her involved with people. She retired and moved to Clay Center where she met the love of her life Leonard Cameron. They were able to adventure this life together for ten years.

TJ was preceded in death by her youngest daughter Renee Lynn, her only son Rex Lovell and her husband Leonard.

TJ has 3 granddaughters Melissa and husband Jason Kling of Clay Center, Kansas, Laura and husband Jason Fitzpatrick of Manassas, Virginia and Angela and husband Mike Pedersen of Manhattan, Kansas.

She also has a grandson Robert Blackburn of Clay Center, Kansas.

Larry “Tom” Smith, 80, of Miltonvale, KS died February 24, 2021 at the Salina Regional Health Center.&nbsp; He was born December 12, 1940 the son of Laurice and Alice (Hood) Smith. Tom grew up in Miltonvale and graduated from Miltonvale High School in 1958.&nbsp; He attended Miltonvale Wesleyan College and Brown-Mackie College in Salina.&nbsp; Tom married Ruth Whitney on June 5, 1962.&nbsp; He farmed his entire life in the Miltonvale area.&nbsp; He also worked at Hutchinson Manufacturing, Miltonvale COOP, Miltonvale Lumber and did custom harvesting in Kansas and Oklahoma. &nbsp;Tom was a member of the Miltonvale United Methodist Church, Young Farmers and volunteered for the Miltonvale Rural Fire Department.&nbsp; He was also an avid trap shooter.&nbsp; He is preceded in death by parents and grandson, Luke Smith.

Tom grew up in Miltonvale and graduated from Miltonvale High School in 1958.&nbsp; He attended Miltonvale Wesleyan College and Brown-Mackie College in Salina.&nbsp; Tom married Ruth Whitney on June 5, 1962.&nbsp; He farmed his entire life in the Miltonvale area.&nbsp; He also worked at Hutchinson Manufacturing, Miltonvale COOP, Miltonvale Lumber and did custom harvesting in Kansas and Oklahoma. &nbsp;Tom was a member of the Miltonvale United Methodist Church, Young Farmers and volunteered for the Miltonvale Rural Fire Department.&nbsp; He was also an avid trap shooter.&nbsp; He is preceded in death by parents and grandson, Luke Smith.Survivors:Wife: Ruth Smith of Miltonvale, KSDaughter: Sandra Smith of St. Peters, MOSon: John Smith of Newton, KSDaughter: Mary and husband, Thomas Good of Leawood, KSSon: Jeffrey and wife, Angie Smith of Garfield, KS6 Grandchildren: Ben Good, Thomas Petrie, Libby Petrie, Loren Smith, Leah Smith and Adalee Smith.Sister: Mary and husband, Darrel Blake of Assaria, KSSister: Nancy and husband, Carmen Trahan of Bennington, KSMemorial Services:&nbsp;&nbsp;will be announced at a later date. &nbsp;Memorials:&nbsp;&nbsp;Miltonvale Rural Fire Department c/o funeral home

Virgil Marvin English passed away on Friday, February 19, 2021 at the Mitchell County Hospital in Beloit Kansas, at the age of 89 years. Virgil and his twin sister, Vonna, were born June 25, 1931 on the family farm in Asherville township, they were the youngest of five children born to Ernest and Myrtle (Jones) English. Virgil was the last surviving sibling. He graduated from Beloit High School in 1949. In 1951 Virgil entered the Army and was a Veteran of the Korean War. Upon returning from the war, he worked for his uncles on the Jones custom combine crew from Lincoln County. He later worked for Payne Motor Company in Beloit.

Virgil met his wife, Nancy Shaver, on a blind date. They were married on September 20, 1959 at the Jewell Christian Church in Jewell, Kansas and celebrated over 61 years together.

He retired from Fuller Chevrolet as an auto body repairman after working there for many years.

Virgil was a quiet man. He could repair or fix most things and liked to tinker in the garage for many hours during the day. He also liked to dismantle things to see how they were made. The grandkids enjoyed being in the garage with their Grandpa. They could usually find a small piece of board that he had left for them to pound on or use it to build something. Virgil liked to listen to polka music and watch Mollie B Polka Party on television. He liked old cars, trucks, and tractors.

For several years Virgil lived at Hilltop Lodge in Beloit. Some of his favorite things to do were music therapy, dudes coffee group, and wine Wednesday. He especially enjoyed going out to the courtyard and watching and feeding the peacocks, turtles and fish.

He is preceded in death by his Mother and Father, 3 sisters, Aileen Wilson-Spatz, Eula Wilson, twin sister Vonna Nelson, and brother, Dale English. Virgil is survived by his wife, Nancy of the home; daughter Elaine Mitchell (Terry) of Beloit, Kansas and Richard English (Michelle) of Beloit, Kansas. Grandchildren Jacob English (Jordan) of Virginia Beach, Virginia; Grant English of Manhattan, Kansas; Bethany Mitchell of Beloit, Kansas. Great-grandchildren Riley English and Astrid English of Virginia Beach, Virginia. One sister-in law Sandra Railsback of Smith Center, KS; cousins, and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be at 10 AM Saturday, February 27 at the Beloit First Christian Church. Cremation has taken place. Friends may sign the register book from 9 AM to 5 PM Friday at the Roberts Family Funeral Home. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Mitchell County Veterans Memorial, Mitchell County Regional Medical Foundation, or the Church.

Salina- Catherine Anne Meikle (Greene) passed away on Saturday, February 20, 2021 peacefully at home at age 66.&nbsp;&nbsp; She was a loving daughter and sister to 8 siblings.

Cathy was born on December 30, 1954 in Salina to James and Geraldine Greene.&nbsp; She attended Catholic elementary schools in Kansas and California and graduated from Cleveland High School in Reseda California in 1973.

Hard-working and devoted to her parents, Cathy worked a variety of jobs in California and Kansas before settling in Salina to care for her mother.

Cathy loved her family, and with her mother, she hosted many happy gatherings at the family's childhood home in Salina.

Cathy was preceded in death by her father, James.&nbsp; She is survived by her mother Geraldine of Atchison, sisters Theresa Greene and Mary Margaret Hays (Michael), and brothers James (Christine), William (Kelley), Thomas (Janet), Mark (Becky), Patrick (Romunda) and David (Debbie), 10 aunts and uncles, 18 nieces and nephews, 8 great nieces and nephews, and many cousins.

Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date.
