Barbara Elizabeth Powell, 95, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 8:00 a.m., Saturday, June 19, 2021 while in the company of family members at the Cedars.
Barbara was born in Lawrence, Kansas on August 9, 1925, a daughter of Francis Lesley and Thelma Susan (Bryant) Benedict.
Barbara attended Pinckney Grade School and graduated from Lawrence High School, Lawrence, Kansas in 1943.
Through the years Barbara loved being a homemaker for her family, she then started working for Insurance Life as a secretary and switchboard operator.
Barbara enjoyed her animals, sewing, swimming at the YMCA with her friends, cooking and enjoyed spending time with her friends and family.
Barbara Elizabeth Benedict was united in marriage to Dale D. Powell on February 8, 1948 in Lawrence, Kansas. The young couple established their first home together in Lawrence. This couple was blessed with the birth of two sons, Mark and Barry.
She is survived by her children, Mark Powell and his wife Connie and Barry Powell and his wife Debbie, both of McPherson, Kansas.
She is also survived by four grandchildren, Melanie Luttig (Mitch), Ryan Powell (Christy), Shannon Powell, (Lanae), Brandon Powell; 10 great-grandchildren, Brittany, Avery, Gianna, Tatum, Gavin, Drew, Whitney, Adrie, Kalei, and Matthew
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Dale.
Service will be at a later date.
