Arthur “Art” W. Howell, Jr. 86, passed away Friday, March 11, 2022, in Lincoln, KS. He was born June 20, 1935, to Arthur and Lola Ann (Spear) Howell, in Anderson, MO. 

﻿Art was a licensed engineer and surveyor. He served as county engineer in several counties in Kansas having been the Lincoln County Engineer at the age of 25. 

Art and his wife, Eula Mae established their own engineering firm in Lincoln County. He also held a private pilot’s license. 

Art was a past member of the Kansas State Board of Agriculture and the Kansas State Fair Board. Serving as past president, Art had been active in the Kansas Simmental Association through the years. His involvement in the American Boer Goat Association was felt throughout the United States of America.

Art was a stalwart volunteer for the Convention of States movement. He had a formal role as regional captain and the informal role as the state charmer. He could not leave a room until he shared his love for individual rights and limited government with everyone there. He disarmed his opponents with his smile and charm.

Art’s involvement in the Convention of States project promoted his belief in Article Five of United States Constitution.

Art is survived by his son&nbsp;Daniel Howell; grandson&nbsp;Dusty Howell; granddaughter&nbsp;Nikki Howell; granddaughter&nbsp;Katie (Jason) McWilliams; grandson&nbsp;Joshua Howell; grandson&nbsp;Whit Divilbiss; grandson&nbsp;Court Allmond; granddaughter&nbsp;KaiCee Campbell; brothers Frank (Nina) Howell, Lyle (Lyn) Howell and Butch (Marge) Howell; brother-in-law&nbsp;Jim LePisto; and numerous great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his wife&nbsp;Eula Mae; sons A. Wade and Jeff Howell; grandson-in-law&nbsp;Donnie Moore; brothers Doyle (Julie) Howell and Bob (Janet) Jones; and sisters Vaudline (Rex) Field and Cheryl LePisto.

Art Howell was a true patriot and Statesman.

Memorial service: 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 7, 2022 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Ellsworth.

Ronald Dean Bryant, 55, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 4:52 p.m. Thursday, March 31, 2022 unexpectedly at his residence.

Ronald was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on November 4, 1966, a son of Sherilyn Evamae Grace (Hodgkin) Thompson and David Linwood Bryant.

Ronald attended and graduated from Faith Baptist School, Olathe, Kansas in 1985. He then attended a computer trade school in Roanoke, Virginia. He was a member of Countryside Covenant Church in McPherson.

Through the years Ronald worked as a operator with Viega Mfg. for 13 years.

Ronald enjoyed Chiefs football, especially watching them win, with his daughter Camille, Nascar, especially Dale Earnhardt, Jr., traveling, camping and spending time with friends and family. His life ambition was to have a family, which he did with Menchu and Camille.

Ronald Bryant was united in marriage to Menchu Perida on March 23, 2013 in McPherson, Kansas. The young couple established their first home together in McPherson. This union was blessed with Ron adopting Menchu's daughter, Camille.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Menchu Bryant, of McPherson, Kansas; his daughter Camille Bryant, of McPherson, Kansas; his father, David Bryant and his wife Sue, of Hudson, Florida; his mother, Sherilyn Thompson and her husband Bob, of Windham, Maine; his siblings Rick Bryant and his significant other Rhonda Apana, of Dexter, Maine, Holly Page and her husband Morey, of Vernon, Vermont, Randall Bryant and his significant other Marta Landeros, of Lyons, Kansas and Rusty Bryant and his wife Loreane, of Watervliet, New York.He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at Glidden-Ediger Chapel, McPherson, Kansas. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at Glidden-Ediger Chapel, McPherson, Kansas with Reverend Jeremy Bower officiating. Burial will be at a later date.

John Edward Schwartz, the son of Christina Margaret (Kuhn) McReynolds and John J. Schwartz was born on March 9, 1954 in Hoisington, Kansas. He was one of six children born to this union, four sons and two daughters, John Jr., Betty, Don, Theresa, Tom and John. 

John attended St. John grade school, Hoisington, Kansas and graduated from Hoisington High School, Hoisington, Kansas in 1972. He then attended Barton County Community College, Great Bend, Kansas for automotive mechanics. After John was discharged from the military he attended Hutchinson Community College, Hutchinson, Kansas where he received his associate's degree.

John E. Schwartz was united in marriage to Nancy Jean Sheridan on April 28, 1975 in Ellsworth, Kansas. The young couple established their first home together in Bainbridge, Maryland. This union was blessed with the birth of two daughters, Sonya and Megan. 

John proudly served in the United States Navy until his honorable discharge in 1980. 

Through the years John worked as an electrician for the Board of Public Utilities, McPherson, Kansas. 

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in McPherson.

John was a Christian, loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and dear friend to many. 

His wise counsel, gentle but firm guidance and gracious smile will be missed by all those who knew and loved him. He was very proud of his children and always wanted the very best for them. He was especially fond of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and looked forward to the times they would share together. 

John was a master of all trades who could build anything from a house to a vehicle from scratch. His favorite pastime was restoring old Chevy trucks but he was reluctant to even work on Fords or foreign vehicles. He also enjoyed traveling with the Hot Rod Power Tour, competing in car shows with the Mac Area Cruisers, and watching Nascar every weekend. He loved going to auctions and swap meets. For him, everything was for sale, for the right price of course. When John was a young man, he was an excellent drummer and still enjoyed listening to anything with a good drum line. John cherished his family and friends, but was always quick to say goodbye.

John Edward Schwartz, 68, of Moundridge, Kansas, passed away at 5:44 p.m., Tuesday, March 29th, 2022 unexpectedly at his residence. 

John was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Betty Szmyd.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Nancy Schwartz of Moundridge, Kansas; his daughters Sonya Jenkins and her husband Mike of Moundridge, Kansas and Megan Schwartz of Moundridge, Kansas; his siblings Don Schwartz and his wife Julie of Moundridge, Kansas, Theresa Murray of Kingman, Kansas and Tom Schwartz and his wife Pat of Wichita, Kansas. He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Bayli Hoppes, Brenen Hoppes, Ian Jenkins, Kaden Jenkins, J.D. Jenkins, Thomas Jenkins and two great-grandchildren, Bronx Hoppes and Kingston Ogbevoen.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 3, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, McPherson, Kansas with rosary starting at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial service will be held on Monday, April 4, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in McPherson, Kansas with Fr. Ben Shockey officiating. Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. at the Carneiro Cemetery, Carneiro Kansas.

Kathryn Laura (Holecek) Hill, 78, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away at 11:15 p.m., Wednesday, March 23rd, 2022 at The Cedars Health Care Center.

Kathy was born in McPherson, Kansas, on February 17, 1944, the daughter of Leona (Kleiber) and F. Wayne Holecek. 

She attended Washington Elementary School and graduated from McPherson High School in 1962. She graduated from Kansas State University, concentrating on elementary education.She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of McPherson.

After graduating, Kathy worked at raising her family and supporting Bill’s career as they moved from Illinois, to Nebraska, then Iowa, and finally Florida. 

Kathy began her teaching career in Florida and continued it after relocating in 1979 to Dodge City, Kansas, to be closer to family. Kathy taught special education for 25 years in Dodge City before retiring in 2004 to her hometown, McPherson. She taught a few more years in McPherson before transitioning to a paraprofessional educator role at McPherson Middle School. 

Kathy enjoyed K-State athletics, especially K-State football. She loved spending time with her family, socializing and traveling with friends new and old. Kathy and Bill enjoyed their social life and always enjoyed a party with friends of whom they had many. They had their childhood friends, condo friends, Dodge City friends, Florida friends, K-State friends, work friends, yoga friends, and many more. Kathy was small in stature, but her voice, smile and laugh are remembered by everyone!

Kathryn Laura Holecek was united in marriage to William Harve Hill, Jr. on January 15, 1965, in McPherson, Kansas. The young couple established their first house together in Manhattan, Kansas. This union was blessed with the birth of two sons, Jeff and Andy.

Kathy was proceeded in death by her parents Wayne and Leona Holecek and her husband, Bill.

She is survived by her children Jeff Hill and wife Nanette, of Tecumseh, Kansas; and Andy Hill and his wife Megan, of Louisburg, Kansas; her brother John Holecek, of McPherson, Kansas, sister-in-law Sara Bremyer and her husband Jay, of McPherson, Kansas, brothers-in-law Bob Hill of McPherson, Kansas, David Hill and his wife Lisa, of Santa Fe, New Mexico. She is also survived by grandchildren Caitlin Butto (David), Madeline Kolman (Alec), Benjamin Hill, Alison Hill, Jake Hill, Noah Hill, Luke Hill; her great granddaughter, Natalia Butto; and nephews Seth Bremyer and Aaron Bremyer (Dionne).

Wayne Holecek. She attended Washington Elementary School and graduated from McPherson High School in 1962. She graduated from Kansas State University, concentrating on elementary education.She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of McPherson.After graduating, Kathy worked at raising her family and supporting Bill’s career as they moved from Illinois, to Nebraska, then Iowa, and finally Florida. Kathy began her teaching career in Florida and continued it after relocating in 1979 to Dodge City, Kansas, to be closer to family. Kathy taught special education for 25 years in Dodge City before retiring in 2004 to her hometown, McPherson. She taught a few more years in McPherson before transitioning to a paraprofessional educator role at McPherson Middle School. Kathy enjoyed K-State athletics, especially K-State football. She loved spending time with her family, socializing and traveling with friends new and old. Kathy and Bill enjoyed their social life and always enjoyed a party with friends of whom they had many. They had their childhood friends, condo friends, Dodge City friends, Florida friends, K-State friends, work friends, yoga friends, and many more. Kathy was small in stature, but her voice, smile and laugh are remembered by everyone!Kathryn Laura Holecek was united in marriage to William Harve Hill, Jr. on January 15, 1965, in McPherson, Kansas. The young couple established their first house together in Manhattan, Kansas. Dorothy L. Havel, age 93, entered into rest on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at the Park Villa Nursing Home, Clyde, Kansas.&nbsp; She was born January 21, 1928 in rural St. Joseph, Kansas to Frank and Rosanna (Ouellette) Fief.

Dorothy married Don B. Havel on February 13, 1945 in Cuba, Kansas.&nbsp; They were united in marriage for over 71 years.&nbsp; To this union six boys were born, Lynn, Michael, Martin, Cameron, Nicholas, and John.&nbsp; 

Don preceded Dorothy in death on June 25, 2016.

Dorothy was a homemaker who lovingly raised six boys.

Dorothy always had a smile on her face and a loving word, her kindness was evident to all who knew her.

She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Clyde, where she served as a eucharistic minister.&nbsp; Dorothy’s faith and her family were her most important and cherished treasures.

Survivors include her six sons, Lynn (Joni), Gunnison, CO; Michael (Juanita), LaGrange, IL; Martin (Joyce), Cheyenne, WY; Cameron, &nbsp;Salina, KS; Nicholas (Elaine), Wichita, KS, and John Havel (Jenny), Sydney, Australia; 11 grandchildren and&nbsp; 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Rosanna, three brothers, Elmer, Leo, Virgil Fief, three sisters, Ella Marcotte, Edna Sorell, and Rena Skinner.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial mass will be held 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 21, 2022 at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Clyde, Kansas with Fr. Steven Heina officiating.&nbsp;&nbsp; Inurnment will follow in the Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Alvin L. Cook, age 93, lifetime Concordia resident, entered into rest on Sunday, April 3, 2022 at the Sunset Nursing Home, Concordia, Kansas. He was born on Feb. 16, 1929 in Concordia, Kansas to Herman and Grace (Wretling) Cook.

Alvin was a 1947 graduate of Jamestown High School, Jamestown, Kansas.&nbsp; After high school he attended Kansas State Agriculture College in Manhattan, Kansas.

Alvin was united in marriage to Lottie Jo Swengel on May 27, 1951 at the First Christian Church in Concordia, Kansas.&nbsp; To this union two daughters were born, LaVeda and LuAnn.

Alvin was a member of the First Christian Church where he served as an elder for 50 years.&nbsp; He also served on the Board of Soil Conservation Service, Cloud County Dairy Association, Cloud County Sheep Association, Jamestown Rural Fire District Board, and West Branch Cemetery Board.

He was a lifetime farmer and rancher in the Cloud County community.

Alvin truly enjoyed taking care of his sheep, cattle and spending time outdoors.

Alvin is survived by his wife, Jo Cook, Concordia, two daughters, &nbsp;LaVeda Hobbie (Gary), Salina, KS; LuAnn Callan (Jerry), Clay Center, KS; four grandchildren, Vanessa White, John, James and Hannah Callan and one great-grandson, Ben White; a niece, Bonnie Driskell (Russ), Taos, NM;

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Grace, and one sister, Lula Mae Bolander.

The daughter of Charley Withrow, Jr. and Laura Hardin, Laurie was raised in McPherson, along with her siblings, Eric Hardin, Cindy Tillman and Martha Sheldon.

She graduated from McPherson High School and later attended cosmetology school. Laurie worked as an aide in the health care field and later as a hair stylist.&nbsp; She brought her big, giving heart to both professions in a loving and selfless way.

In 1996 Laurie married the love of her life, Mitchell “Mike” Ray Likins, Jr. Laurie and Mike enjoyed their “family members” with many horses, dogs, and cats. They were married for 12 years until Mike’s untimely death in 2008.

Laurie had many hobbies including books and movies, canning, crossword puzzles and crocheting. She enjoyed finding new recipes and was a good cook.

Laurie had a big heart and was known by her friends and family sharing whatever she had. She was outgoing and enjoyed many friends.

Her extended family includes nieces and nephews Jaclyn Gifford, Blake Tillman, Leslie Shaw, Ashton Walton, Alayna Reta, Audra Davidson, and Sam Howell. She was such a proud aunt and enjoyed being with her family.

Patricia Ann Tyler (Patti), 61, passed away at Salina Regional Health Center on 3/28/2022.

Patti passed away in the ICU surrounded by her loving family.&nbsp; She was a loving, beautiful, and kind soul. She would also be a little spitfire at times, when she needed to be. Patti was not afraid to call it like she saw it.

Patti was forced to retire approximately five yrs. ago due to health conditions. Her last job was working for 1st Choice Security. She loved that job and adored her coworkers, especially Jason, AV, and many others. Patti had many friends at Salina Regional Health Center, and it seemed as if “everyone” knew who Patti was. She didn’t care what position you worked in or what title you held; she spoke to everyone. She worked many jobs in her lifetime and was never afraid of hard work.

Patti spent many hours sitting with her mother, Mary, drinking coffee and watching “The First 48.” She loved true crime shows and was always watching when she could. She would bring her faithful companion, “Oreo Cookie,” everywhere she went.

She loved her family more than anything and spent every holiday with her family. She fiercely loved her nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews and ALL her aunts, uncles, and cousins. Patti was a beautiful soul.

Left to mourn her passing are her mother Mary Vargas; brothers Mike Davis of Delaware,&nbsp; Jimmy Davis,&nbsp; and Leroy Vargas; sisters Maria Koury of Philadelphia, Rachel Rock,&nbsp; and Amy Vargas-Wilson.

Patti is preceded in death by her father Leroy Vargas, brother John Vargas, sister Laura Cannon and brother-in-law Kevin Wilson.

Linda Louise (Louie) Saunders, daughter of Arthur Melvin Youngblood II and Louise (Grueber) Youngblood was born March 6, 1949 at Deshler, Nebraska and passed away on March 30, 2022 at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, Kansas at the age of 73.

After graduating from high school, she attended and graduated from Doane College, Crete, Nebraska with a BA degree in elementary education.&nbsp;She was an elementary school teacher for 42 years, teaching every grade from K to 5, between the Superior, Nebraska and Pike Valley school districts. She was in charge of the Republic County spelling bee for many years, and exciting young minds about learning was her passion.&nbsp;She also loved music and the arts. She played the tuba and was in many plays. Anytime you saw her she always had a joke for you. She was an animal lover, and owned many birds and dogs over the years.

&nbsp;She was united in marriage to Elgin Saunders on May 23, 1975 and to this union two children were born, Angel and John.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Courtland, Kansas and the United Methodist Women.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Louise Youngblood, one brother, Arthur (Mick) Melvin Youngblood III.

&nbsp;She is survived by her husband Elgin Saunders of Courtland, KS, one daughter, Angel (Lucas) Zeller of Paxico, KS, one son, John Saunders of York, NE, five grandchildren, one great-grandchild, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held&nbsp;2 p.m., Tuesday, April 5, 2022, United Methodist Church, Courtland, KS, conducted by, Pastor Sandra Jellison-Knock.

Interment will be in White Rock Cemetery, rural Courtland, KS.

Dianne’s life began on January 9, 1960, in Florence. She was the daughter of Delano F. and Barbara Anne (Harbison) O’Dell. Dianne was a 1978 graduate of Marion High School. 

She worked for the Marion County Treasurer’s Office for several years as a clerk and had been the city clerk at Florence. Prior to working in local government, Dianne was a seismologist and worked in several and varied locations. 

Dianne was fortunate to have found love twice in her life, first to husband James Hinton, who preceded her in death and then to Don Burnett, who she married April 6, 1994, in Reno. 

Dianne was an expert homebody. She loved to be in her jammies, enjoying time with family. She was a fan of watching old western movies and enjoyed football, rooting on her NY Giants. 

Her greatest joy was her family which includes her husband Don of Marion, brother Mike O’Dell of Marion; nieces Erin (Shawn) Markley of Lee Summit, and Caitlin (Jake) Adkins of St. George, KS; and great-nieces and nephews Ella, Lily, Logan, Reagan, Quinn, and Collins. 

Dianne passed away at her home on Thursday March 31, 2022. 

She is preceded in death by her parents, first husband James Hinton, and brother Scott O’Dell. 

Her family will gather with friends on Monday April 4, 2022, from 6-8 p.m. at Yazel Megli Funeral Home, Marion. Her graveside funeral service will be held on Tuesday April 5, 2022, at 2 p.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery, Florence.

Dianne passed away at her home on Thursday March 31, 2022. She is preceded in death by her parents, first husband James Hinton, and brother Scott O’Dell. Ardella M. Kasten, entered the Kingdom of Glory, on March 31, 2022, with her family by her side. She was born December 6, 1925, on the family farm west of White City, to Otto and Lydia (Albrecht) Hansen.

Ardella attended local schools and graduated from White City High School with the class of 1944. 

On August 28, 1944, Ardella married the love of her life Clyde in White City. This union was blessed with five children.

 Ardella was a homemaker on the family farm, raising her children, planting a garden and raising vegetables for the family.&nbsp; Another priority of Ardella’s was raising chickens and caring for all the farm cats. She also enjoyed raising flowers and with these flowers she would supply flowers for the church altar. Ardella was a faithful member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Latimer, where she was a member of the Ladies Aid and the Altar Guild.&nbsp; Ardella loved to quilt, making quilts for many family members through out the years. She belonged to several social clubs over the years and loved taking care of her grandchildren throughout the years. 

Family was very important to Ardella; she never missed a chance to spend time with her family and she always would cook big meals for them. Ardella loved watching K-State sports and loved watching the Kansas City Chiefs play. But her favorite thing to do was watch her grandchildren’s sporting events regardless of the sports.

Ardella is survived by her husband of 78 years, Clyde, sons Gary (Connie), of Manhattan, Wayne of White City, Randy (Catherine) of Herington, and Richard (Darlene) of White City, her sister Barbara Tiede, her 10 grandchildren Shanda (Jared) Wilson, Shawn (Lorri) Kasten, Shane (Melissa) Kasten, Shelly (Brandon)Woods, Kerry (Lacie) Kasten, Joshua Kasten, Betsy Kasten, Kyler (Tana) Kasten, Kilynn (Zeb) Elliott, Kasey (Tanner) Anderson, great-grandchildren Lindsey and Luke Wilson, Grayson, Kaitlyn, and Addison Kasten, Jacob Kasten, Cutler and Kinsley Jo Kasten, Kamryn and Kreyton Anderson, Kymber, Kale, Koy and Keeley Kasten, Kannen and Kycen Elliott, and stepgrandchildren Alicia (Michael) McDaniel, Brandon Mottel and Troy Dodd.

Barbara Sue (Peters) Lomax, 78, Osborne, was born September 17, 1943 in Downs, Kansas to Preston and Evelyn Peters. She passed away&nbsp;Friday April 1, 2022 at the Osborne County Memorial Hospital in Osborne, Kansas.&nbsp;

She passed away&nbsp;Friday April 1, 2022 at the Osborne County Memorial Hospital in Osborne, Kansas.&nbsp;Barbara graduated from Downs High School in 1961 and then moved to Salina to attend Academy of Hair Design. She spent years as a cosmetologist where she enjoyed conversation with her clientele. Barbara also spent years caring for people in the nursing home and hospital in Osborne as a CNA/CMA and also served as a para- professional at the high school and grade school in Osborne.&nbsp;She married her husband&nbsp;John Lomax April 22,&nbsp;1967 in Beloit, Kansas. John and Barbara lived in both Cawker City and Osborne where they raised their children.&nbsp;Barbara enjoyed “cruising” around in Osborne and the surrounding area, gardening, discussing politics, playing cards and games, and spending time with family, friends, and grandchildren. She will be remembered for her laugh, her sense of humor, and stubborn, yet passionate soul.&nbsp;She is survived by her husband John Lomax of the home; daughter Shan Holloway and husband Brian, of Osborne; daughter Gina Smith and husband Chris of Ellis; son Rhett Lomax of Osborne; grandson Tracy Holloway and wife Lacey of Osborne; grandson Shaylon Holloway and Alisha, Grace and Gabe Smith of Downs; and grandson Easton Smith of Omaha, Nebraska; and two great-grandchildren Donovan and Dixon Holloway of Osborne.Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and&nbsp;sister, Patricia Centlivre.&nbsp;&nbsp;At Barbara's request a graveside memorial will be announced at a later date.
