Virginia R. Hunt, 96, of Junction City, KS and formerly of Beaver City, NE, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 18, 2021, at Harmony Home in McPherson, KS. 

Prior to retirement, she owned and operated a hardware store in Beaver City. She was born on June 2, 1925, in Pawnee County, NE, the daughter of Ralph Lewis and Lillian Josephine (Novotny) Stepan. She graduated from Peru (Nebraska) High School and received her associate's degree in business. Virginia was united in marriage to Howard E. Mortensen on June 15, 1947. He preceded her in death on July 6, 1972. She married Lee Allen Hunt on May 18, 1974, and he passed away on May 16, 1995. She was a member of Faith Community Church, V.F.W. Auxiliary, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include three children, Vivian Gaughan (Mike) of Hollywood, FL, Kenneth Mortensen (Marcia) of Junction City, KS, and Donna Rhine (Barry) of Hollywood, FL; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Mortensen, Jill Mortensen, Jason Rhine, and Aaron Rhine; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, and four sisters, Betty Stepan, Valesta Stepan, Dorothy Stepan, and Evelyn Neve. A service will be held at a later date. Carolyn Kohls, 80, passed away Friday, November 19, 2021, surrounded by family, at her home in Ellsworth, KS. She was born July 22, 1941, in Ogden, UT to Henry and Elvera (Lange) Dockter. 

Carolyn shared her birthdate with her future husband, Kenneth Kohls. They married on August 8, 1965, in Rupert, ID.

Carolyn was a longtime resident of Ellsworth, KS where she was the secretary, treasurer, and gofer for Kohls Construction. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where she was part of the altar guild, sang in the choir, and taught Sunday school and catechism.

Carolyn is survived by her husband Kenneth of Ellsworth; son Kevin Kohls of Lawrence; daughter, Cindy Holecek (Darin) of Ellsworth; and grandchildren Braden, Taylor, and Avery Holecek. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Donna Beall and Betty Maier.

Visitation: 1-8 p.m., Tuesday, November 23, 2021, with family present 6-8 p.m., at Parsons Funeral Home in Ellsworth.

Funeral service: 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, north Ellsworth County with burial following in the church cemetery.

Dave Dahlsten, age 78, passed peacefully from this world on October 2, 2021. Dave was born on October 29, 1942, in Wichita, Kansas. He was the youngest of four children born to Clifford and Ruby Dahlsten. Dave was raised in Lindsborg, Kansas where he graduated from Lindsborg High School and attended Bethany College. On November 10, 1962, he married Charlotte Jaquiss. To this union were born their children, John and Michelle.

Dave was employed in the plastics industry. Throughout his career, he created various extrusion processes, established and managed production facilities, and excelled in sales. He was an entrepreneur and inventor at heart. On August 3, 1989, Dave married Carol Schroeder and simultaneously expanded his family considerably with the addition of four stepchildren – Patsy, Jo, Beth, and Tim – and their families. Dave loved to travel and visited every continent except for Antarctica. He was an avid golfer and card shark. He loved a good joke, magic trick and lively conversation. He made friends instantly where ever he went. Dave had a generous spirit which blessed friends and strangers alike. Dave was preceded in death by his parents Ruby and Clifford Dahlsten; his sisters Esther Marie Jaderborg and Anita Thackery; and his stepson, Tim Schroeder. Dave is survived by his wife Carol Schroeder Dahlsten; his children John Dahlsten (Wende) and Michelle Dahlsten Kratofil (Dave); his grandsons Alex Kratofil and Aaron Kratofil; his brother, Ron Dahlsten (Sue); his stepchildren, Patsy Neef (Jim), Jo Littrell, and Beth Chalmers along with their eleven children and seventeen grandchildren; his nieces and nephews, extended family, and numerous friends and colleagues. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, from 5-7 p.m. at the American Legion in McPherson, Kansas. Sandra graduated from Notre Dame Catholic High School, Concordia in 1964. She later graduated from Crum’s Beauty School in Manhattan.&nbsp; 

She married Larry Starr 1964 and to this union were born Angela and Shawn. She later married Charles “Chuck” Hittle on May 12, 1973 in Salina, and to this union, a son, Derrick, was born. He preceded her on Sept. 17, 2014. &nbsp;

She owned and operated Shear Elegance beauty shop, along with helping drive trucks with her husband Chuck.&nbsp; Additionally, she was a longtime hairdresser for the Sisters of St. Joseph Convent, Concordia. Sandra was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Concordia.&nbsp;

She is survived by her sons Shawn Starr (Judith) &amp; Derrick Hittle (Amy), Concordia; daughter Angela Bloomer, Concordia; stepdaughters Karla McMillan (Norman), Jamestown and Lori Hughes, Arkansas City; stepson, Daniel Hittle (Kelley), Casper, WY; siblings Jolene Clark (Dave), Joyce Dutton, Jim Metro (Michelle) of Concordia, Larry Metro (Deanna), Claflin, Steve Metro (Deb) of Albuquerque, N.M., Geralyn Strait (Bob) of Emporia, and Julie O'Donnell (Kenny) of Salina; sister-in-law Carol Metro, Salina; 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Erma J. Cornett, daughter of Roy C. Blackburn and Sylvia (Walter) Blackburn was born November 1, 1932 at rural Belleville, Kansas and passed away on November 17, 2021 in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 89.

Erma was united in marriage to Glen V. Cornett on March 25, 1951 and to this union five children were born, Kathy, Connie, Jack, Shirley and Janet.&nbsp; She was a farm wife and homemaker.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She was a member of Central Christian Church, Belleville, KS, CWF, quilting group, WWW Club, Stardust Study Club, and active with her children in the Rydal Rustlers 4-H Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents Roy and Sylvia Blackburn, husband Glen V. Cornett, four brothers, Donald, Marvin, Dale, Eddie, and two sisters, Freta Cornett, Donna Holmes.

She is survived by four daughters, Kathy (Ron) Fielder of Swisher, Iowa, Connie (Paul) Meyer of Deshler, Nebraska, Shirley (Patrick) Blackburn of Midland, Texas, Janet (Ken) Moeller of Beloit, Kansas; one son, Jack (Sheila) Cornett of rural Scandia, Kansas; 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one sister, Delores Boman of Hebron, Nebraska; two sisters-in-law, Rosalyn Blackburn of Richland, Missouri, Ilene Kelly of Belleville, Kansas; one brother-in-law, Warren Holmes of Manhattan, Kansas; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Donald Rex Clothier, 91, passed away on November 16, 2021 at Presbyterian Manor in Newton, Kansas. Rex was born on March 26, 1930 on a farm north of Sylvia, Kansas to Perry and Connie (Book) Clothier. 

He attended grade school in Stafford, attended and graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1948. He attended Hutchinson Community College before enlisting in the Air Force in 1951.

Rex attended basic training in Wichita Falls, Texas and was stationed at Lake Charles Air Force Base in Louisiana working on B-29 bombers that flew bombing missions from Korea to Okinawa. He was later stationed in Okinawa with the 307th Bomber Wing to work on aircraft that flew missions over Korea. He was also stationed in Goose Bay Labrador, Greenland and Saudi Arabia, returning to Lake Charles Air Force Base in 1955, where he was honorably discharged. In July 1955 he entered the Kansas Highway Patrol school on the University of Kansas Campus in Lawrence. Rex met Pat Lang while working as the driver’s license examiner for Sedgwick County and Pat was working for the Internal Revenue Service. They were united in marriage on January 12, 1957 at First United Methodist Church in Wichita, Kansas. They were married for 38 years and raised four children. Rex served on the patrol in Marion, Salina, Lyons, and Dodge City where he was promoted to sergeant overseeing ten troopers. He retired in 1980 from the patrol but continued to work. Rex worked for Farmland Insurance Company, was a rural mail carrier in Dodge City and drove a school bus for Marion Unified School District. He spent many happy hours riding a lawn mower with his son, Greg. His wife Pat preceded him in death in 1995. Also preceding him were his parents, his brother James, and his sister Jearnnette.

He is survived by his four children: Belinda Amend and her husband, Doug, Hesston, Kansas; Brad Clothier and his wife, Karen, Scottsdale, Arizona; Lori Wilhelm and her husband, Richard, Lubbock, Texas; Greg Clothier and his wife, Denise, Wichita, Kansas; his ten grandchildren: Amanda Harrison, and her husband, Cory, Moundridge, Kansas; Derrick Amend and his fiancé, Sydney, Wichita, Kansas; Sara Amend and her fiancé, Preston, Wichita, Kansas; Ashley Stevenson and her husband, Tyler, Wichita, Kansas; Tyler Kirby and her husband, Chris, Wichita, Kansas; Abby Clothier, Wichita, Kansas; Chelsea Boatright and her husband, Clay, Aurora, Colorado; Amber Wilhelm, San Antonio, Texas; Brian Wilhelm and his wife Jade, Lubbock, Texas; Cody Wilhelm, Lubbock, Texas. He also has eleven great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Services will be held on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at Marion Christian Church with Carl Helm officiating. Albert’s life began on October 27, 1930, the son of David and Anna (Wyse) Ward in Potwin, Kansas. 

He graduated from Potwin High Class of 1949 and served his country in the US Air Force from 1949-1956. 

He married Marianne Boller on October 25, 1959 in Farmington, New Mexico.

Albert was a machinist and tool inspector at Boeing. He enjoyed his family, camping, fishing, reading, traveling and golf.

His loving family includes his daughters Suzanne Ward of Whitewater, Kay and her husband, Duane Keefover of Wichita; brother Otis Ward of Dixon, Illinois; sister Helen Schumacher of Bourbon, Missouri; grandchildren Ryan Keefover (Katie), Ashley Keefover, Todd Keefover (Dessire); great-grandchildren Judah and Aurrow.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Marianne in 2013; brothers David and Bob Ward and a sister, Dorothy Neil.

Albert passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 14, 2021 at the age of 91 years old. A private family service will be held.

As a boy, Leon Mills spent hours riding his horse, Bob, up and down wooded hills and ravines in hot pursuit of outlaws and bandits. Years later, as a consulting veterinarian for feedlots, he spent hours driving through western Kansas and the Texas and Oklahoma panhandles. His independent spirit and love of the country never changed. Leon was born to Joe and Cordelia (Anderson) Mills on May 10, 1940 in Abilene, Kansas. He and his older sisters Joanna and Kitty grew up on the family farm that bordered nearby Enterprise. He enjoyed helping raise crops and livestock—but not chickens—and went to school in Enterprise and Chapman, graduating from Dickinson County Community High School in 1958. In high school, he was active in 4-H and FFA, but music mattered most and he became an accomplished trombonist. Lucky for him, his sister Kitty was a talented pianist and they spent hours playing popular songs together. As a junior, not only was he deemed worthy to play in the Abilene Municipal Band, he marched with them down Pennsylvania Avenue, leading President Eisenhower’s second inaugural parade. That summer at the county fair, Pat Dawe and her hot pink shorts caught his attention and they began dating their senior year at rival high schools. As graduation neared, Leon and his mother went through Kansas State University’s college catalog, looking at majors. They started at A, but nothing clicked until they got to V, veterinary medicine. Leon and Pat continued dating at K-State, where he joined Delta Tau Delta and played in the symphony orchestra. They married three years later on July 9, 1961 and by 1964, when Leon earned his doctorate in veterinary medicine, Pat had graduated and their son Mark was born. Leon worked in mixed animal practices, for a pharmaceutical research company, and served two years as a U.S. Army captain and a post veterinarian at Ft. Riley. While there, he shared caring for Chief, the last U.S. Army combat cavalry charger and already 35 years old. Later, Dad laughed that no veterinarian wanted to be on duty if Chief so much as coughed. When his sister Joanna’s husband, Joe Clemence, offered him a position at his feedlot outside of Herington, Kansas, the family of five moved and settled for good. Leon also bought a local mixed animal practice and Pat managed the books while their dachshunds, Muffin and Shadrach, patrolled the waiting room. In 1980, Leon took a leap, sold his practice, and joined the feedlot consulting firm of Jim Sheldon and Associates. He’d found his niche and later became an independent consultant. Clients appreciated his integrity and the results he produced, pharmaceutical companies sought out his expertise, and his children learned not to ask, “What’s in the cooler?”—the answer was probably “brain tissue for the lab.” He took joy in his children’s joy, never missed a concert, game, or performance, and spent countless weekends at parades and rodeos as a Herington High Striders dad. As his children married and had children, he threw them just as far in the swimming pool as he had their parents and he loved on them just as hard, too. Retirement wasn’t easy, but K-State sports and cruises with friends helped until his battle with Parkinson’s disease began. The relentless loss of mobility and declining health frustrated him greatly. Even so, hospital nurses and caregivers appreciated his wit and how hard he tried to keep a brave face. On November 14, 2021, he died quietly at home, in his sleep.

His parents and brother-in-law, Bruce Dalton, passed before him. 

His survivors already miss him greatly: his wife of 60 years, Pat, of Herington, his children Mark Mills (Claudia) of Prairie Village, Kansas, Scott Mills of Shawnee, Kansas, Cindy Herbel (Jerry) of Mesa, Arizona, grandchildren Haley, Seth, Kelsey, Caroline, Olivia, Carly, Louisa, sisters Joanna Clemence (Joe) of Abilene, Kansas, Kitty Dalton of Salina, Kansas and several nieces, nephews and their families.

His family will gather with friends on Saturday, November 20, at 9:30 a.m. for the internment of ashes at Mount Hope Cemetery (1005 S. Lincoln Street, Enterprise) and again at 11:00 a.m. for a memorial service at St. Paul Lutheran Church (114 N 8th Street, Herington). A lunch and fellowship will immediately follow the service at St. Paul Parish Hall. Years later, as a consulting veterinarian for feedlots, he spent hours driving through western Kansas and the Texas and Oklahoma panhandles. His independent spirit and love of the country never changed. Leon was born to Joe and Cordelia (Anderson) Mills on May 10, 1940 in Abilene, Kansas. He and his older sisters Joanna and Kitty grew up on the family farm that bordered nearby Enterprise. He enjoyed helping raise crops and livestock—but not chickens—and went to school in Enterprise and Chapman, graduating from Dickinson County Community High School in 1958. In high school, he was active in 4-H and FFA, but music mattered most and he became an accomplished trombonist. Lucky for him, his sister Kitty was a talented pianist and they spent hours playing popular songs together. As a junior, not only was he deemed worthy to play in the Abilene Municipal Band, he marched with them down Pennsylvania Avenue, leading President Eisenhower’s second inaugural parade. That summer at the county fair, Pat Dawe and her hot pink shorts caught his attention and they began dating their senior year at rival high schools. As graduation neared, Leon and his mother went through Kansas State University’s college catalog, looking at majors. They started at A, but nothing clicked until they got to V, veterinary medicine. Leon and Pat continued dating at K-State, where he joined Delta Tau Delta and played in the symphony orchestra. They married three years later on July 9, 1961 and by 1964, when Leon earned his doctorate in veterinary medicine, Pat had graduated and their son Mark was born. Leon worked in mixed animal practices, for a pharmaceutical research company, and served two years as a U.S. Army captain and a post veterinarian at Ft. Riley. While there, he shared caring for Chief, the last U.S. Army combat cavalry charger and already 35 years old. Later, Dad laughed that no veterinarian wanted to be on duty if Chief so much as coughed. Nyla Marie (Marsh) Powell, age 66, passed away in her home on November 14, 2021, in Downs, KS. She was born to Charles Marsh and Charlotte (Willmarth) Marsh in Sibley, Iowa on August 3, 1955. &nbsp;

Nyla may have been born in Iowa, but she laid down her roots in Downs, KS where she dedicated her life and was a tremendous asset to the community. 

In April of 1974 she was united in marriage to Brad Gant and to that union Corinne Renee was born. The past four years she also had a fur son, Kirby, whom she loved tremendously. Nyla was also a bonus mom to Brandy Kirchhoff Becker for many years.&nbsp;

Nyla’s truest loves were her grandchildren Kennedy, Tatum, Cooper, and Declan. She loved to support them in all their extracurricular activities. With all the exciting activities she found another passion to take photos. She became well-known in the family as the one who would capture all the beautiful moments with her love of taking pictures. Nyla was also well-known to her family and friends for making Christmas stockings as a new baby or significant other was added to the family. Everyone cherished these stockings because she made sure they represented each individual and she put her love and time into them.&nbsp;

Nyla graduated from Minneapolis High School and went on to get her associate's degree at the vo-tech in Beloit, Ks. 

Once living in Downs, she found her forever workplace and worked at the local pharmacies that were owned by Don Heiland, Kelly Berkley and Shawna Doane. In 1999 she went and received certification as a pharmacy technician.&nbsp;

Dedicating many years to the Downs Parks and Recreation group, she became a true asset to the organization and community. Nyla made sure the baseball/softball teams were well supported and that the children of the community were taken care of through that organization. Nyla loved living in Downs and that love she proved through all years being so faithful to the various organizations and jobs she had.&nbsp;

Nyla is preceded in death&nbsp;by her parents and Betty Kaspers (mother-in-law) and left to mourn her is her daughter Corinne (Bryan) Hoard, Kennedy Walsh (Alexis Ryan), Tatum, Cooper, Declan Hoard, her siblings Kevin, Valerie, Calvin, Margaret, Anthony and Aaron, sister-in-law Lana Gant and family Lela, Trevor, Hadee, Tynlee, Ridge Arnoldy, Dee, Jesse, Byntlee and Kessler Winkel, nieces and nephews that she dearly loved and friends that became family, and a beautiful community that she cherished.&nbsp;

Nyla will be forever missed by her family, friends, and co-workers. She will remembered for many things but most of all for loving her family and her work.

Memorial services will take place at a later date.

She was born to Charles Marsh and Charlotte (Willmarth) Marsh in Sibley, Iowa on August 3, 1955. &nbsp;Nyla may have been born in Iowa, but she laid down her roots in Downs, KS where she dedicated her life and was a tremendous asset to the community. In April of 1974 she was united in marriage to Brad Gant and to that union Corinne Renee was born. The past four years she also had a fur son, Kirby, whom she loved tremendously. Nyla was also a bonus mom to Brandy Kirchhoff Becker for many years.&nbsp;Nyla’s truest loves were her grandchildren Kennedy, Tatum, Cooper, and Declan. She loved to support them in all their extracurricular activities. With all the exciting activities she found another passion to take photos. She became well-known in the family as the one who would capture all the beautiful moments with her love of taking pictures. Nyla was also well-known to her family and friends for making Christmas stockings as a new baby or significant other was added to the family. Everyone cherished these stockings because she made sure they represented each individual and she put her love and time into them.&nbsp;Nyla graduated from Minneapolis High School and went on to get her associate's degree at the vo-tech in Beloit, Ks. Once living in Downs, she found her forever workplace and worked at the local pharmacies that were owned by Don Heiland, Kelly Berkley and Shawna Doane. In 1999 she went and received certification as a pharmacy technician.&nbsp;Dedicating many years to the Downs Parks and Recreation group, she became a true asset to the organization and community. Nyla made sure the baseball/softball teams were well supported and that the children of the community were taken care of through that organization. Nyla loved living in Downs and that love she proved through all years being so faithful to the various organizations and jobs she had.&nbsp;Nyla is preceded in death&nbsp;by her parents and Betty Kaspers (mother-in-law) and left to mourn her is her daughter Corinne (Bryan) Hoard, Kennedy Walsh (Alexis Ryan), Tatum, Cooper, Declan Hoard, her siblings Kevin, Valerie, Calvin, Margaret, Anthony and Aaron, sister-in-law Lana Gant and family Lela, Trevor, Hadee, Tynlee, Ridge Arnoldy, Dee, Jesse, Byntlee and Kessler Winkel, nieces and nephews that she dearly loved and friends that became family, and a beautiful community that she cherished.&nbsp;Nyla will be forever missed by her family, friends, and co-workers. Dixie L. Kracke, 87, of Abilene passed away Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at Memorial Hospital in Abilene surrounded by family. She was born September 22, 1934 in Onaga, Kansas the daughter of Marvin and Lillian (Rockwell) Kelly. She grew up in the Abilene area, attended the local schools and graduated from Abilene High School in 1952. 

On January 9, 1954 she was united in marriage to Otto Kracke in Woodbine. He preceded her in death June 27, 2009. 

Dixie worked as a bookkeeper for Riggin Greyhound farms. She also was a housewife, a member of the Red Hat Ladies and the Widow Club. 

Dixie is survived by her three daughters: Sharon Rutz and husband Rob, Glenda Riffel, Terri Jackson and husband Dwayne; grandchildren Dustin Taylor, Justin Riffel, Jessica Rutz-Rein, Eric Riffel and Trey Jackson; and great-grandchildren Jenna Uehling, Avre Rein, Brekin Rein and Kaci Riffel. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband Otto and two brothers, Darrel and Delbert Kelly.

Dixie’s wishes were cremation. No services are planned at this time. A celebration of life will take place at a later date. Dixie will be laid to rest next to her husband Otto at Bethel Cemetery. 

The family suggests memorials be given to Home Health or Hospice of Dickinson County. Memorials may be dropped off or mailed to Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, 414 NW Third St., Abilene, Kansas 67410.

anis E. Taylor, 74 of Salina, passed away Saturday, November 13, 2021.&nbsp; She was born March 12, 1947, in Gothenburg, Nebraska.

Janis worked for the FBI in Washington D.C. for 2 years as a secretary before moving to Grand Island, Nebraska. There, Janis found a job as a seamstress for the V. A. Hospital for 18 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents Vernon “Pat” and Margery (Hollibaugh) Purintun, sister Judy Fester and brother Jerry Purintun.

Janis is survived by her loving husband of 54 years,; Jerry T. Taylor; son Justin Taylor of Kenai, Alaska; two daughters, Jennifer (Anthony) Hastings of Salina and Julie Taylor and her significant other Nick Rupard, of Chicago, Ill.; her sister Jolene (Al) Jankowski of Elkhorn, Nebraska; seven grandchildren; Natalie Sue Taylor, Eric Taylor, Makelti Hastings, Makaen Hastings, &nbsp;Makambri Hastings, Krissa Radford, and Jordan Bulin;&nbsp; three great-grandchildren, Aleah Taylor, Audrey Radford, and Peyton Radford; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 20, at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 702 South Ninth Street, Salina.

Robert Dean “Bob” Molzahn, the son of Charles G. and Mabel E. (Walker) Molzahn, was born in Belleville, KS on August 24, 1937 and passed away on&nbsp;November 14, 2021 at the Presbyterian Manor, Clay Center, KS at the age of 84 years, 2 months, and 20 days.

Bob was engaged in farming all of his life and for a good portion of this life also ran a machine shop business in his farm shop.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He was a prior member of the Munden United Methodist Church.&nbsp;&nbsp; After its closing in 2007, he became a member of the First United Methodist Church, Belleville, KS.

He served a ten-year tour as a member of the Kansas National Guard, with ten months active duty at Fort Bliss, Texas.

He was married to Joan (Buller) Gaiser on July 22, 1991.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Mabel Molzahn, and one nephew, Kenneth Stier.

Bob is survived by his wife Joan of rural Munden, KS; one brother, Walter &nbsp;Molzahn and his wife Virginia of rural Narka, KS; one sister, Carolyn Molzahn of Grand Junction, CO; one niece, Jaymee Macgregor also of Grand Junction, CO;&nbsp;&nbsp;four stepchildren, Bradley Gaiser and his wife Marla Sanchez of Los Altos, CA, Teresa Navarro and her husband Jose of San Jose, CA, Marian Nelson and her husband Tyler of Clay Center, KS, and Jeff Gaiser also of Clay Center, KS;&nbsp; two &nbsp;granddaughters, Sydnee Nelson, and Alex Keehn and her husband Cory;&nbsp; other relatives, and friends.

Jody was born in Coldwater, Kansas on April 28, 1933, the daughter of Fred Clifford and Myrtle Marie (Atteberry) Clinesmith. Jody attended the Coldwater elementary schools and graduated from Coldwater High School in 1951. She then attended the Pratt Community College, Pratt, Kansas for one year. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in McPherson. Jody enjoyed her dogs, camping and traveling in her motor home, cooking, music, music theater, she loved her church family and loved spending time with her friends and family. Jody was a homemaker. Prior to her retirement she was a secretary for Flory and Karstetter Law Office and later was a secretary for Prairie View Mental Health Center, McPherson, Kansas. Jody was united in marriage to Darrell Neil Dombaugh on May 17, 1953 at the Methodist Church, Coldwater, Kansas. Darrell died on December 19, 2002. Jody was then married to Merlin J. Miller on August 18, 2008 in McPherson, Kansas. She is survived by her husband Merlin Miller of McPherson, Kansas; her daughter Dalyn Cantrell and husband Mark of McPherson, Kansas; her stepchildren Cheri Hudson and husband Neal of Wasso, California, Kevin Miller and husband Herb Acevedo of Provincetown, Massachusetts, and Diane Patton and husband Jim of Maize, Kansas. She is also survived by her two grandchildren Casey Cantrell and Cristen Cantrell, of McPherson, Kansas and her step-grandchildren Colby Patton, of Oxford, Kansas, Riley Patton and Cara Hudson of McPherson, Kansas. Robert was born on November 3, 1928, in Hillsboro, KS, the son of George K. and Susie (Loewen) Martens. He attended the Clark Elementary School in Inman.

On February 17, 1952, Robert was united in marriage to Ruth Hiebert in Hillsboro, KS. She preceded him in death on July 9, 1974. On September 12, 1975, he married Betty Jane Giesel in Moundridge, KS. She passed away on April 3, 2018. He was a member of Zion Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, rural Inman, KS. Survivors include: a son, Duane (Gayla) Martens of Inman, KS; two daughters, Shirley Penner of Inman, KS and Connie (Kevin) Koehn of Mayfield, KY; nine grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and many extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, wives, stepmother Anna (Hiebert) Martens, son-in-law Arden Penner, sister Lola Litwiller, and brother Kenneth Martens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, November 18, 2021, at Zion Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, rural Inman, KS. Martens, 93, of Inman, KS, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 16, 2021, surrounded by family at Hospice House, Hutchinson. He was a farmer and rancher. Robert was born on November 3, 1928, in Hillsboro, KS, the son of George K. and Susie (Loewen) Martens. He attended the Clark Elementary School in Inman. On February 17, 1952, Robert was united in marriage to Ruth Hiebert in Hillsboro, KS. She preceded him in death on July 9, 1974. On September 12, 1975, he married Betty Jane Giesel in Moundridge, KS. She passed away on April 3, 2018. He was a member of Zion Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, rural Inman, KS. Survivors include: a son, Duane (Gayla) Martens of Inman, KS; two daughters, Shirley Penner of Inman, KS and Connie (Kevin) Koehn of Mayfield, KY; nine grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and many extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, wives, stepmother Anna (Hiebert) Martens, son-in-law Arden Penner, sister Lola Litwiller, and brother Kenneth Martens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, November 18, 2021, at Zion Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, rural Inman, KS. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 19, at Zion Church of God in Christ, Mennonite with Ministers Maynard Koehn and Dallas Nikkel officiating. Kent V. Merrifield of Herington was born on June 6, 1947 in Wichita, Kansas to Glen and Iris (Surtees) Merrifield. 

He graduated from Wichita South High School in 1965.

 He served his country as a radio repairman, carpentry specialist and a structural concrete worker in the Air Force from 1968-1971. He served in the Army as a tank mechanic and painter from 1971-1987 and then the Army National Guard from 1987-2007. 

He married Sandra Jean MacDonald on March 4, 1999 in Herington, Kansas.

He enjoyed woodworking, landscaping his yard and keeping his yard looking immaculate throughout the year. His loving family includes his wife Sandra of the home; son Shane MacDonald of Hillsboro, Kansas; daughter Shonna Llamas (Mario) of Newton, Kansas; brothers Mike Merrifield (Maryn) and Steve Merrifield, and a sister, Ann Johnson, all of Wichita, Kansas; and a granddaughter, Sadie MacDonald. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Kent passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 13, 2021, at the age of 74 years old. The family will greet friends on Monday, November 24 from 10-11 a.m. at Yazel-Megli Funeral Home, Herrington. Graveside services will follow at 1:30 p.m. with military honors at Kansas Veteran’s Cemetery, 5181 Wildcat Creek Rd., Manhattan, Kansas.

George F. &nbsp;Meyer, age 87, entered into rest on Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at Cloud County Health Center, Concordia, Kansas. George was born on January 3, 1934 in Chapman, Kansas to John and Katherine (Curry) Meyer.

George was a 1951 graduate of Chapman High School.&nbsp; He received his bachelor of science degree from St. Benedict’s in Atchison, Kansas.

On August 20, 1957 &nbsp;George married Laura Jo Chaput at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Concordia, Kansas.&nbsp; To this union four children were born, Tony, Ken, Kevin and Kathy.

George began his teaching career at Concordia Catholic School which later became Notre Dame High School in Concordia where he taught and coached for 12 years. George then taught social studies at USD #333 Public School System for 27 years, and coached various sports.

George was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council #1142, both of Concordia. He was a pro-life champion and a prayer intercessor.

George’s faith and family were his priority. He was an avid reader,and enjoyed golfing, calligraphy, running, Notre Dame football, playing cards and most of all spending time with family and friends, especially his beloved grandchildren.

George is survived by his wife Laura Jo of the home in Concordia; three sons, Tony Meyer (Lindy), Concordia, KS; and their seven children, George, Isaac, Erin, Laura, Elizabeth, Clare, and Mary, Ken Meyer, Concordia, KS; &nbsp;Kevin Meyer (Yvette), Marshalltown, IA; and their four children, Brianna, Alexa, Ethan, and Natalie; a daughter, Kathy Meyer, Lawrence, KS.

He was preceded in death by his parents John and Katherine Meyer,&nbsp; grandson Brendan Meyer, brother John Meyer, and sisters Mary Katherine Meyer and Barbara Jean Boyd.

Visitation will be held from 1-8 p.m., Friday, November 19, 2021 at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home.&nbsp;

A parish vigil/rosary service will be prayed at 6:00 p.m., on Friday evening at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home led by Fr. David Metz.&nbsp; Family will greet friends after the rosary service.

She was a native of the Wakefield area, graduated with the class of 1942 from Dickinson County Community High School in Chapman and attended Kansas State College, pursuing her passion for horticulture. She was a 4-H member in Clay County and a National 4-H Congress trip winner in 1945. Following high school, Reva taught at the Diamond and Golden Ridge country schools in Clay County and then at rural Garfield in Dickinson County. On May 12, 1946, she married Dean Hoffman and farmed alongside Dean in Dickinson, Butler and Clay counties before the couple settled south of Pearl, where they lived for nearly 50 years. Reva was very active in the community, serving as a 4-H leader for more than 20 years, as well as a member and officer of both the Dickinson County Republican Women’s Club and the Farm Bureau. She served on the election board for Liberty Township for nearly 40 years and was employed by ALCO-Duckwall for 28 years, retiring at age 86. Although she didn’t complete a college degree, she was a life-long learner and saw to it her four children each graduated from Kansas State University. She always will be remembered for her love of family, her delicious fried chicken, cherry pie, sweet pickles, hot rolls and chocolate cake, but most memorable are her mischievous smile, her gracious demeanor, her passion for nature – especially wild birds and the flowers and plants she generously shared with everyone – and the gentle care she extended to the many baby lambs, pigs and calves that paraded through her home. Reva is survived by sons Dan (Linda) of Edmond, Okla., and Gary of Scottsbluff, Neb.; daughters Deanna (Dee) Weeda (Monty Starlin) of Creston, Iowa, and Sally (Tim) Stroda of Manhattan; grandchildren Matthew (Jenn) Hoffman of St. Augustine, Fla., Daniel (Jenni) Hoffman of Abilene, Cameron Weeda of Creston, Iowa, Candace Weeda Strobbe (Chet) of Cascade, Mont., Jacob (Chelsea) Stroda of Randolph and Wade Stroda of Newton, as well as great-grandchildren Makaela, Mia, Madison and Heston Hoffman. Also surviving are sisters-in-law Roberta Thurlow of Chapman and Bobbie Thurlow of Auburn, Ala., numerous nieces and nephews and her dear family at Chapman Valley Manor, who loved and cared for her the last six years of her life. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Dean in 2015, sister Emily in 1936, and brothers and sisters-in-law Rod and Pearl, Russ and Mary Ann, Stanley and Carol; brothers Don and Wayne along with in-laws Charlotte and Charles E. Wilson, Leola and Mace Grigg, Orla and Bill Owens, Phyllis and Nick Radice, Marjorie Hoffman, Bob and Louise Hoffman; and infant granddaughter Tina Hoffman.
