A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 13 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Clifton, Kansas. Visitation will be held from 3:30-5:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 12 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Clifton, where the rosary will be recited at 5:30.&nbsp;

Dorothy passed away on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at the Hilltop Lodge in Beloit, Kansas at the age of 94.

Dorothy was born to Sylvester and Anna (Koenigsman) Arnoldy on March 13, 1927 in Tipton, Kansas. She graduated from Tipton High School and attended Marymount College in Salina.

Dorothy married Marvin Krier on October 2, 1951 in Tipton. They moved to Beloit in 1951, and five children were born to this marriage – Ruth, Barb, Jerry, Nancy, and Kevin.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Edmund; sisters, Mary Ann, Ottilia, and Loretta; husband, Marvin; daughter, Nancy; and son, Kevin.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Ruth and husband Barry Greiss, Barb Umsheid and Bob Glick, and Jerry; and grandchildren Brandon Umscheid, and Joseph and Jennifer Krier.

Cremation has been chosen and memorial services will take place at a later date.

Survivors include her husband Dale Perez, of Gypsum; daughters Daphne Nusz (Jeff) of Augusta, Dayla Wallick of Gypsum, Diana Pomeroy of Topeka, Danielle Retzlaff (Larry) of Bentley; stepdaughter Trina Perez of Topeka; eight grandchildren: Dayton, Payton, Chandler, Dawson, Deacon, Lorenzo, Koby, Nicholas; and sister Lois Holtz.

She was preceded in death by her brother Leonard Nienke, and sisters Doris Peterman, Betty Ann Pflughoeft, Bernita Snyder, Edith Kohls, Hulda Bricker; and grandson Corbin.

Velma was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church, a Girl Scout leader, daycare provider, and homemaker.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at Ryan Mortuary, Salina, Kansas from 4 to 8 p.m. with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be Thursday, December 9, 2021 at Christ the King Lutheran Church 111 W. Jackie Lee Butterfield, 78, of Salina, Kan., went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 5, 2021.&nbsp; He was born in Inman, Neb., to Justin “Tut” and Mable (Gaughenbaugh) Butterfield on October 11, 1943.&nbsp; 

He leaves behind to cherish his precious memories, his son Lee Butterfield, of Salina; daughter Lori (Butterfield) Betterley, Platte City, Mo.; loving granddaughters Jackie Betterley, Salina, and Cassie Betterley, Kansas City, Mo.; three great-grandchildren, Rylea, Tralynn, and Kagerick; brothers Chuck, Larry, and Danny, and their families; and sister Karen, and her family.&nbsp; 

He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and two sisters. &nbsp;

Jackie enjoyed many things during his life. His biggest love was his family and friends. He always made sure to be there to support his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren by attending all the dance recitals, music programs, and band concerts he could make it to.&nbsp; Jack also tried to attend family reunions, weddings, and birthday parties of extended family and friends. 

His second love was truck driving. His love for driving started with his career at Landstar and lasted 30 years. As much as Jack loved his family, he also loved the open road. He shared this love with his family and took them on many wonderful family vacations. His orneriness and laughter always made these trips even more special. He will always be remembered for his laughter and smile. &nbsp;

The family will be receiving visitors from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, December 9, at Ryan Mortuary, Salina, with service to follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Prospect Hill Cemetery, O’Neill, Neb.

She married Claude Landis on August 19, 1979. 

Phyllis was preceded in death by her father Bill in 1972, and her mother Catherine in 2019; as well as brothers Vernon Hein in 2017, and Charles Hein in 2003. Richard Schaffer of Marion passed away November 15, 2021, at the age of 81. He was born February 7, 1940, near La Crosse, Kansas. His parents were Alex and Rosalia (Legleiter) Schaffer. He was the youngest of ten children. 

He attended the elementary and high school in La Crosse, then joined the Navy. While in the military for four years, he served at Adak, Alaska and Nicosed, Cyprus.

On August 31, 1964, he married Mary Virginia Kreutzer in La Crosse. He later went to college and graduated from KU as a physical therapist. He practiced physical therapy for 35 years. 

He leaves behind his wife Mary Virginia, son Kevin and wife Rhonda, and a daughter Loreen Gates, granddaughters Melanie Garrett, Mackenzie Dinstel, Allison Birklid and great-grandson Aren Dinstel. His only living sibling is his sister Dorothy Cavanagh.

Nancy Kay Slattery, 64, of Abilene, Kansas passed away Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at Memorial Hospital in Abilene, KS.

Born January 24, 1957, in Dodge City, Kansas she was the daughter of Ignatius “Niter” Strecker Slattery and Beatrice “Snooky” Ann Slattery.

Nancy worked at the Ford County Appraiser’s office from 1993 – 2005 where she became the Ford County Appraiser. 

She married John Reiling on April 13, 1995 in Dodge City. 

She was a resident of Great Bend from 2006 – 2021. 

She collected Dreamsicles and various angel décor. She was known for her flowers and gardening, love of reading, baking, crocheting, bowling, shooting pool, and especially her love of animals. She took great pride in supporting the ASPCA.

She is preceded in death by her husband, John Reiling; both her parents, Ignatius and Beatrice Slattery; one sister, Kathy Slattery, and one nephew, Patrick James Slattery.

She is survived by four children, Tandy and husband Jason Boese of Abilene, Blake and wife Tracy Reiling of Kinsley, Megan Hinderliter of Dodge City, and Branagan Reiling of Kinsley; two brothers, Tim and wife LaRae Slattery of Wright, Pat and wife Rhonda Slattery of Kansas City, two sisters, Susie and husband Danny Campbell of Garden City, Lori and husband Kyle Litton of Ingalls, and eight grandchildren, Tiara Bollig, Alexis (Lexi) Hinderliter, Rylan Michael, Declan Zink, Kasey Boese, Ronnie Boese, Chelsea Boese, and Ashtyn Reiling.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. A memorial will be held in Wright, Kansas at a later date.

Ethel Ella (Newell) Zrubek&nbsp;passed away Saturday, November 27, 2021, at the Salina Regional Health Center in Salina, Kansas. She was born on October 21, 1945, to Alfred E. and Marie E. (Knipp) Newell in Hays, Kansas.

In April of 1964 she graduated from Brown Mackie School of Business in Salina, Kansas. She went on to work for the Salina city court, the magistrate court, and was also employed by the Salina police department.

She married Larry A. Zrubek on February 24, 1968, in Damar, Kansas. In 1976 she partnered with husband Larry and started Zrubek Transmission Service which was later sold.

In 1996 Ethel again went to work with husband Larry and son Gary, establishing Larry’s Transmission Repair, thereby building another successful family business where she worked until her passing. 

Ethel’s greatest love was family which is reflected in her volumes of personal dedication to the family genealogy.

She is proceeded in death by parents Alfred E. and Maria E. (Knipp) Newell, brother Maxim E. Newell, sisters Henrietta L. (Tooker), Marlene A. Newell, and sister-in-law Patricia J. Newell&nbsp; &nbsp;

She is survived by husband Larry A. Zrubek, sons Gary A. and wife Laurie (Jeske) Zrubek, Michael A. and wife Becky (Lutz) Zrubek all of Salina; grandchildren Bradley Blair, Kylee Jeske, Ryan Zrubek, Patrick Zrubek, Joshua Zrubek, and Travis Zrubek, Michael Lutz Jr., Amanda Lutz, Mary Ellen Srack, Melissa Lutz, and several great-grandchildren.&nbsp;She is also survived by brothers LeRoy Newell of Salina, Richard Newell of Palco, sisters Wanita Hulett of Milford, and Raenetta Munsterman of Atchison, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Public visitations will be held on Friday, December 10 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Ryan Mortuary, Salina, Kansas.

There will be a Mass at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 11 at the Sacred Heart Cathedral with graveside services following at the Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery Salina, Kansas.

She went on to work for the Salina city court, the magistrate court, and was also employed by the Salina police department.She married Larry A. Zrubek on February 24, 1968, in Damar, Kansas. In 1976 she partnered with husband Larry and started Zrubek Transmission Service which was later sold.In 1996 Ethel again went to work with husband Larry and son Gary, establishing Larry’s Transmission Repair, thereby building another successful family business where she worked until her passing. Ethel’s greatest love was family which is reflected in her volumes of personal dedication to the family genealogy.She is proceeded in death by parents Alfred E. and Maria E. (Knipp) Newell, brother Maxim E. Newell, sisters Henrietta L. (Tooker), Marlene A. Newell, and sister-in-law Patricia J. Newell&nbsp; &nbsp;She is survived by husband Larry A. Major Retired William Everett Garrison Sr., 82, was born in Lebanon, Missouri on October 28, 1939. He was the son of Leroy and Dorothy (Terry) Garrison. He passed away on Monday, November 29, 2021. He graduated from high school in Des Moines, Iowa in 1956. He then joined the Army and was a helicopter mechanic, stationed at Fort Riley where he met his wife Lois (Chestnut) Garrison. They married April 14, 1961 in Oak Hill, Kansas.

He attended flight school in Ft. Rucker, Alabama and retired, after 20 years, from the Army as a Senior Army Aviator with a distinguished career including service in Vietnam with two bronze stars and a silver star. He also earned a national defense service medal, armed forces reserve medal, and an air medal awarded for meritorious achievement and heroism for his aviator service. 

He earned a bachelor's degree at Park College in the Kansas City area. 

After he retired from the military, he was an instructor at Kansas Technical Institute and instrumental in starting the flight program. The college eventually became KSU-Salina. He was an instructor for A &amp; P Mechanics, and a flight instructor for fixed wing and rotor wing aircraft. During the summers he would fly air tours in Branson, Missouri. He also was a crop duster and achieved the Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award presented in 2014 for 50 years of accident-free flight. He and Lois resided in the Longford area for over 40 years. To this union were born five children, William Everett Garrison Jr. (Bobbie Strawder) from Hutchinson, Kansas, Richard J. Garrison (Karen Atchison) from Bennington, Kansas, Ronald E. Garrison (Wendy Emig) from Wichita, Kansas, John E. Garrison (Ann Wisinger) from Salina, Kansas. and Debra M. (Garrison) Lyne (Brad Lyne) from Westfall, Kansas. He is survived by his wife, children, eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Harry Garrison from Jefferson City, Missouri., Gary Garrison (Kay) from Rogersville, Missouri and multiple nieces and nephews. Pat was born in McPherson, Kansas on December 1, 1930, a daughter of Ralph Lawson and Audene Florence (Lusher) Jones. She was one of three daughters born to this union, Barbara, Pat, and Merna. Growing up she was baptized and became a member of the First Christian Church. Pat attended Roosevelt Grade School, McPherson Junior High and graduated from McPherson High School, McPherson, Kansas in 1948. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church McPherson, Kansas where she served as a deacon. Patricia Ann "Patsy" Jones was united in marriage to Frederick William "Fritz" Gatz on July 18, 1948 at the First Christian Church, McPherson, Kansas. The young couple established their first home together in McPherson. This union was blessed with the birth of three daughters, Mindy, Kathy, and Debbie. Pat was a homemaker and she took great pride in providing for her family in this manner. She also worked as the head of the motor vehicles department for McPherson County and co-owned, operated and worked for Bates, Gatz, and Regier Accounting and Income Tax, and was a sales person for Western Associates, Marion, Kansas. Pat was a member of the American Legion Post 24 Ladies Auxiliary, V.F.W. Post 2715 Ladies Auxiliary, the Amity Club, and volunteered and worked at the Apt 6 for the McPherson Opera House. She enjoyed collecting Dreamsicles with Deb, Tom, and Barb, taking trips with Mindy and Greg and nieces each year for the last 10 years, gambling trips with Deb, Tom, and Barb, and going to Hawaii with Mindy and Deb. She also enjoyed fishing, going to garage sales with Tom, and playing with her granddaughter and great-granddaughter. She is survived by her children, Melinda "Mindy" Rhoads and husband Greg, of Marquette, Kansas and Debbie Hamb and husband Tom, of McPherson, Kansas; her granddaughter, Summer Olsen and husband David, of Lindsborg, Kansas; great-granddaughter, Sophie Olsen, of Lindsborg, Kansas; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Audene and Ralph Jones; sisters, Barbara Meats and Merna Pritchard; a daughter, Kathy Gatz; a grandson Jake Rhoads; and her husband Fritz Gatz. Orman attended South Diamond Elementary School, Galva, Kansas and attended Moundridge High School, Moundridge, Kansas. Orman was raised in the Mennonite faith. Through the years Orman worked for Skyline Mobile Home Mfg., Halstead, Kansas, co-owned and operated Champlin Gas Station, McPherson, Kansas and the County of McPherson Solid Waste Department, McPherson, Kansas. Orman enjoyed trap shooting, playing softball, hunting and loved watching his grandkids sporting events and spending time with his friends and family. Orman E. Schmidt was united in marriage to Glenda F. Unruh on Dec. 7, 1957 in Las Cruces, New Mexico . The young couple established their first home together in Moundridge. This union was blessed with the birth of three children, Julie, Jeanne and Larry. In 1977 the family moved to McPherson, Kansas. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Glenda Schmidt, of McPherson, Kansas; his children, Larry Schmidt and his wife Julie, of Chillicothe, Illinois, Jeanne DeWild and her husband Leland, of McPherson, Kansas; his siblings, Chester Schmidt, of Galva, Kansas, Kermit Schmidt, of McPherson, Kansas, Howard Schmidt, of Galva, Kansas and Norman Schmidt, of Moundridge, Kansas. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Amy, Jennifer, Jessica, Rachel, Staci, Lauren, Sydney, Alexis, Zoe, and Addison and seven great-grandchildren, Orman was preceded in death by his parents, Dave and Dena Schmidt; his sisters, Sadie, Esther, Madeline, Ada and Rosie; his brothers, Allen Dean and Beauferd and daughter, Julie Renea Schmidt; Visitation will be held on December 7, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Glidden - Ediger Chapel in McPherson, Kansas. Lois Richards, 94, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 3, 2021, at the Presbyterian Manor in Newton, KS. Lois was born on August 15, 1927, in a cabin on her father’s homestead in Gavilan, New Mexico. She loved the farm life and one of her favorite pastimes was hunting for arrowheads and Indian artifacts. She was one of 14 children born to her parents, ten girls and four boys. She met Jonathan Edwards Allmon who lived with his family in the area, and they married in 1947. They had six children, five boys and one girl. Lois and Johnnie relocated to Lovington, New Mexico and eventually to McPherson, Kansas in 1955. Lois was a wonderful homemaker and mother. She worked as a nurse aide and a school bus driver. Later in life, she married Elmer Richards, and they spent 48 years together.

Lois made wedding cakes and enjoyed bowling and camping. She liked to paint pictures and played musical instruments. She and Elmer enjoyed traveling and loved working on puzzles and games. She loved her dogs, BoBo, Missy, and Benjiboy. Lois was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elmer; infant son, Paul Allmon; son, Delbert Allmon; step-son, Arlen Richards; granddaughter, Charlotte Allmon; grandson, Mark Richards; daughter-in-law, Young Richards; and nine siblings. Evelyn “Jake” was born on May 16th, 1930 to Matilda and George Thomas. She passed on November 26, 2021 at the age of 91 years, 6 months, and 10 days.&nbsp;

 Jake was the middle child of three siblings. She grew up and attended grade school in the rural Hunter area and always rode her horse to school when she could. She graduated from Hunter High School. 

On February 17, 1952, Jake married the love of her life, Richard Keller. Together they were blessed with a son, Rick, and a daughter, Kathy.

Jake and her family attended the United Methodist Church. Then when she got married, she was confirmed into the Trinity Lutheran Church.

Jake and Richard shared a love for farming and raising livestock together. Jake spent her whole life as a very hard-working farmer; despite being small in stature, she was mighty and there was no job too big for her, she worked harder than most men. While she loved the farm animals, her true passion was gardening and flowers; she always had the most impressive vegetable harvest and most beautiful flowerbeds.&nbsp; Because of that, their farm always looked picture-perfect like it could be in a magazine.

Richard and Jake loved to travel and had the pleasure of traveling to 48 states together.&nbsp; She enjoyed collecting spoons and thimbles from each place they visited.

We will never be able to imagine all the laughs they had on those road trips, but we are certain they were plentiful. Richard was known for his orneriness and he would stop at no amount of silliness to get her to giggling, which she absolutely loved about him. She would get so tickled and they always had so much fun together.

When it came to talents, she had many; there was really nothing she couldn’t do. But baking might have been the favorite of her family and friends. Not only did she love to bake, but also she was very good at it. She was always making all kinds of sweets for friends and family to enjoy. Her family best knew her for her famous cinnamon rolls.

Jake had the definition of a servant heart and would do anything for anyone. She brought joy to everyone she was around.&nbsp; She was the sweetest, kindest, most caring, and genuine person you could ever meet.&nbsp; For being so small, she had the hugest heart and her smile and laugh would truly light up the room.

Above all else, Jake’s greatest joy was spending time with her family and she especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They meant the world to her.She was so much fun to be around and had the best sense of humor; she was the joy of all our family get-togethers and will be greatly missed.

Mary Ann’s life began on Sunday June 9, 1946, in Saugus, MA. She was the daughter of Arthur B. and Frances (Gerty) Holmes. 

Her family moved to Kansas when she was young and it was here that she met and married Billy Smithhart on August 25, 1963, in Newton. 

Mary Ann worked for several area businesses like Marion Manor and an egg processor in Newton but her favorite job was the eighteen plus years she made donuts at Carlson’s Grocery in Marion. 

She loved visiting her family and she was the family caregiver. Mary Ann took care of both her parents at the end of their lives. 

Her loving family includes her husband Billy of Marion; children Mary Frances Pankratz of Salina and Charles (Lori’Ann) Smithhart of Hillsboro; siblings Tommy (Chris) Holmes of Wichita and nephews and niece Sharon Mitchell, Stephen Smith, and Frank Smith. 

Mary Ann passed away on Thursday, December 2, 2021, at NMC Health in Newton. She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Ellen Smith and brother Jimmy Holmes. 

Her family will gather with friends to share stories on Friday, December 10, 2021, from 5-7 p.m. at Yazel Megli Funeral Home, Marion. She will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Newton at a later date. 

Mary Ann’s one wish for us all is that we all get vaccinated and memorial contributions in her name may be directed to NMC Health Foundation for use in the Critical Care Unit.

She was the daughter of Arthur B. and Frances (Gerty) Holmes. Her family moved to Kansas when she was young and it was here that she met and married Billy Smithhart on August 25, 1963, in Newton. Mary Ann worked for several area businesses like Marion Manor and an egg processor in Newton but her favorite job was the eighteen plus years she made donuts at Carlson’s Grocery in Marion. She loved visiting her family and she was the family caregiver. Mary Ann took care of both her parents at the end of their lives. Her loving family includes her husband Billy of Marion; children Mary Frances Pankratz of Salina and Charles (Lori’Ann) Smithhart of Hillsboro; siblings Tommy (Chris) Holmes of Wichita and nephews and niece Sharon Mitchell, Stephen Smith, and Frank Smith. Mary Ann passed away on Thursday, December 2, 2021, at NMC Health in Newton. She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Ellen Smith and brother Jimmy Holmes. Her family will gather with friends to share stories on Friday, December 10, 2021, from 5-7 p.m. at Yazel Megli Funeral Home, Marion. She will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Newton at a later date. Bill’s life began on Monday, August 6, 1934, in Newton, KS. He was the son of Arthur J. and Mabel (Willey) Robinson. Bill was a class of 1952 graduate of Florence High School. 

He was united in marriage to Beverly Lambert on July 9, 1955, and she preceded him in death on September 1, 1989. Bill married again to the former Edna (Rothgeb) Rausch on November 16, 1996, in Longton, KS. 

He was a cattleman and rancher on the family property that has been in the family since 1903. In 1956 he married Beverly and moved to Chase County where he worked for Crofoot Cattle Company while Bev attended KSTC. In 1964 he returned to the farm where they raised their family and he continued to live. Bill was a farmer/stockman while the children were growing up. He also worked in Newton at Kinder/Congoleum Furniture Manufacturing, driving a truck, and later, as a dispatcher and manager. The kids each remember getting to go with him on a couple of short trips in the truck.

Bill was a member of the Florence United Methodist Church, National Cattlemen’s Beef Association and a charter member of the Kansas Livestock Association. He enjoyed working with his feeder cattle, watching sports and especially K-State basketball. 

His great joy was his family which includes his wife Edna of Florence; children Mark Robinson of Marion, Cheryl ( Don) Doty of Emporia and Linda (Greg) Carlson of Marion; grandchildren Sam ( Sharon) Doty, Carla (Dave) Tharp, Jenni (Bryce) Holbrook, Nick (Ashley) Carlson, Melissa ( Jake) Smith, Beverly (Kaleb) Knoettgen and Cordell Robinson; great-grandchildren Jacob, Ryan, Claire, Justus, Makinna, Laekyn, Devin, Maisie, Ella, Millie, Evie and Chase; his siblings Edwin Robinson of Florence, and Mary Ann (Troy) Craig of Henderson, TX.

Bill passed away on Thursday, December 2, 2021, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Marion. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Beverly, brother Claire, and granddaughter Mattie.
