Mary Mae Schmidt, 87, of Buhler, Kansas passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at the Hospice House in Hutchinson. She was born October 28, 1934, to Issac A. and Katherine (Flaming) Fast in Carson Township of Cottonwood County, Minnesota. She received her education in a country school and Mountain Lake High School, graduating in 1952. She took an accounting course at Mankato Business School in Mankato, MN. Mary Mae was baptized upon her confession of faith in 1950 and became a member of the Bethel Mennonite Church, Mountain Lake, MN. After her marriage, she transferred her membership to Buhler Mennonite Church, Buhler, KS. On October 15, 1955, Mary was united in marriage to Alfred Schmidt at the Bethel Mennonite Church in Mountain Lake, MN. After their marriage, they established their home in Buhler. To this union, one son, Kenneth Duane, was born on October 25, 1956. Mary worked in banking for 34 years in Minnesota, Hutchinson and Buhler, retiring in 2003. She is survived by her two granddaughters Jessica Vaile and Misty (Leo) Xicum Ku; daughter-in-law Cindy; stepgrandson Ryan (Chelsea) Penner; five great-grandchildren, Christian and Connor Vaile, and Kai, Hazel and Koa Xicum; two stepgreat-grandchildren; brother Marlyn (Amanda) Fast; sisters-in-law Marilyn and Janice; and many nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her husband Alfred; son Kenneth; parents; sisters Ardella, Rosella, and Luella; and brothers Peter (Esther), Irvin, and Albert. A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, October 28, 2022 at Buhler Mennonite Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Michael W. Jones, 70, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 23, 2022, surrounded by family at Brookdale of McPherson where he had resided for the past three months during a short battle with cancer.

Michael was born on August 3, 1952, in McPherson, KS, the son of Robert K. and Velma L. (Rickner) Jones.&nbsp; 

He graduated from North Kingstown, RI High School in 1970.&nbsp; 

He received an associate degree in architectural engineering from State Technical Institute in Memphis, TN. &nbsp;After college, he went to work for a prominent architect, John Millard, Jr., for three years before returning to McPherson, KS in 1976.&nbsp; He then worked for Johns Manville for 38 years, retiring in 2015.

His enjoyments were woodworking, fish keeping (in aquariums), dogs, and Thanksgiving family get togethers.

Survivors include his aunt, Joyce Ricr of Wichita, KS; cousins Glenyce (Tom) Maestas, Cheryl (Numa) Dupont, Darryl (Kathy) Rickner, Norma Sue Rockenbach, Gemma Rickner, Lori (Randy) Hurst, Diane (Brent) Rotha, Denny (Helen) Allison, Dean Allison, Shari (Daryl) Becker, Kim (Tom) Klocek, and Jeff Allison; and many more extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; aunts and uncles Glen and Pauline Rickner, Norman and Mary Jane Rickner, Mary Allison, and Keith Rickner; and cousins Larry Rickner, Charlene Rickner, Courtney Allison, and Rocky Rockenbach.

Myron “Bud” Wohler, age 92, died at Advena Living Center in Clay Center, KS on October 23, 2022. He was born in Leonardville, KS on March 21, 1930, to Myron Sr. and Wobina (Leipersberger) Wohler. 

Bud moved with his parents to a farm east of Clay Center where he attended Upper Lincoln School. They later moved to the southwest side of Clay Center, where he attended Redtop also known as Blaine School through 8th&nbsp;grade.&nbsp; He graduated from Clay Center Community High School in 1948. 

He married Lucille Largent on June 12, 1949. They made their home outside Clay Center. 

Bud worked for Cities Service Oil Co., Riddle Quarries and substituted for the rural mail routes and city routes at Christmas time, along&nbsp; with farming. He started Grade A Dairy in 1967 and later added Angus cattle.&nbsp; Bud enjoyed going to the pasture to check cows and cut the pesky little cedar trees. 

He also enjoyed visits from his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Upon his retirement he took up woodworking. 

Bud was a member of the Presbyterian Church, a former member of Dairy Farmers of America, and previously had a seat on the Coop and Rural Water Board. 

He is preceded in death by his parents and son Doug

Linda Kay Bryan was born on April 17, 1950, in Kansas City, KS. She is the daughter of Harry Forbes and Oma “Midge” (McKay) Smith. 

She graduated in 1968 from Gardner Edgerton High School, in Gardner, KS.

Linda was an avid reader and never went anywhere without a book. She loved cheering on the Kansas Chiefs. She enjoyed baking and was best known for her ribs and her Texas sheet cake.

Linda’s family includes her children Chris (Layla) Bryan, Kim Morris; grandchildren Colton Bryan, Lexi Bryan, Ty Morris, Tucker Morris; sister Paula “Mim” Simpson; nieces Megan Anders, Jessie Simpson, Ashley Stevens; nephews Clinton Forbes, Jeremy Simpson.&nbsp;

Linda, at the age of 72, passed away on October 24, 2022, in Herington, KS.

Ginny was married to Harry Francisco for fourteen years. They had three children together, Cheryl Hedge, Natalie Akin, and Gregory Francisco.

Ginny married Bill Denney in 1971, Bill passed away May 1st, 2006.

Ginny graduated from Great Bend High School in 1957. She was a secretary and typist most of her life. She also sold Avon for 21 years, had a daycare, and was a paraeducator for USD 305.

She was preceded in death by her parents Miles and Ruth Clark, a sister, Phyllis (Chambers) Breckson, 2007, a brother, Larry John Clark who passed at the age of 4 months, and her son, Gregory Francisco, 2003.

Ginny's survivors include her children Cheryl Hedge and husband Troy of Royse City, Texas, Natalie Akin of Colorado Springs, Colorado, along with six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, 2:00 p.m. ~ 6:00 p.m., October 25, 2022, at Roselawn Heights Memorial Chapel, 1920 East Crawford, Salina.

LaVeda May Tallent was born on May 14th, 1940, to George and Sylvia (Houdek) Leshosky. LaVeda grew up in Belleville, graduating from Belleville High School, class of 1957.

She was united in marriage to Kenneth L. Tallent on April 12, 1959, and to this union two children were born, Rhonda and David. 

LaVeda worked at Continental Telephone in Courtland, and then KPL in Concordia before LaVeda and Kenny relocated to Topeka, where LaVeda worked as a Customer Service Representative at ONEOK Gas before her retirement.

She was a member of the Auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and she enjoyed nature and animals. In her younger years, she enjoyed gardening and then canning the produce and fruits that she grew. In her older years, she enjoyed spending time with family and attending her grandsons’ school and other activities.

LaVeda passed away on October 20, 2022, at the age of 82 years, 5 months and 6 days.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Kenneth in 1996, and sister LaRee Johnson.

She is survived by her daughter Rhonda Tietjen and her husband Curt of Chester, son David Tallent, grandson Josh Tietjen and his wife Heidi, and grandson Justin Tietjen. LaVeda is also survived by her brother-in-law Ron Johnson, niece Melanie Marez and her husband Larry, great-niece Sharon Marez, along with other relatives, cousins and many friends.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at 10:00 a.m., at Tibbetts-Fischer Funeral Home in Belleville. Burial will follow at the Belleville City Cemetery.

Doug grew up in Hill City, Kansas, graduating from Hill City High School in 1960.&nbsp;&nbsp;

In 1963, he was united in marriage to Mary Kerr and to this union was born, Don, Bill and Bruce. They were later divorced in 1985.

Doug worked for the U.S. Postal Service in the '70s and later was employed at CE Manufacturing from 1976 until 1980. He then returned to the Postal Service until his retirement. Doug also farmed part-time most of his life.

He loved to take his boys hunting and to baseball games. He was a big sports fan and loved the royals and the ksu wildcats. He coached all of his kids in baseball. Doug loved to play baseball and was quite good at it and he played softball until he was in his late 40s traveling around Kansas and Nebraska paying fast pitch. You didn’t want to get hit by one of his dirt clods!

He was preceded in death by his parents William and Mary Fate.

Doug is survived by three sons, Don (Diana) Fate, Bill (Robyn) Fate, and&nbsp; Bruce (Kristi) Fate; grandchildren Zach (Samantha) Fate, Mallory (Lane) Lassiter, Savannah Fate, Karli Fate, Riley Fate, and Delaney Fate; one brother, David (Tasha) Fate;&nbsp; three sisters, Mary Ann (Howard) Gomer,&nbsp; Margaret (Doug) Mall,&nbsp;and Darlene (Jerry) Baker;&nbsp; other relatives and friends.

Cremation was selected and graveside memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 29, 2022 at the Zion Cemetery, rural Belleville, Kansas.

Inurnment will follow the memorial services.

Friends may call to sign the register book from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Faith Hospice in care of the funeral home.

Ronald Lee Reed, the son of Lloyd V. Reed and Blanche H. (Sharp) Reed, was born on September 14, 1942, in Flagler, Colorado. He died on October 22, 2022, at Smith Center Health and Rehab in Smith Center, Kansas.

Ronald was one of nine children born to Lloyd and Blanche. He was raised on a farm south of Flagler, Colorado, and he graduated from Flagler High School in 1960. 

He was united in marriage to Dianna Faye Rogers on September 22, 1963, in Flagler, Colorado, and to this union was born two children.

Ron joined the Colorado State Patrol in 1966, where he served for 11 years. He then took a position with Colowyo Coal Mine in Meeker, Colorado, as a safety engineer. In 1979, Ron’s love for the farm prompted him to move his family to Esbon, Kansas, and they started Reed’s Dairy. In 1981, upon the death of his sister, Ron brought his nephew home from Colorado.

Ron served on the Mid-America Dairy Board of Directors, the Central Area Council Board of Dairy Farmers of America, Mid-West Dairy Association Board, American Dairy Association Board, and he was the president of the White Rock School Board for eight years.

Ron is preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings.

He is survived by his wife Dianna of the home, sister Eleanor Short of Vale, Oregon, daughter Tanna Lee Miller (Glen) of Lyons, Kansas, son James Dee Reed (Linda) of Esbon, Kansas; nephew Matthew Eli Levin (Karolyn) of Verona, Wisconsin, granddaughter Amanda Lee Stone of Hutchinson, Kansas, grandson Landon James Reed (Mayela) of Manhattan, Kansas, grandson Derryck Flavion Walker of Glasco, Kansas, granddaughter Emily Sue Pierce (Daniel) of Mankato, Kansas, great-grandson Waylon Henry Pierce of Mankato, Kansas, great-nieces and nephews Jessica, Essie, Ryan, Tanner and Alex, along with numerous nephews, nieces and many friends.

Bruce Edward Bigler, 74, of Clay Center, died Sunday, October 23, 2022 at the Clay Center Presbyterian Manor.&nbsp; He was born on August 26, 1948 in Clay Center, the son of Jacob and Mae (Talbot) Bigler.

He retired from the Union Pacific Railroad after over 30 years. Before that, he served three years in the Army and was a Vietnam veteran. Bruce participated in the Veterans Honor Flight in 2018.

Bruce was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, and trapping. He even got his picture in the paper in the '80s for a record catfish from the Republican River.

Bruce was preceded in death by his wife Joyce Bigler, his parents Mae and Jacob Bigler, Sr., and sisters LaNora Eschelman and Connie Hullum.

Bruce is survived by his brothers Jacob Bigler, Jr. and wife Sharon of Wichita, KS and James Bigler and wife Yolanda of Van Nuys, CA, and his eight nieces and nephews, Deborah Bigler, Chris Jones, Pam Riley, David Bigler, Patti Soliman, Ric Rosenkranz, Paula Riley-Ring, and Justin Bigler.

He is also survived by great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.

 </figure><a href="https://www.nsrfh.com/obituary/bruce-bigler">Obituary | Bruce Bigler | Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home (nsrfh.com)</a>August 26, 1948 - October 23, 2022Bruce Edward Bigler, 74, of Clay Center, died Sunday, October 23, 2022 at the Clay Center Presbyterian Manor.&nbsp; He was born on August 26, 1948 in Clay Center, the son of Jacob and Mae (Talbot) Bigler.He retired from the Union Pacific Railroad after over 30 years. Before that, he served three years in the Army and was a Vietnam veteran. Bruce participated in the Veterans Honor Flight in 2018.Bruce was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, and trapping. He even got his picture in the paper in the '80s for a record catfish from the Republican River.Bruce was preceded in death by his wife Joyce Bigler, his parents Mae and Jacob Bigler, Sr., and sisters LaNora Eschelman and Connie Hullum.Bruce is survived by his brothers Jacob Bigler, Jr. and wife Sharon of Wichita, KS and James Bigler and wife Yolanda of Van Nuys, CA, and his eight nieces and nephews, Deborah Bigler, Chris Jones, Pam Riley, David Bigler, Patti Soliman, Ric Rosenkranz, Paula Riley-Ring, and Justin Bigler.He is also survived by great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Kansas Honor Flight in his name and can be sent in care of the Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home.We sincerely thank the Presbyterian Manor and Meadowlark Hospice for caring for our uncle. It was clear that they cared about him and we appreciate them greatly.Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 29th at 10:30 a.m. at the Clay Center United Methodist Church. Respect calls will be held at the church on Saturday, from 9:30 Aa.m. until service time.Interment will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery in Clay Center.

Delores Ann Case, 83, died October 23, 2022 in Manhattan, KS.&nbsp; She was born on December 27, 1938 in Idana, the daughter of Clifford and Bessie (Frazier) Haden.&nbsp; 

Delores was a Class of 1957 graduate of the Clay Center High School.&nbsp; She worked as a cashier and bookkeeper for Boogaarts and Kiers grocery stores for many years.&nbsp;&nbsp; 

Delores was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, and two brothers.

James Lee Stalcup was born on November 15, 1949 in Wichita, Kansas, the son of Verdun and Vera Stalcup. He died on October 18, 2022 at the Downs Care and Rehab Center in Downs, Kansas at the age of 72.

He died on October 18, 2022 at the Downs Care and Rehab Center in Downs, Kansas at the age of 72.Jim graduated from Derby High School in 1968, and served as a Sedgwick County fireman and EMT. He also worked at the Sedgwick County Zoo.On March 31, 1979, he was united in marriage with Debra Neifert. Two daughters, Rebecca and Stefanie were born to this union.The family moved to Glen Elder, where he started working for the school district. He served many roles with the school before retiring. Upon retirement, he worked many odd jobs to fill his time.Jim enjoyed coin collecting, coaching his daughters’ softball teams, fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family, grandchildren, and cats.Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Debra of the home; daughters Rebecca and husband Tony Prochaska of Simpson, and Stefanie and husband Trevor Gardner of Glen Elder; sister Emilie Lockett of Hinesville, Georgia; and grandchildren Sage and Jacob Prochaska, and Elizabeth Gardner.Graveside memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 25 at the Glenwood Cemetery in Glen Elder. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation.
