William Jay Braden, 77 of McPherson KS passed away at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 26th at his residence with his loving wife and family by his side.

William was born in Sacramento, California on December 6th, 1944, a son of the late Lois Lorraine (Jordan) and Robert Amos Braden.

He worked for Pyle Construction before going into business for himself, owning B&amp;B Masonry. He spent many years loving his experiences working alongside his family before retiring in 2014.

William Jay Braden was united in marriage to Phyllis June Wilson in Salida, Colorado. 

He is survived by his loving wife June Braden (Margaret) of McPherson, KS; sons Terry Braden of Colorado, Steve Braden of Kansas City, Missouri, and Jason Wilson of McPherson KS; daughter Stephaine Oakes (Steve Oakes) of McPherson KS. He has 14 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, as well as all of his bonus children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

William was preceded in death by his parents, his sons Ty and Doug Braden, his four brothers and three sisters, his grandson Jon Paul Oakes, and daughter-in-law Judy Braden.

His hobbies were fishing, hunting, traveling, and especially spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Public visitation will be held from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at Glidden-Ediger-Wiggins Chapel in McPherson KS.

Dr. Gilford J. Ikenberry, Jr., 92, of McPherson, KS, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 22, 2022, surrounded by family at The Cedars, McPherson.

Gilford John Ikenberry, Jr. was born the day after Christmas 1929 in Fargo, North Dakota, where his father taught botany at North Dakota State University. 

The family of three moved frequently during the Great Depression, and young Gilford’s boyhood residences ranged from Columbus, Ohio, to Kansas, to Berkeley, California, to Portales, New Mexico. He began fourth grade in Stillwater, Oklahoma, graduating from Stillwater High School in 1948. Gilford’s father had some friends on the faculty at McPherson College, including R. E. Mohler and Joseph Bowman, and other relatives lived close to campus, so McPherson seemed a good option for Gilford, Jr.’s post-secondary schooling.

While Gilford made his career and reputation as a botanist, he did his undergraduate degree at McPherson College in mathematics. His interest in music extended back to his childhood, and during his college years he sang bass in acappella choir and in male quartets, representing the college on many deputations during his four years. 

During his freshman year, a young coed from Dallas Center, Iowa, captured Gilford’s attention, and he and Nelda Jeanine Baldner married in 1951, prior to their senior year. 

Their union bore three children—Susan, John, and Nick—and the joy and stimulation Gilford and Nelda received from one another’s companionship over 71 years of marriage is inspirational.

After college Gilford taught at McLouth, Kansas, for two years. He began taking classes at Oklahoma State University and discovered that he shared his father’s passion for botany. He completed the M.S. in botany and plant pathology at OSU in 1956, moving to Iowa State University to pursue a doctoral degree, which he received in 1959. He accepted a position at Michigan State University where he continued research in plant pathology. In 1961, McPherson College’s president Dr. Bittinger convinced Gilford to accept a position at McPherson College.

When Dr. Ikenberry moved into his Harnly Hall office in the fall of 1961 and began setting up a greenhouse and labs, the most respected, celebrated faculty team in the history of McPherson College was complete. For the next 25 years, Dr. Ikenberry teamed with Dr. John Burkholder and Dr. Wesley DeCoursey to produce class after class of outstanding science graduates, more than 250 in all, who went on to become successful researchers, physicians, surgeons, dentists, veterinarians, teachers, and academics.

Gilford was always characteristically modest about his part in the remarkable success of his students, dismissing the notion that he shared responsibility for their achievement. The role of the teacher, he said, “is simply to provide a stimulating environment so that learning may happen.” When students take off, “it’s fun to get out of the way and let them go.” 

One of the many ways Dr. Ikenberry excelled in creating the kind of environment that stimulated student learning was in his design of academic field trips. Hundreds of students learned how to think about the natural world by studying the ecosystems of the desert Southwest, the tropics of Belize and Costa Rica, the marine biology of coastal Oregon, and the high-altitude wilderness of the Rocky Mountains in January and summer travel courses that he planned and taught.

For nearly all his life, Gilford spent summers with family at their Black River Harbor cottages on Lake Superior. Summer months with their children, grandsons, family, and friends were spent hiking the trails of the northern Michigan woods, walking the beaches of Lake Superior, exploring Black River’s great waterfalls, identifying and photographing plants, trees, and fungi, taking the boat up the beach to explore remote spots, or going fishing on Michigan’s many smaller lakes. He also enjoyed woodworking and refurbishing the cottages at Black River.

Gilford cared deeply about nature and spent most of his years exploring rich, natural environments around the globe with his love and partner, Nelda. They hiked and hut-hopped in the Austrian and Swiss Alps, explored the wilds of Scotland and Ireland, visited historic churches in Germany, and enjoyed concerts in Vienna. In addition to exploring the flora and fauna of China and Central America, they spent many months researching the work of botanist/great aunt Mary Clemens who collected and identified plants in Papua, New Guinea, Indonesia, Australia, and other parts of the South Pacific in the early 1900s. Gilford was an accomplished photographer, and he and Nelda are well- known for their beautiful slideshow presentations that detail their international adventures.

Gilford Ikenberry’s other contributions to his college, church, and community are numerous. He and Nelda have given generously to their church and their alma mater.

Guided by a strong sense of what is just and right, he supported organizations committed to preserving the environment, redressing inequities, and improving the health and well- being of our neighbors, in our country or around the globe. 

Gilford sang in the choir of the McPherson Church of the Brethren when he was at home in McPherson. He also served his local congregation on many church boards and commissions. He has been an active Rotarian for more than 40 years.

Gilford’s value-led life, his belief in the potential and abilities of family and friends, his mentorship of students and interest in their careers over the years, and his commitment to concerns of the environment, equity, and justice are only a few of the ways he has impacted and inspired so many of our lives. Through 71 years of his life’s journey, he was joined by his wife Nelda who was an equal partner in all their adventures.

Survivors include wife, Nelda Jeanine Baldner Ikenberry, McPherson, Kansas; daughter Susan Jeanine Ikenberry and husband John Fredrick Humphrey, Black Mountain, North Carolina; son Gilford John Ikenberry, 3rd&nbsp;and wife Lidia Reiko Usami, Princeton, New Jersey; son Nicolas Scot Ikenberry, McPherson, Kansas; grandson Brett Johannes Ikenberry-Humphrey, Wilmington, North Carolina; grandson Jackson Kan Ikenberry, Princeton, New Jersey.

Preceded in death by father Gilford John Ikenberry, Sr. (1890 to 1984); mother Ruth Clemens Ikenberry (1894 to 1996); granddaughter Tessa Mariko Usami Ikenberry (1995 to 1999).

Samuel A. “Sam” Smith, Jr.&nbsp;77, passed away peacefully at his home Saturday, October 22, 2022. Sam was born in Salina, Kansas on February 26, 1945 to Sam and Edith May (Kean) Smith.

At the age of two, Sam’s family moved to Abilene, KS where he grew up and went to school. He played football and basketball for Abilene High School, and played baseball in the summer.

Sam joined the Army in 1963, he was stationed in Germany after completing boot camp in Missouri. Sam returned from the Army in 1966 to settle in Salina once again.

He worked at Beechcraft/ Raytheon/ Hawker Beechcraft for 42 years. He was a “rivet pounder” and a crew chief in the wing department, an analyst and eventually a tool planner, before retiring in 2009. Sam was an avid Chiefs fan, a Royals fan and enjoyed John Wayne movies and memorabilia.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents and sister Edith Mary.

Sam is survived by his children Bob, Becky (Bill) Simhiser, and Pam (Wayne “Buddy”) Boyd; his five grandchildren, AJ (Liz) Boyd, Tara Simhiser, Maranda Simhiser, Nathan (Ana) Simhiser, and Wyatt Boyd. He is also survived by one great-granddaughter and two great-grandsons.

A memorial service will be held in his honor at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 12, 2022 at Ray Avenue Baptist Church, 2801 E. Ray Ave, Salina KS.

Roger N. Whelchel,&nbsp;85, Solomon, passed away October 27, 2022 at Brookdale-Fairdale Senior Living in Salina, KS. He was born July 28, 1937 at home on Magnolia Road, Salina, KS, the son George N and Elizabeth (Weburg) Whelchel.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Chloris Chapman and Phyllis McGowan; and brothers Kenneth Whelchel and Donald D Whelchel.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce, of the home; sons Kevin Whelchel (Maureen) of Solomon, and Nathan Whelchel (Melissa) of Salina; daughters Brenda Whelchel-Bayless (Steve) of Topeka, and Kala Wood (F. David) of Solomon; seven grandchildren, Kate McCluskey (Ryan) of Shawnee, Ryan Whelchel (Emily) of Fisher’s, IN, Keith Whelchel (Sydney), Trenton Wood, Drew Wood, Matthew Whelchel, and Ashley Whelchel of Salina; and two great-grandchildren, Molly Whelchel of Salina and Eleanor McCluskey of Shawnee.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 4, 2022 at Ryan Mortuary, Salina. Interment will be later that day at Grand Center Cemetery, Waldo. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov 3, at the mortuary, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. that evening.

On Tuesday October 25, 2022 Charles Dewain May age 90, beloved Dad, Grandpa, Great-Grandpa, Brother, Uncle and friend to many passed away in Salina, Kansas surrounded by family.

Charles was born to Maude Della (Fink) and Harry Clay May in Codell, Kansas on July 8, 1932.

He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Navy as an&nbsp;Aviation Machinists Mate 3rd Class. 

Following his honorable discharge, he married Bernita May (Bates) on June 19, 1955 in Lucas, Kansas.&nbsp; 

Charles then attended Kansas State University where he received a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and went on to a full career as a Civil Engineer earning his Professional Engineering License along the way.&nbsp;One of the&nbsp;biggest joys in his career was the opportunity to share his knowledge, mentor and teach others. He taught Civil Engineering Technology at Kansas Technical Institute early in his career and he gave back to his profession post retirement by teaching Certified Inspector Training (CIT) at Kansas State University Salina campus for several years.

Charles was an avid woodworker.&nbsp; Following retirement, he spent countless hours perfecting his craft in his shop and loved to share his woodworking talents. Many who knew him have cherished works that he created and gifted over the years. Time spent with his family and especially his grandchildren was the absolute light of his life as he spent many days traveling to watch their activities over the years.

Charles was a dedicated Mason with a 60+ year membership of the Masonic Lodge of Marion, KS where he achieved the rank of 32nd degree. He was also an active Shriner in Salina, Kansas in his younger years.

Charles was preceded in death by his loving wife Bernita; father Harry Clay, his mother Maude, three sisters and five brothers.&nbsp;

He is survived by his daughters Traci Lamar (Mike) of Raleigh, North Carolina, Sally Crawford (Rod) of Salina, Kansas; son Chuck May (Marianne) of Wichita, Kansas; his six grandchildren, Morgan (Erica), Charles (Fatima), Trey (Lydia), Paige, Rhiana, Robby, and four great-grandchildren, Emerson, Ellie, Zoey and Eva;&nbsp;his brother Bob May of Hays, Kansas; and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life and Memorial Service will be held on Friday November 11, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home in Salina, Kansas. Family burial to follow at the Lucas Cemetery in Lucas, Kansas.

Ronald “Ron” Legleiter, age 77, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away Thursday, October 27, 2022, in Overland Park. Ron was born August 9, 1945, in Hays, Kansas, to Julius and Olivia (Befort) Legleiter. Ron was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Military Academy. On April 19, 1965, he married Helen (Gottschalk) Legleiter in Hays. She preceded him in death on August 31, 2015. Ron worked for UPS where he drove a semi for over 25 years.&nbsp; He also managed their short-term disability fund.&nbsp; He was actively involved with the Knights of Columbus, enjoyed mowing at the City of Overland Park golf course after retiring from UPS, golfing, spending time with his grandkids - and rarely missed any of their activities and sporting events, and he enjoyed listening to polka music. He was a US Army veteran serving during peacetime and he was a member of Ascension Catholic Church in Overland Park. Survivors include a son, Scott Davis (Paula) of McPherson, KS; three grandchildren, Tyler Davis (Taylor), Tyson Davis, and Emily Delk (Cody); four great-grandchildren, Leah Jackson, Josie Davis, Bowen Davis, and Waylon Delk; a nephew, Paul Pope; three nieces, Dede Moore, Diana Day, and Collette Moore; and a brother-in-law, Joe Moore.

 She worked for the Extension Office in Marion for several years and later as an engineering tech for KDOT.&nbsp; 

Karen was united in marriage to Robert Ehrlich on June 16, 1979, at the Marion Christian Church where she was an active member.&nbsp; Family was very important to Karen and Bob.&nbsp; She loved her children and grandchildren.&nbsp;

She is the daughter of Alfred and Darlene (Helbach) Sondergard.&nbsp; Karen was a 1963 graduate of Centre High School.&nbsp; She worked for the Extension Office in Marion for several years and later as an engineering tech for KDOT.&nbsp; Karen was united in marriage to Robert Ehrlich on June 16, 1979, at the Marion Christian Church where she was an active member.&nbsp; Family was very important to Karen and Bob.&nbsp; She loved her children and grandchildren.&nbsp;Karen is survived by Mike (Kathy) Ehrlich of Marion, Gary (Diane) Ehrlich of Dodge City, Julie (David) Sellmeyer of Vinita, OK, Sheri Schwab of Raleigh, NC, and Lorie (Alan) Salts of Leawood, KS.; grandchildren Sam ( Nyalok Nhial) Ehrlich, Katey ( Derek) Evans, Wyatt (Ricky Acero) Ehrlich, Dr. Codi ( Reuben Jimenez) Ehrlich, M.D., Sam Salts and Shae Salts; great grandchildren Kaimey, Skylar and Archer; sisters Marilyn (Jim) Peterson of Burdick and Kaye ( Lyle Cirkel) Risser of Tecumseh, OK; and several nieces and nephews.&nbsp;Karen passed away on Saturday September 24, 2022, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Marion.&nbsp; On August 12, 1926 Margaret entered this world, the ninth of eleven children born to Abraham “A.T.” and Anna (Ediger) Neufeld. 

Her growing up years were spent working and playing on their farm west of Inman. Many fond stories were told of these years, as she and her siblings learned to live on little and laugh a lot.

 From a young age, Margaret dreamed of someday being a nurse. She attended Little Valley Grade School in Little Valley Township and graduated from Inman High School. After high school Margaret began nurse's training at the Bethel Deaconess Hospital. Those years were special to her and she formed a number of lifelong friendships with her nursing classmates, the March Winds, as they called themselves. 

During her nursing tenure, she was invited to W.F. and Esther Wiebe’s for an evening of table games. It was there that she met Richard Wiebe from Whitewater. That acquaintance progressed from friendship to courtship and from courtship to love. They were married August 12, 1951 at the Bethel Mennonite Church near Inman, KS.

Mom enthusiastically joined Dad in his life and work. They farmed for a living, but they didn’t live to farm. Rather they lived to glorify the Lord and serve the people in their lives. 

Seven children were born to them and became their primary work. They poured themselves into training us to live life according to scriptural principles. We often heard Mom say, “Dad and I are one!” Mom taught us much with her words and even more with her example.

She faithfully sought to be the wife and mother described in Proverbs 31:

● She “looks to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.”

● She “opens her mouth with wisdom and teaches with kindness.”

● She “clothes herself with strength and dignity.”

We often heard her singing when we were growing up. Sometimes it was hymns for her own encouragement, and other times her singing was for our instruction. “Grumble on Monday, grumble on Tuesday, grumble the whole week through…”, or “Angry words, oh let them never...” were a couple of instructive songs we heard from her when our attitudes were not right. She was a “mentor” long before the term became popular as she mentored her children and other individuals God brought into her life. 

She enjoyed many things, like flowers, baking, a cup of coffee, and visiting with friends. There were also things she didn’t enjoy like snakes, butchering chickens (butchering in general), driving (she always had one foot on the accelerator and the other foot on the brake), beets, hominy, washing the milk buckets, and a few other things, but we rarely noticed because she wasn’t a complainer.

Mom generally loved life and had a ready smile and a cheerful disposition. It was a rare occasion for her to turn down the opportunity to attend church, watch her kids or grandkids compete in a ballgame, or go to one of her family’s homes for a visit. She loved her Neufeld family and the Christmas gathering that took place each year in Inman. Another highlight for her were the birthday celebrations with her five sisters. These day-long visits were filled with love and laughter, sharing and caring, and more laughter.

Mom wasn’t a perfectionist nor a perfect person. Her cooking was good, but not gourmet. Her house and yard were well kept, but they were never put on a magazine front. She had struggles; yet distasteful memories of her are few. She was a person very much in the background, rarely on stage or in the limelight, yet so strong in her own quiet way, faithfully encouraging, supporting, praying for, and being loyal to those the Lord had entrusted to her.

Mom became a Christian as a young girl, kneeling with her Dad in the farmhouse dining room, praying in German as she confessed her sin to the Lord and accepted Jesus’ forgiveness. At times, she struggled with knowing for sure that she was saved, but over time that changed. Romans 10:13, “Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved“ was shared with her by one of her granddaughters. She clung to that verse as well as John 6:37, “All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.” Mom’s walk with the Lord was consistent, spending time reading and praying for each of her family and others every morning and night…and often throughout the day. She had a stack of verses she memorized and reviewed daily. At the end of her life, she asked us to pray that she would be faithful to the end and patient until the Lord came to get her. Her faith has “found a resting place.”

Mom never really retired, but her activities changed. Gardening went from a large vegetable garden to flower beds. Cooking for nine eventually changed to meals for two and then to getting supper just for herself (a bologna sandwich was her favorite). Responsibilities changed again when Dad had to move to Wheat State Manor. Mom faithfully attended him each day until the Lord called him Home on September 10, 2017. 

Several years later, declining health required her to move to Presbyterian Manor. She was saddened to leave the home she loved but accepted her plight graciously. She kept up her work by interacting with her visitors, spending time praying, reading scripture, being content, and being thankful. The staff could hear her praying from her bed when they passed by her room in the evening. We found in her journal a statement she had written for herself years ago, “My goal is to first of all be a happy, contented wife who is pleasing to my husband and a mother whom my children will always like to come home to. And, most of all, I want to be what Jesus wants me to be.” Mom never retired from any of that.

Mom’s strength of character was not an inborn trait. Rather, it came from the relationship she had with her Savior, Jesus Christ, and the work He did in and through her. She passed from this life into Heaven on October 22, 2022.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Richard Wiebe; three brothers, Hank, Dan, and Abe; six sisters, Lena Thiessen, Marie Gilley, Ann Jantz, Sally Wiens, Kate Ensz and Linda Neufeld; two grandsons, Caleb Neal and Kameron Wiebe, and one grandson-in law, Chris Harder.

She is survived by her children Marjorie and Don Price of Missouri, Cecil and Jacque Wiebe of Burns, Lyle and Lenora Wiebe of Whitewater, Lewis and Jenny Wiebe of Whitewater, Winnie and Ed Neal of Texas, Wanita and Russ Busenitz of Peabody, and Marlys and Steve Unruh of Newton; 30 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, sister-in-laws Gladys and Arlene Wiebe, and brother Cornie Neufeld.

Visitation for Margaret will be held Sunday, October 30, 2022, at Emmaus Mennonite Church from 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. Funeral service will be held Monday, October 31, 2022, also at Emmaus Mennonite Church, beginning at 4:00 p.m. Services will be led by Pastor Tim Mace. 

Lamb Funeral Home, Whitewater, is serving the family. 

Memorial contributions in Margaret’s name may be directed to Berean Academy or to Nieces and Nephews in Missions, in care of Emmaus Mennonite Church.

Sometimes it was hymns for her own encouragement, and other times her singing was for our instruction. “Grumble on Monday, grumble on Tuesday, grumble the whole week through…”, or “Angry words, oh let them never...” were a couple of instructive songs we heard from her when our attitudes were not right. She was a “mentor” long before the term became popular as she mentored her children and other individuals God brought into her life. She enjoyed many things, like flowers, baking, a cup of coffee, and visiting with friends. There were also things she didn’t enjoy like snakes, butchering chickens (butchering in general), driving (she always had one foot on the accelerator and the other foot on the brake), beets, hominy, washing the milk buckets, and a few other things, but we rarely noticed because she wasn’t a complainer.Mom generally loved life and had a ready smile and a cheerful disposition. It was a rare occasion for her to turn down the opportunity to attend church, watch her kids or grandkids compete in a ballgame, or go to one of her family’s homes for a visit. She loved her Neufeld family and the Christmas gathering that took place each year in Inman. Another highlight for her were the birthday celebrations with her five sisters. These day-long visits were filled with love and laughter, sharing and caring, and more laughter.Mom wasn’t a perfectionist nor a perfect person. Her cooking was good, but not gourmet. Her house and yard were well kept, but they were never put on a magazine front. She had struggles; yet distasteful memories of her are few. She was a person very much in the background, rarely on stage or in the limelight, yet so strong in her own quiet way, faithfully encouraging, supporting, praying for, and being loyal to those the Lord had entrusted to her.Mom became a Christian as a young girl, kneeling with her Dad in the farmhouse dining room, praying in German as she confessed her sin to the Lord and accepted Jesus’ forgiveness. At times, she struggled with knowing for sure that she was saved, but over time that changed. Romans 10:13, “Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved“ was shared with her by one of her granddaughters. She clung to that verse as well as John 6:37, “All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.” Mom’s walk with the Lord was consistent, spending time reading and praying for each of her family and others every morning and night…and often throughout the day. She had a stack of verses she memorized and reviewed daily. At the end of her life, she asked us to pray that she would be faithful to the end and patient until the Lord came to get her. Her faith has “found a resting place.”Mom never really retired, but her activities changed. Gardening went from a large vegetable garden to flower beds. Cooking for nine eventually changed to meals for two and then to getting supper just for herself (a bologna sandwich was her favorite). Responsibilities changed again when Dad had to move to Wheat State Manor. Mom faithfully attended him each day until the Lord called him Home on September 10, 2017. Several years later, declining health required her to move to Presbyterian Manor. She was saddened to leave the home she loved but accepted her plight graciously. She kept up her work by interacting with her visitors, spending time praying, reading scripture, being content, and being thankful. The staff could hear her praying from her bed when they passed by her room in the evening. We found in her journal a statement she had written for herself years ago, “My goal is to first of all be a happy, contented wife who is pleasing to my husband and a mother whom my children will always like to come home to. And, most of all, I want to be what Jesus wants me to be.” Mom never retired from any of that.Mom’s strength of character was not an inborn trait. Rather, it came from the relationship she had with her Savior, Jesus Christ, and the work He did in and through her. Elizabeth Anne “Annie” Crough, age 66, of Clyde, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2022 at Park Villa Nursing Home, Clyde.&nbsp; She was born on March 25, 1956 in Denver, Colorado to Willis and Alice (Maloy) Coates.

She graduated from Cherry Creek High School, Denver, Colorado in 1974. Annie then went on to attend and graduate from the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley, Colorado and received her degree in mass media.

She married Robert “Bobby” Crough on Dec. 7, 1985 in Salina, KS.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on Oct. 12, 2020.

Annie owned and operated her own graphic design business for decades.&nbsp; Her creative side inspired her most. &nbsp;She was a talented graphic designer, covering a variety of artwork genres around the world.

She was a member of the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Clyde, Kansas. &nbsp;She truly loved her family and friends.

She is survived by her brother Jimmy Coates, Denver, CO; sister Mary Berg (Tony), Denver, CO; her three nieces, Jessica Nebel (Jameson) and their son, Aidan of Davenport, IA; Lori Berg (JJ) and their son Jordan, Denver, CO; Amanda Coates of Cheyenne, Wy; and all of Bobby’s children, siblings, and extended family.

She was preceded in death her husband Bobby Crough, her parents Willis and Alice, her sister Cathy Olson and a brother, John Coates, mother-in-law Faye Crough, and extended family.

It was Annie’s wishes to be cremated and a memorial mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday November 11, 2022 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Clyde with Fr. Steven Heina officiating. &nbsp;&nbsp;Burial of the cremains will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 11, 2022 at the Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Solomon, Kansas.

The services will be live streamed on the church Facebook page for everyone to view.&nbsp;

Richard Lee Doyle, age 81, entered into rest on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at the Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born on December 24, 1940 in Hays, Kansas to Ernest and Zella (McKim) Doyle.

He was a 1958 graduate of Belle Plaine High School, Belle Plaine, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

On August 12, 1962 He married Martha “Marty” Broyles in Webber, Kansas.&nbsp; She preceded him in death on December 23, 2016.

Richard received his bachelor’s degree in music from Kansas State University. While at KSU, Rich and Marty participated in the Kansas State Marching Band, where they met.&nbsp; He went on to receive his master’s degree in mathematics, also from Kansas State University.

Rich served many years working as a fireman for the railroad and then in the MAD department at Cesna. Upon relocating to Concordia, he owned and operated his own woodworking shop, where he enjoyed making many unique crafts.&nbsp; He was a true craftsman and took great pride in his work.&nbsp; He and Marty attended many arts and craft fairs where they would display and sell their crafts. Rich also worked for Cloud County Community College for many years where he retired in 2006.&nbsp;

His hobbies include woodworking, antiquing with his son Jeff, sitting at the beach house with his daughter Deb, watching Hallmark Christmas movies, and attending CCCC Volleyball, women’s basketball, and softball games.&nbsp; He was a loving husband, dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa.&nbsp; He truly touched so many lives.

Survivors include his daughter Debra Willis (Larry, deceased), Savannah, GA.;&nbsp; grandchildren Amber Doyle (Joey Irsik), Topeka, KS.; Stephanie Downie (Derrick), Concordia, KS; Heather Hadenfeldt (Jamie), Cairo, NE.; Seth Nonamaker, Beatrice, NE.; Sean Nonamaker (Natalie), Yamhill, OR.; Michelle Bombardier (Bryan), Concordia, KS; Maria Morris (Troy), Lexington, NC, Craig Willis (Jennifer), Las Vegas, NV.; Shane Willis (Gelene), St. George, UT; great-grandchildren Lincoln and Clayton; brothers Larry Doyle (Linda), OK, Pat Melia, OK.

 </figure><a href="https://www.chaputbuoy.com/obituary/richard-doyle">Obituary | Richard Lee Doyle of Concordia, Kansas | Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home (chaputbuoy.com)</a>December 24, 1940 - October 25, 2022Richard Lee Doyle, age 81, entered into rest on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at the Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born on December 24, 1940 in Hays, Kansas to Ernest and Zella (McKim) Doyle.He was a 1958 graduate of Belle Plaine High School, Belle Plaine, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;On August 12, 1962 He married Martha “Marty” Broyles in Webber, Kansas.&nbsp; She preceded him in death on December 23, 2016.Richard received his bachelor’s degree in music from Kansas State University. While at KSU, Rich and Marty participated in the Kansas State Marching Band, where they met.&nbsp; He went on to receive his master’s degree in mathematics, also from Kansas State University.Rich served many years working as a fireman for the railroad and then in the MAD department at Cesna. Upon relocating to Concordia, he owned and operated his own woodworking shop, where he enjoyed making many unique crafts.&nbsp; He was a true craftsman and took great pride in his work.&nbsp; He and Marty attended many arts and craft fairs where they would display and sell their crafts. Rich also worked for Cloud County Community College for many years where he retired in 2006.&nbsp;His hobbies include woodworking, antiquing with his son Jeff, sitting at the beach house with his daughter Deb, watching Hallmark Christmas movies, and attending CCCC Volleyball, women’s basketball, and softball games.&nbsp; He was a loving husband, dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa.&nbsp; He truly touched so many lives.Survivors include his daughter Debra Willis (Larry, deceased), Savannah, GA.;&nbsp; grandchildren Amber Doyle (Joey Irsik), Topeka, KS.; Stephanie Downie (Derrick), Concordia, KS; Heather Hadenfeldt (Jamie), Cairo, NE.; Seth Nonamaker, Beatrice, NE.; Sean Nonamaker (Natalie), Yamhill, OR.; Michelle Bombardier (Bryan), Concordia, KS; Maria Morris (Troy), Lexington, NC, Craig Willis (Jennifer), Las Vegas, NV.; Shane Willis (Gelene), St. George, UT; great-grandchildren Lincoln and Clayton; brothers Larry Doyle (Linda), OK, Pat Melia, OK.He was preceded in death by his wife Marty, son Jeffrey Doyle, parents Ernest and Zella, daughter-in-law Janette Doyle, son-in-law Larry Willis, and brother Bob Doyle.Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Monday, October 31, 2022 with family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. all at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia.Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Concordia with Rev. Velma was born on a small farm near Wellington Kansas February 21, 1932 to father Herman Audman Weathers and mother Hazel Lydia Hibbs-Weathers.

She went to school in Morehead, Kansas until the end of her sophomore year when she moved to Salina to be with her sister.

She met her husband Melvin while waitressing at a cafe near where he worked. They were married in September of 1949.

Velma had several jobs over the years. She waitressed, worked at Safeway and Amark Printing all while raising two sons, Randall and Melvin, Junior. She went to work at Mel's Tack and Saddle in 1973 after 16 years at Amark Printing. She worked with her husband until his passing in 2002 and kept the business open for another three years until her retirement in 2005 at the age of 73.

She passed Sunday, October 23, 2022 at Brookdale Senior Living on Fairdale Avenue where she lived for the last three months.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m., Monday, October 31, 2022 at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Tammy Walker Cancer Center or St. Jude Memorial Foundation and may be sent in care of Ryan Mortuary.

Abbott, 84, of Salina, Kan., passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, with her family by her side. She was born on February 9, 1938, to George and Elsie (Elliot) Schweizer in Turon, Kan. She was united in marriage to Melvin Abbott on October 5, 1963, in Hutchinson, Kan.Betty was happiest when she was spending time with family.&nbsp; She and Mel also loved to travel.&nbsp; During their 59 years of marriage, they were able to visit all 50 states and went on many cruises. Betty was a bookkeeper for many years, only recently retiring.&nbsp; She was a member of Sunrise Presbyterian Church in Salina.She is survived by her husband Mel; daughters Melanie Hancock (Kenny), Melinda Eitel (David), and Melisa McElwee (Kevin), all of Salina; grandchildren, Kurtis Crawford (Brittney), Kaity Crawford, Bryan Eitel (Katie), Lindsay Radiel (Dalton), Tyler McElwee, and Lauren Eitel; and seven great-grandchildren.She is preceded in death by her parents; five brothers; and six sisters.Family will receive visitors from 3-5 p.m., Sunday, October 30, during visitation at Ryan Mortuary, Salina.
