Leo L. Holmes, 96, of Hesston, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at his home. He was born on November 23, 1925 in Hanston, Kansas, the son of Elmer M. and Flora Mae (Goller) Holmes. He graduated from Hanston High School with the class of 1944. Leo later received his aviation management degree from Denver University. He also later obtained his private pilot's license and FAA airline and engine mechanic license. Leo served in the United States Army in central Europe during WWII from 1944-1946, attaining the rank of corporal. He was united in marriage to Carolyn Marita Heald on February 21, 1953, at the First United Methodist Church in Wichita, Kansas. He worked as a technical writer for Aviation &amp; Farm Equipment. Leo later worked for Boeing for 17 years, where he was involved with modifications to Air Force One and Air Force Two. He was employed for 12 years at Hesston Corporation, and from 1970-1973, Leo owned and operated Holmes Dodge and Implement in Burwell, Nebraska. He was a member of the Hesston Kiwanis Club where he served as president and received distinguished President's Award with Honors. Leo was also a member of the Hesston United Methodist Church. Leo and Carolyn were instrumental in getting the Hesston Senior Center started. Leo is survived by his wife, Carolyn of the home; daughter Marita Jo (Brent) Steckly of Beaver Crossing, NE; three sons, L. Monte (Monica) Holmes of Goshen, IN, Marshall (Renee) Holmes of Hesston; and Mitchell (Michelle) Holmes of St. John; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law Rex Heald; two brothers; and one sister. Family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, November 11, 2022 at Miller-Ott Funeral Home, Hesston. Private graveside services will be held at Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis, KS.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, November 26, at Hesston United Methodist Church, with military honors by the United States Army Honor Guard.

Betty Jean (Becker) Carlson, 89, of McPherson, KS, passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at her home.

Betty was born on July 19, 1933, in McPherson County, KS, the youngest of four children born to Tobias B. and Ida (Koehn) Becker.&nbsp; 

On July 26, 1950, Betty was united in marriage to Robert Dean Carlson in Perham, MN.&nbsp; This union was blessed with the birth of three children, Dennis, Steven, and Diane.&nbsp; Married for nearly 59 years, Bob preceded her in death on July 7, 2009.

Along with being a homemaker, she worked as a waitress at Starlite Restaurant, a cook for Hickory Manor Nursing Home, a sales clerk for McNichols Shoe Store, and a holiday gift wrapper at Morris &amp; Sons Clothiers.&nbsp;

She was a member of the First Baptist Church and former member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary.

Survivors include her children Dennis (Sherill) Carlson of McPherson, KS and Diane (Terry) Rhea of Hollister, MO; daughter-in-law Lori Carlson of Manhattan, KS; nine grandchildren, Tracy Rhea, Laura Rhea, Rob Newberry, Kelly (Carlson) Nicola, Melissa Newberry, Tara Flores, Jeremy Schmidt, Matt Carlson, and Jami Carlson; 18 great-grandchildren; and many extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Steve Carlson; siblings Lincoln Becker, Allen Becker, and Rozella Chapman; a granddaughter, Amy Carlson; and a great-grandson.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at Stockham Family Funeral Home.&nbsp; The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, November 17, at the First Baptist Church.&nbsp; Burial will follow at McPherson Cemetery.

Donald Dean Rounds of McPherson, Kansas, died Tuesday, November 8, 2022, at McPherson Hospital at the age of 95.&nbsp;

Donald was born on October 4, 1927, at 703 Walnut, Enid, Oklahoma. He was the first child of Jasper William Rounds and Hazel Marie (Smith) Rounds.&nbsp;

The family moved to Blackwell, Oklahoma when Donald was nine months old.&nbsp; He attended the first four grades of school at Lincoln.&nbsp; The family moved to McPherson, Kansas in 1938.&nbsp; Donald finished the fifth grade at Washington Elementary School and sixth grade at Roosevelt School.&nbsp; He attended Park Junior High and one year at McPherson High School.&nbsp; He graduated from Central College Academy in 1945, where he played basketball and softball.&nbsp; It was at this time, he started using the name Don, much to the displeasure of his father.

World War II was coming to a close so to avoid the draft, Don talked his parents into signing papers so he could enlist in the Navy.&nbsp; Four weeks into boot camp, Don had the opportunity to transfer to the Seabee Branch of the Navy.&nbsp; He was stationed on Samara Island in the Philippines for nine months.&nbsp; He was honorably discharged in 1946 as a Motor Machinist Mate 3rd&nbsp;Class.

Don completed associate degree at Central College in McPherson, Kansas, in 1948.&nbsp; He played basketball and baseball while in college.

Don married his high school sweetheart, Joyce Alene Meyer.&nbsp; They were married at Cole Memorial Free Methodist Church in Kansas City, Kansas on July 1, 1947.&nbsp; The couple was blessed with three sons, Michael Dean, Bradley Kent, and Brett Kelly. Joyce preceded Don in death on July 21, 1987.

Don worked as assistant county engineer and retired from National Cooperative Refinery Association as Products Pipeline and Terminal Superintendent, after 30 years of service.&nbsp; The family moved from McPherson, KS in 1960 for Don’s employment with NCRA.&nbsp; Don moved back to McPherson in 1990 to be close to his family, church friends, and college friends.

On October 17, 1991, Don was united in marriage to Neva F. (Duncan) McCormick, in McPherson, Kansas.&nbsp; They enjoyed married life together for 23 years.&nbsp; She preceded him in death on April 6, 2014.

He is survived by his son Kelly (Linda) Rounds of McPherson, KS; four grandchildren, Wayne (Brittany) Rounds, Kenny (Stacey) Rounds, Lacee Green, and Kim Robinson; two stepgrandchildren, Christy (Erik) Velazquez and Cameron (Carol) Crick; seven great-grandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; and many extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wives, a brother, Bob Rounds, two sisters, Elsie Landess and Wanda Wash; two sons, Michael Dean Rounds and Bradley Kent Rounds.&nbsp;

Margaret married Donald A. Wilkens in Hudson, KS on November 25, 1951. The couple settled in the Lorraine, KS area and remained there until 1988 when they moved to Ellsworth. 

She was a member of Lorraine First Baptist Church.

Margaret is survived by her son Jerry Wilkens of Omaha, NE; daughters Carol Silvernail (David) of Olathe, KS and Connie Wilkens of Hutchinson, KS; grandson Joshua Wilkens (Kristi) of De Soto, KS and Jacob Wilkens (Karla) of Hoisington, KS; and great-grandchildren Ryen, Chase, Jax, Trey, Kinley, and Adler. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Donald Wilkens; and sisters Ruby Tucker, Ruth Ek, Frieda Miller, and Marion Brown.

Margaret’s funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at Lorraine First Baptist Church with burial following in the church cemetery. No visitation is scheduled.

Martha Webster, 86, died November 9, 2022, in Clay Center, KS.&nbsp; She was born on October 5, 1936, in Independence, MO, the daughter of Durl and Gertrude (Sirotsky) O'Neil.&nbsp; Martha was raised in Independence, MO. 

She married Gene Webster on August 3, 1957, and they made their home in Overland Park, KS.&nbsp; 

Martha graduated from Central Missouri State College and later earned her master’s degree from the University of Kansas.&nbsp; 

She worked as a speech therapist for the Olathe school district until her retirement.&nbsp;

 In 2014, Gene and Martha moved to Clay Center, where they attended the Clay Center Covenant Church.&nbsp; 

Martha enjoyed the Kansas City Ballet, sewing, quilting, art appreciation, reading books to children and socializing with family and friends.&nbsp;

 Gene preceded her in death on May 11, 2015.&nbsp; 

Martha was a member of Prairie Baptist Church in Prairie Village, the University Women’s Organization, and the Quilting Guild.&nbsp; 

She was also preceded in death by her parents and brothers Don O'Neil, Wade O'Neil and their spouses

Melvin H. Brummer was born to Louis and Marie (Schroeder) Brummer on May 20, 1937 in Tipton. He passed away on November 8, 2022 at the Resident Care Center in Beloit, KS at the age of 85.&nbsp;

Melvin grew up on a farm south of Tipton as the fifth of nine children where they learned a lot about farm life, faith and family. The Brummer brothers’ shenanigans sometimes led to a rosary on the shanty steps. 

He attended St. Boniface Grade School, graduating from Tipton High School in 1955.&nbsp;

After graduation, Melvin met his wife Geraldine (Boden) Brummer. They were united in marriage on May 2, 1959. They settled on a farmstead west of Tipton where they side-by side operated a Grade A dairy, cattle and farming operation. Melvin and Gerry were blessed with five children in their 56 years of loving marriage.&nbsp;

Melvin was an active member of the St. Boniface Catholic church. He served as an Acolyte and Eucharistic Minister. Melvin was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 1645 where he served as Grand Knight and was also a member of the Robert F. Kennedy 4th Degree. One of his proudest moments was the installation of his three sons and two sons-in-law into the 4th Degree.&nbsp; Melvin placed a high value on faith, family, hard work and education, and therefore served as a member of the National Guard, Parish Council and Tipton School Board.

Melvin lived life to the fullest! He shared his wisdom, compassion, leadership and sense of humor with everyone. Some of his favorite pastimes were raising greyhounds (Queenie), coyote hunting, tending and checking his cattle on a Sunday drive to the pasture with fishing pole in tow. He loved the time spent playing pinochle and pitch with family, polka dancing and could be found tapping his foot along with a Lawrence Welk tune.&nbsp;

Melvin's 15 grandchildren captured his heart. They were familiar with the pet names of Smoke, George, Peter Murphy, and Snickle Fritz. He enjoyed giving them rides in his John Deere tractor where he was known to share life lessons along with fun stories. If they ever got bored, he taught them how to sing along to the tune of “Jimmy Crack Corn.”

Melvin's parents, his loving wife, Gerry, brother Charles, and sister Twyla Remus preceded him in death. 

Survivors include his five children: Robin (Kevin) Moore of Osborne, Stacie (Gery) Hake of Tipton, Troy (Stacey) Brummer of Osborne, Tyler (Rebecca) of Genesee, ID, and Chad (Candace) Brummer of Tipton; 15 grandchildren: Kylin and Katelyn Moore, Justin, Jaron, and Linden Hake, Megan (Kyle) Montoya, Shelby and Shyanne Brummer, Jayson and Alyssa Carswell, Tristen, Logan, and Cadyn Brummer, Trenton and Allison Brummer; great-granddaughter Kassidy Brummer along with two more great-grands arriving soon; Melvin’s siblings: Cynthia May of Beloit, Victor (Betty) Brummer of Tipton, Harry Brummer of Lincoln, Kenny (Joanne) Brummer of Tipton, Sylvia (Rick) Budke of Beloit, Michelle (Phillip) Murrow of Tipton;&nbsp; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who made his life complete.

Melvin will be remembered as someone who brought a light so great to the world that even after he’s gone, the light still remains forever in our hearts!

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, November 14 at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Tipton. A rosary service will be at 6:30 p.m. Sunday and visitation will be from 5 p.m. until the rosary service begins at the Church. 

Memorials may be given to the Tipton schools or Masses.

Jerome (Jerry) Joseph Eilert, 80, passed away on Monday, November 7, 2022 in Beloit, KS.&nbsp; He was born February 4,1942, to Joseph and Monica (Mans) Eilert in Beloit, KS. 

He attended first through eighth grades at Plum Creek (country) School followed by high school graduation from St. John’s Catholic School. 

He served six months on active duty as part of the Army Reserves Enlistment and spent four years in the reserve program.&nbsp; 

Jerry attended the Park School of Business in Denver, Colorado graduating in February 1963. He also attended Fort Hays State University.&nbsp; 

He later worked in the offices of Graves Van Lines out of Salina, KS before joining the First National Bank of Beloit in 1966 and retiring in 2007. In addition, Jerry farmed his entire life.

Jerry was united in marriage to Mary K. (Brock) on August 6, 1966. To that union, four children were born. In addition to being a devoted member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, he was also a member of the Lions Club, Knights of Columbus, and Cornerstone Charitable Foundation. 

Jerry was a faithful and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. 

He was preceded in death by his parents. 

Jerry is survived by his wife Mary K (Brock) Eilert and children Doug (Beth) Eilert of Beloit; Brian (Sheri) Eilert of Beloit; Lori (Jeff) Mann of Kansas City and Stephen (Ruth) Eilert of Kansas City. He is also survived by brother Ron (Bernice) Eilert and sister Sharon Allphin, both of Beloit. Grandchildren include Meg (Joe) Malone, Luke (Kate) Eilert, Mason Eilert, Elle Eilert, Dominic Eilert, Kolbe Eilert, Andrew Eilert, Logan (fiancé Drew Gregory) Eilert, Emily Eilert, Daniel Eilert, Liz Mann, Jarod Mann, Blake Eilert, Riley Eilert, and great-grandson Max Malone. Clyde's life began on May 7, 1955, in Indianapolis, IN. He is the son of Cloyce Thrush and Candice(Herald) Knowles.&nbsp;

Clyde served his country in the United States Army and was a disabled veteran. He was a member of the American Legion and in his early years worked as a mechanic. 

Clyde is survived by his children Christy Papadakis of Texas, Elizabeth Thrush of Tennessee, Clyde (Rondee) Thrush Il of Kansas and Timothy Thrush of Florida; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; his girlfriend Karen Cauley (K.C.); his siblings Cecil Thrush, Carl Thrush and Jessica Donnelly, and many nieces and nephews. 

Clyde passed away at his home on November 10, 2022. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Cloyce Thrush, Jr. and Charlie Thrush, and his son-in-law George. 

His family will gather with friends on Thursday, November 17th at 12 p.m. at Sunset Hill Cemetery, Herington for his graveside services to celebrate his life.

He is the son of Cloyce Thrush and Candice(Herald) Knowles.&nbsp;Clyde served his country in the United States Army and was a disabled veteran. He was a member of the American Legion and in his early years worked as a mechanic. Clyde is survived by his children Christy Papadakis of Texas, Elizabeth Thrush of Tennessee, Clyde (Rondee) Thrush Il of Kansas and Timothy Thrush of Florida; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; his girlfriend Karen Cauley (K.C.); his siblings Cecil Thrush, Carl Thrush and Jessica Donnelly, and many nieces and nephews. His family love him and will miss him. Clyde passed away at his home on November 10, 2022. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Cloyce Thrush, Jr. and Charlie Thrush, and his son-in-law George. Vance Silknitter was born January 23, 1952, in Wichita, KS, to Grant and Genevieve Almack Silknitter.

Vance grew up with the streets of Wichita as his playground. He worked a paper route and had many pets: dogs, a squirrel, and a raccoon, which he used to tease his sister, Sonya Sue. His pet raccoon, Zoro, would ride on his bike with him which was quite a sight. He would catch pigeons along the canal route to keep as pets. Vance had a pretty slick system. He would sell his pigeons to friends, but the pigeons would return right back to him. Upon arrival the bird would be caught and eaten by his raccoon. His friends were none the wiser.&nbsp;

After middle school, Vance was sent to Wentworth Military Academy, in Lexington Missouri as a result of getting into trouble and street fights. But military school did not change Vance’s heart. 

He returned to Wichita and graduated from East High; Dad continued to make poor choices. He was involved in crime and drug use but after two bad car accidents, which should have taken his life. He wanted to know if there was anything more to this life than a good time and near-death experiences. He had some “Jesus freak” friends up in Kansas City from his military school days and decided to go set them straight. 

But God did a work in his heart and Vance put his trust in Jesus Christ as his Savior. Those around him saw seven demons exit his body when he accepted Christ as his Savior. He didn’t have any friends in Wichita that could encourage him in his new faith, but God took care of that. Through a series of events, he was placed in a house with a Christian roommate, and they began to have bible studies in that home. 

Vance married and had a beautiful baby girl, but that marriage dissolved, and Dad was a single father for several years.&nbsp;Seems like Vance knew how to do pretty much anything, and if he didn’t know how to do something he would figure it out as he went. 

He worked as a machinist for 47 years at the Boeing Company and Spirit AeroSystems. After a day of work, he was always ready to come home to his family.&nbsp;

Though they grew up in the same church Vance didn’t take notice of his friend’s kid sister, Judy, till she showed kindness toward his daughter Amber. Vance and Judy Shaffer were married on December 1, 1979. 

Now Vance was making some better choices.&nbsp;He fathered seven children and sacrificed greatly to send us to a private Christian school. 

Vance didn’t miss many Berean ball games, concerts or plays for 27 years.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He was a dedicated member of Swiss Church, now Whitewater Community Church. He served as an Awana leader and then commander. Vance also served as a trustee for the church. If there was snow, he was at church shoveling it. If the lawn needed to be mowed; he took care of it. 

He had definitive ideas about how things should be done and made it known.&nbsp;He was an idea man; that can be clearly seen in his garden innovations. Every year, he was fine-tuning his craft. He said that he was fulfilling the biblical mandate, “multiply and tend the garden.”

 Vance went out to water the garden July 29th. He lost his footing and fell to the ground. He spent the next three months traversing the halls of St. Francis Medical Center, moving from room to room, unit to unit. Vance had a great sense of humor which he kept till the end. 

His faith was never stronger than it was those last three months. He didn’t understand why all this was happening to him, but he knew God was a part of it whatever the outcome.&nbsp;

Vance entered eternity to meet his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, November 7, 2022, surrounded by friends and family. 

He is preceded in death by his parents Grant and Genevieve Silknitter and brother Stephen Kent Silknitter.&nbsp;

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Judy Silknitter, his children Amber and Mark Baham of El Cajon, CA; Andrea&nbsp; and James Meier of rural Benton, KS; Jennette and Aaron Gaudern of rural Whitewater, KS; Nathan and Patricia Silknitter of Hornick, IA; Clint and Theresa Silknitter of Moundridge, KS; Scott and Madison Silknitter of Whitewater, KS; and Christine and Adrian Condit of rural Shawnee, KS; 24 grandchildren; and his sister and brother-in-law Sonya and Earl Harris of Colorado.

Vance’s life began on January 23, 1952, in Wichita. He is the son of Grant D. and Genevieve V. (Almack) Silknitter. Vance was a 1970 graduate of Wichita East High School and had attended Wentworth Military Academy. 

He was united in marriage to Judy Shaffer on December 1, 1979, at Mt. Olive Christian Church in Wichita and enjoyed 42 years of marriage.

 Vance worked for Spirit (Boeing) AeroSystems as a machinist for 47 years. 

He was an amazing husband, father, and grandfather.

 Vance coached his kids when they were young and enjoyed hunting and being outdoors with his family. He grew an outstanding garden every year and enjoyed sharing the fruits of his labors with friends and neighbors.

 Vance had a strong faith in our Lord and was an active member of the Whitewater Community Church (Swiss Church) for many years. He was also the Awana director at church for some time. 

Vance loved his animals, especially his Irish Setter, Sable. 

His great joy by far though was his family which includes his wife Judy of Whitewater; children Amber (Mark) Baham of San Diego, CA, Andrea (James) Meier of Benton, Jennette (Aaron) Gaudern of Whitewater, Nathan (Patty) Silknitter of Hornick, IA, Clint (Theresa) Silknitter of Moundridge, Scott (Madison) Silknitter of Whitewater and Christine ( Adrian) Condit of Shawnee, OK; 24 grandchildren and his sister Sonya (Earl) Harris of Bailey, CO.&nbsp; 

Vance passed away on Monday, November 7, 2022, at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. 

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Stephen Silknitter. 

His family will gather with friends on Friday November 11, 2022, from 6-8 p.m. at the Whitewater Community Church where his memorial service will be held on Saturday November 12, 2022, at 11a.m. Private family graveside services will be held at Swiss Church Cemetery, Whitewater.

He worked a paper route and had many pets: dogs, a squirrel, and a raccoon, which he used to tease his sister, Sonya Sue. His pet raccoon, Zoro, would ride on his bike with him which was quite a sight. He would catch pigeons along the canal route to keep as pets. Vance had a pretty slick system. He would sell his pigeons to friends, but the pigeons would return right back to him. Upon arrival the bird would be caught and eaten by his raccoon. His friends were none the wiser.&nbsp;After middle school, Vance was sent to Wentworth Military Academy, in Lexington Missouri as a result of getting into trouble and street fights. But military school did not change Vance’s heart. He returned to Wichita and graduated from East High; Dad continued to make poor choices. He was involved in crime and drug use but after two bad car accidents, which should have taken his life. He wanted to know if there was anything more to this life than a good time and near-death experiences. He had some “Jesus freak” friends up in Kansas City from his military school days and decided to go set them straight. But God did a work in his heart and Vance put his trust in Jesus Christ as his Savior. Those around him saw seven demons exit his body when he accepted Christ as his Savior. He didn’t have any friends in Wichita that could encourage him in his new faith, but God took care of that. Through a series of events, he was placed in a house with a Christian roommate, and they began to have bible studies in that home. Vance married and had a beautiful baby girl, but that marriage dissolved, and Dad was a single father for several years.&nbsp;Seems like Vance knew how to do pretty much anything, and if he didn’t know how to do something he would figure it out as he went. He worked as a machinist for 47 years at the Boeing Company and Spirit AeroSystems. After a day of work, he was always ready to come home to his family.&nbsp;Though they grew up in the same church Vance didn’t take notice of his friend’s kid sister, Judy, till she showed kindness toward his daughter Amber. Vance and Judy Shaffer were married on December 1, 1979. Now Vance was making some better choices.&nbsp;He fathered seven children and sacrificed greatly to send us to a private Christian school. Vance didn’t miss many Berean ball games, concerts or plays for 27 years.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was a dedicated member of Swiss Church, now Whitewater Community Church. He served as an Awana leader and then commander. Vance also served as a trustee for the church. If there was snow, he was at church shoveling it. If the lawn needed to be mowed; he took care of it. He had definitive ideas about how things should be done and made it known.&nbsp;He was an idea man; that can be clearly seen in his garden innovations. Every year, he was fine-tuning his craft. He said that he was fulfilling the biblical mandate, “multiply and tend the garden.” Vance went out to water the garden July 29th. He lost his footing and fell to the ground. He spent the next three months traversing the halls of St. Francis Medical Center, moving from room to room, unit to unit. Vance had a great sense of humor which he kept till the end. His faith was never stronger than it was those last three months. He didn’t understand why all this was happening to him, but he knew God was a part of it whatever the outcome.&nbsp;Vance entered eternity to meet his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, November 7, 2022, surrounded by friends and family. He is preceded in death by his parents Grant and Genevieve Silknitter and brother Stephen Kent Silknitter.&nbsp;He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Judy Silknitter, his children Amber and Mark Baham of El Cajon, CA; Andrea&nbsp; and James Meier of rural Benton, KS; Jennette and Aaron Gaudern of rural Whitewater, KS; Nathan and Patricia Silknitter of Hornick, IA; Clint and Theresa Silknitter of Moundridge, KS; Scott and Madison Silknitter of Whitewater, KS; and Christine and Adrian Condit of rural Shawnee, KS; 24 grandchildren; and his sister and brother-in-law Sonya and Earl Harris of Colorado.Vance’s life began on January 23, 1952, in Wichita. He is the son of Grant D. and Genevieve V. (Almack) Silknitter. Vance was a 1970 graduate of Wichita East High School and had attended Wentworth Military Academy. He was united in marriage to Judy Shaffer on December 1, 1979, at Mt. Olive Christian Church in Wichita and enjoyed 42 years of marriage. Vance worked for Spirit (Boeing) AeroSystems as a machinist for 47 years. He was an amazing husband, father, and grandfather. Vance coached his kids when they were young and enjoyed hunting and being outdoors with his family. He grew an outstanding garden every year and enjoyed sharing the fruits of his labors with friends and neighbors. Vance had a strong faith in our Lord and was an active member of the Whitewater Community Church (Swiss Church) for many years. He was also the Awana director at church for some time. Vance loved his animals, especially his Irish Setter, Sable. Judith (Judy) Arlene Hein was born October 6, 1941, on the family farm in rural Seneca, KS. She is the daughter of John Bernard and Marcella Ann (Rettle) Rethman.

 She graduated from St. Peter and Paul High School in 1959. 

She married her first husband, Anthony Luke Brinker, who passed away on November 8, 1976. She was later married to Walter John Hein on June 21, 1997, in Marion, KS.

Judy loved dancing, especially polka, and was a very avid KU Basketball fan. Judy also enjoyed cooking and was known for her chocolate cake. Family was very important to Judy, and she loved being with her grandchildren.

Judy’s family includes her husband Walter Hein; children Kevin (Brenda) Brinker, Shawna Pierce, Tammy (Brad) Smith; grandchildren Kory (Shelby) Brinker, Kolby (Kaitlyn) Brinker, Kody (Kat) Brinker, Kyle Brinker, Megan Adamson, Dalton Smith; great-grandchildren Oliver Brinker, Wren Brinker, siblings John (Jerian) Rethman, Wayne (Marlene) Rethman, Doris Fairfield, Carol Karnowski, Mary (Frank) Sander; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Judy, at the age of 81, passed away on November 01, 2022, at St. Luke Hospital, Marion, KS, surrounded by her loving family. 

She is preceded in death by her parents John and Marcella Rethman; first husband Anthony Luke Brinker; daughter Elaine Brinker; siblings infant Juanita Rose, Tom Rethman, Marceil Fouraker, Elizabeth Himmelberg, and Walter “Pete” Rethman.

The family of Judy Hein would like to extend a special thank you to all the staff at St. Luke Hospital for the excellent care that was given to Judy, and the support that was provided for the family.

A rosary service will begin at 10:00 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial being celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on November 19th at St. John the Evangelist’s Catholic Church in El Dorado.&nbsp;

Alicia Kay Thoman Graff, age 37, of Concordia, Kansas Passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2022, in Belleville, Kansas.

&nbsp;Alicia was born on April 12, 1985 to Randy L. and Deborah J. (Appleby) Thoman in Concordia, Kansas. She graduated from Concordia Junior-Senior High School in May 2003 and briefly attended Cloud County Community College.

After a 17-year courtship, Alicia was united in marriage to her soulmate, David Wayne Graff on June 17, 2022. Together, they shared an amazing love story.

Alicia worked as a cashier at Walmart #1282 for several years until her health made it impossible for her to continue working.

She enjoyed the customers, many who went only through her checkout specifically, because they enjoyed her kind, genuine, outgoing, positive and friendly personality as well as the experience and the knowledge she possessed towards them.

Alicia deeply loved her family, friends and her fur babies. She was a patient, genuine, kind, loving, caring, soul with a true heart of gold. She was never one to complain about anything, despite being in so much physical pain, and never said a bad word about anyone. 

She grew up always having a strong faith in the Lord. That often lead her to always being happiest whenever she was doing something to help someone else, especially those who were less fortunate. 

She enjoyed going for drives in the country, being in the outdoors weather watching, spending time with family, friends, and her animals, watching her favorite shows on Netflix, and trying to repair different things on her own.

Survivors include her husband David W. Graff, Concordia, KS; parents Randy L. and Deborah J. Thoman, her fur babies Ore, Enya, and Chance, her best friend Rachel Mallory (Vonn), all of Concordia, grandfather Gary D. Appleby, Westmorland, KS, grandmother Beverly J. Thoman, Concordia, KS, and in-laws Carl and Karen Graff, Glen Elder, KS, aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, and countless friends.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother Karen K (Mallam) Appleby, grandfather Austin J. Thoman, and uncle Franklin A. Thoman.

Visitation will be from 8-10 a.m., Monday, November 14, 2022 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia.&nbsp; 

Private family services will be at the funeral home with burial at the Morrison Cemetery, Concordia.&nbsp;

Carol M. Lingo, age 75, left this earthly life on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at the Park Villa Nursing Home, Clyde, Kansas. &nbsp;She was born on February 7, 1947 in Concordia, KS to Tom and Della Mae (Greer) Barleen.

She was a member of the Concordia High School Class of 1965 .&nbsp;

Carol married Larry Lingo on August 26, 1964 in Concordia, KS.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on May 31, 2005.&nbsp; To this union three daughters were born, Jeanette, Colleen, and Nicole.

She was a beautician at Total Image in Concordia from 1984 until 2004. &nbsp;Prior to becoming a cosmetologist, she was a homemaker and farm wife taking care of the home details at the Double L Ranch and Farm.

She was a member of the Moose Lodge, Elks Club, Aurora Starlighters, Concordia Women’s Bowling League and the GoGo Girls.

The activities that brought her joy include decorating and cleaning her beautiful home, doing hair, square dancing, bowling, spending time playing cards &amp; dominoes, cooking and taking meals to the field during harvest, spoiling her dogs, shopping with her daughters, but most of all, Carol loved her family and friends.

She is survived by her three daughters, Jeanette Ouellette and husband Marlin, Concordia, KS; Colleen Villa and husband Pancho, Topeka, KS; Nicole Begnoche and husband Alvin, Jenks, OK; three granddaughters, Jessica Elliott and husband Larz, of Arthur, NE; Haley Reedy and husband Adam, Concordia, KS; Segan Villa, Topkea, KS; five great-grandchildren, sisters Martha Eakins, Clyde, KS; Meredith Bechard and husband Dale, Clifton, KS; two brothers Owen Barleen and Loyal Barleen, Concordia, KS; brothers in-law Bill Powell, Concordia, KS, Frank Lingo, Concordia, KS; and sister-in-law Patricia Greenberg and husband Chet, Concordia, KS; Peggy Lingo, Charlotte, NC; and many nieces and nephews,

She was preceded in death by her husband Larry, parents Tom and Della Mae, sister Peggy Powell, brothers-in-law Art Eakins, Jim Liby, Carl Lingo, and David Goernandt.

Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 12, 2022 at Chaput-Buoy, Concordia, with Rev. Earl Hale officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery, Ames, Kansas.&nbsp;

Visitation will be on Friday, November 11, 2022 from 1-8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. all at the Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia.&nbsp;
