Rebecca Ann Knox, age 54, of Navarre, Kansas was born to Tom and Sally McGinnis on May 24, 1968 in Junction City, Kansas. She passed away December 3, 2022 in Topeka, Kansas. Becky grew up near Abilene, Kansas and attended Abilene Schools.

She worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant and a Certified Medication Aide in Salina, Abilene, and Herington, Kansas. 

She married David Knox on October 30, 2006 in Navarre, Kansas. Survivors include her husband David of the home, son Doug Tabor of Oklahoma, daughter Jessica Behrens of Hawaii, five grandchildren, six siblings, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her mother, father, and a grandson. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

On June 26, 1948 she was united in marriage to Dale W. Loader. Melva was a homemaker. 

She is survived by her daughters Robin Loader and Michelle Loader and one son, Doug Loader, three granddaughters, Faron Enger, Candi Gwennap, and Jandi Holton, eight great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her loving husband Dale on March 29, 2020, her parents, sister Ilene Ross, brother Mervin Sexton, and nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mark Allen Swenson, 59, passed away Monday morning Dec. 5, 2022, in Salina, KS. Mark was born Oct 13, 1963, in Salina and was the first child of Richard and Leanna (Lahman) Swenson. 

He lived part of his life in Rockford, IL.&nbsp;until&nbsp;the age of 14 and went to Salina Central High School. He worked for several years at McDonalds until he was offered a job with Phillips Lighting. He worked there for more than 20 years until his retirement.

He was preceded&nbsp;in death by his parents, Richard and Leanna, and leaves behind his only brother, Steve.

Mark was very artistic and loved to paint,&nbsp;sculpt as well as make jewelry and leaves behind a plethora&nbsp;of&nbsp;impressionist art.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 9, 2022, at Ryan Mortuary, Salina. Burial will be in the Gypsum City Cemetery.

Brandon Dean Heape, 21, of Bennington passed away unexpectedly Friday November 25th, 2022. Brandon graced the world with his presence on February 13th, 2001. He was born to Kristina Hackett and Matthew Heape in Fairfield, California.&nbsp; 

The family moved to Beverly, KS in 2005 where Brandon spent the majority of his childhood causing chaos and havoc.

Brandon really looked up to and admired his father, Matt. They spent their days together ripping dirt bikes, fixing up cars, and target practicing at the bridge. Brandon’s mother unfortunately passed away last year but their bond was nothing short of extraordinary. Kristina would surprise Brandon and his boys with gifts that reminded her of them.

Brandon was blessed with two younger sisters, Amber Hackett and Allyson Anderson. He was fiercely protective of his siblings and was their rock throughout his young life. Brandon was adored to the fullest by his sisters. Amber and Ally knew if they had a problem of any kind, their big brother would handle it for them. 

Brandon was also survived in death by his loving grandmother, Patricia Hackett. Brandon’s grandmother cared for him all throughout his life.&nbsp; She was always there for him for whatever he needed, whenever he needed it.

Brandon is also survived by his devoted fiancé Kylie, their two adventurous children Jackson and Maddox, and their pitbull, Jane. &nbsp;Brandon stepped up as a father figure for these two little boys that he had no obligation to, which made their bond all that more special. Brandon and Kylie spent five wonderful years together.&nbsp; As you can imagine, the laughs and memories created were endless. Brandon had grown accustomed to the finer things in life. These things were typically funded by Kylie's checkbook, such as his beloved Jane.

Lil B was a friend to many and a stranger to none. Brandon had a close group of friends who would describe him as amazing, compassionate, persistent, genuine, stubborn, and spontaneous. Brandon had a way of forming unbreakable bonds with his friends children as well and they adored him. Brandon was naturally a great source of laughter with his bright personality and his cheesy smile. Brandon loved big and he loved hard. His friends knew how deep his love ran and that he would forever be there, no matter what.

Brandon continued to show this love even after his friends were gone. Brandon took the time to call his best friend Christopher’s mother daily.&nbsp; He continued Chris’s nightly routine “Goodnight, Momma. I love you” texts that Chris was no longer able to send to her. &nbsp;We know Brandon is wearing that infectious smile up there with his best friend Chris, doing burnouts and giving heaven some hell.

A memorial service for all of Brandon’s family and friends will be held on December 8th, 2022 at 1 p.m. &nbsp;The service will be held at Roselawn Memorial Chapel at 1920 E. Crawford St., Salina, KS.

Robert S. Griffin, 79, Minneapolis, died Monday, December 5, 2022, at the Salina Regional Health Center. Bob was born January 19, 1943, in Salina to Wilton Sylvester and Virginia (Mikesell) Griffin.

Bob was a graduate of Minneapolis High School, and he continued his education at Kansas State University where he received his bachelor’s degree. 

Bob and Jean Warren were married August 25, 1963, and had a son, Todd.&nbsp; 

After graduating, they returned home, and he created JB Quarter Horses and JB Western Supply.&nbsp; During this time, they actively traveled the surrounding states raising and showing horses in competitions.&nbsp;

After many years of competition traveling, he retired the business and created yet another, Griffin’s Antiques, which was located in Minneapolis, all the while working for his father at Griffin’s Contracting.&nbsp;

Bob was a Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 91 in Minneapolis for almost 20 years. During his leadership, the troop produced nine Eagle Scouts.&nbsp; Bob’s love of the outdoors allowed his scouts to experience countless canoe trips all over Kansas, Nebraska, and Canada.

Bob spent a lifetime in the construction world.&nbsp; He owned and operated Griffin’s Contracting for many years and created many projects in the Minneapolis and surrounding areas.&nbsp; He was a longtime member of the Community Bible Church in Minneapolis.

Jean preceded Bob in death on April 7, 1996, and on May 1, 1999, he and Barbara (Locke) Gilley were united in marriage. He and Barb loved traveling and gardening together.&nbsp;

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Jean; his stepdaughter Debra Boll; and step-granddaughter Angel Boll.

During his leadership, the troop produced nine Eagle Scouts.&nbsp; Bob’s love of the outdoors allowed his scouts to experience countless canoe trips all over Kansas, Nebraska, and Canada.Bob spent a lifetime in the construction world.&nbsp; He owned and operated Griffin’s Contracting for many years and created many projects in the Minneapolis and surrounding areas.&nbsp; He was a longtime member of the Community Bible Church in Minneapolis.Jean preceded Bob in death on April 7, 1996, and on May 1, 1999, he and Barbara (Locke) Gilley were united in marriage. Dorothy Goering, 85, of Moundridge, Kansas passed away Sunday, December 4, 2022 at Pine Village. 

Dorothy Ann (Ewert) Goering, 85, passed away suddenly on December 4, 2022 at Pine Village in Moundridge, KS. She was one of two daughters born to David Penner Ewert and Lydia Ann (Siemens). She was born Jan. 31, 1937 at Hillsboro, KS., and grew up on a farm northeast of Hillsboro where she early learned an appreciation of rural life and nature. In her childhood home, she was taught the value of following strong Christian principles-especially the importance of treating all persons with respect. She attended Warren School (one-room country school) for grades 1 to 5; Hillsboro Elementary School for grades 6 to 8; and graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1955. She attended Bethel College from 1955 to 1957.

She was baptized in 1953, becoming a member of Hillsboro First Mennonite Church. She later became a member of Eden Mennonite Church, Moundridge. She married Homer D. Goering Dec. 20, 1956, and the couple made their home on a farm near Moundridge, KS (in later years moving to Pine Village retirement center). They became parents of six sons born from 1957 to 1964. Their 65th wedding anniversary was celebrated in 2021. Life was meaningful shared with her loving husband, sons and daughters-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchild, each one whom she regarded as very special. Her vocational experience, besides that of farmer's wife and mother, consisted of 16 years as staff writer and photographer for The Ledger newspaper (formerly The Moundridge Journal). A particularly challenging volunteer activity was 13 seasons given as chair of publicity for the Kansas MCC Relief Sale. Also adding special meaning to the lives of the couple were the many hours spent singing and playing high-spirited card games with close friends Bob and Valeda Krehbiel. Her faith journey brought with it both joys and challenges-among them a long intense encounter with Parkinson's disease. She regarded all her experiences instrumental in accomplishing both testing and strengthening of her Christian faith, believing that God could be trusted to bring the best of His blessings to every situation. To God be the glory! Preceding Dorothy in death were parents and parents-in-law, sister Grace Brandt, and several brothers and sisters-in-law. Verna Dyck, 96, of Canton, Kansas, passed away Friday, December 2, 2022 at Hillsboro Hospital. She was born June 23, 1926 in rural Canton, the daughter of Frank E. and Leah (Koehn) Koehn.

She was united in marriage to Irvin H. Dyck on November 4, 1945 at Lone Tree Mennonite Church in Galva. He preceded her in death on December 7, 2002.

Verna was a homemaker. For more than 50 years, she worked alongside her husband in their watch shop in California. During this time, Verna spent many hours in the women’s ministry with Assembly of God Church in Merced, California. She was a member of the Spring Valley Mennonite Church in rural Canton, Kansas.

Her warm hospitality attracted many visitors to their home. Her love of sewing was demonstrated in the many quilts she tied with Piecemaker Quilt Group, while living in Oregon.

Verna is survived by her two sons, Melvin (Barbara Allan) Dyck of Milwaukie, OR, and Norman Dean Dyck of Canton; and sisters Viola D. Ratzloff of Canton, Rosalie A. Hiebert of Iroquois, SD, Sylvia J. (Warren) Eicher of Carson City, MI, and Lanita I. (Dennis) Unruh of Canton.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers Jim Koehn and Wilbert Koehn; and sister Darlene Unruh.

Ruth was born on November 2, 1957, in Muncie, Indiana. She was the second child of Dr. Dale and Lorraine Werling. Being a child of an ordained pastor, she did live in several states but has lived in Kansas the past 40 years.

She most recently was a Certified Medication Aide until her retirement. She was a Christian who loved her family and animals of all kinds.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and brother John.&nbsp; 

She leaves behind two sisters, Mary (Mark) Hassman and Martha Werling, as well as nieces Amanda (Matthew Biolsi) Hassman, Ashley Hassman, Sarah Winkler, Rachel (Kris) Davis, and Leah Werling.&nbsp;

Don Anthony Martin passed away December 5, 2022.&nbsp; He was born to Roy Martin, Sr. and Marguerite (Alexander) Martin on October 17,1936 on the farm east of Broughton Kansas.&nbsp; 

He attended Gatesville grade school and graduated from Clay Center High School in 1955.&nbsp; He was an outstanding athlete at Clay Center High School as a football All-American and All-State player his senior year.&nbsp; He was part of the state track &amp; field championship team in 1955 competing in the 880 relay and high hurdles.&nbsp; He was recruited to play college football at SMU and Oklahoma but committed to Kansas State University to stay closer to his parents.&nbsp; 

He played football at KSU for four years and earned three varsity letters.&nbsp; He passed on opportunities to play in the NFL to pursue his passion for farming.&nbsp; He graduated from Kansas State University with a bachelor’s degree in physical education.&nbsp; The competitive drive that made Don successful on the football field was also important in growing his new farming operation.&nbsp;

When he started in 1959, he farmed 160 acres of rented land.&nbsp; Today he and his son, Tim, farm over 6,000 acres.&nbsp; &nbsp;He was a pioneer in new technology to improve his farming operation.&nbsp; In 1967 his new automated cattle feeding system was featured in the Kansas Electric Famer magazine.&nbsp; He installed his first center pivot irrigation system in the 1970s.&nbsp; In the 1980s he started replacing flood irrigation with reversible center pivots, which reduced water usage and, more recently, installing underground drip irrigation.&nbsp; He purchased one of the first rotary combines in the late '70s and now uses equipment with GPS guidance.

He received the Kansas Young Farmers Beef Producer award in 1968 and the Star Young Farmer of Kansas Award in 1970.&nbsp; He and his wife Lois received the Kansas Master Farmers and Master Farm Homemakers award in 2015.

He was also a DeKalb seed dealer for many years.

Don was a lifelong member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Clay Center.&nbsp; He was involved in 4-H growing up and continued his support throughout his life.&nbsp; &nbsp;Don and Lois were named Friends of 4-H in 2019. He was inducted into the Clay Center Tigers Hall of Fame, and he was a member of the Elks and Kansas Young Farmers.

He met his wife Lois Jean (Wingate) when she was teaching at Clay Center High School.&nbsp; They were married on December 28, 1960, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church and were married for 60 years.

Don is survived by his children Francine Jo Martin of Topeka, Kansas; Roy Scott (Polly) of Aurora, Colorado; Angela Jean Martin of Manhattan, Kansas; Steven Bruce (Charity) Martin of Terrell, Texas; Melanie Marguerite Ramsey of Manhattan, Kansas; and Timothy Michael Pat (Roxie) of Clay Center, Kansas.&nbsp; He has eleven grandchildren:&nbsp; Andy (Tori), Emily, Tyler Martin; Matthew and Courtney Martin; Ryan and Cole Ramsey; Amanda (Jayde) Pfizenmaier, Luke, Sarabeth, and Kelly Martin.&nbsp; He has one great-granddaughter Madilyn JoAnne Pfizenmaier.&nbsp; Also, brothers Noel (Vicki) and Max (Kathy); sisters Jeanne (Larry) Gagnon and Joan (Jerry) Davis; sister-in-law Mary Ann Martin.

He was preceded in death by wife Lois, parents Roy, Sr. and Marguerite, brother Roy, Jr. and son-in-law David Ramsey.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 16, 2022, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church.

Visitation will be held from 4:30 – 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 15, 2022, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church with a vigil and rosary service at 7 p.m.

 </figure><a href="https://www.nsrfh.com/obituary/don-martin">Obituary | Don Martin | Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home (nsrfh.com)</a>Don Anthony Martin passed away December 5, 2022.&nbsp; He was born to Roy Martin, Sr. and Marguerite (Alexander) Martin on October 17,1936 on the farm east of Broughton Kansas.&nbsp; He attended Gatesville grade school and graduated from Clay Center High School in 1955.&nbsp; He was an outstanding athlete at Clay Center High School as a football All-American and All-State player his senior year.&nbsp; He was part of the state track &amp; field championship team in 1955 competing in the 880 relay and high hurdles.&nbsp; He was recruited to play college football at SMU and Oklahoma but committed to Kansas State University to stay closer to his parents.&nbsp; He played football at KSU for four years and earned three varsity letters.&nbsp; He passed on opportunities to play in the NFL to pursue his passion for farming.&nbsp; He graduated from Kansas State University with a bachelor’s degree in physical education.&nbsp; The competitive drive that made Don successful on the football field was also important in growing his new farming operation.&nbsp;When he started in 1959, he farmed 160 acres of rented land.&nbsp; Today he and his son, Tim, farm over 6,000 acres.&nbsp; &nbsp;He was a pioneer in new technology to improve his farming operation.&nbsp; In 1967 his new automated cattle feeding system was featured in the Kansas Electric Famer magazine.&nbsp; He installed his first center pivot irrigation system in the 1970s.&nbsp; In the 1980s he started replacing flood irrigation with reversible center pivots, which reduced water usage and, more recently, installing underground drip irrigation.&nbsp; He purchased one of the first rotary combines in the late '70s and now uses equipment with GPS guidance.He received the Kansas Young Farmers Beef Producer award in 1968 and the Star Young Farmer of Kansas Award in 1970.&nbsp; He and his wife Lois received the Kansas Master Farmers and Master Farm Homemakers award in 2015.He was also a DeKalb seed dealer for many years.Don was a lifelong member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Clay Center.&nbsp; He was involved in 4-H growing up and continued his support throughout his life.&nbsp; &nbsp;Don and Lois were named Friends of 4-H in 2019. He was inducted into the Clay Center Tigers Hall of Fame, and he was a member of the Elks and Kansas Young Farmers.He met his wife Lois Jean (Wingate) when she was teaching at Clay Center High School.&nbsp; They were married on December 28, 1960, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church and were married for 60 years.Don is survived by his children Francine Jo Martin of Topeka, Kansas; Roy Scott (Polly) of Aurora, Colorado; Angela Jean Martin of Manhattan, Kansas; Steven Bruce (Charity) Martin of Terrell, Texas; Melanie Marguerite Ramsey of Manhattan, Kansas; and Timothy Michael Pat (Roxie) of Clay Center, Kansas.&nbsp; He has eleven grandchildren:&nbsp; Andy (Tori), Emily, Tyler Martin; Matthew and Courtney Martin; Ryan and Cole Ramsey; Amanda (Jayde) Pfizenmaier, Luke, Sarabeth, and Kelly Martin.&nbsp; He has one great-granddaughter Madilyn JoAnne Pfizenmaier.&nbsp; Also, brothers Noel (Vicki) and Max (Kathy); sisters Jeanne (Larry) Gagnon and Joan (Jerry) Davis; sister-in-law Mary Ann Martin.He was preceded in death by wife Lois, parents Roy, Sr. and Marguerite, brother Roy, Jr. and son-in-law David Ramsey.A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 16, 2022, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church.Visitation will be held from 4:30 – 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 15, 2022, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church with a vigil and rosary service at 7 p.m.Memorial contributions may be made to the Don Martin Memorial Fund c/o the Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home.&nbsp; The memorial will be used for the handicapped restroom at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, staff appreciation at CCMC, and Clay County 4-H.

On Thursday December 1, 2022, Rita Jo Braden, age 65, won her fight with cancer and went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.&nbsp; She was born in Clay Center, Kansas on February 25, 1957 to Dale and Anna Mae (Avery) Newell. &nbsp;

She attended Wakefield Schools and graduated valedictorian in 1975.&nbsp; She then attended Manhattan Area Technical College and subsequently began working in the Animal Science Department at Kansas State University.&nbsp; 

After moving back to Wakefield, she was employed at the ASCS office in Clay Center.&nbsp; Rita Jo then worked for and eventually owned Living Stories Inc., shipping child evangelization materials worldwide. She later served as the Wakefield Public Library Director for nearly 20 years. As an avid reader this was a vocation she was well suited for and thoroughly enjoyed.&nbsp;

On September 24, 1977, Rita Jo was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart Ladd Braden.&nbsp; The arrival of Steven Dale completed their family in January 1984.&nbsp;

Rita Jo’s deep faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was the guiding influence in her life.&nbsp; She was a member of Milford Church, serving many years as a member of the board and as pianist. Over the last ten years, Rita Jo’s life was greatly blessed and she reaped rich spiritual growth, inspiration, and joy from fellowship with the members of her women’s Bible study group.

Rita Jo developed a growing passion for quilting in recent years. She greatly enjoyed creating and gifting her beautiful creations to family, friends, and even those she never met. Her quilts celebrated new lives and provided warmth and comfort to those in need.

Also central in Rita Jo and Ladd’s life, has been the nurturing and Godly upbringing of their son Steven Dale, who has been a source of great joy, inspiration, and entertainment to family, friends, and a wide circle of acquaintances.

Rita Jo was preceded in death by her parents.&nbsp; 

She is survived by her husband Ladd and son Steven Dale, brother Marc Newell of Wakefield, sister Shan (Marcia) and husband Denny Gfeller of rural Junction City, and sister Teresa K. Newell of Fargo, ND.&nbsp;&nbsp; She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Rita Jo’s life will be held on Friday, December 9, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at the Wakefield Methodist Church.

Visitation will also be held at the Wakefield Methodist Church from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 8, 2022.

In lieu of flowers, Rita Jo’s wishes were that memorials be made to The Wakefield Museum and Milford Church and may be sent c/o the Neill-Schwensen-Rook Funeral Home.

In the midst of Rita Jo’s battle, it became her heart’s desire to share her testimony and be a witness of the healing grace of God to those battling cancer and other afflictions. In honor and support of her wishes, the family would also like to develop a fund to provide the book “Healed of Cancer” by Dodie Osteen, which was a source of great comfort and encouragement to Rita Jo. Memorial funds may also be directed to support this mission.

She also enjoyed going to concerts, and listening to music. Bonnie is survived by her brothers Stanley and his wife Susan Downey of Newton, Walter “Jake” and his wife Jenny Downey of Rose Hill, her sister Carol and her husband Bill Rickenbrode of Cocoa, Florida, and several nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents. Mass of Christian Burial for Bonnie will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 9, 2022 at the St. Phillips Catholic Church in Hope with Father George Chalbhagam as celebrant. He was preceded in death by parents Daniel Lee and C. "Oneta" (Meyer) Grubbs, his son Phillip R. Grubbs, Jr., in 2019, sisters Ramona G. Goodwin, and Lillie Stock, and brother Gene Grubbs in 2020.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 59 years, Evelyn R. (May) Grubbs, brother Daniel Dean Grubbs and his wife; Karen, sister-in-law Edna Grubbs; and his in-laws Robert May of Ewing, MO., Wayne May and his wife Judy of Idaho, Joan Brackney of Chapman, Alice Disney and her husband Bob of Delphos, and Danny May and his wife Sandy of Chicago, IL., and an aunt Wilma Frontier of Junction City, and a step-grandson, Doug Tabler and many nieces and nephews.

Don Byron Hough passed away on November 22, 2022, at Salina Regional Hospital due to complications from COVID. He was 92 years old. Don was born June 11, 1930, in Saline County, KS to Robert and Allie Hough.

Don attended Kansas Wesleyan where he received a degree in business and played trombone in the band.

 He then attended Central Baptist Seminary in KC where he met his wife, Nedra Korab, who was a music major and was director of “Camp Fire Girls of America.” They were married on December 26, 1955. 

After graduation, Don became pastor of First Baptist Church of Gypsum. His basic rule was “to know people, you have to call on them.” Every evening they would visit with families in the congregation. After the death of his young daughter from cancer, Don felt it was time for a change. The family moved back to Salina and Don began working with his father at Hough Piano and Organ Company. This became one of his greatest joys, bringing music to people’s homes. He visited churches and state fairs. He organized piano recitals. The business had been open for 75 years until his retirement. 

Don was very active in the First Baptist Church in Salina. He was also a member of the Kiwanis Club and Moose Lodge. When not working, Don loved to spend weekends at Milford Lake, camping and boating.

Later in life, Don moved to McCall Manor, now Reflections Retirement Resort after a below knee amputation. With the help of Steve Peeples of Peeples Orthotics in Wichita, and the many “angels” who helped with his recovery, Don learned to walk with his prosthetic and even danced again. Don lived independently and had many friends. He played the organ a couple of Fridays a month. He enjoyed group activities, (except BINGO). He loved trips to Kansas Wesleyan to hear the symphony. Friends and family laughed at his jokes; Don loved making people feel welcome and cared for. 

He found a loving companion in Consuelo Diaz until her passing and more recently, Wynona Lawson. &nbsp;Visits from his children and grandchildren brought him great joy as well as attending their many celebrations.

Don is preceded in death by his parents Byron and Allie Hough, his wife Nedra Hough, daughter Lisa Hough, and son Loren Hough. 

He is survived by his children Allene Eland, Lenexa, KS; Darald Hough, Scottsdale, AZ; Laina Cossel, El Paso, TX and ten grandchildren: Korab Eland, Cherys Austin, Noah Eland, Noelle Eland, Garrett Dyck, Rachel Walker, Becca Hough, Luke Cossel, Mark Cossel, and Ruth Cossel.

He was 92 years old. Don was born June 11, 1930, in Saline County, KS to Robert and Allie Hough.Don attended Kansas Wesleyan where he received a degree in business and played trombone in the band. He then attended Central Baptist Seminary in KC where he met his wife, Nedra Korab, who was a music major and was director of “Camp Fire Girls of America.” They were married on December 26, 1955. After graduation, Don became pastor of First Baptist Church of Gypsum. His basic rule was “to know people, you have to call on them.” Every evening they would visit with families in the congregation. After the death of his young daughter from cancer, Don felt it was time for a change. The family moved back to Salina and Don began working with his father at Hough Piano and Organ Company. This became one of his greatest joys, bringing music to people’s homes. He visited churches and state fairs. He organized piano recitals. The business had been open for 75 years until his retirement. Don was very active in the First Baptist Church in Salina. He was also a member of the Kiwanis Club and Moose Lodge. When not working, Don loved to spend weekends at Milford Lake, camping and boating.Later in life, Don moved to McCall Manor, now Reflections Retirement Resort after a below knee amputation. With the help of Steve Peeples of Peeples Orthotics in Wichita, and the many “angels” who helped with his recovery, Don learned to walk with his prosthetic and even danced again. Don lived independently and had many friends. He played the organ a couple of Fridays a month. He enjoyed group activities, (except BINGO). He loved trips to Kansas Wesleyan to hear the symphony. Friends and family laughed at his jokes; Don loved making people feel welcome and cared for. He found a loving companion in Consuelo Diaz until her passing and more recently, Wynona Lawson. &nbsp;Visits from his children and grandchildren brought him great joy as well as attending their many celebrations.Don is preceded in death by his parents Byron and Allie Hough, his wife Nedra Hough, daughter Lisa Hough, and son Loren Hough. Karen D. McCall was born November 12, 1941, to Darrel and Lorena (Lindamood) Van Tine in Topeka, Kansas. She passed away Thursday, December 1, 2022, at Community North Hospital, Indianapolis, IN.

Karen married Merrill McCall on June 12, 1960. They enjoyed 60 years of marriage. 

Karen was a wonderful homemaker and stay-at-home mother in Bloomington/Normal Illinois until she embarked on a career with the federal government as a caseworker for Congressman Edward Madigan and Congressman Tom Ewing. 

Karen retired with Merrill, and they built their retirement home at the Lake of the Ozarks where they resided for 22 years. 

Merrill preceded Karen in death on August 17, 2020. They enjoyed sharing their lake home with friends and family. They were members of the Elks Lodge in Laurie, Missouri where Karen truly loved to play bridge with many special friends.

Karen is survived by her son Mark (Sharon) McCall, daughter Marcia (Bob) Myers, grandsons Zane DeLorme and Kyle Mark Myers.

She was an amazing wife, mother, Nana and friend.

Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 8 at Wilson Family Funeral Home, 405 Argyle Ave., Minneapolis, KS 67467 with graveside services following at Highland Cemetery at noon.
